Whether canon provides input on them or not.
The first Adventure season is very adamant about making sure that the viewer identifies Sora as the "mom/big sister" friend of the group. This becomes mostly apparent when she is consistently protecting and/or taking care of Mimi and Hikari - but also Takeru. As I had pointed out in the post about the family angle between Sora, Yamato and Takeru, the latter functions as a bridge between the broken family dynamics they all appear to have at this point. Since Takeru is the youngest member of the group for the majority of the season, he is the most vocal about Sora basically being a motherly figure - which is even more blatantly stated in the English dub version where he straight up tells her that he doesn't "miss his mom so much" when she is around. And it makes sense that he perceives her that way, considering how she took everyone under their wing, including him, functioning as the voice of reason to prevent the others from fighting - especially when his brother is involved -, supporting them in the back however she could. And since Sora herself is struggling with her own sense of obligation, questioning her intentions and ability to love - is it really surprising that, the moment someone like Takeru finally reassures her, tells her that he likes her and doesn't want her to disappear, she immediately stops crying? Finding her composure again, regaining her positive outlook?
Both Sora and Takeru need validation, this becomes quite clear and is an ongoing theme between them through the course of Adventure - there is a reason why Takeru immediately becomes more serious and determined once Sora (and Taichi too) tells him to take care of and protect Hikari. He craves to be needed, he doesn't want to be a burden and actually being trusted by someone like Sora (and Taichi, again!), someone he greatly admires, is a huge boost for him. Maybe even the central motivation he needed (aside from Yamato's reassurance) to not give up, to "fulfill his responsibility", on his way to let Angemon evolve to HolyAngemon. Just like Takeru's words may have been a little stepping stone for Sora to activate her own Crest as well...
After Adventure, there aren't a lot of visible cues that indicate the same/a bigger level of closeness between these two (even taking into account that Sora and Yamato had been dating through the course of 02), but there are little tidbits here and there that do indicate care between them. It's when Takeru protects her from a Snimon attack in 02 (once again showing that he is responsible and protective!), it's when Sora calls him to ask whether he is okay in Tri (still showing off her caring attitude towards him!)...
One might argue that all of these framings are entirely familial, since there is so much focus on the family angle, especially when you keep the age gap of three years between them in mind. However, the reason why I chose the screenshot(s) above may indicate another meaning after all... Because similarly to my previous Daiora analysis, people tend to mainly focus on Sora's romantic potential with Taichi and Yamato - even though there may be other candidates who are potentially just as - if not more - emotionally compatible with her...
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
A famous callback Tri pulled on Adventure is the awkward silence between Sora, Taichi and Yamato in the fourth movie - mirroring the scene in which Sora runs away from the group, unable to tell them why she wanted to be by herself and why she considers herself "unable to love". In Tri, both Taichi and Yamato are at a loss, they have no idea how to deal with her. When they were still kids, all it took was for Takeru to approach her, thank, reassure and tell her that he "likes" her - which is probably why Yamato's instinct as a teenager at this point seems to be the following: "Shall we ask Takeru?"
Takeru, as opposed to his big band leader brother, has a so called "ladies-man-persona" in Tri, he's got a reputation of having dated several girls and appears to be very friendly with Meiko, much to Hikari's jealousy amusement. However, romance is not Tri's strongest feat - and just like we never learn whether or not Jyou's girlfriend is real, we also don't know what exactly Takeru has been doing all this time. He's famous for wearing a mask consisting of smiles and one may or may not be worried about him developing unhealthy dating habits that never result in long-lasting relationships....... OR we stop assuming the worst and take things at face value for once: Takeru Takaishi is a very kind person at heart, and even if he hides behind a mask, has a very big soft spot for reassuring girls around him.
Do you know who also has a soft spot for reassuring others while hiding their feelings behind a mask at times? Sora Takenouchi. They are both incredibly observant of the people around them and very keen to put them at ease, mostly through words - and just like we have seen above, they NEED that kind of validation. It's why Takeru notices that Sora got a new haircut and points it out to her, whereas his brother hadn't seen it at all. It's why Takeru tries to keep track on everything that is happening, not only because he's on his way to become a novelist, but because he cares and even if he probably still can't be honest about his own feelings - he knows that it doesn't hurt to notice and compliment others, he knows that he can make others feel good by being kind like that. Just like Sora is proooobably aware that her caring nature may not be the healthiest self-care approach, but at least puts smiles on everybody else's faces.
Again, this may not sound like the most stable foundation for a relationship, but I could actually see it working out for them. I'm not saying that I want them to "parent each other", but maybe together, they could reach a state where everything gets a little bit easier. Crying together, opening up to each other about how difficult it had been to always uphold that friendliness because they may have felt responsible, even if there were moments when they both would just have wanted to curse and scream... They both love their friends dearly, but may crave to allow themselves a shoulder to lean on. From someone who understands the struggles. I think it could be a great lesson for both of them as consenting adults, trying to live their own lives - having Sora tell Takeru that he doesn't always have to be the strong one to keep everyone together, that he is loved for who he is and that he won't be left again (because his abandonment issues may still be pretty strong). And simultaneously having Takeru tell Sora that she needs to look in the mirror to realize that she deserves to be loved for who she is as well (especially because her flight instinct might still be pretty strong). And that she deserves someone who actually TELLS her that...
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
I had thought about Takeru as analogy to Yamato before, simply because he is so much more vocal towards Sora. And while the age gap and mother angle may make things a little bit difficult and even though I had never thought too deeply about the romantic side of Sokeru... I can understand why they used to have their niche here on tumblr. Art of Takeru protecting Sora for once ("I am not a kid anymore!"), art of him letting loose in front of her... The appeal is definitely there and I am a big fan of mutually reassuring ships, so while I usually go for them platonically, I do have a bit of a fondness for their romantic potential now! So it would be nice to see how their relationship may pan out in canon in "the future".

From my understanding the new voices for the four 02 characters in Kizuna ended up very well received - especially Daisuke. Do you happen to know how the Tri voice cast was received in Japan?
From what I remember, it was about as good as you can expect. Voice actor changes done when the original voice actor is still accessible tend to be inherently controversial (even with the 02 quartet, they still were), and at the time, it wasn't formally revealed that Fujita Toshiko had actually been approached and declined due to poor health (it had to be kept a secret at the time on her request, which, according to Seki, put the tri. producers in a really awkward position). But most people were able to figure out what happened just by logical inference: some of the voice actors had retired, and the rest were swapped out for "consistency", especially since the Digimon voice actors were retained while the kids' were the only ones changed out. Some people did argue that "you could have at least gotten the ones that weren't retired!", but I think most people got it.
So, putting aside the people who were trying to stage a boycott over it or something:
I know Tamura Mutsumi's performance as Koushirou was particularly well-praised (this was before she ended up becoming super famous in the industry, since she's now really popular), and because of that quite a few Digimon fans were thrilled to hear her as Hiro in Ghost Game. It's probably the tri. performance I've consistently heard the most praise about, including even rave reviews from people who otherwise disliked the series itself.
There were people who said that Hanae Natsuki's timbre for Taichi was too distracting (on top of him not sounding much like Fujita at all, he was already a really famous voice actor by that point, so everyone recognized him as "Hanae Natsuki" too easily), but even those people all said that his actual acting ability as Taichi nailed his personality very well.
Hosoya's Yamato also got good reviews, which is interesting because he was also already a famous voice actor by this point, but I think it's because his timbre already enough in common with Kazama's that it didn't feel too weird.
Ones people were kind of iffy on were Mimi (although this also had a relationship with the way she was written in tri., I noticed people had fewer issues with her in Kizuna), Takeru, and Hikari (this one may be partially because both voice actors ended up breaking out into the industry shortly after in very different kinds of roles). Although this one I admit there might be some bias; I personally also think these were the ones that feel closest to miscasted to me, so maybe there was some confirmation bias from me noticing when others talked about it...
While we're here, in regards to the 02 quartet, Daisuke (especially Daisuke, dear goodness) and Miyako are generally well-received, but people tend to be more iffy on Ken and Iori. In the case of Ken, though, when you have the incredibly legendary Park Romi as his original voice actress, and when his new voice actor is Lounsbery Arthur who has his own distinctive voice, reputation, and fanbase, I think you were inevitably going to get some kind of complaint of uncanniness in some direction somewhere...

Hatter | Takeru Danma & Morizono Aguni x Male!Reader
Tumblr media
⚠ Pre-Borderlands AU ⚠
- Takeru Danma x Male!Reader and Morizono Aguni x Male!Reader because why choose when you can date both :) !!
- summary ; being friends with Aguni and Takeru was great, but you were hiding the biggest crush on them. at least, you thought you were. the two clearly knew, they just didn't say anything or let you know they knew. but when you're late to meet up with them, they knew something was wrong. that's when they get a call from the hospital, and are told you've been in a car crash. they arrive only to meet a doped up (y/n), who definitely doesn't have a filter.
- A/N ; I have no knowledge about Hospitals, everything here is either made up or I looked it up (i.e. hospital name.. kinda just looked up the best rated hospital in Shibuya). Also reader is around mid-late twenties, Aguni is 36 and Takeru is 41 (Took these ages from an article, pretty sure its just the actors ages but honestly I like it for them :)). Please enjoy, and feel free to request something. If I like it, I'll write it to my best abilities! Also.. there might be mistakes idk i barely proofread :)

Takeru and Aguni were hanging out at Takeru’s Hat shop, humming softly as Aguni tried on hats while Takeru leaned against the door frame. He was watching the people walk and looking at all the cars. The two were waiting for (Y/N), who was coming back from a week long trip with his family— his family’s idea and not his, (Y/N) said. So (Y/N) texted them a bit ago saying that he was driving over. That was 30 minutes ago, so he should be here by now. “Has (Y/N) texted you?” Aguni asked, glancing over at his friend. Takeru pulled out his phone, which already had (Y/N)’s contact open. Nope. Still his message that said he was on his way. “Not yet.. Maybe he got stuck in traffic?” Takeru muttered, before he suddenly got a call from an unknown number.
He pulls away and walks over to the counter, leaning against that as he answered it. “Hello?” He asked, humming softly as his hand rested against the edge of the the counter. “Yes, Hello. Is this Takeru Danma?” a female voice asked on the other end of the voice. He raised an eyebrow as he made eye contact with Aguni, glancing at him “Yeah this is he, can I ask who this is?” he said.
“Yes. I’m calling from Yoyogi Byoin Seishinka Day Care. Our patient (Y/N) (L/N) was in a car crash. He listed you as his emergency contact.” She said calmly, and Takeru’s eyes widened— gripping onto the counter. “(Y/N) was in a crash-?” He asked, as Aguni’s eyes widened as well and walked over closer to Takeru. “Yes sir. He was stable enough that he requested you come instead of his family. You and.. a Morizono Aguni— his secondary emergency contact.”
Takeru closed his eyes, calming down his heart “Yeah. We’ll be right there” He said and shut his phone off. “What’s wrong? (Y/N) got in a crash?!” Aguni asked quickly, and Takeru started closing down the shop. “Yeah, Lady said that we’re listed as his emergency contacts. He wanted us to come instead of his family” He said as he grabbed his hat from Aguni and put it on him. “Us?” Aguni questioned, and Takeru called for a cab. “Yes! Us– We can ask him about that later. Right now, we need to get it Yoyogi Byoin Seishinka.” He said and the two got into the cab that pulled up
They arrived at the hospital. Takeru rushed in, Aguni just right behind him as they walked up to the front. “We’re here to see (Y/N) (L/N). I’m Takeru and he’s Aguni.” He said quickly. The lady nodded, “Yes, I spoke to you on the phone. He’s currently getting situated but you can see him in a moment. But he will be on pain meds, so he won't be all there.” She explained, and Aguni sighed but nodded. “C’mon, lets go wait.” He said, grabbing Takeru’s arm and they walked to the waiting room.
It was probably over an hour they had to wait. Aguni was leaning against the chair, arms crossed as he watched everyone. Takeru had his hat lowered slightly but he was doing the same, his leg bouncing and hitting Aguni every so often. Both worried out of their minds for their friend. They both were thinking the same thing, realizing how quickly the younger male wormed their way into their hearts to make them this worried.
“Mr Takeru and Morizono? Mr (L/N) is ready to see you, but he is under pain medication right now.” A Nurse -said and both men stood up quickly. “Uh yeah, we were told.” Aguni muttered but the two followed after the Nurse.
They arrived at (Y/N)’s room and the Nurse knocked on the open door. “Mr (L/N)? Your friends are here to see you.” she said as she let the two walk in, before leaving. (Y/N) was lying in the hospital bed, with a few cuts and bruises on his body and face, but otherwise he was fine. There were also bandages wrapped around his bicep. His eyes lit up “Mori! Takeru! You made it!” He said, giggling softly as he leaned forward and reached out for him. Aguni stepped forward and put a hand on his shoulder to push him back, “Hey.. Careful. You might fall..” He said softly, and (Y/N) just smiled up at him. Takeru pulled up a chair to sit next to the bed by his side, “Hey Kid, how are you feeling?” He asked. (Y/N) frowned, “Y’know I hate it when you call me that… ‘M not a kid” He said and crossed his arms. Takeru just laughs softly, “Right.. Right. Sunshine, how are you feeling?” He asked.
He grinned, “Everything used to hurt, but now it doesn’t! And I get to see my two bestest friends.. and crushes. But Shh” He said, covering his lips with his finger. Aguni just raised an eyebrow as Takeru laughed again. “Hey, (Y/N). I was wondering. Why were we listed as your Emergency Contacts? Why us and not your sibling or your parents?” Aguni asked, tilting his head.
(Y/N) thought for a moment before humming. “Because I’d rather the two people I care about most to be by my side.. I mean yeah my sib would be so worried but.. Dunno about mom and pops. Want you guys..” He mumbled and eyes flickering up to Takeru- then Aguni. His breath hitched as he heard that, but (Y/N) quickly smiled again. “Mm.. sorry I got in a wreck. I know we were supposed to hang out today.. Some asshole ran the light and ran into me..” He muttered and closed his eyes.
“Don’t apologize for gettin’ in a fuckin wreck Ki- (Y/N). Wasn’t your fault.” Aguni said and Takeru hummed, “Y’know what? I’m gonna go get us snacks. I’ll get your guys’ faves, so don’t worry '' He said, getting up and winking at Aguni before leaving. Aguni watched as his friend left, confused but he took his spot. (Y/N) turned and looked at him, laying back on the bed. “I’m.. glad you guys came though..” He muttered and Aguni gave a small smile “Of course we would. Like you said, we’re your friends. And we care about you too..” He said softly, to which (Y/N) blushed and smiled. He reached out and grabbed Aguni’s hand, and started playing with his fingers. Aguni was surprised by his action, but he didn’t pull away.
(Y/N) sighed softly, “Mm.. I wish it was as my boyfriends though. Not as my best friend” He admits quietly, and Aguni choked on his spit for a second, before clearing his throat. “Oh.. yeah?” He asked quietly. (Y/N) giggles and pulls his hand close to his lips, looking up to meet Aguni’s gaze and kisses his knuckles “Mhm.. Don’t you guys know that I fell in love with you two? Could never choose, I like both of you.” He said, “But that’s still a secret.” He muttered, eyes fluttering slightly and yawned.
Aguni cleared his throat, “Get some rest okay?” He asked quietly and (Y/N) whined softly, “But.. What if you’re gone when I wake up? What if this was a dream..” He mutters. Aguni chuckles and leaned forward to kiss the top of his head, “Don’t worry. We’ll be here when you wake up.” He mutters before pulling him and his hand away. (Y/N) huffed but started immediately falling asleep from the drugs. Aguni stared down at him before he heard a shuffle behind him, turning to see Takeru standing in the doorway. He was holding up his phone, clearly recording the interaction with a snack bag in his hand.
“Your cheeks are red, by the way Mori” Takeru said with a cheeky grin as Aguni’s face reddened more, glaring as he walked over to take his phone but Takeru pulled it away. “Nuh-uh! This is going in the vault. (Y/N) was adorable, and a cheeky lil thing. I mean, kissing your hand? What a bold move, and you liked it” Takeru said with a grin, but there was a hint of slight jealousy— and Aguni caught it. He smirked, “You just wish it was you.” He said and walked past him back to the waiting room. Takeru followed after him, cheeks heating up ever so slightly as he called after him, “Hey! Come back here!”
It was a few hours, but Aguni kept his promise and they stayed for the whole time. Mostly they talked with each other but then the Nurse came back, “He’s awake, more level headed and asking for the both of you again” He said, and both of them got up- Takeru leading the way once more as they walked into the room. “Oh- Hey guys” (Y/N) said with a slight wave. Aguni just nodded at him, still thinking about earlier. Takeru grinned as he sat down and held out his hand. Aguni coughed as he looked away and (Y/N) furrowed his eyebrow, “What.. the fuck are you doing?” He asked. Takeru just quirked an eyebrow up and hummed, “What? I just expect equal treatment. If you kiss Aguni’s hand, do you not want to kiss mine?” He asked.
Aguni coughed harder this time as (Y/N)’s face went red “what?” He managed to get out and Takeru hummed. He pulled his hand away only to pull out his phone, showing only the clip where (Y/N) grabbed Aguni’s hand and kissed his knuckles, making eye contact. “Are you saying that you favor Aguni over me?” Takeru pouts, as Aguni groans. “Takeru..” he muttered. But (Y/N) just grumbles, grabbing Takeru’s wrist holding the phone and pulled it close.
He took Takeru’s phone out of his hand and made eye contact with him, eyes squinting slightly as he pulled his hand close and kissed his knuckles. But his face was extremely red despite his casual attitude to his actions. Takeru grinned widely as (Y/N) let go of his hand. He leaned back, turning to Aguni and holding up the back of his hand. “See? I got one too” He said, and both Aguni and Takeru rolled their eyes
(Y/N) just smiles and shook his head, “Anyways.. Thanks for coming guys. I.. I appreciate it.” He said, and Aguni nods. “Of course, we’re friends.” He said, and Takeru nodded, “Yeah. We care about you.” He said, making (Y/N) blush. “Once I get out of here, can we head get some Ice Cream? I’m really craving it.” He said, and Takeru barked out a laughter. “Yeah (Y/N), we can get some Ice cream.” He said.

