Okay so sorting characters into Hogwarts houses is obviously out of fashion but can we assign them a Camp Half-blood cabin, like:

Luz could be Apollo (cause she's bi, cause she's a ray of sunshine, cause she loves art and music and is creative and also her mom's a vet so she's a kind of healer)

Amity can be either Athena (cause she a smort gurl who loves to learn and read and be clever) or Hephaestus (cause she grows up to be like an inventor/engineer/mechanic thing and Alador has kinda Hephaestus vibes) or it would even be cool if she was a Hecate kid (you know because she parallels Hecate from the Azura book series)

Willow is obviously Demeter, I don't need to explain that one.

Gus is more difficult. But I think he would either also be an Athena kid (Gus and Amity in the same cabin what a concept huh) or Dionysus (cause he can torture people with illusions and Dionysus could do that too)

Eda and Lilith can both be in the Hecate cabin (it's the vibes mostly, Eda more than Lilith tho, Eda would totally go into the Witchcraft cabin (yes I know they're *all* witches but Eda's vibes are different)) or the Eris cabin (you know, Eris the goddess of Chaos? That's totally Eda)

Raine is also in the Apollo cabin (art, music and poetry like Luz. Also bitch is a hopeless romantic with a trainwreck love life, that's as Apollo as anything)

Hunter is more difficult I think. Hades maybe? Cause he came back from the dead and he's got all that trauma wet cat eyebag sadness just like Nico?

Vee.... Aphrodite? Because Aphrodite can change her face depending on who looks at her?

King... Zeus? Like, King of Demons, King of the Gods?

Their most common one is Regdora which - kinda boring? Like it’s not bad, but when we have names like STARCHASER or NOBLEFLOWER or FLOWERPOT for other ships that just won’t do. Therefore my suggestion:

Stargazer

Because Star - Regulus (no explanation needed) and like gazer as kind of a synonym for seer?? Alternatively I have Starseer or Waterbox (Water for Reggie like in Moonwater + Pandoras Box yk), but Stargazer just sounds so Stargazer.

2. I OBVIOUSLY love them as an „Arranged Marriage I don’t want AT ALL (why are there butterflies in my stomache??) trope“, BUT also as the „we are queer best friends and jealous of each others partners, but idk why” trope!!

Also how many AMAZING Dynamics they have??

They would start to panic if they don’t see each other for more than a DAY. Also their dates would be sooo cute!! No matter whether it would be the cozy queer cafe around the corner or the flashy pureblood dance balls. They would have such a comfy aura and nobody would mind their pda cause they would be so comfortable with each other.

Sometimes they would just spend a day in absolute silence but a COZY COMFY DOMESTIC ONE yk???

Also the “I hate physical touch except for when it’s you” trope!!

5. Just then going to a pride parade together with matching outfits in like their 30s, already married and a bi flag on Reggie’s cheeks and a Pan one on Dora’s and they would be so PROUD.

Or just the courting process in the arranged marriage trope PEAK!!

6. They are love. They are soulmates. They are Stargazer (or Waterbox still unsure bout that one)

2. yesssssssss!!! istg they have the best troupes (next to bartylily). them as arranged marriage partners sounds so fun. imagine they're just kids when they first meet, and they're told they're supposed to get married when they grow up to combine the rosiers/lestranges

at first, they don't mind (they're tiny and have no idea what being married even means). they start hogwarts, and both realise that they're into their same gender people (once again, i bring up my mtf dora + ftm reg). so both spend a lot of time just convinced they aren't into each other. reg is a lesbian after all, and pandora is gay... then they come out as trans and both are like: oh-

3. grumpy x sunshine is so them omfg

them bith as seers???? Christ. them being so fucking blind is just so fitting. they never even consider that they might like each other

them as oblivious little fuckers so true. they are in deep denial fr. regulus is foaming out the mouth at how pandora is, but it's completely platonic

All they need is each other. they're always together, getting one of them alone is impossible. you can try, and you will fail

A Heroes of Olympus… Rant? Idk

So, I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump so I decided to reread my Riordan books to get me out of it and I’ve been thinking a lot about the Heroes of Olympus series specifically because… as much as I love that series looking back on it… there was just so much potential not just with the story but with the characters so… I’ve decided to make a small list of shit I would change just cause I feel like it.

So, first off, I don’t think I’d change much about The Lost Hero and Son of Neptune other than 3 tiny things.

1st, in The Lost Hero, Jason doesn’t fully remember Reyna like Percy does Annabeth, but he knows that there’s someone waiting for him. Also, Piper and Jason have an actual conversation in which they’re both like ‘Look, neither of us asked for this and I’m really sorry but we shouldn’t be together when our relationship never really existed.’

2nd, about Piper… SHE SHOULDN’T BE AN ‘I’M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS’ GIRL BECAUSE GIRLY GIRLS CAN BE JUST AS BADASS AND HAVE STORIES JUST AS GOOD AS TOMBOY AND NERDY GIRLS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK- Sorry I am just so sick and tired of fantasy books specifically treating girly girls with little to no respect. Like… come on man.

