7x05 promo meta
Thank you 911 for dropping those stills - its save you all from my terrible quality screen shots!
This was supposed to be a costume meta, and it is, but things rather got away from me so its got a bit of a mishmash of spec and the like in it! its probably incoherent but my brain is whirring!
Ok first things first - Firehouse!
Soooo whenever we've had firehouse scenes before between Buck and Eddie, the one not in uniform is the one receiving advice - Buck after he found out about Daniel, Eddie during the Black out etc. So I expect this scene to play to a similar theme.
The green jacket for Buck is an interesting one for me, green is all about growth - especially this shade of green. I think this scene will be the first time Buck and Eddie see one another in person - Buck perhaps re-apologising to Eddie, clearing the air, Eddie offering buck some advice (i don't know exactly what advice, but perhaps along the lines of not bottling things up and talking to him etc!).
The fact its a broadcloth jacket harks back to his shirt jacket from Eddies breakdown - that one was very red, so there's no direct connection to the meaning of that jacket from a colour theory perspective, but there is a wider theme connecting to the broadcloth - broadcloth is a fabric that was historically used for military uniforms (it still is) so the use of broadcloth has this element of going to war - unlike the red jacket that signalled danger and Buck going to 'war' to both get to Eddie and to then help him in the aftermath, this one is more likely to be a war related to Bucks 'bad behaviour' from the basketball game and I think and with the green of the jacket meaning growth, I expect this scene to show them on a more even footing - one where the one doesn't need to go to war for the other, because the 'war' is over, this is the aftermath now and Buck has grown (in the same way that Eddie was in green during and after his breakdown - he grew from that moment)
Tumblr media
Date night - for Buck and Tommy
Tumblr media
Firstly I want to mention the fact that Check theory is in overdrive for this scene - the check is literally everywhere - floor, tablecloths, walls, windows, the guy sat to the side of Tommy. Something is clearly going to happen that is going to lead to some sort of chaos. My money is on Check shirt guy suddenly becoming ill and interupting both dates (call back to Buck choking on bread would be chefs kiss imo as that was Bucks first proper date!!).
I originally thought his was the same shirt Buck wore when he was trying to donate sperm - however, turns out it isn't it isn't, this is a knit bowling shirt while the one from the sperm donation storyline was a knit polo (no buttons all the way down the front). I do think the remarkable similarity between the two shirts is relevant though. because Buck trying to donate sperm, was Buck trying to start a new life, but it was a false start when he was wearing the similar shirt (because the power was out at the clinic) and he is essentially doing the same thing here - he's on his first 'date with a dude' and is starting a new life as a bisexual man - only it seems he's probably going to try and hide it from Eddie - thus a false start in the same way his first attempt to donate sperm was. thing is, Buck was successful in making his donation in the end, so even if he has a couple of false start in this episode, he'll be successful in the end (see the end of this meta for the reason why!!)
Tommy is in brown (possibly a dark olive green, but it looks more brown to me at this moment in time!). Brown is of course one of Eddies staple colours, so we are continuing with the Tommy Being costumes as a version of Eddie!
But Brown is a colour of stability and strength - its solid ground. It's showing us that Tommy is completely comfortable in his sexuality (whatever denomination of queer he is as we don't know at this point!). Its also a colour of safety support and protection (its why many police and military uniforms around the world are brown - meant to invest a sense of protection - a reflection of what that job is supposed to be!). for me thats playing on the idea that Tommy is going to protect and support Buck on this date - Buck not wanting to come out to Eddie in that moment and Tommy supporting that and protecting Bucks right to chose when and how he gets to come out to the people in his life (and I adore him for that!) is my guess on why he's wearing brown here.
Tumblr media
Eddie and Marisol's date night
(as an aside - Bucks face in the still below is hilarious!!)
Tumblr media
I already mentioned the pink handbag in my 7x04 meta, but now we also have a pink skirt to add into the mix and its a ditsy print of two shades of pink, which not only further supports my pink and innocence theory about this season, but it also plays into how both Shannon and Ana were costumes as well - in lots of pink and in ditzy prints!!! Marisol (who doesn't even have a last name) is not long for the world of 911 - if it doesn't end in this episode, its gonna be over very very soon! She is going to essentially be an innocent bystander in whatever the hell is going to go down at this date night fun house we're about to see, whether her seemingly naive personality (well what little personality she seems to have!) plays into things as well, we'll have to wait and see!
The other aspect of this outfit that is making me laugh is the fact that the skirt is giving me 1980's/early 1990's teen vibes (not to out myself as old but trust me I had some just like this back then and I wouldn't be caught dead in it now as a grown woman!!) and the baby pink handbag looks like something an 8 year old would have to play dress up with - its all very childish and immature - naive one could say, and its suggesting to me that we're going to see some pretty childish behaviour from her at some point in this episode (we'll have to wait and see if I'm right!). The other aspect oof this childish style we're seeing on her plays into Eddies narrative of looking for magic and trying to recreate what he had with Shannon. Its for me one of the reasons why i think we have s2 Eddies hair back, especially this greased back version in this scene - its a nod to his s2 arc when he tried to recreate the magic with Shannon. Eddies journey is about learning that he cannot recapture or recreate that magic he had when he was young - that the love of youth - in all its innocence is not something that is sustainable or actually what he wants in the present. for me, him figuring this out is an important part of his wider un-repression arc and will allow him to move forward and learn that he needs to build a relationship on a stronger foundation that magic and innocence. That (ghost of a) second chance with Shannon ended up as a literal car crash (sorry to be blunt but it was a metaphor back then too!) so my feeling is that this is going to go the same way - and end in a figurative (at least) car crash.
As for the chain necklace! you can read my 6x15 metas for a fuller run down this one is the most comprehensive one (and theres some stuff lurking on other meta posts as well) but essentially every single one of Buck or Eddies girlfriends have worn a chain necklace (there is also a bracelet too, which I think Marisol wore in 7x01 but her scene was so blink and you'll miss it that I can't get a good still to be sure!) of this style - I never did get to writing the full meta on the chain necklaces I intended - the season 6 finale rather deflated my enthusiasm to do so, but I can talk about it here so, things worked out I guess!
Chains are a representation of incarceration, or of holding something back. they are a huge symbol of slavery and are used in derogatory terms when used to talk about relationships (the old ball and chain etc). This is why we see them on all the women connected to either Buck or Eddie, and never on any of the other female characters in the show - these women are essentially holding Buck and Eddie back, they are chains to be broken free of.
Tumblr media
Then we have Eddie in his white shirt! There are a couple of reasons I am completely in love with this choice! firstly is the most obvious, it paints things very black and white for Eddie and Marisol - they are opposites! In this context, the wardrobe department are deliberately creating that opposition between them - and in combo with that pink bag and skirt - things aren't going to end well for them.
Black is a colour that sucks light and colour from things (yes there is the concept of the little black dress etc for dating but thats more about timeless elegance and Marisol is not wearing a black dress!) that absorbs everything around it - you can see in the picture below how the black of her top is absorbing the colour while Eddies white shirt is bouncing it around and glowing with the red - its especially obvious on her sleeve which is partially sheer and partially matt - the sheer parts are picking up the light, making the black non sheer parts still look black.
The other reasons I am living for the Eddie in a white shirt of it all is the fact that it really highlights that red lighting - this use of red - in this setting at that moment - when it doesn't appear to be anywhere else in the scene and certainly not around Buck and Tommy - can only mean danger and anger. Its telling us that Eddie is not happy - jealous definitely (that look is one of jealousy!) its also hinting at underlying anger though. My thoughts on this is that its playing into Eddie having to face up to his feelings for Buck - that he understands them, and perhaps feels like he missed his shot
Tumblr media
The other reason I'm obsessed with the choice to put Eddie in a white shirt is this ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
Tumblr media
Because yes that is Eddie in white and Buck in dark blue, and yes that is the only other time we've seen Eddie in white in the entire show (excepting white shorts in fight club and even they fit the theme we're seeing here). Seeing them in the same colour ways here is very much giving Buck and Eddie divorce era 3.0 (fight club/lawsuit was 1.0 and the one above was 2.0) vibes.
Having dinner with Buck (or in the same space as Buck) and his current partner and the blue and white (and green that Tommy is wearing which matches the green that Taylor was wearing) is definitely a choice. This scene in season 5 was essentially a Buck and Eddie break up - 'move on Buck, I have' - we all know how that spiral ended - with Eddie digging in with his leaving the 118 and excluding himself from the firefam and Buck cheating on Taylor and asking her to move in with him.
thing is Eddie has form for doing dumb things when he feels under stress or pressure (asking Shannon to marry him again, fight club after her death and Buck suing the firehouse, leaving the 118 and not getting the help he needed until he had a major breakdown to name 3!)- so if we saw some kind of parallel to this scene - (this is especially in light of Eddie talking to Bobby about the job in this episode) where Eddie doubles down on a poor decision (don't know what but I'm currently speculating that its maybe asking Marisol to move in with him way way too soon - when he doesn't know her - hello episode title) in the same way Buck did with Taylor (because he is faced with the fact he could've had a chance with Buck after-all and is emotionally cheating on Marisol) and it plays into
I'm not saying we're going to be getting rid of Marisol in 7x05 (unfortunately) but I am saying the writing is on the wall for that relationship - there are too many costuming signs on both Eddie and Marisol for it not to be headed in the direction of ending. My guess from what I'm seeing with these costumes and that lighting, is that 'Ghost of a second chance' is when it will come to a head - it plays into the theming of Shannon redux and car crashes, learning from past mistakes before you repeat them.
And finally we're at Bucks loft!
Not saying this is at the end of the episode - I have zero idea where its going to land - every time I see a new still from it I'm more confused and decide its going to be at a different point of the episode!
Anyway, thats not important! Eddie is in his Buck 'date night' shirt - the one he wears when he has serious talks with Buck in the loft. thing that is different this time, is the fact he's in jeans rather than the green trousers he's worn on every other occasion. Something about that is making me feel like, while this scene is likely to be similar in that its going to be a serious talk, and I'm sure from the way it looks in the stills we're going to see Eddie reassuring Buck as we have in previous scenes, I think we might find this one is going to give us Buck and Eddie on a more even footing that we've seen before.