Case 7 - Sunbursting Justice!! (part one)
[AO3 version!!]
The number of the digimon partnerships was increasing year-by-year -- Current number of partnerships by the year of 2008 was up to 8,100 in total around the world. Those people could be already in touch with Taichi and Daisuke’s groups, via the online network or simply by a local contact. And with this, the idea of that detective club only made things interesting (besides the caper with Arsenemon).
But… There’s mean-spirited Chosen Children and Chosen Digimon… And there’s the ones who think they are doing the right thing, but not realizing they’re just part of the problem.
“Yo,”
This student is the popular Youta, but he’s most known by ‘Soleil’ because of his zodiac sign being Leo… And because he has a very nobility-like behavior.
“Hm?”
“You’re… Motomiya Daisuke, am I correct? You looked a little more taller by what the others told me about you and your stories.”
But, if there’s ONE flaw in Soleil… It’s that he cannot stop being a sassy smug kid. Not in the bad sense -- This kid definitely talks what is in his mind without thinking of the consequences. And with this…
“A-are you making fun of me!?”
… He made Daisuke his biggest enemy in the school.(not that Soleil disliked Daisuke, but Daisuke is… Daisuke, and he takes everything seriously…)
“I can’t stand that guy!” Daisuke pouted and crossed his arms. Takeru and Hikari looked at each other and then to their friend. Their digimon were also looking at Daisuke and frowning, “He’s always making me mad! Stupid Octo-head!”
“Octo-head… you mean…” Takeru decided to try talking with him, “Soleil, right?”
“Yeah, his head is octopus-shaped to me.”
“At least he’s nice” Hikari sighed, “But he’s insensitive sometimes…”
“Anyway, has anyone checked the website?” Tailmon interrupted their discussion, “It’s a little while since we got a case to solve.”
“Oh that’s right…” Hikari took her phone and opened the website, to find a little request there “Ah! We got one!”
“Really??” Daisuke approached her, the digimon and Takeru too and they all read the message on that tiny screen.
“… ‘Please stop my brother from using the digimon for scams, I don’t want him to get arrested’ …?” Takeru read the message, “Should we help this kid?”
“What kind of scams do they mean?” Daisuke raised an eyebrow, “If it’s something we get in real legal trouble…”
“We should help them” Hikari ended the discussion with a serious tone of voice, “You would do it if it were your older siblings, right?”
“H-hey, Hikari-chan,” Daisuke frowned, “O-of course..! But is there anything about Taichi-san--”
“No, Taichi wouldn’t use Agumon for scams! I mean, a little brother is asking for help! We must do something!”
“She’s right,” Takeru added with a nod.
“... If you say so, then let’s do it,” Daisuke then looked at the username of that person, “Huh… I think I know them…”
“Do you?” the others asked.
“Yeah, the person who sent it is the little brother of a former Odaiba middle school soccer team member. His name’s Koh, and his older brother is Touya. I didn’t expect to hear that Touya is doing scams… That must be a misunderstanding…”
“Oh… The guy who you were always talking with at soccer practice?” Takeru blinked.
“Yeah, his partner is a Monzaemon. Koh’s partner is a Sunmon.”
“Sunmon?” Takeru and Hikari repeated.
“Well, let’s hear the story directly from Koh. Something seems fishy here…” Daisuke said with a serious voice, “Ah, can you contact Ken, Miyako and Iori for me, guys? If we get in legal trouble we will need everyone in.”
“I don’t understand, what kind of ‘legal problems’ Daisuke means?” Patamon blinked.
“The kind that could need Miyako, Iori and Ken’s abilities to get us out.”
After school… Some high schoolers were mocking a small elementary student for having a goofy digimon and not something cooler like Imperialdramon or Wargreymon. Her partner was a little Kunemon. Oddly, none of those three high schoolers seemed to have a partner.
“I hate injustice.”
Soleil said to himself, clenching his fist. He walked there nonchalantly and tried to dialogue with those ‘brats’.
“I don’t think you should pick a fight with her because of a Kunemon, since their usual nature is quite feracious.”
“B-but Kunemon is not a bad digimon, he’s my friend!”
“Yes, I know. But your digimon might do something wrong and I can’t watch this” he smiled, an honest and warm smile.
“What are you? A digimon researcher?” an older girl from the trio made a snarky remark, “You seem too pathetic to deal with this business, nerd.”
“Yeah! Bet her Kunemon evolves into a Numemon!” said a boy from the trio.
“I’m sure Kunemon could evolve into something fascinating and according to this girl’s deepest wishes” Soleil tried to stay calm, but those ‘idiots’ were not helping at all, “Mind you, people without a digimon shouldn’t be allowed to discuss anything related to those creatures.”
“Huh?” the second girl there stared Soleil with a murderous glare, “Then, where’s your digimon, Octo-head? You’re all talk but no bite!”
“...” he clenched his fists again.
“What?” the first girl said in a mocking voice tone, “Did you get scared, octo-punk?”
“What did you call me…?” he gave them a terrifying glare, “Say it again and you might wish to never have picked a fight with us.”
“Um, mister… I…”
“Please sweet young girl, take you and your Kunemon away from here…” he smiled again to the young duo, “I’ll take care of them.”
“R-right…!!” She took Kunemon from the ground and ran away.
“Hey, what are you gonna do? Call for your parents?” the trio kept mocking him, “Octo-head!”
Soleil cracked his knuckles, and smirked at those people, “Come at us, you trio of punks”
“You keep blabbin’ ‘us’ and it’s just yo--”
Suddenly, a big shadow appeared behind Soleil -- A bipedal beast-man digimon with a giant mane and flames coming from the parts of his armor and the end of his lion-like tail.
“Oh, I meant me and my digimon after all. Do you have a death wish or will you cease your insults against any digimon and their partner?” he didn’t drop that smirk, he was pretty sure this is what he believed to be justice.
The trio screamed in terror, and they ran like it was the end of the world. Soleil looked at his partner, who devolved back into a tiny and nice Lion-like digimon -- Coronamon. He softened and gave the digimon a pat.
“Thank you, my buddy.”
Daisuke, Ken, and Iori went to talk with Koh after school, knowing that he probably would be free to chat. Iori also knows this kid, because they attend the same school, yet from different classrooms, so he was instructed to hold Koh for a bit.
Koh is also a goggle boy! But the whole issue with his brother made him less excited to wear his precious goggles, as they were Touya’s gift and he liked to wear them to show how cool his big bro was!
“Ah, Daisuke-san!” Koh grinned at the other two boys coming.
Then, once they gathered up… Koh began explaining why he asked for their help:
“Big bro Touya is… Doing something bad. He’s using Monzaemon for scams, and when I tried to stop him, he said it was for our family’s sake. He’s not like this, I heard him talking with someone on the phone… I think their name was Eigen…”
“Hmm,” Upamon squinted his eyes, “That doesn’t sound cool…”
“Touya was a cool guy back when we were soccer teammates” Daisuke agreed with a nod, “I don’t believe he’s doing it on purpose!”
“When I heard Daisuke-san was part of a detective group I had to ask for help… Please, stop my big bro!”
“We’re gonna to stop him and this Eigen person too! Right guys?”
“Yeah!! /Yes” Ken, Iori and the three digimon detectives replied with determined glares.
Sunmon, who was too silent, just floated in front of the trio-and-their-mons and nodded, with a squeaky child-like voice, they said “Thank you!”
“More importantly,” Ken said, “do you know what kind of scam your brother is involved with?”
“It’s a little stupid but… Lovely Therapy”
“Lovely… Therapy?” they all repeated.
Of course. It was a scam and just by looking at this name they had spotted the fishy part. As expected… If the police got involved, Touya would also get arrested for being Eigen’s accomplice. Now how to help Touya without letting the police know?
Soleil and Coronamon spotted Daisuke, Ken and Iori going to the karaoke bar and caught them talking about… Something something ‘Lovely Therapy’, and he sent a message text to someone with his phone.
> I need you to check out something for me. -- Soleil.
The team gathered, Daisuke slammed his hands on the table in the center of the booth:
“I need to ask you a favor! On Touya’s behalf.”
“Huh?” Miyako blinked, she almost spat her non-alcohol drink.
“You have to check this… ‘Lovely Therapy’ business-thing for me!! I want to know what it is, where it is and how much it costs. I can’t let an ex-soccer teammate be involved in something fishy!”
“What do you plan to do with those, Daisuke(-san)?” Ken and Iori asked, quite sure this would mean a plan was in the works… And they should just help to prevent Daisuke himself from messing things up.
“We will catch that Eigen person! I’m sure that person is forcing Touya to do those scams!!”
“Well, true but you need to not do something…” Takeru intervened, but now was trying so hard to use a word that does not sound harsh.
“... Stupid” Ken completed the phrase, being quite honest (as the usual) “If you’re thinking more than your usual, please stop right now.”
“H-hey…!!” Daisuke frowned, “H-how can I do something stupid--”
“When you’re like this, you usually don’t think twice and do whatever comes first in your head” Ken sighed, “We know that. I know that because of a certain thing I did to you in the past.”
“Oh… Ya mean… We should psycho-torture that person using Touya’s like that?”
“... W-where did you get that!?” Ken snapped.
“I think he meant ‘psychologically’,” Iori clarified.
“It wasn’t what you did to me in the past?” Daisuke asked innocently, “That thing… You got the Bakemons to pretend to be our friends, and then you tortured me until I decided to sacrifice myself for those Bakem--”
“I know that!! And please I’d like to never do that ever again” Ken babbled, it was one of the things he was ashamed of. He regretted accidentally giving Daisuke that idea when all he wanted was to explain that he knows how Daisuke cannot function well under pressure.
“We could… put a hidden camera and then record the scammer confessing his crimes…” Hikari suggested, with a serious and cryptic tone of voice.
“Oh, that’s a good idea!” Armadimon nodded.
“But we need someone to set the camera up, right?” Wormmon asked with a bit of concern.
“Someone able to be fast and cautious” Patamon and V-mon then looked at Hawkmon and Tailmon.
“Huh? Me?” Hawkmon blushed, “I could do that, but Shurimon got no… hands.”
“Yes, I can do that” Tailmon nodded, “Maybe Shurimon can help to set it up in a place I can’t reach alone.”
“Then that’s settled!” Daisuke grinned, “We will make that Eigen confess! I’ll talk to Touya tonight!”
Daisuke learned which high school Touya was attending thanks to Koh’s details, and he and Ken went there the next day. But the moment Daisuke offered his and the 02 Team’s help…
“Sorry, Daisuke I can’t…”
Touya’s answer was negative.
“Dude, I’m sure that person is using you!” Daisuke insisted, “We got a plan… We only need your help so we can catch the bad guy.”
“Eigen-san is not a bad person…” Touya’s voice was wavering, he then took a notebook and wrote something in it, unattached the page and crumpled the page, tossing it on the floor, “He’s just helping me. There’s nothing wrong with him. I’m sorry but I need to go, bye.”
And he left. Daisuke frowned once again, “Man… I don’t believe that he’s tellin’ the truth..!”
But Ken noticed a few… hints dropped by that kid -- One, he wrote something on the paper and tossed it. Two, his voice was wavering. Three… He noticed something eerie watching them.
“Uh, what’s this?” V-mon grabbed the paper and Ken gently took it from V-mon’s hands. Something was written there… But maybe they shouldn’t unfold the discarded page there.
“Daisuke… Let’s go to my house” He said, “I’d like you to try Wormmon’s newest tea blend.”
“Huh? Well, Whatever…  We can’t do anything here…” Daisuke shrugged.
They left.
At the Ichijouji’s household… Wormmon poured some of his favorite tea blends for Daisuke and V-mon.
“Why do ya want to drink tea right now Ken?” Daisuke pouted.
“Chamomile tea helps to relax, and you need a break,” then, Ken took from his pocket the paper Touya had tossed away and unfolded it, “And because it was just what I suspected.”
“Huh??”
Ken showed the paper saying: ‘Can’t Talk. I’m being watched by’ and an acronym with ‘GRAND’ in it.
“Um, what means ‘Grand’?” V-mon tilted his head.
“Possibly the reason he couldn’t talk to us” Daisuke mused, “Right?”
“Yes,” Ken nodded, “Which means, this case is a little trickier than we thought.”
“...!!”
Ken’s phone rang, he answered it and heard Miyako’s voice on the line: “Ken-kun, I’ve got something for the case! I sent it to your email address.”
“Oh that’s good news. Daisuke is with me, so I will show him what you found and report to him.”
He gestured to Daisuke grab his laptop in his room and the other boy understood. Daisuke went to Ken’s room, carefully took the laptop and put it on the dining table. Ken turned it on and waited until the OS finished loading to then access his email’s inbox. Miyako’s email was right there with details. Daisuke, V-mon and Wormmon went behind Ken’s chair and looked at the screen.
“Nice job, Miyako!” Daisuke grinned, of course that was her specialty after all!!
“With this, we only need to gather the ‘GRAND’ keyword hint and we will help Touya-san, right?” Wormmon asked.
“Right!”
“I’ve thought about how we can help your friend, Daisuke,” Ken said with a smug smile. He was really confident about his abilities right now, “So listen carefully.”

Dreaming To Reality: Oneiromancy Chapter Twenty Eight - 11
“What-!?” Yamato blurted out in surprise.
“What the hell are you doing here!?” Taichi demanded.
“I belong here as much as you do,” Cassandramon said, not lowering her gaze.
“Wait, what?” Takeru blinked at that.
“This is my temple,” Cassandramon said.
“Your… temple?” Sora repeated slowly.
Takeru opened his mouth to say something when he stopped. In the back of his mind, a bell went off. A conversation from long ago - or certainly felt like ages had passed - came to mind. “Wait. Mystimon… when we asked him about who owned this temple, and the temple that has the altar for Hope and Love, he said it was ‘no one important’.”
“He did, in fact, say that,” Cassandramon agreed.
“So he was talking about you?” Yamato pressed. “You’re ‘no one important’!?”
“Yes,” Cassandramon said, her voice devoid of emotion as always. “I am no one important.”
Taichi stared at Cassandramon, dumbfounded and open mouthed. “How the hell is someone who can see the future supposed to be ‘no one important’?!”
“I can see the future, but I cannot control it,” Cassandramon replied as she finally lowered her gaze to look at Taichi. “All I can do is see how others bring that future into reality. My actions have no direct influence.”
“I mean, you seem pretty capable of controlling it indirectly,” Yamato said as he crossed his arms. “When you show up, what you say, what you do… isn’t that influencing it?”
“I am influencing you, yes,” Cassandramon replied. “But only within my ability to do so. I can anticipate, or hope, that you will respond a certain way, but the choice is ultimately yours.”
“Wait, but… can’t you see how we’ll respond?” Taichi asked as he scratched the back of his head.
“I can see how you might respond,” Cassandramon said as she blinked her lower pair of eyes. “All possibilities, some more possible than others.”
“Wait, so it’s not just one future?” Takeru asked.
“For example, this conversation had multiple possible outcomes,” Cassandramon continued, as if the boy hadn’t spoken. “The moment you saw me, several things could have occurred. You could have just as easily chosen not to speak to me, charging your Digimentals while snubbing my presence. You could have chosen to leave and charge your Digimentals another time, wary of what mischief I might bring.”

Wings (Shinkenger & Goseiger & Kiramager)
-Sequel of Drabble 9: Sparkle
“You know, I think you would like Juuru-kun.”
Takeru perked up slightly at what Alata casually said. “Who?”
“A kid who’s a regular at my cafe…and Kiramai Red.”
That got the lord to blink. “Are you sure?”
The angel chuckled and placed a cup of green tea before his friend. “Whenever he is here, he’s always drawing on his sketch pad and saying the phrase ‘Hirameking’.”
“Among the Kiramagers, their Red is also prone to using a sketch pad to make gems come to life from his drawings. And he also has an unusual catchphrase too.” Takeru slowly said, remembering what he learned about the Kiramagers when they first showed up on the Super Sentai scene.
  “Exactly.” Alata grinned.
The doorbell rang as it opened, and Alata shifted to serve his new customer before breaking into a wide smile when he saw who it was.
“Welcome Juuru. You’re going to take your usual?”
“Yes, please. Thank you, Alata-san.” Juuru beamed at the angel in disguise and went to his usual table to get his drawing kit out.
From the bar, Takeru watched him with mild interest. Kiramai Red was young to be the leader of a Sentai, yet had a passion for his hobby that stood out among all else, evident by how enthusiastically he was drawing on a fresh page.
Alata excused himself to bring Juuru over his drinks and spoke to him briefly. When he returned, he gave Takeru a pointed smile. “There is also one thing you should know. Juuru’s imagination can rival Right’s.”
The lord caught on to what his friend was saying. To this day, not a lot of Super Sentai could understand exactly how the Toqger’s Imagination works, save for the Kyoryugers and Niningers who worked with them before and got a good idea of what it is. But what Takeru understands is that its concept is not dissimilar from their Mojikara. They were able to bring what they imagined to life just as the Shinkengers brought what they wrote to life. Granted, it was an oversimplification of Imagination and Mojikara, but he was not interested in the debates of the powers that some Super Sentai Teams have in addition to their transformation abilities.
   “Done!”
Takeru nearly jumped at the exclamation that came from Juuru. Alata shook his head and gently called out, “Juuru-kun, could you please lower your voice?”
Realizing what he had done, the teen turned bright red and sheepish. “Sorry, Alata-san.”
Alata merely smiled fondly and went over to give Juuru his drinks. When he did, Takeru raised an eyebrow at his friend’s slightly shocked expression when Juuru showed him what he drew. Alata blinked and said something to him. Juuru tilted his head and nodded, carefully tearing the drawing out of his sketch pad and handed it to him.
The moment Alata returned to the bar, he showed it to Takeru.
The first thing that caught Takeru’s eye was how well done the drawing was of Alata in his cafe uniform (certainly miles better than Alata’s), then he saw the wings sprouting from Alata’s back.
He slowly looked up at him with a slightly shocked look. “Does he know…?”
“He once asked me if I was a secret guardian angel because I love helping my patrons.” Alata shrugged. But he could not hide his awe at the drawing. “I think that his Kiramager ability subconsciously perceived me as a Gosei angel, that’s why.”
Takeru shook his head and glanced back at Juuru. Their successor was unique indeed. And he wouldn’t mind meeting him officially after the Kiramagers are done with their fight.