For Piper she’d either be a girly girl from the start or she’d embrace her girly side while hanging out with the Aphrodite cabin (who deserve so much justice, I might actually do a one-shot about the Aphrodite cabin just cause I had an idea of Percy on his first week getting his nails done by Silena cause he always wanted to but couldn’t cause of Gabe/bullies idk) but yeah, Piper could go on a small journey of learning to embrace her girly side and also discovering she’s lesbian/bi, to which Drew reminds her that Aphrodite is the goddess of all kinds of love.

Son of Neptune I would only change Frank, he wouldn’t get his weird glow up, let him stay chubby and awkward!!!

Now… this is when we really deviate.

Cause… I would actually have Reyna and Nico be part of the 7 while Percy and Annabeth stay behind in New Rome (Percy stays in New Rome as Praetor and Annabeth returns to Camp Half-Blood to lead or they both stay in New Rome and Annabeth gets the idea to build something like that in Camp Half-Blood you know… BUILD SOMETHING PERMANENT).

Maybe Reyna or Nico get a vision that lets them know that they are the ones supposed to go with the 7 instead of Annabeth and Percy. (Maybe instead of Nico it’s Thalia who’s in the Jar idk) and so Reyna and Nico go with the 7 (Reyna and Jason have an emotional reunion as they should’ve but they still don’t talk about their feelings cause they’re Romans and duty comes first)

And… hear me out! 1) Piper, Hazel and Reyna would make such a powerful trio just… women! 2) Nico would have a tough time bonding with the boys (he has a strong bond with Hazel and I feel like Nico would be surprised to bond with Reyna quickly, but eventually he and Jason would become low-key besties and his banter with Leo would be very fun.) 3) ACTUAL SCENES OF THE 7 BONDING.

So Reyna would get Annabeth’s quest maybe with another villain? Point is, at the end of Mark of Athena, Reyna is the one that’s getting dragged to Tartarus, Jason tries to catch her, they’re hanging off the ledge, Jason can’t fly because the pit is trying to suck them in or smth. Reyna tells him to let her go, it’s his duty to lead the group yadda yadda yadda. Jason refuses to, tells Nico (or Thalia if she’s the one they rescue who knows?) to meet them on the other side of the Gates and we get a Jeyna Tartarus fall.

House of Hades. After years of not knowing how to approach the subject because of awkwardness/fear of abandonment/trust issues/too many praetor duties, etc… the fact that Jason was willing to fall into Tartarus with her, and the very real possibility of dying, makes Reyna and Jason finally talk about their feelings and get together and they survive Tartarus together.

In the meanwhile shit is going down in New Rome cause of stupid Octavian. Percy and Annabeth have to leave. On the Argo II everyone is having a mental breakdown so Nico or maybe Piper step up to try and lead (I would actually love it to be Piper cause she had potential as a leader so yeah).

Then another big change, Ogygia. Leo does land up on Ogygia, he does meet Calypso BUT- they don’t fall in love, however, they do grow to love each other which is what allows Leo to leave.

I don’t know exactly how it would work but I would love for platonic love to be the thing that finally saves Calypso and gets her off Ogygia. This would also play into an arc I’d give Leo all about 1) learning that he doesn’t have to be in love to be complete and growing and being okay with being alone as long as he’s not lonely and learning that platonic love can be just as strong as romantic love or 2) Leo realizing that he’s aromantic and asexual and it’s just heteronormative thinking that makes him believe he isn’t complete without a romantic partner and finally accepting himself as he is. And again, learning that platonic love can be just as strong as romantic love.

Also, more angst to Hazel’s Hecate-like powers, maybe for a moment she thinks she’s dead again or smth like that idk.

Finally, Blood of Olympus.

First off. The Athena Parthenos. That quest would go to Percy, Annabeth… AND GROVER. FUCK YEAH BITCHES. That way, we get our original trio back with an important quest and we get to see them again.

Real Jeyna Tartarus PTSD, just, angst galore.

A longer final battle with each of the 7 having a critical role in the final battle. Nico and Hazel fighting side by side, Frank and Leo, Reyna and Piper, Jason striking lightning from above. Percy doing his thing with Annabeth leading the Greek side.

And finally… I’d honestly have an actual death. One of the 7 would die, no resurrection, no nothing.

I think it’d either be Frank or Piper.

Frank because of the set up with the stick and the underrated boy finally coming into his own and sacrificing his life for the greater good.

But the better option (to me at least in my version of the story) would be Piper. We see her grow so much through the story. First coming into her own and embracing her girly side, then being forced to step up and lead when Jason and Reyna are in Tartarus and just overall becoming a hero in her own right. (Also I feel like Piper would just have a strong bond with every single one of the 7, she’s Leo’s person, low-key besties with Reyna, she’s one of Jason’s closest friends she inspires and is always there for Hazel and Frank, etc. so it’d be all the more painful, she and Nico bond over not being straight).

Also also, it would almost close the circle of the Aphrodite hero. Silena was the first hero of Aphrodite cabin, but some people still doubt her, Piper is the second hero of Aphrodite cabin that no one will ever doubt or try to discredit. They burn a pink shroud and her siblings and every single one of the seven, along with Percy and Annabeth mourn her. And all of Camp Half-Blood silently agrees to never underestimate or take the Aphrodite kids for granted again.

