1. A Lilias Drinking Song🍻

I was really pleased with how this came out; I'd had the urge to write an AnS song for a while and had a lot of fun coming up with a tune and some lyrics, imagining a lively inn atmosphere. It was like taking a step into the ans-verse~

2. At The Reins

My first AnS fic, written for obiyukimadness21, 'Almost Kiss' prompt. I feel like I captured the personal atmosphere I wanted to go for here! I am pleased with my descriptions and think I kept the characters true to canon :)

3. Fearless Folly

Obiyukiweek21 submission; although not my best art I really like the idea of these two sauntering into a soiree without a care, arm in arm, commoners united 💪

4. Future Nostalgia Obi

This year I was slightly obsessed with the album Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa and got into it around the same time as I did obiyuki. Hence, the two are linked in my mind, and Future Nostalgia Obi was born! 🙌 Here I drew him in the place of Dua Lipa in the album art and I just really like how it looks. I like his expression and the fabric detail and his pose, and how said pose ends up revealing his major chest scar which feels relevant. It was a drawing I started not meaning for it to be much but then I loved how it turned out! (plus I think Obi fits this kind of diva vibe ngl)

5. Pillow talk part 1.

For obiyukimadness21 - Only One Bed prompt :D had fun with this one and I think that comes across, haha. First time drawing an AnS comic and clearly it's pretty rough but I'm still happy with it! I love comics and the idea of making them, so actually completing one (even if it was just a 'part 1') was a feat in itself and I suppose I'm proud of that. My aim is to make more comics next year, (starting with Pillow Talk part 2 😅) and try to neaten them up, so here's to that!

Honourable mention: Obi and Torou sketches that I was proud of! I liked the head angles and their expressions, imagining who or what they were reacting to :D

Starry sky Ladynoir

This list is in no particular order, but this drawing is probably my most favourite thing I created last year. I love it so much! I just think the colours are so so pretty and it makes me really happy to look at. Picking colours that look cohesive and nice together is something I sometimes struggle with so I’m really pleased with this one. Plus, it’s just really cute!

Marichat in flower field

This one!!! I’m so proud of how this one turned out, honestly. I looove how the grass and the flowers look and I kinda want to lay down in that field for a while. The whole background of this was a bit of an experiment and I wasn’t really sure how it was going to turn out but I think it turned out so pretty and bright and I love it! I’m also very proud of myself for actually sticking with it and finishing it bc I had to restart almost the entire background when my computer decided to crash just as I hit save so that wasn’t much fun lol

This Knit Happens

Writing was really hard last year so this was the only fic I was able to finish but I’m really proud of it! It makes me smile like mad to reread it so that’s a good sign. I think it’s just really fun and cute and I love it! My favourite part of it is the fact that Adrien really just wanted to make his good friend Marinette a nice present. That makes me really soft hehe

Korrasami day

2021 was the year I finally started branching out of my comfort zone of drawing solely lovesquare and started drawing things for other fandoms as well. This one in particular I really like how it turned out! I had tried drawing Korra previously but for some reason just could not figure out how to draw her hair but then for this one it suddenly clicked and I was so so excited I could finally draw her hair lol. And I think the piece turned out so pretty! The colours are so lovely and I really love these two so this one makes me really happy

Ladrien in hoodies

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one, I just like it! The colours are pretty, they’re cute, the background turned out better than I thought it would!

2021 Creator Self-Love Extravaganza!

Oh boy I didn't expect this as Im more of a baby creator haha. This year was a big step for me cause I got my first graphic tablet (just this June i think?) WOW. I finally grew some balls and posted one of my first AnS fanarts, I obviously still have a long way to go and a lot of stuff to learn but Im very proud of myself :) cant wait to get better and make more lovely fanart like everyone else here!

1. Shirayuki thinks you are doing great!

The second work I ever posted! Ah the FEELS I get from this one. I still love it and it actually gives me motivation, I just jshqkafjfjshfksfsfjds yeah she's the cutest <3

2. “Wildflowers best stay wild.”

Torou my beloved, my darling, my everything + flower symbolism, Im over the moon with this one cause as you can see 90% of my brain contains Torou and flowers :,) I had so much fun researching cornflowers and learning more about them! I'm petting my back for Torou's hair (and choking from that horrible skin). I remember having a hard time with this new brush but I think I’m finally getting a hang of it.

3. This shitpost meme lol idk

I'm too much of a clown not to include this one. In all honesty I unironically absolutely adore this one, not only is this the first time I drew Kiki but its also the first time I tried proper coloring oh boy I LOVE THE COLORS Im so so proud this is where I peaked xD Kiki is simply the best what a queen.

4. AnS x The Owl House AU

Ah yes my forgotten The Owl House AU, It still brings me joy even though I don't keep up with Owl house anymore. One of my best pieces hands down, love everything about this, the pose, colors, Shirayuki as a plant witch and her small pointy ears aaaaa Coming up with the headcanons and scenarios was such an amazing experience, I haven't had so much fun in a long time. When TOH comes back from a hiatus I'll explore more of this AU for sure.