On the Road Again
Word Count: 1290 (one chapter)
[AO3]
Genre: Family/Fluff
Pairings: Judal/Hakuryuu, Paimon/Hakuei, Gyokuen/Hakutoku
Characters: Ren family, Judal, Yamato Takeruhiko, Paimon
Summary: Modern AU, Everyone Lives AU. The Ren family gets together for a trip. Hakuryuu wonders whether it's a good idea to stick all of them in an RV for several hours.
~0~
“Wouldn’t it be nice if we were older?
Then we wouldn’t have to wait so long
And wouldn’t it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong?”
- Wouldn’t It Be Nice, The Beach Boys
~0~
At first, Hakuryuu had been staunchly opposed to the idea of taking a family road trip. Hakuyuu, in his more diplomatic way, had voiced some concerns as well. However, their father had quelled their objections — well, most of them — simply by unlocking the door to a three-bedroom RV. He had to hand it to Dad: he didn’t build an international real estate empire by not knowing how to bring together a gaggle of squabbling and clashing personalities.
Hakuei had already been halfway there, and hearing Paimon’s squeal of delight when she showed her the floor plans on her phone had sealed the deal for her. Hakuryuu had been similarly convinced when the official “significant others are allowed” rule had been announced. Hakuren had already been in, because he had zero ability to anticipate conflict or risk to himself, which had been half of convincing Hakuyuu. The other half had been promising him the steering wheel for the majority of the trip.
Their mother, of course, had been convinced the second Hakutoku opened the door to the wine fridge.
“Are we there yet?” Hakuren moans, sprawling out on his bunk while Takeru sympathetically pats his shoulder, his voice drowning out the low babble of Worst Cooks in America from the wall TV.
Hakuryuu, looking up from the dining table, thinks that his brother could stand to be a little bit more flexible, seeing as they had expanded that “significant others” rule to include “bro roommates” specifically for him. He might say so, but as usual, he’s spoken over before he can even open his mouth.
“Hakuren, my sweetheart,” Gyokuen drawls from the passenger seat, absently turning the stem of the empty glass in her hand, “you are thirty years old.”
“I’m too used to flying! I forgot how long a three hundred mile trip actually is...”
Hakuei gently adjusts Paimon, who had fallen asleep on her shoulder about thirty miles ago, so she can turn from the TV to smirk up at her brother. “Well, if you don’t like it in here, maybe you should have gone with Kouen and everybody? Or, even easier, just taken a ride with Aunt Arba?”
There’s a beat of silence as all four siblings seriously consider that, flashing back to their high school driving lessons with chills up their spines, and then burst out laughing at once.
“Huh?! What’s going on?!” Paimon yelps, startled awake by the noise.
Taking up as much as he can of the booth next to Hakuryuu, Judal reaches across the table to grab an apple from the fruit bowl and tosses it at her, grinning. “We’re appreciating that we haven’t been driven off a cliff yet, keep up.”
Gyokuen’s lip curls, and she leans over to uncork a new bottle of white wine. “Hakuyuu, darling, floor it, will you? If my sister really is going to meet us all there, I’d like to have at least a few hours of peace up at the house first.”
Hakuyuu just keeps smiling, turning the wheel carefully as they make another turn around the mountainside. “Not a chance. Remember what Dad said? We’re all relaxing if it kills us and the drive counts.”
Gyokuen rolls her eyes. “All right. But just don’t expect me to be nice to her, even if throwing a punch is off the table.”
“Don’t worry, we don’t. I don’t think she does either.” Looking over his brother’s shoulder, all Hakuryuu can see right up to the horizon is a sea of deep green pine trees. Through the window open a crack above his head, he can smell them, too. “It could be worse, Mother. Your father could have figured out where the vacation house is.”
“Oh! Don’t even say that!”
Takeru raises an eyebrow. “Is this David guy really that bad?”
Judal snorts and gestures next to him with a half-eaten peach; he seems to have claimed the fruit bowl as his personal serving dish. “I was there at the last Christmas party he crashed a while back. He put Hakuryuu’s arm on top of the tree.”
“What?!”
Hakuryuu stretches out in the booth around the table, pointedly scraping one metal heel on the floor and flexing the stiff fingers of his prosthetic arm. “Hakuyuu and Dad helped me get it down and put it back on. Mom, Aunt Arba, and Uncle Solomon were too busy grabbing the swords off the mantle and chasing him back to his car.”
“Ugh,” says Paimon, joining Hakuei, Hakuren, and Takeru in a collective shiver. “What a piece of work.”
“You don’t know the half of it. But, silver linings: that was the year Kouha taught me to play Uno to distract me,” Hakuryuu says, pulling the deck in its well-worn box out of his jacket pocket. “By kicking my ass at it, I might add. Anyone want to see if I’ve gotten any better?”
“Before he cleans us all out at the house, you mean,” Hakuren grumbles. “All right, we can go a few rounds before I switch with Yuu.”
“Hakuren, I’m all right—”
“We’re going to stop, you’re going to take a fucking nap, and you’re going to like it,” says Hakuren brightly, without looking at his older brother. “Takeru, you in?”
Takeru is already scuttling down the ladder to the loft, while Hakuei and Paimon turn off the TV and make their way to the table. Hakuei looks over to the front seats. “Mom? How about you?”
Gyokuen watches the six of them squeezing into the booth with a critical eye, then sighs and rises from the passenger seat, half-full glass in hand. “All right. But if any of you leave me holding half the deck again you’re out of my will.”
“I’ll take that risk,” Hakuryuu says brightly. He, Hakuei, and Paimon scoot the few inches they have left to scoot so she can take a spot at the end of the booth, trying very hard to look dignified while trying to balance herself on the edge.
Hakuren shuffles and deals out the cards with professional flair; Hakuryuu has always enjoyed the sound. On his left shoulder, Hakuei sits up deliberately straight, gaze fixed on her own hand so as not to catch an accidental glimpse of his or Paimon’s cards. On his right, now that all his space has been taken over, Judal is slumped against his whole side like an oversized cat, eyes shamelessly flicking to the hands of anyone who leaves their cards unguarded.
The window is still open, but no one suggests shutting it to protect against the wind. Hakuryuu’s glad: he likes the fresh air, the way the sunlight plays on all their faces and makes their eyes even brighter than usual.
It’s good. Plain and simple. He’s known since he was little how to count his blessings.
His limbs have been lost. His face has felt flame. But Hakuryuu has never once been unsure of his footing. He has never known a life where he could not reach out for help and have his family grab his hand tight. The idea that a world could exist where not only was he too full of fear and hatred to reach out at all, but that nobody would be there to catch him if he did, is inconceivable to him.
Right now, Hakuryuu’s world narrows down to the cool mountain breeze teasing his hair, the scent of pine trees and the purring engine, and the chatter of the people he loves most all around him.

Liya’s Top Five Otoge
Tumblr media Tumblr media
notes: I realized I once promised to do otoge reviews and completely forgot about it until now, so here’s the top five otoge that I love and why. A lot of the ones on this list tend to be sort of angsty… but most of them have a happy ending!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Dandelion -Wishes Brought to You-
Tumblr media
Available On: Steam
Favorite Characters: Jieun, Jiwoo
This is Cheritz’s first game, and the first otoge I ever played! I have a soft spot in my heart for the wonderfully developed protagonist, Heejung, and it was a joy to see her grow over the course of the story. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed the romance and overarching plot. Each character was charming and memorable (with the exception of Jiyeon...), and had a fun dynamic with Heejung. There was a certain mysteriousness to the world the love interests came from because we never learned too much about it; a dreamy, almost fairy-tale like quality that made it feel more real to me than if we had gotten an exposition dump. However, the game is a bit rough around the edges, and the gameplay mechanics get tedious quickly. I also wish we had gotten to see more of the love interests interacting with each other. Overall, I love how earnest and sweet the game was, and I definitely shed a few tears over the course of my playthrough.
4. Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly
Tumblr media
Available On: PS Vita, Steam
Favorite Characters: Monshiro, Kagiha
This game was definitely the highlight of the summer I first played it. The format is a bit different from other otoge, utilizing a flowchart to help you make choices and a shooting minigame, which I found rather neat. I also liked the ability to read short stories in between the main story, though sometimes it felt too tedious to be forced to read them to progress the main. The art is gorgeous, and the characters and their relationships with each other were well-developed and nuanced. I loved getting to find out more about everyone, and the fact that Beniyuri (the protagonist) was voiced was an excellent feature. This is a mystery and tragedy before it’s a romance, which I thought fitted perfectly with the sort of story it wanted to tell.
3. Cafe Enchante
Tumblr media
Available On: Switch
Favorite Characters: Il Fado de Rie, Canus, Misyr Rex
Cafe Enchante might be billed as a cute, slice of life game where you run a cafe, but it’s an unexpected tearjerker that left me sobbing after several routes. I have a fondness for all of the characters, because they were all sweet, well-developed and likeable. Their dynamics and interactions with each other was top tier as well; I love that they were friends, and felt like a family! I have a fondness for the protagonist, Kotone, and I liked her characterization. The side characters were absolutely wonderful, too! The common route ended up being way longer than the individual routes, something I didn’t find fault with because I enjoyed seeing how everyone interacted. However, I did wish we could have had more time with the characters individually. Additionally, though I loved the true route (something I normally never do), I found the ending to be somewhat disappointing, and it left me with a bittersweet taste in my mouth. Overall, a top tier game!
2. Collar x Malice
Tumblr media
Available On: PS Vita, Switch
Favorite Characters: Kageyuki Shiraishi, Takeru Sasakuza
Collar x Malice balances romance and a good story, and it does so well! The pacing was excellent to develop both, and both the core cast and the supporting characters were endearing and a joy to watch. Ichika is one of the best protagonists I’ve had the pleasure of playing as, and I love that she has her own personality, friendships and struggles outside of the main story and romance. I enjoyed the mystery aspects of the game, and piecing together the answers! I think the questions the game poses about justice and law, and sin and crime, were all interesting to consider, even if I don’t necessarily agree with every conclusion the game arrived at. Overall, it’s a beautiful game, and I enjoyed every minute I spent on it.
1. Code: Realize
Tumblr media
Available On: PS Vita, Switch, PS4
Favorite Characters: Saint Germain, Victor Frankenstein
If you’ve read this far, congratulations! To any seasoned otoge player, I doubt my choice for my top otoge is any surprise. Code: Realize was one of the first otoge I’ve ever played, and it deserves every bit of praise that it gets. Cardia is such a strong and well-written protagonist. I loved her growth throughout the game, and how she was given the sort of agency other otoge protagonists don’t have. The overall plot was brilliant, and I love how every route tied together and built up the overarching mystery. The true route was great, but it definitely felt like it was used as a vehicle to tell the plot instead of letting the romance breath on its own. Besides that, every character was lovable and had such great chemistry! I have a deep fondness for all of them, and I bought both the fandisks for Code: Realize because I wanted to see more of everyone’s adventures together. Even writing this review has made me want to replay Code: Realize, and all the other games on my list, as well!

Tumblr media
genre — angst, fluff (?) warning — mentions of death, grief words — 2,124
Tumblr media
notes — it is 3:07 am, and i don't want to come up with a synopsis so, i shan't <3 this is my first writing post,, so uhh, please give me criticism !
violet chrysanthemum — unbearable pain at the thought of losing a loved one white chrysanthemum — reserved for sympathy and remembrance lyra — a constellation, which you can read more about here !
Tumblr media
hugging his knees on the pavement, oikawa tooru couldn't help but overhear the faint chitter of loved ones greeting each other, serving as a reminder to why he was lamenting in the first place. a combination of heavy sobs and pleas of a miracle, he had grown used to, yet he still found the letters engraved on the cold stone in front of him almost foreign.
the anniversary of your death was fast approaching. caught in the fast lane of change, tooru has experienced almost every stage of grief. almost.
he remembers a shade of reddish brown framing your corpse. a metallic odour accompanied by tears burning every inch of his face, creating a sickly feeling in the back of his throat, which only multiplied as he released his frustration in the form of bargains.
' if only's ' and ' what if's ' his brittle voice had echoed — temporary truces, in which he begged and pleaded with every god and goddess known to the universe, in an attempt to negotiate his way out of this harsh reality.
from denial to anger, and from bargaining which soon melted into his current state of stark numbness in your absence. the past seemed more alive than the present.
stationed on the 4th, hazy reminders of a once living past seemed to obstruct his path of progression leading to the 5th and final phase of this grieving process that must inevitably follow. acceptance.
tooru is a competitive man. on the court, he is capable of adapting to new environments, examining their playing style, studying each and every player in a matter of seconds and having the ability to draw out their strengths — thus, blending into the team as if he was apart of the original line up.
yet, surrounded by this atmosphere of sorrow and anguish, he stuck out like a sore thumb. even after scrutinizing how others had dealt with this profound feeling of misery, their so called 'methods' were in vain, and he continued to suffer.
his fear of being second best, he now had no chance of overcoming. because as if in a race, tooru was exasperated, struggling to catch up with everyone else.
even the stars are lonely, but at least there were a multitude to keep company, and he couldn't help but envy them. your family, friends, hanamaki, matsukawa, hajime, even takeru had accepted the fact that you were gone, as they smiled fondly, memory sweet with you.
tooru could not remember the last time he smiled — a genuine one, that is. one that isn't plastered on when prompted with the constant ' how are you holding up? '. one that creeps up to his eyes to resemble a crescent moon. one with familiarity and love. one because of you.
the setting sun bathed everything in shades of lavender, painting the flowers propped beside your grave a colour he had wished they were. telling a tale of many consecutive days spent in this location, they bloomed brightly and never wilted away for they were regularly changed with a newer, hand picked bouquet. today, the flowers hadn't the ability to mock him, for today was different.
earlier, under what he thought were unfortunate circumstances, he was left stricken by the lack of purple petals accessible. left with no other choice, he let his fingers fumble along those coloured as snow instead. however, opting for these flowers proved to be difficult, as he realised he was breaking his routine.
because the shadow of the past still hung over, his fear of being second best soon morphed into a fear of change. a fear of everything changing. again, while he still had not adjusted to his scars wounded by time. it was nearing a year since tragedy struck. a year since that decisive moment of change.
but due to a sudden yet short lived act of bravery, tooru chose to cease sewing the seeds of habit, and as of right now, he found himself laying these flowers in their accustomed seat atop the gleaming stone. stems slightly compressed due to his secure grip, but petals remaining untouched. although both were chrysanthemums, the previous batches had been violet, and the current were white, simple as.
it is only when his nephew appears in his peripheral, he is snapped out of his trance, plastering a soft smile to veil his conflicting thoughts. hardly a word is spoken between them as takeru gently places an article of clothing on his lap, then is soon walking off.
leaving tooru with more questions than answers, his eyes shift downwards and widen at the sight of his old aoba johsai uniform folded ever so neatly. at an agonizingly slow pace, his slender fingers start to inspect every nook and cranny of the oversized — on you, not him — jersey. he holds it gingerly for this specific piece of fabric is a memory preserved.
and like a bridge to the past, tooru finds himself traversing along the nostalgic path, illuminated by memories time seemed to have dimmed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as if the past is burned into his psyche, he still remembers the day you ignored him, well at least tried to.
though your actions were deemed fruitless, as you soon dropped your facade when he eventually caught up to you while you were walking home. mentally cursing yourself for your futile attempts at avoiding him, you had confessed that you were not in fact jealous, but curious as to why there were so many girls wearing his exact jersey. there was an attempt to stifle a laugh, yet one look at the stubborn pout on your face was all it took for tooru to burst out laughing.
"what is so funny?" you had tilted your head with a slight scowl painting your features.
impatiently tapping your foot, you waited for a response, but from his hunched figure and the smack! when he brought his hand to his knee was confirmation that his fit of laughter wasn't going to die out any time soon.
"oikawa" you had puffed, and the use of his last name was enough to get his attention, as he flicked an invisible tear off his face.
dramatically, with his hand latched onto his hip to form his signature stance, his free arm stretched out and squeezed your shoulders.
"they're not mine" he chuckled with a shrug and a smile — smug, yet genuine.
"listen tooru, i'm not dumb. you're the team captain right? the number 1's on the back practically mocked me!"
"may i ask, how many were there?"
"you mean how many were wearing your uniform? hmm i don't know, maybe every single girl i saw cheering?"
"yeah, and do you really think i'd have that many jerseys to give away? iwa-chan would be kicking my ass if i was constantly getting new jerseys!"
moments of silence passed and you figured that he was right, but your stubborn demeanour wasn't going to admit defeat that easily.
"i suppose that it would cost a lot of money, which you don't have, seeing as i was the one who had to pay for lunch yesterday. plus, you uhh, still seem as small as you were in first year so i assume you wouldn't need a change in size"
feigning a gasp, he clutched his heart and claimed that it was his turn to ignore you. snickering in response, he cupped your face and peppered it with kisses until he spoke up again.
"you know, ordering uniforms are pretty common for fangirls. buuut, you don't have to spend a single dime 'cause there's only one i'd like you to wear"
digging into his bag whilst motioning you to lift your arms up, he pulled out his aoba johsai jersey. he quickly put it on you and stood back, admiring how the cloth adorned you — no, how you adorned the cloth. this went on for a while, him staring at you in pure adoration, until his face lit up and he went back to fumbling in his bag.
"here! to fully establish that this is for you and you only, a limited edition, aoba johsai uniform, signed by the oikawa tooru" he beamed, placing the top of a permanent marker in between his teeth and biting the lid off.
his left hand found purchase on your waist as the other was in the midst of signing the front and back of your shirt with his signature. tooru being, well, tooru, he began to embellish the entire fabric in little hearts with ' tooru + y/n 's in large lettering, until he was interrupted by your arms outstretching and pulling him in for a hug. deciding against sulking about not getting to finish his oh so lovely drawings, he instead chose to reciprocate and nuzzle into your neck, basking in your warmth.
from then on, it was an essential garment to your outfits. yes, you were reluctant as the bright turquoise colour certainly did not match with everything, but ' you can pull off anything ' is what tooru had claimed. some fashion advice coming from the mf who wore plaid shorts <3
unlike the rest of your clothes in the closet collecting dust, it remained hung up on the handle, ready for use. from matches to study dates which later transitioned into sleepovers, he always complimented your attire in different ways as if it was your first time wearing it.
braiding his chocolate coloured locks, he lay on top of you, the back of his head on your stomach as he made an effort to mirror the rhythm of your breathing with every rise and fall of your chest.
after a lack of commentary, you noticed that he was not staring off into space, but rather the glow in the dark stars you had stuck up on your ceiling. deciding to take advantage, you extended your arm to switch off the lamp adjacent your bed, and while the light faded, the stars gathered overhead.
"oh - hurry up tooru, look! it's a shooting star, make a wish" you gushed, having one eye shut while the other awaited his reaction.
"come on now, you know i didn't bring my glasses with me today, hmph"
"no no, how does that saying go — you don't have to be able to see it to believe it! you're the one always saying those cliche quotes all the time"
".. angel, i'm sorry but this is all just a yellow blur to me. i really can't see anything"
huffing at his habitual use of endearment, you wrapped your hand around his wrist and straightened out his index finger to guide it towards the ' shooting star ' that had not moved from the centre of your ceiling.
"better?"
"much"
letting out a satisfied hum, you both closed your eyes, your conversation, but not your minds as they wished upon the faithful glints of gold which magnified the tranquility of it all.
you eased your grip around his wrist but he took this as an opportunity to interlock his fingers with yours. and with the stars winking from a pitch black sky, your wishes combined, and the soft squeeze of your hands, it was a silent promise that you would always be with each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
perhaps it was the flower's slight change in hue which resulted in this caprice of fate, because for the first time, he finds himself recalling positive memories rather than remnants of your death.
and for the first time, tooru accepts. the unknown feeling envelops him, yet it does so with open arms, a welcoming smile, and no judgement.
the way he allows his tears dye the turquoise clothing a darker shade, he recognizes that he is no longer under the false pretence that all is well.
he need not question why the corners of his lips subliminally upturn, because as as he clutches this jersey, it's almost as if he is clutching you once more.
while the last stars still fleck the sky, he thanks those lucky stars, for it is you there with him, and he finds solace in your presence.
but this time, tooru isn't afraid to let go.
by no means does he intend to let go of you, no — never. but to let go of the affliction, pain, and instead have regard for the past in preparation for the future. in preparation for change.
and with his damp high school uniform, his smile that is heartful, and the lyra hanging heavy in the eastern sky, they all begin to coalesce into his former self.
the tooru who is not a genius. the tooru who underestimates his own strength, the tooru who overcomes adversity. the tooru, whom you are in love with.
and with the knowledge, and most importantly, acceptance, that you are no longer here with him physically,
oikawa tooru knows that wherever he goes, there you are.