The series ends with Leo keeping his promise to Calypso to go back for her with help from Frank and Hazel, Annabeth asking Reyna for help to build a New Rome in Camp Half-Blood and Jason, Nico and Percy maybe confronting the gods or smth like that.

So yeah uh… those are the things I’d change that no one asked for… yay… I stayed up until like 2 am just thinking about this don’t ask me why ajajjajajaa hope you enjoyed my ramblings!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mergwenthur beginnings from Merlin‘s pov bc he has the potential to make all of this SO angsty mmm

Like think abt Merlin feeling like he imposed on Arthur & Gwen's relationship simply bc he thinks the 2 are perfect (Merlin is obv so gone for them) & therefore perfect for each other but without him mixed into it bc ��he doesn’t have a place there in their relationship“

Or him already feeling insecure abt a potential position in a 3-way-relationship bc of the whole thing with Lancelot’s shade & probably thinks Arthur would therefore react badly or hurt

Or maybe throw in a magic reveal where Guinevere & Arthur are both shocked at first ofc & Gwen gets over that & is all reasonable/starting to understand & Arthur is still blown away/angry & just can’t understand so maybe Merlin sees their different opinions on the magic matter & thinks he’s or at least will soon be tearing a rift between Arwen through that

Or maybe him not feeling good enough for them since not only is Arthur the king but Gwen as his queen has ALSO risen in rank & is now „above“ him as well (tho I think this is a bit ooc for Merlin)

Or to try & keep Arthur away from him/not tempt himself (bc Merlin still has to hide his magic& therefore cannot get too close to anyone) Merlin pushes Gwen & Arthur together with effort & he thinks he’s left alone & that both of them will/can never know how much he loves them or know who he really is. Then Arwen ask why he wants them to be together SO BAD since the 2 don’t really ever want to spent time together without Merlin (bc they’re all in love your honor) & Merlin just explodes with a whole speech like because if you two don’t end up together all of the pain & the suffering I have gone through while having to watch from far away was worth for nothing & then Gwen thinks Merls were in love only with Arthur & Arthur thinks Merlin were only in love with Gwen & then they are all being stupid & sad abt that whole love triangle till it comes out that Merlin loves them BOTH at the end

Or ofc the Lancelot-Gwen-Arthur fiasco, but where Merlin & Gwen get enchanted by Morgana instead & they’re all super angsty abt this (there’s the fic, it’s great: https://archiveofourown.org/works/46578598 by @burglarhobbit)

While reading this fic the idea came to me that maybe Merlin takes the blame for Morgana’s love spell volunteeringly so that Arthur doesn’t get hurt by thinking Gwen cheated of her own free will & takes her back, but Gwen (the goddess that she is) straight up tells Arthur no, Merlin wouldn’t ever do that, it must’ve somehow been Morgana & they ask Merlin why he lied & his answer is I just wanted you two to be happy but then followed with I guess that I’m just selfish for wanting you two to love me as well, that would have been to good to be true anyways

Or Arthur seeing Gwen & Merlin hug like they used to do all the time in the show bc they’re best friends & always help each other through their hard stuff, so cue Arthur having his big bi panic & while still being a bit traumatised by the whole Lancelot’s shade-fiasco, he mistakes his romantic feelings for them as jealousy/insecurity/fear of Gwen leaving him for Merlin & saying smth like „you wouldn’t take her from me would you?“ to Merlin (maybe even just as a dumb joke without all those negative feelings) & Merlin being all surprised no ofc i wouldn’t do that, not to you Arthur, to neither of you, you mean too much to me to do that & being scared that he somehow crossed a line while talking to Gwen or smth to warrant this kind of question from Arthur

Or Merlin thinking: You already have to take care of Arthurs destiny (protecting him, be loyal to him, make him see magic is good without outing himself as a sorcerer etc.) you can’t also take his heart/feelings aswell. You can’t do that to Gwen.Arthur is already forced to spend forever with Merls due to destiny, let him choose Gwen on his own free will, so that means Merlin thinking his connection to Arthur is less important that Gwen’s connection to Arthur bc of destiny

Or Gwen & Arthur together trying to court him & invite him into their throuple so they kiss him on separate occasions without the other one present & Merlin is just alone walking with Gwen through the halls of Camelot & reeling with why did she just kiss me isn’t she in love with Arthur?? & Arthur then also kissing him or giving him gifts & he’s starting to catch on/hope that they might return his feelings but then he overhears Gwen telling Arthur that he (Arthur) is her everything (bc Arthur is emotionally constipated & needs reassurance & affection like he deserves), so Merls tries to gaslight himself à la oh those kisses where just friendly, friends kiss each other sometimes don’t they??? Gwen probably just missed me that 1 time/wanted to reassure me of something & Arthur was probably still high of of a particularly good fight during training OR he thinks maybe they were just playing a joke on him OR he assumes he’s just their mistress/playtoy now & therefore are his connections to them second to their marriage connection OR even angstier, he thinks they’re both cheating on each other with him & don’t know abt it & he fears they have problems in their relationship & is plagued by guilt bc he doesn’t know how to tell them that they’re kind of cheating with the same person (lol) & anytime he looks at them he asks himself how do I tell you that your wife is cheating on you with me, but I’m actually in love with the BOTH of you? Arthur surely won’t believe that for a second, he’ll just be rly angry

