Hello, saw your posts about RWBY Characters' Allusions. A question, does team rwby have another character allusion?

A lot of characters have more than one allusion, and team RWBY is no different. These allusions often have a character fill a complementary role of a significant figure in another fairy tale.

Let's start with Ruby Rose. She is of course Little Red, but there are also other characters she embodies. The Wolf in the story is known for his big & shiny eyes, a very notable feature of Ruby (that was pointed out by Ozpin in the first episode, just like the fairy tale). She is also her own huntsman, equip with an "axe" weapon of her own.

Weiss Schnee is Snow White, but also takes other roles of the story based on her summons. Her Boartusk represents the huntsman, who killed a boar to spare the princess. Her Knight represents the noble prince who saves her. Her Queen Lancer represents the Evil Queen who plagues her. Weiss seems to take after the Evil Queen the most, with her friends often referring to her as "Ice Queen".

After reading those first two, you can probably now understand why Blake is based on both Beauty & the Beast. She has Belle's beauty, part of her name, her love for books, her relationship to "Adam" and her tendency to run away. But like the Beast, she has animal traits that she hides, is haunted by a rose, prefers living in isolation, and eventually falls in love with a human girl. She is often seen in Forever Fall, a forest with wilting red flowers, representing the wilting rose that curses the Beast.

Yang is Goldilocks with her destructive nature & yellow hair, but can also be seen as Baby Bear, the child of the Papa (Taiyang, blue eyes) & Mama (Raven, red eyes), resulting in Yang being a mix of both (purple eyes). Each parent compares Yang to the other, and she learns to embrace the good and bad traits of both in order to become "just right".

The tale of Rose Red & Snow White, two young girls based on Little Red & Snow White, can be the inspiration for the partnership between Ruby & Weiss. The two were sisters, which is represented by the ever-growing bond between Ruby & Weiss. Weiss's fairy tale, Snow White, could also be the reason for Ruby's theme, Red Like Roses, which is how the Evil Queen described how red she wants her lips in the original tale (in some stories she compares it to blood in the snow, both line up perfectly with the Red Trailer & Players & Pieces).

Weiss also represents the story of the Snow Queen. She is called Ice Queen. She has a male companion (Kai/Whitley) who is cold, distant, & rude. She sets off to find the Snow Queen (Winter) in V5, during her trip she meets a talking corvid (Raven) & a robber maiden (Vernal). Weiss also gets pierced by evil glass like Gerda.

Gerda’s most cherished memories is being young playing in the rose gardens with her friend. They shared many happy memories here. This rose garden takes the embodiment of Ruby Rose, who befriends Weiss & takes her on adventures. Weiss reminisces about Ruby in V4 after the attack on Beacon, missing the days when they had fun together. A frozen rose garden is seen in Weiss Character Short, representing her longing for Ruby (innocence, fun, freedom).

Blake & Yang have so many allusions when it comes to their relationship. Start with Beauty and Beast. Blake already shows traits of both Belle & the Beast, but Yang does as well. Her affiliation with yellow, adventure, bright energy, & beauty is reminiscent of Belle. The Red Trailer even directly ties her with Blake, calling her the beauty to her beast. Yet Yang also displays signs of the Beast, most notably her behavior when she is angry. She sparks fire red eyes similar to the monstrous Grimm they fight, and is the most aggressive fighter of the group. She receives an injury on her arm identical to the Beast. Most importantly, she is abandoned by Beauty in V3. This theme of having similar & different traits within one another ties into another dynamic that will be explained later.

There are two roses that bring them together. They meet through Ruby, the good rose Yang gives to Blake. Adam is the bad rose that Blake tries to keep away from Yang, but he breaks them. Adam starts off as the Beast (Adam) to Blake’s Beauty. Once she leaves him (like the fairy tale) he then embodies the Rose that haunts her. Once he meets Blake’s new partner, he then becomes Gaston & adopts his jealousy. Once Blake & Yang defeat him, they free themselves from the curse and come back to the Good Rose.

Blake & Yang also represent the Yin & Yang dynamic. We have the darkness (Blake) and the light (Yang), with a little bit of each other in each (matching eyes). Many cultures depict Yin as a tiger (Blake's cat ears) and Yang as a dragon (Xiao Long). The themes of darkness and light has been associated with Blake & Yang since their trailers. Blake engulfs in darkness when she leaves, while Yang brings light when she enters (kind of like their semblances). Scenes with Blake & Yang play with lighting a lot (2x06, 6x01, 9x06), and fights involving them often have them circling around each other or moving across each other, just like the Yin Yang Symbol.

Team RWBY as a whole also has references. One commonly known reference is the Wizard of Oz crew, with Ruby acting as Dorothy (who had Ruby/Silver slippers). Weiss is the Tin Man who gains heart while the real one loses it (Ironwood), Blake is the Lion who gains courage while the real one loses it (Lionheart), and Yang is the Scarecrow who learns to fight smarter while the real one acts irrationally (Qrow). These four adventurers set off to Beacon (Land of Oz), meet the Wizard (Ozpin), and get their wishes (graduating). They are told to stay on the Yellow Road, but fail.

The team's respective Remnants also allude to their fairy tales. Ruby sheds roses, representing her red color scheme, her youthful innocence, and the flowers Little Red picks for her grandmother. Weiss sheds snow, representing her white color scheme, her cold attitude, and Snowhite's soft skin that gave her the name. Blake sheds shadows, representing her black color scheme, her dark personality and background, and the Beast condemned to the shadows. Yang sheds fire, representing her yellow color scheme, her bright but scorching personality, and the porridge Goldilocks claimed was "too hot".

Ruby represents multiple figures from others characters’ allusions. Penny is based on Pinocchio, who wishes on a Shooting Star to be a real human. Ruby, who is often characterized as a small flickering light (literally & figuratively) she represents the star that Penny wishes for & makes her feel human (literally & figuratively).

2x07 Dance Dance Infiltration is a retelling of the Cinderella story. The maiden is told she needs to return by midnight, puts on a disguise, & goes off. Ruby tracks her, Cinderella enters the stage, the two dance, and she leaves without a trace. Ruby in this case represents the Prince that wants to find the mysterious maiden he danced with the night before. His only clue was her missing glass slipper. Cinder fights with glass, a point Ruby reports to her professors as information to track her down.

There's a lot more micro references to other fairy tales but these are the most notable for Team RWBY. These references influence how a character is portrayed, how they interact with others, and the actions they take.

he is someone that’s a very harmonious person if that makes sense? he dislikes arguments, fights and disagreements. it’s not that he won’t confront them, he will. he enjoys talking things out and trying out things that are challenging but might help him grow. it’s just that he could prefer a straightforward communication and not immediately jumping to conclusions & getting offended over nothing. he is still a very playful, sweet, understanding and kind person who watches out for other people’s needs and feelings but there seems to be a certain level of maturity that he prefers to have in relationships, wether it’s platonic or romantic. for now he also seems to prefer platonic relationships, as in focusing on his friendships and family. there might be something that intimidates him about romance for now, or making new connections in general. he might just want to make sure that his loved ones he is already close to know that he loves and appreciates them. so, overall he just values his friends a lot, maybe has a fear of loosing them even if nothing suggests that it will happen. though! he does seem to value and appreciate romance, in fact he might even think of things so romantic that it’s perplexing. of course, healthy daydreams for his age, it’s just that he has a very high standard for romantic experiences. maybe he is fond of soulmate trope or ‘one and only’ trope. (if you have ever seen the video of cha eunwoo saying he will have the best honeymoon in the entire world imagine that energy trippled and you have sunghoon’s idea of romance.) his desires seem to be very idealistic and ones you see in movies or dramas. (fireworks going off when you have your first kiss) this could be because he isn’t too experienced (or at all, really.. in anything.) so he still have this wonder and strong hope in himself towards something great. so, it’s not that he despises romance, quite the opposite, rather he just wants to keep his thoughts and preferences private and only act upon them when the timing is right. for now he wants to be affectionate with his friends and make his parents proud, perhaps even be a good role model to his little sister. so being disciplined, hard working, well mannered and polite is something that seems very important to him. but he is also someone playful, sweet, kind, thoughtful, considerate. there seems to be an innocence to him too, just being a pure and sweet person. (i of course know he is a grown man, i am not saying he is uneducated or clueless, regardless he is a very pure person.)

Kibbe Observations

Theatrical Romantics often have distinct husky voices. Morgan Fairchild, Jane Seymour, Salma Hayek, Mila Kunis (if you watch Black Swan you can listen to her speak at a lower pitch, people who have husky voices sound shrill when they speak at a higher pitch which is how Mila usually speaks)

I feel like every Kibbe type has a few celebs who intuitively always dress for their type and a bunch of others who absolutely never do lol.

Sofia Vergara, Kelly Brook, Ava Gardner, Christina Hendricks etc are Soft Dramatics who almost always wear their lines.

Salma Hayek, Joan Collins are TRs who pretty much embody TR glam most of the time.

3. Kibbe is based on vibes someone gives off, more than you would think. There are certain criteria that has to be met for each type but there are exceptions, always!!

Audrey Hepburn was 5'7 but she's a true Gamine. It's rare to see a tall Gamine but it's not impossible

Beyonce is also 5'7 but she's a Romantic even though most Romantics are short.