Oikawa Tōru: Childish Antics
Fandom: Haikyuu!! — [ Masterlist ]
Summary: Fluff, Flirting
• You end up collecting your neighbours son, Yuma, from Lil Tykes Volleyball and find the Coach to be more attractive than expected. Though, Yuma assures Oikawa won’t win the battle for your heart.
Warnings: Suggestive remarks, one swear word
>>>>——————————>
Tumblr media
"Please can you pick up Yuma  from Lil Tykes Volleyball Classroom today (Y/n), it won't take long."
Now you were beginning to wish you hadn't accepted this request, not only was it out of your way but you assumed now that you'd done so once, it'd become an ongoing thing. Either way, Yuma lived in your neighbourhood and you refused to let him walk home alone so you'd arrived early, thus catching the mini team play a practice match much to your amusement as you leant against the fence admiring the scene with a soft smile.
The coach was quite attractive you'd noted, and it appeared the children took a shine to him as they'd said their goodbyes - they each ran past you, still Yuma was nowhere to be found - most likely distracted.
"Can I offer my assistance in any way, to a beauty such as yourself?" A charming voice called, obviously confident in his abilities no matter how fake his facade seemed.
"No thanks, I'm just waiting for someone." You'd brushed him off so effortlessly, a trait he'd found utterly intriguing - if you were at a volleyball club then you should know who Oikawa was. If not then surely his looks were worth a second glance at least?
"(Y/n)-sama!!!" A youthful voice screamed, running over to you in sheer delight and clinging to your waist.
"(Y/n) hm? Such a lovely name, I haven't seen you around before, I'm Oikawa Tōru by the way." The coach kindly added upon overlooking the display of affection before meeting your nonchalant expression once more.
"That's (L/n) to you, but I've heard your name before. My classma-"
"No! You do not get to have (Y/n)-sama just because your old girlfriend dumped you, I'm going to marry them when I'm old enough!" Yuma confidently interrupted, just registering to Oikawa's charming compliments and thus now held a protective arm in front you. Ah yes you'd forgotten, Yuma had a mild crush on you...
"Damn it Takeru." The apparent ‘offender’ muttered under his breath, sending a frustrated glance to the boy now walking up to him wearing a calm grin.
"Don't worry Yuma, Uncle Oikawa must be terrible with romance if his girlfriend dumped him, so you'll win (L/n)." The young boy assured, his uncle apparently not impressed with his antics.
"Well, pleasure meeting you both. Thank you for coaching Yuma, I really appreciate it. Have a nice evening." You replied in amusement, unable to remove the shit eating grin as you waved with Yuma happily by your side bubbling about how he'd soon be good enough to play with you and your neighbour.
———
As you'd regretfully predicted, the one-off favour became a never ending cycle and you found yourself waiting patiently more often than you'd like. Only, with the frequency of your early arrivals, Oikawa had no hesitance in approaching you the moment you'd enter to discuss trivial matters and used the opportunity to flirt with you whilst Yuma was indisposed.
"Came to see me again (L/n)-chan?"
"You wish, but Yuma's serves have definitely improved since me and my neighbour last played with him so you must be a good coach Oikawa." You countered his playful attempts as per usual, this time gracing him with a sincere compliment rather than a quick witted comeback.
"Thank you, jump serves are one of my specialities so it'd be embarrassing if I couldn't teach them I guess." A sheepish hand shot to the back of his neck at the unexpected praise, he was proud of his accomplishments but hearing someone he’d grown attracted to say so left him rather enamoured.
"Could you show me one please?" Your polite request caught him off guard but how could he deny?
"Anything for you~" He didn't expect you to playfully roll your eyes, his charm was flawless but you offered a sly smile which was enough.
Soon the court was empty aside from the two of you and your trailing youthful companions, Oikawa more than excited to impress you with his skills and honestly, he did. His jump serve was perfect, his form was perfect and the shot was unstop- you skidded onto the court, received his perfect serve albeit your aim was off and the collision with your arm was certainly heard.
"Ah damn, that wouldn't be effective in a real match! I should've aimed closer to centre." You sighed, rubbing your forearm with furrowed brows meanwhile Oikawa had ducked under the net and ran over to you immediately, pulling your forearms towards him.
"My god (L/n)-chan, are you alright? I'm so sorry if I hurt you -" He began profusely, inspecting your skin, ever so delicate with his touches.
"Oikawa I-"
"I didn't mean to, I wasn't expecting you to receive it at all -" Still, he was oblivious to your calm nature which currently contrasted his apologetic ranting one as he continued to fuss over you.
"Oikawa-"
"It was a nice receive thou-"
"Tōru. I'm okay."
His breath hitched and fingers laced around your wrist twitched slightly before freezing in place, why did his name sound so intoxicating coming from your lips? He should not be feeling this way with minors in the room but god he wanted more of it - needed more of it.
"That was an incredible serve, as a player I had to try my luck with the best of the best you know? I'd love to learn to serve like you." You'd added, successful in your attempts to silence his qualms as he gazed at you somewhat dazed.
"I'll teach you." It was a split second decision, one he hadn't truly considered after you'd left his mind blank, his only instinct in that moment was pleasing you.
"What?"
"What?" Oikawa questioned himself upon mimicking your response with equal confusion, as if only realising what he'd just said but luckily Yuma unabashedly cut him off.
"No you won't!"
"Yes I will. After practice next week (Y/n)-chan~" It was petty, of course you'd never consider dating your local kid companion but Oikawa couldn't help but feel like he was in competition with him for your attention.
"It's (L/n)~"
"Mmm, we're on a first name basis now as you recently started." Despite the deadly daggers little Yuma was sending him, the Setter stuck his tongue out in response which earned a slap at the back of his head accompanied by a mild scold courtesy of you.
"Don't be mean to the children or else I won't be coming to your lesson next week."
His gaze flicked back to you, a mischievous glint to his features and a smirk that'd set your skin alight adorning his lips, his tone lowered but still held its usual beguiling charm and his words left you flustered. Or rather, the explicit ulterior meaning of them did.
"The only reason you'll come is because of me."
"I..." Your body spoke for you really.
It was like his personality had flipped and taking a second to admire your speechless form, he switched back to that flippant tone as he teased you rather happily.
"So dirty minded (Y/n)-chan, I'll be the one teaching you thus the one you'll be coming to see. What else could I have meant?"
Then again, two could play at that game.
"I'll be sure to give you a good workout, Tōru~” The implication was there, and your momentary pause only added to the tension before you chose to continue.
"See you later then, come on Yuma, my neighbours up for a practice session if we hurry back." You grinned, the young boy grasping your hand as your left the club leaving a blushing Oikawa behind.
"She can't say my name like that, it's not fair!" Takeru simply sighed at his uncles whining as they cleaned up together, not really understanding the problem with it.
———
The week rolled around pretty quickly and you arrived at Lil’ Tykes Volleyball after practice much to Yumas delight. However, when his mother appeared, Oikawa playfully pulled you into him with a smirk and that practically set the young child's eyes ablaze.
"(Y/n)-sama, don't fall for him!" That silenced your conversation with his Coach, the latter raising an amused brow at his little opponent who was currently losing their dumb competition.
"For this dork? I'm still standing aren't I Yuma, have some faith." You giggled, ruffling the young boys hair who remained somewhat grumpy but waved goodbye none the less.
As planned, he lead you to the gym which remained set up from his session with the younger ones and already he was enthused to display his unique skill set. Watching him serve was truly incredible, though the gym was empty you could hear the drumroll of Seijohs cheer squad in your head every time he began - his serves were mostly the embodiment of perfection, a testament to the sheer determination he’d put into honing his body and talent in to something so dangerously sharp.
You couldn’t help but question how he performed, Oikawa modestly answering your detailed inquires and glowing under you analytical touches. Your hand glided underneath his own to elevate the ball slightly as you leaned into his side to pinpoint his desired target area on the other side of the court prior to pulling away again with an understanding nod.
“I get it, and when you hit it midair, what angle do you aim for?”
Taking initiative, the Setter immediately went to physically show you as he would his teammates until he recalled this was an entirely different scenario and hesitated with his movements, instead gesturing to your hand.
“May I?”
“Hm? Oh yeah, show me.” With your consent, he carefully positioned himself behind your shoulder, as you held the ball out with your less dominant hand whilst he delicately lifted your other and positioned it above the centre of the ball.
“Here is okay, it really depends on the height of your jump as you should align it at a downward angle in order to send it straight past the net rather than out of bounds.” Was his soft explanation, being in such close proximity meant he could lower his voice an octave or so.
“Okay, I’ll try it.” Hearing your adamant confirmation, Oikawa took a few steps back in order to assess your attempt and issue improvements.
The preparation was something you’d gained familiarity with but you’d also fallen into habit of your own serving style rather than trying Oikawas technique and unfortunately only managed to remedy yourself midair - by which point your landing would be less than graceful even though the serve was relatively accurate.
With a wobbly return to the ground, your balance faltered and you landed on the floorboards with an aggravated groan.
“Such a wonderful shame (Y/n)-chan, you’ve fallen for me after all.” Despite the embarrassing faltering, you ran a hand through your hair directing your inviting gaze toward the Setter who seemed entranced, now offering his hand out to you.
Smoothly you took it and secured a grip unsuspecting enough to pull him down to you level, forcing him to kneel in order to maintain balance. In the same moment, you’d leant in with your hot breath fanning against his ear as you whispered to him.
“And you’re on your knees for me, Tōru~”
If not only the seductive air coating your voice, the statement alone had left him pleasurably flustered as you rose to your feet with the brunette following soon after wearing a devious smile.
“Oh? Yet you begged me to teach you my speciality Jump Serve.”
You mirrored his smug expression, swiftly scooping another ball from trolley before tossing it into the air, taking a running start and flying to meet the leather with a habitual powerful force that sent the ball spiralling over the net with immaculate precision of a Jump Float Serve.
“I have my own speciality, I just needed inspiration and seeing you up close and personal? Well, that really does it for me.”
“So then, shall we do this again sometime (Y/n)-chan? You can show me your moves next round.” The ‘subtle’ flirtations of your recent exchanges hadn’t gone unnoticed, this little game the two you were playing only growing more interesting by the second.
“I’d love to, oh and one more thing...” You flicked your attention solely onto him once more, pausing with a victorious raised brow and knowing stance as you elaborated. “I know you're lowkey competing with Yuma over me. Do you know how petty that is?"
"I’m not... yes..." The complete straightforwardness of your accusation left him searching for some form of excuse, however ultimately coming up short Oikawa heaved a haphazard sigh and shrugged, expecting to be chastised.
Instead, you wholeheartedly laughed, recovering enough to be met with a pouting Seijoh Captain as you validated your behaviour.
"Then, I appreciate that you'd be willing to go to such lengths Tōru and even if Yuma is heartbroken by this, I can’t wait to practice with you again."
"Okay but imagine his face if I marry you instead (Y/n)-chan~" It was more of a scheming tone this time, evil expression plastered on his face and you internally screamed at what a dork this guy could be.
“Oikawa, I’m his first crush! Don’t be so mean!”
Bonus: 😈
"Which team did you say you play for again?" The Captain called out as you collected your belongings, a lilt of suspicion in his voice as the brunette halted in his tracks suddenly struck by the thought.
"I didn't."
Tōru smiled at this, one that displayed a sense of superiority he held over his sharpened skills and dedication to his ever growing teammates that left Aobajōsai ranking high in the Prefecture.
"Don't be shy (Y/n)-chan, not everyone can match up to Seijoh."
With the sunlight reflecting off of your irises as you turned back once reaching the exit, swishing your signature track jacket over your form that caused his mouth to drop at the regretfully recognisable colouring.
"I play for Shiratorizawa, not everyone can match up to us."
"Shira- so... that neighbour you always practice with... he's..." Oikawa faltered over his clash of thoughts, mixed emotions settling in his chest as he watched your beguiling figure exude a sense of accomplishment at capturing him so off guard.
You disappeared from his sight into the blinding light outside, your final parting statement lingering in the silence like a haunting echo even after you’d left.
"Ushijima Wakatoshi, I believe you know him."