OR the 3 of them already being an item but like still in the beginnings & then the magic reveal happens & Arthur is just like you didn’t enchant us to fall in love with you right? (don’t worry, Arthur isn’t that bigoted, he’s just surprised that he feels so much love for not 1 BUT 2 whole wonderful ppl & starts to doubt bc he’s constipated like that) & Merlin says no, I wouldn’t do that, I don’t even know how to do a spell like that, but then comes the rocky acceptance-of-Merlin’s-magic-phase where everything including their budding relationship gets difficult & Merlin is doubting with thoughts like they don’t seem very in love with me anymore so maybe I DID put a love spell on them without knowing? Maybe I wanted them to love me so much so that my magic/I just enchanted them subconsciously??? Maybe all we had, all that THEY felt for me was a lie & I have been using them for my own personal gain?? And he’s just beating himself up over that in a puddle of guilt & heartbreak

here are my thoughts on all BG3 companions up through the end of Act 1 and very beginning of Act 2:

Astarion: light of my life, I am actually spoiled for probably 95% of his story, he is such a disgusting and rancid poor little meow meow and I want to see him grievously mutilated and tortured and then gently put back together again (repeat). As a faggy bi man he is the best #representation I have seen yet from mainstream media lmao. If i speak too much about him this whole post will be about him, sorry. Guro noncon yandere kink fanfic material out the wazoo, tho (Also of course I have many many thoughts on his character's narrative around trauma and healing or the lack thereof, but, too many words)

Shadowheart: I LOOOOVE HER I love her. I kind of wish they'd kept her as initially hostile and cruel as in EA after viewing video of it, but I also enjoy how she seems low-key and almost normal, though an asshole, and then BAM suddenly she's waxing poetic about committing terrifying emotional and physical torture in the name of her beloved mommy goddess. She is such an asshole and I feel like she gets soft on the PC weirdly fast, but I also do enjoy how playing Dark Urge informs the relationship dynamic as her backstory and personality unfolds, how the fact she becomes Best Friends with them despite the whole blackout-frenzied-murder and urges to eat corpses plays into her own issues and desire for understanding and connection (the memory loss and disconnect from her previous life and sense of self, the god devotion, wanting to make herself an even worse person in the name of her god, how completely committed she is in the art of torture and causing suffering, how she's simultaneously disgusted by and intrigued by Dark Urge's whole murder cannibalism urges.) Anyway yes she's great, I love her turmoil about not living up to her potential as a Shar-loving religious zealot and expert torturer.

Wyll: Wylllllllllll I feel like he was done so dirty by the writers between Early Release and Release. They should have continued to let him be an asshole warring with living up to heroic ideals, who just made a deal with a demon out of desperation for respect and appreciation. But he's fun in release too, just too low-key for me? With Dark Urge it's interesting because he is truly the most morally Good-Aligned party-member, probably, and I think about how he must grapple his morals with aiding and growing close to a murderous gore-loving freak. He's constantly having to compromise his own deeply-held ideals in the name of getting the tadpole out of his head, and I wonder about that constantly. At the same time, he's so focused on doing good and the cause of justice but is REALLY REALLY DOWN FOR GOBLIN MASS-MURDER... Like OK Wyll!! They kept that from Early Access at least lmao. His relationship with Mizora and the angst and regret he feels at signing a contract with her, for making this one major ill-thought decision while in a high-stress "do or die" situation, gets me, the way he's like, so resigned to it... How he's so resigned to being transformed into the very thing he'd dedicated his life to culling existence of (demons.) (The constant metaphors to being a pampered pet on a leash get to me.) Though you know, it still gets me he's lamenting how ugly he looks with horns, claws and fangs, in the middle of a party full of Tiefling who just faced a lot of life-threatening discrimination for looking like demons... lmao... especially when he's venting these things to a Tiefling Durge lmao... oh wyll...... Anyway I think he's sweet, and I have even more thoughts on him and Astarion being foils who need to fuck. I want to learn more about his daddy issues so I can give him a proper daddy kink. Wow, how is this the longest part of this post.

OK THIS GOT TOO LONG AND ITS ONLY THREE CHARACTERS!!!! I am going to an indie comics and arts festival today, I will come back to do the rest of the characters later.

5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?

In stages, slowly, over time!

I started writing Heralds of Rhimn when I was about fourteen-fifteenish, and the thing about a story you start at fifteen is that it's probably going to change a lot as you change. It's pretty wild to remember this now, but originally;

There were five main characters, all the same age.

No gods, oddly enough.

Crislie's weapon was a sword, not an ax, because she was The Mainest Character and everybody knows that's who you give the sword to in tropey YA stories.

Navaeli was a boy. (And half-dragon!)

Meparik was Crislie's love interest, not Navaeli! That's probably the weirdest thing that was going on with these early drafts.

So, Crislie started off with two base identity traits; girl (pugnacious) and boyliker (romantic).

