Lessons from the Pandemic
The pandemic is teaching us many lessons, the biggest lesson being, it's important we work together and support each other.
Personally, I have learned many things. Initially when we heard about the pandemic and there was talk about us catching the virus, government scientists talked about a pre-condition and those people being more susceptible to catching the virus.
Months in and it was becoming clear, that we're all vulnerable, and we can all catch Covid, but those with a pre-condition would be worse off if they caught the virus and worst case scenario, they might die. Having a pre-condition myself, I am hoping I never have to put that to the test.
The Covid vaccine does protect, but it's not protecting enough, and the protection it has reduces over time and you can still catch and spread Covid. It is the reason the booster was first introduced. Due to the issues with the first vaccine, there is now a second vaccine, but the UK isn’t stocking it currently. Eligibility for the new vaccine is for the 18/50′s so not everyone is eligible. According to the media, the government placed an order, but cancelled it.
If the new vaccine doesn’t come into circulation in the UK, people shall have to rely on the current vaccines, which aren't protecting enough. For those people who are immunocompromised, taking the vaccine means they may only have around 40% protection, which again, will significantly reduce.
There are many people like me, who fall into the being vulnerable and high-risk category and yet nothing has been said about how the vaccine fits for us. Initially, the government were prioritising the vulnerable and high-risk to take the vaccine, vaccinated first for a vaccine they don't know really know if it fits well enough.
Now with lifting precautionary measures, I am personally struggling with being given little choice as to how I live my life, with a government that simply doesn't care. My old life doesn't exist. With lifting restrictions everyone is now at risk, whether you have been vaccinated or not.
If I do want to get back into my life, I would have to ignore the fact there is a virus out there and potentially risk catching the virus. As a result I am now four-walled. When I do manage to go out, I have to wear full PPE in public enclosed spaces.
I couldn't guarantee my survival and if I did, I would potentially have to be hospitalised. When I am able to go out, I mask and visor up. I cannot go to pubs, coffee shops, restaurants or the theatre.
Fancy joining the conversation? Let us know if you are high risk or vulnerable, how you are ‘surviving’ in the pandemic? Have you struggled, are you still struggling, have you caught Covid, have you come through Covid okay, or have you been seriously affected?
We would love to hear from you, please let us hear your stories.

My Third Book
Perhaps you've already noticed that over the last few weeks I’ve been putting out more feature quotes. I'm lucky to have been working on my third book Survival: The Covid Years. The book is due to be published on the 17th November. Things will start getting back to normal shortly, promise!
Here's a little taster to the book:
"Ilana Estelle was 46 when she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and then ten years later, she was diagnosed with autism. The journey from angry, confused child to the ‘real’ her took enormous inner strength and courage. Then the global pandemic struck.
In Survival: The Covid Years. Ilana shares her overwhelming physical and mental struggles within the chaos of the pandemic. She explains how navigating the daily turbulence and ever-changing rules and restrictions impacted her physical, mental, and emotional needs, leaving her feeling out of control and panicked..."
If you're interested in grabbing copies of my first two books, Cerebral Palsy: 'A Story' or Spirituality, Healing and Me,' you can order Kindle or paperback copies on Amazon, and through the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

‘Work on Yourself’
I know what mental health looks like because I still continue to deal with it. We’re still in the pandemic, it’s not finished, and mental health is in its boots. It’s not talked about or dealt with in any great way, and now the virus is being ignored.
In a world that rules by ‘divide and conquer,’ a world that is forever changed, it has become even more important to deal with your mental health, to become even more aware mentally and emotionally, to work on yourself.
So, it has become even more important to work on yourself. Emotions don’t go away just because you ignore them. You will always end up playing catch up and can get ill. It is important to change your perceptions on what you deal with. That usually brings about the biggest change.
Get to know you, so you understand know what makes you YOU. Deal with your emotions, deal with your issues (and we all have them) so you can be a better version of you, so that you can stay present, so that you’re in control of your thoughts, of your emotions, so that you can be in control of YOU.
Learn to spiritually and emotionally grow, so that you can be better than you were yesterday. Work on yourself, for better mental health. If you haven’t started, today would be a good time. It is important to work on your mental health, it is important to work on yourself, on YOU.
My books deal with mental health. You can grab paperback and Kindle copies on Amazon, or through the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