5. Zenyuki lullaby

Cute Zenyuki moment I drew for Alex as a gift! Heavily inspired by chapter 100 and Alex's prompt. I'm in love with the atmosphere in there so I tried something similar yet different. An idea hit me like a train and I just couldn't rest lmao. Really one of my favourite Zenyuki moments.

I had so much fun this year and I can see a lot of improvement, time to get on the grind and get better! Hope next year and other years will be as entertaining as this one :D Thank you everyone~

2021 Creator Self-Love Extravaganza!

Thanks @ladyofthenoodle for the tag and the poisoned chalice 😂 (joking) self-love on my own work, what a cute concept, but as you said, we try!

I didn't produce lots this year compared to last year for many reasons, but here are 5 of my fav works in no order in particular I guess? (with some unfinished things aha)

This Post-Rocketear comic: I wanted to challenge myself a little here and try a fully coloured comic. It took forever and it's far from perfect but it was an interesting experience and I'm glad I managed to go through with it! It also taught me a lot about poses and comics in general.

What the future holds, we'll never know: this is my biggest fic one-shot up to date and it took forever but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and how I managed to write some scenes I had in mind.

This Marinette art: I'm pretty happy with how the pose and expression turned out, not sure how I managed haha

This Ladrien art (currently my pfp): I hadn't planned on drawing it at all, but I got hit with Ladrien feels one fine April morning and boom here they were! It looks pretty simple, but I sucked at drawing profiles until I found an amazing tuto, and this drawing was pretty much me practicing profiles with the tuto and finally being satisfied with it.

WIP · @amimons's "draw this in your style" (hers here): I have yet to finish it and hopefully will soon, but I've started last month and I'm excited with the stupid idea I got for it haha so here it is even though I'll post it in 2022

2021 Creator Self-Love Extravaganza!

Years total: 100918 words (plus 3-5k more, depending), 41 fic chapters (so far, 1-2 more to go)

1. Annie’s Birthday AUs (AnS, assorted). This was a rough year creatively - I struggled with almost everything and was starting to worry my writing brain was broken beyond repair, but for some reason I sat down to make her a birthday present and a ridiculous amount of ideas just came flowing out. It was a gift for both of us.

2. The wedding chapters of The Courtship of Izana Wisteria (AnS, many weird ships) I still don’t know exactly where this story is going or how it’s going to get there, but man I enjoyed getting the stabby parts out there. I’d been looking forward to this part for a long time.

3. Oath and Claw (AnS, Shirayuki/Obi). I do pride myself (pride, ha) on rolling with any AU I’m handed, but trying to come up with a lion shifter one stumped me for a while. But I managed, adding a couple of deities to twist up the story a bit, and it not only has been a lot of fun to think about, it’s the only major story I got through in its entirety this year. (I say got through because I will have by the end of the year)

4. A Turning in the Woods, the Necromancer AU choose-your-own-adventure (AnS, Shirayuki/Obi. This was a hoot to write, just a very different kind of writing process trying to keep track of all the possible story threads. I’m not sure anyone got to the actual necromancy part, and definitely nobody found the secret chapter, but I had a lot of fun figuring it all out.

5. The Image of an Officer (Hakouki, Chizuru/Sakamoto) This was a tricky pairing I’d never written before and I was trying to make it funny, to boot, but it was just too good an idea and a good opportunity for another gift for a friend. This pairing doesn’t get enough love, for such a fun route.

Maybe more original fiction again, depending on how the year and my stress levels go. I’m trying to be nice to myself, so If I’m still struggling like I have been this year, it may be just odds and ends and challenges.

And extra special thanks to @infinitelystrangemachinex, @sabraeal, and @bubblesthemonsterartist. I’m always learning from them, and most (if not all) of my best work is due to their advice and encouragement. It was a very hard year on me as a writer, but without them it would have been much worse.

well, this year (and by that I mean last year; I’m a touch late) was actually my first year posting stories, and I wanted to start off by thanking everyone for being so welcoming on here! I was very intimidated to post my first ever chapter and I didn’t expect people to read it, much less leave such nice encouragement.

I’m sitting at 10 published stories totaling 66500 words (people have asked and yes, I compulsively re-edit to force the even numbers). Here are my top five based on an arbitrary personal ranking system I can’t explain:

1. Imbalance

15/15, 40700 words, rated T

This was my multichapter chat noir vigilante au where he is fighting evil all on his own (until he isn’t) and he meets a girl on a balcony. I’m afraid of giving away all the surprises so instead of a summary I will put one of my favorite marichat conversations from chapter three:

“You seemed a little jumpy when I first saw you.”

“A perfectly reasonable reaction, considering I thought I was being attacked.”

“You were being rescued. People always make that mistake.”

“Maybe you’re rescuing people wrong.”