Prove Me Wrong
M!Reader x Oikawa
Tumblr media
a/n: SDKLFJSLDKFJDLSKF OKAY I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW ITS BEEN SO LONG SINCE I LAST UPDATED BUT I REALLY INVESTED MY TIME INTO RESEARCHING AND READING FANFICS WITH AN M!READER BC I REALLY DIDNT WANNA GET IT WRONG SO I APOLOGIZE IF I DID SOMETHING WRONG AND I HOPE THIS ANON LIKES IT!!!
Tumblr media
anon:
-heres an interesting thought. what about flamboyant oikawa with a cold boyfriend😳😳
Tumblr media Tumblr media
YEYYY I FINALLY UPDATED
LETS GET STARTED SHALL WE?
okayokayokay
so in the request above
this is a m!reader
meaning you will be male in this one so hehe yep the story starts now
you are,,,
distant
and cold
but its mainly just because you were,,,
too tired to actually put in the effort of socializing
between bouncing between part-time jobs to care for your siblings and to schoolwork and book club
the mans can only do so much
so you spend most of your time in school just trying to catch up on sleep bc youre too busy studying up all night for exams since yanno
✨gRaDuaATiOn✨
unfortunately for you, your class had the famous manwhore oikawa tooru
why is that a bad thing?
well, imagine just trying to get some shut eye and suddenly, you just hear a bunch of screaming girls and it gets louder the closer the guy approaches your classroom and when he opens it,
the screams become 10x bass boosted
then imagine that with your sensitive hearing
now,,
it does bother you but it wouldnt bother you as much if he told them to leave
BUT NOOOOOO
he decides to let them in and chat with them and flatter them and continue with that bs until the bell rings
even then,
the girls in your class cant help but keep giggling at him and he always whispers in that obnoxious voice and youre just like two seconds away from ripping his tongue out
now
you dont hate him
you just genuinely dislike his way of living
and the way he talks
and the way he acts
yea see?
no hate
theres a difference
then there was that one time that you got so fed up with it that when oikawa settled on his seat and the fangirls circled him like some cult
they started talking to him all at once trying to get his attention
so it was a garbled mess of sounds and you growled, burying your face deeper in your arms because you would snap really really soon
then one girl shrieked when oikawa smiled at her and then you really just let go of all bearings
your chair made a squeak as you shot up, palms slamming against the wooden desk and your eyes glaring straight at them
‘go back to the farm, ya squealing pigs’
DSKFJLSDFKJSDFKDJS SORRY I LOVE TSUMU
this made everyone silent-even the others in the class just minding their own business
they all knew you as the quiet kid who didnt really talk much but those who did were really scared at you and the way you talked to them with such a cold and monotonous voice that they started spreading rumors about you
even absurd ones like your eyes are so cold bc youve killed so many people that you have no life and empathy left
LIKE WHAT THE HECK YOU STRUGGLED TO GET A SPIDER OUT OF YOUR SISTERS ROOM THE OTHER DAY LIKE EXCUSE YOU
but apparently they were just,,, so scared of you that when you finally got done with them and bursted out, the girls started crying
YALL KNOW THE SAYING LIKE HELL HAS STARTED WHEN THE QUIET KID SNAPS
the females run out of the room scared and the others nervously looks at you
your eyes sweeped through the room and each one of them flinched when you made eye contact with them
YES ASSERT OUR DOMINANCE M/N
the only who didnt was oikawa tooru himself
your eyes landed on him and he still had that stupid smug look on his stupidly gorgeous face and you wanted to ki-WAIT NO SLAP it off of him
‘the hell you looking at?’
you grumbled at him and he just merely shook his head with a smile
‘you remind me a chihuahua, m/n-chan. so cute when its angry’
‘HAH?!’
now it isnt a surprise to hear oikawa tooru say that to a boy bc wowza the school loves him so much that hes a bi icon in seijoh and hes such a king like who cares?
but they were surprised to see you turn red, the tips of your ears to the base of your neck were all flushed
‘see? so cute, right, everyone?’
KSDFJLSDKJFS
THE NERVE OF THIS MAN
the class didnt say anything except just put their heads down bc as much as they wanted to agree with oikawa at how suddenly hot you looked, they were too scared that you might plummet their faces to the ground
maybe thats when everyone started noticing you more
again, you were very quiet, you didnt talk much, you just sat there and listened so obviously you didnt really stand out but then that outburst made you more noticeable
you started seeing girls in your class staring at you then blush and look away abashedly
then the guys in your class started greeting you, even people in the hallways
ngl the attention you suddenly got was overwhelming
especially when oikawa seemed to call out to you all the time now
as you were walking down the stairs, hed see you and he’d shout and wave to you
‘m/n-chan! hiii!!!!’
his loud voice would make everyone turn and look at you and you dont do well with public attention so you turn red and you glare at him
‘shut the hell up, idiot. and dont call me by my first name. we’re not friends’
you turned to walk in the classroom but you looked at him again after taking a few steps
there he was
smiling and giggling with those girls
all he does is smile and giggle and shit
its so damn fake that you cant believe everyone fell for it and the worst thing is oikawa’s doing it to get everyone’s acceptance and validication
it was pathetic and disgusting
poor oikawa :(
now on to baby flatttykawa side,
he was kinda hurt by that
like how the heck are you not friends when youve been going to high school for 3 years?
sure, its only been casual greetings and him waving at you when yall made eye contact
but its still something, right?
right?
when you walked back into the classroom, tooru cant help but feel down at the declaration of the lack of friendship you had
his form slouched and his eyes trailed down but the voice of some girl brought him back to where he was and to fix his attitude
‘oikawa-san? are you okay?’
the others muttered in concern with her but they were eased when he raised a peace sign with the signature smile
‘yep! all good!’
GOD I REALLY CANT STAND IT WHEN HE USES A FACADE TO EVERYONE BUT LIKE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH BC HES SUCH A STRONG CHARACTER THAT DOESNT BREAK AND HES SO INSECURE AND IT PAINS ME SO MUCH THAT HE FEELS THE NEED TO HIDE BEHIND A MASK EVERYDAY AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
truth be told,
oikawa has always noticed you
not only do you work at the one bakery with his milk bread but you also work at the convenience store that the team sometimes visits
then he also noticed you picking up your brother from the volleyball practice that takeru’s part of and he cant help but frown at the eyebags under your eyes that he always sees
he lies awake at night just thinking how you would look without those eyebags, without the sickly looking complexion, or even just the lack of life in your eyes
then during class, you sat by the window
tooru knows this bc his eyes always fixes itself on you whenever he opens that door and he has to hold in the need to hug you when he sees you sleeping on your desk
others might call you lazy
others might call you a video game all nighter kid
but they dont notice the things you do
the nervous habits hes seen from you at the times that tooru couldnt help but stare
he knew it was creepy to do it
but you were so silent
you blended yourself into the background and you made sure to stay there
thats why nobody knows anything about you
with good looks like yours and a smart brain (he knew this from mattsun and makki being your students), why exactly were you not known?
maybe thats why it drew you to him
all his life he chased,
but now hes the one chasing?
tooru knows that your left eyebrow lifts when sensei writes something you dont understands
tooru knows that you like to do sudoku in the convenience store while you worked
tooru knows you eat the same meal during lunch every day from the same lunchbox
and he also knows that your brother talks so highly about you from takeru
the little things your brother brags about like your ability to cook f/f or your weird ability to just assemble something without looking at the instruction manual
he notices and knows all these things about you
things that people never really even bothered to
oikawa didnt even know he liked you until iwaizumi pointed it out during lunch
the third years liked to go and eat at the rooftop where it was nice and windy
oikawa was sitting and leaned against the tall wire fence, his eyes fixated on you down below on the bench as you ate your lunch
then you accidentally loosened the chopsticks causing your food to slip off
that made oikawa giggle
he was chuckling and giggling that the others noticed him when he suddenly went quiet
‘oi, oikawa’
makki nudged him back to them and tooru flinched before smiling at them
‘hm? so you do notice me!’
iwa glared
‘idiot. of course we do. youre laughing over there like some damn schoolgirl. did one of your fangirls posses you or something? if not, cut it out. its ugly’
oikawa shot him an offended look
‘what?! iwa-chan so mean!’
mattsun took the liberty to peer over the edge to see what he was looking at and smirked
‘eh? were you looking at l/n-sensei?’
oikawa blushed, feeling like he just got caught doing something bad
‘and what about it? im looking at you too, right now, mattsun!’
makki cackled at oikawa’s poor attempt of reasoning
‘i mean, i dont blame you. if issei wasnt here, id definitely get with him’
SEDKLFJSDLFISDKFJ MATTSUHANA YALL :”)
oikawa’s eyes wandered back down to you and he noticed you put the bento box to the side before sneezing
‘gosh, even his sneeze is cute’
he mumbled then jolted when he heard his own words
iwa sighed
‘what are we going to do with you, shittykawa?’
‘what?! what did i do?!’
iwa’s eyes scrunched and he scrutinized his best friend
‘boke. i feel bad for that kid, doesnt know this stupid idiot likes him’
so thats how oikawa came to terms of it
he thought he was just interested and fascinated with you but he really does like you
and to be honest, he doesnt really want you to know that bc duh, you dont like him so why bother?
baby oiks doesnt interact with you much anymore bc he knows you get uncomfy with attention but he still does look out for you and decides he should just admire from afar
he will live every day just holding his feelings in for you and one day they will disappear
but today just wasnt the day
maybe today was the start of the worst yet the best part of your life
last night was particularly rough as the convenience store you worked in had a drunk person who wanted to fight with you and your manager had to call the police and it was just a mess
to add on to it, midterms were around the corner-like next week- so you were studying up for that
but your sister got sick so you were also trying to take care of her and making sure her fever was going down and her crying ever few hours about her tummy ache didnt allow you to sleep
hehehe single parent working late tingz
ALSO SHE DOESNT HAVE MISS RONA JFC
so yep haha you did NOT get any sleep
so you walked into school that morning, looking tired as hell and mad as hell but you just wanted to sleep bro
the one kid you tutor, matsukawa issei, and his friend who usually tags along, hanamaki takahiro, noticed you dazedly pass them in the hallway and poor dudes felt bad for you
mattsun actually pays you to tutor him bc he knows you need the money while taka preferred to buy you snacks and drinks as compensation
so it was normal that he had an energy drink in his bag that he was going to give you tomorrow during your tutoring day
‘oi! l/n!’
your head perked up at the call of your name and you nodded in greeting at the light brown haired boy
‘hey’
you muttered and mattsun placed his hands on your shoulder to keep you upright
‘oi, l/n, you sure you want to be here? you can go home and we can tell them youre sick or some-’
but you waved your hand
‘nonono todays an important lecture so i cant miss it’
the two guys didnt look convinced but they respected your need to be in school since they too need to be in class for midterms
‘here. at least take this’
makki placed a drink on your hand and you nodded and gave them a small smile
‘thanks’
you mumbled before wandering off
once they saw you at a distance away, makki wrapped an arm around issei to get his attention
‘ya think we should tell oikawa to keep an eye on him? make sure he doesnt keel over and die or somethin?’
mattsun stopped before nodding
‘yea thats a good idea’
SKLFJLSDKJFD NOT MATTSUHANA BEING YOUR PARENTS
oikawa was already in class when you walked in and he cant help but tear his eyes away from the girls to you as you sluggishly walked to your seat
the drop of your bag and the thud of your head meeting the desk made him worried bc you looked worse than usual
his phone buzzed and he checked it to see a message from mattsun
‘keep an eye out for your boyfriend. mightve been working late last night and yanno how he is. just watch out if he faints or something’
okay that made him super worried
totally ignoring what mattsun called you, oikawa knew he needed to talk to you
but these fangirls were the first problem
he shut his phone off and looked up at them with a grin that made them madly blush
‘ladies, class is about to start. oikawa-senpai would hate for you to be marked. so study hard for me, okay?’
like hypnotized cult members, the girls ran to their classrooms and tooru finally had the opportunity to talk to you
he stood up and walked over to your seat
‘m/n-chan’
he called out, looking down at you
‘m/n-chan’
he tried again and was about to put a hand on your shoulder when your hand snatched it
‘dont touch me, oikawa’
you grumbled and tooru furrowed his eyebrows
‘m/n-chan, i just wanted to ask if youre okay’
he whined and you didnt bother to look up but just let go of his hand
‘i was until you came over, idiot’
ouch
tooru was thankful that the teacher came in then and there bc he didnt know how to respond to that
he wanted to brush it off but it hurt him a little
and he knows he shouldnt entertain his crush on you but he couldnt looking at you and watching as you got up to use the bathroom
as class went on, oikawa was starting to worry
now again, hes no stalker bc his observation skills were just phenomenal due to volleyball
so he noticed that youve been in the bathroom for like 20 minutes now
DONT JUDGE US, OIKAWA. WE’RE JUST TRYING TO PUSH OUT THE BIG PIECE OF-
okay nevermind
anyways
tooru, worried that something happened, raised his hand to go and use the bathroom and the sensei wasnt exactly paying attention so he just let him go
thank god he has long legs bc he was able to reach the bathroom quick and he stifled a shriek when he saw your passed out form inside
‘M/N-CHAN!’
he yelled and he cursed when duh you were alone and who knows how long youve been there
and ew bathroom floors is bleh
you were in no way light but you werent exactly heavy either so he was able to muster up all his strength and hoisted you on his back
tooru’s heart thrummed in his chest and he knew it couldnt be that serious but he cant help but think of the worst
and yep
the nurse just told him that your heartbeat was okay and you were snoring so you mustve been exhausted by the dark circles in your eyes
‘keep an eye on him for me. i have to tend to midoriya over there. the kid broke his arm again and i dont know how’
she grumbled at the end but tooru didnt care as he sat on the chair next to your bed
he sighed before laying his head on the cot by your hand
his eyes settled on your face and how peaceful it looked
gosh, you really were so cute
your personality just sucked ass
constantly telling him to shut up and calling him idiot
hmph
not long after oikawa fell asleep, you woke up and cursed, immediately realizing you fainted and you missed class
as you were going to rub your eye, there was weight on your hand and you looked down to see a head full of brown hair that could only belong to a certain someone
a certain idiot
‘oi. oikawa, wake up’
you shook his head and when he didnt budge, you just pulled your hand from under him making him jump awake
at first, he was confused
looking around like a lost puppy and his eyes bleary
yea it was cute and what about it
then he noticed you sitting up and he smiled
‘you feeling better, m/n-chan?’
he asked, leaning close
but you placed your hand on his face to push him away
‘yea. and stop leaning so close, idiot’
you grumbled and he whined
‘youre so mean, m/n-chan! i was so worried about you!’
he complained and you rolled your eyes
‘i didnt ask you to be, idiot’
SLDKFJSDLKFJKL M/N IS SO MEAN WHAT THE FAK
oikawa frowned
‘i cant help it. i like you, m/n-chan’
you froze, looking at him with scrunched eyebrows
then you chuckled dryly
‘yea, okay sure. im okay now so you can go to class’
wOW OIKAWA DESERVES BETTER WHAT
tooru was taken aback
‘wh-what? thats it? after i just told you that i liked you?’
you blinked at him
‘what do you want me to say about that, oikawa? how do you want me to react? im not like your fangirls, squealing and shit’
your words cut deep in him and oikawa held your arm
‘no wait a minute. what do you mean by that? do you not believe me?’
‘who the hell believes something that’s fake?’
there was a snip in your tone and oikawa knew you were talking about this facade of his
‘what? i-’
‘you think i believe you? you telling me you like me? do you even know who you are?’
you asked and tooru sniffled, eyes staring at your chest
‘for years, you told people what you wanted them to hear, regardless if you meant them or not. not once have you ever told them no. who the hell accepts chocolates when they dont even like them to begin with?’
at that last part, oikawa snapped up to meet your eyes
‘how did you know’
you rolled your eyes
‘our brothers are friends, idiot. he gave him some of the chocolates you gave to takeru since the brat couldnt eat them all’
oddly, that brought some warmth in tooru’s chest
so he wasnt the only one who knows the stupid stuff
but you continued on your rant
‘for a guy who doesnt like sweet stuff, youve accepted their nasty treats all the time, like why? oh, wait i know why, because you want them to like you. it doesnt matter if-if this-this persona of yours isnt real because as long as they like you, you dont give a fuck. isn’t that true? am i right? because please, prove me wrong’
maybe your dislike for him came out at that tangent and you half expected him to cry but you were surprised when he glared at you with teary eyes
‘i will. ill prove you wrong, m/n, that i do like you and i will make you like me. ill make you like me with the real me. i swear.’
‘mhm. okay. sure, oikawa’
do you regret it?
i mean,,,
kinda?
but not really?
because you loved watching the girls faces fall when oikawa rejected their treats the next day
you were walking to class when you noticed him with his cult by the entrance and you saw him smiling at some girl before gently pushing away a can of cookies
‘gomen. i actually dont like sweets that much anymore. if you want, you can give me milk bread?’
you stopped and oikawa caught your eye and he grinned
you nodded in greeting before continuing to walk
but he noticed a small smile on your face and gosh oikawa sighed like a lovesick fool
it took iwaizumi to finally send him back and his fangirls were looking at him worriedly
‘could you be less obvious, shittykawa?’
rip iwaizumi hajime in episode 546546546 of daily adventures of oikawa tooru
you noticed that oikawa has started to become distant with his fangirls and hes been sticking to you during lunch, leaving behind the others
makki and mattsun looked like proud parents as they peered down over to you flicking oikawa’s forehead and they smiled
‘god, that kid deserves this’
‘hah? that sounds like more of a punishment to me. but i dont care. it takes him off our hands for a while’
IWA I SWEAR HES SO MEAN BUT HE STILL WUVS TOORU SO ITS OKAY
oikawa would pick your brother up and take him home when youre too busy to go get him yourself and sometimes, he even takes your little sister too which causes them to have a mini sleepover and you sleep there too
also, whenever youre working in the convenience store, tooru would buy sandwhiches and a drink just for you so you can eat them while youre on break and not have to waste money and you told himyou dont want him spending money on you but he doesnt wanna hear it
‘i dont want you buying me-’
‘ssshhhh dont. im doing this because i want to and becaus i care for you, m/n-chan’
overtime,
yea
sure
youve started to like him
youve started looking forward to seeing his stupidly cute face and his stupidly cute giggle
you went to his games and gave him a tight hug when hes about to play as a ritual for good luck and you would open your arms for him wide whenever he wins
then he didnt
against shiratorizawa, you noticed how he was so disappointed
even as you walked home with him, he continued to smile and tell you how good his team played
until you couldnt take it anymore
you pulled him over to some alleyway and you pushed him to the wall
DSKLFJLSDKFJLSDFJ WOW WHAT
oikawa nervously fiddled with his jacket and gave you a shaky smile
‘m/n-chan, what are you-’
‘tell me what youre feeling right here, right now. no bullshit, no lies, tell me everything in that pretty head of yours’
you deadpanned and tooru looked away
‘im fine’
‘are you lying to me, tooru?’
your voice was even but he could tell you were serious
he gulped before taking in a shakey breath
‘im fine. so stop asking about it!’
he exclaimed and you sighed
‘listen, i know its not official yet but you want me to be your boyfriend right?’
tooru flinched before he flushed at the word ‘boyfriend’
then he nodded
‘as your boyfriend, you have to lean on me, tooru. i dont want you to hold it to yourself because i wanna be there for you and i want to go through everything with you because i,,,,,’
you stopped and hesitated, debating if you should say it or not
‘because i like you, idiot’
you confessed and swallowed thickly
oikawa met your eye and his eyes watered
‘im so angry! im so disappointed! but i know my team did their 110 percent! we’re just not strong enough! so its not their fault! but ushijima is such a freak and hes too strong and its not fair!’
he complained and he cried loudly
not once in the 3 years of knowing oikawa have you seen him cry and you were so proud of him for being able to trust you enough to show him being vulnerable
you rushed forward held him close to your chest
‘for what it’s worth, you looked so incredibly hot and cute playing’
you whispered and pecked his neck
of course oikawa couldnt hold his surprise at the feeling of your lips on his neck so he squealed a little
you gigled and continued holding your boyfriend close, even if it was at some nasty alleyway
yall became official and ngl, they didnt see this coming
some nobody dating the grand king oikawa tooru?
what in the wattpad?
yall know that tiktok of like ‘guys you cant dm me anymore. i have a girlfriend now. what else? and i love her’
IF YALL DONT KNOW IM SORRY
but you totally made oikawa tell his fangirls that
YOU KNOW THE FUNNY THING?
when yall became official, you actually gained your own little fanclub
maybe its because you gained clout from your boyfriend but they started noticing you and wowza you were hot
before, it was you getting jealous over tooru but now, it was him getting possessive of you
hes such a brat that he sits on your lap before class and youre just all smirking and feeling all good bc your baby is so cute when hes jealous
YOU CANT DISAGREE THAT HE DOESNT RADIATE UKE ENERGY
but all oiks has to do is pull down your collar and expose your purple littered collarbones and they will know who you belong to
theres a reason why iwa-chan is now the kids babysitter
youre still kinda cold and distant to people but youre soft for your baby and you always hold him close when hes in sight and you just cant get enough of him
:’)
also!!
your sister loves dressing you up and oikawa has his sisters makeup and they both do your makeup and you guys have tea party with the boys and just the cutest domestic stuff
you still call him idiot though
but like affectionately yanno?
and over the years youve turned it down to dummy
and ngl tooru loves it when you call him that
what in the dumbification-
because he knows that equivalent to babe from you and he absolutely just loves you lmao
youre def the more quieter and calmer one in the relationship like you absolutely dont react much
while tooru is the overreactor and hes very animated with his facial expressions and stuff
like the one time
he was cooking some chicken pasta and you cheekily grabbed a piece of chicken and he made a dramatic gasp
‘*le gasp* oikawa m/n how dare steal a piece of chicken!’
you cackled before crossing your arms at the sight ofyour lover with his pursed lips and hands on his hips
‘excuse you. its more of you who’d take my last name’
it was so easy to make him flustered and tooru quickly turned around to tend back to the food but he was really just hiding his red face
‘b-baka. thats not going to happen’
‘not if i do it first’
you shrugged and smirked, wondering if he will fall for it
and as expected with oikawa tooru
‘yea okay sure’
‘i will!’
‘prove me wrong, m/n-chan~’
‘turn around right now’
oikawa rolled his eyes playfully before turning with a smile
‘what are you-*le gasp part 2*’
his hands covered his mouth at the sight of you there in front of him, kneeling on your knee tightly clutching a silver ring between your thumb and index finger
your heart was thrumming in your chest but you gulped and smiled
‘i win. now marry me, dummy’
oikawa screamed
Tumblr media
a/n: sorry if this sucked booty :((( but i just really like the thought of uke oikawa and just him with a cute boyfriend for a change like please we all know oikawa is a bi king and thats on docosahexaenoic acid