Reader Review - Cerebral Palsy ‘A Story’
Reader Review
“Honestly, it’s breath-taking to be able to read a memoir/self-help/mind/body/spirit book that isn’t a ‘kiss ‘n’ tell.’ It would have been so easy for the author to come in and spill the beans on when all is considered, a difficult life, but instead she has chosen to remain upbeat and only to see her life as positive. The book is a celebration of her life; as she uses her experiences to help others, which she does well, she takes the reader by the hand allowing them to consider their own journey too. An epic and inspirational read. A must have book.”
Book Blurb
Living with cerebral palsy is enormously difficult. But what if you never knew you had it? This is the incredible story of Ilana Estelle.
Born the second of premature twins, from a young age Ilana knew she was different, but for all the wrong reasons. A child of the 60s, Ilana experienced first-hand the way that disability was so often brushed under the carpet and not spoken about. Her constant physical and mental struggles made her feel isolated, alone, frustrated, and misunderstood… it took 46 years for her to find out why.
Part memoir, part motivational guide, Cerebral Palsy: A Story is Ilana’s open and honest journey from an angry, confused child, knowing something was wrong, but not knowing what, to the ‘real’ her – a courageous woman using her experiences and lessons to create inspiring messages about mental and physical health, positivity, resilience and change.

Being a force for good
We should all want to be a force for good. What matters is the goodness you put out there and how you deal with things. We all have that. When we hand out kindness, we shall recoup some of that kindness back.
If we carry animosity for others, we may never meet with success. Sabotaging other people’s success, means you could be sabotaging your own.
Everything we say, everything we do is a mirror image of what we say and do to ourselves. The pandemic is teaching us many things. We can all make a difference in the world.
In our private lives that is what most of us are doing, but I’ve also heard it said many times since the pandemic started, the overall tone has changed, people seem more mean-spirited, citing what’s in it for ‘me,’ instead of how can I can help others, how can I do better?
Where we may have struggle, we can still do better, but for that to happen, we need to stop projecting our will on to others. For those who haven’t found success, they may not care for others to have and meet with success and can feel jealousy and despondency towards those people.
No matter our circumstances, we should all want to become better people, we should want the best for others, to be a force for good. It’s the lessons we should all be taking away from the pandemic.

12-today
We each have a journey to take, but not all of us will take it. Growing up without knowing about a disability I would later go on to discover, it was important I was able to find peace in myself, to live life in my own skin, to understand me and that it what I have achieved. It is important we make our personal connections.
Difficult to forget the trauma and my experiences, those are here to stay, my accomplishments can’t bury those. But despite those, I am enormously proud of what I have achieved, achievements I never thought I would see in my lifetime, it’s not how that was initially planned, or meant to go.
Over the years, I have had to steer my own course, and its outcomes and you can too. Where some things are fated and cannot be changed, there are things we can change for ourselves. As we get to live our lives, the universe provides lessons for us all, but it is important to seek those lessons out.
The CP Diary provides the platform, and my books provide the tools, those aren’t just for me. My books aren’t just my beginnings, they’re yours too. Order your copy of Cerebral Palsy: ‘A Story’ and ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ and start your journey today.
I would be grateful for the support. All book proceeds go to charity, so if you fancy grabbing your copy so charities may benefit, please go to the following link to purchase – https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

My ‘blog’ is 12 years old
Into my 13th year of writing, my website, The CP Diary will be 12 years old on the 17th May, 2022. I’ve seen a lot of changes in that time. I have also covered a lot of ground, writing about what affects me, what is out there; what affects us all.
But even spanning 12 years, I am still finding it hard to comprehend, equate and understand this has been my life. I don’t think I will ever come to terms with my trauma. It depends on the trauma, but I don’t think you ever get over trauma, I just think you find a place for it. My writing is that place.
Anyone having to struggle through a disability without the emotional or mental support may struggle. When trauma hits a raw nerve and it continues, it’s hard not to take it personally. It is important to understand ‘trauma,’ to find a place for trauma, to talk about how you really feel.
The biggest thing for anyone dealing with trauma is the concept that trauma happens under our watch, and we’re helpless to act, that we still have to work through trauma, and we still have to find a place for it.
My books can help with trauma. Charities would be grateful for your support. If you fancy grabbing your copy so that charities may benefit, please go to the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