Tumblr media
I'm fascinated that the Christopher watch is not visible in the above still, but it's very visible in the below one, and in the other stills we've got. We don't often see it hidden under eddies sleeves - we usually see it more like we can see it in the date night stills - visible with the shirt slightly tucked underneath. haven't figured out if its going to be significant or not yet - I need to see the scene!
We do have to talk about the looks they are giving each other here though - especially Buck!!! because I mean!!!! its kind of giving me don't keep things from me again vibes!!
Tumblr media
I am very much loving that they put Buck in this jumper though! it is the one from the sperm donor storyline - when Buck tells Eddie, Hen and Chim he is 'responsible for creating new life.' I love this specific parallel because there is the play on the fact that Buck is now living a new life - that he's figured something out about himself - that he's creatinga new life forhimself - one where he is bisexual, and openly so (as we know he's going to tell people in this episode and hell he might be telling Eddie in this scene!). the other thing is that this light blue colour, throughout season 6 became a real representation of Buck journey of self discovery - all the way back to Lev at the happiness convention and his year of yes, right through to post Lightning strike Buck who was trying to wrestle with his death and his rebirth - the light blue here really ties all of this together beautifully
Tumblr media
Right thats All at this point - I'm sure my brain will conjure up other things once i've hit post, but for right now - I'm off to bed!!

Eddie chose their bachelor party outfits
Buck explains that it was an 80’s themed party and that he was dressed as Crocket and Eddie as Tubbs, then Eddie corrects him and says HE is Crockett and Buck is Tubbs.
We all know Buck’s pop culture knowledge is lacking and the fact that he got their character names mixed up and Eddie corrects him tells me that Eddie chose them. Why is this interesting?
Because Crocket and Tubbs are the guys from Miami Vice. If you don’t know it we’ll forgive you since it aired from 1984 – 1989, before a lot of you were probably born or old enough to be watching it. Before either Buck or Eddie were born too, by the way (and Christ don’t I feel old since I was in high school when it ended).
So, Eddie choosing to go as Sonny Crockett is FASCINATING to me. Quoting heavily from this article:
“Sonny struggles with depression, gets attached easily and just as easily hurt and makes dad jokes. Sonny is prickly, vulnerable, and deeply sad. I would also argue that he’s pretty heavily queercoded, and I don’t think it’s entirely unintentional.”
Sound somewhat familiar at all?
Interestingly, the penultimate episode of season 1 is titled Evan. Why is that interesting, you ask? As this article says, “Oh, you know, it’s then the moment Sonny’s possible bisexuality starts to seem like an intentional implication rather than an accident of incautious scripting”…
There’s a lot more to Miami Vice of course, and my memory of it is filtered through 30 years of life so it’s not perfect. You can find out more for yourselves if you want. I just find it very interesting that it’s Eddie who went as Crockett instead of Buck.
Interesting and exciting when we view it through the lens of Buddie possibly going canon in the future.
Why did you choose to be Crockett, Eddie? What is your subconscious telling you that you aren’t ready to hear yet Mr Diaz ‘who freaked out that your girlfriend was a Catholic nun’, hmmm?
I wonder…

Ok, so
Ep 07x04 - Buck, bothered and bewildered
Possibly referring to the song
Bewitched, Bothered, And Bewildered by Ella Fitzgerald
Some lyrics:
Men are not a new sensation I've done pretty well I think But this half-pint imitation Put me on the blink
Lost my heart, but what of it He is cold I agree He can laugh, but I love it Although the laugh's on me
He's a fool and don't I know it But a fool can have his charms I'm in love and don't I show it Like a babe in arms
Love's the same old sad sensation Lately I've not slept a wink Since this half-pint imitation Put me on the blink
But I'm like sweet seventeen a lot
"Couldn't eat, was dyspeptic
Life was so hard to bear
Now my heart's antiseptic
Since you moved out of there
Romance, finis, your chance, finis
So this ep will be focused on Buck
We know he's - yet again- on a self discovery journey but - hopefully- finally reaching the turning point
This whole song is very much Buck like... "lost my heart but what for", "Love's the same old sad sensation", "but I'm like sweet 17 a lot"
That's one side of it
The other is being stunned and revived by someone
I'm wondering if he maybe has a bi re-awakening
Some guy he absolutely crushes on and only then does he realize that... Actually if I can have sex with guys, why not have a relationship with them... Maybe this will change something...
And he finally, very slowly, starts to realize something
Or
It's all just about Natalia and him realizing that it's not it and he was just a little bit bewitched
Cause the "bewitched" is missing in the title and that means that he's not anymore but now he's
Bothered - cause he fell into the same pattern like always
Bewildered - cause something is dawning on him
Still choosing a song with the line "Men are not a new sensation" is WILD
-
Episode 7x05 - You don't know me
Possibly referring to the song
You Don't Know Me by Ray Charles
To you, I'm just a friend That's all I've ever been No, you don't know me
I never knew the art of making love Though, my heart aches with love for you, yeah I'm afraid and shy, I let my chance go by A chance that you might love me too
You give your hand to me, and then, you say goodbye And then, I watched you walk away beside the lucky guy I know you'll never know the one who loved you so No, you don't know me
I mean this screams Eddie pov
If Buck does have a bi thing going on...
Eddie would possibly be like... Oh so it would've been a possibility after all?
But now I'm too late
And he obviously only ever saw me as a friend
I pray to all the TV gods this will result in a talk with either Karen or Maddie
Cause even though we all agree the man has already realized his feelings for Buck
If there was a bi thing... that would change his perspective
But he'd also be afraid
Thus a talk with either a competent queer person (who is not the 118) or someone who knows a side of Buck he doesn't and knows if that could actually still be a real possibility
But honestly that's just what I wish for myself here
Anyway
I think though that watching Buck with Natalia, it makes Eddie's heart ache and Marisol will just be another Ana... Just a way to do what's expected of him, what's right, what seems good
But also I feel the "You don't know me" directly relates to the "She sees me"
So I feel... Maybe something happens and - like always- Eddie is there and giving Buck exactly what he needs cause he knows and sees Buck
Maybe Buck makes a queer related joke... Something along the lines of...
Haha wouldn't it be easier if you liked guys, we could just date each other!...
and Eddie answers "I'm afraid, you don't know me that well"
Ok I'm venturing into fic inspo now
But I think the contrast of these two songs is so interesting and the way they relate to Buddie SO HARD
And I will not stop talking about that god damn "Men are not a new sensation" line
Anyways we all didn't want to clown again but I'm afraid the clown train is boarded and rolling and it's a party

Ok so here are my thoughts on the sneak peek or next week's episode:
Ignore the horrible quality screen-caps
Tumblr media
The vibes. They went to a cute Italian place which feels very homey - nothing like where buck has been on dates in the past (mainly coffee shops and bars). They split a pizza, and ordered a pitcher. Possibly beer since that's what they discussed, but honestly could also be ice tea. The napkins are used, which suggests that Tommy is either looking at a dessert menu, or the bill. If he's paying for them both, I could see Buck not knowing what to do with that.
Tumblr media
2. Tommy's face. When Buck says he's "not weirded out" Tommy gives him such a look. To me this means 'oh this man is freaking out'. I don't think Tommy realized that this was Buck's first date with a guy. Yet, Buck is smiling - so I don't think he's unhappy, just out of the comfort zone, which is to be expected. His little head shake when he admits that this is his first time seems almost embarrassed.
Tumblr media
3. This is from the next clip, when Eddie and Marisol show up. I've seen some people speculate about a double date, but this is unlikely to me because they are sitting at a 2 person table, and have already eaten, when Eddie and Marisol just arrived. It is unclear if this comes before or after the other wide shot, because there is more pizza, but less drink. Also, body language. Tommy is open and happy to see Eddie, but Buck looks like he wishes he could hide under the table. His face, his hands awkwardly on the table...
Tumblr media
4. In the clip from the call, the guy is choking buck. My screen-cap is horrible but its clear what is going on. My guess is that this is after the date, because Buck's shirt is open decently at the restaurant and it feels like the guy is latched on hard enough to bruise. Interesting choice to give Buck laryngeal trauma in the episode where he gets Italian - reminds me of Abby and the bread incident in S1.
My overall timeline for this ep goes like this:
Buck talks to Eddie about ankleggate and Eddie asks him if there's anything else and he says no
Date
starts off great
This is my first date with a dude
this was great
Eddie shows up
You're a little tense
semi-awkward ending to the date
Crazy hand call
Station awkwardness/Buck feels like hes lying to Eddie
Existential crisis with Maddie/Hen
Henren baby drama and Eddie's relationship drama
Going to go talk to Eddie
Eddie says he and Marisol broke up
End of ep
Of course with multiple scenes of Hen and Eddie's lives.

Maddie’s word choice when Buck told her about his date with Tommy in 705 was so gentle and supportive, as we’ve all discussed. But her words were also SO SLICK!!!
She was treading lightly because she of course knew that this was a sensitive time for Buck AND she also did some math in her head over the course of the conversation and realized that there’s a piece of the equation that Buck is missing. She couldn’t just give Buck the answer though. Some puzzles he’s gotta work out on his own.
So. Looking more closely at the actual dialogue…
Buck gives Maddie the rundown of the evening’s happenings. Maddie notices the date’s pronoun. Then:
Buck: Yeah, okay, I was on a date with a guy. Again, not-not really the point.
Maddie: Mmm, it could very much be the point.
Remember, Buck is upset with himself for lying to Eddie *and doesn’t understand why he did that* He thinks it’s about dating a man in general. I think Maddie suspects it’s actually about Buck’s unrealized/unexpressed feelings for Eddie. The lie Buck is reeling over probably isn’t about dating a man, but about dating the wrong man.
Back to the conversation. Buck explains his allyship, then:
Maddie: So-so now you’re more than an ally?
Buck: It was my first time, it was dinner and a movie, and I - I didn’t even make it to the movie.
Maddie is following Buck’s reasoning in the ally part of the conversation, but clearly not quite vibing with parts of it. She’s in support mode, basically honoring Buck’s process and his journey. But still trying to navigate her own in the moment reactions without freaking Buck out. Treading lightly.
After Buck’s last remark above, cue Maddie’s haunted facial expression in which she clearly reviews countless past events and conversations with Buck in light of his new discovery about himself:
Maddie: Wow.
Buck: What, ‘wow’?