02′s themes in relation to its finale
Tumblr media
By “finale” I don’t mean “epilogue”, but rather the final battle and confrontation that make up 02 episodes 48-50. Generally speaking, 02 is a series that is much less about progression of plot events as much as it’s about theme and message, and my feeling is that this becomes increasingly so the deeper you get into its second half and approach its ending. Narratively speaking, we need a big, bad enemy to beat up in a fight, but if we shift our perspective a bit, what does this finale say as a close to 02′s themes and concepts?
The thin boundary between good and evil
Our major enemy for the first half of the series was the Digimon Kaiser, who was later established to be the very naturally kind Ichijouji Ken -- which is a pretty massive swerve, considering that most series with “reformed villains” would usually make them a bit of an edgelord who happens to be a little nicer. But instead, the series goes very deep into the psyche of what could make such a kind child be tipped over the edge, and, even though it’s all revealed to be accelerated by supernatural interference, it’s made very clear that his own trauma and insecurity was most of what did it.
So, anyway, it’s revealed in the end that the “final mastermind” behind it all was none other than Vamdemon, an effective midboss from Adventure. Vamdemon’s popularity aside, this initially seems like a very strange choice. But looking at some statements about 02′s initial planning is somewhat revealing: the original planned concept for the final boss was a Digimon that would ultimately be reduced to only “an idea” (and was rejected on the grounds of being too gory for the Sunday morning kids’ timeslot). When you think about this original concept of “a Digimon that had been reduced to only an idea,” that explains the initially odd-seeming combo of defeating a Digimon with the combined power of idealistic positivity, because it’s a plot point that would certainly make more sense if said Digimon had been reduced to a spirit of malice.
However, the interesting part about this is that the replacement for this original final boss was not Vamdemon but Oikawa and his lackeys, which means that, substantially, the real “final enemy” of this story is actually Oikawa, and the ideological questions he poses for the Chosen Children and those around them. Vamdemon may be the “mastermind” from a plot perspective, but, ironically, his important role is actually to define Oikawa’s narrative -- and, as if to drive this in further, he’s not even voiced by his original voice actor from Adventure (Ohtomo Ryuuzaburou), but Oikawa’s own, Morikawa Toshiyuki (and this voice change is actually pointed out in the series proper, too).
So why Vamdemon and not just a random spirit of malice? Well...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vamdemon’s presence specifically establishes the precise moment in time Oikawa lost complete control of himself -- and, more widely, establishes the connection between himself as a “Chosen Child who could never become one”. Prior to this episode, we knew that Hida Hiroki’s death and their shared childhood had some relevance to Oikawa’s downfall, but the August 3 “Odaiba fog” incident in 1999 is the exact moment where everything could completely crash down in front of Oikawa’s eyes, with Hida Hiroki having just died, and Oikawa personally witnessing Digimon, the Digital World, and the Chosen Children (and boy, the way this scene is framed with him right next to the waterfront, you might even wonder what he might have done with himself had Vamdemon not interfered...). The Digital World didn’t have a huge amount of contact with the world before then -- in fact, Oikawa not being able to make much contact is a huge part of his character arc -- which basically leaves this as one of the only moments you can have this exact moment of Oikawa being ready to go over the deep end in this way. All of his regrets, of never being able to make proper contact with the Digital World, of Hiroki having died and left him alone, are ready for him in this exact moment -- as his own lackey Archnemon had said earlier, “human weaknesses are easy to manipulate.”
Moreover, of all of the “entities of malice” that made up Adventure’s villains, Vamdemon’s the only one who brought it all the way over to the real world (where the majority of 02′s conflict is set). This brief moment of contact with the real world was established in 02 episode 14 to be the defining moment of “contact” that would lead to Daisuke and Iori becoming Chosen Children. Particularly in the case of Iori, you can see the parallel -- Hiroki’s death and the resulting incident here would shape Iori’s strive to become a model citizen and a hero as a Chosen Child, whereas the exact same incidents shaped Oikawa’s descent into villainy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oikawa’s “sacrifice” in the end is not really a sacrifice in terms of sacrificing his life -- it’s said outright that his body is deteriorating, and so he would have died either way. What Oikawa does sacrifice is the ability to take one more step and make proper contact with Pipimon -- it is explicitly stated that he has to use the power of the dream world to grant his wish, meaning that he would never be able to take a proper step into the Digital World as a human, and therefore would never truly be able to have his initial wish granted in the way he originally wanted.
Thus, Oikawa leaves off with one last “regret” -- that, perhaps, if things had been different, he could have been just like the Chosen Children, going on “adventures” like them. But Iori points out right after that he did achieve his dream in some sense -- he got to reunite with the Digital World, and he did get to meet his partner, and so: it’s all about mentality. All of what happened to Oikawa was because of his own closed-in way of seeing himself and his place in the world, instead of being able to move on productively from his perception of what he “could and couldn’t do”.
In the end, Iori, the one who had once been so cold towards the idea of anything remotely associated with evil, is the one to guide him to that answer, and the other Chosen Children, who had previously not been very sympathetic towards him, still grieve over his death because they understand what it means to have a partner, and the sense of loss it would entail to be separated from one. It’s the one commonality they all can understand, and in the end, none of them were really all that different; it was just what they chose to do with what they had.
Tumblr media
This is especially because we see extensive flashbacks of Oikawa in 02 episode 47, and his design is that of a completely average adult in 02, nothing like the “look at this instant villain!” design he had during the course of the series. Oikawa was, for all intents and purposes, a completely average person who had dreams that he shared with his friend, dreams that they carried into adulthood -- it took this little to push Oikawa over the edge, and yet the things that did it were the exact same things that, in a different context, Iori took to become a Chosen Child who fought him on the other side.
False happiness and pointless fixations
Tumblr media
Tying into Oikawa’s fixation with “regrets” and an unhealthy mentality about his own position, Oikawa blames his inability to go to the Digital World in 02 episode 48 on himself being a “tainted adult”, not recognizing that it’s his own having fallen off the deep end that’s the likely reason he’s being rejected. Oikawa is, effectively, maintaining a fixation on “regrets” and a past he can’t get back; he’s still stuck on the image of his happy childhood playing with Hiroki, and all of the things he “couldn’t do” as a child after having his initial contact with the Digital World cut off. The ending reveals that he had met Pipimon before, and so you can interpret everything he’d done beforehand -- including creating two Digimon that are ultimately his “minions” more than they’re his actual “partners” (and were ultimately ripped away from him by the very same malicious spirit that represents his nihilism) -- as an attempt to reconnect with that partner, even if it resulted in him forgetting his actual purpose.
Beyond that, the Chosen Children themselves are momentarily sidetracked by a “fixation” of sorts --
Tumblr media
02 is a series about “accepting things and moving forward”, so each of the illusions presented by BelialVamdemon have to do with a fixation that’s holding each respective kid back:
Takeru’s idea of seeing his family together again might not be completely impossible, but it’s probably not happening anytime soon -- and, as far as 02 episode 17 and 47 showed us, relations are at least improving and everyone else is doing a much better job of actually moving on and accepting the current state of affairs than he is.
Iori’s fixated on the idea of being able to please and be with a father who’s long dead (again, his issue is technically the same one Oikawa’s fixating over).
Hikari’s fixated on a future idea and dream that she wants to see pass, which won’t happen unless she can proactively work towards it now (and the 02 epilogue itself establishes that getting there won’t be all sunshine and roses).
Miyako’s fixated on her surface mood of stress and a desire to escape it, only to be confronted with the fact that it doesn’t actually make her all that happy either.
Ken’s fixated on ideas of “punishment” and “forgiveness” that ultimately won’t get him anywhere.
In the end, the one to avoid it is the most “forward-thinking” of all of them, Daisuke, who’s least likely to get caught up in such fixations. But even he has this to say:
Tumblr media
Daisuke understands that not everyone is as simple-minded as him, and that’s not inherently a bad thing -- it’s just that when you need to go forward, you need to go forward (and people who exploit others’ weaknesses against them are still unforgivable jerks). You need to accept that things are the way they are at current, and use the information you get from it to keep moving forward and do something productive with it rather than clinging onto things you can’t have to the point you can’t do anything. Nobody was giving anyone shame for having those internal worries that BelialVamdemon plagued them with -- it’s just that staying in there forever, instead of moving on with important things they had to do, wouldn’t be good for them either.
Tumblr media
Hence, that’s what Oikawa actually sacrificed -- he had a choice to use his final moments to spend his remaining short time with his partner that he’d spent so long unconsciously chasing after, but he instead decides to do something to help the Digital World and reverse some of the damage he’d personally caused instead of continuing to fixate on that regret. At the very least, he can continue to be with Pipimon in some other sense, even if it’s not what he originally wanted.
The pressure to be a “perfect person” as imposed by society; the conflict between that and pursuing one’s own happiness
In the last section, I mentioned that Oikawa was the kind of person who fixated on regrets about what he “couldn’t do” during his childhood. You can identify a bit of what was leading up to this in the prior episodes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We learn in 02 episode 47 that Iori’s grandfather Chikara made the mistake of barring Hiroki and Oikawa from getting too deep into their connection with the Digital World, considering it “nonsense”, which led to the two of them becoming disconnected from it and continuing to wistfully chase after it -- which also led to Oikawa being driven further over the deep end when Hiroki, the only person who understood that, died.
Moreover, Oikawa ended up developing a complex not entirely unlike the Kaiser’s fixation with being a “perfect” person in the first half -- and, just like how he blames his inability to enter the Digital World on being a “tainted adult”, he fails to have the self-awareness that it’s this exact nihilism keeping him out of it, taking even further offense at the idea of him being a “tainted existence” (because of what he’s embracing) and deciding that his reaction needs to be sinking even deeper into it. And while he implants the Dark Seeds into the children with the intent of exploiting their power, he also indicates that he thinks he’s doing them a favor by enabling that ideology of “becoming a perfect person” within them.
Tumblr media
Remembering that the final battle in this series is not necessarily about the physical fight as much as it’s about the ideology that Oikawa espoused, in the end, what Oikawa really “implanted” in these kids along with the Dark Seeds was the pressure that they should sacrifice their happiness to be “perfect” people. The Chosen Children reach out to them by asking about their dreams, and the children list off careers that have certainly gotten their parents scorning them for not being “good enough” for them, or gotten them mocked by other people (Hiroshi says that he gave up on his manga artist dreams because people laughed at him for it). In the end, “the pressure to be ambitious” is pressure in itself -- what if what you really want isn’t ambitious as much as it’s something that makes you and others happy (like, for instance, ramen making)? And especially when you’re a child -- shouldn’t this be the time when you enjoy yourself to the fullest?
This is even alluded to in Ken’s Spring 2003 track, in terms of how he and Osamu weren’t able to enjoy their childhood because of that pressure:
You were demanded to grow up fast, weren’t you, Brother? Because we were always being evaluated and compared by someone, we didn’t get a chance to have more freedom. We didn’t have any chances to run down an alley because we felt like it, or pull up weeds, or tumble around… meaningless things, things that didn’t bring any value to us at all. Just like the cat napping on the roof… we weren’t able to fully enjoy any everlasting freedom.
Like Ken and Osamu, the Dark Seed children accepted the Seeds because they decided that it would be better to trade in their happiness in exchange for getting closer to that ideal of “perfection”, only to destroy their own selves in the process. Which is accentuated when acknowledging their own selves is what leads to them meeting their own Digimon partners.
Tumblr media
Takeru had said, earlier, that the Digimon will appear if you wish them to -- and given that a Digimon partner is a metaphor for the inner self, it says a lot that the point here is “the key to connecting with your partner is to connect with your actual self”. Like how Ken managed to reunite with Wormmon in 02 episode 23 by accepting everything about himself and resolving to live with it, and how Oikawa will later meet Pipimon after having come to terms with what he was actually looking for the entire time.
Tumblr media
And in the end, what we see of Vamdemon isn’t really all that different from the original “reduced to an idea” concept we got from the original 02 final boss concept -- remember that BelialVamdemon has effectively become the incarnation of Oikawa’s own nihilistic ideology; perhaps he took on a lot more than just a voice actor! Actually, the whole sequence in 02 episode 50 with everyone listing off their dreams and destroying BelialVamdemon part by part is relatively similar in substance to the original proposal (the staff must have been really attached to that idea). And, hence, why what destroys him for good is the combined feelings of everyone together, resolving to move forward instead of chasing after meaningless things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oikawa ultimately recognizes that what was holding him back was his own mentality -- everyone here, Ken, the Dark Seed children, and Oikawa himself, all thought they were becoming “strong” and “perfect” people by ignoring them, but instead ended up as pawns for others, and all of these people could have found better ways to cope with their problems through embracing themselves and finding support, and would have come closer to those “dreams” while they were at it. Instead, Oikawa exploited others and clung onto shallow symbols because he thought that kind of straightforward idealism was an impossible route for him, and locked himself out of all of it. But in the end, he’s able to do something -- he’s able to use his “dreams” to have the Digital World healed -- and with that, is able to have his last moments in happiness.
Tumblr media
Incidentally, back in 02 episode 49, Daisuke had even outright said that there’s no inherent issue in striving for self-improvement (after all, both Adventure and 02 were about people slowly getting past their insecurities and becoming better people). Daisuke himself is a person who’s improved a lot over the course of this series! But that’s something you need to do on your own terms and in a way you’re comfortable with -- not forcing yourself into the mold of an “ideal person” at the expense of losing everything about yourself, like Ken, the Dark Seed children, and Oikawa all did at some point.

