PSA if you're generally pretty low on spoons and moving out for the first time buy a crockpot you'd be surprised the amount of recipes that are "put shit in pot do Not stir and come back in two hours"

I came here in regards to your life changing soups!
Phase 1
16 ounces thick cut uncured bacon
2 large yellow onions, Diced
2 medium or 1 large enough (you'll know how large) carrot, sliced
2 tablespoons of tomato paste
4 stalks of celery (break em from the heart right in the grocery store, they won't stop you), diced
4 cloves of garlic sliced thin (remember Goodfellas?)
12 ounces of stout.
In a large skillet, render the fat from your bacon on medium high until it's crispy.
Separate your bacon and pour all but 3 tablespoons of bacon fat into a heatsafe container.
Bring the 3 tablespoons of fat to temp, add your onions, carrots, celery, and tomato paste. Be sure to keep these contents moving so the tomato paste doesn't burn before the onions can sweat. A pinch of salt will help with that,
Once the tomato is more sugary than acidic, and the onions are giving off a slight nutty scent, deglaze with six ounces of stout, and transfer to a crock pot set to low
Drink six ounces of stout
Phase 2
2 Pounds of beef Shank (before seasoning, cover all two pounds with a dusting of baking soda for about 30 minutes, then rinse and dry) coated in salt, pepper, and (listen to me), a lil bit of curry powder on that bad boy.
Fresh thyme, rosemary, sage ( I recommend getting a poultry blend with a little of each rather than spending 14 dollars on all three and coming home to rotting greenery in that sad little clamshell)
That bacon fat you saved from step one
24 ounces of beef broth
Half a stick of butter
2 dry Bay Leaves
In a small saucepan heat a half stick of butter over medium-low heat. Before the butter begins to foam, add a few sticks of each fresh herb, remove from heat, and mash the herbs to release their oils
In the skillet from phase one, heat as much bacon fat as it takes to coat the bottom of the pan, to near smoke point. As faint wisps start to rise, introduce the beef shank. You're not cooking the beef, you're creating a crust and waking up that curry. Flip after 4 minutes and baste with the herb butter from your saucepan, reduce heat allow to cook for 4 minutes more.
Remove shanks from pan and place on a rack to cool
While the shanks cool, in the warm skillet with all the drippings add two tablespoons of flour, whisk until thick and smooth.
Pull apart the cool shank pieces and put them in the crockpot (bone included), add 24 ounces of beef broth and your freshly made roux, 2 bay leaves, your sliced garlic (I never forget the garlic) and enough water to cover then raise the crockpot to medium.
Phase 3
Quarter this recipe
To Serve
Big Bowl. Put Soup. Put potatoes. Spoon Optional.

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Salt and pepper to taste
Olive oil for cooking

Hello Lin, I saw your grocery list galore post and felt so seen
I have to cook all the time and I'm terrible at it and don't really enjoy it so if you don't mind, would you be open to sharing one or two of your favourite recipes as inspiration?
Hello!
I don't know what types of foods you like- and I'm as midwest american as they come, so I'll share a couple of my favorites. I have been doing this meal preparation thing for a long time, so I kind of take recipes as a suggestion and do my own thing a lot.
One really easy one that my family loves is this pot roast. get out your crockpot (slow cooker) and throw in a 4-6 pound pot roast (i've never been picky about the cut of the meat- i usually just buy what's on sale), one envelope of ranch seasoning, an envelope of brown gravy mix, and about 6-7 pepperocini. add just enough water to cover the bottom of the slow cooker and cook on low for like 8 hours. I shred mine before serving, but you can also just cut off pieces and eat like that, too. Serve it with mashed potatoes (I'll give you a recipe for those, too!) and a salad and bread if you're feeling fancy. any salad is good! I like the chopped salad kits in a pinch, but if you have time you can throw together a fresh salad with veggies of your choice.
mashed potatoes: you can use any potato you want, but my favorite are the yukon gold. They have a richer flavor and they cook faster than a russet or a red. Wash, peel, and dice a few potatoes (depends on how much you want to make! one good sized potato equals about 1/3-1/2 cup of mashed potato). add them to a pot with just enough water to cover. bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook until you can mash one with a fork. drain all the water except for a little bit, then add butter, salt, pepper, and a splash of heavy cream or milk. you can use a potato masher or get out a hand mixer to whip them.
I just started typing out another recipe, but i'd be here all day if I don't stop myself now. some of our other favorites are fajitas, chicken fried rice, my "taco lasagna", spaghetti with home made meatballs, chicken noodle soup, and bbq pork sliders. my slow cooker is my best friend. if you're interested, i'll share recipes! thanks for asking, and happy cooking!