Maddie: No, not ‘wow’. Like, ‘Wow. I didn’t think that’s where your interests would lie.”
From my perspective she clearly and firmly rejected the ‘wow, you’re queer, what the hell. Way to be a massive enigma little brother’ interpretation…because obviously she would reject that. But that second clarification ‘wow’ doesn’t mean what Buck thought it meant. I honestly do NOT think she was saying ‘I didn’t think/know that you might be into guys too’.
Maddie is basically Buck mom for all intents and purposes, and she knows him well. To be fair, most people close to Buck know him better than he knows himself in key ways so with Maddie’s canon comments about Buck’s sexuality over the years, there’s no way she didn’t have her hunches. Period. What I think Maddie actually meant was that she didn’t think Buck had eyes for any guy but Eddie at this point. After doing the new math in her head real quick, of course.
I think that tracks with what she said a little later and how she said it:
Maddie: Okay, I don’t think you’re a fraud, I just think that maybe you’re not sure of your own feelings yet. And if there’s something that you need to tell Eddie, you will. Just, in your own time.
Between that line and her facial expressions, Maddie was on a damn journey! Imho it took everything in her to not just say ‘Wait what?! Eddie is your person my guy let’s be so for real right now’. She was a mix of confused and exasperated in the home stretch of that conversation lol. Still she showed up, met Buck where he was at, and supported him.
Then to top off that whole ‘coming out’ and ‘feeling like a fraud’ scene, Maddie says to Buck “so tell me about the hot pilot” and the scene immediately transitions to Eddie in bed with Marisol. Yeah, Eddie is the hot pilot in question. Buck just hasn’t figured it out yet, and Maddie realizes **all of that** now!

some extracts from stuff I was reading but didn't put in my gardens post...having thoughts about them...
its residue of family history and nostalgia -> "I used to hate apples, so my mum put faces on them."
private comfort sharpened by contrast the terror of invasion by alien spirits -> "Something came a while ago to hide. It's still hiding," + "it's been eating away at your life for a long time now."
an uncertain, disintergrating order that transcends the limits of rational separations -> "two parts of space and time that should never have touched, pressed together"
gardens actually needed to involve "a fall from somewhere or something" -> "Box falls out of the sky, man falls out of a box" + the Doctor accidentally leaving Amy behind being presented as a fall from grace + "He'll rise higher than ever before and then fall so much further," + Demon's Run is an honorary garden because the Doctor leaves Amy behind again (it's also a place of life+death, false safety, the Doctor's failure):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
linking your garden post because it's incredibly relevant
Been doing some digging of my own and etymology overlaps between the words "garden" and "paradise" are quite astonishing. A semantic connection was to be expected (well duh), but I found out that both words circle back to "enclosure". [Old Iranian: pairi (enclose, surround) + daeza (wall) & Indo-Germanic ghordo (fence, enclosure)] I don't know... curious how the equivalent of bliss is to be described as a sharply defined environment above all. What's the main goal? To keep in or to keep out?
The garden paradox... exceeding the limits of known reality and yet remaining within a specific realm because once the line is crossed the garden is risking forest status, something about it will inevitably be altered. (forbidden fruit anyone?) Amy's childhood garden functions as a metaphor for The Runaway Bride Amy AND as a conscious barrier designed to keep her behind the walls of the same story, in which case Amy encapsulates the garden symbolism once again. (and that fits the theme of 5x01 screenshot you shared)
Then there's this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the shots above are the touchstone of these ideas, it's a story swallowing itself whole. (goes for both scenes individually and their relation to one another) Amy in her wedding dress (traditional motif) covered in (artificial!) flowers that gradually disappear as you get further away from her heart (she is everything the garden represents) and then slowly reappear again as you reach the hem of her skirt. (her arc is repetitive, it always leads back to that garden hence her last appearance) Her door resembling the Tardis, white nightgown, white wedding dress... Everything she does has to have its twin moment, everything she does is enclosed by something she understands, but can't prevent from happening (overgrown garden framing both of those shots) even and especially if it's harmful. (Cassandra!) The garden is sacred, the garden is a prison... Amy is a piece of galactic fabric taken right from the crux of everything (Amy Pond as the heart of the TARDIS... nobody look at me) and yet, she's constantly pushed into scenarios that demand for her to make a definite decision. She's completely unfamiliar with common mechanisms of beginnings and endings (...she's always waiting... she doesn't make sense...) and her story is nothing but peppered with beginnings and endings. This is why she thrives in the frozen timeline! (re: The Wedding of River Song) Time works in her favour only when there's something wrong with it, when everything that ever happened ceases to exist chronologically. (this unites our non-narrative gals once again, because for the TARDIS, non-linear timestreams ARE the one true reality, I love taking the alien metaphors of DW to an imaginary level I myself invented) oh and if anybody is interested, this is (one of the online places) where Ivy and I talk about Amy being the embodiment of the TARDIS (X)
"A residue of family history and nostalgia" is something that can also be said about graveyards and well... you know.
Tumblr media
Also the first and the last time Amy sees the TARDIS it's right after it's suffered a malfunctioning of sorts -> fall from grace.
I love the idea of definite shapes and objects being crowned irrational and fictitious in this setting because it's Amy! Everything is bookended... nothing ever ends... Dr saying "Amelia Pond, get your coat!" in AGMGTW...

I keep seeing posts about how us Buddie fans are just being delusional. How we need to stop reading so much into what’s being said during interviews and oh also how it’s offensive to the current ship.
First of all let’s be clear here Buck is NOT in a relationship with Tommy. I feel like this is something you Buck/Tommy shippers are failing to grasp because I constantly see posts about how Buck shouldn’t cheat on Tommy. They have kissed once and been on 2ish dates they are not a couple yet. Being exclusive requires a conversation or at least some acknowledgment by the characters and we haven’t had that yet. They still barely know each other.
Second we have always theorized about Buddie when the characters were with other love interests. We did when Buck was with Taylor. We did when Eddie was with Ana. Is it somehow different now because Tommy is a guy? Is it different now because Buck and Tommy aren't straight? Or is it just because Buck is dating the guy you want him to be with now? I don't know there's just something very strange about how some of you are responding to Buddie/Buddie shippers with all of this.
What's even crazier to me is that so many of you who are all about Buck/Tommy now used to be Buddie shippers or still say you'll be happy if Buddie happens down the line. Yet you're still attacking Buddie and our meta and speculation because it threatens the current ship you want at the moment.
No one is saying that every one of our theories and speculation is 100% correct but we have always speculated on the show and the interviews this isn't something new people are doing. I feel like the response some you have is that we're somehow seeing/hearing only what we want to and or twisting the words of the actors/etc to fit some kind narrative we have about Buddie.
It's not like we're seeing interviews where Oliver, Lou, Tim, etc are saying Buck and Tommy are going to be together 4eva and then immediately twisting that to mean oh they must be lying Buddie is so obviously happening tomorrow. We're inferring what we think might happen based on spoilers and what the actors (and Tim) have said combined with what we hope might happen. We know not everything we think will happen will. We had a ton of theories on 7x04 and 7x05 (many of which turned out to not be true) and despite what some of you think we didn't all collectively lose our shit because they didn't come true.
You can dislike Buddie and us all you want and can disagree with us or our theories all you want but these posts talking about how we're just seeing what we want and setting ourselves up for disappointment come across as hypocritical (considering most of you used to be Buddie shippers) and patronizing. We don't need or want you to save us from our fandom experience. If we're disappointed by the storyline that's our business but right now we're having fun with where things in the show are and are going.
---
I also really don't like how some of you are trashing Buddie to prop up Buck/Tommy. Basically saying that because Buck and Eddie's feelings haven't been verbally confirmed on screen (like in an I'm in love with you kind of way) that we're making it into something it's not and it's not fair to Buck/Tommy because they are canon.
Buddie isn't in a romantic relationship at the moment but they have loved and supported one another and always been been more than friends since basically the beginning. Even Oliver just confirmed that Buck was attracted to Eddie from the first scene. And no attraction alone doesn't equal love but if you can look at the six seasons of history shared by these two characters and only see two bros being the bestest friends you really need to take some media literacy.
I feel like some of you don't understand that not every part of a fictional story is spelled out super literally nor should it be. We know how deep Buck and Eddie's love goes because we can infer that based on their scenes. On all the ways they are there for one another, on how they treat each other, on how their relationship differs from the other friendships on the show. On all the things they say and don't say to one another. A big reason we want to see them in a canon romantic relationship is because of how clear the show has already made it that these two men love each other.
As for Tommy even though I'm not a multishipper I get Tommy's significance in the storyline. I'm also more thankful than I can put into words that Oliver and the show have decided to do Buck's bi awakening storyline epecially considering I'm bi myself. Buck being bi and his journey is incredibly important all on it's own but Buddie being canon is equally as important not because we need to see these guys together but because of what they represent. We have never had a slow burn same sex love story like this and the way it would change media forever if Buddie were to be canon cannot be understated.

7x05 Buddie Meta YDKM Part 4 (of 4)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
I really didn't want this meta to be four parts again, but there's just SO MUCH to analyze. Thanks for sticking with me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eddie is aware that going the route of trying to force a relationship, the route of over-committing almost never works for him, and yet he still wants to try again despite knowing that something inside him was trying to warn him this episode. He's ignored the signs yet again.
Going back again to the notion that Eddie doesn't really want to try again with this relationship because he so desperately wants to get to know Marisol. We know he doesn't, because we just saw when he was on his own, he closed the box on Marisol's things, his metaphorical chance to get to know her. So what does he really want to work out this time? The relationship. A relationship. Eddie would really like it if this relationship could work because as we saw earlier in the episode with Bobby, Eddie wants the relationship so badly, the domesticity so badly, that he doesn't care who it's with. He let go too early with Ana, and this time he's not doing that.
Eddie's words don't match his actions. He tells Marisol he wants to start over with her, get to know her, but he doesn't really act like it. It's possible in future episodes he might try to put in an effort, but at least from his attitude right before Marisol walked in, it didn't really feel like he was being genuine. So I'm not sure if really getting to know her is really what he wants. Sure, maybe this time he'll get to know Marisol, but I don't think it'll matter what he does or doesn't learn about her. Something will always be wrong, and he's going to have to learn that on his own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tone of this scene is made to make us feel hopeful, and yet the words themselves aren't really that hopeful. They speak of Marisol moving out in the hopes of starting over and getting to know Eddie better. Though he's smiling, Eddie's words feel odd. He's happy she's moving out. I'm not entirely convinced it's because he's excited to get to know her. Maybe that's an aspect of it, but it just feels to me like he's relieved she's moving out.
