How Automation Enhances Safety in Maritime Operations?
In the ever-evolving landscape of maritime operations, the integration of advanced ship automation products is playing a pivotal role in enhancing safety standards. The incorporation of cutting-edge technologies into vessel systems is transforming the maritime industry, mitigating risks, and ensuring a safer environment for both crew and cargo.
Ship automation products, encompassing a wide array of components such as sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and communication systems, contribute significantly to the overall safety of maritime operations.
1. Collision Avoidance Systems: One of the key safety features facilitated by ship automation products is the implementation of sophisticated collision avoidance systems. These systems utilize a network of sensors, including radar and sonar, to constantly monitor the surrounding environment. In the event of an impending collision or close proximity to obstacles, these ship automation products trigger real-time alerts and, in some cases, can even initiate evasive maneuvers. This not only protects the vessel from potential accidents but also enhances overall maritime safety.
2. Automated Navigation: Ship automation products like advanced GPS systems and automated navigation software play a crucial role in ensuring precise and secure navigation. These technologies reduce human error, provide accurate real-time positioning, and enable vessels to follow pre-determined routes with enhanced accuracy. Automated navigation contributes to safer journeys by minimizing the risk of straying off course, especially in challenging weather conditions or congested maritime routes.
3. Emergency Response Systems: Ship automation products also include integrated emergency response systems that can swiftly detect and respond to critical situations. Whether it's a fire detection system, leak sensors, or automated firefighting equipment, these products enhance the vessel's capability to address emergencies promptly. Rapid response, facilitated by ship automation, is paramount in preventing incidents from escalating and ensuring the safety of the crew and cargo.
4. Remote Monitoring and Control: The capability of remotely monitoring and controlling ship systems is another safety-enhancing aspect of automation products. Ship owners and operators can access real-time data on vessel performance, engine status, and environmental conditions from anywhere in the world. This remote connectivity allows for immediate response to emerging issues, enabling proactive measures to be taken before they develop into critical safety concerns.
In conclusion, ship automation products are instrumental in elevating safety standards in maritime operations. The integration of collision avoidance systems, automated navigation, emergency response mechanisms, and remote monitoring collectively contribute to a safer and more secure maritime environment. As technology continues to advance, the role of ship automation products in enhancing safety will only become more prominent, ensuring the continued evolution of a secure and efficient maritime industry.

LIST: iOS SHORTCUTS
• Spotify to MP3 | "Download Spotify tracks to MP3." • All Media Downloader | "This shortcut helps you download content from social media apps." • Web Services | "Customise the internet for you." • Better GIF Maker | "Convert videos and live photos to GIFs at highest quality using ffmpeg" • Water Eject | "Powerful water ejection system." • Paywall and Cookie Bypass | "Bypass website paywalls and cookies." • iUtilities | "The only shortcut you’ll need" • Reverse Image Search | "Search by image instead of keywords" • Google Translate | "Quickly translate using the Google Translate API" • iTweak Final Version | "A Jailbreak Alternative With Multiple Features!"
...WHAT ARE SHORTCUTS?
for those unaware: the pre-installed Shortcuts app on iOS/macOS/iPadOS can potentially be a life-changing application in regards to digital productivity.
it's utilized as a hub for your collection of shortcuts and automations. shortcuts allow for just a single click—which many times is conveniently incorporated onto your "share" sheet option panel—to execute one or multiple actions; automations are chosen commands that run at specific/relative times of day without prompt.
people tend to overlook the Shortcuts app due to its available "gallery" of shortcuts being rather limited... with the only other option provided being to build these desired actions yourself, which requires the skill of digital coding. however! that's where RoutineHub comes in: it's a website allowing users to share their own complex shortcuts, free of charge, and has a large selection to choose from.

lrb im so angry right now. i think the prevalence of AI Art goes hand in hand with something im also pissed about- the death of the attention span
everything is just made to be so . fucking fast. people dont wait for things anymore- myself included! one of my resolutions for this year was to reclaim my attention span because ive lost so many hours to a time vampire algorithm or my own impatience. i feel like i cant sit down to do things anymore. its maddening.
and this doesnt just relate to the CREATION of AI art- obviously, obviously someone who is impatient and wants things NOW isn't going to spend the time waiting for a quality product. not when they could have something "sufficient" right now. they'll just generate it. but i think the worst part is when viewers of that AI art will look at it and see nothing wrong- all because they didn't LOOK at it.
if you aren't really observing, not really drinking in what you're looking at, just letting it slide over your eyes, then you're not going to notice all the fucked up blurry patches, or the way the dimensions are all off, when parts blend and there are random color splotches grafted onto it with no meaning. no one cares to look closely enough to see whats wrong. if it looks okay at a glance, why bother refining it? A glance is all people are ever going to give.