My old child development class was something else. The amount of wild ass stories I have from that class.
During my first year doing child development our class had a mix of boys and girls (this was the ONLY year this happened. The following years my class was all girls, (and somehow the same group of girls) and one (1) guy) and my teacher was teaching us about menstruation and how it works and one of the guys in class had to lay on the ground because he almost passed out.
The same guy had to be escorted out on a wheelchair because he almost fainted when the teacher had us watching the mandatory birthing videos. We were all looking at him like he was crazy because he also once said he wanted six kids. We were like “Bro you plan to have six kids what did you expect you should kind of need to know this” and he essentially said “Well it’s not ME having the babies!!!”. We all lost respect for him after that.
My teacher had a placenta in a Tupperware container that she had in the closet in her classroom. She would take it out and show it to the class when talking about pregnancy. (I can’t remember if it was hers or not. I think that one was, but the previous one wasn’t hers)
During the sex ed unit (though she wasn’t really allowed to talk about how to have safe sex, just about how the reproductive system works, STDs, teen pregnancies, etc.) she on multiple occasions had us play a game of STD Bingo.
The teacher told us about a girl who got pregnant at a neighboring high school because her boyfriend said she couldn’t get pregnant if she was, and I quote, “Holding her breath” while they were doing it. Whether he meant the whole time they were doing it or just the part where they…you know, but either way wtf.
At one point my teacher sent out the baby project, and my sister and I got it at the same time. Our babies somehow were programmed with the same schedule that weekend, too. Complete coincidence.
One time my teacher was having us watch videos on diaper options (fabric or disposable) and she had us cut open diapers in containers and pour water on them to show how the gel inside the diaper works. She mentioned that a girl in another class period had taken a pad out of her bag and, after doing it to the diaper, did it to the pad. She walked by my table, tapped me on the shoulder, and informed me that the girl was my sister.
Hosted class parties for almost every holiday. Christmas, Halloween, Saint Patricks Day, End of The Year, Hundredth Day, Tuesday of 2/22/22, Thanksgiving, Valentines day, EVERYTHING. The teacher would have us come up with child friendly games and activities and food items centered around these themes and prepare them. Those days were a riot.
Once the teacher let us make a huge box fort and it took up the whole class room.
Some of the kids a couple grades below us had ripped the head off of one of her electronic babies, left food messes on the floor and caused ant issues, stole things, etc and my class proceeded to come up with ideas on how to make sure these assholes would stop. We ended up getting the teacher to put child safety locks on the cabinets, and let us write things on the board like “Stop disrespecting (teacher’s) classroom!”
My teacher once inadvertently insulted my family’s culture because I brought her a jar of apple butter (my family gets together every couple years to make a whole batch of homemade apple butter) and her family loved it so much she tried to make it herself…she didn’t put apple cider in it, and she used a crockpot. There were other things she did wrong with this but these were the main two things she messed up in doing. She tried her best though, lol.
We had circle time in her classroom sometimes where we would sit on the ground while she read us a picture book. Once again, we were all high schoolers. We all loved it and for three years tried to find a way to get her a big alphabet reading rug. No luck, unfortunately.
We all on multiple occasions shit talked men. The one boy in our class asked at least three girls if they needed him to go “talk” to some guys that were bothering them. At one point I said that the standard for men is so low it is a tripping hazard and everyone in class started dying laughing and one girl even ran up and high fived me.
My teacher had to write it down as a physical rule that we could not use the washable markers as lightsabers.
The teacher was so sweet and understanding that she felt like a second therapist.
At one point I came into class and excitedly told my teacher that I went to a metal concert and she looked at me with so much concern and said “Did it make you like…angry???” And was kind of shocked when I said no, that wasn’t quite the purpose all the time, but one song in particular made me bawl my eyes out (it was talking about suicide and it made me think of my friend who took their life several months before)
At one point my teacher was out a lot because she got sick on a couple occasions, had a family emergency or two, took one of her (very rare) vacation weeks to go to Italy with her family (her mom was getting sicker and she wanted to spend the time with her) and called off a couple times because her kids got sick and she had to stay home to take care of them (they were toddlers). There was this young bald guy who we all thought was pretty chill and funny at first before he started acting really bad and judged our teacher for taking so many days off even when we explained why, he cursed a lot, he said, regarding the dress code that he didn’t care, that “girls could walk around dressed like sluts/hoes for all he cared”, once sent a girl to detention for pushing up her glasses with her middle finger (I’m pretty sure she didn’t even think of it, she was just pushing up her glasses and he was pissed at her because she had already been calling out his bullshit), hardly even went over lesson plans or explained homework or assignments, and at one point asked us if any of us knew any hot moms. The teacher requested that we did not have that sub again after we told her and even went to the school board about it but the school board said that she should have made her sub notes more clear. Be more clear as to what? “Don’t curse in front of the students!” “Don’t ask if they know any hot moms!” The school board could honestly go fuck themselves on that one.
The teacher would sometimes pull up on the big projector cute little videos of her kiddos being silly or using some of the activities we would make.
These two girls were constantly bickering and roasting each other. The teacher would always remind them to be kind. She also would scold us for cursing and tell us to “respect the language that comes out of our mouths”
The teacher had us play “guess that baby” where we all each submitted a baby photo of ourselves and as a class we would try to guess who the baby was.
We almost ALWAYS were doing preschool and kindergarten activities.
Honestly that class was just too fucking awesome to listen to every single thing that went down in one post