This story is my number one for every possible reason. I wrote the whole thing for myself before I published a single word, and I was reluctant to to publish it. I worried that people wouldn’t like it and that their opinions would ruin it for me. But everyone reacted to every part just like I hoped they would, even picking out the tiny details I was so fond of (the ch. 9 thumb thing, amiright?). This was my first fandom experience, and I learned that it is even more fun to share the things you love with other people. (oh and people made fanart? and I cried?)

If you have a day to spare, please go read it because I’m so proud of it.

2. Star Crossed Series

Three one-shots that could be alone but are better together (like ladynoir) , 5500 words total, rated G

“So, he kept the Ladybug and the Cat apart because he knew that together they were stronger and they would certainly defeat him. But one day, despite the Butterfly’s evil plotting, they found a way to be together. You see, they… they loved each other.”

Chat went completely still beneath her.

“They both loved each other very much.” She could feel her heart racing, but she pressed on. “In… in the story.”

Post-Chat Blanc angst and I love this for two parts: the ladynoir and the feeeeeeels

3. Since We’ve No Place to Go (Let It Snow)

One-Shot, 4600 words, rated G

Marichat, snowed in together, only one bed, chaotic best friend energy. I had an impossible time picking a favorite from the A Very Lovesquare Christmas trope series, so I went with this one because I am the treasurer of Marichat nation. My favorite part: Marinette tries to guess Chat’s real name (wrong answers only).

4. The Stomach Bug

One-shot, 1900 words, rated G

Ladybug takes a sick day. Chat is very concerned.

Me again with the plot-twists. This is some adorable domestic fluff and I don’t want to spoil anything but I love this one because it’s fun and really, really cute.

5. Somebody Waits for You (Kiss Her Once For Me)

One-shot, 2900 words, rated T

This is another Very Lovesquare Christmas trope story featuring Ladynoir stuck under the mistletoe. I picked it because... okay, truth time, because I was really proud of the kiss. I wasn’t sure I could write one and I was a disaster the whole time.

Also the line “what’s got her jingle in a jam?” and #ladynoir forever.

That was fun! I am tagging anyone who sees this and wants to participate.

Year’s totals (a rough estimate, because I failed to actually keep track this year and it took me a while to sort through what I’d worked on this year!): 191,980 words, 3 playlists/moodboards, and 5 fanarts! Most of that word count comes from FOTC (which is currently sitting at 231,649 [95,047 is posted]).

1. Fall of the Crown (Obiyuki & Itoyuki). This fic has been a labour of love and I am still trying to wrap up the epilogue/translation chapters, but I’m so happy with it. It’s the largest fic I’ve ever written and at times it definitely felt like the characters had thrown out my plot and I was just frantically trying to write up the incident reports, but it all seems to have worked out in the end. It also gave me ideas for a prequel with some of the characters (if people are interested in that, eventually). Plus, I found a new rarepair that I’m obsessed with. So. That’s fun (and has given me thinky-thoughts for another fic).

2. Last Christmas (Obiyuki). I had so much fun with this one and I was so glad to have finally finished and posted it! Those first few scenes have been sitting in my drafts folder for far too long, haha.

3. Unheavenly Creatures (Obiyuki). I have FINALLY started on getting this rewrite/overhaul ready. The OG is all pulled into Scrivener, and now I just have to finish plotting it out and get started on the whole writing thing haha. I am looking forward to working on this one though, and am excited to give it the full attention it deserves. When I originally started writing this one, I had a rough idea of where I wanted to go with it, so I don’t think it’ll be as much of an overhaul as FOTC was, but we’ll see once I get into it I guess!

4. Find Our Way (Itoyuki, with a dash of Obiyuki and maybe some Izanayuki or Zenyuki). As this is still just in the early planning stages, the title may change; but, when writing FOTC, I quickly came to realize that I’m a sucker for Itoyuki and my brain just keeps feeding me snippets and scenes of the two of them. The general idea for this fic is that Shirayuki winds up in an unwanted pregnancy situation (still tbd at the moment whether it’ll be with Izana or Zen, but I’m leaning towards Izana) and, although technically a bastard (with no real claim to the throne), Izana recognizes that the child would still be family. Wanting to protect Shirayuki and the child from the viciousness of the palace/court, he starts trying to develop a plan to get them out of there and cared for (but still close enough to keep an eye on). Of course, Obi offers to whisk her away and claim the child as his own, but Izana points out that it wouldn’t exactly be believable if the kid comes out with blue eyes and blond/silver hair (sure, genetics can be fun and unpredictable, but that’s pushing it). Conveniently, Kazuki and Itoya drop in for something, and Izana immediately grabs Itoya and is like, ‘YOU! YOU’RE PERFECT!’. Boom, arranged marriage and things happen. ANYWAYS. One day, I’ll actually write this, instead of just making notes and daydreaming about it hahah...

5. Sword & Bauble Playlist/Moodboard (Obiyuki). I had a lot of fun making this playlist/moodboard. I’m not kidding, I spent WAY too much time pulling photos and sifting through songs (although, there were some that were immediate adds, just because I listened to them on repeat while actually writing the fic). I’m just really pleased with how it came together.