Over time, I adapted the story and shifted things around. The extra main characters got ported over to Toybox (Saph & Vio!), Meparik aged down, Crislie & Vae aged up and subsequently paired up.

By that point, I'd wised up to the fact that i was a girlliker and that girlliking was Fine Actually. So I began to think to myself . . . was if . . . Navaeli was girl . . . and what if . . . girl kissed other girl still? And that's how Navaeli became metatextually (and textually, but that doesn't get talked about until later in the series) trans! And also how Crislie became bi.

As I started to write their relationship, I realized that they were both approaching their attraction differently. Navaeli was quietly thirsty under the surface. Meanwhile, Crislie . . . didn't have that? At first I thought I was writing the chemistry wrong.

Then it kind of hit me like a brick; Crislie does like Navaeli, she's just not thinking that much about it in a "becky lemme smash" way. So I plonked "ace" down at the end of her label, and bam. Bi ace.

And also poly now that Gildhe has entered the picture.

And also maybe not just girl now that I'm exploring the wyfwolf thing?

Gender on Rhimn is it's own neon-labeled can of trolli gummy worms, so I think I'll touch on it in the next question!

9. Are there cultural or lore specific aspects to their identity? If applicable, does their species affect it?

At the beginning, there wasn't, but now there is.

Okay, so! There are a few important things to know about how Rhimn does gender;

Rhimn is matriarchal. This was true before the Reckoning, and is still true afterward.

For "Alluari had a bad time after the Reckoning and took it out on a whole gender" reasons, conservative parts of Ullua are very strict about gender roles.

For "technically the god ruling us is a Guy, therefore let's pretend that Sexism is Solved" reasons, Gadhi generally doesn't think too hard about its gender norms, even when it should.

(TBH I think Gardhe has the same sense of gender as Nathaniel Finch, ie "it is irrelevant to me but you can call me he, sure." Diversity win, the main antagonist is agender!)

For a variety of reasons (lots of intersex fey, culture of picking their own names & genders, being seen as being below/above human social norms, etc), gender nonconformity is more accepted in feyries than humans.

Due to the influence of feyrie culture, Rhimn has four separate gender categories; male, female, ungendered, and bestial.

The categories are generally associated with he/him, she/her, they/them, and it/its pronouns respectively, but that's not universal. Most wyfwolves consider themselves bestial but use she/her, and Tincre identifies as ungendered while using it/its.

I am probably going to write some in-universe sociology papers about the gender stuff, but bestial in particular is an interesting gender!

It would probably be considered nonbinary/xenogender on Earth, along with the ungendered category, but it's actually grouped more closely with female on Rhimn. Both femininity and feral gender norms lean on aggression. Also, Lykari, the divine being most associated with this gender, is still verifiably a goddess, though not a lady about it.

(Also connects to why Meparik gets "he acts femininely how cute" comments in Ullua; Meparik doesn't necessarily identify as the bestial gender, but he doesn't identify as a human, certainly, and his pent-up aggression gets interpreted in some different ways.)

I think at some point in Book Four, Crislie's going to end up in a conversation with Tincre & some of its students about Actually We Have Four Gender and go "Huh. Kinda into this new gender, actually."

So! Bestial gender Crislie! Yeah!

Thoughts on Ted Lasso s03e05 that I will try to keep horny rather than grumpy except I really dislike Ted:

I really dislike Ted:

I’m very glad Rebecca and Higgins are finally reacting to Ted’s not giving of a fuck about his job. This ep emphasised that (1) the only thing anyone expects Ted to do for the team is make corny speeches and (2) he doesn’t even want to do that anymore and has to be reminded to.

I know this is meant to be a character arc thing where Ted learns things about himself but what can I say, personally I’m less interested in that and more interested in him fucking off back to punny mustacheland.

I also thought it was interesting that earlier in the episode we saw two different approaches to giving a pep talk: Jamie’s, which was short, down-to-earch, and backed by hard work, and Zava’s, which was elaborate, dramatic, insincere (we know Zava does not believe in teamwork), and based on the speaker encouraging his own personality cult. Between those two extremes, Ted’s speech at the end of the episode was a lot more Zava. Empty platitudes from a person who is not engaged, not committed and does not back his words with actions.

Now to the hot things that happened:

When Jack did that. Also everything else about Jack, and Jack and Keeley. What a fun pairing. I don’t mind the workplace romance aspect of it in context. If Keeley was a real-life friend of mine I’d tell her “Don’t fuck the money, you crazy person. You need the money.” But this is a workplace sitcom and that’s what you get. Also, it’s been established that Keeley only works, so she can’t meet anyone else, and I don’t like her only relationship options being getting back with Roy or getting back with Jamie, as if she’s only a trophy for whichever man proves that he deserves her more.

Also these girls are really hot together as an ally to the queer community I appreciate the bi representation.

The joke where Roy gives each Richmond himbo the type of encouragement they personally need, concluding in a gentlemanly “outclass them” and a handshake for Sam, was kind of brilliant AND is successful TV shorthand for Roy becoming the good man-manager he needs to be in order to be a proper coach. Love that. Yeah, good coaching turns me on. Sue me.

ancient queer stuff

'collected works of sappho' is always good place to start, i would recommend anne carson's translation. it is not the most literal in translation but it is the best version in my opinion for understanding the gay emotions that sappho was trying to to convey.

on that note, i would also recommend reading enheduanna's 'poems for the goddess inanna'. think of her as sappho's elder, she was a sumerian poet and the first person we know to have ever created a collection of poems and signed her name to it. she was also very queer.