My Chicken & dumplings soup
Ingredients:
-1 can of cream of chicken
- 1/2 cup of Sherry cooking wine
-evaporated milk
-4 chicken breasts (I use bone in so I can use the bones to make chicken stock)
-1/4 of white onion, diced
-garlic powder, to taste
-ginger powder, to taste
-1 Clove of garlic, minced
-1 bag of frozen mixed veggies, thawed
-1 can of chicken broth, reduced sodium
-1 Maggi cube (I get these from the African market, but a chicken bouillon cube works the same)
-1 small can of biscuits, 5 count
-butter (I used garlic & herb butter from HEB)
-a shake of stew seasoning (I also get this from the African market)
1. Clean & season chicken as you see fit, I make mine spicy. Next, pour full can of chicken stock, pat of butter, Maggi cube and water in a pot big enough for all four chicken thighs. Bring pot to boil, add thighs, then simmer for 10-15 minutes.
2. In a Crockpot, add seasonings, sherry, a bigger pat of your butter, mixed veggies, onions, garlic and cream of chicken during your chicken simmer.
3. Once your thighs are done, remove them from the pot with tongs & pour stock pot liquid into Crockpot.
4. Using two forks, shred chicken thighs very well.
5. Add shredded chicken to Crockpot. Stir everything in the Crockpot together.
6. Open your biscuit can and break the bigger biscuits into smaller pieces. I roll mine into a ball, but you don't have to.
7. Put biscuits/dumplings back in fridge after rolling.
8. Close crockpot lid and press the slow cooker button for 2-3 hours on high.
9. Once time is up, add your dumplings and cook on high again for 45 minutes.
Serve & enjoy! Happy house spousing! ♡

Chef of the Week :  Maisie
Maisie was excited and yet a little nervous with the whole soup preparation at the start of the week but appeared to get more comfortable as the week went by. On Thursday morning, Maisie began by cutting the onions. Her eyes started watering at once and she paused every few minutes to wash her hands and eyes. She then started chopping the garlic but not before she commented on how much she enjoyed their soft texture. Maisie was substituting carrots with broccoli but she had brought in the broccoli already divided into florets. So she was able to start cooking her soup quickly. She dropped the butter into the crockpot and squealed in delight when she saw it melting and moving around in the pot.  Next she added the olive oil and then the onions and garlic went in. The classroom was quickly  filled with the aroma of the vegetables cooking and you could hear appreciative sniffs all around. Maisie then deftly added several grinds of salt and then the broccoli. Everything got a good stir and then it was left to cook for a while. The next day, Maisie learned to use a can opener and added 2 cans of diced tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, thyme, pepper and half and half. She decided not to add the crushed red pepper flakes which were optional. 30 minutes later Maisie’s soup was ready. It was incredibly popular and many, many compliments came her way as her classmates came by for seconds!

