to be so lonely
REQUEST FROM @gxvrielle : George Weasley x Reader. I wanted the reader to be a muggle who is best friends with Hermione and attends her Wedding with Ron. She meets the Weasley Family and can't help but grow interested in George.
this one definitely got away from me. i had to cut it a bit short at the end, but if there’s interest for part two, i got yall!
hope this is what you wanted! or, at least suffices.
“Millie, you absolutely cannot tell anyone what I’m about to tell you.”
The summer heat was beating down on the two young girls. One had a wild, unruly bush of brown hair. The other, the smaller of the two, had her long brown hair pulled back in two neat ditch braids. They sat side by side on swings, their feet dragging them to a stop. Hermione Granger and Millie Wilkins had been friends since they were in diapers, and had no plans of changing that.
Millie nodded, her big green eyes staring doefully at Hermione. The tone of her friend's voice was different than usual, and it seemed to set off an alarm in the back of her head. She couldn’t help but feel that something was changing, shifting.
“Y’know how I can.. Do things that you can’t?” Hermione began, waiting until Millie nodded before continuing. “I’m a witch, Millie.”
It seemed as though Hermione was waiting for Millie to yell, maybe cower in fear, or even run away from her. The caution that was written all over the bright young girl's face almost made Millie laugh, were it not for her astonishment at the revelation Hermione laid down in front of her.
“A witch?” Millie repeated in hushed tones. “Like… like Cinderella’s godmother?”
Hermione nodded vigorously, her curls flopping about wildly. “Yes, exactly! Well, probably not exactly, but.. Close enough.”
Millie nodded, chewing her lip thoughtfully. “How d’you know?”
Hermione’s brown eyes glittered wildly, and she launched into an animated recount of a woman named Professor McGonagall, who had come to her home and explained that she was a witch. Hermione would be attending Hogwarts in the coming school year, a special school for witches and wizards. She would need to get special supplies, like a cauldron and even a wand, in a place called Diagon Alley, which was only available for magical folks to enter.
A hard lump seemed to have settled in Millie’s throat, as she realized that her only friend, her very best friend, nearly her sister, would no longer be with her in their next school year. It appeared that the only time she would get to see Hermione would be during the summer.
It appeared that her world had shifted around on its axis. It was a lonely feeling, even with Hermione right beside her.
Ever the intuitive child, Hermione seemed to catch onto what Millie was feeling.
“Oh, Millie, I asked if you could come with,” Hermione’s nose scrunched, and her mouth twisted down. “But she said you’re a muggle. Muggles can't come to Hogwarts.”
Millie’s heart twisted painfully, but she mustered a smile for her best friend. “Well, that just means you’re going to have to tell me all about it next summer. Oh! Maybe you could write me while you’re away!”
Hermione’s eyes glittered with excitement, and she launched into a detailed account of Owl Post, which is what magical folk used to send mail. Millie was almost able to forget that things were changing, as she felt herself get swept away in the excitement of the wizarding world that she herself would never be part of.
Hermione’s departure soon after was full of tears and many sleepless nights for Millie. She felt out of place without her best friend, and found it difficult to find her place in her new school. Hermione was supposed to be here, and it was hard for Millie to adjust without her. She constantly found herself daydreaming about the mysterious Hogwarts, and wished more than anything she was with Hermione.
Millie found herself drawn to the world of crystals and tarot cards around her fourteenth birthday, much to the amusement of Hermione. Millie soon became almost an expert on the subjects, and she felt more at ease having found her own kind of “magic”.
Summer rolled around once more, and Hermione had many stories to tell Millie of her new friends Ron and Harry. It appeared that Hermione had found her place at her new school, and Millie was happy for her, as long as she ignored the twinge she felt at her best friend's adventures. There was also an awful little cockroach, Draco Malfoy, who was utterly disgusting to Hermione. Millie vowed if she ever ran into Malfoy, she would punch him dead in his face.
Time seemed to move fast, after that summer. Millie found a place in her school, and made a few friends, although none of them were like Hermione. She still waited anxiously for summer to come, so she could drink in all the magic of Hermione’s new world.
Of course, good things don’t last forever. Their summers began to be cut short, as Hermione was whisked away to her new friends, and Millie still knew Hermione well enough to know that the witch was hiding things from her.
Summers passed, school years came, and soon, Millie found herself ready to move onto university. She hoped she would see Hermione, one last time, before she left, but she didn’t hold much hope. Hermione had shared very little of her new life, but what she did share wasn’t positive. There was a wizarding war going on, and her best friend was in the thick of it.
It was a sweltering hot day, and Millie found herself lounging on her front porch, swinging back and forth on the swing as she re-read Pride and Prejudice. She loved romance novels, although she herself hadn't experienced anything of the sort. Of course, Millie had plenty of suitors, but none of them were right for her. She always had a reason, and excuse, but truthfully, she didn’t want something mundane. She was still captivated by the world of magic, and no “muggle” had yet measured up to what she wanted.
She had grown alright with the idea that she would forever be alone.
“Hello, Millie.”
The porch swing had stopped moving as another person sat next to her. Millie would know that voice anywhere. She placed her bookmark in the book, and set it down next to her. Turning her head, she saw Hermione Granger giving her a wistful smile.
She wore a pink jumper, and worn jeans. Her hair was as wild as ever, pulled back in a low pony. A stark contrast from Millie, who had jean shorts and a tank top on, her hair neatly pulled into a braid.
“Hermione,” Millie smiled, taking her friend in a hug. “I’ve missed you.”
Hermione smiled sadly. “I’ve missed you too.”
Their hug lingered for a few seconds longer than usual. Millie had a sense of foreboding grasp her, and she looked at Hermione sharply.
“I get the feeling that this isn’t a usual, ‘home for the summer’, homecoming, hm?” Millie raised her eyebrows, chewing her lip out of habit.
Hermione laughed humorlessly, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. “It’s not, no.”
Millie nodded, and the two girls sat in silence for a moment, swinging back and forth on Millie’s porch swing.
“I’m going to University soon,” Millie said in the silence, running her fingers along the rough worn wood of the swing. “It's a few hours away from here. My parents aren’t too thrilled about me moving so far away, but it’s what I wanted. I got Valedictorian, as well, although I’m sure it would have gone to you if you would have been here.”
Hermione smiled wistfully, taking Millie’s hand in hers. “I don’t know, I think my competition would have beaten me.”
Millie shrugged, enjoying the feeling of Hermione’s hand in hers. “I guess we’ll never know.”
“Remember how I told you about the war?” Hermione blurted abruptly, barely waiting for Millie’s nod. “It’s gotten a lot worse. Harry, Ron, and I have to go into hiding. I don’t know.. I don’t know if I’ll get to see you again, so I wanted to come say goodbye. I can’t stay long.”
Millie closed her eyes, feeling her heart thud in her chest. This was what she had been afraid of. Leave it to Hermione to make friends with the face of the Wizarding War.
“Be safe, Hermione,” the words came out funny, her throat was closing. “If you can, when it’s safe… find me. Goodbye, Hermione Jean.”
Hermione smiled sadly, and pulled her in for one more hug. “Goodbye, Millie Rose.”
Millie took one last look at Hermione, and when she blinked, she was gone. In her place, was a photograph the two had taken last summer. Hermione and Millie had each other's arms thrown over their shoulders, smiling and laughing. To her shock, they actually moved.