'the iliad' is also very very gay!! i dont have a favourite translation, my fave greek translator hasn't covered it yet but deffo check homer out.

classic (or modern classic) queer stuff

'orlando' by virginia woolf - a book about a man that wakes up as a woman one day and also immortal. the book is a bisexual in everyway love letter to vita sackville-west, the arguable love of virginia woolf's life. also would recommend reading 'mrs dalloway' or 'a room of one's own' by woolf and literally anything written by vita who was an established writer, too.

'giovanni's room' by james baldwin - this book was really important in my coming out process when i was a teenager. its about letting yourself be loved when you've been raised in shame. james baldwin's writing is a gift. check out his poetry if you're into poetry fs. i also really like baldwin's 'tell me how long the train's been gone'

'the well of loneliness' by radclyffe hall - not a personal fave of mine but definitely an important piece of lesbian literature.

'maurice' by e.m forster - forster hid this book from the world until his death. its about gay happiness and he knew if publishers got their hands on it they would make it about gay sadness. it was publish how forster wanted in the 1970's even though he wrote it in like 1917 or something lol

'wuthering heights' by emily bronte - divisive as always. its a book people either love or hate. its also a confusing read and i would recommend looking up a character map if you do attempt it. however, i'm one of the people that thinks 'wuthering heights' lives up the hype and the first time i read it it broke me.

'pride and prejudice' by jane austen - like wuthering heights but fun!

'the mill on the floss' by george eliot - 'silar marner' is good, too but i like mill better. i wrote my entrance essay for uni on it and my ma used to read it to me when i was little.

'metamorphosis' by franz kafka - anything by kafka is good tbh

'the second sex' by simone de beauvoir - important read that helped me understand a lot about early 20th century feminism, the good and the bad. the book i consider the foundation for a lot of what has come since.

'the lord of the rings' by jrr tolkien - idk if you're looking for fantasy (if you are let me know i'll make another list lol) but if you haven't read lotr, i promise it is better than you can ever imagine. tolkien also lives up to the hype.

lovecraft. start with the cthulhu mythos and branch out from there. 'the call of cthulhu' or 'the dunwich horror' or 'the nameless city' are good entry points imo.

Happy Pride🩷🤎🖤❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Of course I celebrated by crossing off some queer titles from my TBR list! I listened to Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli, Margo Zimmerman Gets the Girl by Brianna R. Shrum and Sara Waxelbaum, and Going Bicoastal by Dahlia Adler this month on Audible. My picks had a noticeable but unintentional trend given each of them are YA with Jewish representation, bi/les couples, redheaded MCs or love interests (or maybe not bc Imogen from Imogen, Obviously may be brunette judging by the artwork on the author’s Instagram…?) and 2/3 mention the movie,

which, thank goddess they did because they had me finally get around to watching it.

But this post isn’t about movies, it’s about books. So let’s get into them.

Imogen, Obviously

Imogen is surrounded by queer friends and family but she herself identifies as a straight ally. To show her support, she’s part of Pride Alliance, she loves queer pop culture, and she’s always there for her loved ones. Case in point, she’s also agreed to go along with her recently out best friend, Lili, and the lie she’s told her new, queer college friends about the two of them previously dating. It’s no problem for Imogen. Except when starts to get close with one of said friends, Tessa, and she begins to struggle with withholding the truth from her. She was never with Lili — she’s not even queer. Or is that only partly true?

TW: Biphobia, pressured/forced outing of a character, toxic friendship, gatekeeping, gaslighting, queer stereotypes

Opinion: First thing’s first, I’ll say it’s probably best to read this book for yourself rather than listen to the audiobook because there is a lot of texting. I was distracted (and slightly annoyed) by the constant mention of character initials and text timestamps within the narration. Other than that, this book resonated with me since I too was once a closeted bisexual whose sexuality was never once questioned because we were all convinced I was straight (curse comphet). Once it dawned on me I am in fact, not straight, it made so much sense looking back. It’s no surprise I’ve also experienced biphobia since coming out. I couldn’t relate to everything in the book; I’ve never found my own Tessa (I love her character) and I’ve never had a queer circle of my own. None of that stopped me from enjoying the story, however, and I can see this book making an impact on others. Especially the next generation.

Margo Zimmerman Gets the Girl

Baby, closeted lesbian, Margo, gets lessons from out-and-proud bisexual, Abbie, on how to “ace” being ✨gay✨ and discovers a new friendship with her experienced mentor, as well as her growing feelings for the girl of her dreams.

TW: Biphobia, homophobia, toxic friendship, gatekeeping, gaslighting, queer and lesbian stereotypes

Opinion: This book was my favorite of the three and I found myself relating a bit to both Margo and Abbie. There’s not much else I can say about it without giving away spoilers but I will say I loved this book and I highly recommend it!

