I chuckled before looking back over at him. I quietly admired him before he leaned over to show me something on his phone.

He laughed. "Really Kenn."

I laughed with him.

"Nah I'm just playing", I hummed as I grabbed his phone. "We can go to this one."

"Alright", he said before putting his car in drive.

I handed him his phone back.

"Let me put my seatbelt on. Cause I remember you used to act like you was a Nascar driver", I hummed as I put my seatbelt on.

He just chuckled.

"Where you be going cause I don't never see you outside."

Please send them to my ask box! ---------- An unposted excerpt from Simulation Swarm. This was hard as hell to pick because I'm proud of a lot of the dialogue I have written up for it. I have a whole section just dedicated to dialogue blurbs for me to put in as needed!

They sit there in the window, staring out at the black as if Rebecca can see anything.

“I liked,” she starts, and then holds it in. It pinches in her shoulders like maybe she wants to laugh. “This’s gonna sound so stupid.”

“Honest, Bec? I don’t think anything can sound stupid right now,” he muses in reply. “It’s you, anyway. Nothing stupid about it.”

Something brief passes her face then. He can see it in the dark, the strange and still unfamiliar way his own eyes pull out what little light is left in the world to make out her round face and Winona Ryder pixie cut. For a moment, Leon thinks they’re just- somewhere else. And it’s become easier to think that, to escape just a little bit in words and pretending that their ‘what is’ is something else, a dream. Perhaps she shares that comfort, especially with how her fingertips drop to drum against the window ledge.

“I liked orchestral and all. But if I really wanted to focus or sleep- birdsong. Isn’t that dumb?”

A part of him wants to offer her protest again, but instead he just lets his face break into a faint smile as he shrugs, shakes his head.

“Like… birds making music, or just…”

“Just… birds. In the woods sometimes, you know, like on those archival sites for ornithologists to share all the stuff they had.” There’s something in Rebecca’s voice, in the way her face softens as she stares out, that’s entirely smitten, comfortable with the thought. He can’t bear to stop her. “I downloaded ‘em all on my iPod just to have it. And my favorite was this one bird. The uhm… Kauaʻi ʻōʻō? Yeah.”

“Why that one?”

“I dunno. I dunno! I just- there was something about it. It went extinct in ‘89, and I was just a kid then, I didn’t know. And I’ve been thinking about it, you know, how that’s just… it’s always gonna be there. The sound of it. Not even it, but a part of it. And we’ve been walking all this way and feeling like the world is ending. Well-” she chuckles, faintly.

“It is.” He offers for her, and she half shakes her head, tilts it to and fro like she’s saying ‘I guess’.

“Yeah. But still, there’s… there’s people. There’s still always gonna be people no matter what, I don’t care who or what started this again, or why this all happened- Umbrella, or some government, or some asshole- but there’s just always gonna be people. Somebody’s gonna always be makin’ bagels. And ice cream. And running trains, or trying to. There’s always gonna be people making music and people digging up old stuff.”

“And people listening to dead birds?”

once valentina started getting more uppity and well known in night city ($$$$$), she was able to help joss pay off randy’s medical bills and also helped joss re-enroll randy into school so he could graduate (also because she’s extra, she has delamain pick up and drop off all the kutcher kids at their respective schools so joss can go to work without worrying about getting them to and from school!) :’) valentina loves river’s family so much and she wants to let them live normal lives again after what happened with randy because she still has nightmares (as does river) about what she saw on that farm, so she can only imagine how bad it must be for randy ❤️‍🩹

it takes a lot to make venus cry tbh but the one thing that does make her cry is a cat, she loves cats SO much… she gets so emotional seeing cats on the street and likes to think in another life, she ran a rescue for kitties ☹️ so instead, while she was employed by arasaka, she would make a monthly donation to animal shelters around night city to help them with any surgeries or care they might need!!

she had a plushie her parents got for her before she was even born that she kept for most of her life and she took it with her EVERYWHEREEE truly one of her best friends... but when she moved out, she gave it to her grandmother for save keeping. but after her removal by arasaka, her whole family basically shunned her no matter how hard she tried to tell them otherwise, so even thinking about the small little pearlescent dragon brings back painful memories for her :(

vernon has a very mild temper, it takes a LOTTTTT to get him mad omg so definitely a slow boil!!

vernon is a nomad because he has basically lost every family he has known (his biological one, his adoptive one, etc.). vernon was given up for adoption as a baby by a couple who were unable to give him the life he deserved, so a close friend of his mother promised to raise him as their own. his nomad family was part of a small clan, removed from the seven nations that inhabit the NUSA and were located north were modern day vegas is. he grew up happy until he was about 18 when he was off working a seasonal job at some biotechnica plant, after the season was over, he returned to find his whole clan had basically been slaughtered, only a few members remained who were also returning from their seasonal jobs. so vernon and the remaining nomads gathered what they could of their family to honor them and eventually joined the bakkers which is where his story starts at the beginning of cyberpunk!!! (damn sorry for that long ass dissertation 💀)

👁 EYE - what color are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them? (shows emotions easily, literally magical...)?