4. Kibbe is about image identity. That means the image you project. You can analyse the length & breadth of someone's shoulders & calves all you like but your image identity is MORE than that. I'll use an example. Mila Kunis & Sarah Hyland, pretty much look like sisters yet the vibes they give off are different.

Mila Kunis has a very sultry, sensuous "femme fatale" essence (she's verified TR) but Sarah Hyland has a more innocent but kind of mischievous, more youthful vibe. You can easily see that Mila has a more "dark feminine" energy whereas although Sarah has similar coloring and features, she still feels more light feminine.

Here she is in a very TR-esque outfit but something feels off

This outfit would look really weird on a lot of people (a tutu skirt for God's sake 😭) but she looks good in it

in this dress however, she looks like a kid who wore a grown up dress. her youthful vibe contrasts the heavy romantic vibes of this dress

However, here she looks like a complete doll. again, this look seems to suit her in a way it wouldn't suit most people.

This dress is a little too intense for her.

However she looks great here!!

I would say she's Soft Gamine

She has Gamine essence and it's the kind of styling that looks best on her

Let's compare her to Mila Kunis now

Mila, kinda looks like she's wearing a costume here. It looks very off.

Here she's in a very Romantic outfit with a dash of glamour and she looks greattt

Tea length dresses only look good on Gamines imo and here Mila looks very out of place

despite being very short, tea length dresses, even in a more Dramatic style, does not seem to suit Mila

Here she is, in a very TR look and it really harmonizes all her features and attributes.

this dress would be more flattering on a Natural type but Mila does not look like herself here

aside from the fact that this dress needed some ironing, this is probably the most TR look Mila has ever worn and it really makes her shine

5. In order to be SD, you need to have a T shaped silhouette. Broad shoulders, small waist and proportionately small hips. SDs are not "tall TRs".

6. Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello are my SD power couple

its sooo easy to tell that they both have similar essences and project a similar image

however, here she is with her former fiancee Nick Loeb. Sofia's overpowering Dramatic essence makes her stand out and she almost looks out of place next to Nick, who is FN. Their essences clash with each other and make them kind of awkward looking together.

There is a meme about how Brad Pitt imitates the women he's with. Let's see how he channels his different essences with different women.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt are both Naturals (FN & SN) with Dramatic/Romantic essence

Together they project a very larger than life, powerful, strong and intense vibe

Here he is, with Jennifer Aniston. as a couple, they project a more grounded, couple-next door, warm vibe. they're like the cool couple on a college campus, two hot people who look good together but in a very earthy, grounded way. Jennifer Aniston is also a Natural (SN)

Brad has Dramatic essence however Jen is pure Natural. so while Brad can pull off a more intense styling, Jen would look kinda out of place in it.

The dress and leather in general is too overpowering on her

However, she really shines in outfits like these that let her true essence be reflected. everybody, especially in the last couple of years, has been imitating Rachel Green (and 90s style in general) but imo, its most flattering on Naturals because of the way clothes were designed in that decade.

Here he is with Gwyneth Paltrow. Gwyneth is yet another Natural (FN) but she has Classic essence. The thing about possessing Classic essence is that you have a perfect yin-yang balance, so nothing stands out individually since everything blends together perfectly. Brad & Gwyneth together sort of bleed into each other, their essences don't contrast each other in anyway, they almost look like siblings😭😭😭 , there is no visible polarity at play.

Brad was with 3 different Natural women yet they all projected a very distinct vibe because of their very different essences.

7. kibbe is about image and how other perceive you. its futile to obsess over width and breadth and circumference and what not. dont miss the forest for the trees. also, there is a lot of variety within each type, not all Soft Classics look the same and not every Gamine is going to look great in tea length dresses. every individual is unique.

Amy Adams is FN but she's only 5'2. imo, she has a blend of Natural+Classic essence.

IMO, she was horribly miscast in Enchantment. She does not possess the wide-eyed, gullible "ingenue" essence necessary to play a lost princess. i just wasn't convinced that she's this naive, innocent princess because Amy exhibits a more world-wise, mature and "no-nonsense" vibe.

be it in American Hustle, Arrival or Sharp Objects, she plays characters that seem to fit her like a glove. She's just very convincing in these type of roles because she seems like a grown up who knows what to do and how to get things done. She does not have the air of a ditzy, confused damsel in distress

here's Isla Fisher. i specifically chose Isla because her & Amy kind of look alike but their essences are vastly different from each other.

Isla is a verified Romantic and has Romantic + Ingenue essence and she's perfect in films like Confessions of a Shopaholic because she's convincing as a ditzy airhead who is slightly naive and very confused. (this being one manifestation of the ingenue essence) if you look at her career, she's by and large done a lot of romcoms. It's hard to imagine her in a show like Sharp Objects or a movie like Arrival because the image she projects is far more youthful and sweet.

8. there is a reason why kibbe has its roots in old hollywood. old hollywood studio system manufactured stars the way kpop companies manufacture idols today. the were assigned an image to project and each star managed by the company had their own unique appeal that set them apart from the rest. lauren bacall projects an aura thats entirely different from audrey hepburn or marilyn monroe. liz taylor is completely different from gene tierney. most big stars in those days possessed Dramatic essence, simply because Dramatic essence makes people stand out easily. its a very large, strong, intense essence and gives the individual an edge. but the market created space for all kind of stars, there were actors who had a more boy/girl next door aura, femme/homme fatale aura, a quirky,funny aura and more. these days, cinema in general lacks big stars. imo there hasn't been a truly big star in maybe the last 20 years or so of cinema because no one's projecting an image that appropriately fits them.

however, pop music has had many icons and a huge part of their success is their image. be it taylor swift or nicki minaj or even BTS. people connect to them because they have a stable image identity for others to connect to. they have lore, they switch things up and keep things interesting but there's a bedrock that is unchanging and thats what makes them "stars".

A few weeks have passed in which Michael and (Y/N) have interacted more comfortably and become closer than at the beginning, of course, (Y/N) has not stopped being someone with a lot of energy when seeing new things, while the blond boy considers that little voice somewhat annoying, it is not because he dislikes it, rather he has not wanted to attract the attention of the Bullies, he always ends up in the direction or if there are blows included, he ends up suspended, and the scolding at home is not very pleasant So let's say, things have been tense there and Michael is breeding a little bit of negativity inside him, if it wasn't for (Y/N), he would have put his full attention on it with no distractions.

They were both in a small park after school, they both agreed not to go home so late and enjoy the afternoon —I'm telling you! In my country they don't celebrate February 14 as enthusiastically as they do here, and that's 1 week away—  (Y/N) was casually telling his friend about the upcoming date.

Michael shrugged indifferently, he's never had someone special to give something to, he was the outcast, he only had his mother but there was also a special date for that and certainly his older sister doesn't care —I'm not interested in those dates , they are for fools— The boy quietly put his hands in his pockets.

—Hey, it's not for fools, my mom says you should give something to someone in particular, it's not necessarily someone you like, tell me— She looked curiously with those big eyes and an impulsive question crossed her mind.

—Is there someone you love?— Myers abruptly raised an eyebrow at the girl's question, why did she suddenly change the subject? that girl... although he stopped for a moment and looked at her, what was that on her chest when he thought of...? The boy frantically shook his head before his cheeks betrayed him.

—Meh, I don't have, I can stand you, I don't want a headache with something silly— He said mockingly with a mischievous face, to which (Y/N) frowned and put his hands on his waist in a indignant gesture after Michael scoffed that she was a pain in the ass

—What do you mean!? You're the fool,— she said defensively as they began to run.

Michael couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction. He loved to make her angry just to see the funny faces he would make of her with her little face.

—Am I the fool?— You're the one who doesn't stop talking about cheesy things like Valentine's Day, — he replied sarcastically.

—It's not cheesy!— It's a special date to give something to someone you care about—replied (Y/N) frowning more.

—Yeah, sure, it's very important to silly girls like you,— Michael sneered, and before she could reply, he ran off laughing.

—Michael!— Come here!— she yelled (Y/N) and started running after him, both zigzagging between the trees of the park.

Michael turned from time to time to check that he was being followed and laugh more heartily. He was fascinated by the way they seemed to challenge and chase each other like two mischievous childhood friends.

Finally, tired of running, (Y/N) stopped and sat down on the grass to catch her breath. Michael returned and sat down next to her, a smirk still on his lips.

—You're a cheater,— she said (Y/N) giving him a small tap on her shoulder.

—You're a bad loser,— Michael replied, and they both burst out laughing, unable to maintain the angry facade any longer.

—Well, well, then... Shall we ruin that day? I mean... if that celebration is so silly for you— (Y/N) said amused, the boy's influence was slowly making her do more daring or unimaginable things for her Although she did not deny that this was more fun than following the orders of her parents or older brothers, she observed the amused face of the blond boy, he had a face of complicity.

—Wow, you're more evil than you look!— Michael said jokingly, but they both started walking home, Michael planned many ideas in which to prank others, things...somewhat creepy, but he wanted approval of (Y/N)

—Every day after class... we'll go to my room to plan to ruin that day, whether you like it or not, understood?— Myers suddenly said and with a happy smile, the little girl nodded.