Going Bicoastal

Follow Natalya along two different realities, one where she’s living with her father in New York City and getting to know “the redhead” she’s had her eye on. The other, she’s staying with her mother in Los Angeles and warming up to the intern she shares a desk with at her mother’s place of work.

TW: Self harm, divorce/divorced parents

(Unpopular) Opinion: As a fan of Adler’s Cool for the Summer and Home Field Advantage, not to mention a fan of this concept, I was really excited for this to release. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. While it had potential, I thought it was kind of boring. It seemed to me more care was put into the mentioning of food than the plot. I didn’t develop much of an interest in the characters, either. It was entertaining enough to finish but I wouldn’t personally recommend it. Not over Dahlia’s other works and not over Imogen, Obviously or Margo Zimmerman Gets the Girl. However, if you want to, I encourage you to give it a try yourself and develop your own opinion. There are many other good reviews out there for this one. It appears I’m the odd one out, which is fine.

I'm obsessed with the ekphrasis in this passage primarily because Minerva has a simple olive-leaf border surrounding one (1) scene showing a contest between herself and Neptune, with the Olympians, seeming noble and awesome, overlooking them, and victory crowing her the winner; then four "scenelets" (I find it difficult to discern if she is just depicting the mountains, the two birds, and Cinyras on the temple steps, or the actual action of their transformation/the preceding/following events), depicting the gods as beings not to be trifled with. The passage also includes her reasoning behind including the extra scenes. She is certainly not subtle in making her point...I also love that the topic she chose for her weaving was....her winning another contest, surrounded by the gods defeating lesser beings in...contests. Minerva certainly is the goddess of strategy, not subtly. (and maybe also the goddess of insecurity...who needs to hype themselves up so much to win a contest against a lesser being that they first surprise their quarry, then choose to show themselves as a winner in a past contest...that's like playing a football match with your old season tournament trophy on the sideline...like, why do you need that?)

But Arachne has 22 (!) separate scenes and an elaborate vegetative border. While Minerva depicts the gods with "their own features" (this seems almost rote, like she's working from an existing stylistic template), Arachne's weaving is so accurate that her figures are described as "real"/"true". Her sheer volume of figures simply overtowers Minerva's one piddly scene, as does their message of "the gods are capricious and cruel, even to their own kind". The gods are not stately and awesome in Arachne's tapestry: they are monstrous, terrible beings who contort their forms to take advantage of those who they can, even those who undoubtedly hold as much divine power as they do, as the case is for Neptune's rape of Ceres in lines 118-119. And Ovid doesn't even include her reasoning for creating these scenes, so I have to assume the reasoning is "if these gods are flawed, than Minerva can be, too." I admire her audacity in the face of likely loss and death. I think she knew she was going out, so she chose to go out swinging, and I think that's pretty badass.

I love how Ovid depicts the gods as fallacious and capricious in the Metamorphoses. What does that mean? It is a barometer of public opinion about the gods? Is it just his own opinion or stylization of existing literary traditions and tropes? Is it meant to be a slight to the Imperial family and the Roman state in general (i.e. those in charge are cruel, petty, and unjust)? I'm obsessed. I'm completely obsessed.

But if he could choose one... perhaps, the fates would find it more fitting to assign him something that could better associate him to the rage he feels at hearing the mage-goddess recite ill-intended words of her past.

Bi-coloured eyes darkened under his frown, Zagreus looks to the voice of the witch aiding him and tries to maintain the speed of his words at a more casual pace, compared to the spit-fire he delivers when his father pushes him into that type of defense.

"I find great comfort in hearing you. Granted, I've only recently begun growing... somewhat familiar with the cries of seagulls, but I guarantee you, they are nothing compared to the sound of your voice."

Gods and their... ugh.

He can't claim the relationship he's forging to the transmutation goddess is adorned with a particular amount of positivity - not due to his lack of trying, truly - for there is a wall there he's struggling to get past, one he doesn't want to force himself through, when the goddess must have any and all reason to not want him on the other side.

And even if she simply spoke as she did for reasons that don't run as deep as the conflicts and derision she insinuates here inflicted upon her in the past, Zagreus is not the kind to barrel through.

Any reason to respect someone is a good reason.

But, even in spite of the lack of warmth, he grows fond fast. Yes, he's mature enough to break things off if he's simply not being treated as he too deserves to be treated and he does not hold his tongue if he's less than appreciative of someone's demeanour, but his heart is quick to open.

If he can even chuckle about Theseus nowadays, he most certainly can tilt his head to the side and feel offense for the goddess aiding him.

As someone part of the lgbt+ community, I really got stuck with the "color:freedom". Because his other colours or the light and dark didn't have another word attached, but the color did and it was freedom. Also the colours remind of a bi flag and Jimin has been using those colours so often in different situations. I know I'm projecting, but it really does look like something a queer person might go through (I'm really not the right person to say what kind of inner journeys cis straight people go through so this is only from my pov). And I'm just excited to see the whole thing, because Jimin has been hinting about his inner journey more recently and I'm here for it. (Also the fact he chose Artemis, a goddess, and had her name as a temporary tattoo on his skin... I just would love to have a long conversation with Jimin about all of his choices, it's so fascinating)

Yes! Myself as well. Jimin has definitely been hinting at a lot of things lately (the last couple years especially), most of which is this desire to live authentically and be more true to who he is, to show more sides of himself. It's been a wonderful thing to witness; him becoming himself, and even he has spoken to this as well.