FAVORITE ?? AAAH ANON ... thank you so much!!! i’m grateful that my muse is so strong right now, i’ve been doing my best to dodge dry spells. i hope that you stay safe and healthy as well!! 💖💖💖
anon 2 said: i was reading "beyond the veil" and the whole time i was like "whats the twist? they're getting along too well. someone must have died. is the reader is a ghost? omg what did tu hao do. oh. that." aaaa anyways what i'm getting at is that i really liked the twist at the end and how you characterized tu hao as a yandere. the fic was really good!
i kept readjusting the idea for the hu tao fic so it’s a big relief to know that you enjoyed it!! given her ability to see spirits of the dead, i thought it’d be a waste not to somehow incorporate that. hu tao is my second favorite genshin character so i wanted to do her justice 😭😭 thank you very much for the sweet feedback, those are all the reactions i was hoping to instill in the reader 👁 hu tao is a very sneaky yandere... super sweet to her darling but lots of darkness beneath the surface.
anon 3 said: OMG i didn’t know u write for collar malice as well?? there aren’t many writers for the game i’m so happy T—T
i played through the entire first game and i still need to finish the fandisc thingy!! but yes, i’d love to try dabbling in that universe, all i need is an idea interesting enough to make me write for it. takeru was by far my favorite, i felt so empty once i completed all the content relating to him. we’ve got to get more takeru content in this world he’s so <333 AAA
anon 4 asked: what’s your quotev? i’d really like to read your stories from there!
WHEW i haven’t updated my quotev in a while (two ish years i think?) but if you’re feeling brave, you can check it out here! there’s so much cringey stuff but i keep it there as a Reminder of how far i’ve come. and it also keeps me humble. very humble...
anon 5 asked: Is there a Genshin Impact NPC that you cannot stand? As of now 6 string Jose is on my shit list. Get outta the way!!!!!
personally, the NPCs that bother me the most are the ones who repeat the same one voice line when i’m waddling about in the overworld. every single time i teleport to mondstadt i hear that one girl near the fountain talk about not wanting to trouble her brother anymore, and i got tired of hearing it about the 50th time. and of course i absolutely despise reckless pallad. man made me fight a stupid ice plant for a week. SMH...
anon 6 asked: Can you still request for jojos bizarre adventure?
you can, if it’s an idea i like a lot, i might just give it a shot! i love jjba a ton still, i just burnt myself out on writing for it. i don’t feel a lot of motivation to write yan jjba stuff these days, but i do dabble in the scarlet ribbons universe still! i have lots of WIPs for it that i need to wrap up (aha.. hahah. .a hah. ah .a).
anon 7 said: Hello! Once again I'm here to say I really really love your works! The recent Xiao fic got me so happy and it really makes my day. Thank you for your hardwork and I hope you have a nice day♡
HOW SWEET?? Case 2 - The thundering sound at Amanogawa High last floor
[AO3 version]
Hikari had joined the school journal staff just for fun, she wanted to take photos and write articles helping Chosen Children in her school to take care of their digimon partners and vice-versa. But this ability became more and more important for the shocking story ready to unfold.
“Hey, Yagami-san” a boy came to talk to her, “Can you take a photo of something peculiar for me?”
“A photo of something peculiar? I think I can, but what do you want me to photograph for you?”
“So some senior year students reported that there’s a wild thunder sound coming from the last floor in this building at midnight. Some said to have seen a monster’s silhouette too.”
“A monster?” She raised an eyebrow, “Maybe someone’s digimon partner?”
“They said it wasn’t a digimon of any of the students to have here…”
“Hm…” the girl mused…
“... And then this was what he said” She reported to the other five members of the now ‘formed’ Team 02.
“Interesting… A ghost story…” Armadimon commented.
“Hm, could it be just a lost digimon residing at Hikari-san’s school?” Iori mused. The others seemed to be doing the same.
Except Daisuke. His face had a crooked smile, like if he was trying to hide his true reaction.
“Huh, what’s wrong Daisuke?” Miyako and Ken asked together, looking at the boy.
“N-nothing… I just ate a sour candy before coming here… It was… too… sour…”
“But you like sour candy!” V-mon babbled, “I mean, you like anything to eat. Sour, Salted, Bitter, Sweet…”
“Aren’t you afraid of a ghost story, right?” Patamon asked innocently.
“... I’m fine! Ghosts don’t exist after all!”
“Anyway, maybe we could investigate this…” Hikari interrupted them.
“I agree with Daisuke, though” Tailmon looked at them, “Ghosts don’t exist, there might be a lost digimon, like Iori pointed out.”
“Bakemon on the other hand is clearly an undead digimon” Hawkmon added, “But that shouldn’t be a big deal, don’t worry Daisuke-san.”
“Yeah, l-like I said” Daisuke’s voice was wavering.
“Daisuke doesn’t like Bakemons” V-mon clarified, “I think it’s because of that time Ken psychologically tortured him--”
“... I’m still sorry about that” Ken frowned.
“No biggie” Daisuke pouted, “Well, you didn’t know me that well before…”
“Is there a reason behind this behavior though?” Iori raised an eyebrow, “Could it be…”
“Yeah, Sherlock” Daisuke sighed and gave up on hiding it, “It’s because of that day, when everyone at Odaiba got captured by Vamdemon. It’s not like I have fear of them, just… Heck, it gave me bad memories. But like I said, it’s no biggie.”
“On the other hand if it is a real spirit he might scream,” V-mon added.
“Yeah if it is-- H-Hey, of course not!”
“Anyway… let’s check it out” Ken interrupted the imminent bickering between Daisuke and V-mon, in order to bring back the main subject, “If it is a lost digimon we must send it back to the Digital World. If not, it might be just someone pulling a prank on Hikari-san’s school.”
“Gah, I lost one of my Digimentals!!” Daisuke gasped while the rest kept discussing doing it next night. The truth is, he wasn’t interested in that convo anymore. V-mon and Daisuke were arguing about the missing Digimental now.
The group went back to Hikari-Takeru-and-Daisuke’s school after the classes and extra activities were over. Daisuke went because Hikari herself had convinced him there wouldn’t be ghosts. (Daisuke: “I’m NOT afraid of ghosts!”) -- They waited on the ground floor inspecting the place, looking for clues like a good detective team. Daisuke managed to get a broom and was holding it like a lance (Miyako: “What will you do? Sweep the ghost away with the broom?”) and stood closer to Iori.
V-mon, however, was checking the trash bin from the corridor. Hawkmon blinked:
“What do you expect to find there…?”
“The ghost so I can punch it with my forehead and help Daisuke to calm down.”
“Oh…”
“Maybe we should split up and check the floors” Ken suggested, and then Daisuke muttered something that sounded like:
“Shoot, not the classic ‘spread out to cover up more clues’ line!!”
“If you’re scared you can stay here” Takeru said innocently with a grin.
“W-WHO SAID I’M SCARED!? MAN, I’M READY TO FIGHT THE UNKNOWN WITH THIS BROOM!”
“I will help!” V-mon punched the palm of his other hand, “I will make a ghost pudding and take a photo with Daisuke’s phone! Hikari and Tailmon will love it!!”
“Huh, what will Hikari and I love?”
Daisuke bonked V-mon in the head with the boom, “NOTHING! HE SAID NOTHING!” and laughed nervously.
Tailmon raised an eyebrow, “okay…?”
The group split up through the floors -- The building only had three floors, so each jogress partner went to it -- Daisuke and Ken in the 1st floor, Takeru and Iori in the 2nd and then, Hikari and Miyako in the 3rd. Each pair would even split up through the corridors, which made Daisuke himself not very happy with it.
“Ken-chan,” Wormmon looked at Ken, who was carrying him inside in a backpack, “Do you think it’s a good idea to leave Daisuke-san and V-mon all alone…?”
“Daisuke got a broom besides V-mon. We all saw what he’s able to do before, remember? We rolled down a cliff when I was the Kaiser. He’s fine.”
“Um… But if they call for help, evolve me into Stingmon so we can reach them faster.”
“Alright.”
“Nice idea, Ken” Daisuke couldn’t stop his complaints. He walked in the corridor with the broom ready to hit anything that comes into his direction first, “Let’s split up! It will be fine! If there’s a digimon here and a higher level than our partners, one of us’ gonna die!”
“Are you still scared?” V-mon asked, also walking carefully by watching every single angle he could. Yes, he was doing little twirls as well, to cover his own back and to keep watching Daisuke’s footsteps.
“I’m not scared, V-mon! I’ve watched enough movies and TV shows to know what’s coming next! First, the group spread up to search for clues. And then next one of them, the most unluckiest of the group gets attacked by the monster or villain or SOMETHING UNEXPLAINED!”
“Yeah, at this point we’re the unluckiest ones.”
“D-DON’T JINX IT!”
“Don’t Jinx what?”
Suddenly they heard a strong noise at the end of the corridor, and then Daisuke gulped. Yes, he’s the unluckiest out of the six right now. The perfect victim, but he wouldn’t let a ‘spirit-or-whatever-this-thing-is’ frighten him! He held the broom like a sword, ready to slay any obstacle in front, and he and V-mon started to run to the end of the corridor… Screaming.
The screams reached Ken, who felt his heart skip a beat. The screams were spreading through the building and making the other two pairs alerted. The yell of bravery turned into a scream of horror, and when Ken ran to find Daisuke and V-mon… They kept running and throwing anything they could find against that shadow. But the chaser just vanished the moment it met Ken, escaping through the stairs to the next floor.
Ken and Wormmon looked behind to only find a panicked Daisuke on the floor, who had stumbled on his own foot. V-mon kept running and hit the head on the wall.
“Daisuke!” Ken called the other, a little concerned, “Are you--”
“THAT THING TRIED TO CATCH ME! A-A-A CREATURE WITH WINGS! V-MON CAN’T DEAL WITH THAT THING ALL ALONE, BRO!” he yelled, then he looked around and got up, “V-mon…? D-did the thing catch V-mon!?”
“... He’s right there” Wormmon pointed at the digimon who had reverted back to Chibimon, fainted next to the wall.
“AAAaah!! V-mon!!” Daisuke grabbed the baby dragon from the floor, “Don’t make me worried!”
“What was that thing?” Wormmon asked Daisuke, frowning.
“I… I don’t know, I don’t even know what happened! But this is why! we! don’t! split up! in these! cases!”
“Bird…” Chibimon babbled while unconscious “Thunder…”
“Bird, thunder?” Daisuke repeated vaguely… Then he glanced at Ken, “That’s it! It was a bird! A big bird! Not that big to not fit inside the building, but the size of a horse!”
“Can a horse fit inside the school facility?” Wormmon asked Ken.
“Probably, It went upstairs--”
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!” they heard Miyako’s scream. Ken’s eyes widened and he dashed to the last floor immediately with Stingmon carrying him in his arms. Daisuke went behind them, holding Chibimon and running as fast as he could get.
On the way, he regrouped with Takeru and Iori, then finally with Hikari. On the 3rd and last floor, Miyako was running away with Hawkmon coming next to her from a very very loud bird digimon. Why didn't Miyako evolve Hawkmon? She was surprised by it and the only thing she could think to do was to run.
She found the group and finally they were all together. The bird digimon fled to the roof, and the group of amateur detectives followed it there. The moonlight revealed a digimon with a helmet resembling Lighdramon’s armor headpiece; it was blue with some thunder-like accents in gold, and its wing-claws were in the shape of a thunder. Its talons have special armor also in the shape of a thunder. None of those kids had seen that kind of digimon before…!!
“Bird… Thunder…” Ken muttered, and then the words gathered into one, “No, Chibimon meant ‘Thunderbird’... Thunderbirdmon?!”
“So that’s a digimon, haha! See there’s no ghosts in town!” Daisuke laughed with triumph, but deep down it was only for himself that commentary.
“Thunderbirdmon?” The other three repeated.
“So, if ‘thunder’ is its element… We need to counterattack with ground attacks!” Daisuke stared at the group.
“You’re applying video-game logic into this conversation right?” Miyako rolled her eyes.
“We can try to calm it down,” Hikari suggested.
“So, cool it off!” V-mon punched the palm of his other hand.
“Not that kind of cool off, V-mon” Tailmon clarified, “Hikari, evolve me into Angewomon, I can handle this.”
Tailmon then evolved into the beautiful and holy angel-like digimon and used her warm and kind aura on the digimon. Somehow things went better for a moment, EXCEPT! They heard the voice of a little child telling them to backoff. When the kids and their partners looked for the sound of the voice, Armadimon spotted a tiny Puwamon coming in their way.
“Don’t hurt her!” Puwamon shouted, “She’s just protecting me!”
“Huh?” the kids and their partners tilted their heads.
“Floramon is stuck in this form, she does not want to hurt anyone!”
“But she tried to catch Daisuke and Miyako!!” Patamon said.
“Uh no, she scared Miyako-san and I but didn’t seem to be after us”
“... Daisuke, can I see your D-Terminal?” Ken asked, with everyone looking at the goggle boy.
“H-Huh? What…? D-do you think this is my fault?” he frowned, then handed his D-terminal to Ken.
The group gathered behind Ken and they opened Daisuke’s Digimental store program to only find… one Digimental. And this made sense now -- Daisuke’s Digimental went missing… And it got activated on this Armor-like digimon in front of them.
“W-what!?” Daisuke panicked, “I-is it my fault!?”
“That explains why she attacked Daisuke,” Ken mused, “Because he’s the original owner of the Digimental.”
“...!! I’m sorry Floramon!” Daisuke bowed his head a good amount of times, “We will release you from this form…! Angewomon, please?”
“Alright,” Angewomon nodded, and then used her holy powers to undo the armor evolution on Floramon. Thunderbirdmon glowed in a cyan light and then the Digimental left Floramon’s body, returning immediately to Daisuke’s D-Terminal. Angewomon caught Floramon in her arms and put the digimon on the floor. Angewomon healed the digimon’s wounds and Floramon woke up.
“Huh… wha-- Oh it’s you…!” she got up and looked at Daisuke, “You, you were in my head this whole time!”
“H-huh??” Daisuke blinked.
“I found a Digimental and then it activated in me… And I felt I had to find the owner of it, but I couldn’t undo this form…”
“This makes me curious about how you lost that Digimental,” Iori said.
“A digimon enemy knocked it off while V-mon was in the middle of Armor evolving” he said with a deadpan face.
“Oh…” yep, that was the reaction of everyone but Dai-Vee.
They opened the Digital Gate for Floramon and Puwamon, who thanked the 02 group and dived into the portal. Mystery solved, and the kids went back home.
Except someone was watching them in the shadows.