Additionally, I want to point out that Marisol was first introduced in season six in an episode called Home Invasion, and in this episode that was exactly what she was. She invaded Eddie's home, though it was an invasion he invited, and almost immediately regretted. I get the feeling that this episode's title isn't to be ignored because although we finally got to know a little bit about Marisol, Eddie failed to really learn the true root of his issues--because it's not catholicism, though it may be a part of it. When Eddie closed the box on getting to know Marisol, he closed the box on examining himself further, and therefore, Eddie still hasn't gotten to know his true self yet. However, I do believe this is the start of his arc, and more of this will be progressively deconstructed throughout this season, and probably extend into next season. I get the feeling that we're laying the groundwork now and that next season it's going to really pop off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the same vein, Buck admits that he and Tommy don't know much about each other as well. The difference here is that Buck actually looks open to learning more about Tommy, open to actually seeing if what they have could be something worth exploring further.
Tumblr media
Tommy however does demonstrate a real care for Buck's feelings here. Maybe he could've communicated that a little bit better after their date, but his actions were done out of care for Buck in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This line was once again vague. Because in the moment, you're lead to believe that Buck's unsure about possibly being in a relationship with a man, but wanting to explore it. In my opinion, this is another one of those statements just like the one Maddie gave him earlier in the episode, where he knows that he's on the right path now that he's discovered and accepted that he likes men, but he's not yet discovered who the right person he should be on this path with is yet. But something in him tells him that this, exploring men, is the right path, and that's what he's ready for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But for the time being, Buck wants to explore what he has with Tommy and I think that's a good thing. But it is also a good indicator that Bucktommy is not endgame and somewhere inside Buck (and likely Tommy too), he knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then get an interesting parallel with Buck and Eddie once again by having Buck make a pretty big step forward with Tommy. Most people would agree that asking someone you've only been on one date with to be your date to a wedding you're involved in is a pretty big jump. It's slightly more "serious" than they are at the moment. Whether or not this will backfire is yet to be seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I very briefly want to touch on the characters they're supposed to be. I originally did not understand the reference, but I saw this opinion piece someone posted on twitter and thought it was interesting to share.
Tumblr media
I just find it interesting that the writers made the choice for Buck and Eddie to be wearing couple costumes in the likeness of a pair that was also at some point read as queer-coded and had an "inseparable" relationship yet was never allowed to move out of subtext. Even if it wasn't the original writers of Miami Vice's intention, that doesn't matter to me. The fact that the relationship between Crockett & Tubbs appears to be a mirror to Buck & Eddie is what fascinates me.
This episode as a whole was mostly what I was expecting with Eddie doubling down on Marisol, but at the same time, I did NOT see the nun stuff coming and I definitely didn't see them diving into catholic guilt coming. My hope is that this laying down the groundwork to have Eddie work through these issues more later because this feels far from over.
I'm confident that this is the start of Eddie's eventual queer realization arc and I'm willing to wait however long it takes for them to write through it thoroughly.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Omg ok so much good stuff to discuss in your amazing response!! First off, thank you for the analysis, you picked up on so many subtle implications I missed. 1. What happens when they demand you press your claim and take what is mine?” Confirmation: Dany always knew Jon wasn’t in love with her. If she thought he was, she wouldn’t have thought this. And suspected/knew he may be manipulating her. 2. I think she kinda began looking for a reason to justify executing Jon. As you point out she
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey, Anon! Thank you so much for the compliment!!! =D You are truly too kind. =) And omg, I am so sorry this took me so long to reply to!!!
1) Oooo, yes, I think Dany suspected it all along tbh, but I think she hoped that a) her manipulation would supersede his & b) he would love her the way she wanted him to and that love (and belief/devotion) would come first. I think that's really why she had such an issue with Sansa rather than Arya or Bran (besides the obvious love people had for Sansa in the North). Not only was Jon not willing to "hurt" his family for her, especially Sansa, but also it was obvious he still valued Sansa's opinion (that she could see to an extent) and was a rival for him (I'm not even talking romantically at this point, though that's obviously still very much a thing as well with the whole love triangle).
I have this whole meta on how Jon and Sansa were also two sides of the same coin (I swear, I will get around to finishing these metas sometime soon, I promise lol) and Sansa was very much a threat to Dany but not only because of her being a Queen the people would love or because she didn't want Dany on the IT or because she wouldn't bend the knee or because she loved Jon as well. I truly believe Sansa represented Jon for Dany in a way, the part of him that couldn't be tamed or controlled or manipulated. She was his Stark side, the side Dany very much wanted to crush and dominate, and get under her rule. Jon and Sansa have way too many parallels that not only complement one another but also show had they joined forces/come together as one, that was the power couple that would have been difficult to defeat, dragons or no dragons. And it's only begun to be hinted at in 6x09.
So it's no surprise to me that Bryan Cogman (who seemed to have a pretty good grasp on Sansa's character and her true motives) wrote that line into the scene between her and Dany in 8x02. "Tell me, who manipulated whom?" This line not only confirms that Dany knew that Jon was manipulating her but she is actually using Sansa's very tactic that she used with Jon in 6x04 to get him to listen, that Jon has been using with Dany herself and Dany has been using with him (once she learned it from Jon; she hugs Jorah at their reunion in 7x05 but later on in the episode puts her hands in his when saying goodbye to him; grabbing Jon's hand in 8x04 while "begging" him):
Tumblr media
And Sansa knows what's happening, what Dany is trying to accomplish here. Which is exactly why once Dany pulls her hand away, Sansa waits until Dany is focused on the Maester and then pulls her hands away, sitting upright. And in this moment, Sansa is currently Lady of Winterfell, which is one notch under Warden of the North (but the same positions Cat and Ned were in until Ned became Hand), but before Dany showed up she was Regent (in Jon's absence, even after he bent the knee, she still ran things until he and Dany arrived). Not only is it all connected, but this confirms that Dany knows she's being manipulated by Jon but she loves him (and wants to dominate him/the North), and she is very familiar with manipulation herself and utilizes it often.
And she has quite a bit before this moment, from the Unsullied and slaves in Mereen to Missandei to Tyrion to Jorah to Jon. And later on, she even manipulates Grey Worm (in 8x05). Sorry, I got kind of carried away here lol but I mean to say I completely agree with your point!
And absolutely, completely agreed! Dany never trusted Jon, not completely. I think she started to because she expected him to fall in line with the rest. I think her guard even started to come down slightly after she has that conversation with Tyrion where the latter suggests Jon is in love with her. Some might think she softened to him because she didn't want him to leave, and then tries flirting with him, but that's not the case. It's only after Tyrion says this and we see her go to rescue Jon and Co and she sees Jon's wound, that we see her then soften towards him. So I think you're 100% right, she knew Jon wasn't completely in love with her and she never fully trusted him, which is why she was always willing to believe the worst about Jon, like when we see her go from 0 to 60 in 8x05 when Tyrion talks about Varys. She's not willing to dismiss the notion that Jon has betrayed her. So, yes, Anon, brilliant!!!
2) Exactly!!! I don't think she had a specific point in time picked out or the execution planned out to the nth degree, but she absolutely was on her way there. It was continuously escalating, even to the point where other people in the show saw it and would warn him. That is why I will never understand why some still buy the PR bs that the show espoused for the last season, and that some Dany stans/Jonerys shippers still think that had "bad writing" not come into play, that the Targaryen dynasty would have been restored through J/D. That they believed Jon would have survived if Dany's death never happened, and they would have ruled the 7K happily together. Yet they missed all the major red flags indicating the escalating tension between the two and how it was about to be Dance of the Dragons all over again. Hopefully, now if they're watching HotD and they're watching this same tension build and escalate in that show between those two factions of Targaryens, they get it a bit more. Probably not, but I'm still hopeful. ;-)
3) This! Agreed, I think she hasn't truly conquered Jon and she knows that, which is why she keeps trying. And it's exactly why she continues to try to drive a wedge between him and Sansa. Sansa is a threat not only because of what she represents for Dany (Dany as a ruler/conqueror I mean) but also because of what she represents for Jon. Which I'm willing to bet is why they have the whole parallel of Tyrion and Jaime for Dany: 7x04: "Your family you mean. Perhaps you don't want to hurt them after all", 8x02: "Perhaps he trusts his little brother to defend him, right up to the moment he slits my throat", 8x04: after she hears Jon being complimented by Tormund, she then focuses on Tyrion laughing with Jaime (and then sees Jon's back to her again while Tormund continues his praises & Jon is surrounded by people), 8x04: seeing that Cersei will not kill him (not that this has to do with Jaime per se but goes back to that whole Dany can't come between the family thing), 8x05: "Your brother was stopped trying to get past our lines. It seems he hasn't abandoned your sister after all. The next time you fail me will be the last time you fail me", and 8x06: "You freed your brother. You committed treason." I mean, it's all right there. Jon and Tyrion had already been two sides of a coin so to speak when it came to Dany and their love for her. But now they're also running a contrasted parallel (is that a word?) alongside each other when it came to their loyalty and devotion when it came to her and her response to it. I dare say I think Tyrion and Jon frustrated her more at times than Cersei and Sansa themselves. Which then goes back to that weird parallel the two guys have. It also makes me think this is part of the reason why Jorah was no longer around (besides contributing to the endgame for Dany). So my whole long point (sorry, I'm talking too much today lol) is I definitely agree with you. I think Jon was more of a problem for her than Sansa was, in her mind, because of what Sansa represented for Jon.