—Hey, I was the one who suggested that, don't take all the credit— (Y/N) she said in protest, her leadership change annoyed her, but Myers ignored her

—Come on, my ideas are better, or did you want to do that with your scary baby ideas?— He annoyed her knowing her reaction

—I'm not a scared baby! I'm in the plan!— She said firmly as she hit his shoulder to show her strength, not because she was a girl was she going to back down from a challenge 

—But...— (Y/N) said suddenly —Let it be a secret… I don't want my family to find out, it could ruin things— The young woman mentioned when they reached the front of the Myers house

 —Calm down, crying baby, it will be our secret— He said, moving away from her, entering his house, listening the screams of the young

—I'm not a crybaby! I saved you from the bullies, Michael!— She said indignantly as she went to her own house, but inside she was happy. What does it matter if he wasn't interested in the 14th of February? After all, she will have a good time and finally she has a secret of friends, which made her feel excited.

She quickly got to her room after being stopped by her mother and doing the same routine as always. Maybe if she brought a couple of ideas tomorrow afternoon, they could be useful, after all, that's what friends do right? .

Meanwhile, Michael Myers saw his mother conversing on the phone with a man very sweetly ignoring the greeting he gave his mother, he frowned and ran quickly to his room, the gears began to work in his mind and he had planned some how many things, include guts and blood, maybe you would get it with some forest animals, or you can also cut some things up and wrap them in packages!, there are so many ideas that he immediately went to work more enthusiastically than before, Al finally he was not alone! there is someone else with whom you are encouraged to do these things. A little smile crossed his face when he thought of that “annoying” girl, at last he didn't feel alone at school...

Suddenly he heard a knock on the door of his room 

—Hey!, you look more enthusiastic, Mike, a declaration of love?— She was Michael's older sister, he frowned when he felt that she interrupted his thoughts

—Leave me alone!— Michael said angrily to his sister when he knocked on the door and she only answered him between laughs and jeers until he kicked her out of his room, going back to what he had, he focused again on his plans to ruin Valentine's Day.

He was excited that someone wanted to join in on his antics, especially (Y/N). Although he didn't like the kitsch of that day, he was intrigued to plan something together, it was the first time someone wanted to do something like that with him and they didn't accuse him with adults.

The next day, he waited for (Y/N) after school. She approached excitedly. —Hello Michael, I already have some ideas,— she said smiling. He nodded. —Let's go to my house, my mom is not here, she went out with another man— He said something annoyed, but he quickly recovered and they ran without rest.

Once in Michael's room, (Y/N) pulled out the ideas she had written down. He frowned as he read them and kept from rolling his eyes in annoyance. —They're too soft,— he complained. —I told you I have better plans.—

—I know, but… — (Y/N) hesitated. Michael was beginning to lose patience.

—Come on, trust me. We will ruin that day like never before— Michael said with a crooked smile that (Y/N) found a little scary. She nodded slowly.

Michael proceeded to explain her sadistic plans: wrapping nasty things as gifts, scattering red paint down the halls, even trapping animals to put in lockers. (Y/N) listened to him with wide eyes, those plans went beyond innocent pranks. But she had already agreed to join Michael, she didn't want to look like a coward, plus she has always been true to her promises, no matter what. She with false emotion she said: —I'm in, we'll make those plans.—

Michael smirked. Both shook hands sealing their alliance...

In my head, this is like his perfect match.

If your shyness is anything like mine, you don't go up to anyone unless they look like they could use help, like cheering up or groceries, or moving stuff.

So he'd notice you over time; either in the same hallway walking with your friends and laughing, trying to cheer up a fellow brother/sister of sin who didn't have that sparkle in their eye, helping someone who is carrying cleaning supplies or a whole bunch of paperwork or all these grocery bags.

He's a ghoul, a demon, he can totally carry all these bags by himself but he sees you in the hallway and he just automatically needs help. 

Like "Oh my lucifer these are so heavy. Y/N! Can you help me please?"

The smile behind his mask as you help him without thinking about his unnatural strength is huge.

He'll make conversation while you help him, asking questions, anything to get you to talk really.

He'll go searching for you afterwards. Every day. Even just to say "Hi" or do something to make you laugh.

If you say, "It seems like you search me out now, haha"

He'll reply with, "You make everyone smile, I wanted to do the same with you."

Whenever there's no Clergy business he's with you so you two get closer and he sees more of your personality come through, there's no hope for him, he'd fall, and within a few months, you two would be together.

With his playfulness, you'd both pull pranks on others, but also each other. If a prank you both pull happens to be on one of the Papa's (all of the papas are alive in my world) and you get caught, it's like Scooby and Shaggy trying to hide behind each other until he runs away. 

And if it's on either one of you, there's no "It's one prank and you both laugh about it." Nah it's "This means war."

If by a "MENACE to society" you mean an absolute brat to everyone you're close to, like me, then he's always chasing you around trying to get you back for something you did. 

He's calmly drinking his beverage and you come along and move the arm he's drinking with making him spill his drink, you can tell he's giving you THE LOOK under his mask.

Run far, fast, do zigzags, climb and if he doesn't get you, be cautious, be very cautious. 

You two are always around each other which means you are also around the other Ghouls, you've gotten to be friends with a lot of them but you and Dew, ya just get each other. 

He's the one that helps you prank Swiss. He comes up with ideas if you can't think of anything and destroys the evidence.

Always flipping each other off when you pass in the hall, you with a smile or, if you're feeling it, with your tongue sticking out.

I can see Swiss pouting when you go to spend time with Dew, he'd hug you and you'd have to push yourself out of his hold or call Aether or Mountain to pry him off you.

Like you're a funny pain in the ass, but you are HIS funny pain in the ass.

Dew teases him on it too, it starts one of those girly slap fights that always make you fall on your ass laughing.

You watch a swiss TikTok that's just him shimmying and for a minute you think it's a good idea to Shimmy him so you can see his reaction.

Bad idea.

He shimmies back, and if you blush, the shimmy gets harder till you cover your face which makes him laugh while he wraps you up in his arms, "You can't out shimmy the King, baby."

He'd honestly fucking love you.

Rough Hunt

TW: Mentions of Kids in Danger

It’s been one of those hunts, ones that took out almost all of my energy. To say I was exhausted was an understatement. However, I was also shaken up. We were dealing with a changeling and some of the children in the town that were taken…they were as young as infants.

We were able to get the children back to their homes safely, but hearing the loud cries of the two babies that were kidnapped and from the kids, it just hit hard. I was very protective of the innocent, and needless to say I got a bit carried away when we finally got to kill the damn changeling.

Dean turned the music down while we drove back to the bunker, knowing that I am emotionally drained after that hunt. Sam was in the back seat with me, stroking my hair while he looked out the window, my head resting in his lap like it was a pillow.

Both boys knew me well and what I needed to help put my mind at ease.

We finally got to the bunker. I tried to sit up but my body was not having any of it. Sam looked at me, giving me a sympathetic smile before getting out of the car and picking me up bridal style. I rested my head in the crook of his neck, one arm wrapped around it to keep my balance. We got inside and Dean said, “Hitting the sack you two?”

“Yeah, it seems like it,” Sam said, “Today was…rough.”

“I get it. You two kids get some rest…especially you Y/N.”

I looked up at Dean and gave him a little smile. He acted all tough a lot of the time but he’s always treated me like his little sister. He was the big brother I never knew I needed.

Sam continued to carry me until we got to our bedroom, where he laid me down gently. “Do you wanna get in your PJs?”

I shook my head, grabbing the covers and pulling it over my body. Sam, meanwhile, got into his PJs (and by that I mean just his boxers as the Kansas summer weather was brutal) and joined me, holding me close as my back rested against his chest.

We just laid there in a comfortable silence. He was waiting for me to speak first, but I honestly didn’t know what to say. The cries kept ringing in my head and next thing I knew, I began to start crying.

“Make it stop…please!”

Sam quickly sat up, pulling me with him as he held me and rocked back and forth to try to soothe me. He rubbed my back and gave me a little kiss on my head. We stayed like that for a few minutes until I finally began to calm down.

“What kills me is…the screaming…there were literal babies there…the cries…”

My bottom lip trembled a bit as I looked up at Sam. He had a sympathetic look on his face, sad that he couldn’t do much.

“You wanna know something?” he said, “It did bother me too…I kept thinking…when my mom died…and the distress Dad and Dean felt, I had those feelings with this case. I don’t think it’ll ever compare to what happened to me but…I get an idea.”

I brushed some of Sam’s hair out of his face, cupping his cheek with my hand and stroking it. I saw him smile a little before pulling me in close again, his head resting on mine.

Hunting can be rough, but Sam’s always there for me when I need that comfort.

Tell us about Tokogami lad

WELL SINCE YOU ASKED (what have you done)

Kyaruka Tokogami was once known as "The Nightmare Hashira" but is now affectionately named "The Demon Hashira" due to him being the only Hashira that has turned into a demon and stayed in the Corps.

He's the younger brother to Kyaruka Momoka, The Star Pillar, and is constantly under her watchful protection.

Tokogami is described as being charismatic yet a little awkward. Some say he's a bit intimidating when you first meet him but once you talk to him he's quite friendly! He tends to be quiet by nature and is very expressive, though if you get him in front of the right people, he can be quite loud.

He looks up to Sanemi and Rengoku a lot, which explains a little bit of his personality.

Toko always wants to make friends, because he finds himself always feeling lonely, especially since he can't go outside. But in the same vein, he doesn't want to be a hindrance to anyone unnecessarily, so he keeps to himself most of the time.