Boruto: Sacrifices [Remade] | Chap.12 - Pursuing Silence
Tumblr media
Written by: Eleanor-Devil & @mirage-05
Prologue | Chap.1 | Chap.2 | Chap.3 | Chap.4 | Chap.5 | Chap.6 | Chap.7 | Chap.8 | Chap.9 | Chap. 10 | Chap.11 | Chap.12 - You’re here
There was silence for a long moment. "The sound?" then came a voice, low, emotionless... unknown to most. Naruto didn't even realize all the eyes in the room turning towards Orochimaru, his mind fixated on one word. "The woman...?" "She didn't actively take part in attacking the child, but... She did something much worse." The young Yamanaka paused for a moment, gulped, and continued. "You asked why you couldn't hear the child. She was the reason." The tension in the room was so dense that it was almost tangible. "Explain." the Hokage said simply, his voice suddenly dry.
"Yoshida Suzume, from the Sound's Yoshida clan... A clan who is known by a dangerous kekkei genkai. They form strong sound barriers, and in extreme cases, they can even silence the voice of their opponent." "You mean...?" Konohamaru was easily putting together the pieces, and his eyes widened slightly. "Exactly. She trapped Mitsuki in a sound barrier. Coupled with Takeru’s genjutsu, which was the reason the fire and explosion stayed hidden... even with how close and loud they were, we couldn't hear him fighting for his life." The silence was only interrupted by low murmurs - the news was indeed shocking and cruel. Naruto was lost in thought... He was sure there was no woman when they got there, he had personally made sure there were no other rogue ninjas, and then there was Konohamaru... But Ryu stood in front of him, telling him that there was a woman who was responsible for them not reaching Mitsuki in time... "Shikamaru." he said in a clear voice, cutting into the mumblings. His advisor was right beside him in a second. "I'm listening." "Contact the Land of Rice and arrange three tracker teams to immediately head out to the Sound. We should apprehend that woman at any cost." "Of course." Hearing the Hokage's words, half a dozen of the ninja's in the room got to their feet. "Lord Seventh..." Kakashi started, using his formal title. "As one of the best tracking ninjas, I would like a leading role in this mission." Kiba had also got up. "Me and my dogs have caught their scents before. I would like to be one of the team leaders as well." Naruto wasn't really surprised when he saw Konohamaru on his feet, too. "Excuse me Lord Seventh," the young jounin said, a hardened determination in his eyes. "This is a personal matter for me. I ask your leave to go, too." Shikamaru took a half step forward, but catching Naruto’s eyes, he didn’t open his mouth to voice his thoughts. "Lord Seventh..." That was Ryu. "I can sense that woman's chakra and I've seen her face. If you give permission, I would like to join the trackers, too." The Hokage thought about it for a moment, then nodded. Sai and Ibiki could continue the interrogations, and catching this woman was important. The groups were formed relatively quickly, everyone in there wanted to get this done as soon as possible. Shikamaru approached Naruto. "We got this under control. Go get some rest..." The blond laughed, although it lacked humor. "As if I will be able to rest..." Naruto sighed, but not just out of exhaustion… he gave his advisor a side-long glance. ”There is something I should tell you.” “What is it?” Shikamaru was almost hesitant to ask. “Shikadai… he was in the hospital too, during and after the surgery.” The Nara’s eyes slightly widened at that, and he was quick to grasp Naruto’s hand. “Did he… how much did he see…?” “I’m afraid he witnessed all of it.” Naruto affirmed his worst fear sadly. “Ino is with the kids now of course, but…” Shikamaru passed a hand through his hair with a sigh. “Yeah I… I will talk with Temari too. Excuse me for a moment.” With quick paces, he walked to the door and out. ... The groups were all ready. He himself lacked the necessary abilities for tracking, but Konohamaru felt that luck was going to be by his side tonight. This was an important matter. He couldn't afford to fail... As he was re-checking his weapons, he didn’t even hear the door open. He didn’t look up either, until he heard the Hokage’s voice. “Konohamaru...” The jounin glanced only half up, enough to see his advisor there too, before returning to what he was doing. “Is it time?” “Konohamaru, just…” It felt like the blond was trying to choose his words very carefully. “Why don’t you just stop for a minute?” “With all due respect, Lord Seventh, I don’t have a minute. The teams are heading out shortly and-” “That’s actually what we wanted to talk to you about.” There it was again… that guarded tone, although the Nara’s voice was more formal than the Uzumaki’s. It made the jounin finally look up at them, with just the slightest frown on his face. Although he chose a gentler tone, Naruto’s eyes were just as serious. “We are concerned that you might not be well-suited for this mission.” “No.” The young man had not listened to half of what they had been saying, but he didn’t need to. The implication was too clear, and too horrific. “No, don’t do this to me.” “What you had been through tonight…” Naruto paused a minute, but then continued. “We can’t allow you to succumb to your emotions, not in something this crucial.” “That won’t be a problem.” And with that, he turned his back to the two, but more so for the fact that he didn’t want to look them in the eye. “It will. It’s only too clear.” that was Shikamaru. “Look, I know how you must feel-” “No. You don’t.” Konohamaru cut in, and only the slightest tremble in his voice gave away his inner turmoil. Otherwise he sounded… almost cold. “Don’t I?” For the first time since he entered the room, the Nara was hesitant. “I watched, helpless, as Asuma-sensei was killed right in front of me… I know how it is to want revenge, but this is not the way.” The young man’s posture was a little stiffened from the mention of his uncle… today was really not a good time. He raised his head, but didn’t turn back to the other two. “But uncle Asuma didn’t die believing you can’t stand his presence, did he?” There was a big moment of silence, neither Naruto nor Shikamaru expected to hear this. “That… is not true…” the Hokage started to say hesitantly. Having finished his business, Konohamaru finally turned to them, but he was still avoiding eye contact. “Yes, it is. These last couple of days have been hard for me, and I’ve been out of it mostly… But I didn’t realize I was taking it out of my team… out of him especially… Maybe unknowingly, but it was inexcusable.” “This is all the more reason you shouldn’t go.” Shikamaru tried to reason slowly. “You are not in your right state of mind. In this case you might be more of a liability than help.”   “Shikamaru,” Naruto cut in, in a warning tone. “Easy.” “I won’t. I just… it’s all clear in my mind now. If I do this, when I go on this mission… I will have some sort of closure, some peace of mind. I will be able to live with myself and my mistakes. If… you decide to take that from me…” Konohamaru didn’t complete his sentence, but for the two men, it wasn’t necessary. “We don’t intend to punish you with this,” Naruto said, sighing. “I’m more concerned about you really… But,” he added, having made up his mind. “I also have faith in you, that you can pull this out. Just focus on the mission, and see this as a test to yourself.” Konohamaru felt his throat closing in on itself, grateful for the Hokage’s words. He made a quick, formal bow. “I will not disappoint you, Lord Seventh.” There was really nothing much left to say. With a curt nod from Naruto, Konohamaru was out of the room in a flash. ... No one saw him slipping out of the building. He had enough, dealing with these wretched people. So the sannin made his way, slowly, to the apartments where he knew his son lived. A new beginning... just a chance to become more... make friends... that was all Mitsuki ever wanted before coming to Konoha. Much like how he had a second chance... It would be simple... so much more effortless if he could just get Karin over to heal Mitsuki. He had no doubts that it would work, she was an Uzumaki after all, vast resource of chakra, and her healing abilities... But even if she begged herself to help his son (which he knew she would), he also knew that in her current situation, neither of his two other disciples would allow it. Suddenly, a harsh and sharp voice cut into his train of thoughts. "Halt!" Recognizing the voice, and more out of habit than anything, Orochimaru turned... and looked directly into the eyes of Anko, his former student. From the slight widening of her eyes, the sannin understood that she had managed to see through his disguise... Of course, he would expect nothing less from a disciple. "What do you want, Anko?" "What do I want?!" The woman asked incredibly, nothing but pure anger in her eyes. "What the fuck do you think you are doing here?!" The sannin didn't even bother to reply to her for a moment. "I have neither time nor patience for childish games. Leave me alone." "The hell I will!" The woman cried out, leaning forward in an attack position. "Fight me! You are going to pay for attacking Konoha!" A dangerous glint came into his snake like eyes. "I did not commit the crime all of you are so eager to blame on me." "And you expect me to believe it?!" "Since when did I ever deny something I caused?" "I hope you came here to take your little snake back!" Anko spit out, out of malice. "It was high time you realize he doesn't belong..." Before she could complete, Orochimaru appeared in front of her in a flash, lifting her up by the collar and throwing her, hard, into a wall. "No." he hissed through gritted teeth, and for a minute, Anko feared for her life. "Thanks to you and your wretched village, Mitsuki might as well forever stay in Konoha." Trying to get up, one hand on her throat, the former student gaped at him. "Wh... what?" "Oh, you're telling me you were not informed?" the sannin's tone dripped of heavy sarcasm. "What the hell are you talking about?!" The man turned his back on her, sparing only a brief glance at her. "If you value your life, do not try to follow me." And with that, he was gone. ... The sight of the blackened and barren forest right out of the borders came as a shock for the teams. It was almost mind-numbing - surreal - that a fight this ferocious happened so close to them without them noticing anything at all. In a silent agreement, the teams passed the area without a word, almost in a silent respect. Konohamaru was painfully aware that this place was where Mitsuki made his last stand. Still, with his mind set on one thing right now, to reach the Sound and find the woman who almost cost his student his life, he really didn’t expect he would still be paying attention to even the smallest details of his surroundings. Or maybe he was trying his hardest not to, to keep his focus. But he was a ninja, a jounin after all. The faint glimmer of light caught his eye as they were just about to leave the ghastly sight behind. Discreetly parting ways from the group, he made his way to the soft glimmer, something about it just drawing him closer like a magnet... … She didn't even wait to see the first tents - this was no time to sleep lightly. A bright light shone through the night, creating almost a day-like atmosphere, followed by a huge, rippling sound - but this was no explosion. Anyone who knew Yoshida Suzume knew that this was her kind of warning. "Wake up! Get going! Move! We need to LEAVE!" Slowly though at first, people began filing out. Suzume made sure that there wasn't anyone left inside, going into some of the tents herself to drag people out. "What's going on...?" "When did you come back?!" "Where are Takeru and Hideyoshi?" "They are not coming back! No time to explain! We need to move, NOW!" the woman yelled as she came out with a child in her arms. At once, there were murmurings surrounding the hundreds of people in the area. "We are not going anywhere until you make some explanations," came a strong, female voice, and a woman with long, orange-colored hair and fierce brown eyes came to the front. She had a young child clinging to her neck, looking around with sleepy eyes, his mahogany colored hair ruffled. "Why do we need to leave? Where are my husband and Takeru?" "He was killed!" the woman yelled finally. There were loud gasps. "And Takeru probably met the same end, or captured!" "W... what...?" the orange haired woman mumbled, as if in a trance. "Before we could even start the mission, we were attacked by a child! We had to defend ourselves and silence that kid forever - but if what I saw is anything to go by, he is, in a way, related to Orochimaru!" With her words, a silence gradually fell upon the people. Some of them looked very frightened by that last piece of news, but others looked at one another and one expression remained dominant; shock. "You... attacked a child...?" one of them asked finally. "We didn't have any other choice!" the woman snapped. "If we didn't kill that brat, the mission would have failed!" "Looks like it already did," another in the crowd said. "This mission was a mistake from the beginning..." Hideyoshi's wife mumbled. Some of the children had started crying. "Yeah, so what? What else were we supposed to do?! We all decided on this! Are you deaf - Orochimaru is coming for our heads!" "Hideyoshi would never fight a child!" the woman said while she put the child down and walked forward, towards the woman. "He did!" the other woman practically spat, glaring at the brown eyes. "Who do you think guided us to that child? Who do you think marked his route clearly so we wouldn't miss? Who..." SLAP! Suzume's head turned to a side, eyes slightly widened. "You are not gonna insult him in front of me any further." the orange haired woman said in a dangerous whisper. "There is no point in squabbling over a cast genjutsu," came an older voice then, and an aged woman came forward. Seeing her, Suzume immediately went over to her and knelt in front of her. "Kotone-sama, please... I swear that was the only logical solution... We were taught to put our mind before our heart and I swear I just abided by the Yoshida mantra... I..." "That's enough, Suzume." Kotone then raised her head to look at the other woman, who still had her hand in the air, looking at the younger woman with something akin to disgust. "Sasame, you might have ordered the Fuma out of the mission, but might I remind you that the Shiin, the Oberatsu and the Yoshida all agreed? I actually remember your husband being much honored for being called on this mission. You have no ground in lecturing us." Sasame gritted her teeth, her gaze drifting from the elder to Suzume. "If we have to run, let us run," she finally said, her voice tight. "But someone has to remain behind to cover our tracks." Her eyes held no mercy. "Kotone-sama..." Suzume whispered, looking at her with almost a plea. The elderly woman thought about it for a moment. "Even though you obeyed the Yoshida call, my child... Attacking a minor is still not in our book." The black haired woman's eyes widened, but she knew there would be no arguing to the point. "You will be punished... Of course, when you are finished, you will be allowed to rejoin us." Suzume bowed her head, gaze on the forest floor. "Yes, Kotone-sama." The elder woman then looked back at her clan. "Shall anyone wish to accompany her, I give my permission. Others, make your preparations quick. We are leaving." ... What... were all these...? The sannin felt his blood boiling as he gazed upon the Hokage's idea of 'childish pranks' on his son's door. To be fair, they were insignificant, he had seen much, so much worse during his seventy years of lifetime. But for a village that supposedly prided itself with its peaceful ways... They had no idea how this little drop would turn into a huge flood. His fists clenched a bit more, his teeth gritting as he looked at all of the images one by one, the words written... And he had actually believed that Konoha had changed for a better place. That was initially why he had decided to send Mitsuki back to his own village - that and his constant nagging. For one time in his life - foolishly, naively - he had believed in the young man who was now the Hokage - and even his own former teammate, Tsunade. He had thought that, as long as Mitsuki's identity was hidden, he would be safe and live the normal life he wanted - deserved all along. The red paint of the 'fire' stood out, almost mocking his thoughts. And his boy had still defended them. The image of Mitsuki, with all the severe injuries, once again came to his mind, and he closed his eyes for a minute, as if to not see the graffitis. He would make it his own ambition to make sure Konoha would crumble under the weight of his fury. His hands were shaking, the urge to kill, to make blood covering the streets rising. To make them pay... 'Please... spare... the village...' "We shall see how long I can hold on to that promise, child." Orochimaru murmured through gritted teeth and tried the door. It was locked of course, but it was hardly enough to stop him. The apartment was dark, cold and empty... Even more so now that it was missing his son. 'Come now, Mitsuki...' The sudden voice made the sannin do a double take. Where did that just come from? 'Repeat after me, sweetie... Da-ddy. Dad-dy. D... a... d... d... y...' He knew that voice... This was Karin... But how was that even possible - him hearing her voice from who knows how many years ago...? 'D... da... da...' came another, childish voice, stuttering over the basic word. 'That's right, go on. Daddy... call out for him.' Where was that voice coming from?! He started walking around the darkened house, looking around from room to room, following the childish jabbering. Just when he entered the bedroom... It was not enough to say that he was shocked when a small figure, a toddler about a year and a half of age at most, waddled his way towards him, stumbling, losing his balance and almost falling to the ground. After a couple more steps, the toddler started falling forward, but at the last moment managed to grab his legs. Although... he felt no weight. Then little Mitsuki looked up at him with a big grin, flashing a dozen of pearly-white teeth. 'Da-da!' he exclaimed gleefully and in excitement, before he slowly disappeared through thin air. The sannin closed his eyes for a moment... [Flashback] He was about ready to pull his hair off! It was not working. There was something very wrong with this experiment, and he was thinking this was all going good, the ‘donor’ was a good one after all, more than suitable. And during the nine months the fetus was in the tube, there had been nothing wrong - why now?! In a fit of rage - and without stopping to think what he would cause... the sannin let his fury explode. In less than a minute, the lab was lying in ruins... Broken glass, ruined wiring everywhere... Like a scene that was the aftermath of a battle... All... was lost after all... Just then he heard a strong sound, and his world came to a stop for a minute. A crying... a child... Or, more precisely, a new-born bawling his lungs out... Stunned, it took him another minute to get moving, but finally he moved through the broken tubes, to the one at the end of the left row... And there he was - the blue haired baby he watched growing for all this time... wailing so loud it was practically grating at his ears... More to just quiet him than anything, Orochimaru took the baby in his arms... Sniffling a bit, the baby slowly quieted down. [End of Flashback] Opening his eyes, the sannin sighed before mumbling to himself. "I should have never allowed you to come here..." ... A soft, orange light shone in the darkened room as a hand reached out to grab the phone that was ringing. A man with copper colored skin and blond hair squinted at the phone's screen while a woman with light brown hair half turned to look at him from his side. "What is it, baby?" "Naruto...?" Darui mumbled sleepily and pushed on the screen as he pressed a hand over his face. "You better have a good reason for calling me this early..." As he listened on, the young Raikage's eyes widened. "Goro and Hiraku?" Hearing that, his wife straightened up to a sitting position, putting a hand on his shoulder and leaning over. "No time to lose. I'm taking the first train over." He ended the call and hastily got up, getting ready. The woman got up, too, watching him. "Darui, what's going on?" Darui stopped in front of her and grabbed her arms. "Hitomi, I need to go to Konoha. Take care of Kumo in my absence." ... Looking over the vast clearing in the heart of the forest, Konohamaru felt his spirit failing. "We missed them...?" he mumbled, his eyes wide. "They didn't leave long ago." Kiba growled, his eyes scanning everywhere. "We can still follow them..." "That is not necessary." Ryu and two other ninjas who were scouting up ahead came towards them, excitement apparent in their eyes. "She is still here..." one of them started. "From what we saw, she is covering their tracks. There are two others with her, both kunoichi." "You can deal with them." Konohamaru said, determined. "Leave that woman to me." There was a pause. "Konohamaru..." Kakashi began. "Lord Sixth, please. All of you. Just make sure she doesn't run away, if your involvement becomes absolutely necessary. Otherwise stay out of my way, because I'm probably not gonna recognize you in the heat of the battle, so I can't guarantee your safety." Kakashi sighed but at his nod, no one said anything else. At Ryu's directions, the Konoha ninjas all took their places, getting out of sight. The gaze in the brunette's eyes hardened. "This is my fight."

Karaoke| Oikawa x Fem!Reader
Another reupload from my wattpad account! (name) finally convinces oikawa to take a break from his schedule and go on a date with her
--
It was finally, finally, Saturday. After weeks of Oikawa being busy with volleyball (and having plans with "Iwa-chan"), you finally convinced your boyfriend to clear his schedule and go on a date with you. Just the two of you and the cute karaoke place across town.
You put on a cute outfit and did your hair and makeup to the best of your ability, you couldn't let your gorgeous boyfriend look better than you obviously. You grabbed your phone and shot Oikawa a text, telling him to meet you at the bus station. He shot you a text saying a quick 'see ya there', and you were out the door with your purse in hand.
--
The walk to the bus was uneventful and you walked faster than normal, not wanting to be late. By the time you got there it was around noon and the sun was starting to make you sweat. You sat on the bench under the overhang for shade, and took out your phone to wait for your boyfriend.
"(Name)-chan!"
At the sound of your name being called and hearing the familiar voice, you turned your head in the direction of the voice, seeing Oikawa waving his hand in your direction. You noticed however, that his other hand was clasped by someone elses, his younger nephew.
Your face twitched a little at the appearance of the two of them instead of one, but you kept your cool knowing there was a reason. Completely ignoring your enthusiatic boyfriend, you turned to his nephew, giving him a smile and saying, " What's up little man, what are you doing here with Uncle Tooru?" Oikawa blanched at being ignored and sulked as you ignored him for his nephew. "Mom dropped me off at Auntie's house right as she was leaving, so she made Uncle Tooru take me with him."
You looked at Oikawa for confirmation and got a nod and an apologetic look in return. "I'm so sorry (Name)-chan I know you really wanted to go on this date." He looked genuinely upset at the possibility of you being mad and it flushed away all the annoyance you previously felt.
"It's completely fine, I haven't hung out with Takeru in a while anyways!" You smiled and patted Takeru's shoulder. "We were going to go to the karaoke place across town, does that sound fun?"
Takeru excited nodded his head and you smiled again looking towards Oikawa, he just chuckled and sat next to you on the bench.
You talked heatedly with Takeru about the most recent version of Power Rangers, you thought it was horrible having seen older versions, and he thought it was the coolest version out yet.
Oikawa zoned out, watching as you argued with his nephew. 'When did she become the childish one, I thought that was me?' He chuckled at his own joke and rested his head on his hand and watched, inputting his opinion one which Power Rangers was better when needed.
Eventually the bus got to the stop and you both paid for your tickets, Oikawa paying for Takeru as well. You took seat one of the two seaters next to Takeru, while Oikawa stood and held on to one of the dangling handles. The ride was full of Takeru talking about his volleyball practice with 'Uncle Tooru' and you and Oikawa mocking each other.
Finally, about 30 minutes later you arrived at your stop and you all got off, thanking the driver on the way out. You walked down the street hand-in-hand with Oikawa as Takeru ran ahead, yelling whenever he thought of something that came right mind.
Only half-listening to Takeru, you turned your attention to Oikawa. He nodded his head enthusiastically at his nephew and turned his head towards you. His face relaxed to a more apologetic one and he raised your clasped hand to his face, pressing his lips against your knuckle for a couple seconds before pulling it away.
"I know you already said it was okay, but I'm really sorry for having to bring Takeru on our date."
You chuckled and swung your hands back and forth in-between you. "It's really not a problem ya know? I did want to hang out with you, and I am, Takeru is just a bonus."
You grinned as you listen to him laugh, your stomach fluttering at the sound. You cursed at yourself for acting like a love struck teen, but in reality that's exactly what you were.
Finally, your trio got to the karaoke place and paid for a room. The room was small, about two or three times the size of your closet, and had sound proof walls, insuring that your horrible singing wouldn't be heard by others.
Takeru excitedly grabbed the tablet and in-putted the song he wanted to sing. You and Oikawa watched as he screamed the lyrics to the Pokemon theme song and jumped around the room, bouncing on and off of the couch cushions. Eventually the both of you joined in, Tooru straight up singing and you humming along and tapping your foot. Takeru ended his warm-up by dropping the mic (safely on a cushion because of Oikawa's nagging).
Oikawa quickly snagged the tablet before you could grab it and hastily tapped the song in, he looked at you to gauge you reaction and you just stared at him confused. Suddenly a familiar beat started playing, and you immediately scrambled to turn it off.
'There's some hoes in this house'
'There's some hoes in the house'
"Tooru I swear- give it-" You jumped on your toes trying to grab it from him, but he reached his long ass arms up pulling it out of your reach. He pulled his hand with the microphone in it to his mouth and continued singing.
"I said, certified freak. Seven days a week." You screeched and flung your hands to cover Takeru's ears. "Tooru please, the child is still pure."
"Wet ass pussy, make that pull-out game wEAK" His voice turned into a yelp as you jumped on his back, successfully grabbing the tablet and choosing a random song to turn off the previous one.
The rest of the karaoke session was full of lady gaga, Adele, and Beyoncé, Oikawa made you join in on all of them, and sprinkles of tv show intro songs, courtesy of Takeru. By the time it was over Takeru was passed out, and you and Oikawa had eaten 3 soft- serve ice creams each and 5 melon sodas. Oikawa picked up Takeru and put him on his back getting ready to leave as you cleaned up a bit.
--
The walk to the bus stop and the bus ride home was just you and Oikawa playfully messing with each other, albeit quietly not to wake up the sleeping energy-ball. You parted at the bus stop since your houses were in opposite directions. You grabbed his shoulder and he allowed himself to be tugged down to your height, letting you lightly kiss his cheek.
You walked back in the direction of your house and you glanced back hearing, "Bye (Name)-chan, get home safe!" You laughed and waved back at him, walking back home.