Iris: Her eyes have this purplish blue tint, and if you look closer, you'll see one is a darker shade than the other!

What's odd about the is that her pupils become unnaturally large when preying. She is enjoying the hunt, after all. 👀

Her eyes are inspired by the eye color of Elizabeth Taylor. Also, her name is inspired by the iris flower that has a similar shade to her eyes.

The Patron: A really vibrant emerald or forest green. His eye color seems to shift between different shades of green so it's hard to determine the color.

At some angles, it seems to glow ominously, much like the eye of a cat.

Finley: No, a terrible liar but he can manage with a lot of struggling.

His tells are that he sweats a lot and avoids eye contact.

The Patron: YES, he is too good at lying... And considering he wears a mask, it's even harder to tell on his facial expressions.

However, if he starts enunciating his words a lot and talking slower means he's trying to convince you hardcore of his lies.

Odile: She definitely believes in ghosts. Has seen them, many who were her former victims and... him.

The Patron: The ghosts of the past? Sure. That houses shift, unaccustomed to new visitors? Yes. Real life apparitions? Not really. If he sees one, he'll believe it.

"Alice": is of the mindset "wants to believe but feels everything is bullshit." She enjoys watching ghost-hunting videos and believes the shadow people she sees are totally because of being sleep-deprived.

Iris: No. Doesn't cry.

Not before she was a killer or after.

Finley: He cries more out of frustration and anger rather than sadness.

Making fun of him or embarrassing him will do the trick into making him spill some angry tears.

Odile: cries at the drop of a hat. Extremely easily, too. She even cries when she's happy, angry, overwhelmed, etc.

Doesn't take much to make her cry. However, take her crying as a good sign because it means she feels comfortable and safe enough to cry openly in front of you.

"Alice": When she is drunk enough and alone in her apartment at 2 A.M.

In public, she'll only cry if someone makes her burst into laughter after a funny joke.

Finley: Only child and his relationship with his parents is bad. Finley actively hates them, and they've become estranged after he left home for university, but he still goes to Christmas to keep appearances.

The Patron: He has a family but lives alone and holds absolutely no contact with them. That's all I'll say. 👀

All of them are sleep-deprived, night owls that sleep at unholy hours so no.

What helps them sleep?

Iris: White noise. (aircon, cars quietly driving by, etc.) Absolute silence too.

Finley: A nice mug of hot cocoa with nutmeg and cinnamon, watching a bad movie/reading a crappy horror/crime novel late at night.

Odile: Being held and feeling warm, and safe. Being swallowed by blankets and pillows is a must.

The Patron: Soft jazz music from the other room.

It gives him such nostalgia for the simpler days of his parents doing fancy dinners at home, with classical or jazz music softly entering his bedroom when he was younger.

Drawing and reading helps too.

"Alice": … Listening to boyfriend ASMRs of guys who have nice, deep voices. People just whispering softly to her.

Needs background (rain noise, crackling of fire) noise to sleep.

Iris: good old fried eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, bread with fruit hagelslag (sprinkles), and pancakes with butter and honey. Coffee, black.

Finley: black pudding (sausage) with scrambled eggs and throw some waffles with a lot of maple syrup to make it unhealthy. Hot cocoa, too.

The Patron: integral bread with pâté (meat paste with herbs) or camembert cheese, and cranberry-pomegranate juice/almond milk with honey and nutmeg.

Odile: Not necessarily breakfast, but her comfort food would be zeama (Moldovan chicken soup) and plăcintă cu dovleac (moldovan pumpkin pie) with a nice and sweet chamomile tea.

"Alice": Arepas (dish made from ground corn dough) with a lot of cheese or tuna salad and pink lemonade.

It has his name sewed on its collar. It has lost most of the stuffing inside due to excessive hugging.

He still sleeps with it. If he lost it he would most probably be distraught by it.

Odile: She already lost all her childhood memories. Her dress is the only thing she owns of her past life.

She wouldn't know what to do if she lost it.