Tokogami was forcefully turned into a demon by Muzan with the expectation that he would follow command and become an Uppermoon. But he fights off Muzan's command fueled by the love he has love for his sister and the desire he had to protect his friends, his inferiors and the innocent. He doesn't have outbursts that much because he learned to control himself a lot more.

Though, Toko's demon transformation happened within the same week he became a Hashira. He had to keep it a secret from the others. Until Ubuyashiki found out and managed to convince Tokogami to tell the other Hashira, or at least just Shinobu.

Shinobu wasn't very phased by the information, revealing she had suspicions of it the whole time.

Telling the others however, was a completely different monster to tackle. But through the help of Ubuyashiki, telling the other Hashira went as smoothly as it could. Though that didn't stop Sanemi from threatening his life every now and again.

Tokogami cannot go out during the day as much as he wants to. It makes him sorta depressed sometimes but it's something he learned to live with. Due to this, he tends to ask his inferiors to do him favors that he'd usually do himself, like picking his favorite fruit or his favorite flowers or running errands for him. He tries to repay them as quickly as possible. He usually feels very guilty about making them do all the work.

His approach to his job is commonly criticized because sometimes he can come off as a little too careless or nonchalant. That's usually because lower demons are just ants to him and they don't take much to defeat. So he doesn't see the merit in wasting extra energy trying to seem bothered by their presence. Though he can take things seriously but when he does he just becomes a straight up lunatic. He always opts to making a demon's death quick yet painful. He'll go to absurd lengths to prove he's not messing around.

Tokogami views Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke as younger brothers or cousins, as they reminded him of his own. They had parallel personalities and everything. Toko promised himself that he'd never let any of them get hurt.

He also has a similar view of Muichiro and Genya. Though for Genya, it was a lot more personal, as one of his siblings was exactly like him in every aspect.

His love language is mostly acts of service and spending time. He likes making people gifts as a means of telling them he appreciates them. He also loves listening to people talk, whether to vent or to talk about something they're passionate about.

Other snippets:

• Tokogami's training is focused mainly on focus and agility.

• Nightmare Breathing has 6 forms, as far as he's aware.

• Tokogami became a Hashira when he was 18. His sister started at the same age.

• He's really good friends with Mitsuri, Rengoku and Tengen!

• Cutting off his head doesn't kill him. At the current moment, nobody knows what would kill him. (Not even me tbh)

• Toko really wants to befriend Kanao but is just as socially awkward as she is.

I think I should write out a spread of what I think of each character in Umineko just to make things clear.

George- Nice guy, respect his determination and will to be with Shannon, would like it if the games could stop fucking him over. But...I feel like he’s gonna take a dark turn.

Jessica- Really cute but also very tragic, a lot of respect for her conviction and staunchness of character.

Maria- Tragic and abused child likely scarred for life by her mother’s inepititude and abuse. Her belief in witches has done nothing to help her as it’s encouraged a violent and hateful mindset.

Krauss- Bit of a dumbass, definitely has an inferiority complex about Kinzo and it has lead him to finnicial ruin. Though I suspect his redemption is coming.

Natushi- A wondefully strong woman that has earned my respect. Though Episode 5 does not look good for her so far.

Eva- A tragic case of ‘you either die as a hero or live long enough to become a villain’. There seems to be good reason why she dies early in most Epsiodes- the sexism and toxicity of the family has eroded her mind, making it very easy for her to fall into hatred, pride and envy.

Hideyoshi- A great husband and father whose done nothing but work with what he’s been dealt.

Rudolf- ... Honestly not much I can say. He’s shown a playboy-like side and yet a faithful husband-like side. But I feel like the game has barely touched him. Same with Kyrie- I know she hates Asumu, loves Rudolf and Battler and hates how her former love rival still got through her. But she still feels unexplored.

Rosa- A very odd case. A terrible mother through and through, having abused Maria to the point of ripping apart a beloved gift she made for her daughter, something she called her best friend, and clearly tramuatizing her daughter all because of her own pride and fragile ego. Yet she stared down a small platoon of demon goat butlers, dying to protect that same daughter and even throwing away her pride to try and save her. 

Kinzo- Fucking asshole. I don’t really feel much for him other than hatred for causing the events and some small respect for his ability to turn the tables.

Genji- He did good giving Shannon and Kanon peaceful deaths and Kinzo doesn’t deserve him.

Kanon- Honestly wasn’t a fan of his pairing with Jessica in the first Episode but they did a really good job making him anguished and desperate while stilling honorable in the second Episodes onward.

Shannon- Honestly. I like her for dissing Beatrice and for finding peace in her deaths.

Kurawasa- Funny but I’m eying her ass.

Gohda- A fairly okay guy whose a bit bland but also I can see why he sticks by the family.

Virgillia- I’m still holding a small grudge for her betrayal from Episode 3 and laughed as her little goat butler died in Episode 4.

Ronove- Honestly don’t know what to make of him. He’s polite and respectful and honorable. But something about his ettiqute makes me think it could be an act to bide time to get an upper hand on people.

Gaap- Nice tits.

Ange- A sad but true future that will happen if Battler fails. She deserved better than she got.

The Seven Sisters- Eh. Their bond with Ange is really sweet.

Lambdadelta- Really scared. I do not want to face her down.

Berkanstel- Fuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyou-

Beatrice- I have no fucking clue. She’s delighted in torturing seemingly innocent people for fun but so easily shows a hurt, remorseful or even honorable side. I kind of just want to put her out of her misery at this point.

Battler- A man who is simutaineously dumb and smart, weak and strong, stubborn and wavering- I have to assume these conflicting elements are intentional.

As of Episode 5, Chapter 2- these are my thoughts. Not being very analytical here because an actual analysis would take more energy than I got right now. Also my thoughts on Battler and Beatrice are very likely to shift and change given their central character status.

A combined May and June book list because work was too busy for me to have any extra time or energy for reading. Now that things have slackened a bit though I've been able to start picking up more things! It feels so good to sit down with a book again and just read for the pure joy of it. Still, despite a lack of time I did read a few really cute books over the past couple months.

Doctor Who: 13 Doctors 13 Stories

A collection of Doctor Who short stories that was honestly just a lot of fun. Each story features a different Doctor, so by the end you’ve had one story for each of the Doctors that there’s been so far. Since I’m primarily familiar with NuWho and only have only seen/read a handful of Classic Who stories, this was a fun way to get to know them and their companions a bit better. I don’t think there was a single story I disliked! Though the one that amused me the most (even if it wasn’t necessarily the “best” in the collection) was probably “The Nameless City” because the idea of a Doctor Who / Cthuhlu crossover is way too funny. The Doctor throwing the Necronomicon across the Tardis? Outstanding, no notes.

Charlotte’s Web

A classic that I feel the need to reread every few years. It really is the perfect spring novel, and it made a very comforting read this May. Now that I’ve read E B White’s other children’s novels, I can now say without a doubt that Charlotte’s Web is the best of the lot. It feels like a more tightly written, cohesive and compelling story than either Stuart Little or The Trumpet of the Swan. White's writing just draws your right in, his descriptions, the way he'll wind you through these leisurely lists of details, the way every thing feels new and special and comfortable... it's impossible not to feel content while reading.

For those who have never read Charlotte’s Web, it’s a story about a pig called Wilbur, who is saved from being killed as the runt of the litter by Fern. Her parents allow Fern to raise the pig, and eventually Wilbur goes to live in her uncle’s barn. After he learns that he will most certainly be killed for meat in the autumn, his animal friends — particularly the clever and beautiful spider called Charlotte — start hatching a plan to save Wilbur’s life. 

Enemies

I’ve read the other Berrybrook Middle School books written by Svetlana Chmakova and by and large I've enjoyed them, but I have to admit they’re wearing a bit thin for me (Brave was definitely the peak of the series for me). Which isn’t the fault of Chmakova! She draws nice stories that have good themes and morals for that age group, they tackle very relevant social problems kid that age might go through. But as an adult, this one in particular felt profoundly middle school.

In this book, Felicity is struggling with the fact that she never seems to “finish” anything while her sister seems to be good at everything and impresses everyone. Felicity is struggling to learn how to balance the importance of going at your own pace versus sticking with something to meet obligations versus asking for help when you need it. During all this Felicity struggles with friendships that have faded and may even be getting worse — how easy is it to make enemies and how does one fix that?

The Innocence of Father Brown

I’ve been wanting a good cosy murder mystery and I’ve always heard good things about Father Brown so I decided to give the first collection a try. It was pretty darn good! Father Brown is an unassuming little Catholic priest who appears to bumble his way good-naturedly through life. However between his keen ability to observe and appreciate every day life mixed with the fact that a man who hears Confessions gets exposed to the way of the criminal mind, me makes an astounding detective. No one expects anything of him until he absolutely dazzles with his observations and connections. His nemesis-cum-bestie Flambeau is stupendous and I love him.

The religious fervor / aggression / intolerance of any slight deviations is a bit trying though and definitely dates the stories… I would be interested in trying another book to see if that’s toned down. Or maybe even watching one of the modern adaptations since I suspect they would chill out that a little on the blatant xenophobia. Makes me long for good old Father Mulcahy.

