Happy Pride 2023!!!! If you know me on discord, you'll likely have already seen these, but I'm proud to introduce genderfluid Warriors!!!

The decision to make Wars genderfluid was something that developed organically, as with everything in this series. The characters tell us how to write them, not the other way around. Wars' pronouns are he/she/they and it's pretty easy to pick one just based on their presentation (in art, we'll get to the writing part eventually). There have already been hints in-text of Wars starting to question their gender, but this is going to be a slow moving process, like their gender fluidity. Don't expect them to figure this out any time soon lmao, the gay thing was already a lot.

To talk about them, we'll be using he primarily, because that's how Wars feels most of the time, but any are acceptable and we'll shift our language according to circumstance!

Warriors (he/she/they but pls use she for this post) and Legend (he/him) belong to @ageless-soul-au!! Pls don't tag any other AUs!!! ✨

Apropos of nothing, except tangentially my watching WotC start exploding after I had finally STOPPED playing d20 systems for a good 3+ years, but..

Now that everyone is suddenly scrambling to try new systems (meaning I’m watching people who have ONLY EVER PLAYED D&D have to play things that aren’t d20 for the first time) I find it funny that, as someone who has also played Shadowrun for a very long time, (2e in to 5e, baby!) in my experience, it’s veteran d&d only players that complain about finding shadowrun difficult to grok, the most.

Ttrpg neophytes actually pick up shadowrun 5e faster than veteran d&d players. Consistently.

(This is 100%!! Not me endorsing SR5e’s rules as good. They are not. But it is a humorous observation lol. Mind, my observation as a long time d&d player and GM, as well, is that most long term “d&d and ONLY d&d” players still don’t grok d&d’s rules, either. )

It had been a long day at work. You're burnt out having to do overtime, your boss had been nagging you all day and all you wanted to do was go back to your apartment with your lovely boyfriend lay down and die.

When you finally clock out for the day you feel the rest of the weight of commuting home start to cave on you. "Only a little longer." You sigh to yourself. Your eyes feel heavy and your body feels like it could give out at any moment.

Finally reaching home you fumble for your keys and unlock the door. The smell of food wafts through your nose as soon as you open the door. "Darling is that you?" You hear Hex call from the kitchen. "Yeah it's me." You responded weakly as you set down your stuff and took off your shoes.

You trek into the kitchen, Hex is a sight to behold. He's in an apron, cooking the most delicious meal you've ever seen. "You've been busy." You smile at him. He sighs at you. "So have you! I mean you must be exhausted darling. I just wanted to help out by making you some food so you wouldn't have to deal with that when you got home." He smiles.

You could cry, and you do. He's just so caring and you had such a long day. You sniffle and sob. Hex shuts off the stove and rushes to your side.

He guides your sobbing form to the sofa and gently strokes your back. Once both of you are sat you immediately crawl into his arms and hiccups out a few more sobs. Hex gently shushes, continuing to rub small circles into your back. "Tough day?" He gently prods. You nod silently. "I've got you, I don't want you to worry about anything else tonight." Hex kisses the top of your head.

After holding you for a while you eventually calm down. "Thank you for being amazing Hex. I genuinely don't know what I'd do without you." He smiles warmly at you. "I don't know what I'd do without you, you're amazing and you do so much. I'm just here to remind you that you're loved and I'm extremely proud of you." You squeeze him tightly. " If you want we can take a little nap before you eat? " he suggested. " I'd like that idea." You say as you cozy up on the couch with him and drift off into a nap.

hey!!! i use Paint Tool SAI 2!

as of the moment (which means i constantly change it) here is my main doodling/sketching/lineart brush:

my coloring brush: any hard edged basic brush will do, you can also use the bucket tool or the lasso tool, it's simply for coloring

my blushing brush: i blend this brush out by switching to transparency (making it an eraser) and lightly tapping the outside of the paint! (sai users, do this by pressing C on your keyboard. lifesaver been using this shortcut for years) it's versatile, i love using it for gradients

marker brush (usually for ecto): i use this brush only when i want to paint ecto (which i don't do often) but you can use this for other purposes too! it's not my favorite, not even good enough for ecto imo, because my sai 1 version is much better i blend things out the EXACT SAME WAY as the blush brush so please keep that in mind!