She gingerly took the photograph, holding it tightly to her chest. This was the last memory she may have of her best friend, and it was magic.
A few years passed, and Millie had graduated from University. Although she hadn't heard from Hermione, she had never stopped thinking of her friend. The magical photograph of the two of them stayed on her dresser as always, and she grieved the loss of her best friend as though she had lost a sister. It certainly felt as though she had.
Millie was able to get a job in her chosen field, primary education, and she was due to start next week. She had her own flat in London, decorated to her liking with hints of magic and literature hidden throughout it. Throughout her home, there were crystals of all different kinds and shapes. They were comforting to her, even if they weren’t wizard magic.
Although she had many good things in her life, she still felt as though she was incomplete.
It was the middle of the night when she woke up to the sound of something crashing in her living room. Her heart thudded, and her blood ran cold. She slowly got out of bed, pulling on her robe. She cursed herself for not having any sort of weapon, and settled for a rather heavy candle she had been gifted for receiving her new job.
“Honestly, Ronald, this isn’t how I would have liked to enter her flat, breaking her plant all over the floor-”
“Oh really ‘Mione, because breaking into her flat at two in the morning is such a good idea itself-”
Millie stopped in her tracks. She would know that voice anywhere.
Rushing into her living room, she flipped on the lights. Hermione Granger stood in her living room, arguing with a tall ginger man.
“Hermione-” Millie sputtered, unable to find words.
“Millie,” Hermione rushed forward, smiling widely as she gathered her into a hug. “I’m so glad to see you.”
Millie held onto her tightly, relishing in the smell of vanilla and gardenias that the young witch always smelled of. Hermione pulled away, a warm smile still on her face. Millie took note of the changes the young witch had. There was a thin white line on her throat, similar to the ones Millie had on her thighs. There were a few more worry lines on Hermione’s face, and although she looked tired, she also looked.. Free.
“Alright, Hermione,” Millie gestured towards her couch and began making her way to the kitchen. “You and your friend make yourselves comfortable, I’ll put on the tea.”
When Millie re-entered the living room with her tea tray, Hermione and the ginger were both sitting on the couch. The ginger had Hermione’s hand in his, his thumb rubbing smooth circles over her skin. Millie’s eyes widened in understanding, as she realized this must be Ron Weasley, the ginger Hermione always pined over.
“Well, Ron, it appears you finally got your head on straight,” Millie sniffed, sitting down in an armchair. “Poor Hermione didn’t think you’d ever find your sense and make it official.”
Ron’s mouth dropped open in shock, and Hermione laughed rather loudly, covering her smile with her hands. Millie smirked, taking her cup of tea and dropping three sugars inside.
“Oh, Millie,” Hermione shook her head, fixing her own tea. “I’ve missed you.”
They stayed up well into early morning, as Hermione finally told her all of the details she had withheld over the years. Everything with Voldemort, Harry, the war. Millie learned so many things that she felt she had no more room for new knowledge. By the time Hermione was done relaying everything, Millie’s eyes were heavy and she couldn’t stifle her yawns any longer.
“Oh dear, I’ve been keeping you awake,” Hermione shook her head, standing up. She flicked her wrist, and their tea dishes were cleared away. “Before we go, there’s one more thing I’ve got to ask of you.”
Millie nodded, in astonishment of the overt display of magic Hermione had given her. She had never seen her do anything like that.
Hermione glanced over at Ron, who had been admiring her the entire time. A blush coated her pale face, and she shook her head slightly as she looked back at Millie.
“I’m getting married, Millie, and I would love for you to be there as one of my bridesmaids.”
Millie hadn’t been expecting that, although she should have. It made sense, the way she and Ron interacted. “Of course, Hermione. I would love to.”
Hermione smiled brightly, and handed her a card with details on it. “I’ll have one of Ron’s brothers come for you, when it's time.”
Millie narrowed her eyes, looking down at the card. “Hermione, this says your wedding is in two days.”
Hermione nodded, looking bashful. “Yes, it took me longer than I would have liked for me to find you. Your parents didn’t live in our old neighborhood anymore.”
“Yes, I convinced them to move,” Millie said softly. “I wasn’t sure if they would be safe with.. Everything.”
Hermione nodded knowingly, a sad smile on her face. “I understand if you can’t make it.”
Millie shook her head. “No, I’ll be there. Just… not much time to look for a dress..”
Hermione scoffed, shaking her head. “Oh, Millie, please. I have one for you.” with a flick of her wrist, Hermione produced a shimmering pale pink gown.
Millie’s eyes widened in shock again at the magic, and she gingerly took the garment from Hermione. It felt soft, silky, and she instantly fell in love with it. “Thank you, Hermione.”
Hermione smiled, and gave Millie one last hug. “One of Ron’s brothers will be here to bring you on Saturday.”
Millie felt that Saturday couldn’t come fast enough. She would finally get to see Hermione’s wizarding life.
Saturday arrived both quickly and slowly at the same time.
Millie wasn’t quite sure what to do with her hair, so she settled on leaving it down in soft curls. She knew Hermione, so she didn’t bother doing much more than natural makeup. The pale pink dress clung to her curves in a shimmery, silky fashion, the top cut in a v shape that exposed her ample chest. She absently wondered if perhaps Hermione had enlisted someone else to pick out the dresses, as the color and fabric was the only thing that shouted Hermione.
Then again, it wouldn’t be far fetched to assume the girl -woman- had changed during the years apart.
At a quarter to noon, Millie sat perched on the edge of her couch. All Hermione had said was that one of Ronald’s brothers would be arriving to get her, and that seemed to be all the explanation she was going to be given.
A sudden shuffling from her fireplace alerted her to someone’s presence, and her heart leapt to her throat as, with a crash of dust and a flash of green, someone stumbled out from the hearth.
Millie gasped loudly, quickly picking up the first thing she could find- an Obsidian crystal tower with a rather sharp point. She brandished it towards the man that had arrived from her fireplace, but slowly lowered it as the red hair registered him to be Ron’s brother.
“Millie, correct?”
Millie nodded, lowering her Obsidian tower back to where it had been. The man was shorter than Ron, and burly, with a few tattoos peeking out from the sleeves of his black shirt. “Charlie Weasley, here to escort you to the wedding of the century.”
“Erm, alright,” Millie took a moment to center herself, nervously grabbing at the Amethyst crystal that was ever present around her neck. “How will we be..”
She trailed off, and Charlie gave her a warm smile. He reminded her of a giant teddy bear, and she felt her reservations slide away. “We’ll apparate.”
The word and definition came out from the recesses of her mind, a long ago conversation a much more naive Hermione and Millie had shared together while the latter had been drinking in any mention of the Wizarding world she could get.
Millie nodded, and rather awkwardly took Charlie’s arm that he extended towards her. “Hold your breath.”
An uncomfortable pulling began at her navel, and it seemed as though the world began to whip past them in a nearly unbearable speed. She could feel herself get nauseous, and as she felt her stomach twist, it all stopped. She would have fallen to the ground, had it not been for Charlie’s arm around her shoulders.
“Millie!”
Said girl swallowed hard, trying to rid herself of nausea. Hermione was rushing towards her, her wild hair tamed and pinned up in an intricate updo, light makeup on her face, completely out of place with the worn flannel button up and jeans she wore. An utterly Hermione combination, Millie thought with a smile.