Spirituality and the Meaning of Life
There are many definitions of ‘spirituality.’ Spirituality conjures up different meanings and interpretation, but spirituality shouldn’t have more than one meaning.
The Oxford Dictionary gives the nearest definition of spirituality: “relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.” – (Source: https://www.oed.com)
It is a quality that involves deep feeling, it relates to people’s thoughts and beliefs, rather than to their physical surroundings or their bodies. However, you see spirituality, spirituality allows you to explore your life’s purpose.
Spirituality is a deep inter-connectedness with something that is bigger than us. It gives us a sense of purpose, a connection with humility, a connection to nature and all living things. In Covid-19, it has never been more important.
It is a belief system, a lifestyle choice. If spirituality is continually practiced, it allows you to think about and put others first. Spirituality defines the meaning in life. The more spiritual you are the more you’ll want to search for the meaning in life, it is ‘the experience or state of being alive.’
Spirituality is synonymous with enlightenment. The more spiritual you are, the more enlightened you become, the more you will want to work on self-improvement, and live a more positive lifestyle.
Conclusion
Spirituality is powerful, when used in the context of lifestyle. When you stop thinking you’re important and you think about and come to understand that you are part of a bigger picture and act accordingly, then your life can positively change.
Enlightenment, is ‘the awakening to ultimate truth’ that is synonymous with spirituality, is the difference between a more peaceful and tranquil existence and a self-centred existence, lived in ignorance.
Spirituality has changed my life. If you would like to learn more about how ‘spirituality’ can be incorporated successfully into your lives, and would like to buy a copy of my book, please check out the following link – https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle
All proceeds from both books are donated to mental health charities. You can make a difference by buying my books.

Navigating my Blog
When it comes to mental health you need to give yourself time. It’s easy to start with good intentions and then give up at the first hurdle. I have always had good intentions, but mental health with a disability is difficult to process.
Since the start of my blog 12 years ago, I have made the transition to tackle mental health easier. Through my intuition and insight, there is lots of information on my blog that can help you change the way you think about your life, about mental health, and about your experiences. It takes time, patience and perseverance.
Through writing, I have come to understand everything about ‘me’ and about my life, about life in general, and about others. Over the 12 years I have been writing, I have seen just how more self-assured I am.
My spiritual beliefs carry me, what I put out on my blog is what I use in my everyday life. There is no difference between what I write on my blog and in my real life. My words on my blog are ‘my real life.’
Through my words, I am able to understand and adjust my life to fit what I need. Through autism and in the pandemic it has been difficult. But my blog isn’t just for me, it’s for anyone who is prepared to put the work in, to work through their own lives.
You can also pick up a copy of my books Cerebral Palsy: ‘A Story’ and Spirituality, Healing and Me. Both books are contained and cover mental health, and ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ can steer you to a path of enlightenment.

Making Mental Health a Priority
Writing on my blog for 12 years, I have seen many mental health changes, but I have never seen a change as I have in Covid-19. Emotions impact our thoughts, our mood, our ability to relate to others, our behaviour, and any decisions we go on  to make.
Where mental health before the pandemic might have been bubbling below the surface, in the pandemic it became evident it was no longer bubbling beneath the surface. There is no getting away from the fact we have all been affected by our mental health.
Mental health is assumed, but it’s not a given. But it’s not just how we coped in the pandemic, life is stressful, it is also the external influences in government and the decisions that have been made, that have brought us to this place.
We’re not dealing with mental health. As I continue to keep up with my own mental health, in the last two years, I hope I am able to continue to see the good in humanity. From what we’re seeing, humanity isn’t out of the woods.
I came across an article written by Paul Hollywood who echoes my sentiments on mental health, and who shines a light on his own mental health. In lockdown, “Lego,” he says. “I made a lot of Lego models in lockdown – that was my therapy.” (Source: https://www.thetimes.co.uk) Yes, everyone is affected.
For many, they may look as if they have everything under control, but there is a continual mental struggle. We generally don’t talk about mental health. Dealing with autism and anxiety, my realities are different, and as I continue to advocate my own mental health, helping to keep illness at bay, I also have my struggles.
Opening a book for mental health is nothing like opening an app; books are deliberate, deep, and reading the right book, purposeful. Books that deal with mental health encourage us to change the way we perceive the way we live our lives.
Now is the time to make mental health a priority. We all get one crack at ‘life.’ Without good mental health, it will be hard to live a life that is deliberate, deep or purposeful, if you want to check out the details at the top of this blog.