Wellness Wednesday:
Back To Reality
I will admit that it felt uneasy taking a week long Thanksgiving vacation from work, but once I got in the thick of lounging around I didn't give work a second thought.
What did I do?
Not much - and it was spectacular!
I only left my hideaway twice - once for snacks and once for entertainment - the rest of the week was jam packed with lounging and gaming (VR and Boardgames).
I ended up leaving my vacation dreading going back to work and slightly addicted to VR gaming.
Oh! And one other note - one side effect from losing weight that I discovered - apparently I lost all the good cushioning in my butt and now I can't handle sitting in a car longer than 2 hours. My rear end was killing me - absolute worst part of the vacation - and to be honest there could have been worse things.

Closing Thoughts:
The Good:
I had a nice relaxing week away from work.
Caught up on some reading and actually finished two books on top of a stack of comics.
The Bad:
Neglected some chores during my time off and now I have some cleaning/tidying up to do.
The Ugly:
Although my week was relaxing - my sleep schedule was definitely thrown for a tailspin. Been lowkey exhausted all week and have been haphazardly falling asleep randomly in the middle of the day.

Fall drinks!
I'm sure there are a lot of people that could say that the warm drinks and beverages of the fall season are certainley the best part about the wonderful time. In my opinion, I can most definitley agree and admit that I have been to Starbucks one too many times this fall. Which brings me to my main blog topic today, the best drinks of this season, whether they are from a coffee shop or can be easily made to enjoy at home.
Starting off strong, a tried and true cold season favourite, hot chocolate. I'm sure many of you have at least had one warm cup of hot chocolate in your lifetime, it definitley makes the perfect drink to warm up and enjoy anytime and anywhere. Of course the original milk chocolate cocoa is always good, I wanted to think of different variations of the drink to either add more seasonal ingrideinets such as pumpkin or just new ways to take it to the next level.
Pumpkin white hot chocolate:
This simple recipe is an easy way to bring those cozy fall flavours into this classic warm drink. To a saucepan, you add 3 cups of whole milk, 1 cup of canned pumpkin puree, 1 and a 1 /2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice and 1 teaspooon of vanilla extract. After a few minutes on low heat, the mixture is ready to be taken off the stove and you can add 4 ounces of your favourite white chocolate bar, stirring until it's fully melted. This recipe is a perfect way to end a cold fall day and warm up while drinking. It doesn't take long and I'd argue it's even better than a regular cup of hot chocolate.
Tumblr media
Salted caramel hot chocolate:
Another simple way to turn your regular hot chocolate into something new and delicious, this one with an added salted caramel flavour. This recipe is divided into two parts, the caramel sauce and the drink itself. Starting with the sauce, stirring in 2/3 cup of heavy cream, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 cup of light brown sugar, 1/2 cup of salted butter and 1 and a 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract on medium heat. Letting the mixture bubble up for 2-3 minutes and then taking it off heat for it to thicken. Now for the drink, combine 3/4 cup of the caramel sauce, 2 cups of heavy cream, 4 cups of milk, 2 cups of milk chocolate chips into a crockpot. This should be set on a low temperature for 2-3 hours, once finished mix in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of coarse sea salt. This recipe takes longer then most, but I can say it's a fan favourite in my house. I tried this out and everyone loved it, we even had leftover caramel sauce to top off the whipped cream on the drink, a 10/10 in my opinion.

Next I want to talk about my recommendations from Starbucks, specifically their fall drink menu. Without a doubt, my all time favourite drink of the Starbucks fall menu is their 'Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte'. I admit it sounds a little bit complicated but it really is simple. With a chai tea base (I like to subsitute the whole milk for oat milk) and a pumpkin flavoured cold foam on top, arguabley the best part about the drink. Another of my favourites is the classic 'Pumpkin Spice Latte', it's a classic, it's not fall without having at least one of these during the season. I will have to admit that I prefer Tim Horton's a little more than Starbucks, but never the less, you can't go wrong with this one. Lastly, another great use for the seasonal pumpkin cold foam would be to top off a cold brew with it! I get this on the days I need some extra energy. A 'Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew' is such an easy way to make a regular drink perfectly right for the fall season!
Tumblr media
I would definitley consider myself a beverage enthusiast, the fall being obviously my favourite time of the year for these comforting and delicious drinks.

