there's something to be said about how public unawareness about aspec identities contributes to the infighting within the aspec communities.
for example, I've seen a lot of "don't say ace people don't have sex because that's harmful to the sex favourable aces" and the opposite: "don't say ace people can have sex because what about the sex repulsed/averse?"
and they're both valid points, but because of it, aspec posts have to cater to the entire spectrum or risk starting arguments over this. Ideally, people could look at an aspec post and accept that it's for a different part of the aro/ace spectrum to where they are, but that's where the public unawareness comes in
because outside of the aspec communities, there's so little understanding of what the terms mean, that people within the community have to make every post generic so that the unaware won't see one post and make an assumption for the entire community based on it.
I see where every side is coming from, but infighting doesn't really solve any of the issues. The only thing that can start to solve it is more expansive aspec media representation, and spreading the "aro/ace identities are a spectrum" posts as much as possible to reach outside of the community, rather than trying to make specific posts fit that generic message.

Add on to the Alastor Aroace rant
I know Vizi said that you can have "respectful fun" with Alastor ships but there really is no way to "respectfully" ship a aroace character (unless it's queer platonic ig?) I know it's silly to expect a fandom not to ship especially with a character like Alastor but I thought more people would at least attempt to respect his sexuality.
Like I said before if it was any other character's sexuality being disrespected and disregarded people would throw a fit (rightfully so) I'm just sick one of the only aroace characters in the media is being erased by the fandom like this.
ADD ON: in my other post I talked about how people use the excuse when shipping Alastor that aroace is a spectrum while yes it is and that should be respected there are people on the spectrum that don't want any relationships or sexual acts and Alastor is our rep and it should be respected

I wanna talk about the prehispanic and mesoamerican representation of music in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The music was my main motivation to go see the film (alongside with the introducing of Tenoch, one of my favorite people inthe world).
The day of the Mexican premiere, my facebook feed was full of photos of musicians (whom I follow for their prehispanic instrumental and amazing work thru the years in the band TRIBU and colabs with musicians Arturo Meza, Jorge Reyes and Rastrillos) attending the premiere and revealing that they participated in the making of the music for the film!
Tumblr media
The news clearly moved me to inexplicable levels because those musicians: Ramiro Ramirez Duarte and Alejandro Mendez Rojas, have spent decades working and promoting research, practice and recognition of prehispanic instruments and how mesoamerican music might have sounded.
Tumblr media
In addition, these musicians (one with degree in ethnomusicology and anthropological research and the other as a member of the Otomi indigenous community in the north of the territory where I was born and live), have been and are part of projects and musical groups that have given original music and prehispanic instruments the place they deserve in the broad definition of Mexican music.
In an interview with La Silla Rota Guanajuato They explain that "Prehispanic music no longer exists, from that past only the instruments remain, their melodies".
Alejandro Méndez Rojas commented that is unknown how the music of that time was; everything was destroyed in the 16th century because the Spanish prohibited prehispanic musicians and everything that had to do with ancient culture, they stopped making the instruments, there were no longer any manufacturers.
Did you get chills when the Talokani first came out and hypnotized the ship's crew with their voices? This is what you hear:
Did you feel the love and pain through Namor's origin story? This was what accompanied that feeling:
The pieces Namor, Lost in the depths, Yucatán, Namor's Throne, Imperius Rex and Sink the ship also have remarkable elements from prehispanic instruments and voices.
Hearing the distinctive sounds of snails, flutes, rattles, drums, and canes at epic and emotional moments in the film made my heart race and pride prickle my skin.
About "Árboles bajo el mar", Alejandro Mendez Rojas explain in their social media:
"In this piece I composed all the sounds made with prehispanic instruments. I used a Tepehuano bow, tortoise shells percussed by Huave deer antlers, Mayan double-diaphragm whistle, Mayan trumpets, Tezcatlipoca flute, Mayan tunkul among other instruments made by me.
Thank you for allowing me to promote Mesoamerican musical instruments through their sounds in this film and thanks to all the people who collaborated on this piece."
With their work and passion for the music, they become heroes too:
Tumblr media
“One way to ensure that instruments are not lost is to build them again, to execute them, to carry out work so that they last, so that they remain alive.
I think that the instruments of prehispanic Mexico deserve that boost, that promotion to enter a world where there is musical diffusion, the instruments deserve that stage to be better know, we have worked with them for many years, have cost us diffusion"
Because it is another form of representation, it is another way of saying "we are here", but on a large scale, it is an opportunity to continue preserving our culture, our roots and to allow it not to go out.
Tumblr media
"Mexico has a wonderful ancestral legacy, worthy of being recovered and put into circulation again, the instruments will come to life in every human being who listens to them"
Please, listen all the music from the original soundtrack and give them a lot of love. Thank you Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Goransson for let it be this wonderful dignity manifesto that is Wakanda Forever.
🖤🤎