Covid-19 shines a light on Mental Health
If the pandemic has shown us one thing it’s that we should be thinking about and dealing with mental health, and we’re not.
Mental health is usually for someone else. We’re too busy ‘getting on with life’ to think about our emotions, or how we feel. We’re too busy making ‘things,’ a priority without thinking about the foundations that prop our mental health up.
But none of us are free of mental health issues. And although you may not be in ‘flight or fight’ mode all the time and may only associate ‘flight or fight’ with mental health, there will be times when the spotlight shines on you.
The pandemic has raised issues around mental health and for the most part, it’s being ignored. It’s an inconvenience, it’s something for someone else, ‘I’m too busy’, or ‘I’ll think about it tomorrow,’ or ‘it’s an inconvenience,’ or ‘I don’t have issues, or ‘I’m alright Jack…’ but that’s not true, we all have something.
Although I never initially saw myself as the type to have mental health issues, or what those meant. It was only in my forties that I began to think about or equate what I had been through, and with a diagnosis and for the first time I started to do something about it.
But the list of excuses will continue to go on around mental health, until you choose to deal with your ‘mental health,’ really deal with it. No one is free of mental health issues. Mental health is part of the human condition, which needs to be continually addressed, if we are to obtain and have optimal wellness.
Losing a loved one too early to lung cancer who was a non-smoker, but struggled with emotional health, I have seen it. In the pandemic, Mental health needs to be addressed by each of us, even more so now because we’re further away from anything resembling ‘normal.’ There is no ‘normal’ anymore.
You’re navigating a life around a virus that you can’t see, that strike at any time and with precautionary measures lifted completely, you are more at risk and can still get caught out. Mental health needs to be your priority.
What’s it going to take for you to deal with your mental health?
All book proceeds are going to charity, so if you fancy grabbing your copy, so charities may benefit, please go to the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

Self reflective
Note worthy
Pick up and put down time and time again
What an absolutely joyous read.
I made so many notes, annotations and self discoveries whilst reading this little masterpiece, it’s going to be difficult to squeeze it all into one review.
First of all, this is a genre that I adore! Self-help, reflection and personal growth is the kind of book I always have on the go to keep me grounded and feeling my best, most authentic self.
If you are also more curious about this kind of self discovery and delving into the world of spirituality, this book is the best place to start!
Although I do a fair bit of research and an fascinated by spirituality, my eyes were opened to certain elements I knew nothing about, such as the psyche and self-inflicted limitations
*****/5
Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a toolkit to work on emotional strength and spiritual growth
How do you develop yourself? What would you like to know more of? Thank you so much to @instabooktours for inviting me to be a part of this tour and providing me with a digital copy of this book

Spirituality, Healing and Me – Ilana Estelle
I love a self-help inspirational educational mash up of a book. They just feel comforting to me, and this book is written in such a nice, easy to read manner. It doesn’t feel preachy at all, which I think a category some books like this can fall into.
I didn’t expect to learn so much about ethical principles, karma, and integrity. I mean when talking about spirituality you do broach on the subject of death and the possibility of life after death which I find so interesting. Loved the quotes throughout and Ilana just seems to have this amazing positive outlook and that comes through in her writing. I want to read everything she writes from now on!
This is definitely one that I will be dipping back into in the future. Thank you to Vic and Ilana for the gifted copy.

••• SPOTLIGHT •••
I recently had the pleasure of reading Spirituality, Healing and Me by @ilana_estelle_author as part of a book tour arranged by @zooloosbooktour.
When I saw @instabooktours have Ilana on tour, I jumped at the chance to do a spotlight post for her as I love her books that much. I absolutely adored this book and felt it took me on a journey I wasn’t expecting. It was so eye opening, so raw and real; it was one of my favourite, reads last year.
I think everyone should give this book a go, you might find out things about yourself just by reading Ilana’s story.
Thank you to the gorgeous @instabooktours for giving me the chance to have spotlight post on this book!

