I gotta say I did not expect I’d love Miles this much, enough to look up shit like Secret War and Civil War II reading order, and worse, subject myself to Bendis’ writing of all things (he’s the reason why I stopped being a comic stan 5 years ago. I were a DC/ Superfam fan. You know the beef was BEEFING). Like, my tolerance of that dude now only stops at him being one of Miles’ creators. So that better writers can do the kid justice years later. That’s it.
Like, why is the “r u and Ganke together haha” a whole shtick that comes up multiple times during his run? It’s so annoying and painful to read. Miles can go around being paired up with different girls but the moment THAT question came up you know he gonna be super defensive and >:( about it which, eh, just does not line up with anything else happening in whatever story is happening at the time. At all.
The only silver of light is that Miles actually never says he doesn’t like boys, he just denies ever dating Ganke. Like, he could just say he doesn’t swing that way and the question would have stopped, but he doesn’t. So I know he be running around kissing the punk-est boy in the whole spider verse, ha!
Idk I’m near the end of Bendis’ run and some of it r good but a lot of them put me thru excruciating pain (cringe) so I have to complain about it.
Did I mention I were a DC stan 6 years ago? I were a DC stan 6 years ago so this isn’t even my first rodeo with white dudes writing weirdest things in American comic, but I just can’t believe I got dragged into this again because Miles blinks his bambi eyes on screen and makes me want to rotate him in my brain so I need to know the lore of him in every medium, apparently.

Me> [struggling to unravel a very annoying UI bug]
My brain, entirely unprompted> H E Y. IF JAHEIRA HAD USED SOME MORE MINOR VERSION OF THAT RITE OF THE TIMELESS BODY ON RASAAD TO EXTEND HIS LIFESPAN, IT WOULD RESOLVE THE MORE FINICKY TIMELINE ISSUES ABOUT RION BEING THEIR KID.
Me> ...ok? I didn't ask right now but thank you for working that out I guess.

Would the human pets be capable of basic tasks like washing their clothes or preparing food? I can see some pets knowing how to prepare food as like, a fun little party trick to impress others, but as a basic survival skill I don't think it's commonly taught to humans anymore. There's most likely a line drawn between pets that are helpful and reliable, and pets that are too capable, to the point where certain owners may feel threatened by their level of intelligence and independence. I wonder just how helpless the humans would be without their aliens.

Also, vaguely related to the last post: I do think sometimes ppl overstate the like. Importance of religion/Christian culture when writing about the Wittebane brothers-
(not that it's not a very strong element of the story that Philip is a critique of Christian institutions, but rather bc, based on what we know, both of them stopped holding explicit Christian values at some point during adulthood, if they ever really cared and weren't just witch-hunting for social clout/material gains like the reenactment in thanks to them shows. Philip only uses it as an ideological shield to buster his own notion of heroism, as in, he knows Christianity is Good but he can't be bothered to actually demonstrate it's values (like not murdering your brother) which fits with his primary metaphor as a colonist/modern conservative.(bc something something social norms and dominant groups and excuse to commit heinous crimes you know are heinous but are apathetic towards) and uh. I think it's safe to say Caleb wasn't super concerned about things like sex w/in marriage when he was already bumping a supposed 'servant of the dark' (Evelyn, my faceless darling beloved). Okay, tangent over)
-but I will be the first to admit that, as an ex-catholic, sometimes applying a twisted version of the imagery associated with Christianity to a story about murder and betrayal fucks severely. even if I don't think it would hold great significance to Philip as a person/character if he were to creepily hum "oil in my lamp" as he lights the ring of fire that he and Caleb have their death match in (he's sooooo culturally Christian who considers himself an enlightened atheist on Reddit core)...the idea and how it'd look to us as an audience? Based.

seeing as ATSV Hobie has no specified age, I think he can rightly be considered any age between that of the teens (Miles, Gwen, Pavitr, Peni) & the adults (Peter, Jess, Miguel, etc.) according to what a person feels best suits him and/or their fanwork. anyone blowing a gasket over their own personal age headcanons for him not being enshrined in fandom as law needs to just take a fucking chill pill & get over it (I'm looking at you TikTok.)