The Hardy Boys: The House on the Cliff

I never read The Hardy Boys as a kid but I feel in my heart that I would have loved them. This book was a fun detective story about the Hardy brothers initially attempting to stake out a group of smugglers, only to stumble across a seemingly haunted house and the sudden kidnapping of their father. The peril mounts and they need to rely on their friends to foil the plot. My only complaint is that it lays the whole "wholesome 1950s" schtick on pretty thick. I would really like to try reading the original 1930s version before it was toned down… except it’s damnably hard to find. I think if I had gotten this as a kid it would have scratched a similar itch to Tintin.

Hazel’s Shadow

A thrilling YA survival horror! It combines some neat, unexpected elements to make a really intriguing, fast-paced horror story that is part haunted house and part zombie plague survival.

Hazel has always been able to see ghosts, every since she was a child, and they don’t particularly worry her... they don't except for one creature — a horrible, black shadow — that lurks in her grandmother’s house and seems to haunt her every step, leering and waiting as her grandmother gradually grows sicker and sicker. Hazel would have thought that this would be her biggest concern until what starts as a localized fear suddenly seems to spread, turning the recently deceased into mindless, unfeeling monsters, hellbent on destroying any living person they can get, to kill them and turn them into one of them. Hazel and a small group of fellow classmates are at school when this happens, and find themselves — and a pair of ghosts — needed to band together to survive and possibly to face the horror that’s been haunting Hazel.

American Girls: Kit Saves The Day

I’ve often heard that these American Girl books are actually really good so I grabbed one from the library. And dang, people weren’t kidding, I was really impressed at how much nuance they fit into such a short book written for such a young audience. Kit Saves The Day is about a girl whose family is living through the Great Depression. It shows the life she has to live in order to help make ends meet and how its different from the life she once knew. Her understanding is expanded when she meets a young “hobo” who rides the rails and is invited to help with the family's gardening in exchange for food.

My Dress-Up Darling v2

A ridiculous series that’s just a little addictive. It's about a student, Wakana, who is trying to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps of becoming a doll maker, and is passionate and skilled at creating the costumes and accessories that goes with them. When popular, trendy Marin catches him at it, he’s sure he’s going to be humiliated… until he finds out that she’s passionate about cosplay and really wants to try cosplaying her favourite character but doesn’t have the skill to make the costume. The two end up teaming up to bring that dream to life. It’s charming and pretty and just the right amount of fanservice-y mixed with more technical aspects that keep it interesting.

Torchwood Tales

Short stories have been great for me lately — I’ve been so busy at work that they let me sample a bunch of different adventures without demanding too much time or attention — and this audio collection was a godsend. Like the Doctor Who collection, this one features a variety of exciting stories set in the Torchwood universe. I really enjoyed the first half of the stories, but honestly the second half didn’t quite do it for me. My favourite thing about Torchwood is the team dynamics, and the last four stories were set late enough in the series that they were mostly down to only Gwen or Jack… who I love in tandem with the other characters but am less interested in as solo agents. “Everyone Says Hello”, “Department X” and “Ghost Train” were probably my favourites because it really let a group of character bounce of each other in funny ways as they try to solve whatever absolute weirdness is going down. Rhys getting to the be the "most important man on Earth" for a story was such a pure delight!

Up To No Gouda // Cheddar Late Than Dead

Wow. This series. Was a disappointment. As I said with Father Brown, I was in the mood for some “cosy murder mysteries” and stumbled across this completely by accident. The concept of grilled-cheese-themed murder mysteries paired with the hilarious awful puns made me certain that this was going to be a fun series. It must, I naively told myself, be at least somewhat self-aware and probably have a humour/parody bend to it. I could not have been more wrong. This may have a negative amount of humour. I think every time it tried to be funny is actively sucked mirth and enjoyment out of the air.

This series is about the whitest woman in existence, who is so blandly pleasant that it made the 1950s Hardy Boys edgy in comparison, who goes through life running her grilled cheese restaurant, banally making uninteresting conversation with everyone (who apparently feels compelled to answer her incredibly dumb, probing questions), and brownnosing the cops so hard I might almost call it indecent if it were for the fact that this book even censored the term “that sucks” in reference to something being disappointing.

Nothing happens. Midsomer Murders is the perfect example of how I want this sort of small town murder mystery to go: it should have an at least somewhat interesting detective character, completely fucking mental background characters who make things more difficult than they should be, and an absolute pile of dead bodies by the end. I want the first corpse in the first five minutes and a steady bodycount from then out. It took an hour before the book’s one single death and I had to listen to this woman talk about cheese until then. The deaths weren’t even gruesome.

Why did I read two of these dumb books? Because I started with the third in the series (Cheddar Late Than Dead) and it was juuuuust interesting enough that I thought that maybe the author had run out of steam by this point and that the debut might be better. It was somehow the inverse and the first was EVEN MORE BORING.

I can’t emphasize enough how much she doesn’t do anything. It does not feel like anyone is investigating anything. Most of the story is absolutely unrelated small town nonsense that doesn’t even manage to be properly charming.  Most boring murder imaginable. This is a Hallmark murder mystery. Do not read these. They're not even bad enough to be funny.

Wind Rider: Rescue on Turtle Beach

A charming little introductory book to a new series. Wind Rider is about a pair of kids who find a small, abandoned ship wrecked on the shore… but which suddenly transports them across the world and becomes not only whole and seaworthy, but also capable of sailing itself. The kids go on an adventure to Hawaii where they help save some endangered sea turtles. Reading it as an adult it was fairly dull, but I can see how it would appeal to the intended age group. It had nice art and decent facts about endangered animals. It feels like it’s trying to be a new, nature-conservation-themed Magic Tree House. ...Which might be one of the reasons I wasn't that into it, I felt like I could have gone to read Magic Tree House and had a better time of it.

A trip to the Jagged Highlands and the Oasis of Melodies

A dip in the hot springs really does help relieve tension in your body. The timing couldn’t have been better as I’ve been having some back pain, likely from poor posture because I sit and lie down a lot. I mean, I do a lot of walking from traveling and stuff, but I guess you can say my physical activity level’s very inconsistent.

I’m not interested in bodybuilding or losing weight or anything, but I’m starting to get at an age where I need to really take care of myself. My physical shape isn’t in decline, it’s just that I’m not invincible - not that I ever thought I was. It’s just that now if I’m not careful, I’m more prone to aches and pains that’ll take some time to recover from.

The Jagged Highlands are known for their hot springs, so they’re a popular spot for tourists and travelers who need a break in the middle of a long journey. Raiden and Qingmei have been meaning to stop by for a while, preferably with a large group so we can get a discount on the VIP package. But, as usual, most of their comrades are out on missions, which means only a small handful of them could make it. To fill the quota, Raiden invited the camp and few more friends over.

Aside from just wanting to go to the hot springs, the get together’s also sort of a celebration of Koyo and Yoshikane’s engagement. Both of them are semi-retired demon slayers who still accompany the Dānchún Lǔmǎng from time to time. Raiden mentioned that they were once part of the Kohaku demon slayers. That group disbanded after the Great Calamity when their purpose was fulfilled and by then, only a handful of them survived, including Koyo and Yoshikane.

All I know is that there’s a bunch of factions, demon slayers and demon hunters tend to be lumped together even though there’s a lot of differences. The whole system is said to be complicated so there’s really no use in trying to figure it out - all that matters is that both groups should be able to work together.

Dānchún Lǔmǎng, which translates to innocent reckless, is where Qingmei’s from, and it’s the oldest demon slayer faction that’s still active. Lian, the current head, is a descendant of the founder as well as Qingmei’s adoptive sister. She’s known for taking in strays like Raiden, Dainn, Chihu, and countless others. Most of them end up as a part of Dānchún Lǔmǎng, mostly out of loyalty and gratitude, which probably explains why they have a vast network.

From what I gather, what contributes to Dānchún Lǔmǎng’s longevity is the fact that everyone gets long like family. It makes sense as many of its members were lost and directionless and went through unimaginable trauma that eventually led them to pursue this dangerous lifestyle. So, in a way, most of them are suicidal by nature, which, again, makes sense.

Lian’s well aware of that and while she believes in sacrificing one’s self for the greater good, she doesn’t want her comrades to willingly throw themselves in danger. Unlike most leaders, she prioritizes survival. Death is inevitable and mostly unavoidable. “Why not put your energy into making it out alive instead? You’re worked so hard to make the world a better place, don’t you deserve to live in it as well?“ Those were the words of her ancestor, the founder. And that’s probably why they lasted as long as they have.

Qingmei was adopted by Lian when she was little and her origins were unknown. As a result, she was raised to be a warrior, like many others who were adopted by the group. Lian was also the one who found Raiden and paired her up with Qingmei, a decision that seemed questionable at the time. Going back even further, Dainn’s mother had worked with the Dānchún Lǔmǎng, which was why Lian took an interest in him when she found out they were related.

Lian’s also the kind of person who doesn’t believe in coincidences, so there’s a reason why people end up with the Dānchún Lǔmǎng. In Dainn and Qingmei’s case, them being distant cousins whose common ancestor was part of the first generation of Dānchún Lǔmǎng, it does seem a little unbelievable that they kinda ended up back at their roots considering how muddled history gets.