4) Yes!!!! I think he chose to do that because he felt it was the right thing to do but also so Sansa and Arya would know the truth, for so many reasons. I think he absolutely wanted to end the intimacy between them and like you said, Dany was then unable to reassert the power dynamic between them, and that frustrated her beyond measure. Which is definitely why she reacts the way she does in that 8x04 bedroom scene when he moves away, and then brings up how he was looked at by everyone. I think he was more disgusted with who she was than by the family connection. That's the thing I think a lot of Jonsa antis/Jonerys stans don't get: it's on record that family marriages did sometimes take place in the history of the North. I believe (and I can't remember the names) that there was even an uncle who married his niece at one point. In today's society, yes, gross. But back in the medieval days, this was more easily accepted and par for the course. As it was that two different houses would marry/unite for a political alliance (like Rhaegar with Elia). So while the type of incest between Jaime and Cersei was looked down upon in Westeros post-Targaryen era, some form of incest has always been around Westeros pre-conquering and post-conquering. Cousin-cousin marriages for example were not unheard of. So, I'm not saying that Jon was completely comfortable with sleeping with his aunt, but it's not that he never heard of it, especially with the Targaryen history. And if she conquered KL again, there was no way that the Targaryen incestry wouldn't be re-established at some point.
I agree, I think he's very turned off by who she is. That's also another thing the Jonerys stans don't get, this romance with a character like Dany's goes against Jon's very character. Especially, when you compare Dany to Ygritte for his romantic history. Ygritte was literally fighting against what Dany represented; she never wanted to bend the knee to any ruler/faction. So how could Jon fall for someone like Ygritte whom he clearly loved, but then fall again for the very person that was her antithesis? It makes no sense. How would that be character development for Jon at all? No sense. So I think you're right in that he was looking to end the physical intimacy between them, but I also think he was trying to do it smartly and not outright reject her and draw her ire. Which is why I think the 8x04 bedroom scene starts to happen until Jon pulls away, and then in the 8x05 fireplace scene, it's clearly in the context of fear which is exactly what Dany sees herself. And based on what you mentioned, then that would explain Jon's little half-smile on the beach when Varys approaches him in 8x05, not just exasperation or 'typical Sansa'. As a matter of fact, I don't think Jon was angry that Sansa told his secret, not until he had to kill Dany to protect her. I think he figured 'typical' aka that familiar affectionate exasperation which then turned into fear once he saw what happened to Varys and heard Dany's threat towards Sansa, then anger when Tyrion (and Arya) basically tell him that Sansa won't have a chance if Dany survives. And I don't think he didn't want to kill her because he loved her, I think he didn't want to because she was family to him in a way and he never wanted to kill a woman (which we saw happen twice, with Ygritte [before he fell for her] and then Melisandre [someone he didn't love]).
So yes, I agree, I think he was hoping to end the physical relationship between them and transition it into a family bond instead, just like you said. I think this is especially reaffirmed when Jon points out to Tyrion that the latter has been counseling her in that 8x06 jail cell scene. To me, that sounded extremely protective but in a familial way. I never got romantic vibes from it. So I completely agree!!!
5) Awww thank you!!! 🤗 That is interesting. I have heard that about the books, that Jon was going to rescue the Gray Lady I think it was, that he thought Arya was captured by Ramsay but it's actually Jeyne Poole, I think? To be fair, I haven't gotten to that point in the books, I should though. (I really need to set aside some time to finish them) I didn't realize that was why he was murdered, though. How horrible! I mean, yeah okay, it's horrible any way you look at it, but with the Wildling thing in the show, I kind of got it in a way. But because he went to go save his sister? Yikes. That would have been interesting to see play out on screen, though. Yes, yes, yes!!!! Always for the Starks!!!! ;-)
About Jonsa, that's an interesting take. I do think part of the reason the Jonerys romance happened is half what you mentioned, to keep Dany's dark turn hidden (and subvert expectations, D&D's catchphrase), but also part because the "dance of dragons" had to happen (in place of the I think Aegon story line in the books, I think I read something about Aegon somewhere, don't quote me on this though) and Dany and Jon were two sides of the same coin in the show. Jon and Sansa are, too, but in a different way if that makes sense. Their sides complement one another, whereas Dany's and Jon's did not.
I also think that they whittled it down to this (meaning the way it all unfolded in the end of the show) because of that coin, meaning Jon was going to be the hero and Dany was going to be the final boss. But of course they were going to reach those destinations in a very grey way, just like GRRM made his characters to be.
And like you said, they couldn't confirm that Jon was in love with someone else because it would have disputed the whole Jonerys romance thing, which then would have led to "why are they doing this then?" which would have eventually led to possibly revealing too much too soon. While we know that the hints were always there since season 1 that Dany would turn dark, the GA didn't pay attention and no one saw the KL massacre coming. Well, not that particular scenario I should say, since we knew there was always going to be a choice that she made that she wouldn't be able to come back from. And I think that was what they mostly wanted to keep hidden as well, what she does to KL and the massacre of one million innocent people, including burning alive children. So, I absolutely agree with you about them needing Jonsa to be implied but not explicitly confirmed. I think it also helped (in D&D's minds) to keep the decision Jon would have to make in the dark as well. Again, we all saw the buildup and the writing on the wall, but I think for the GA, the show purposely kept it as ambiguous as possible until the end.
I think it's also very telling (and reiterates your point) that one scene from the documentary, where Bryan reads the part where Jon kills Dany and we see Kit's reaction: "She kisses him...it's the perfect kiss...she looks up at the man she loves..." Never once do we hear (even though the show was over at this point & HBO purposely didn't air it until after it was over so as not to spoil anything) about Jon kissing her, Jon looking down at the woman he loves. And if Jonerys was full-on and not one-sided, then why not show us that part? Why did D&D emphasize only Dany's POV in those lines?
Why...
Tumblr media
Why not show us the forehead touch? Why pull back on the frame for this one shot?
Which is exactly what they did with the 7x06 scene where Jon allegedly starts to have feelings for her?
Tumblr media
We know why. ;-) So yes, Anon, I absolutely agree with you that they couldn't let Jonsa be explicit which is why I think they worked to confirm it in several other ways that would show again during rewatch after the things they worked to keep hidden had been revealed (minus Jon's big reveal aka pol!Jon since they changed that in the eleventh hour, I'm thinking it was most likely a mixture of Emilia and HBO that was the catalyst for this last minute change).
Oh and not to mention that had Jon killed Dany if they made Jonsa explicit, they would chalk that decision up to him choosing one romance over the other, when it wasn't just about that. That decision held way more importance to Jon's arc and Sansa's arc separately and together as characters than it did romantically. The romance would have just been the icing on the top. But had they made it solely about which woman he chose, it would have negated many things for Jon and Sansa themselves, I think.
I'm so sorry, Anon. I got so wordy and rambled a bit here lol, and I do apologize for my delay in responding to you. Thank you so much for the asks!!! I love discussing GoT and especially this area, so thank you! I hope you have a wonderful week!!! <3

Costume Meta 7x05
Hello, Hey, how we all doing??
Ready for another super long meta post??
There is so much to talk about this week - admittedly mostly Buck and Eddie related, but there is also plenty going on for Hen and Karen as well.
No Bobby this week as we only see him in uniform, and only the one costume for Athena as well. I also want to say that I am not doing any of the costumes from the Madney wedding that we saw at the end of the epsiode - I want to give them the space they deserve and I will probably write a separate pre episode meta for those costumes specifically! All I will say is Maddie looks stunning, Buck in white - hello! and Eddie in a just a collar making him look like a pink priest - hilarious!
The rest is under the cut as always 😎
Let's start with some of the guest characters.
Alien Hand syndrome man continues to prove the check means bad things theme, which makes me happier than you can ever know!!
Then we have Deidra in her very bright pink coat. If you read my promo meta for this episode you will have read a fairly sizeable section at the end on my thinking about the use of pink in this season (going to make a separate post during this hiatus so its all in one place). All of the times we see it in this episode, play into (and I guess prove) my thinking. Deidra is acting with good intentions and while I don't think she's naive or innocent in the strictest sense of the word, she is perhaps continually being naive in thinking that not revealing Mara's past is the right way to go (don't come at me about child protection etc I am fully aware of what the real world laws state, but this story arc really highlights the fact that in trying to protect children who are at risk and in the system, they can also cause ongoing harm if things are not taken on a case by case basis - its a whole other essay that I am not getting into here).
Tumblr media
Then we have Mara herself who is never without pink - namely her pink blanket. The pink plays into the theme of innocence especially with Mara and while she may not be innocent of the act of maiming Denny, her innocence goes much deeper. Its meant as a very clear signpost of the innocence of childhood - that pink blanket and her clinging onto it is a symbol of her clinging onto her childhood, despite the fact that she has gone through a terrible loss and trauma. she is still a child and the show is clearly going to play into the idea that as she settles into the Wilson home and is able to work through the trauma, her need to cling onto her childhood in this way will diminish and we'll see her slowly become less attached to the blanket. We already have signs of progress with the colour journey her tops have been on - lavender, pink and then the turquoise one at the end. Lavender is also a colour associated with childishness or lethargy, pink the colour of innocence, and childhood. While turquoise is a colour of calmness and clarity. its signalling HenRen's breakthrough with Mara and that she's growing and beginning to feel secure.
Tumblr media
Hen and Karen
Hen and Karen go on a real colour journey this week - I'm doing them together (along with Denny) because they very much work in tandem clothing wise (and also because I was running out of pictures again - whats new there!)
So first up we have Karen in this beautiful dip dye ombre dress in purple, pink and mauve. it also has this drip staining pattern which has deliberately been created during the dying process. The lavender at the top of the dress is representative of hope and serenity, this is Karen in a great place - about to expand her family and fulfil a dream. The pink as I've said is all about innocence and naivety - more innocence in this case - both the new baby being innocent and Hen and Karens innocent hopes for their future. The dark mauve at the bottom of the skirt - eating into the pink is such a choice - gathering storm clouds, foreshadowing the turmoil about to come - taking away the innocent hope. mauve can be standoffish and withdrawn, and in this context those are great descriptors for Mara and her struggles that Hen and Karen will need to help her work through.
Tumblr media
Hen's in cyan blue trousers - which is a colour associated with clarity and balance. whilst the cream, black and blue jacket with stars on is the beginning point for a theme that runs through the Wilsons arc this week - black is a power colour, associated with many things, but for Hen and Karen in this arc it is very much about protection and strength. Here for hen it is mostly about protection - protecting this new baby they are about to take in. The cream is warmth and tranquility.
Tumblr media
Hen is wearing check - foreshadowing the upcoming struggles with Mara. Karens bronze and black Jacquard trousers are a symbol of strength - bronze as a colour means strength and support, it's also a symbol of faithfulness. It's telling us that Karen will take the lead on supporting Mara and being strong for her.