“Gotta say, ‘Mione, love the outfit,” Millie teased, swallowing away the last bit of nausea she felt. “You’re missing something blue, and something new, however.”
Hermione tsked good naturedly and drew Millie in for a hug, pulling way to examine her childhood friend with an awestruck look. “Millie, you look so… Beautiful.”
“Oh please,” Millie waved away the compliment, blushing. “It’s just makeup. You, on the other hand… Stunning.”
Hermione beamed brightly, a new glow seeming to emanate from her face. A giggle escaped her lips, and Millie couldn’t help but notice the brunette seemed.. Different. Although, she couldn’t put a finger on it.
“I’m going to go find Luminita,” Charlie told Hermione, his face softening at the mention of whoever that was. He turned to Millie and gave her a hug, much to her surprise. “Nice meeting you, Millie.”
The two girls watched the redhead go off, and Millie turned to Hermione.
“Luminita is Charlie’s wife,” Hermione replied, smiling. “They met while he was training Dragons.”
“Dragons?” Millie questioned, but before Hermione could answer, she was interrupted.
“‘Mione, where’d you go?”
The two brunettes turned to see an utterly gorgeous redhead walk out from the oddly shaped house behind them.
“That’s Ginny, Ron’s sister, and my best friend,” Hermione explained quickly, smiling at Millie, noticing the flinch the other girl had at Hermione’s description of the beautiful girl. “At least, my Hogwarts best friend.”
Millie nodded, shoving her feelings of inadequacies away for a different time, and instead exchanged greetings with the exuberant redhead with a dry sense of humor. As she walked back into the house with the pair, she found it was easy to be in company with Ginny. She didn’t make her feel any less than the two of them, even though Millie knew she would probably be the only muggle there.
The house was suddenly thrown into a flurry of activity, and Millie found herself meeting many of the people she had heard stories of nearly her entire childhood. Arthur and Molly, Harry, Neville, Luna, Bill, and countless others that she hadn't heard of. It appeared that Hermione had delegated Harry to the task of leading her about and introducing her, as Hermione had her wedding to prepare for.
“So, this is the Burrow,” Harry explained a bit lamely, his eyes trailing back on Ginny, who disappeared into another room, presumably to follow Hermione. “We’ve spent a lot of our time here.”
“Yes, Hermione told me about that,” Millie smiled fondly, brushing one of her curls behind her ear. “The Golden Trio. I was always so jealous.”
Harry gave her a soft smile. “I think we may have been a bit jealous of you. Ron especially. You got to know Hermione first, before she became the brightest witch of our age.”
“Well, it’s interesting to know this,” she gestured around wordlessly. “Hermione Jean as well. Overwhelming, of course, but I always was fascinated by magic.”
Harry opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by a voice she hadn't heard yet.
“Oi, Harry, Ron’s going barmy, can you come speak some sense to him?”
Harry looked at her regretfully, turning to the voice. “Course, George. Can you keep Millie company?”
“Ah, ‘Miones friend?” The tall ginger man walked towards them, his eyebrows quivering in interest. “Sure, mate. Just make sure my brother doesn’t bugger off.”
Harry clapped the man on the back, said goodbye to Millie, and hurried off to wherever Ron was.
Millie took that moment to look at the man before her, her eyes widening at how attractive he was. It was rare that a man caught her interest in such an intense way, but George was… different. She felt drawn to him, although she wasn’t quite sure why.
“Millie, right?” George questioned, his warm brown eyes staring at her green ones. His lips turned up in a smile. “I’m George. Ron’s older brother.”
“George…” Millie trailed off, the name pinging her memory. “Fred and George?”
The reaction that name gave George was instantaneous. His smile crumbled, replaced with a firm line. His fists clenched, and a muscle in his forehead twitched. It almost looked like he was going to be sick, and he squeezed his eyes shut.
“I-I’m sorry,” Millie rushed out, wanting to place a hand on his shoulder but unsure if that would be the right response. “Erm, so, you’re Ron’s older brother, yeah? You guys sure seem to have an awful lot of siblings.”
He still had his eyes shut, and showed no sign of relaxing. She tried again, and began rambling in a way that should have embarrassed her, in a way that she only did with Hermione.
“I always wanted siblings growing up,” she watched his face carefully, waiting for him to show some sign of relaxing. “I had Hermione, and she basically was my sister. We basically floated between each other's houses, y’know? But I still had wanted my own sibling, my blood sibling. My mum tried, miscarried a few times. I didn’t mind much, because I had Hermione. But then she left.”
George seemed to be relaxing, and had opened his eyes. They were haunted. He nodded, in a way to urge her to continue.
“She left for Hogwarts, but we still had summers together.” Millie swallowed hard. “Then things got more complicated because of the war stuff you guys had going on. I was always so jealous of her, the magical world she got to be part of… But honestly, with everything she went through, I feel like I may have been lucky, to have been spared all of that hardship. Did you know muggles have their own version of witches and magic?”
The question seemed to have caught George off guard, and he clenched his fists and relaxed slightly, save for a furrow in his brow. “Yeah, card tricks.”
Millie laughed, an edge of relief mixing in. “No, more than that. Some muggles think that with intent and manifestation, certain things can be achieved. There are special stones as well, called crystals, that can help with that. There's different herbs too, which reminds me of Herbology that Hermione told me about. Even Tarot cards, which is like a form of Divination.”
George seemed almost taken aback by the onslaught of info she threw at him, and he blinked slowly. “Am I to assume that you participate in.. that?”
He didn’t say it in a degrading way, but she still felt a bit defensive and cursed herself as she blushed. “I… I do, yes. I’m wearing a crystal right now, it’s a rose quartz.” She pointed out her necklace, holding it out.
George reached out and took the small stone in his large hands, scrutinizing it. “It doesn’t feel much different from any old rock. It’s pretty, I suppose. What is it supposed to do?”
A blush coated Millie’s cheeks once more. “Erm, well. It’s a love stone. It, um. Opens the heart and increases self acceptance, it brings peace.. Helps with transitions, too… It basically helps in all facets of love, intimate or friendship.”
George blinked again, a small smile gracing his lips. “Are you finding it hard to find love, Millie?”
This time it was her turn to be caught off guard, and she took a moment to answer. George let the necklace drop back to her chest, and she didn’t miss the way that his eyes lingered on her chest. A thrill ran down her spine.
“Most people bore me.” She decided it was the easiest explanation, looking up to meet his gaze.
“I’m far from boring.” The words left his lips quickly, his brown eyes not wavering from hers.
She felt it again, that shock of electricity that seemed to emanate from George Weasley. She examined his face, a strong jawline and nose, with wide lips. A smattering of freckles across his face seemed to sharpen his features, disappearing underneath the smartly fitted suit he wore. His shoulders were wide, strong, and he was at least a head and a half taller than her. Even through the suit, she could tell he was muscular. And his hands… They were large and had almost a musical feel to them. She wondered, for a moment, if he played any instruments, muggle or magical.
Unbeknownst to Millie, George was drinking her in the same way she had done to him. It had been a long time since anyone, much less a girl, had peaked his interest. It had been exactly two years, three months, and seventeen days, to be exact.
Millie was short, something that had always been attractive to him. She was deliciously curvy, with wide hips and an ample chest. He had always liked bigger girls, and Millie was… exactly his type. She had long honey hair that brushed past the middle of her back, that fell in wonderfully soft curls he had to resist reaching out to grasp.