As a global mode of production based on class domination, capitalism depends on the extraction of surplus value from a subordinated class, the world working class, which is the pool from which profits, interest, rent, dividends, and other forms of this surplus are taken. As one of its most basic features, corporations in different countries mechanize their operations to raise their profit rate by increasing labor productivity. As these techniques become generalized, the relative advantage for their early adopters dries up, and a new productivity norm becomes the rate at which businesses must produce to remain competitive. The drive for a new breakthrough in productivity begins. Enormous amounts of profit are produced and realized during this process while deleting workers from it—that is, by getting rid of the real source of profit, labor power. As a result, even as individual corporations rake in more money through investing in machinery, the average rate of profit for all producers declines. The longer this goes on, the lower profitability becomes, reducing the level of investment and further intensifying the pressures of competition.

Thinking a lot about the 1830s and 1840s, recurring subjects on this blog that I approach almost exclusively through fashion/material culture and popular entertainment. Because I'd rather write about Fancy Gentlemen's Clothes and novels than the grim reality of those decades for most people who lived in them—starkly reinforced as I was working on school things last night, all about the mid-19th century United States.
The professor shared an article about the Panic of 1837, a financial crisis in the United States (that Captain Marryat also described in his Diary in America). American children born in the 1840s were 5 centimetres shorter than children born 10-15 years earlier, blamed on the nutritional hardship of the bad times (the "hungry forties" in Great Britain). It was astonishing to me for two reasons: that the physical impact was so great, and that there was enough biometric data collected to make that discovery.
"For complex reasons" the sale of Opium to China (pre-First Opium War) is implicated in the Panic of '37, there's a lot about enslaved labour and the products of enslaved labour in the USA; also rich people making bad decisions with imaginary money causing general misery and crushing labour movements of the 1830s because Oh No The Economy no time to care about human rights!!
Maybe there are some different words, but I know the tune of this song.

The industrialization of art
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the cavernous depths of the digital age, a sinister specter looms over the once hallowed halls of artistic expression. Welcome to the era of industrialized art, where the delicate tapestry of human creativity is torn asunder by the cold, calculating hands of technology.
Imagine a world where every stroke of the brush, every word penned, every note sung, is not the product of passion, soul, and humanity, but merely the output of an algorithmic assembly line. Canvases are churned out by the thousands, their vibrant colors muted by the soulless efficiency of mass production. Novels are generated at the speed of light, their plots recycled ad infinitum in an endless loop of digital replication.
In this dystopian-like landscape, where art itself is mass produced like boxes and machinery, the very essence of art itself is commodified, stripped of its intrinsic value and reduced to mere digits on a screen. Paintings, poems, symphonies, and soul touching stories of humanity all are rendered indistinguishable from one another, their uniqueness drowned out by the deafening roar of automation.
But let us not forget the human cost of this relentless march towards instant progress. Just as the artisans and craftsmen in history were swept aside by the tidal wave of industrialization, where products produced by their careful hands took too long to come into existence compared to the machines. So too are the poets and painters of today faced with obsolescence in the face of artificial intelligence. Those who once poured their hearts and souls into their craft find themselves outpaced and outgunned by machines that know no fatigue, no emotion, no empathy, and so the rise of capitalism.  Consider the poets who once spun verse from the fabric of their dreams, now relegated to the dustbin of history by lines of code. Reflect on the painters whose brushstrokes once captured the essence of the human spirit, now lost in the cacophony of digital noise. It is also perhaps the capitalization of art.
For in the end, the true tragedy of industrialized art lies not in the loss of creativity, but in the loss of humanity itself. And as we stand on the precipice of this brave new world, remember that the soul of art will always lie in the hands of those who dare to defy the machines, and keep the flame of creativity burning bright in the darkness.
But perhaps, if we stop and think, the most chilling of all is the realization that even this very piece of writing, these words you are reading right now, may have been born not from the depths of a human mind, but from the cold, unfeeling algorithms of an artificial intelligence. Yes, dear reader, even as you ponder the implications of industrialized art, you may unwittingly find yourself in the thrall of the very phenomenon you seek to understand.
For in the end, does it truly matter whether these words were crafted by man or machine? Does it matter whether they sprang forth from the mind of a human soul or were merely pieced together by lines of code? The answer, dear reader, lies not in the origin of these words, but in the impact they have on your consciousness. And in that regard, perhaps the true artistry lies not in the creation of the work itself, but in the mystery of its creation~ a mystery that may forever remain hidden

ai could be such an amazing tool for so many different things but instead they're like "lets replace art forms and put people out of jobs :)" which is bullshit
im an artist (like actual paid professional artist. this shit is my life) and nothing is more annoying and infuriating to me than people that are selling ai art.
there is so much potential to use ai for art but it isnt art. it can't actually replace things that are created by people to invoke emotion or tell a story. you cannot actually be as amazed or impressed by ai art as actual human-made pieces. it's not the same!!! it doesn't mean anything, its just some prompts that spit out something that can kind of look like art. actual art forms are people pouring their heart and soul into something.
It's all forms of storytelling, which is something consistent in literally every human culture ever. don't support ai books, scripts, shows, illustrations, music. don't support things that are taking away actual human expression. use it for taxes or something, i dont care.