Honourable mention would probably be the latest chapters of SoulM8! It wasn’t all written this year, but it’s probably the most nsfw content I’ve written for a fic lol. So, that was something. Also, there’s a drawing I did for Damned (I’m thinking it takes place after current events), that’s finished, but I’ve yet to post, that I’m actually happy with (for once). So that was a good feeling.

Plans for this year: Finish the fucking epilogue and translation chapters for FOTC and then move onto UNHEAVENLY CREATURES 😈. Hopefully I can finish it, or get close to finishing it. And, if I find motivation and inspiration, possibly write some more Itoyuki fics or start on the one I mentioned above. I’m also hoping to be around a little more in the fandom...

2021 Creator Self-Love Extravaganza!

i passed away and came back to the fandom in like.... november so there aren’t a lot of works i published but.... i have a lot of wips? LMAO

1. you and me at the end of the world - chat blanc fic from chat’s pov when he was all alone + when ladybug showed up. i haven’t seen a lot of fics from his perspective when he was akumatized so i wanted to try that and it turned out better than i expected :’) one parallel i was especially proud of:

in the beginning: “It hurts, and he’s supposed to cry when it hurts. But the signals must’ve gotten mixed up somewhere from his brain to his face, because he smiles at her instead.”

in the end: “He wants to laugh, because how can it be them against the world when there is nothing left of the world? But the signals must’ve gotten mixed up somewhere from his brain to his face, because he doesn’t laugh; rather, he cries.”

2. come roses, come thorns - my marichat beauty and the beast au that i left to rot for a yr.... and i finally came back to it and managed to update LOL.... had to reread my own fic twice to orient myself on what was going on so i could write abt it bc i forgot half the characters existed. but i did it in the end so....

3. break the runway - im going to be honest, i’m proudest of the title. it’s as stupid as fashion disaster adrien.

4. can’t help falling in love - this fic was actually a challenge to finish for some reason... idk why? it’s basically ladybug watching chat noir be a sweetheart and realizing she’s whipped asf bc. ladynoir. i liked some of my descriptions ahahaha

5. come in with the rain (wip) - based on maryssa’s comic - i’m pretty proud of the plot!! i’m still like... 1/4 done part i but i like where it’s going and im excited for to finish it!! fingers crossed that i finish it before school starts again lol

2021 Creator Self-Love Extravaganza!

thanks @emsylcatac for the tag! never done a tag game before, much less such a unique one, so i'll try

it's my first time/year writing and i honestly didn't expect myself to write 9 fics when i first started out in March, so here's 5 personal favs?? in no particular order:

Poisson d’Avril this was a piece i wrote and published in a few hours after learning about France's concept of April Fool's in class! this fic almost didn't see the light of day until a year later because by the time i ended class, half the day was already gone... until i realised the rest of the world was still on the 1st of April, so i wrote it on the way home et voilà ! it was also my 2nd piece ever so i was pleasantly surprised by how i was able to write it down rather quickly ^^

Unstained identity reveal through Adrien almost getting akumatised; basically my dream turned into a fic. and uh, its not a long fic but it was something for me cause i literally wrote this fic for that one scene in my dream and had to write and publish as i go

cataclysmic creations just, marichat being stupid. it was a gift for @miabrown007 and i actually had a fancomic drawn for another fandom which i could see totally working for this pair. the only challenge for me was how to convey everything from a comic to a fic. and ngl, i thought people were gonna scoff at how ridiculous it was, but was glad that that didn't happened :3

this is us trying what can i say other than this is the longest piece i've written to date? also it's for ladynoir july 🐞🐾

with you, everything and nothing makes sense another gift for a friend, but this time its adrinette. due to unforeseen circumstances, i spent way lesser time on this than intended and wasn't writing it with full focus. when i was done, i quickly moved on to another cause that was more urgent. anyway, when i finally got back to this for editing, i went "how the heck did i even write this??" like wow. i made words work, and i had no idea how. also, this was slightly spicy out of the normal things i write so 👉👈

Heartbeat Opera Announces 2021-2022 Season

Highlights include MESSY MESSIAH, FIDELIO, and more.