a basic brush im testing out for shading purposes: it has a little bit of texture and is made for baaasically cel shading but slightly softer and has the tiniest bit of color mixing

blending brush i barely use and don't actually really like that much: i'm still testing out blending brushes that i like because i can't find one that i like that isn't just blurring colors together or making them muddy when mixed together. if anybody has suggestions, PLEASE let me know! anything like a procreate or csp blending brush that can be recreated would be great

and finally, my rendering brush: it's basically a basic hard edged brush that can pick up the smallest bit of color i use it to clean up and add final touches by using the drop picker often and over the entire artwork

ofc, change anything to your preferences. that's how it goes these are just the settings that work for me :) this also goes for the program LOL i know sai is not for everyone (but it's my baby my bestie my 5ever so like this is about ME)

i have an in-depth post about my CSP brushes and how i work with them (and i don't really ever use csp unless it's a big piece so it's not changing anytime soon) if that's what you have or prefer

what i would personally want from another DR game

(note: not all at once, since some of these are Mutually Exclusive in fact ha)

realistically:

preferably not a Killing Game. this sounds like Blasphemy but DR was never "about" Killing Games. i'll accept it if it happens, but i'll be Very Skeptical. there's plenty to say about that universe and its themes without throwing another new 16 into the mix. leave that to the Fangans, as i think only Fans can produce something that feels fully "new" w/r/t Killing Games now

preferably uses mostly characters we already know with some great additions. a la UDG

could be serious or a spinoff. racing game, RPG, rhythm game, fighting game, game where we use the Kumas like Pokemon...

if a spinoff, would prefer it still has something of a Narrative to it where everyone's somewhat in character, even if it's silly. think Usami forcing Kamukura to participate in Dangan Kart and he does because he's Bored or some dumb shit like that. give me that Stupid Content

just...another game with Kodaka's involvement specifically. this is filed under "realistically" because Kodaka has recently stated he would like to do it, and that after v3, he was on break from Danganronpa, not Done With It 5ever. considering he still does Birthday Posts and constantly answers questions about DR, he is clearly quite attached still, but ultimately by his own admission it's up to Spikechun

non-realistically:

End of HPA/adjacent timeline. IF, Everyone Is Here UTDP/Summer Camp etc

as a corollary to the above, would prefer that it is not V3's timeline. and V3 is, in fact, a Separate Timeline/"setting reset" according to Kodaka. it is not a retcon/continuation of previous games. BUT: i think that world would be best explored in novels/manga via the Rantaro series Kodaka wanted to do. BUT: i think if it is explored, it will be in a game

further: would prefer an Everyone Is Here game. it would unite the fandom, from old-time fans to folks who came in mostly thru V3 and stick to it

however, of these personal wish fulfillment settings, i think the most realistic of them is an IF-like timeline, esp if released on the 15th or 20th anniversaries. what better way to Celebrate than with everyone from DR1 being alive

Misty will be debuting in the comics soon! "I just want to see her exploring her freedom and powers. I'm curious to see how she'll change, and if she remains awkward and shy."

There are plans for characters like Alphabittle, Sprout and Phyllis to appear more often, and "they'll all probably show up eventually". (Alphabittle has yet to appear in the comics.)

"I wish Zipp was less suspicious [of Misty]! I'm excited to see them grow as friends."

In her opinion, the wackiest or weirdest MLP crossover would involve "something super dark". "Like, imagine the Dark Knight meeting Fluttershy. But then again, Adam West Batman and Pinkie Pie would be fun… I think Star Wars would be a difficult sell."

Her favorite ponies are Pinkie Pie, Izzy Moonbow, and Pickle Barrel (Natalie Haines's OC, not the pony from Rainbow Roadtrip).

She can't draw, so she doesn't have a favorite G5 pony to draw.

In an artist portfolio shown to IDW, it would technically be sufficient to include storyboards and animatics as "sequential artwork", but she'd "prefer to see actual comic samples if you want to do interior art work".

1. John/June Egbert Amazing protagonist. Refreshing and relatively uncomplicated compared to the rest of the cast (KIND OF LIKE THE BREEZE HURR DURR). In a story like Homestuck, it's well appreciated. Still has enough angst material to satisfy my needs, especially when I'm the one writing. Great visual motifs. Funny dialogue. Haters, say hi to my fists.