"Many of my movies have strong female leads," Miyazaki said in an interview with The Guardian in 2013, "brave, self-sufficient girls that don't think twice about fighting for what they believe with all their heart.
They'll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a savior. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man."

Hi I am a Aromantic and asexual person.
I don't mine the romantic and straight up porn made of alastor. I even participate in writing and drawing it!! I enjoy that he is also ace and aro and he still is when I write/draw these things they don't erase who the character is to ME!
I am a Demi ace and aro person!
Which means experience a little bit of romantic and sexual attraction.
Hello
So, what's posted on the internet about characters is what gives representation since it's posted for everybody to see and notice and feel represented by. The Alastor shipping ruins his canon sexuality and the knowledge of it. With characters like Angel Dust and Vaggie, by the ships and fanarts made of them, you could guess and notice what their canon sexuality is, most likely, and thats what makes up the representation. But with Alastor, the fanarts and ships don't represent the fact he is aroace, which is why I don't like when people ship and make nsfw fanarts or smut fics with him. The fact that his character is reduced down to sexy deer man a lot also bothers me, people can't appreciate good characters, and it's upsetting. Representation and characters themselves are made for people to look at and say, "That's just like me!" People are supposed to feel represented by characters, and how am I supposed to feel represented when all the fandom does is dehumanize him, and erase that representation I should be represented by.

May Calamawy on being the first Egyptian-Palestinian woman to play the MCU’s first Egyptian superhero:
“I had to really sit with it and be like, I cannot represent every Arab woman or every Egyptian woman…I just hope that all Arab women can watch that and feel like a Super Hero, and that they have that space on that big scale. I hope that the people who can relate to Layla feel seen and excited, and people who don’t, that’s OK. There’s space for everyone. I’m just the first. There’s many more that can come. It’s an honor. It’s an honor just to be able to represent or to be Middle Eastern, and shine a light on that region.”
-
Iman Vellani on being the first Pakistani young woman to play a teenage Muslim Pakistani superhero in the MCU:
“I’m honestly so privileged that Marvel trusts me to bring a character like Kamala to life. There’s so much weight that comes with being the first of anything. They’re like, ‘You don’t go to work thinking that you’re the first Muslim superhero; you just go to work and have fun.’ That’s what I keep telling myself: I don’t really have to go out of my way and advocate for Muslim and Pakistani representation. This is one story of one girl. We cannot represent all two billion Muslims and South Asians, but this is definitely a good start.”

SPOILER WARNING FOR THE OWL HOUSE
My six year old little brother (who is also autistic) watches the owl house with me and it really shows how important representation is and how it really doesn’t affect kids at all.
As many people know todays episode we finally got a Lumity kiss. When my brother saw it he didn’t question it. He was actually excited. He screamed “finally!” when he saw it. He didn’t ask “why are two girls kissing” or anything like that. He was happy and excited. (He also got very angry at Odalia. He does not like her. “How dare she say that! They’re soulmates! She’s mean” Was his response to her being mean to Luz).
My brother and I are 12 years apart so I’ve helped raise him. And I personally have done my best not to gender family dynamics or love. He has known from the get go that “sissy likes girls and boys. And that’s okay.” And he knows some families have two mommies or two daddies. And that’s okay.
He is not bothered by any of it. He views gay couples the same way he views straight couples. And he is six years old. And autistic. This just shows that representation isn’t a bad thing and that it’s not that hard to learn about the queer community and respect the people in it.
If an autistic six year old can learn about and respects the queer community, so can you. There really is no excuse to prevent children from learning about these things. It just makes them more compassionate and understanding. It’s important to teach children these things. It’s not inappropriate. It’s not wrong. It’s just learning about normal modern day society.

Alastor edit by me !
I've recently made a post talking about how Alastor is aroace and that should be respected and I've gotten a lot of comments saying that he is not real and it doesn't matter what you do with fiction. While this may be true to a certain extent. You should still respect canon sexualities, because those sexualities are representation and it should not be removed or disregarded.