The Easiest Way to Prepare Cannabis Butter at Home
Cannabis butter is a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be used in many recipes. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find in stores, and when you do, the cost can be high. The good news is that it's actually quite simple to make cannabis butter at home with minimal effort.
In this article, we will discuss the easiest way to prepare cannabis butter at home and provide some tips on how to get the best results. So, read on and learn the secrets of making cannabis butter for delicious edibles!
One important thing to remember before getting started is that you will need a supply of high-quality cannabis buds or medical marijuana in order to make good-quality cannabis butter. The better quality of your starting material, the better your end product will be. Once you have gathered all of your ingredients, you are ready to begin!
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
- 7 grams of cannabis flower
- 1 cup of butter
- 1 cup of water
- A cannabis grinder
- One nonstick baking sheet
- One stovetop pot
- A thermometer (optional)
- Cheesecloth
Step 1: Decarb the cannabis
To activate the beneficial cannabinoids found within the cannabis flower, the flower must first be decarboxylated or "decarb." "The decarbing process is a chemical change that converts the THCA to THC," explains Katie Stem, extraction expert, and Peak Extracts CEO.
If you skip this step, your butter will be much weaker. There's a chance that some of the THCA will convert to THC during the slow melt process of the butter, but you'll lose a lot of the beneficial cannabinoids if you skip the decarb "activation" step.
Here's a quick and simple method for decarbing your flower:
1. Prepare your cannabis flower by grinding it. Make use of a grinder designed specifically for cannabis. You'll end up with a coarsely ground herb.
2. Preheat the oven to 230–245 degrees Fahrenheit. 240 degrees is ideal for my oven, but it also depends on the age of your oven and how evenly it cooks.
3. Arrange your ground cannabis on a nonstick baking sheet. A nonstick baking sheet that has not previously been used for cooking food is preferred. If you only have a food-safe pan, cover it with parchment paper to protect the cannabis from any residue on the pan. This also aids in the prevention of sticking.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Steep on the stovetop
After you've decarbed your weed, heat the butter on the stovetop and start infusing.
1. Melt together 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of water. The water will aid in the even heating of the butter. In the end, any water that does not evaporate will be removed. Use 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup butter, and 1/8 ounce of cannabis for a half-batch.
2. Turn your burner to the lowest setting. The butter should be cooked at 150 degrees Fahrenheit, with a maximum temperature of 200 degrees. A cooking thermometer can assist you in determining the exact temperature.
3. Mix in your decarbed cannabis. Put a lid on the pot. This aids in the distribution of heat, which is ideal for a low, slow extraction.
4. Simmer for at least three hours at 150°F. If you want a more potent butter, steep it for four hours, but make sure the temperature is at its lowest. If you choose a longer cooking time, you may want to add more water because it evaporates and leaves the butter vulnerable to overheating. To avoid burning, stir occasionally.
Alternative methods: Double boiler or crockpot
Both of these methods aim to balance and stabilize the temperature of the butter, preventing it from becoming too hot or burning during the process.
For the double boiler method:
Simmer 1 cup of water in a large pot for the double boiler method. One cup of butter and cannabis in a glass or metal bowl on top of the pot. Cook for three hours. Maintain a close eye on the water level in the bottom pot and refill it as needed.
For the crockpot method:
Combine the cannabis, water, and butter in a pot. For three hours, set the crockpot to 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3: Strain your butter.
After three hours, and your home is filled with the faint aroma of cannabis mixed with butter, strain your mixture.
1. Cover a jar with several layers of cheesecloth. Use a rubber band to keep it from slipping while you strain. If you don't have any cheesecloth on hand, coffee filters will suffice. For this step, a standard metal food strainer will be too coarse.
2. Slowly pour the butter through the cheesecloth. Allow enough time for it to drain so that there is no overflow. You can discard or compost the spent weed once it has been thoroughly strained.
3. Allow it to cool. After 30 minutes at room temperature, transfer it to the refrigerator.
4. Drain any excess water. When it's cool and solidified, you should be able to see the butter on top and a thin layer of water on the bottom. Pour the water out of the jar with care. Hold the butter in place with a clean finger or utensil to prevent it from slipping out.
Step 4: Have fun!
Your cannabutter is now ready for consumption. To make dosing easier, cut it into small, uniform pieces. Cannabutter can be substituted for butter or oil in almost any recipe.
Because it is so potent, start with a small amount of cannabutter until you find your tolerance level. When dosing cannabutter for recipes, mix it with regular butter. You can always add more cannabutter or eat more edibles, but you can never take it back. Slow down.
How to store cannabutter
Store your canna butter in the fridge in an air-tight glass jar.
A sealed mason jar works well. The canna butter stored in the fridge should last 3 to 4 weeks. You can also store it in an opaque or dark glass jar. Light exposure degrades cannabis over time, so any opaque jar or covering will extend its life.
You can also freeze cannabutter if you really want it to last. Freezing cannabis does not degrade its effects and can extend the life of the cannabutter up to six months.
Always smell older cannabutter. If it smells rancid, don't eat it.
Canna butter is a versatile ingredient that can be used in many dishes. Following these simple steps will help you make perfect canna butter every time. Keep in mind that depending on the recipes, the temperature and cooking time may vary, so always read instructions carefully to ensure the best results. With some patience and love, you can easily make delicious edibles from your own cannabis-infused butter at home.