We see a lot of white on Karen in this episode, white, like pink is a colour of innocence, but it is more associated with purity and balance. It is also a colour of neutral refelction. By this I mean that it amplifies other colours by providing a neutral background - allowing other colours to shine. I find this a really interesting thing when connected with Karen - it amplifies her strength and supportive nature when the Wilsons meet Mara.
Tumblr media
Hen adn Karen in bed are in dusty versions of blue and pink - Karen innocently tries to touch Mara and that is when the screaming starts. Putting Hen in blue is about relaying her trustworthiness and sets her up as a soothing and calming presence for Mara - hence the sleeping on the floor of her room!
Tumblr media
At the hospital, We see Denny in red - he was wearing it when Mara woke the house up and its an indicator of what is about to befall them (in the same way Bobbys red in the cruise ship disaster adn Athenas red in relation to Harry, or Bucks back in s5 when Eddie broke down).
We again have Karen in white amplifying the other colour she is wearing, which in this instance is this buff/brown oversized sleeveless coat in teddy fleece. The brown is stability, dependability and responsibility - playing into the fact this episode really highlights Karen's position in the family as this stable rock which Hen and Denny lean on when they need support. Karen's unswerving and solid personality is once more being shown off. Its really a key thing for them to show as it feels like a set up for Mara and how she is going to bond and rely on Karen and that dependability as she unpacks her trauma.
Tumblr media
The orange jumper is a really interesting choice. I do love the loose threads on the design of it - paying into the idea that Hen and Karen are at a loose end and unsure what to do going forward. But, the orange itself is generally an open minded colour, its energetic and its also a colour of transformation. These are all things we know are true of Hen and Karen and it hints at the fact that they will fin a way forward. Once again we have Karen in white amplifying Hen's orange and the energy and idea of transformation the colour brings.
Tumblr media
Denim jacket and white tee. I love the distressed nature of this denim jacket and the way it plays into both scenes we see it in - playing into the distress Hen feels over finding out what Mara has gone through and how it explains why she has become non verbal and incredibly protective over her pink blanket.
Again the white of amplification and purity. Hen has pure intentions and the white amplifies Karens black when they are at dispatch listening to the 911 call.
We also have the Karen necklace back - once more showing this ism't about Hen - its about Karen and their family.
Tumblr media
Black on Karen for this scene is such a choice. Black is a power colour, it means strength and protection. Here it is showing Karens determination, as she gains understanding, to protect Mara and support her through her trauma - it is representative of Karen choosing to use the power she has been given through gaining information. The gold highlights hint at success.
Tumblr media
I love these lavender pyjamas on Karen - lavender is a soothing and sleep inducing colour (along with its scent which is possibly where the association came from for the colour) along with a Japanese print of mountains and trees, which plays into the idea of serenity and peacefulness.
Hen in contrast is wearing fairly bright and bold black and green. The green is all about that growth and learning once more, the growth of Hen and Karen, learning more about the issues Mara faces and seeking a solution, but also the growth of their family. The black is a reflection of power - much in the same way Karen wearing black when they heard the 911 call Mara made, here it is Hen, representing the protection that Hen and Karen are offering Mara.
Tumblr media
Athena in green - again with the mesh open weave knit - this may be a theme for her this season - potentially something to do with feeling caged or caging someone/something - especially children as both scenes we've seen it so far have been to do with young people and the law in some respect - ending up in the system - Harry through is crime and Mara through her parents death.
Tumblr media
Chim
This dark bottle green with a fawn brown (what I think is a polo) shirt underneath is Chimneys only non uniform costume this week . This kind of dark green, is as always a signal of growth, but its also a colour of harmony, and right now - everything in Chim's world is harmonious.
Tumblr media
Maddie
I don't thinkI've said it yet, but I am so happy to have Alayna back dressing Jennifer - I feel like we're really back on track with Maddie's costuming after last season where they somehow managed to make Maddie look terrible. The costuming overall last year was fine - not as good as Alayna's work, but it was for the most part good - except for Maddie where it was all over the place!
Anyway - Maddie in black here is very much about focussing the attention on Hen and Karen - like with CHimney's muted green, in tandem they are making the viewers eye focus on Hen and Karen - especially Karen - who is the brightest in the room.
Tumblr media
Maddie wearing this sage green colour when Buck comes out to her is sheer perfection from my perspective - we, once more have the green of growth and renewal, the green of learning - Maddie learning more about her brother - this new thing that he is realising about himself and choosing to share with her (even if inadvertently). But this green is also sage green - sage as in the play on sage advice - which we see Maddie give him. Buck needs that good advice - he needs to hear that its ok, that he can take the time to figure himself out and that its ok that he's only just uncovered this aspect of himself and that it doesn't invalidate him being an ally up to this point!
Tumblr media
Ok not going to lie - I got a little carried away from here on out - so sorry in advance for the rambling mess you're about to read!
Marisol
I'm doing Marisol in a weird order - because I wanted to talk about her date night outfit in tandem with Eddies - because its relevant. So we start of with virgin Mary Marisol! Honestly this outfit is just perfection from the costume department - they saw the brief and went to town and I love it. Its so good to see what they can do when they get to play!
One of the things I really love about this costume is the blue that they chose. Because that blue - that is Bucks blue! the virgin Mary blue is usually a much brighter royal blue. It really helps to place Marisol in parallel to Buck and we get the play on t he fact that Eddie seeing Marisol in this way changes everything for him, whilst later on, whilst Buck is in the same blue, he reassures him that nothing will change between them.
Tumblr media
Look, I'm not going to lie, when I saw Marisol in blue and yellow for this scene I laughed because Blue and yellow (as I've gone on a million times about) means queer coding so to blatantly put Marisol in it - in a washed out form, and very much connecting her to Catholicism - genius move. It marks her out as a roadblock, but also puts her into the role of beard (unknowingly on her part) because Eddie is still in the midst of his repression, even if it is beginning to unravel now.
The black top with spaghetti straps is clearly a theme they're going with on Marisol, as are the ditsy prints. The yellow high waisted trousers are interesting because of the specific shade of yellow. Yes the whole communication theme still applies here -and we see it in action, but this shade of yellow is sallow and sickly (one of the reasons its called sickly yellow is because its the colour of a lot of medications!!) - this relationship and its restart are ill and that automatically means its going to struggle to survive.
It plays into the more negative meanings around the colour - uncertainty and idleness and cowardice. For me the cowardice aspect is an interesting one in relation to Eddie - he has behaved cowardly up to this point - hiding out and not having the conversations that need to be had, and even in this scene it is Marisol who takes the lead.
It's really giving us an indication of things Eddie needs to work on in regards to himself - and once more it comes down to communication. Communication has always been Eddies major flaw - that he isn't good at it, unless really really pushed into it - essentially under duress. The other thing with communication is that it plays really well into the catholic guilt aspect - this idea that growing up catholic has taught him to repress part of who he is - to go along with what is expected of him, but that it also taught him not to ask for what he needs, to not communicate. We see it in this episode with his inability to say no to Marisol (the whole hiding out at Bucks so he doesn't have to have sex speaks volumes) even down to suggesting there's a third type of guy - who just needs a minute. Because, while that might be true to a certain extent, the fact that he says this off the back of her expressing her distress and upset about how all guys are one of two things, speaks volumes - its not him saying this because that's how he actually feels, its partly him saying it because he is pushed into a position where he doesn't want to be the bad guy. its really not a good place to be restarting a relationship from.
We also have the ditsy print of doom in play again - like I've said before, ditsy print on Eddies girlfriends - never a good sign - its really playing into this idea of Eddie jumping in headfirst with gay abandon (pun intended) and then regretting his life choices. Shannon wore ditsy print a fair amount - especially in the I think I'm pregnant' and 'we should get a divorce' scenes. Ana wore ditsy print A LOT - she was wearing it when Eddie had his panic attack in the shop and at other key moments that marked the death knell for their relationship. And so this appearance of ditsy print here marks the same - the relationship is not long for this world
Tumblr media
OK date night Marisol. The way this outfit played out more or less as I expected, She was very much an 'innocent' bystander in this scene (whilst also creating one corner of a triangle with Buck and Eddie) , and the ditsy print very much played into this. Like I said in my promo meta, both Shannon and Ana were costumed in ditsy print as well as in lots of pink!!!
The other aspect of this outfit that is making me laugh is the fact that the skirt is giving me 1980's/early 1990's teen vibes (not to out myself as old but trust me I had some just like this back then and I wouldn't be caught dead in it now as a grown woman!!) and the baby pink handbag looks like something an 8 year old would have to play dress up with - its all very childish and immature - naive one could say, and while it didn't play out quite how I was expecting, her being a novice nun, sure explains a lot of why she comes over as pretty immature.
The other aspect of this childish style we're seeing on her plays into Eddies narrative of looking for magic and trying to recreate what he had with Shannon. He's attracted to Marisol because she is immature and childish - it reminds him of what he had with Shannon when he was young, and when you're trying to recapture that, its easy to fall into the trap of thinking someone behaving in a naive manner is you finding what you'd been looking for. Eddies journey, along side his catholic guilt, is about learning that he cannot recapture or recreate that magic he had when he was young - that the love of youth - in all its innocence is not something that is sustainable or actually what he wants in the present.
Then we have Eddie in white. I spoke in the promo meta about how the white set him and Marisol as opposites and that remains true - very true on more than one level. What I especially love about it and something I could not have predicted is how it plays into the novice nun aspect of their story this episode - truly this show is a comedy! Because nuns wear black and white this is an obvious play on that, but it is also a play on the fact that Marisol is still a practicing catholic, whilst Eddie is very much not. The other aspect of this white is that of Eddies two non uniform costumes, it is the first one and we get this black and white play on religion - the black and white of nuns and priests - the black and white of being religious or not. Eddie never questions if he wants to become a practicing catholic again - he is lapsed and that is how he intends to stay.
Tumblr media
Eddie in uniform, with his green trainers, blue towel and water bottle. the blue towel and bottle play into the buck and Eddie blue green theming we see with them. But what is interesting is though is that Eddie is fulfilling all the colour theming on his own - he is both blue and green - to me this is about Eddies own struggles within himself as well as foreshadowing the Eddie Marisol break up down the line (green shoes suggest a road needs to be to walked before we get there) - it hints at Eddies internal struggles and implies that its will ultimately end in a break up a bit further down the line.