Her dark green eyes were framed by long lashes that seemed to sweep her cheeks when she ducked her head in a blush. Her hands were small, and he wanted nothing more than to hold his up against hers to revel in the size difference. Her lips were plump and paired perfectly with her ski slope nose, and carved cheekbones. He wondered what it would feel like to have her neck between his hands… and he had to stop his train of thought there.
“Georgie, good, you’ve met Millie,” Ginny appeared out of nowhere, startling the two out of whatever trance they had been in. “You two are walking together. It’s time to start, let's get going.”
The two looked away from each other suddenly, following the whirlwind that was Ginny Weasley. Each time their hands brushed, it felt electric, and Millie had never, ever, felt this way with anyone before.
They joined the rest of the bridal party, and Millie squinted as she tried to recall everyone that was there. The sun warmed their skin nicely, and they all arranged themselves in line and began their procession into the aisle, where they would eagerly await the appearance of the bride and groom. George held his elbow out for Millie, and she nearly jumped at the feeling she got when her arm as their arms interlinked. From the way George seemed to flinch, she wondered if he had felt it too.
Ginny and Harry led the way, with George and Millie following. Next came Neville and Luna, then Bill and Fleur, Percy and Angelina being the final ones to walk the aisle. Charlie was officiating the wedding.
As the music started up, and Ron was led down the aisle by his father, Millie couldn’t help but wonder who, exactly, would give Hermione away. Her parents were in Australia, forever addled by the memory charm the young witch had been forced to throw upon them. She couldn’t imagine who Hermione picked to replace them.
Hermione wore a beautiful white gown that bore a striking resemblance to the one Millie recalled seeing Cinderella wear. It was a story she and Hermione had been captivated with growing up, and when Hermione and Millie caught eyes, Hermione gave her a wink, and Millie nearly laughed. Of course, Hermione would have gotten Cinderella’s gown for her wedding.
Millie didn’t recognize the person leading Hermione down the aisle, but she was a tall, slender, formidable old woman, who had an undeniable air of authority around her. She had a soft look on her face as she walked Hermione towards Ron, and Millie could have sworn there was a tear in the corner of her eye.
“Thank you, Minerva.” Milie just barely heard the words leave Hermione’s lips.
The woman, Minerva, gave Hermione a swift hug before returning to her seat. The ceremony began, and Millie found herself staring at the people around her. Everyone here… they were Hermione’s chosen family. It nearly took her breath away to finally see them for herself.
Her eyes kept wandering to George, and each time she looked at him, he was already looking at her.
The ceremony ended rather spectacularly, with cheers of joy and hollers breaking out around them. Ron wrapped Hermione up in his arms, kissing her like she was the last woman on Earth. Millie’s heart swelled for her best friend. She had finally gotten her happy ending. Hermione deserved it more than anyone Millie knew.
Magical folk definitely knew how to throw a party. The backyard of the Weasley’s burrow transformed into a reception area complete with a dance floor, music, fireworks, and plenty of drinks and food that Millie hadn’t heard of before. She mingled with the people she had met prior to the ceremony, aside from George. She wasn’t sure where he had gone. It seemed as though after the vows were said and done, he disappeared into the crowd.
After an hour or so, Millie found herself slightly overwhelmed and needed a break. She grabbed a bottle of Butterbeer, that of which Hermione assured her actually contained no alcohol, and she wandered off to the edge of the property. Away from the crowd of people, she leaned against a tree, taking a deep drink from the Butterbeer. It was surprisingly good, and she laughed as she almost felt irritated that Hermione had never shared this with her.
“What do you find so funny?”
Millie nearly jumped, looking up to see George in the tree above her. “Oh my goodness, I had no idea you were there!”
George jumped down, landing rather gracefully for someone of his height. “Seriously, what did you find so funny?”
Millie gestured to her drink. “Just thinking that this is pretty good, and how I’m almost irritated that Hermione never brought this home for me to try. With everything I had to miss out on, it feels like this could have been one thing I got to share with her.”
George laughed, although it appeared to be humorless. “There’s a lot of things I wish I could share with someone who is no longer here.”
Millie cocked her head at George, waiting for him to elaborate. He didn’t seem as though he was going to, until suddenly, he ran a hand down his face and pulled a wand out from his pocket. Flicking his wrist, he conjured up a swing that hung from the tree, reminiscent of the one she had at home. He sat down, and motioned for her to sit with him.
“Just let me get out what I have to get out, and then comment, alright?” George asked, waiting for Millie to nod. She did, and he continued.
“Fred was my twin brother. We did everything together, always have. Towards the return of Voldemort, we opened up our jokeshop. It was super successful, just as we thought. We fought against Voldemort with our family, we fought during the final war, and Freddie… Freddie didn’t make it. It's been two years, three months, and seventeen days without him, but sometimes I wake up and I feel like he’s still there with me, and I’ll rush to go tell him something, but then… he’s not there. And I remember it all over again. When things like this, a wedding, happens, it’s harder. Because Freddie should be here, giving a speech about how we tried to make Ron’s name a taboo, or how we gave him a fear of spiders by turning his teddy bear into one, or how we burned a hole in his tongue with an acid pop, or just… anything embarrassing, because that was our job. And now, without Freddie, it’s pointless. Everything feels pointless.”
Millie waited for George to continue, but it seemed he was done for now. She felt her heart twist for the redhead beside her, and she placed her hand over his.
“I’m so sorry, George,” she said sincerely, watching as George swallowed hard. “I can’t imagine how that feels. I wish that I had the right thing to say, but there really isn’t one. I could go on about how it wasn’t fair and it was senseless, but you already know that. I think all I can say is that you are incredibly strong and although I didn’t know Fred, I’m sure he’s proud of you for making it without him. He’ll be waiting for you, when it’s your time. And then you can tell him about all the havoc you caused without him.”
Again, George swallowed hard, and he turned to Millie with a sudden urgency on his face. He gently placed a hand on her cheek, brushing a curl out of her face. His gentle brush felt like fire on her skin. His eyes flicked from her lips to her eyes, almost like a question.
Millie leaned forward, shutting her eyes, feeling his lips connect with her own. It was like fire, she was almost surprised that there wasn’t a flurry of electricity around the two of them. She hadn’t felt anything like this before in her life, and she reached a hand up to tangle her hands in his wild red hair.
His own large hands roamed around her neck, and down to her sides, his thumb brushing against the side of her breast. She moaned softly in his mouth, surprising even herself. He trailed his hand down further, stopping to rest on her thigh, his fingers gently massaging her skin through her dress.
Their lips parted, and George rested his forehead against hers. Millie felt her head swimming, and took a steadying breath, breathing in the scent of cinnamon that seemed to come from George.
“I think,” George murmured softly, clearing his throat. He pulled away slightly, reaching one hand up to cup her cheek, the other still on her thigh. “I think I may have underestimated you, in a way.”
“How so?” Millie asked, her heart thudding in her throat. What could he mean by that?
“You’re going to be far more important to me than anyone has ever been.”
Before she could respond, George stood, and held a hand out to her. She took it, a bit unsure, and he pulled her up from the swing, keeping her hand in his.
“Care for a dance, beautiful?” He asked, a crooked grin on his face, and Millie broke into a smile as she nodded.