Christmas dinner! Honestly, the only reason to celebrate any holiday (to me) is the delicious food. We used to do a duck, but the roommate is having issues with fatty proteins, so we did something that they would enjoy without later misery.
From Scratch Mashed Potatoes Wash, chop, rinse enough red potatoes (or another thin-skin variety) for everyone. Don’t peel. Thin skin in potatoes is tasty. Boil with salt, drain. Add anywhere from 1/2 stick to a full stick of butter to the pot while the potatoes drain. Add the potatoes on top. Smish. Add milk until creamy and keep smishing. Add parm cheese until dry and keep smishing. Add sour cream until creamy again and keep smishing. Serve.
Cranberry Sauce 1 Bag Cranberries 1 Cup Water 1/2 up to 1 Cup of Sugar, depending on what you want. Boil everything together. Serve.
Sweet Mashed Potatoes I cheated on this one, the roommate made from scratch marshmallows. Gods know how. 1 Small Bag of Sweet Potatoes. Peel, chop, rinse. 1 stick of butter. Throw half in the bottom of a small crockpot. Throw the potatoes in. Throw the other half over them. 1/2 Cup of sugar on top. Run everything in the crockpot on high until the potatoes are buttery soft. Smish. Pour everything into a pan without burning yourself. Cover with marshmallows if you want. Broil for 2-3 minutes. WATCH THE DAMN THING LIKE A HAWK so it doesn’t burn. Serve. Lemon Garlic Asparagus 1 Bag of Asparagus. Feel along the stem, applying a little pressure, until it snaps. The bottom is woody and fibrous; the bit you just found is where the tasty starts. Oil a coupla big bits of tinfoil. Put the asparagus(eseseses) there. Sprinkle with garlic and oil. Add a coupla lemon slices on top, as thin as you can make them. Close up the packets and bake at 400 for about 20 minutes (15 if they’re alone, but they were cooking with the bacon).
Dilly Mayo Baked Salmon Oil a baking sheet. Put the salmon down on it skin-side down. Get the other half of the lemon and squeeze the juice out. Throw enough mayo in until it’s thick enough to hold its shape. Add as much dill as you want (in our case that’s a lot, which is why I grow dill. Can’t go broke if you grow yours!). Stir until smooth. Spread on salmon to cover. Bake for 20-40 minutes, depending on the size of your salmon. Test a thick corner with a fork; if it flakes, it’s good to go.