I also think it's only when in Uniform that Eddie can admit to his catholic guilt. Because we all know when Eddie is struggling with some form of emotional turmoil, he wears a black singlet - and he could've been wearing the same here, it would've been totally fitting with the situation - he is going through something emotionally and struggling with it.
But he's in his uniform. Part of it is to have him on a different level to Buck - they are both struggling with something in this scene. When we have previously had Buck and Eddie scenes like this one at work, the one dressed in uniform, tends to be the one offering advice to the one not in uniform. That isn't the case here. Part of it comes back to Buck not actually needing advice, but needing to reveal something about himself - to confess. Eddie is the one who needs advice.
This is a flipping of the traditional narrative for these scenes and is proof that even though Eddie might later tell Buck that nothing is going to change between them, that it has in fact already changed, it is just that neither of them are fully cognisant of that change at this moment in time. It is a key indicator to use the audience that this has happened before but that things are not going to play out the same way this time.
Put it this way - Eddie has form for doing something extreme with his relationships with women in the aftermath of Buck doing something dumb - its one of the manifestations of his repression. This time its asking Marisol to move in with him in the immediate aftermath of Buck going full green monster over Tommy.
Last time it was in the aftermath of Buck begins and then doubling down with Ana after the shooting when Buck had hooked up with Taylor and before that in the aftermath of Shannon's death and Buck suing the department he went and joined a fight club - but he has form. Its completely in character for him to pull this sort of a move. I know he says he's going with his gut but I argue he is in fact ignoring his gut - or at the very least confused about what his gut is telling him, because that would mean actually looking at why his gut reaction to Buck doing something dumb makes him do something dumb in turn connected to these women in his life.
Tumblr media
Eddie in black - this is the same shirt as the white one - just the reverse colour - which is important. This shirt has several layered meanings to it. its about the reversal of what Eddie wants - from him being bubbly and excited about Marisol moving in, to the dread of her having moved in and wanting her to move out - his feelings go from white to black - light to dark - happy to unhappy and it all sums up the relaity of that relationship - while it was new and unserious, it was fun and light, when things got real - it becomes dark and oppressive.
I'll go into more detail about this shirt when I get to Bucks costume for this scene - because they are connected!
The other thing about this outfit is that the green trousers have been replaced with jeans. Now I see a couple of reasons for the wardrobe department doing this. Firstly is that it plays into the 'nothings is going to change between us' of it all. Its a visual indicator that in fact things have changed (along with Buck wearing a brighter shirt than we normally get in these buddie heart to hearts that take place in Bucks loft but more on that later) the Buck being bi and going on a date with Tommy of it all aside, this is the first time we've actively seen Eddie hiding out at Bucks to avoid his girlfriend - this was a barrier that had existed between them previously that has now been broken down. Then there is the fact that Eddie does go home to Marisol - and he couldn't be wearing green at that point because she was wearing blue and Eddie in green would've meant break up time - only the Marisol as a plot device arc isn't yet over (it will be soon I promise - all the costume signs are there!) so that couldn't happen.
Tumblr media
Tommy
This dark olive green shirt that is almost brown. The brown undertones hint at the stability he represents while the green is hinting at his military past and once more paralleling him with Eddie. One of the things about green as a colour is that its not only a symbol of growth and renewal, but its also a colour of learning, and in an episode titled 'You don't know me' it feels like all the green is very much about education - learning about other people - and the growth that results from it. It feels especially important here for Tommy and Buck - that is after all what going on a date it all about - learning about one another and seeing if you're compatible.
The other fun thing about this green shirt is though that the green plays into the blue green colour theory when it comes to Buck and Eddie and their partners and the end of relationships. This one before its had chance to begin.
Tumblr media
For Coffee we have a grey Henley and a blue zip front hoodie with a grey striped undertone to it (I am pretty sure this is actually a hoodie we've seen on Chimney but I can't remember when and I don't think it would be the very same one as pretty sure Lou would not be fitting into Kenneths clothes ever, but Chimney has definelty worn the same style!!). Again Henley's are an Eddie thing, so we once more have the parallel with Eddie being drawn.
The interesting thing here is that the grey blue is the same colour combo Buck wore on their first date attempt - the costume department played a lot with flipping colour in this episode, so to have it done here as well is really fun - the fact there is more grey than blue is also interesting. It's a neutral colour, it is seen as a colour of stability, but is also a colour of uncertainty. It really plays into that theme of uncertainty running through the Buck and Tommy arc. The blue hoodie is actually pretty important because we've had one of Buck and Tommy wearing something dark blue in every scene they've had together - usually the one on the back foot. Tommy in this scene is relatively neutral in terms of position for most of this scene - they are equals - but he is put onto the back foot by Buck asking him to be his date to Maddie and Chim's wedding.
Tumblr media
Buck
Where to start with our beloved bi disaster!
I obviously spoke a fair amount about the date night shirt in my promo meta. The navy blue knit bowling shirt with these silver/grey close together pinstripes running down the front playing into the Buck wearing vertical stripes theme we've has running with him for at least the last 2 seasons.
What I said about false starts and this date absolutely played out - in the same way the sperm donation shirt represented a false start on that donation, this shirt also represents a false start on Bucks dating life as a bi man. The white trainers are also carrying on the theme of Bucks Journey towards happiness
What I find most interesting about this outfit though isn't colour theory related. its all about the fit of the clothes. Because these are ill fitting on Buck - not something we see from him very often - in fact I think the only time we see him in anything close to ill fitting to this extent is back in season 1 when he was figuring out who he was and if being a firefighter was the right for him and exploring relationships and what he was trying to find in that arena. The trousers are the most ill fitting of it all, but I'll come to the trousers later on as they are part o a wider Buck costume theme we have going on!
The shirt is a little roomie, but not overly so, it just stands out more because we're so used to his shirts fighting for their life, here this one is baggy and really helps to sell the idea of defeat, but also that h was trying on this new part of himself for size and that it doesn't quite fit. It's the only time this episode we see his clothes not fit him in this way and its a really small but expressive part of costuming that I love to see.
Tumblr media
Then we have this blue broadcloth jacket over a white tee and with these plum/brown coloured trousers - they're a bit blink and you'll miss them so its hard to be sure what type of trouser they are, but I think they are essentially smart joggers - jersey material but trousers!
We all know that Buck in white means trouble, I'm putting him outing himself to his sister as the bad thing - along with the fact that the date didn't work out.
I'm really fascinated by the fact that we really seem to be leaning into navy blue and Buck being bi. Navy has always been a colour we've seen a lot of on Buck in general, but there is something about the fact we've seen him (or Tommy) wearing it in every single scene that is about his bisexuality. I'm talking from the kiss scene onwards, not anything before that as Buck wasn't aware of his bisexuality before the kiss. I can't wait to see if it continues!
Tumblr media
The green shirt jacket is an interesting one. it obviously helps to play into the buck and Eddie blue green theory, but it does in a smaller way play into the blue green theming we see around Buck and Eddie and their relationships - specifically around issues arising. Both Buck and Eddie wear green when they break up with their significant others and while there is no break up here, there is a break of sorts. This was Buck about to try and tell his Best friend that he was actually out on a date with Tommy and that he's bi
symbol of growth - Buck went in with a goal - to tell Eddie he was on a date with Tommy, but changed tack when he saw Eddie needed to go through something - this is Buck growing as a person - not making something about him.
The other thing about this outfit is that its basically the same as the one Eddie wore at the airfield (even down to the badding of the trousers) - just in reverse - Eddie black trousers, black jacket, green top, and here Buck is black trousers, black top and green jacket - I find this fascinating as a metaphor for where the two of them are on their respective journeys.
Buck is now bi and out (he's told his sister) and has been on a date with a guy (regardless how successful it was - he cannot put it back into the box) - his growth is externalised and therefore expressed through the wearing of a green jacket. We get a lot of storytelling through the various Jackets Buck wears (we've seen him in over 35 at this point!)
While Eddie - who we could say was being taken on a date by Tommy - even if he didn't know it (because who flies someone to Vegas to a sold out fight if its not a date??) wearing a much brighter green that we've seen on him before now (pretty much all of his greens are more army green with a couple of exceptions - much darker greens akin to Bucks jacket in the below picture) - still in the army green wheelhouse, but much bolder. Eddie's queer status is still very much internalised - hence it being underneath the black jacket.
Tumblr media
Buck coming out to Eddie from a costume perspective was a glorious parallel that I have already mentioned in the promo meta (I've run out of pictures so you'll have to go watch the scene yourself if you want to see what I mean). Its actually a bit deeper that I appreciated in that promo meta, but that is in part because at the time of writing the meta I wasn't 100% sure it was a coming out scene and I didn't get to see the way it was shot and how that also played into the paralleling.
Costume wise - I already spoke above about Eddies black shirt and how it is reversing him in the episode. But what I didn't mention is that fact that it parallels in colour terms, what he was wearing when Buck informed the firefam that Connor and Kameron were pregnant. Eddie wore a black marl henley - black with flecks of dark grey running through it, and Buck here is wearing a slightly darker blue version of the same top he wore in that same scene. He is standing in the same place at the counter of his kitchen, or sitting very close to the same position and we get similar camera angles. As a whole the parallel is very loud - Buck was happy and proud of something he had done and wanted to share it with his friends - wanted their approval. He was feeling good about himself and confident in his decision.
The biggest thing about the blue - this shade specifically is the way it play into the blue theme we saw last season with Buck - the theme that started in the 5x18 finale at Hen and Karens vow renewal, when he was free of Taylor and moving forward and essentially restarting his search for happiness. We saw it weave a thread through the entirety of season 6, being worn at key moments that played into that theme - after Lev died, at various points in the sperm donation arc, and a key points in the aftermath of his death and rebirth.
The successfully helping create life aspect of this is so interesting. It on a low key level plays into the you don’t find it you make it manifesto that’s been at the heart of bucks arc since s2. the whole year if yes was supposed to be about this very thing - about Buck creating the life he wants for himself  - the sperm donation isn’t about the baby it’s about Buck and about him figuring out what hes missing (which comes back to not only Thomas and Mitchell, but also Lev).