The Patron: An old children's book with fairtyales from all around the world. It is filled with beautiful illustrations on the inside.

He doesn't remember who gifted it to him. They wrote a little note dedicated to him when he was younger.

If he were to lose it, he would stop at nothing to try to at least find a copy of it.

"Alice": Her Nintendo 64 with many games. She worked various side-jobs to save enough money to buy it herself.

She'd probably pay crazy amounts of money to buy one again if she lost it completely.

Iris: She's indifferent to it. It's just another irrelevant day.

She has never really confessed to anyone but has gotten 1 or 2 confessions in her lifetime.

Finley: Hates Valentine's, finds it dumb and unnecessary. PDA (others doing it) makes him gag, and he gets more bitter than he already is.

Has been confessed to and has confessed to 1 person when he was like 9.

Odile: Likes Valentine's, the pretty colors and the meaning behind it!

Has been confessed to as a joke and has made confessions to a lot of her prince charmings.

The Patron: Loves Valentine's. It isn't necessarily a "couple's only day" for him as he takes himself on dates during it. It has artistic, cultural and historical value in his eyes.

Has been confessed and given confessions before.

"Alice": Indifferent but brings little sweethearts boxes to give to her acquaintances.

Hasn't been confessed to but has confessed multiple times when she was younger.

Odile: Being alone, being hated. Not finding anyone who would truly love and accept her. Her prince hating her.

The toaster freaks her out a little and big, dark bodies of water.

The Patron: What is worse? To know there is something after death (Heaven - Hell) or for there to be nothing? He's bothered by that.

He is easy to startle, so hiding and then jumping from your hiding spot would make him freeze before getting upset.

"Alice": Absolute darkness or getting doxxed.

She is scared of puking, more if it's done publicly.

Odile: is very volatile in her emotions. If she senses anything that might suggest you might leave her or your affection isn't up to par with how you treated her yesterday, she spirals HARD. Her anger is more directed at herself than anything. She doesn't tend to be violent to others unless they physically hurt her first.

Just hold her tight, and she'll ease down quickly.

The Patron: I answered this for him already! But TLDR: Takes a LOT to make him angry, but when he snaps, it ain't pretty.

Iris: fishing and camping with her dad...

Odile: OH BOY... there are a lot of them she remembers, many of which are bad memories.

A "light-hearted" bad memory: When the girls in her orphanage snuck a dirty magazine in her schoolbag and then told the nuns about it, she got punished quite severely afterwards.

Good memory: when she was gifted a sewing and embroidery kit from the priest that saved her, her first prince charming.

"Alice": Playing Super Mario 64, she would be glued on her screen for hours or days.

Also, when she saved enough money to buy a big kuromi plushie.

Bad memory... getting locked inside a school bathroom for hours.

Finley: If he really cares for the person, he'll be worried and offer silent support. He'll do what he can to ease their misfortune. If he is to blame, he'll feel guilty and ashamed.

Odile: ABSOLUTELY LOSING HER MIND AND WORRIED SICK. She'll immediately blame herself even if she had absolutely nothing to do with it. Gets even more upset if she can't help.

Iris: You take a picture of her, you die.

She is also not interested in photography.

However, he loves photography! His favorite things to take pictures of are of abandoned places and museums! Also, his muse <3

Finley, you aren't your parents. You'll never be your parents. Ease down and live. Truly live. Not everyone is out to get you.

Odile sweetheart, you are still a human. You were treated terribly and felt betrayed. Everyone lied to you, even if their intentions were good. But despite your actions being horrible and unforgivable, you deserved tenderness.

Finley: A geek, a boring loser nerd. A socially inept person who can't read the room and is oblivious to everything, forgetable. The little grey man. And they're right! Kinda...

He is pretty resentful and petty. He acts oblivious, but he is super aware of the things people say about him. A hypocrite and edgy. Can say super messed up and tactless stuff if provoked.

The Patron: Suave and charismatic but also extremely creepy. His presence is suffocating and ever-present. Eccentric. Probably a serial killer and rich. They're right.

Just a tiiiny warning... he can be quite sadistic even to those who are kind to him, likes to see them sweat and stumble. Might even mess with them by misplacing personal belongings or slightly moving furniture for them to trip.

"Alice": Comes across as a manic pixie dream girl: No sense of urgency, bubbly, quirky, and excited about the world.

However, this is a mask for her to hide her true feelings, which are much more nihilistic and pessimistic in nature. Don't let her attitude fool you. She has social anxiety and is very worn down by life. Secretly hates everyone and herself.