HEARTBEAT OPERA will return to the in-person stage for its eighth season this year. Heartbeat's 2021-22 season kicks off in September with a free outdoor screening of BREATHING FREE, their visual album that connects Beethoven's Fidelio with the work of Black composers and lyricists such as Harry T. Burleigh, Langston Hughes, and Anthony Davis to manifest a dream of justice, equity, and breathing free. BREATHING FREE builds on Heartbeat's 2018 work with incarcerated singers and prison choirs, and continues its exploration of race and the American prison system. Then in December, Heartbeat's beloved annual drag extravaganza, MESSY MESSIAH, returns after six years of Halloween shenanigans for a new Christmas special. Looking ahead to winter 2022, Heartbeat plans to go on its first-ever tour, remounting its production of FIDELIO, which Joshua Barone of The New York Times called "urgent, powerful, and poignant," for seven performances across four cities, kicking off at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Heartbeat will later present its pilot production of NO EVIL projects, QUANDO, ossia Project "0," which is co-produced with Long Beach Opera and refashions music from Verdi's operas La Traviata and Don Carlo and Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice into a 25-minute short film. Heartbeat also continues to work on its first-ever commission, THE EXTINCTIONIST, an opera by Heartbeat Co-Music Director Daniel Schlosberg, librettist Amanda Quaid, and Heartbeat Co-Founder & Resident Director Louisa Proske. The Extinctionist wrestles with climate catastrophe and with one woman's unorthodox choice, with the goal of presenting its world premiere in winter 2023.

At the helm are Artistic Director Ethan Heard, Associate Artistic Director Derrell Acon, Co-Music Directors Jacob Ashworth and Daniel Schlosberg, and Managing Director Annie Middleton. Heartbeat Opera was founded in 2014 and has since grown from an indie "start up" into an internationally recognized player, consistently hailed as a leader in envisioning the future of opera.

Over the past seven years, Heartbeat has presented six fabulous extravaganzas at venues across Brooklyn: Hot Mama: Singing Gays Saving Gaia; Dragus Maximus: a homersexual opera odyssey; All the World's a Drag! Shakespeare in love...with opera; Queens of the Night: Mozart in Space; Miss Handel; and Purcell's The Fairy Queen. Some of the most beautiful and famous music from the operatic canon becomes the landscape for this fierce social satire of sex, activism, and the performance of everyday life. Music from Verdi's operas La Traviata and Don Carlo and Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice are repurposed and refashioned into a 25-minute short film that follows a starry-eyed young couple as their night on the town unravels into a surrealist swirl of decadence, intrigue, and ultimately, vengeful justice.

The short film, a co-production with Long Beach Opera and produced by Heartbeat's newly-appointed Associate Artistic Director Derrell Acon, will be screened as is, and then followed by a second presentation that features live composer-performers actively disrupting and reconstituting the music from the score for a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. No two performances will be the same, as the ending will change with each iteration of the live performances, and audiences will be challenged to re-examine their perceptions of art and its role in societal transformation.NO EVIL is an initiative meant to create a self-replenishing fund of seed money for new projects in the opera field by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color) creators. During the 2020-21 season, Heartbeat Opera commissioned its first-ever opera, The Extinctionist, a one-act work that grapples with the catastrophic effects of climate change and one woman's unorthodox choice to sterilize herself to save the planet and become the very first "Extinctionist." The dark comedy turns one woman's body into the battlefield of our political anguish, conflicting desires, and individual responsibility.

This past May, The Exctintionist was featured in The New York Times, which chronicled Heartbeat's longtime commitment to reimagining classic works and its new expansion into commissioning. A semi-staged production of the opera was presented in May 2021 at PS21 in Chatham, New York, and the world premiere is slated for Winter 2023.

Well, shit. I have uploaded practically nothing in 2020 LOL. Like... I’m cheating with my answers but hey, we’re gonna count my favourite robstar week oneshots as individuals cos otherwise, I don’t even make half of the 8 lmao.

1.) Subscribe

Ahh, my current main multi-chapter AU fic that I actually started in August 2019 but I reckon it has seen most updating this year, tbh. It’s honestly one of my favourite AU concepts that my brain has ever birthed. A YouTube AU with Gar as the channel owner just feels like such a Gar thing and I’m so excited to keep going with it in 2021.

2.) Nova

I actually love this oneshot that was completed and submitted as part of my involvement in the dickkory zine that was created early 2020. I only posted the excerpt on tumblr which you can find by clicking ‘Nova’ as I thought I’d keep the whole thing just as an exclusive thing for the zine. But, I really loved writing that and felt my final piece was pretty great considering there’s a word limit and a specific theme to follow and it was such good fun, all in all so loved that one.

3.) Simulation

I actually forgot about this oneshot until I was scrolling through my tumblr tags like ‘wtf did i even write this past year??’ and I remembered the atrocity that was JLD: Apokolips War and how the burning need to write a fix it fic for all my dickkory pals was literally overwhelming. I was actually pretty happy with the final product, despite it’s length. And also, it gave me the dcamu dickkory ending that I wanted lmao.

4.) Robstar Week - Day 1: Star-Aligned/Destiny

I think I was actually pretty negative about this when I initially posted it for Robstar week but since then, I have come to appreciate that writing anything during this last shit show of a year is a miracle so y’know, we’ll take it as a win lmao. I actually really did enjoy writing a oneshot that’s mostly between Dick and Wally and talking about Starfire cos it makes me smile.

5.) Robstar Week - Day 3: Tamaran

Another addition for Robstar week that I actually really enjoyed reading as I love writing little moments such as these between the two dorks. Anything that is remotely adorable and intimate in a fluffy way is like heaven to me; whether I’m reading it or if I happen to be writing it XD.