recipes, Fandom Wank, racism?
So at some point in 2007/2008, I found a thread of like... idk what was going on exactly. I think someone was talking about racism in the context of Fandom Wank, and then other people started butting in posting recipes. I saved the recipes, then at some point got annoyed by all the garbage in between them and copy pasted the whole damn thing, figuring I'd go back later and cut out the irrelevant posts and organize the recipes.
15 years later this lil old RTF has what I assume someone will call a goldmine look into the past.
So here it is. The entire thing. You'll see that at the beginning I separated out the recipes and then stopped bothering. I very honestly didn't look at all the comments so WARNING you might see shit you didn't want to see. But yeah. Also screen reader friends you probably want to skip this cuz there’s a ton of just like, written out html stuff. Okay here you go:
From F_W 1/1/07 http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1041982.html?thread=141665342#t141665342

"Why the hell is my paycheck two days late?!" soup (digigirl132)
~1 pound of some sort of cut up/ground up meat (hamburger works best, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand) ~1 pound or 1 1/2 pounds veggies of your choice (if you like broth, go with the first. if you like stuff, go with the second) ~1 can diced tomatoes (optional) ~6-9 cups water (depending on how much broth you like) ~1 bayleaf ~2 bullion cubes for every 3 cups of water (you beef for cow meats, and chicken for any other kinds of meats.) ~a dash of garlic ~a dash of salt ~a dash of pepper ~a dash of whatever other seasonings you like
STEP ONE: Fully cook meat in a frying pan. STEP TWO: Add water, veggies, tomatoes, bullion cubes, and bayleaf to either a crockpot on high or a "noodle pot" on 6. (I forget what they're really called, but they're the really big pots that are freaking impossible to lift if they are full of water) STEP THREE: once the water is bubbling a little (but not full out boiling), turn the heat down to low on the crockpot or 1 on the "noodle pot" and add the cooked meat. Add seasonings. STEP FOUR: Let cook for an hour and a half, stirring every ten minutes. STEP FIVE: Eat soup.
This recipie serves 6-8 people. The name tells you how my family discovered this recipie. ^_^

Race Wank? In Who Fandom? It's just as likely as you'd think… As Whomageddon rolls on, [info]doctorwho brings us another sterling gem. Or rather, two bright turds of wank, coupled together to form a synergistic pile of perfection.
First, [info]cringer1982 shares that he's written a very pointed letter to the BBC about how they have portrayed Asians in their recent episode Turn Left. He neglects to mention that he's white as the fresh driven snow. Irish, in fact.
BBC officials respond with a letter that has nothing to do with anything.
Some people don't see his point.
[info]myfavouriteplum is just as mad at Turn Left, but being Chinese, with an appropriately Chinese icon, people seem to be taking her protests a little more seriously.
Hilariously, seriously in fact.
It was a bit like if they had "Planet of the Africans" and had people dancing around with spears and singing "Mammy". Do. Not. Want.
Also, the anon meme continues to be offended by everything.
Who wank, I just don't know how to quit you.

[info]tarash 2008-07-03 08:46 pm UTC (link) Good thing: The guy sends a letter/e-mail of complaint to the people responsible for Doctor Who. While I'm sure the racism debate on LJ and other fannish circles does a lot of good in that it makes people think about character portrayal and all that, those essays and discussions aren't going to change the show. So, good on the guy to complain to the actual people responsible for the things he found offensive.
Bad thing: Well, like the anon meme said "LET'S PLAY FUNNY/NOT FUNNY
FUNNY: FANDOM_WANK NOT FUNNY: RACISM
SEE THE DIFFERENCE?"