Iris: Huh, ideally... someone that goes with the flow (ride or die preferably) and isn't needy or clingy. Someone who gives her a lot of space and can handle her coldness. Doesn't demand too many things of her.

Love at first sight? No.

Finley: Someone really patient, and that shares his love for movies and horror. Isn't turned off by his mood swings or his cringe behavior and would stick with him through thick and thin. Someone he doesn't need to prove why he needs to be loved. They just love him for him...

No, that's dumb. You can like someone, but not love a complete stranger.

The Patron: Intellectual and passionate, eager to learn and teach. Open and understanding, in a way, a partner that checks on him to see if he is doing well as he tends to disregard his health at times. Firm but compassionate. Loves art and history as much as he does.

his eyes are a glowing gold, and vary in brightness with his emotions and magic use. they look like starlight trying to escape his body

lots of old superstitions that he learned from sidney growing up, most of them horse based: never leave put your hat on the bed, don't change a horse's name, hang a horseshoe in your home, wearing yellow is bad luck, don't compete with change in your pocket because that's all you'll win, knots in a horse's mane means they've been visited by the fey, brass protects from witches

We don't eat or sleep or none of that stuff, but, in order for their shapeshifting to be the most convincing and good, I have trained my siblings in the arts of shapeshifting teeth- we ain't got mouths usually- and biting stuff so as to appear like they're eating. They all have favorite things to chomp, hopefully that'll work for you :)

Idk how it can count as a headcannon since she's my own OC but Ellie didn't really have any friends before Miik and Jeth. She was the "weird kid" at school and all of the other kids tended to avoid her until she started "acting normal". There's a handful of kids who act way friendlier to her since she changed, but since they started liking her after she put up an insincere mask she doesn't really consider them true friends.

💔 BROKEN HEART - what could their partner do that would absolutely break their heart?

The worst thing Jeth's partner could do already happened :) and that's all I'm saying on that. (Spoilers!)

🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem?

Miik actually has quite a big family! The way xer species works is a lot like lions, in the sense that all the young are equally cared for by all the adults. Community has always been a very important thing to Miik because of that upbringing :]

Miik doesn't really have a lot of items or anything from childhood, but xe keep the location of the first tree they ever managed to scale once xer tail was strong enough :] it's a sort of right of passage in xer species to honor the first tree they can make it up on their own

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?

Felicia: Lies a lot cause she's always up to something and sometimes she's found out, sometimes she's not, usually she's found out only if things get very out of hand. She doesn't have any tells and is a very good actor

Maxwell: He would lie in the sense of playing a character I guess? The facade never lasts though

Charlie: He's not the best liar since he gets very fidgety and nervous when he does, but the actual truths that he tries to hide are outlandish enough to the people he's lying to that they wouldn't have guessed and so he gets away with it anyway

Sam: Very bad at lying. She finds it upsetting and might get so nervous about it she might cry

Amy: She would try so hard but she'd be the sort who would start smiling too much and not know what direction to look when lying so

Damian: He doesn't really lie much but if he did, he'd probably be the best at it. No tells, and since he lies very sparingly, he would only do so with some sort of plan in mind in case things go wrong

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

Felicia: Helplessness and shame. Not feeling in control can straight up make her feel physically ill and she feels shame as a result of feeling helpless

Maxwell: Guilt. He will assume everything is his own fault and if someone else hurts him he will believe that he did something to deserve it

Charlie: Also guilt but in a different way. He will feel responsibility for others and the harm that comes their way so overwhelmingly that it takes over his life

Sam: Loneliness and fear. I guess she has a lot of separation anxiety and will just implode if she doesn't connect with others enough and may quickly assume the worst has occurred (e.g. someone has become traumatized and distant as a result and she can't do anything about it) she's kind of similar to Charlie actually but she's more likely to cross other people's boundaries while Charlie gets his boundaries crossed

Amy: Envy. If she gets compared to someone else in a disapproving manner she'll act out and go even further away from what is expected of her. Like, oh, you think I'm a worse student than my sister? Just you wait and see just how much I can Fail

Damian: Happiness tbh. He'll assume something has gone wrong or that something will go wrong very soon. He doesn't know how to live in a state of actual security so it ironically makes him feel insecure

💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?