6.) Robstar Week - Day 4: Fantasy AU

My absolute faveeeee for Robstar week, to the point, I am now in the midst of planning a whole AU multi-chapter fic around it. I fell in love with the idea of Dick basically being akin to a Witcher and being paid to ‘deal with’ Kory, a magic user which is prohibited in the lil made up world. I honestly vibed with the idea so much and even now, I love it. There’s so many more details and plot I wanna add into it so it will eventually be a whole fic but... it’s been shelved for a little while til I get Bound and Subscribe updated to where I want them.

7.) Robstar Week - Day 6: Wedding Bells

I may start to sound like a broken record but this happens to be another submission from robstar week that I really smiled at whilst writing. It was great to take a fairly common prompt and just do an actual wedding so it was fun to slightly spin that around for how I wrote it instead.

8.) Robstar Week - Day 7: Constellations

I already mentioned how I love writing Robin and Starfire in these little cute and intimate moments that are filled with sugary fluff. This is kind of another one. I really do believe they would have these little games or things between them such as a game revolving around constellations and guessing. Idk I just really enjoyed this one as well.

I honestly did not think there were gonna be 8 to list lmao. I wasn’t overly active in 2020 due to... *gestures around me* the state of the world for the majority of the year. I’m hoping 2021 will be a more productive year for me in terms of updating current projects as well as bringing some new things to the fic table.

2020 Creator’s Self-Love Extravaganza

Boy howdy, but it has been a year. So much so that I felt the need to dig up this meme so I can lavish myself with a little TLC, ‘cause you know what? I deserve it! And so do you. This year has been tough, and even in the best of times it can be a real struggle to remember that, instead of being your own worst enemy, you should strive to be your best cheerleader. Remember to be kind instead of cruel, to forgive rather than condemn yourself. Creativity is hard, and it is always a journey, never a final destination, so let’s take a moment and sight-see where we’ve been this year, yeah???

1.) With Ribs Laid Open - As many of you know, way, WAY back in 2018, when I was heavily pregnant with my second child, I hit 500 followers and decided to make a raffle for requesting fics which were supposed to be posted during my February-May hiatus after giving birth. This was a great idea pretty much right up until after the raffle winners was announced, since only a week or two later, my grandfather got massively ill, I got EVEN MORE heavily pregnant, and the great complex of shitty 2019/2020 occurred. I’d managed to finish Tender Concessions right at the turn of the new year due to Winter Challenge, which handled two of the promised fics, and this one ended up being the very first raffle fic I promised without a challenge helping me along. I’d been working on it off and on since the request was made, never quite getting it to sit right up until I started working on it at the end of 2019. It was not only a great personal accomplishment, but the daemon AU is really one of my favorite ones I’ve done, and getting to write Obi and Od Ana’s backstory was something I’d been dying to do since I posted Creatures of a Brief Season.

2) Sic Semper Monstrum - I started this fic in 2018, and it’d actually been an idea I’d had way back in 2016 when I first watched Pac Rim. It’s an AU I’ve always really enjoyed, and I really love how it’s turned into this ensemble piece, rather than strictly a ship fic (and I’m sure anyone who has read Seven Suitors knows how much I really love getting to do ensemble elements). But this year it had sort of an added meaning to me-- I’d promised vfordii I’d write this fic for her birthday at the end of December, but December is my MOST PACKED month, so she’s used to getting her present late...and then it got later. And later. And suddenly I was in the hospital because OH YEAH, I’d just been actively dying for about a year. It was actually when I was in the hospital recuperating that I realized my issue with the chapter I was working on-- I’d been trying to make it Zen POV, when it was very, very obviously meant to be Kiki’s. And when I got out, this ended up being the first fic I posted post-recovery. And then I added another chapter to it only a few weeks later! And it’ll be one of the first fics posted in 2021 (sorry, v). So this one really holds a big place in my heart right now, if only because it really came with me on my whole medical journey.

3) Seven Swipes for Shirayuki - As I’m sure plenty of you are aware, Seven Suitors was the fic I was known for for about...forever. It’s actually only within the last year or two that people have read something else of mine first, and the sequel tends to be the first thing most people ask about. But it was also my first posted fic EVER, and the first long form story I’ve completed in years, and so it holds a very special place in my heart. So trying to tell the modern version of it was utterly nerve-wracking. After all, a lot of Zen’s shenanigans wear a lot better on a prince than an American billionaire. It’s been slow to start, but I have to say...I’ve impressed myself with how the adaptation is going. I have a LOT of funs plan for it, but the biggest hump was really getting through the break up scene since it was always going to be...intense. And then I did it, in a way I really liked! And going forward, I’ll get to do a lot more tinder shenanigans, and a lot less heartbreak (mostly >:3c).