The June interpretation can be done well, however I have yet to see anyone who actually cares about her that much beyond shipfuel and silly girl bullshit to actually write out a believable narrative involving her. (more accurately: to my standards grumble grumble) (that should be my next wip actually)

2. Calliope Enjoyable character. During my read, I found her fun and sweet. I use emoticons like ^_^ and ^u^ a lot so I was biased to begin with. Her friendship (or pre-femslash if you swing that way) with Roxy was great to read through, I like how they interact. But aside from character interactions, idk she's kind of a nothing character. There's nothing wrong with her, and that's like... alright, keep living girl. Yeah there's the stuff of being overpowered by Caliborn and the Muse of Space BS but like. Shhhh late Act 6 never happened okay.

3. Peregrine Mendicant I liked her escapades. I remember nothing about the carapacians though. I'll appreciate you more on a reread, PM...

4. Vriska Serket She's fine. Pitch AraVris 5ever

“I think we should split up.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, Hotshot.”

“I’m serious,” he insisted. “I’ll take the B-team and we’ll clear the back of the building, while you take the A team. It’ll be much quicker.”

Toph rolled her eyes at Kanto. “You and I both know it’s safer when we don’t split up.”

“You’re just nervous for me,” he whispered in her ear, the teasing tone evident in his voice. “Don’t worry, Chief. We’ll split up, and our reunion when we meet in the middle will be oh so sweet.”

“Shut up.”

Kanto chuckled, and part of her hated how the low, rumbly noise that vibrated in his chest when he laughed made her stomach flutter. The damn man did have a way of making her knees weak, even if she didn’t dare admit it.

But before she could give him a proper retort, Kanto placed a gentle, reassuring hand on her shoulder, then walked away. He called out for the B-team to follow him toward the back, and Toph was left to manage her squad. 

With a frustrated huff, she muttered under her breath. “You better make it out in one piece, Hotshot. Otherwise, I’m killin’ ya.”

Toph straightened her posture and put on her game face. Despite her quiet fretting over her stupid deputy, they had a job to do, and she wasn’t about to be distracted by anyone. She raised her hand, beckoning the team to gather around her, and once they all understood the game plan, they’d infiltrate the front of the building together.

Time to go to work.

They took swift action to secure the premise. Her metalbenders apprehended suspects, tying their hands for most, knocking others out cold when they tried to attack. Rooms were cleared, evidence was tagged, and suspects walked out the front door apprehended. The whole situation was rather routine.

Until it wasn’t.

Toph kept track of every body, every heartbeat in that building. And despite her best efforts to not focus on just one, she found herself zeroing in on a particular heartbeat that gave her comfort every morning.

And every night.

As her team organized the suspects outside, Toph monitored Kanto’s whereabouts inside the warehouse. He dallied inside more than she preferred, but that was his way of doing things. Slow, steady, methodical movements to ensure that no evidence got lost in the shuffle of an infiltration mission. It was one of the many qualities that made him such a great deputy chief.

They were almost done with the final sweep in the house, it seemed, and Toph let out the breath she’d been holding as she kept track of Kanto.

But then the world underneath her feet disappeared, and she lost sight of everything.

She lost sight of him.

An explosion rumbled throughout the area, knocking Toph off her feet. When the dust settled and the dazed state faded, panic settled into the earthbender’s bones. Time stopped moving, and all she could think about was how Kanto was still in the building when the explosion occurred, and the thought of the worst-case scenario filled her with dread. She got to her feet and just stood there, unaware of how much time was truly passing as fear overcame everything else.

Questions entered Toph’s brain. Questions she desperately wanted answers to.

What happened?

Where is Kanto?

Did he make it out of there?

Is he alive?

“Chief!”

Officer Jiahao’s voice snapped Toph back to reality. “W-what?”

“We’ve located most of the officers that were still in the building. They’re being transported to the infirmary now, Chief.”

“And Kan—and the, uh, Deputy? Where is he?”

“He was pulled out of the rubble a bit ago, Chief. They were taking him to the infirmary, but—”

Toph wasted no time and ran to the hospital. 