His hand felt so wonderful wrapped around hers.
The two re-entered the party, which had only slightly begun to die down. George and Millie found a place for the two to dance with, and continued conversation.
“So, that thing around your neck is a crystal?” George asked, twirling Millie around in a circle to the fast paced song Millie didn’t recognize.
Millie nodded. “There’s other ones, of course.”
“Like what?” George asked, a smile on his face. “Tell me your favorite.”
“If I had to choose one, it would be Amethyst,” Millie replied thoughtfully, blushing as George rested a hand on her hip. “Although, Smokey Quartz is a close second.”
“What do they do?”
“Well, Amethyst is a calming stone, and it just balances everything out. I usually wear it everyday, unless I feel compelled to wear a different one, which is rare,” Millie supplied. “Smokey Quartz helps get rid of negative energies, and helps with organization. I’m always so disorganized.”
“It’s a good thing I’m a fairly organized person,” George winked at her. “What are your plans for tonight?”
“Nothing beyond going home,” Millie replied sadly, reality seeping into the rather magical night she had had. “I start a new job on Monday.”
“What do you do for work?”
“I just got my teaching credentials, so I’ll be teaching primary come the school year,” Millie smiled, her face softening. “For the summer, I’ll be teaching early childhood.”
“Little kids?” George questioned, smiling when she nodded. “Well, perhaps sometime soon you could come by my jokeshop. In Diagon Alley.”
Millie nearly shouted with excitement. “I could go to Diagon Alley?”
George grinned, nodding. “I think I could arrange that.”
Millie hugged him tightly, not even thinking twice. George didn’t hesitate, he wrapped the shorter girl in his arms, vowing to himself that she would experience magic for the rest of his life.

SUMMARY: history seems to have a habit of repeating itself when elanora snape overhears a conversation between harry potter, the boy she fancies, and his friends.
PAIRINGS: one sided Harry X fem!oc/Snape’s daughter
kinda angsty. hope you all enjoy!
Tumblr media
“Elanora Snape and Harry Potter.” Slughorn called, confirming what Elanora had been hoping against.
He kept pairing others together, but all Elanora focused on was that her always unfortunate luck had put her with Harry Potter. Not only was the boy awful at Potions, but her father despised him which meant they didn’t exactly get along.
Slughorn instructed them to go to their assigned partners. Elanora trudged along to where Harry sat, her heart beating in her chest.
Ron Weasley was whispering something to Harry, abruptly cutting himself off when she arrived. He didn’t give her more than a disapproving look, and she felt her lip lift in a sneer as he did so.
She sat down gingerly in her chair, tying back her long black hair with her nimble fingers. Harry nodded to her, pulling out his Potions book.
“Right, so we’re meant to make a poison antidote,” Harry stated awkwardly, running a hand through his unruly black hair. “Would you like to choose the Potion, or should I?”
“I can.” she offered quietly, sliding out of her seat. She could feel his eyes on her as she walked to the front of the room.
She plucked a glittering pink potion, recognizing it as a particularly deadly poison that, once ingested, ripped apart the person's insides. Holding it in her hand, she walked back to Harry, who was studying his Potions book intently with a frown on his face.
“All we’ll have to do is neutralize the acromantula venom in this,” she held out the vial. “And it shouldn’t be poisonous any more.”
“Brilliant,” Harry looked up, seeming disappointed in something. “Well, let’s have at it then.”
They set to work, talking only to discuss possible ingredients. Normally Elanora would be much more focused during a Potions lesson, as it was nearly second nature to her with her father being Potions master, but she kept getting distracted by how brilliantly green Harry’s eyes were. The light would catch them in the most spectacular of ways, sending different shades of green throughout the iris.
He kept running a hand through his hair, his long fingers messing up the already untidy strands. His jaw would clench in frustration every so often, and he would grip his book tightly, making the taught muscles in his forearms pop. Elanora found herself watching his every move subtly, swallowing hard and flushing whenever he would seem to catch her.
“Do I have something on my face?” Harry questioned suddenly, wiping at his cheek.
“Oh,” Elanora flushed, tapping her finger tips against the table. “No, I don’t think so.”
Harry made a noncommittal noise, eyeing her out of the side of his eyes. She resumed looking through her textbook, reprimanding herself for staring so heavily. He was just so beautiful.
Harry’s luck in Potions had seemed to run out as well. For whatever reason, Hermione Granger was smug about the fact. It made Elanora angry to see the bushy haired girl nearly euphoric at the sight of Harry and her failing to find the correct antidote.
As Elanora added pixie tears to the possible antidote, Harry suddenly stood from his chair and hurried over towards the supply closet. Her breath caught in her throat as she found herself mesmerized by his movements once more, and she quickly shook her head. There was no need for her to revisit her carefully hidden crush on Harry Potter. It was a fact that she had hidden from everyone else.
“This should do it,” Harry held out his hand, revealing a Bezoar in his grasp. “Think it’ll slide with Slughorn?”
A laugh escaped Elanora’s lips. “It just might. A bit bold of you, I must say.”
“Well, I would never try this with your dad,” Harry said offhandedly, setting the Bezoar down. “I’m sure he would have-” he abruptly cut himself off, as though he had just realized who he was speaking to.
“He probably would have spit in your face, and taken fifty house points from Gryffindor.” Elanora finished for him, a slight grin on her face. She knew her father could be an arse. That was the only side he ever showed at Hogwarts. He was a touch better at home, away from all the eyes.
Harry let out a started laugh, shaking his head as he eyed her appraisingly. “Yeah, he would have.”
His smile caused her tummy to begin performing an acrobatics routine. He was so handsome. Why did he have to be so handsome?
Much to Hermione Granger’s dislike, the Bezoar went over supremely well with Slughorn. Harry’s grin at the teacher's approval made Elanora grin herself.
From the moment of their pairing in Potions class, Elanora and Harry became more
cordial. It made the crush she harbored for the green eyed boy blossomed into full blown fancying. Her sixth year was already hard on her. Her best friend Draco had suddenly decided he no longer wanted to associate with her due to something going on with her dad. She wasn’t able to figure what exactly it was.
Harry had become the highlight of her year.
They were walking together after Potions, discussing the lesson. Usually he walked with Harry and Ron, so the fact that he was walking with her had her heart fluttering in her chest like a caged bird.
Harry was recounting a story from earlier in the year when he had mouthed off to her father, saying he needn’t call him sir. It was funny hearing Harry’s perspective, as she had already heard it from her father. Harry had grown more comfortable complaining about her father with her, as she had made it clear that she understood her father wasn’t perfect and definitely targeted Harry. She wasn’t quite sure why.
“Hey, Harry!”
Ginny Weasley appeared from the crowd. She didn’t spare a glance towards Elanora, instead smiling widely at Harry.
Harry was smiling back. He suddenly tugged at his shirt, running a hand through his hair. He had a look in his eye that was unmistakable. It was the look Elanora found herself giving him more often than not.
Her heart sank.
“Oh, hi Ginny,” Harry beamed, before glancing down at Elanora. “Mind if I catch up with you later?”
“No problem,” she forced a smile on her face, her throat constricting. “See you around.”
Harry smiled at her, and walked off with the beautiful redhead. Elanora’s face began to crumble, and she hurried along the hallway with her head down. She didn’t need to cry over something as trivial as this.