The other thing that ties into this theme is that Eddie isn't really changing but Buck is. Whenever we have a scene at the loft between Buck and Eddie Bucks costume and colour varies, but Eddies stays more or less the same. Bucks colour Palette for these scenes goes - dark grey in the you want to go for the title scene, then we have the grey blue on the balcony and now this much lighter blue. This is highlighting Bucks progression while Eddie who remains in his black shirt and that progression - while Eddie essentially remains steadfast - is key - it’s showing us that while buck is still doing dumb things, he is learning - he is listening to whatever Eddie is telling him - that he’s accepting Eddie’s absolution of his sins more and more - growing and understanding.
It’s building on his long running arc - his fear of being left behind, of not being important enough for people to stick around for - and showing us he’s increasingly understanding that that fear is unfounded - that he’s found his personal- the one who will stay and who is steadfast in that. That’s why we see Eddie unchanging in his black shirt green cargos while buck gets lighter - more unburdened by that fear.
Before you think all is lost on the Eddie front though, we are seeing change - the army green trousers are gone and have been replaced with jeans - perhaps, in the same way Bucks growth into his bisexuality began with his beginning to wear jeans again, Eddies own growth into his own queer identity also begins with jeans - moving him away from Eddie the soldier - fighting for others - being a rock for others and now into a position where he can do his own growing.
Tumblr media
In the sperm donation arc, Buck was finally able to donate and was wearing that super pale mint green polo. we don't see the same with the outcome here at this point in the story (although the beige/mint green jacket from the bachelor party is making me👀👀👀 at this moment in time!) - we get this cream open weave linen shirt with black and terracotta and golden brown vertical stripes.
I love that they went with a shirt that has such an open weave - playing into the whole concept of Buck being open and embracing this newly revealed part of him that he's discovered. But what I love most about this shirt is the way it ties back into the Buck learning to accept himself and find his happiness.
Tumblr media
Because this shirt is so similar to the one from 6x01 - when he decides he doesn't need a new couch, what he needs is to be ok on his own and with himself.
Tumblr media
lets talk Buck and his trousers because the trousers are a whole thing this season and I am truly in love with the long game the wardrobe department have been playing on this one. They know that we have all been out here raising eyebrows at Bucks trousers for the past few seasons as they've gotten shorter and shorter and ill fitting. I know I've made comments in previous costume metas about the fact they must be doing something intentional with them being so short in the leg - that them doing this is giving the appearance of a child who is still in short trousers and isn't fully grown - hasn't moved on to wearing full length trousers yet.
Well it would seem I was right and thats exactly what they were doing, putting him in short trousers to show that he wasn't his fully formed self - that he was growing and learning and figuring things out. because - I've gone back through my spreadsheet and checked his trousers out for all of his scenes and there are only a handful where he has trousers on that are well fitted and the correct length. One of them is at the start of season 6 - at the end of the episode where he moves his armchair instead of getting a new couch - the one time in season 6 we see him most at peace with himself
I remarked in the 7x04 meta that we only saw Buck in his too short trousers in the one scene at the airfield, and from then on, he was was in jeans. Now the jeans are a mimicking thing - Buck hasn't worn stone wash jeans since Eddie appeared on the scene back at the start of season 2, so for him to start wearing them again as soon as he becomes jealous of Eddie and Tommy - and Tommy is wearing jeans - was pretty telling in its own right. It's Buck trying to get Eddies attention (not Tommys - Eddies) because, we do not see Eddie in jeans in 7x04 - but we do see Tommy in them - and in Bucks head he is loosing Eddies attention to a guy wearing stone wash jeans - so if he wears stonewash jeans then maybe he'll get Eddies attention back.
That obviously didn't work out how Buck thought it would, but it did lead to him figuring a new part of himself out.
We can see how his trousers are all now sitting at the correct length, I grabbed this still of the black ones, and you can see in the full length still from the date those are as well (even if they're too big more generally) but the others are all sitting at the correct length as well.
Tumblr media
We also see the jeans back for his scene with Tommy - I truly am fascinated by the choice to put him back in stonewash jeans aafter so long as a theming choice for his bisexuality, I really am enjoying this more relaxed looking Buck from a costuming perspective - the journey we've been on with his costumes is great - the increasingly formal style thats just a little too small and tight we've seen over the seasons now slowly relaxing once more into something much more comfortable and well fitted - showing just how far he has truly come.
Tumblr media
And thats me out for another week! Sorry it turned into another epic - it would seem `i cant stop myself! Not sure if this has come out longer than last weeks, I think it might've, but I can't be bothered to check! Thank you as always for reading this monster and I hope you enjoyed this deep dive into the costumes for 7x05. I'm off now to hyperfixate on Bucks bathroom door and get myself though this mini hiatus!

He has a... cleft?
"With Tommy... he's so confident, he's interesting, he has a CLEFT"
What? Buck, what? Do you mean CAR LIFT??? I rewatched and it does not sound like car lift. Does he like Tommy's cleft chin??? That's so random?
What did you mean Buck???
Someone explain this please because I am losing my mind.

I really do think that Eddie's and Buck's storyline got swapped
Knowing this
Tumblr media
Source
and that there was a whole storyline planned for Buck/Natalia but the actress was not available
It makes so much sense
Cause wtf did Eddie say? He always moves too fast?
Eddie?
The guy who didn't let his wife and mother of his child see their kid again to not make him hope too much
The guy who moved slower than slow with Ana
The guy who's first priority and concern has been Chris
HE moves too fast?
That's literally Buck's thing
And to dive into Eddie's queer arc first would've made a lot of sense
Ever since the shooting there had been the heart eyes and all and no woman
Then the whole "she sees me" thing
Ryan is a great actor
He knows what he's doing
And we've all been thinking that Eddie has been at least peripherally aware of his feelings
So I will take this whole Marisol thing as him absolutely overcompensating
Don't get me wrong
Bi Buck is EVERYTHING and gods I love it
Oliver is fucking INCREDIBLE with this arc
And Buck/Tommy are cute af
But oh my oh my
My heart is bleeding a little cause now we're stuck with that fucking queerphobe on the cast while this beautiful storyline is going on
Yes I think we'll get there
And Eddie's queer arc will be a bit more complicated
But yeah
It just gives me a lot of emotions to know this and to be stuck with that person on the cast
Idk idk
The episode really was something
And all the interviews and all
It's OVERWHELMING
and my emotions are all over the plane

More thoughts on 7x05 Shut Up Dr. Phil. They very much wasted James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter. Rich witches having a petty squabble that almost ends in death to an entire town is an okay enough plot but they could've done it with any actors! This show loves to be on the nose and heavy handed with references and meta bullshit and that's how they're used? I haven't seen Buffy in a while but were there any references even? Not even talk about vampires like come on.

7x05 Savitar Presence Analysis
The classic backstabbing scene of Savitar in season 3 appears again in 7x05.
First of all, let's talk about why 7x05 has that backstabbing scene, because Savitar appears in Barry's illusion (which causes by Psych). And why there's Savitar, is (maybe) because Barry has just mentioned him earlier.
Tumblr media
Seriously Barry has not mentioned Savitar for a long time, even though I keep feeling that season 7 is always a bit related to Savitar in every episode implicitly or explicitly, but this episode is the first time Barry actually says his name, has a hallucinatory rivalry scene, and the name Savitar is lined up with Crisis and Reverse-Flash.
It's kind of easy to understand why both Crisis and Reverse-Flash are mentioned, so I won't go into it here. But why Savitar? It's been almost four years since he was erased by the time paradox—why is he being brought up again at this point?
Barry has fought so many villains as the Flash, not to mention those are sent to Iron Heights every episode, there are Zoom, DeVoe, Cicada…including Eva McCulloch recently—who locked Iris up in the mirror verse for three months, the damage she caused to the city is not even fully repaired by now; this shadow apparently should not be small. But why not choose them? Why specifically Savitar?
This reminds me of Frost and Caitlin. See Barry's surprised expression when he sees them split into two separate individuals at the beginning of 7x05:

Frost and Caitlin get along quite well right now. Caitlin considers Frost to be her sister, and both of them feel that the other is important to them; they both have their own place in the team.
Even if it isn't subjective, I think Barry may have been subconsciously thinking of Savitar at that moment.
Well, we’ve talked about the possibilities of why Savitar appears, then let's go back and talk about the backstabbing scene. This scene still raises a lot of questions, as it is honestly too iconic, almost a perfect replica of 3x22. Even the phrase "You lose, Barry" is recovered by the illusion.
In 3x22, it's Iris (H.R.) who is stabbed, while in 7x05, it's Barry instead. Barry was beaten by Savitar so many times in season 3, dropped, punched, choked, and stabbed on the front, etc., so why would Savitar's choice in the illusion be a backstab? It's almost as if Barry is trying (so hard) to be the replacement.
Take out the back attack alone, Savitar being shot by Iris is also a bullet from the back, and when he tried to sneak up on Barry before getting shot, his movement was also towards Barry's back.
Yet let's take a look at the following comparison pics:
Tumblr media
Savitar treats his victims with almost identical actions. It's Barry's hallucination, a figment of his mind, something he's afraid of. So why does he come up with the backstab? Why would he want to be the replacement? Maybe it's guilt, or maybe it's regret; it appears in the scene, and it should be here for some reason.
But look at the previous victims: Iris was replaced by H.R., lived, being alive and well, and married to Barry; H.R., who had previously died, but after some magical consequences of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, was back in Nash's head along with the rest of the Wells. He was back, albeit briefly, but from the way he acted in 7x01, (at least) I think he was happy.
There's no problem with Iris; there's no problem with H.R. Then why does Barry still regret and feel guilty?
Here's my personal (untrustworthy) hypothesis:
Is there any chance that this guilt, this regret, is for Savitar?
Savitar was also the man who once let the name "Masonville" split out of his mouth, and Barry was the one who said, "We're gonna figure it out. Together."
They were both possibilities for Barry Allen, but they are destined to go their separate ways, to be separated forever.
Almost four years have passed, 32-year-old Barry Allen is subconsciously reminded of his time remnant on an eventful day in Central City.

i just really love the visual symbolism of that ship rising up towards the surface as ahsoka watches on the landing dock—part of her wants to go back up and take back everything, but she knows she made her choice and she’s got to stick with it.
It also parallels how ahsoka rode a ship like that in the wrong jedi arc to go down to the lower levels, but now it’s leaving the lower levels without her.