To explain more simply, Dainn and Qingmei’s origins are unknown, Qingmei more so. Dainn is a survivor of the Karephira Disaster, where, basically, an entire nation was nuked, and he was one of the few survivors. At first glance, as far as he knew, he was just some guy - minus the fact that he was a high ranking knight, or glorified bodyguard, as he would put it. His mother, also an enigmatic historical figure, had a mixed ancestry of Karephira and Qingqiehui. Lian noticed their resemblance and was able to put two and two together.

It was by chance that they discovered that Qingmei was also related. Basically, he’s more Karephira and she’s more Qingqiehui, so they don’t really look related if you’re just going by hair and eye color. In short, they’re distant cousins, him being the uncle if you’re going by generations in a really rough sense.

As far as Lian and the others know, they haven’t come across any other survivors and since centuries have passes, it’s possible that Dainn’s the only one left. Given his connections, it makes sense that he decided to stick around. His journey’s pretty much over and so he deserves to rest, physically and mentally. After all, he was pretty much given a new lease on life now that he no longer has to worry about losing himself to a painful curse while fighting a doomed fate. It’s safe to say that he’s kinda in that weird transition phase where he doesn’t know what to do and has to relearn a lot of things.

But he seems to be doing fine, so that’s good. In terms of his physical health, he’s doing a lot better. Basically, it’s just as he said, a lot of it’s just stuff he’s dealt with his whole life. The fact that he struggled with chronic fatigue and was a renowned sword fighter and captain, it does sound a bit unbelievable, but he somehow managed to work around his physical limitations.

Then he spent the past several hundred years pushing beyond his limits - out of necessity and survival - and that took a toll on him. So he paid the price and it’s just something he has to learn to live with. At least he now has the luxury to rest and take it slow. The chronic fatigue’s a bitch to deal with, he said, but it’s better than being saddled with a curse.

Well, he isn’t completely free of that either as getting rid of that in its entirely would kill him, but it’s been mitigated. Truth is, no one really understands how it works but Raiden somehow managed to find something that’s as close as they can get to freeing him. The way he puts it, it’s still lingering, but compared to the past, it’s basically nothing. And with extensive testing and follow ups, it’s safe to say that it’s weakened to the point that it no longer poses an immediate danger. At worst, it’s not that much different than fatigue.

Right now, he says he’s feeling a lot better, probably the best he felt in a long time. That is a pretty big deal coming from him. The fatigue, as he said, is just something he’ll have to deal with. As long as he doesn’t overexert himself, get adequate rest, and take care of himself, then that’s really all he can do to maintain his health.

Raiden didn’t expect him to tag along for the trip as he doesn’t normally get involved in social activities. It just so happens that the hot springs isn’t too far from this place called the Oasis of Melodies, also known as the home of the Feishen spirits, which are little floating creatures who guard the oasis.

The first Feishen, known as the Elder, or Lady Shenteng, was the one who rescued Dainn after the disaster and they worked together to quell the calamity from spreading further. Sometime later, they parted way when Raiden’s brother found out about Dainn’s whereabouts. Lady Shenteng later met Raiden and Qingmei, where they learned about what happened after that disaster.

And sometime after that, Dainn finally returned to the oasis and since then, he’s promised the Elder to check in often after unintentionally ghosting her for the past 500 years or so. She gets why things turned out the way it did, but she still brings that up, probably just to make sure he keeps his word and stay out of trouble. Even though I only met her for a few minutes she does seem like the no nonsense, you’d better keep your word or I’ll give you a good whack to knock some goddamn sense into you type.

In a way, I think Lady Shenteng’s similar to Lian in terms of  preserving your integrity and not giving into despair. Like, yes the world can be cruel and unjust, but unless you want to keep feeding that vicious cycle, at least your little decisions can help slowly shift the tables. It’s like the starfish story where your actions may seem minuscule, but it made a huge difference to that one starfish you rescued.

Since Dainn’s going up there, Raiden and Qingmei wanted to check the place out too, as do some of the others. The Oasis isn’t technically a restricted place, but Dainn felt it was best to give the Feishen a heads up to prevent any potential problems. Not that any of us will cause problems as it’s kinda protocol for the Dānchún Lǔmǎng to do research and get familiar with where they’re traveling to so they can avoid problems like being unintentionally offensive or disrespectful, causing some sort of hysteria, or just simply getting involved where they’re not supposed to.

After all, if you come barging in, guns flying, and just slashing monsters left and right with little to no explanation, and disregard the people around you, you won’t exactly be seen as a hero. I guess that’s another reason why their reputation’s held up over the years, it just has to do with respect. I have heard of other factions whose reputations aren’t so good because of lack of communication where they just do their thing and leave and leave everyone else to clean up their messes.

So, I got to meet some of the Feishen briefly when Dainn introduced us. Then we kinda went off our own and I just explored the place. There’s a giant tree in the center that’s hard to miss, so getting lost isn’t too big or a problem as long as you can see it.

There’s a lot of unusual glowing flowers called mourning spiders, which are often associated with death. They look kinda like spider lilies but more fantasy like, and somehow more unsettling. Like, they’re interesting to look at, but when you look at them, you feel kinda weird.

I guess you can say this place gives off sorta weird vibes. It’s not necessarily bad, more like haunting. After all, a big disaster took place not too far from here. One of the dizaster zones - there were several - is said to be down south and has been sealed off by Dainn and the Feishen. There’s no danger of the seal reopening but you can never be too sure, so that area’s off limits to only the Feishen, and probably Dainn. Well, they said that there’s really nothing to see there anyway since it’s all barren anyway.

The Poppy Demon River’s another well known landmark that passes through the Oasis. Travelers have used the river as a guide - the Oasis is down south, the mountains are up north. Since there was heavy rain a couple days ago, the water level’s higher than usual, so I wasn’t able to get close.

The Feishen stationed at one of the posts said they never saw the river like that before as it normally doesn’t rain like that, so they’ve been telling passerbys to be aware. As you go up or down the river there’s a couple posts guarded by Feishen who will help you if you need directions or run into trouble.

So we spent a day up there while Dainn stayed behind. When he was figuring things out, the option of him staying in the Oasis was a possibility, but he and Lady Shenteng felt that it wouldn’t do much good for him. He’s welcome to stay if he wanted, but for him, there’s too many painful memories. Also, it is kinda in the middle of nowhere, so it’s not the best option for someone who’s been alone for most of their lives.

Qingmei has kinda latched on to him as an older brother figure, which was probably part of the reason why he decided to stay with the Dānchún Lǔmǎng. In terms of their mannerisms, it’s like, yeah they’re definitely related. Even long before they found out, Raiden said there seemed to be some connection between them as Dainn was somehow able to reach Qingmei where she couldn’t. As someone who lost her only family, she’s protective of those two and their relationship.

One thing no one expected out of Qingmei and Dainn though is them being a singer-songwriter team. Well, they’ve only written a couple songs together, but it could lead to something more.

A while ago, they released a song titled Star Blessed Slumber, which has lyrics in english and Karephira language, and was produced by Atsushi. Karephira’s basically a dead language with Dainn likely being the last native speaker. Qingmei kinda understands the language a little bit, something that kinda stuck while most of her past has been blocked out. Raiden is kinda fluent as she lived there for a time, but she can’t read or write in it.

The song, Star Blessed Slumber, was adapted from a Karephira lullaby that Dainn and Qingmei grew up listening to. Dainn said that it’s mostly Qingmei as all he did was provide Karephira lyrics and translations, but she credited him, as she should. They kinda dropped it on us out of nowhere, but it was a nice surprise. And that ended up taking off unexpectedly, probably because people were surprised to hear Karephira language and got curious about it. I know I was.

Following that, two more songs dropped, Better Than New, and Travel Guide. For now, there’s no further plans at the moment, but Qingmei hopes to write more songs. The whole thing came together unexpectedly, partly because Qingmei wanted to learn more about the Karephira language after some adventurers uncovered some ruins. Inside the ruins were a bunch of papers, Karephira literature, they later discovered.

They didn’t expect to find a translator, especially someone who’s a native speaker. Up until then, Dainn hasn’t spoken the language, much less read anything, so while it came naturally to him, he did have to think about it a bit. And that was kinda how their musical venture took off. So, it’s kinda their way of preserving an ancient language, which I think is cool.

I don’t think I’ve met many of the Dānchún Lǔmǎng at once, especially since they’re on vacation, which is rare for most of them. Lian’s an interesting figure. And to think what would’ve happened if she wasn’t so giving. Raiden said she was the catalyst to everything, the reason why her journey started and ended like it had. I’d say she definitely played a role in Raiden and Dainn’s survival, directly and indirectly. Not to mention the countless lives she took in and helped along the way - I don’t believe they are exaggerating when they call her a savior.

Before I moved to where i live now I met this girl. We met in the beginning of the school year and I left right after the exams. I didn’t even get to say goodbye. For about two years later (2018-2019) we used to talk everyday. If not daily than at least weekly. She was my best friend at the time but I wasn’t hers.

While we didn’t know each other for long I really liked her and her energy. I don’t even know why and maybe I seem obsessive and creepy for still thinking about her. She was my best friend at the time. She is the first person who ever came out to me. She is the first lgbt+ person I’ve ever known. The more I think about it the more I realize maybe I innocently liked her as more than just a friend.