Later that evening, she resolved herself to speak with Harry. Maybe, if she told him how she felt, he would feel the same. She knew Ginny was dating Dean Thomas anyways. Besides, she had to admit she was fairly emotionally invested in Harry at this point. For all she knew, the interaction he and Ginny shared may have been entirely friendly, but her mind hadn’t allowed her to see that.
She had recalled him saying he was going to the library with Ron and Hermione this evening. She could walk in there, and ask to speak with Harry alone. Surely, with any luck, he would feel the same way. She had to hold onto that hope.
The library was huge, but she found the trio fairly quickly. Her heart swelled when she saw Harry’s unruly hair, but the words coming from Ron’s mouth made her falter in her step, and hide behind a bookcase as she eavesdropped on their conversation.
“So, Gin said you were walking with Snape after class,” the redhead let out a laugh. “Gin thinks she fancies you.”
“Elanora?” Harry questioned, straightening up in his chair.
Her interest was undoubtedly peaked now. A smile crossed her face, perhaps she was about to get her answer without asking him herself. Maybe Ron Weasley wasn’t a complete idiot.
“Yeah mate,” Ron sounded humourous. “Anything you want to tell us?”
“No,” Harry said quickly. “No way I’d ever be with a Snape. Don’t think I could ever get over the nose.”
The three bust out laughing. The words stabbed deep into Elanora’s heart.
“That’s a bit harsh, Harry,” Hermione reprimanded between giggles. “But I do see what you mean.”
“Hard not to, innit?” Ron joked, his laughter subsiding. They laughed again, before moving onto another topic.
With tears welling in her eyes, Elanora backed away. She wasn’t as careful as she should have been, and she knocked into the bookcase behind her, causing a few books to tumble to the floor with a crash.
The trio looked behind them, their faces reminiscent of a deer caught in headlights. Elanora felt her tears slipping down her cheeks in a steady stream, and she turned on her heel, leaving the books on the ground.
The few students she passed in the hallway gave her odd looks as she clambered through the hall to her common room. Her chest ached and her throat was tight, but she made it to her room before she completely fell to pieces.
She was so stupid. Why had she even entertained the thought of Harry liking her back?
Something inside of her shifted and cracked. Her sadness gave way to a burning pit of anger that settled in her throat. She wanted nothing more than to hurt them the way they had hurt her. But did she want to go that far?

It was half past one in the morning on Christmas Eve when Juliet woke up to someone prodding her face. She blinked her eyes clearly, finally registering that Ginny was the one who had woken her.
“Ginny,” she sat up, rubbing her eyes. “What time is it?”
“Time to wake up,” Ginny grinned, her lips quirked up in a devious grin. “Or have you forgotten our tradition?”
Juliet blanched for a moment, before realization hit her. “Damn. I had forgotten. Is everyone else already there?”
Ginny nodded, motioning for her to get up. “Yes, now come on!”
Juliet lugged herself off the bed, bringing her favorite blanket with.
Every Christmas Eve, early in the morning after everyone else had already gone to bed, the twins, Ginny, Ron, and Juliet held a sesh. The one time the Weasleys had been at Hogwarts over Christmas, Neville and Lee Jordan had joined them. It was always a tradition.
“Well well, we almost thought the ladies weren’t going to show,” Fred greeted as they walked in. “Would have had more for us.”
Fred was sitting against his bed, a bong between his legs, George next to him, while Ron sat on the other side with his back against the wall. Ginny sat next to Ron, and Juliet sat next to George. Her bare leg brushed against his, and she couldn’t stop the chill that went through her as she did so.
“Almost thought the two of you weren’t going to show,” George grinned happily at the girls, his eyes slightly glazed. They must have already started smoking. “We had to start without you.”
“Please, you probably started sometime after Molly had gone to bed,” Juliet shook her head, spreading her blanket over her bare legs. “As usual.”
Fred blew her a kiss, winking in reply. He passed the bong to Ron, who took a rather deep hit, before coughing it out nearly immediately.
“So far Ronnie’s the little bitch tonight!” crowed Fred, clapping his hands together as he laughed.
“Have you cast a silencing spell yet?” Juliet nudged George, nodding towards Fred who may as well have been a warning siren at the level of his noise.
George shook his head no. “That probably would be a good idea, though.” He waved his wand, and the room glowed a bright blue for a moment.
Half an hour later, Fred had taken to laying on the floor, furiously scribbling on a parchment a list of ideas for the joke shop. Ron was lying flat on his back, staring at the ceiling, which the twins had bewitched to display a twinkling night sky. Ginny lay next to him, pointing out different ones she saw. Juliet had rested against George’s bed frame, his hand in her lap as she played with his fingers.
George turned to Juliet, that same look on his face from Kings Cross. He blinked slowly, licking his lips. “Jules, can I shotgun you?”
Juliet felt her heart skip a beat, and promptly lodge itself in her throat. The logical part of her brain was screaming at her to say no, that it wouldn’t be good for her to do so with her newfound feelings for her closest friend, but that part of her brain was muddled and hazed from smoking. So she nodded.
“It’ll be easier if you sit on my lap.” George stumbled a bit over the last part, stretching his legs out in front of him.
“Okay.” Juliet breathed, as though it was the most natural thing in the world. Inside, she was screaming.
Juliet hesitated before kneeling in front of George, hesitantly sitting on his thighs. She wore nothing but her oversized tee shirt that hung to her mid thighs, leaving her bare skin to sit on his flannel pajama pants.
No one seemed to notice what they were doing, but she was hyper aware of George’s body under hers. She would never have done this sober.
George inhaled deeply as he took a hit from the bong before setting it back down, and then turned his face towards hers. He reached out his hands to cup her cheeks, his fingers tangling into her long hair. Leaning forwards, he pressed his lips to hers, their mouths parted, and he exhaled the smoke into her mouth.
Their lips lingered together for a moment longer than necessary, before Juliet pulled away to exhale herself. She coughed slightly, pressing a hand to her chest. George’s arms suddenly found their way to her waist, bringing her closer to him. She was now flush against his chest, pressed against where she could feel something hard against herself. Her eyes widened as she realized this, but she couldn’t bring herself to pull away. Partly from her hazy mind, and partly because she wondered what George was doing.
His lips crashed onto hers once more, moving with an urgency she hadn’t felt before. His hands ghosted from her hips to her hair, tangling his long fingers in the strands as he pressed her firmly against him.
She found herself wrapping her arms around his back, everything slightly tilted and out of sorts as she did. She didn’t fully register what was going on, all she could focus on was that she was finally kissing George, the boy she wildly fancied.
As their lips moved against each other, his hands moved down her bare thighs, groping at her soft skin. His tongue felt foreign on her own, fuzzy and out of place through the hazy fog of her mind. She hadn’t ever kissed someone like this before.
Once again, George’s hands found their way to her hips, holding her tightly against himself. Without thinking, she ground her hips against his, a soft moan releasing from her lips involuntarily. He groaned into her mouth, bucking his hips harshly up into hers.
That seemed to sober the two of them up, as they realized what they were doing.
They quickly pulled away from each other, Juliet hastily sitting back on the floor next to him, staring at the carpet as her cheeks flamed. Fred was laughing, loudly, and she didn’t dare look to see what Ron or Ginny’s reaction might be. She felt utterly foolish, and dirty. Had she really just made out with her best friend in front of his family for Merlin’s sake?