Her lungs burned and her legs didn’t move fast enough, but Toph kept going. She ignored her aching muscles and her sore body from the explosion; all that mattered was getting to the hospital to find Kanto. 

Right now, nothing mattered to Toph except him.

When she finally arrived, Toph didn’t bother to ask anyone for directions. She wandered the halls, desperately searching for a familiar heartbeat, voice, scent, anything.

The spirits were good to her, it seemed. Because when she passed one of the last rooms in the hall, Toph caught a whiff of a charred version of Kanto’s cologne. 

“Kanto?”

No one responded to her, but the healers in the room shuffled around the cot, furiously helping their patient. She made her way to the side, tentatively grabbing the person’s hand.

And she immediately knew it was him.

“Kanto?” Her voice wavered as she spoke. “Kanto, baby, please say something.”

His breathing was ragged, and his undergarments for his uniform were singed. The healers tried to get Toph to move, but she refused. She squeezed his hand, forcing herself to hold back the tears that wished to fall. “Kanto, wake up for me. Please wake up.”

Kanto remained quiet, and Toph nearly lost all hope. Her world suddenly felt darker than it ever had been, and it was all because her stupid deputy made her fall in love—

“Ugh.”

Toph gasped, inching closer to Kanto’s face. “H-Hotshot?”

The man groaned again, stirring ever so slightly in his cot. As he regained consciousness, Toph held her breath and waited for him to say something. Anything.

She prodded him to answer her one more time, gently caressing his cheek “Baby?”

Kanto swallowed thickly, and in a hoarse voice, finally replied. “Told you our reunion would be sweet.”

“Wh—”

“Pretty romantic of you to kneel by my bedside as I wake up.”

With a teary laugh, she said, “Oh, just shut up and kiss me.”

And he did. He kissed her lovingly, longingly, as if they’d been separated for half an eternity and not just a couple hours. 

Despite the stress earlier in the day, Toph had to admit that the reunion was oh so sweet.

Tagged by @outtoshatter for Messy Draft Monday! We had a GIGANTIC lightning storm for over an hour and one of them was really close and something in my router went "zap" and now it's dead so lol writing time I guess.

I got bit by a plot bunny earlier thinking about never-taken-in-by-Bruce Civilian!Dick and early Batgirl!Babs so here's some banter.

“Are you injured?” he asked. “Just my pride,” she said with a sigh. He flashed her a relieved smile. “Ah, not sure I can help with that. We didn’t cover bruised egos in EMT training.” “Clearly the training needs an update,” she said dryly. “I can improvise?” the stranger offered with a laugh, extending a hand to help her up. “Well, I wouldn’t say no to a little bit of an ego boost.” Barbara decided she probably didn’t have too much face to save considering he’d found her lying in a pile of trash and took the offered hand, letting the man help haul her to her feet. “Wow, you’re tall,” he blurted out, without thinking based on the way he winced the second it was out of his mouth. To be fair, the boots added a little bit of height, but only a little bit, and Barbara was still taller than a lot of people without them. She kept her expression carefully neutral. “Gee, thanks, consider my ego fully boosted,” she said flatly. “Uh. I like your hair? Wait, that’s still weird, I should maybe quit while I’m behind.” The stranger shrugged and gave her a sort of lop-sided smile. “Mm, it might have been less painful if I did need stitches,” Barbara agreed with a smirk. “Oh, definitely.” He nodded emphatically, smile widening. “I’m great at stitches. The key is distraction.” “‘Look over there, there’s a gorilla in a tutu’?” Barbara suggested. “I prefer jokes. What do you give a sick lemon?” Judging from the way he was grinning, Barbara was positive she wasn’t going to like the answer. He didn’t bother waiting for her to respond, though, before answering. “Lemon-aid.” Barbara rolled her eyes, moving her head to make sure it came through with the mask. “Oh, I get it, inflict worse pain so the original doesn’t hurt as much.” “They do say laughter is the best medicine.” “Yeah, but that means you actually have to be funny.” “Maybe I should try silly costumes and prat falls?” he suggested, his smile going a bit sharper. “How about you stick to your thing and I’ll stick to mine? I don’t think I can handle that kind of punishment.”

About ten seconds later Dick puts his entire foot in his mouth and Babs tells him exactly what he can do with his unsolicited, condescending advice, it's the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