The "hurry up and become me soon" hit my heart HARD.

The journey to oneself can be chaotic - so that part of his book description also struck me.

I also love that he chose Artemis... his continued appreciation of both masculine and feminine is beautiful and I'm SO here for it. Regardless of if he ever makes a concrete statement, I hope that he knows he's loved unconditionally. (I would also love a long, in-depth conversation with him as well)

Izanami's gender is *tv static noise*

Mim doesn't really do labels! Bi and non-binary would be the best way to describe them though. They kind of just, Are, I know that sounds weird. Being a god born of human desire didn't really come with a manual of human's concept of gender and sexuality.

When it comes to their gender, they don't really care what people call them. They mostly use They/She pronouns, but are also fine with He/It too! Sometimes they bind their chest, sometimes they don't, sometimes they dress in a feminine way, sometimes in a masculine way!

Sexuality didn't matter to them at first since they never planned on falling in love or forming any sort of meaningful bond, simply around to watch humankind and gauge their wants and desires. Until Adachi and I rolled into their life and they went "Oh." They found others attractive before ,men and women, of course that's just off passing glances as with how most other people are. They never planned on pursuing them, romantic or platonic, since also most people in Inaba thought they were weird. Plus, you could say Adachi and I had an advantage considering our connection with the TV World, though that or not, coming to terms with their feelings for us was an "Oh No." moment.

So all in all, they don't really have gender and they simply like who they like! None of this was ever meant to be important anyway, so they didn't really think about it, until they broke they really only rule of "Don't get attached to the humans you are observing."

My husband did struggle with remembering what he designed his with no he was struggling with a chain tensioner material and polyethylene was was the choice but it wore out too quick so he put a metal in there eventually and it really decent one and it doesn't do much to the chain cuz it rolls over it actually touched it in the middle and it's used to that it's very strong so I made mine like that too and I added the rear end shock and he made an offset at first it didn't work and he went through several different types of full floater and mine is similar but a little bit different so it rides kind of funny bounces around a little but it feels pretty good because you're actually not bouncing because of the objects you're about because it bounces and people like it cuz it has some spring to it and it kind of straightens out quicker no it's slower but it's a funny ride and . It's also very nice very fast and it's very effective meaning that the Leah rides it sticks to the ground because it bounces and then it stops bouncing and reacts and it's really interesting second softer shot like he was on today and he goes Heras just giving his s***. He's laughing gets out and throw all night I figured it out and says okay so he goes gets on and says I know this it says but do you know Yamaha so he heard he's trying to get him in there and I can hear my father getting mad because he's the one who did it it's not exactly like oh my God. . And it's getting help but we saw it too they said my head is bothering me it's useless it's like these people. So they're laughing and the way they do about you. But really I talk to my father Yamaha and mother Yamaha god and goddess and in that order and they said yes so I'm in and really I have bigger bikes they didn't mention that it starts at a 490 or so and Yamaha stops at around 4:50 and we carried on up to like 1200 or bigger for the off-road dirt and they're big bikes okay they get larger and we're going to start putting it together now forever and I'm taking over the company and you're taking over ATK and the others are joining up and they know who to join up with they have relatives on board like Frank Castle hardcastle he's with KTM. And you have all who she's joining up with okay it might be Suzuki good that's great and mako they'll be joining up with Kawasaki until Saturday explain that that might explain that and falling into the water several hundred times to learn how to has swim. And Thor Freya say yes that's correct. And bull taco teams up with bi-tool and goddess wife it's going to be a big huge thing going on right there and they're great bikes a whole taco bull taco and last but not least Husqvarna which is a big name in the industry just as Atlas and goddess Wi-Fi and I said I think it's Ajax and got his wife and it is and there might be more bikes but this is what we remember so far it's awesome I'm going to sign up and Yamaha it's one of my husband's favorite bites he saw in the window and was in love with it it's a beautiful yellow motorcycle and an 80 and he wanted to get it and he couldn't and Mark had a KX80 and he wants to get the Yamaha and he couldn't get it so he's been trying things for a long time then finally just bought one and of course she was strapped but boy it's a lot of fun and these bikes are big so my husband has to get bigger he says I need money cuz I won't be able to eat enough to stay healthy and that's good

This is a huge deal and it's going to make everything work much better it's a tie across the ocean and even with Russia because they might team up with China it's a massive deal and our son says this is an interesting idea and the company like hard knock kicker 5150 cuz he's not sure what models are they're probably only a couple and it's true could sign up with the Chinese motorcycle company and also use the motors from Hard knock and the same with American motorcycle company and they're going to go ahead and do that now even though they don't have any stores but they do sell a lot of them and we don't have any Harley Davidson stores the only thing we got out of there is bikes of yours that are sold online we're going to go ahead and do that now it's a great idea and then he said no we have Japanese companies that have these stores but that's for the big bikes and they see it too so they're going ahead and doing it now