4) The Daisy Chain - I have...an embarrassing amount of fics that are sitting, untouched, with only one chapter left to go. Or at least, I pretend they do. But it was ACTUALLY true for Daisy Chain, so getting the opportunity to wrap up one fic I’d been working on since 2017 was...amazing. It was a lot of blood sweat and tears to get this finished, but I’m so happy to have completed something I started so long ago.

5) The Lone Wolf Survives - This is the fic I did not want to write. I’m not a fan of A/B/O; in fact I’m generally annoyed by it because it uses WRONG WOLF DYNAMICS and like, BAD SCIENCE, and though when it’s done good it’s GREAT, it’s usually done terrible and UGHHHH. So when I realized I needed to do it for bingo I...complained. A lot. The most. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. But I eventually settled on the plot of this fic, letting it be canon-but-not, and it just...worked. And I’m ultimately proud that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, and now may torture you with the smut that has not yet happened, ah ha ha ha >:3c

2020 Creator’s Self-Love Extravaganza

Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favorite works (fics, art, edits, etc.) you’ve created this year and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world in 2020. If you don’t have five published works, that’s fine! Include ideas/drafts/whatever you like that you’ve worked on/thought about, and talk a little about them instead! Remember, this is all about self-love and positive enthusiasm, so forget the rules if you need to. Have fun, and tag as many fellow creators as you like so they can share the love! <3

1.) We Will Raise Warriors

Caradin family feels plus quarantine brought on this oneshot that was the first thing I really wrote and liked--and posted--since 2009! I wrote it on Mother’s Day, for reasons, but didn’t post it to ff.net (my old standby) until a few weeks later (and then accidentally deleted it back in July when I created the preview image--because it’s not intuitive and I’m old 😅). It’s possible that I might add more chapters in the future (maybe nine or ten.....again for reasons 😉)--but I’ll just have to see how things go.

2) The Lost Get Found

Again, inspired by Caradin feels--but this time, it’s a rather fluffy slow burn that picks up a few days after Season 1 ended. There are lots of Mandalorian family feels, friendship feels, some interesting appearances (and more to come soon!), some cultural stuff I had to do some mental acrobatics to make work--and certain characters Finally catch the break canon refuses to give them! I’m kinda hoping this one can pick up a bit once I get past the next few chapters--and that it will eventually become a trilogy (for which I already have titles!)

Okay, those are the only ones I’ve written this year (and TLGF keeps me quite busy!)--but here are a few ideas I hope come to fruition--maybe in 2021?

3.) Tales of Love in Winter

One snowy night, two cousins reminisce about the planet Krownest--where one found love for the first time, and the other rediscovered the love she feared had been lost forever. May write this one in January, if things evolve to the point in the story that it will make more sense than they would under current circumstances 😉

4.) Promise of a Lifetime

My love for Bo-Katan/Fenn Rau is pretty much equal with my love for Caradin--and like so many others, I very much got the sense there was history between them in those two episodes of Rebels Season 4. This one would be a series of flashbacks told to Sabine after Ezra’s little trip with some space whales, but before the Purge of Mandalore, that explain my take on what that history might be 🧡🧡 I think I might use my playlist for them for chapter titles......you know, since the title itself is a song title 😊

5.) Bridges Have Two Sides

A ‘Frozen 2’ quote title because it’s about Satine (older blonde sister) and Bo-Katan (younger redheaded sister) in the time after Bo spilts from Death Watch and before......sad things happen. I kinda feel that this is the least likely to get written--but who knows?

I have some other ideas--but some may just end up being chapters in TLGF or one of the orther stories in the series, so I’m not going to go into detail on them at this point--because they would either be spoilers, or not happen at all 😂

I spent way too much time doing this, so I’m not gonna tag anyone--but please do this if you’re so inclined! 🥰

On Heartbeat Opera Announces The 2021-2022 Season

HEARTBEAT OPERA will return to the stage for its eighth season this year. Heartbeat’s 2021-22 season kicks off in September with a free outdoor screening of BREATHING FREE, their visual album that connects Beethoven’s Fidelio with the work of black composers and lyricists such as Harry T. Burleigh, Langston Hughes and Anthony Davis to manifest a dream of justice, fairness and free breathing. BREATHING FREE builds on Heartbeat’s work in 2018 with incarcerated singers and prison choirs, and continues its exploration of race and the American prison system. Then in December, MESSY MESSIAH, Heartbeat’s beloved annual drag extravaganza, returns after six years of Halloween shenanigans for a new Christmas special. Looking ahead to winter 2022, Heartbeat plans to make its very first tour, reviving its production of FIDELIO, which the New York Times’ Joshua Barone called “urgent, powerful and poignant”, for seven performances in four cities, kick off at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Heartbeat will later present its pilot production of projects NO EVIL, QUANDO, ossia Project “0”, which is co-produced with Long Beach Opera and reshapes the music of Verdi’s operas La Traviata and Don Carlo and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice in 25 short minutes. footage. Heartbeat also continues to work on its very first commission, THE EXTINCTIONIST, an opera by Heartbeat musical co-director Daniel Schlosberg, librettist Amanda Quaid and Heartbeat co-founder and resident director Louisa Proske. The Extinctionist is fighting climate catastrophe and one woman’s unorthodox choice, with the aim of presenting its world premiere in the winter of 2023.