Felicia: She has no sleep schedule at all and will be out and around her living space at ungodly hours

Maxwell: He's just cringe as fuck. Also leaves hairpins everywhere

Charlie: Will spend too much money and time on fancy coffee and tea. You will find many jars of concoctions in the fridge

Sam: Anime merch everywhere

Amy: She will steal from you. Small things like food and pens probably

Damian: Frequently hear him mucking around on his instruments and when you try to talk to him he may not respond the first few times when he's engaged in the Music

Felicia: She has a lot of things. Plushies and old notebooks and the like. She would be p sad but they're not like That significant. Also her friendship bracelets, which to her mark a decision to try to change for the better but they are also a symbol of failure to her in some ways since she, hasn't really gotten better in the end. She would be rather distressed if she lost them but it might be good for her actually

Maxwell: A red anemone flower pin. It was a gift from Charlie and has a lot of sentiment tied to it. Seeing it reminds him of things that make him feel awfully guilty and sorrowful but he would also wear it all the time like some kind of memento mori thing I guess. He would be devastated if he lost it

Charlie: Also a red anemone flower pin, a matching one he got for himself. He has come to see it as a representation of a period of friendship that he and Maxwell can't ever return to even if they are still close. He would also be devastated if he lost it and it might actually fuck him up a bit

Sam: A few basic items that may seem mundane but were the few things she was able to grab when her family had to flee their old home. I think losing any of these things would make her old life feel even further lost.

Amy: She doesn't really have much from a very young age left, not of any significance. Everything has either been sold, given away or thrown out. She has a subconscious resentment about this, amongst other things

Damian: His first guitar. It's full of memories for him since his grandfather taught him how to play it, and his grandfather is very very important to him. He'd probably feel like part of his childhood and one of the few actually good parts vanished if he lost it.

🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?

Felicia: To be a good person, or a good person in her own mind. She is so convinced she is evil and broken

Maxwell: Right now, probably to be able to forget large portions of his life, or at least to be able to live with it

Charlie: To keep everyone he cares about safe and alive and healthy

Sam: Same as Charlie

Amy: To be free from disappointment and to feel more like a person than just an extension of other people

Damian: Just to be at ease

🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people?

Felicia: The fact her mind is often filled with images and thoughts of violent and harmful things and she can't control it

Maxwell: If it's the people he has to work for, it's the fact that he hates them and wants to just live a normal life. If it's the people he cares about, it's the fact that he has literally killed people and had for a long while given up on trying to resist the whims of the evil authorities with power over him

Charlie: He thinks himself a potential danger to anyone who starts to care about him too much and so he hides anything he thinks could bring about the danger

Sam: Just how much fear holds her back despite her desire to protect others, she believes herself a coward

Amy: Any ounce of insecurity or sign that an insult has gotten to her. Any sign that she does in fact feel inadequate, even in extreme situations

Damian: He's pretty honest but I suppose maybe his power hungry moments, though he's not entirely aware of them himself so he doesn't really deliberately try to keep people from seeing this ya feel

🔪 KNIFE - how do they react to injury / misfortune befalling their loved ones (significant other, family, friends)? do they put themselves at blame?

Felicia: She'll blame herself for sure if there is direct evidence that she was involved somehow and will question her own moral integrity for allowing such a thing to happen. A thing in her subconscious may also think the person who got hurt should have just Done Better and she will hate this thought

Maxwell: He will literally obsess over all the ways he could have prevented the thing from happening. The self blame will be Immense. He'll be able to pull himself together enough to help them but internally he'll be screaming

Charlie: Same as Maxwell but it happens so much more often that it will literally drive him into the worst of mental states

Sam: She may blame herself but will be able to focus on helping the person much more quickly. She'll blame herself more heavily if her efforts don't amount to what she hoped for.

Amy: She'll subconsciously blame herself but externally and within her own actual awareness she'll be like nahh not my fault no way. ye

Damian: He will most easily be able to divert his attention to problem solving and will take responsibility sometimes but in a like. diplomatic sort of way?? Emotions: squished

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

Felicia: She spawned originally as a side character who was supposed to have a bubbly outside demeanor but be hiding things

Maxwell: Started way back when I was 12 and back then he was one of the villain sidekicks in a comic about mice I wrote lmaoo. I kept blorbifying him as time passed and then eventually turned him into a human character. Then I wrote a fanfic for a series that shall not be named and when I left that fandom I wanted to keep the story but change the characters and he was similar enough to one of them that I substituted him in. Then the story evolved so much it is entirely unrecognizable from its original form.

Charlie: Was originally a character in the aforementioned fanfic and has always been Maxwell's love interest

Sam: Appeared as a random oc I made while bored in class

Amy: Same as Sam. They were created together

Damian: Also a fanfic character originally who strayed so far from canon and then went through like 4 more iterations.