Just before we stopped talking I went back home. We planned to meet up and hangout and she asked me if I would take the train with her to se her girlfriend at another city. It wasn’t too far but we were both young girls and I didn’t feel comfortable doing that so I said no. For whatever reason we ended up not meeting up when I went home. Two days after our latest conversation she asked me a question which I didn’t see until a few months ago (2-3 years later) but even ignoring the question I still texted her “hey” to which she saw and didn’t reply. She deleted her old Instagram account (i think) and I couldn’t find her in our mutual friends until like 30 minutes ago.

For months I’ve been wanting to text her. I don’t even know what I would say or what I want to say. We didn’t fight and things didn’t end badly or anything like that. She has changed her profile picture multiple times in the past few months and also has a new Instagram account.

The question is… should I request to follow her? Should I text her? What should I say? WHY do I want to text her? What if she blocks me or leaves me on read? What do I do?

Okay, that's a LOT of questions and I don't have answers for all of them 😂

But I can give you clarity on a couple of things.

I think the reason why you want to go back to her is that you do have some fond memories of her. You mentioned that she was your first queer friend and that's the kind of connection that makes you feel safe and comforted. These kinds of people, especially at a young age, make you feel seen.

So, we go back to these people, when we seek that comfort and safety.

Sometimes we don't want that person back. We just want that feeling back.

We want to remember and relive how we used to feel when we were with them.

Perhaps that's what you want too. Maybe you miss having a close queer friend. Maybe you miss having a best friend. Maybe you just miss her.

You should think a little bit about it.

If that's the case, then remember that you can find comfort and safety and whatever feeling she helped you feel in other people.

You can always make new friends (queer or not) who will treat you better (I'm not kind of fond of the way she treated you, if I may say that).

But if you feel like this is unfinished business and you want to see it through, then, by all means, go ahead and reach out to her.

If she doesn't respond or block you, then you know it's done.

Then you move on.

There are some things we should overthink and some things we shouldn't.

This, I feel, is one of the latter.

There were certain types of relationships that had the tagline of 'forbidden' in front of them. Some were more serious than others. The relationship you were chasing was one of them.

You wanted a chance with your best friend's older sister. She was a few years older than you and had a serious boyfriend, but that didn't stop you from flirting.

Needless to say, Pietro wasn't a fan of your flirting, so you made an effort to not do it around him. It sounded harder than it was. There were a countless number of times when you found yourself alone with Wanda in their house.

Whether it was a moment in the hall or a couple of minutes in the kitchen, you always found a way to get her alone.

She of course refused your advances, but you were certain that it was only because of her boyfriend. You knew that you had piqued Wanda's interest. She stole glances at you when she thought you weren't watching.

She always blushed when you flirted, but it was always followed by a stern look, telling you to stop. You knew that there was a part of her that wanted you just as much as you wanted her.

You stood outside their house waiting for Wanda to let you in. Pietro had told you he would be home soon, so you decided to come over a little early.

" Are you going to let me in?"

" I know, but he said he would be here in like 20 minutes, so I just thought I'd come now and wait for him."

You physically see her breath hitch. You throw on the shirt and walk up the stairs like you were told, leaving Wanda in her aroused state.

Pietro was taking longer than you expected to show up. When you finally heard the front door open, you assumed it was him, but it wasn't. From the stairs above, you could clearly see that it was Wanda's boyfriend.

They did not look like they were having a pleasant conversation. You couldn't hear it word for word, but there were a lot of apologetic words coming from his end. It didn't seem to be having the desired effect on Wanda. She was completely over whatever it was. That made him upset, and he began to raise his voice. So she matched his energy, and though you couldn't hear it moments ago, the conversation was crystal clear now.

" You've literally been cheating on my for the past month and a half, and I'm supposed to be okay with it"

" Can't we just move on from this already, Wanda. I love you and only you"

You hear her scoff," Then why are you talking to and fucking other girls, Vis?"

He smacks his lips together," You never want to have sex, what am I supposed to do? And when you do want it, you never shave"

" That's because you're bad at sex, and don't you dare comment on my body."

" You're being a real bitch right now," when he says this, you decide to go down the stairs.

"Are you good down here, Wanda?"

Vis answers for her," We're fine."

You ignore him and wait for any indication from Wanda that she's alright or not.

Vis gets in your face a bit," I said we're fine."

" I wasn't asking you"

You glare up at the man, not intimidated at all by the height difference.

" Y/n, it's fine. He was just leaving" Wanda responds, but you don't take your eyes away from the man.

" Well, you heard her. It's time for you to leave"

He pauses," I'm sorry, but what gives you the right to kick me out of my girlfriend's house? Who even are you? Haven't you heard of not interrupting when the adults are talking?"

" Ex-girlfriend," Wanda pipes up. This caused the man to make a grab for her, but you blocked him.

" Wanda, you can't be serious"

" She sounds pretty serious to me," you cut him off and begin to usher him out of the door.

He pushes you off of him and storms towards Wanda. He grabs her wrist slightly aggressively, and you jump into action. You pull him back by one arm, and force it high up behind his back.

" You don't ever put your hands on a woman like that. She broke up with you, and by the looks of it you should be lucky she even gave you a chance in the first place."

You push him out the front door and slam it in his face. He starts banging against the door, but you ignore it. Instead, you check on Wanda, gently lifting her wrist so it could get a better look at it.

" It's fine Y/n"

" It's not, you're bruising"

" I'll live"

There's a long pause after that. You speak first," I'm sorry about you and your boyfriend"

" Are you really, or are you just saying that because he fucked up, and you're right here all ready to take his place?"

You shake your head," No, I'm really sorry. I know how it feels to get cheated on by someone you care about. I wouldn't wish it on anyone"

" I never knew you were seeing anyone"

" I was, but I haven't been on a date in a couple of months," you replied.

" Why not?"

You shrug," Don't need to go on any more dates because I know what I want and none of these girls will meet my expectations"

" What is it that you want?"

You look her straight in the eyes," I want to be with you."

She rolls her eyes," Y/n, I was being serious"

" Wanda, I don't think you understand how much I'm attracted to you. Not just your body but everything about you. When you give me a chance, I'm not going to fuck up"

Your phone going off interrupts the conversation. It's a message from Pietro saying he's got a couple of things to do before he'll be home, so he probably won't be near until after dark.

" Y/n, you're my little brother's best friend"

You gently take her hand in yours," Is that the only thing stopping you?"

Wanda looks away from you and speaks to herself," I just broke up with Vis"

She drops your hand and takes a step back from you," I can't do this right now"

She storms up the stairs, and you let her go. You text Pietro, telling him you can't wait up for him, and leave the house.

There's a feeling in the pit of your stomach screaming at you for leaving Wanda alone, but you remind yourself that she doesn't want your comfort. She needs space and time to herself. You could picture her crying alone in her room, and it tugged on your heart strings.

You were already in the car, driving in the opposite direction of the house. Going back wasn't a good idea, and you knew that. So why did you turn the car around and drive back to the house?

When you parked the car, you noticed the front door was open. There were alarms going off in your head. Without any hesitation, you got out of the car and ran inside the house.

You heard a commotion upstairs, and you followed the sound. Wanda's door was wide open. Her ex stood in the middle of her room as she was curled up in the corner. Her dresser contents were sprawled across the floor, and the mirror to her vanity had been shattered.

The man had his back facing you, and you took advantage of that. You tackled him down on Wanda's carpeted floor. He yelped in surprise, and you took the opportunity to flip him, so he was laying on his back. You straddled his chest and began to throw stiff punches to his face.

You thought you had the upper hand until he ended up on top of you. He began to throw punches at your face, which you did your best to block. He connected a few times, and you could taste the blood pooling inside of your mouth. His hands wrapped around your throat, and you began to panic.

You clawed at his hands to no avail before propping your knee up in a sharp movement. The man rolled off of you, hands immediately reaching for his privates.

" Get out or I'll call the police"

Wanda's voice was shaky as she yelled at her ex.

He chuckled then hissed in pain," You're bluffing"

The numbers were already dialed on her phone, and she had full intent to press the call button. Vis tried to lunge at her, but you grabbed on to his foot stopping him from reaching her.

You dragged him out of the room and into the hall before he escaped your hold. The two of them faced each other and for a moment everything was still.

He charged at you, and you let him. You held your ground until the last moment, when you threw yourself to the floor. It was too late for the man to catch himself as he tumbled down the stairs.

Your breathing was erratic as you got a glimpse of him laying at the bottom of the stairs. It felt like your heart was going to explode. The thought of him being dead filled your body with fear.

Wanda had rushed out of the room when she heard the fighting stop. She hadn't called the police, but with a glance to the bottom of the steps she thought she would actually have too.

It was silent. No one made a sound. The both of you stared at the man's body for a long moment until you finally heard a groan escape his lips.

There was relief that flooded through your body as the man began to stir.

" Vis just leave. Please, if you can't see that this is toxic, then you're not the same person as when we started dating. We can't do this anymore"

It took a lot of effort for him to get to his feet. It also took a lot of effort for you to get to yours. You stood at the top of the stairs, blocking his path. He stood at the bottom of the stairs, looking at Wanda.

The rage had left his eyes, and it seemed as though reality kicked in. He took a singular glance at you and bowed his head," I'm- I'm sorry"

He then turned around slowly and walked out of the front door. He shut it behind him and when he did you fell to one knee.

Wanda was by your side in an instant. She had tears streaming down her face as she checked you for injuries.

" Did he hurt you?"

" Shut up, you're bleeding," She helps you stand up and carries your weight as she guides you to her bed.