At the helm are Artistic Director Ethan Heard, Associate Artistic Director Derrell Acon, Musical Co-Directors Jacob Ashworth and Daniel Schlosberg, and General Manager Annie Middleton. Heartbeat Opera was founded in 2014 and has since grown from an independent “start-up” to an internationally renowned player, always hailed as a leader in visioning the future of opera.

In 2018, Heartbeat collaborated with 100 singers incarcerated in six prison choirs to create a contemporary American Fidelio told through the lens of Black Lives Matter. In 2020 – the year of George Floyd’s murder, a pandemic ravaging our prison population, and the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth – they organized a cycle of songs, animated by live music videos, mingling excerpts from Fidelio with Negro Spirituals and songs from Black Composers and Lyricists, which together manifest a dream of justice, fairness … and free breathing.

Heartbeat’s beloved annual drag opera extravaganza returns in all its glory this December. Over the past seven years, Heartbeat has presented six fabulous extravagances in Brooklyn venues: Hot Mama: Singing Gays Saving Gaia; Dragus Maximus: a homosexual opera odyssey; Everyone is a drag! Shakespeare in love … with opera; Queens of the Night: Mozart in Space; Miss Handel; and Purcell’s Fairy Queen. These interdisciplinary celebrations playfully blend opera classics with pop culture and drag to create an otherworldly experience that encourages audience members to embrace opera in a new way.

This year the show moves to December, just in time for Christmas. With familiar tunes from Handel, Tchaikovsky, Berlin and many more, this naughty show celebrates the holidays with wit and warmth. Expect tradition … with a touch of peppermint.

Heartbeat planned to run its Fidelio in 2020, on the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. Then the pandemic struck, particularly affecting the incarcerated and forcing them to postpone the tour. Then George Floyd was assassinated, triggering a much needed racial calculation. Now, with humility and a renewed sense of purpose, Heartbeat has the opportunity to bring the tour back and even expand it. The story of their Fidelio is more urgent and current than ever:

A black activist is wrongly imprisoned. His wife, Leah, disguises herself to infiltrate the system and free it. But when injustice reigns, a woman’s courage may not be enough to save her love. Featuring the voices of imprisoned people, this daring adaptation pits corruption against courage, hatred against hope.

Heartbeat is excited to continue their work on this Fidelio, updating the booklet for our current moment, deepening the company’s commitment to anti-racism in everything it does, collaborating more with its prison choir partners, sharing the production and sparking important conversations. This tour is Heartbeat’s biggest and most ambitious endeavor to date. They have the opportunity to reach thousands of new audience members, including hundreds of young people, in four cities across the country.

Some of the most beautiful and famous music in the opera canon becomes the landscape for this fierce social satire of sex, activism, and everyday performance. Music from Gluck’s Verdi La Traviata and Don Carlo and Orfeo ed Euridice operas is repurposed and transformed into a 25-minute short film that follows a young couple with starry eyes as their night on the town unfolds in a surreal whirlwind of decadence , intrigue and ultimately, a vengeful justice.

The short, a co-production with Long Beach Opera and produced by Heartbeat’s new Associate Artistic Director, Derrell Acon, will be screened as is, followed by a second screening featuring live songwriters disrupting and actively re-enacting the music. of the score for a unique theatrical experience. No two performances will be the same, as the ending will change with each iteration of the live performances, and audiences will be challenged to reexamine their perception of art and its role in transforming society.

NO EVIL is an initiative to create a self-replenishing seed fund for new opera projects by the creators of BIPOC (black, indigenous and other people of color). Acon is in conversation with OPERA America, the Sphinx Foundation, and other industry colleagues about the full structure of NO EVIL Projects, which is slated to launch in 2022.

Acon states, “As the Equity in the Arts Specialist for the OPERA America New Works Forum, I have had the opportunity to facilitate the adjudication committees of all BIPOCs for the award, and have was deeply impressed by the nuance of perspective and intentionality centered in these discussions. I am convinced that the financial barriers faced by marginalized creators in the field require even more attention and action – and, frankly, MONEY! “

World premiere production coming in winter 2023

In the 2020-21 season, Heartbeat Opera commissioned its very first opera, The Extinctionist, a one-act work that deals with the catastrophic effects of climate change and a woman’s unorthodox choice to sterilize to save the planet. and become the very first “Fire extinguisher.” Dark comedy turns a woman’s body into a battleground of our political anxieties, our conflicting desires, and our individual responsibility.

Last May, The Exctintionist was featured in The New York Times, which chronicled Heartbeat’s long-standing commitment to reinventing classic works and its further expansion in commissioning. A semi-staged production of the opera premiered in May 2021 at PS21 in Chatham, New York, and the world premiere is slated for winter 2023.