I was thinking about the live action Little Mermaid movie and a sudden realization hit me: it will be review bombed to death. There’s already so much BS coming from white supremacists about how Disney ruined the Little Mermaid by casting Halle Bailey as Ariel instead of a white woman (this is where I would like to remind you all that the original Little Mermaid story is actually based on a queer man’s unrequited feelings for his friend who fell in love with a woman, so if we want to actually talk about keeping the Little Mermaid close to the original source material then we need to make it gay).
Sources: [x]//[x]//[x]
I also want to bring up the fact that people have already review bombed Lightyear to death simply because Chris Evans did the voice for Buzz and not Tim Allen (a lot of it happened before people knew there a gay kiss). People also review bombed Turning Red because pads were not only spoken but were shown on screen. So imagine how bad it’s going to be when the white supremacist that worship a white washed Jesus (this is where I would also like to remind you all that white Jesus is based on Leonardo Da Vinci’s boyfriend). So I’m begging you to please give it a 5 star review even if you think it’s a charitable 3/5 to help counterbalance.
It’s also so important that this movie succeeds because it means that Disney will do more of it. The reason why is because Disney is money hungry and if they see that a casting a woman that was originally white was a bad idea, they’ll do it less. It’s important that more POC are in the spotlight for the future.
In addition to the reactions of seeing a black Ariel, I want to use my own life as an example:
In 2009, I was watching TV with my mom and a very well known fact about my mom is that she hates commercials. She gets upset if a commercial is on for 10 seconds. But one time in 2009 while I was fast forwarding, my mom made me stop and rewind to watch a trailer that peaked her interest. That trailer was for the Princess and the Frog. It was love at first sight and every time we would watch TV as a family, she always made us rewind to watch the trailer for the Princess and the Frog because Tiana was the first black princess ever. Tiana was the first princess that looked like my mom.
Then you have yesterday when I showed my mom the trailer for the Little Mermaid, she was holding back tears with the largest smile when she saw Halle Bailey’s face.
To use another example, in Moon Knight, when Layla became Taweret’s avatar/the Scarlet Scarab, this happened
Tumblr media
[ID: a tweet by Mohamed diab, director for Moon Knight, that reads “Since my daughter was 4, she wanted to straighten her hair. She never saw someone who looked like her in the media. Today this changes with LAYLA, the first Egyptian superhero. Proud to be a part of it!” underneath on the left is picture of Layla as Scarlet Scarab in episode 6 and on the right is a picture of his daughter.]
There’s reasons why I constantly bring up the fact that I’m a black woman. It’s important because I want to spread as much awareness about how isolating my childhood was and if it means that one less person has to grow up like me, I feel like I can leave this mortal coil with some peace.
PLEASE don’t let this movie flop, I beg of you.

"Environmental activist, model and Native American advocate Quannah Chasinghorse didn't see faces like hers staring back at her in the magazine and catalogs she pored over as a young girl. With her Native jewelry and her Hän Gwich'in facial tattoos, a tradition that dates back thousands of years, Chasinghorse has redefined what beautiful looks like and who gets paid to represent "beautiful." And Chasinghorse knows that representation matters. A lot.
Her groundbreaking work isn't limited to the pages of fashion magazines. The Indigenous model, a member of the Hän Gwich'in and Sičangu/Oglala tribes, is also an outspoken advocate on issues of environmentalism, sustainability, women's rights and Native American rights."

I dunno if it’s just my wishful thinking or an actual accurate observation, but the more I look at ROTTMNT and more specifically Leo the more I feel like he’s queer coded. At least a little bit, it’s something about his body language and gestures and demeanor. I dunno if it’s been confirmed or anything, like how the creators confirmed Donnie was written as autistic, but I really want it to be true. I like to see my people be represented, ya know. And Donnie already brought some neurodivergent rep and my ADHD brain is so happy. If Leo was actually fruity I would be so fricking happy, y’all have no idea

I do think that Angel Dust is a good SA representation, but the show takes away from the representation by making SA jokes like they did with Sir Pentious. They're taking away the seriousness of Angel's situation with them, and It's not a good look for Vivzie. I've heard many stupid arguments on why people say the show is bad, but this is one of the good reasons why someone wouldn't like it, and I don't blame people for it. I hope these types of things get resolved and the show stops contradicting itself.