Wanda grabs a plethora of wound cleaning supplies; cotton balls, alcohol, peroxide, and neosporin.

She begins delicately dabbing the cotton balls around your face, removing the blood residue.

" Wanda"

She ignores you.

" Wanda"

She ignores you again.

" Wan- ouch"

You hiss as a cotton ball drenched in alcohol touches your face. There's a small victory smile on her face as you stop talking until she's done.

When she finishes cleaning up your face, her eyes dart to your neck. There were bruises from when he choked you. Her hands were delicate as they traced the bruises.

" I'm so sorry, Y/n."

You were not having any of that," Hey, this wasn't your fault. You didn't cause this."

" Why'd you come back?"

You shrug," I had a gut feeling"

Her head buried itself in your shoulder and her arms wrapped around you," Thank you"

Your hands rubbed her back soothingly," I wasn't going to let him hurt you."

You pulled back from the hug just enough to see her face," He didn't hurt you, right?"

Wanda rolls her eyes," No, Y/n he didn't hurt me, but he tried to kill you. You were bleeding and bruised, you could've been seriously injured. Why would you be so concerned about me?"

" Because I left you alone in this house. After I saw how he acted earlier, I shouldn't have left you alone," you avoided her eyes.

" How could you have known he'd be back?"

You were silent.

" You couldn't have Y/n, this isn't your fault. It isn't mine. It's his fault, all of this is his fault."

Wanda's eyes have tears in them when they meet yours. You wipe her tears away with your thumb. She closes her eyes and leans into your touch.

" I'm going to stay until your brother gets back"

" You don't have to." It's a whisper from her lips.

" I know, but if it's alright with you, I'm still going to stay."

You get up from your spot on her bed and begin surveying her room.

" Where are you going?"

" Nowhere, I'm about to start cleaning your room"

" Leave it," she waits until you're facing her to continue," Hold me"

You walk over to the bed and lay down next to Wanda. Her back is to your front as you wrap an arm around her, pulling her further into you.

" Is this okay?"

She turns in your arms, so that you're face to face," I like this better"

You give a small nod," Okay"

Even after such an eventful day, being this close to Wanda still made your heart race faster than you thought possible. You're in her bed, holding her, because she asked you to be. It's not something you ever thought would happen.

" Y/n."

You hummed in response.

" I don't care that you're my little brother's best friend"

You furrowed your brow," What do you me-"

Wanda's lips met yours. Her lips were delicate against yours. The light pressure was almost teasing you. You let Wanda lead, not wanting to screw this up at all. She broke the kiss but didn't move away from you. Her breath was coating your lips as your mind tried to process what just happened.

" It means I'm going to give you a chance," she pecked your lips one more time.

You smiled at her with determination in your eyes," I'm not going to fuck it up"

Shinichiro x daughter reader

Chapter 2

2003

It's been a year since Shinichiro had learned about his daughter and taken her in, it took a while to adjust to his new life but he had no complaints. The little girl had seemed to brighten up everyone's lives in the house. Emma seemed to love being an aunt and no longer the youngest in the house, Mikey loved to hang with the little girl too. Grandpa also seemed to love the new energy in the house often spoiling the girl, even when Shinichiro had whined about how they all spoiled her too much. 

Even his friends had seemed to love their new roles as uncles, helping Shinichiro out when he was too busy at the shop. They'd take the girl of his hands for a few hours before returning her home to a pouting Mikey,  who claimed that they were stealing her away from him. 

Shinichiro had set up an area in his shop where she would stay out of harm's way, but it seemed that she had gotten him more customers as well.  Kids would come in and praise him for being such a cool dad and how they wished theirs were cool too. Delinquents would come in and coo at the girl talking to Shinichiro about what they needed.  

Mikey adored being an uncle, he had someone he could teach to be cool and not that she would ever need to be protected but he was more than willing to teach her to fight once she got older. He had dragged his group of friends over, often bragging to them how he was such a cool uncle. Draken would then proceed to hand the baby to Takashi before lecturing the blond for how he was holding the baby. 

Emma loved having another girl in the house, begging Shinichiro to let her dress the baby. It's not that Shinichiro couldn't dress his daughter probably, he just dressed her in the most ridiculous way. Nothing matched and it looked like the baby picked out her own outfits. Emma was mainly in charge of doing (Y/n)'s hair while Mikey kept the girl distracted. 

"Wa!" 

Much to Shinichiro's liking, his daughter seemed to have taken a liking to Wakasa. Always rushing towards him whenever he saw her. He missed the days where she just wanted to be held because ever since she learned to walk, she would run to people leaving him behind. 

Wakasa chuckled as he knelt down to make sure the girl wouldn't fall before made it to him, she clung onto him as he stood up. Maybe she was just used to taking her afternoon naps with him. 

Or it was the fact that he spoiled the girl with sweets and pastries. Before dumping her back on Shinichiro who then had to deal with her needing to come down from her sugar high. 

Baby's were ugly and Mikey never understood why everyone loved them but (Y/n) was definitely his favourite in the world,  maybe it was the fact that she kept calling out to him and looked at him with those doe eyes. He loved stealing her away just so he had someone who would nap with him or when she shared food with him. 

With the help of Takashi he quickly learned how to hold her properly. Since the silver head boy kept lecturing him on how to hold for the girl and take care of her. Mana and (Y/n) hang out a lot, whenever Takashi would bring his sisters along. 

Mikey would rather die than admit that he got jealous when (Y/n) paid attention to his friends more than him, he would grab her and just ran away from the boys who had to end up running after him worried that the girl would get hurt.  

"I'm (Y/n) chili's favourite?" 

"Mi!!" 

He smiled down at the girl lightly bumping heads with her as she giggled, was this how big bro Shinichiro felt when he was younger? "Let's go eat some Dorayaki?" 

"Yea!" 

 

"Mikey!" 

The blond turned towards his friends with a grin, keeping a hold on the girl. Just smiling as they lectured him about running off like that, how he could have hurt the girl if he wasn't careful. 

"As if I'd let that happen" 

He whispered pouting at them, until the girl cupped his cheeks with a grin "Yaki!" 

"Draken ! Me and (Y/n) chii are hungry!" 

"YOU CAN'T USE (Y/N) TO KEEP GETTING FOOD" 

The girl was pulled away from her uncle as the tall blond started lecturing him. Keisuke snickered looking down at the girl, who seemed to have taken an interest in his hair. 

"(Y/n) ..no" 

He grabbed the girl's chubby arm before she could grab his hair, moving to poke her sides as a distraction which seemed to capture Mikey's attention. The blond boy huffed watching his niece let out shrieks and giggles. 

"Tora!" 

The girl shrieked out moving to run towards the tattooed boy, hiding behind his leg to protect herself from Keisuke. The boy could only snicker at her innocent attempt to hide. He moved, letting her use him as a shield from the canine boy. 

"Puppy!" 

The girl immediately ran towards Pah who had brought his dog, she looked up at him waiting for approval. He nodded letting the girl pet his dog, she sat down on the ground happily petting the dog who licked the girl's cheek in return.

 

The older man adored the energy the girl brought into the house, she had kept everyone on their toes ever since she learned to walk. It was entertaining to see how everyone tried to keep her from any harm. The girl seemed to be very curious lately and kept running off looking for new spots to explore. 

"Ojī!" 

She immediately latched herself onto the older man and smiled up at him, Mikey smiled before letting his grandfather know that he was just dropping the girl off and that he was going out with his friends again. 

"Let's get you some dinner?" 

She nodded, holding grandpa's hand as they headed to the kitchen. Helping the girl onto her stool before the older man started dinner.  As the girl told him about her afternoon with Mikey and Pah's dog. 

Emma soon joined them, offering to take the girl of the older man's hands while he was busy with the dinner.  "Why don't you go give (Y/n) her bath? Shinichiro's working late tonight " 

Shinichiro stepped into the house expecting to find his daughter asleep, but he walked into her sitting next a sleeping Mikey. She cooed crawling towards her father with a bright smile.

"Hey baby, shouldn't you be sleeping?" 

The baby giggled holding her hands up towards, the father couldn't help but laugh as he picked her up. Kissing her forehead as he walked towards his bedroom. 

"You should be sleeping sweetheart, you have a big day tomorrow " 

He wasn't ready to send her to a day care just yet, he would definitely miss his girl. He was so used to having her around him most of the day. He smiled down at her as she cuddled into his chest, slowing dozing off on his chest 

"Don't grow up too fast okay?" 

He continued playing with her hair, until he was certain that she was fully asleep. Before moving her off his chest, tucking her into her bed. He kissed her head one last time and left to go take a shower. 

Shinichiro wasn't sure if he was ready to let her go yet, but she needed to be around kids her age and it would only  e good for her. She would make friends and he wanted nothing more for her to be healthy and happy.  

The group couldn't help but snicker while watching Shinichiro talk to (Y/n), the girl seemed to be too distracted by all the kids around her.  She kept letting out whines as she tried to pull away from her father

"Wanna play!" 

Shinichiro pouted at his daughter, holding her still in front of him as he tried his best to hold his tears back. He was upset that she seemed more eager to run off and go play instead of saying goodbye to him. 

"Otõ" 

Shinichiro felt chubby hands on his cheeks, blinking as he looked down at the girl. Who tried her best to cheer her father up, she gave him a smile 

"No sad !"