“I was wondering when that would happen,” Fred chortled, looking back down at his parchment. “Absolutely splendid.”
“What happened?” asked Ginny, looking over at the two of them from where she lay on the floor.
“Nothing,” Juliet quickly cut Fred off, standing up on shaky legs. “I just, erm, feel rather tired. I’m going to head to bed.”
With that, she quickly (or as fast as her muddled mind would allow her to) left the room, shutting the door tightly behind her, and headed to her room. What she hadn't expected was to run into Sirius, who was just leaving Buckbeak's room.
“Jules?” Sirius cocked his head, walking towards her. “What are you..” he trailed off, suddenly sniffing the air around her. “No shit? You’re high?”
“Uh, no,” Juliet wracked her brain for an excuse, feeling as though she were sorting through foam. “I am perfectly level.”
Sirius gave her a doubtful look, crossing his arms. “Perfectly level?”
“As a side bar.” she nodded, keeping her eyes wide and honest.
Sirius blinked once, then twice. “Good Godrick, is that the best you can come up with? You’re my daughter for Merlin's sake. We’re going to have to come up with something better than that for next time.”
Juliet tilted her head, her brow furrowed in confusion. His words spun round and round her mind, but she couldn’t quite understand what he meant. He seemed to notice this, and an exasperated grin appeared on his face, shaking his head.
“I suppose I’m reaping what I sow,” he muttered quietly, almost to himself. “All those years Rems and I did this to James, of course my daughter does the same.”
“I am completely following you.” Juliet nodded solemnly, attempting to at least appear as though she were coherent and understood.
“Right, right, of course.”
He motioned for her to follow him, and she followed him downstairs, pausing at a door that seemed oddly illuminated by a candle burning resolutely in the hall. It had a faint and peeling silver R on the front of the worn wood. She didn’t think she had ever seen the inside of the room before.
“What’s in there?” she questioned, sticking her thumb out towards the door. “Is the R for room of requirement? Have you got one of those here? I think that’s really swell and helpful for the order, dad.”
Sirius looked taken aback, not only by her question and her mumbling, but at the fact that she had openly called him dad for the first time.
“Well, no, good guess though,” he paused, his hand limply lying on the railing of the stairs. “That’s my younger brother’s room. Regulus.”
Her eyes widened once more. “Oh wow, he’s been in there this whole time? He’s wicked quiet!”
Sirius took a deep breath, as though to ground himself. “Actually, he’s dead. He was killed by Voldemort.”
Juliet faltered. “Oh wow. Sorry.”
Sirius shrugged, continuing down the stairs. Juliet followed, taking great care to hold the railing tightly. She followed him into the kitchen, where he motioned for her to sit down.
She sat, watching as he went into the pantry. The door creaked loudly as he opened it, remerging with two bottles of butterbeer and an assortment of snacks. He dropped the bounty on the table, and Juliet snatched a chocolate frog, suddenly ravenous.
“My brother decided to follow the family views and joined Voldemort and his supporters,” Sirius explained as Juliet munched on the snacks. He took a sip of butterbeer. “Suppose he got in too deep, and ended up trying to leave when he realized what was asked of him. Problem is, you don’t just get to leave. You get the mark for life.”
Juliet nodded, swallowing a sip of Butterbeer and taking a package of crisps from the pile on the table.
“That’s why I worry about you being friends with the Malfoys,” he said rather honestly, spinning the bottle cap from his drink on the table. “They’re Death Eaters, Jules. You’re a Black. A pureblood. Voldemort would love to have you on his side, especially because you’re close to Harry and the Order.”
“Don’t think he knows I like Harry,” Juliet disagreed, swallowing hard on a crisp. “Draco still thinks I’m upset that you like him more than me. He thinks I hate scarhead -Harry-, I mean.”
“I don’t like him more than you, Jules,” Sirius shook his head, looking sharply at her. “I love the both of you equally.”
Juliet was quiet for a moment, the only sound heard was the crunching of her snack. “Did you love James?”
“Yeah, of course I did-”
“No, like, did you love him as a boyfriend?”
Sirius sputtered at the question, looking as though she had beat him over the head with a bat. “For Melins sake- no, I did not love him like that! He was my brother!”
“Oh.”
It was quiet after that. The two of them ate a few more of the snacks, sipping their Butterbeer. By the time the clock struck one thirty, Sirius was herding her upstairs to her room. He made sure she was safely tucked into bed before he left, shutting the door quietly behind him.
Ginny was already in bed, her mouth agape as she snored loudly. The girl was normally a quiet sleeper, but each time after their Christmas Eve sesh she would take on the sound of a chainsaw. They always got well baked on these nights.
Juliet fell asleep nearly the moment her head hit the pillow, into a dreamless slumber.
It felt like she had just shut her eyes when she was being woken up by a loud crack near her head, causing her to jerk awake and fall onto the floor.
“Mphfm,” she groaned, slowly lifting herself off the ground.
“Sorry!” Ginny was apologizing, her cheeks red. “I knocked over my exploding snap from the twins and it went off.”
“S’okay,” Juliet sat on the bed, her head feeling a bit swollen. “Oh, our presents!”
“Thank you for mine, by the way,” Ginny beamed, motioning towards the beauty products that were lined up on the dresser. “You knew exactly what I wanted.”
Juliet waved off her thanks, gingerly sorting through her own pile. A handmade knit sweater, a dark emerald green with a silver J stitched on the front, from Molly. Remus had given her an assortment of books, ranging from different healing remedies, and jinxes/hexes with their counter curses. Sirius had given her a handheld mirror, with a note detailing that he had the other and they could use it to communicate when she was at Hogwarts. Ginny had given her a book with different beauty spells, and she flicked through it to see pictures detailing different makeup looks and hairstyles that could happen with the swish of your wand. Fred had given her a jar of peruvian darkness powder, something she knew he and George had been working on perfecting for some time now. George had given her a necklace, a dainty silver chain with a gleaming crescent moon charm dangling from it. On the back of the necklace, were the words ‘my moon and my stars’, written in a glittering lettering.
She held it in her palm for a moment, feeling it grow warm for a moment before cooling down once more. Odd, but she supposed George might have charmed it to do something special. That would be like him. She clasped the necklace around her neck, hanging below the hollow of her throat.
“We’ll be visiting dad today,” Ginny informed her, running a brush through her hair. “Expect we’ll be leaving soon. Mums had a rough morning, Percy sent back his sweater with no note, good for nothing knobhead..” she muttered a few other insults under her breath.
Juliet stood, digging through her trunk for something to wear. She decided on a dark grey turtleneck tucked into a dark green pleated skirt that fell to the top of her thighs, and grey thigh highs with a ruffled lace trim. Her hair was left down, in neat waves framing her face, courtesy of a spell from the beauty book Ginny had gifted her. The necklace from George glittered in the light.
Oh, Merlin. George.
The memories of last night came flooding back to her, and she nearly poked her eye with her mascara wand. She and George had absolutely made out and then she left the room.
Her heart began racing, and as she slid on her black boots, she prayed George didn’t remember. The sound of everyone conversing downstairs floated up the steps, and she made her way down fairly quickly. She at least wanted a cup of tea and a bite of toast before they headed to the hospital.
To her delight, Remus was there and accompanied them to the hospital to visit Arthur. She didn’t run into the twins until they gathered to leave, and as George averted her eyes, her heart sank. He definitely remembered the kiss if the way he refused to look at her was any indication.