Book Tour Reviews - 1
Spirituality, Healing and Me
‘Book Tour Reviews’
I am currently doing a ‘book tour review tour’ for ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ to celebrate the launch of the book in the USA on the 1st May, 2022. If you’re interested in buying a copy, I would be grateful for your support.
banksyyy_books
First of all, thank you so much to @ilana_estelle_author for the proof copy and @instabooktours for organising this book tour!
I often find it very difficult to rate non-fiction, therefore I will discuss which aspects of this book I enjoyed more than others.
I believe that spirituality is about “what makes me me”. As a trainer in the mental health industry, I often discuss the importance of attitudes, beliefs and values in shaping our actions and experiences. It was so great to see this mirrored in the pages of Ilana’s book. I admire Ilana’s ability to remain positive in spite of all the hardships she has encountered in her life, and as such, I was inspired.
I loved that Ilana brought elements of Psychology into the mix. After finishing my Psychology BSc in 2017, I continue to enjoy reading about the subject I have been so passionate about for many years. Ilana incorporates mindfulness, which is something I try to practice whenever I can.
If I had this book in physical format, I have no doubt that I would have tabbed the parts that resonated with me most strongly, so that I could refer back to these when I need a change of perspective. Therefore, if you do check out this book, my advice would be to purchase it in paperback – available as of yesterday (happy publication day for yesterday @ilana_estelle_author )
One thing I would have loved to see more of would have been more context from Ilana’s life. However, I’m sure this just means I need to check out her other novel, A Cerebral Palsy Story, which I know was loved by many, including the lovely @whatslottiereading
alice.in.story.land
What an eye opening book!
As someone who is already very spiritual this book really spoke to me from the very first page.
I won’t lie I have been having a really tough time recently and my spiritual journey has taken a massive back seat and after reading this I have realised that was the wrong thing for me to do.
This book teaches us how to live a spiritual life and how it can be used to help not only you but others too.
It tells you about selflessness and humility, karma (the real meaning), why integrity is so important.
This is by no means a religious book and it is not pushy in any way. If you are unsure if you are spiritual this is definitely the book for you to help you with your journey.
Thank you to @instabooktours for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I will definitely be recommending this to my circle (spiritual group)
If you’re interested, I would be grateful for the support. If you fancy grabbing your copy so charities may benefit, please go to the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

We can all get sick
It may be that you agree with the lifting of restrictions in the UK. I know how tying masks can be, but this isn’t one of those situations, where any of us have guarantees we won’t get sick, because the virus is still out there, it can strike at any time.
You don’t know that the person sat next to you on the tube isn’t sickening for Covid-19, or the relative you’ve just seen has been near someone who they didn’t know had Covid. I know dealing with respiratory disease, I can’t afford to try that out.
And whilst masks are no longer a requirement in the UK, no one’s safety is guaranteed. I manage a walk and the hairdressers through prior arrangement with my stylist. I wear a mask and visor, which saves me from potentially getting sick.
The rest of my social time has gone. It is prudent for us to continue to wear masks in public places. Would you rather not do something and get sick, or do something that keeps you safe and avoids sickness?
Wearing masks is keeping us and each other safe, it’s keeping our loved ones safe. It’s also helping the virus dissipate, it’s what we need, it’s what the world needs. This is a pandemic, we can all get sick, and we have no guarantees.
Our only guarantee is that we can all get sick and for those who have become infected, they can get reinfected. Please help to keep yourself safe, so those who are vulnerable and high safe, can also get back into their lives.

Keep the Faith
My accomplished achievement is achieving something, when I was expected to achieve nothing, and I couldn’t be prouder.
It’s not about my website, or my books. It’s the fact that I have turned my life around, simply by being me and doing what I am able to do, write. It’s not what I have accomplished, it is proving all my critics wrong.
I was never supposed to achieve. Slow to learn, my life was never supposed to go like that. I had a disability, that’s how that went. When others ignored me, I was holding on. Unconsciously, I hadn’t given up on myself and that was important.
I had little choice but to accept what was happening and to go with the flow, it’s how I survived, but I believed in ‘me’ and the universe believed in me, it knew I was worth more, it knew I was down, it knew I was failing, but it didn’t give up.
The universe knew all my struggles, it knew that where others were thinking, ‘oh it’s just Ilana,’ well the universe knew it wasn’t just Ilana and today my life tells a different story. The universe knows us more than we know ourselves. It knows what we’re capable of, but we also need to be instrumental and want that change.
I was desperate for that change. I didn’t know how my life would change. But no matter what happens, or what your hardships are, it is important to keep the faith. Yes, I kept the faith.