evil gun batman future timmy - one of them anyway - had an official grown up height and i forget what it was exactly but it was like. 5'7ish. and i think that was just from tim eyeballing it so imo that means he was that tall WITH his evil gun batman height enhancing lifts. he has little guy syndrome syndrome of being a little guy

to this day i think it's stupidly hilarious that they tried to make us believe Candice was the victim in the situation when her relationship with Jon paralleled Ally's relationship with Jon-El

i really need to draw khan and emmet hanging out bc they would be such buddies. ingo hates how quickly they bonded bc khan took one look at emmet, at how excited emmet is to battle, and seemed to Immediately like him (it only bc khan had already bonded w ingo, but like hell will he ever admit that. that proves he has emotions! he has to hide those.) khan & emmet battling each other. khan takes over for ingo sometimes on the multi trains except he and emmet get so into battles that they need a chaperone to keep them from getting too rowdy bc somehow (???) they've managed to destroy a couple of train cars??? khan challenges the subway himself (he battles using himself but also his pokemon. he'd rather battle using himself, but ingo and emmet get awfully concerned when he faints so he stops doing it so much). khan and emmet discuss battle tactics (khan insists "offense is the best defense" and "go balls to the walls immediately on attack" and emmet argues for better strategizing and well rounded move pools) and help each other train, offering suggestions and tips and "hey, let's try this maneuver" or "i think it would be better if you did this move first".
not that they don't enjoy an off day, but they definitely bonded well over battles.

Bc I’m so obsessive…
… I present, analysis of Peter and Neal’s age difference for no purpose other than my own justification.
Basically, Neal is the closest to having a confirmed age. He goes into witness protection at about three, runs away at the age of eighteen, he shows up in NY eight years before the plot, and in s4, Mozzie says that Ellen made the tape thirty years ago. This makes sense, bc presumably Neal would need some time to forge those bonds and get to NY after running away, so it puts him at about twenty eight to twenty nine at the start of the series (yes, it does mean Matt Bomer was playing younger than his age, but he’s one of those people who can get away w/ that).
Meanwhile, Peter has been in the FBI for at least ten years, married to El for twelve. We know he first met her when her when he was fairly new to the field. Presumably they dated for at least year before he proposed, and then there was some time before the actual wedding. We know he has a BA in accounting at least, but from the way they talk, it’s a good guess that he’s got a Master’s, too (you need more than a BA to work for a Fortune 500 company). I can’t remember if they said it was his first case that he met El on, but we may need a little bit of padding for that, too, and there may have been other pauses in between these events. You have to be at least twenty three and at most thirty six to apply for the FBI. Assuming he went to all that school, he probably wasn’t twenty three… We also know he spent time as a baseball player, which I don’t think they give dates for, and probably wasn’t while he was in the FBI, and if he was minor league enough to have a card made, it would have been fairly serious… And when Peter has to go undercover as Neal’s father, he acknowledges that he’s ‘much older,’ which I doubt he’d say if they were only five years apart or something. It still makes sense to me to interpret Peter as being somewhere in his mid forties at the start of the series, and not just bc that’s how old Tim was.
As a result, that put him as at least ten years older than Neal, probably a bit more. No, it’s not enough for them to be biologically related, but they’re not that close, and even if it’s not as common as babies, older kids are adopted all the time by parents not technically ““““old enough”””” all the time. Especially given Neal’s unconventional history, it’s definitely enough for there to be an experience/maturity gap.

yeah Mr Arakawa would kick Sohei’s ass. Seriously HOW is that man Daigo’s father and how did that boy grow up to be better than Masato
there aint ever One Precise Reason as to why a kid'll turn out a certain way: despite the odds daigo grew up a generally-respectable adult while masato grew up to be a spoiled brat.
but regardless we should all say Lmao

what were murdoc's texts about 2d..............
idk why but this was such a pain in the ass to find ANYWAYS i originally participated in the free murdoc event on my now deactivated facebook account so i can't see the messages i received personally but this was the one i had in mind
amongst a couple other things that were less important and probably just murdoc being an ass in a sort of affectionate way. add that to the fact that 2D was acting rly weird during the now now (likely because it was his first time being without murdoc in literal years for more than maybe a couple days + some bullshit confusing gorillaz lore bc nothing can ever be simple) and some of the lyrics that came out of the now now, an album written by 2D...fruit moment. i wouldn't call myself a 2doc shipper for obvious reasons but i would also have to be literally ignoring all the signs throughout years of lore to not pick up on how codependent these two are or the fact that murdoc absolutely loves 2D (and his other band mates) but literally doesn't know how to show it thanks to his entire life being filled with abuse by his loved ones

hi im complaining about tiktok again and i know this has been said a million times but i despise how the self-censorship that got really popular on there is quickly becoming the norm. why is my podcast that i listen to that is by and for adults and swears regularly censoring the word "sex" in its episode descriptions on spotify, a platform where they dont even censor officially uploaded song titles for songs like "fuck the pain away." why are there book blurbs using "unalive" completely in earnest. why are people on twitter writing s3x. youtubers can at least handwave having to bleep terms like "heroin" bc that's specifically a youtube problem but why in an era where everyone is handwringing about how everything is Literally 1984 do people not seem to care about grown adults gleefully regressing into homestuck typing quirks and ugly babytalk