Chicken Alfredo Lasagna Roll Ups
Tumblr media
These chicken alfredo lasagna roll-ups can be prepared in several different ways are freezer-friendly, and quick to clean up! This one of the few recipes that everyone in my house enjoys, so we eat them twice a month!
This recipe makes two pans - one for now & one to freeze! Each pan contains 9 rolls. My youngest two eat one roll a piece and the rest of us eat two.  Ingredients:
- 1 lb of chicken breasts (roughly 3 chicken breasts)
- 1 box of lasagna noodles
- 1 large jar of alfredo sauce
- 4 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
- seasonings of choice (oregano, basil, garlic, parsley)
Instructions:
1. Cook your chicken however is easiest for you. I throw it into the crockpot frozen, pour 1/3 of the jar of alfredo sauce on top, and add in seasonings like garlic (½ tbsp), basil and oregano. I let it cook on low for about 6 hours until the chicken is done. You could also bake the chicken or buy a rotisserie chicken to really speed it up!
2. Prepare your lasagna noodles according to the box. I cook the whole box at a time knowing that a few noodles will rip. The box normally has 20 noodles and I need 18 to make 2 pans. I rinse them in cool water so that they’re easy to roll up.
3. Shred your chicken in the alfredo sauce it cooked in (or add it if you didn’t cook it in the sauce). Mix in 2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
4. Lay out a lasagna noodle and add a large spoonful of the chicken/cheese mixture at one end. Roll it up and place it seam-side down in an 8x8 baking pan. Keep doing this until you fill your baking pan with 9 lasagna roll-ups. Repeat for the 2nd pan.
5. Pour 1/3 of the jar of alfredo sauce on top of each pan. Then top each plan with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. I like to sprinkle parsley on top.
6. Bake immediately at 350* for 30 minutes or store in fridge and bake for 40 minutes.
To freeze: cover with foil and store in freezer for up to 3 months. Bake frozen at 350* for 30 minutes covered and 20-30 minutes uncovered. Or thaw overnight and bake for 40 minutes at 350*.
We like to have it with homemade garlic bread ($1 loaf of italian bread with butter, garlic and italian seasoning). I bake it during the last 10 minutes of the lasagna roll-ups.

CB’s Nihari Recipe
Easy Slow Cooker Nihari (Pakistani Beef Stew)
This Easy Slow Cooker Nihari recipe takes less than 30 minutes of prep time but does not compromise on the authentic taste of this traditional Pakistani Beef Stew! Layers of flavor in every bite!
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 8 hours
Total Time: 8 hours 30 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
Whole Spices
1/2 piece of a small star anise
1-2 small bay leaves
1 inch piece cinnamon stick
Ground Spices
2-3 whole cloves ground into a powder using a mortar and pestle
2-3 green cardamom pods seeds removed and ground into a powder using a mortar and pestle
1/2 tsp fennel seeds ground into a powder using a mortar and pestle
1/2 tsp paprika powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/4-1/2 tsp Asian red chilli powder or cayenne
1/4 tsp crushed red chilli flakes
1/4 tsp black pepper powder
1/8 tsp garlic powder (optional)
pinch nutmeg
1/2 tbsp Nihari Masala Powder
Nihari
1/3 cup canola or other neutral oil
1 tbsp ghee or butter
1 large onion thinly sliced
5-6 garlic cloves crushed
3/4- inch piece ginger crushed
1 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
1/4 cup atta flour or corn starch
4 cups water
1 lb beef stew or shank pieces - about 1 1/2 inch cubed
Garnishings
crispy fried onions
1 inch piece ginger julienned
1 lemon sliced
1/4 bunch fresh cilantro chopped
1-2 green chillies chopped
Instructions
1. Heat a medium pot over medium-high heat. Heat oil and ghee and add the whole spices.
2. 1:01 Add onion and sauté until golden, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger and continue to sauté until the raw smell disappears, about 30 seconds.
3. Add beef and stir-fry for about 5 minutes or until it changes color.
4. Lower the heat and add the powdered spices and salt and sauté for about 20 seconds.
5. Carefully pour this beef mixture into your Crockpot or slow cooker.
6. Add the water and stir to mix. Cook on low for 8-10 hours (preferable) or high for 6-7 hours, or until the beef is fall-apart tender. Cooking times will vary depending on your meat and slow cooker.
7. Toward the end of your cooking time, remove your whole spices and take out a cup of the liquid of the Nihari into a bowl. Let it cool a little by adding an ice cube to it. Place the atta in another bowl. Bit by bit, add the atta to Nihari liquid to form a smooth slurry. Slowly add this slurry back into the crockpot while stirring to prevent clumps. Let it cook for another 30-45 minutes. Serve hot with the garnishing and naan or sheermal.
Notes
*If you do not add the pre-made nihari masala, adjust the quantity of the other spices per taste. **Traditionally, atta is used to thicken the curry. I highly recommend you use it for an authentic taste. For a gluten-free option, see notes!
