Being aroace is so cool, but so, so hard sometimes. Watching all the persons you hold dear finding *their* person. Grieving the idea of an allo relationship. Realizing that, maybe, somehow, you're the second choice fo everyone. Because friends are great, but **lovers** are the goal in our society.

Most of the time, i am sooo happy to be aroace. And then, when im alone in bed, at 3 am, i find myself crying by fear of being alone.

And I think it's normal. It's grieving a certain way of thinking. And it's hard, especially when you were raised this way, and that everyone keeps doubting your identity.

So yeah. Shout-out to all the aroace people, wanting a deeper connection, without wanting romantic love.

At the end of the day the actual heart of the matter isn't whether it's okay to ship aro/ace characters, it's the fact that so many people do not know how to interact with media or write fanfiction that isn't centered around romantic + sexual relationships.

There are so few canon aro and/or ace characters that it shouldn't even be an issue. The question shouldn't be "Are we allowed to do the exact same thing with this .0001% of characters that we do with the other 99.9999% of characters?" it should be "What can I do with this fun opportunity to explore these characters and stories in a different way?"

like i said, people can do what they want! they can stray away from canon, and they can have fun—that’s the point of a fandom! im allowed to give my personal opinion about a certain variety of content if i wish to. when i post content about aroace representation, my intent isn’t to dictate, but to inform! behind every artwork and fanfic, there are real people who are dismissing sexual orientations, and it is my intention to indirectly assess that line of thinking and question the real implications behind it. fanon doesn’t affect canon, but it reflects real life. hope this cleared it up!

the stigma around this post has been unnecessarily negative, and so i feel the need to address some things

i am allowed to feel uncomfortable in response to the over-sexualization and romanticization of aroace characters AS AN AROACE PERSON!

i am also allowed to point out the double standard of how my identity is treated by the general public!

representation of minorities is scarce, it’s very controversial to go out and erase that! have fun with your hcs and fan fiction, stray away from canon—but i personally will not be going into it with such an ignorant mindset!

by no means am i expecting an entire fandom to just drop this sort of thinking, i am just trying to spread awareness about the representation of a-spec characters in media and how that reflects real life!

it’s very relevant to listen to these voices and hear them out, and to come into these discussions with an open mind rather than a childish dismissive attitude

please block me and DNI with my posts if you like encouraging the erasure of representation!