When they arrived in the room and had greeted Arthur, Remus drifted off towards the werewolf, who had been looking rather wistfully at the crowd gathered around him. Juliet followed, taking the chance to escape the stifling presence of George who was still pointedly not looking at her.
“Happy Christmas,” Remus greeted, smiling kindly at the man. “I’m Remus Lupin.”
“I’ve heard of you,” the man grunted, eyeing him warily. “You were a Professor at Hogwarts, weren’t you? Until they found out you were a werewolf.”
Remus nodded, keeping a smile on his face. “That would be me. But between you and I, I think it was rather good luck I had been outed. The kids were a bit more wild than I had thought they would be, and my daughter seemed to take a liking to keeping me on my toes.”
Juliet smirked in agreement, he wasn’t wrong. The man turned his attention to her now, his eyes narrowing.
“Daughter?” the man questioned. Remus nodded. “Your wife stayed with you even though you’re a werewolf?”
Remus blanched for a moment. “Well, I don’t have a wife. Juliet is my adopted daughter.”
“They let you adopt a kid?”
“I was her godfather, and when her parents were no longer around, Albus Dumbledore vouched for me.” Remus explained, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Oh,” the man grunted, shifting in his bed. “S’pose you’ve had rotten luck with getting a job since the Daily Prophet article, huh?”
Remus shrugged. “It’s certainly been more difficult to find.”
The man nodded, looking deep in thought. “I got fired once they learned of my condition,” the word twisted from his mouth. “And I’m sure my wife is going to leave me next. She keeps wanting to visit but I don’t want her to end it while I’m laying in a hospital bed.”
“Has she given you any indication that she wants to end it?” Juliet spoke up, tilting her head to the side.
The man looked at her as though she had grown another head. “I’m a bloody werewolf, who in their right mind wants to stay with that?”
“There isn’t anything wrong with being a werewolf,” Juliet disagreed. “I mean yes, things will be harder, but if she really loves you it doesn’t matter. It’s a manageable condition, and it doesn’t make you any less of a person.”
“You wouldn’t understand.” the man scoffed, looking towards the window.
Juliet opened her mouth to retort, but Remus placed a firm hand on her shoulder.
“I understand,” Remus said quietly. “I was changed when I was five years old by Fenrir Greyback. I’ve had a lot of years to come to terms with my condition, and the one thing that you must remember is that it doesn’t define you. You cannot let it consume you and dictate every aspect of your life; you must learn to work with it instead of attempting to cut corners or ignore it entirely. Your life will never be as it was, but you can make your new normal.”
The man was silent for a moment, and Remus’s words seemed to sink it, as he then asked how he would go about trying to find another job. Remus conjured up a chair, settling in before telling him the different things that worked best for him.
“Can we talk?”
Juliet turned to see George looking down at her, his face unreadable for the first time to her. She nodded mutely, following him out to the hall. He checked rooms, finding one that was empty and pulling her in with him.
It was a regular hospital room, with an empty bed and various potions lined up on the wall. It was one of the private ones, meaning there was just one bed and an accompanying bathroom.
“I wanted to say that I was sorry about last night,” George said slowly, his words clear. “I wasn’t thinking clearly, obviously. I didn’t mean to overstep any boundaries.”
“Oh,” Juliet responded, feeling as though she had been winded. Her chest stabbed painfully. He said he wasn’t thinking clearly. “Right. ‘Course.”
“So yeah,” George rubbed his neck, teetering on his feet. “So we can forget that it happened, yeah? Go back to being normal?”
“Yeah, of course,” Juliet responded, but her voice was too high and didn’t sound at all like herself. “No problem. I think I’m just going to go back to the room, now, before anyone starts to wonder where we went.”
“Right, of course,” he responded awkwardly, moving towards the door. “So, no one has to know, Fred already promised he wouldn’t say anything.”
Her chest burned with shame. He didn’t want anyone to know that they had kissed. She felt mortified at the thought, he probably wouldn’t want anyone to know he had kissed a slytherin who was two years below him. How embarrassing! And she supposed he was worried about Alicia Spinnet, surely she wouldn’t be too happy to hear about that. And George certainly wouldn’t want to mess that up, she was perfect for him. Pretty and a Gryffindor, sans daddy issues.
“Right, wouldn’t want Alicia to get upset,” the words came from her mouth before she could stop them. “Wouldn’t want you to lose your dream girl over a stupid mistake.”
“What do you-”
Before George could finish his sentence, she darted from the room, blinking back tears that threatened to spill from her eyes. His rejection had hurt, and she hated that anything had ever happened. No matter how much she had kept thinking of his lips on hers, she would forget it all happily if it meant she hadn’t gotten a taste just for it to be ripped away. How could she just be friends with her best friend who had broken her heart without even knowing it?
By the time she had gotten back to the room, everyone was getting ready to leave. She quickly made her way to Remus’ side, keeping her head down. George had reappeared a few minutes after her, and no matter how many times he tried to get her attention, she pointedly ignored him as he had done to her that morning. It would do her no good to fill her mind with empty fantasies of what would never be.
They went back to Grimmauld Place, where Molly blasted Christmas carols in the living room, and everyone gathered to celebrate the last hours of the holiday. Juliet, Ginny, and Hermione danced along with Remus and Sirius, who kept giving each other the most peculiar of gazes. It was funny for Juliet to see how surprised everyone else was at Remus’ carefree attitude, as they had known him as their teacher. They didn’t know of the days he would dance with her to muggle music in the kitchen.
By the end of the night, everyone was rightly tired out from the excitement of the day. Juliet had made a quick race to her room, having successfully avoided George the entire night. No one aside from Fred had seemed to notice something was off between the two.
As she clambered up the stairs to her room, she very nearly ran into Kreacher, who was skulking around the portrait of Walaburga Black. He was muttering to himself, and gave her a dirty look as she apologized for running him over.
“Masters daughter apologizes to Kreacher after not watching where she was going, reckless like her father, not like Master Regulus...”
“Regulus?” Juliet questioned, recalling the name from the previous night Sirius had found her high. It was his younger brother, her uncle.
Kreacher nodded eagerly, his large eyes widening. “Master Regulus was so kind to Kreacher, he was the best son of Mistress, most loyal, and Master Sirius acts like he was a dirty no good swine...”
When Kreacher spoke of Regulus, his face took on an unexpectedly soft look of yearning and admiration. When he spoke of the way Sirius viewed his brother, hatred seeped back in and twisted his features.
Juliet paused for a moment, gathering her thoughts carefully before she spoke. She knew that Kreacher seemed to idiolize Regulus, which could explain some of the dislike he harbored towards Sirius. If she were to jump into claiming the things Sirius told her about his brother, that would make Kreacher upset and she would likely never hear more from him on the subject. A large part of her suddenly wanted so desperately to know of her Slytherin uncle. Maybe he had been the same as her, thought of as a typical Slytherin with no one if any bothering to look beyond his house.
“Regulus was my uncle, right, Kreacher?” she questioned, watching his head bob as he nodded. “Can you tell me about him?”
Kreacher eyed her cautiously, his mouth forming a tight line. “Why does Mistress Juliet want to know about Master Regulus?”
“Well,” she paused. “He was a Slytherin like me. He probably would have understood things a lot better than my dad.”
Kreacher nodded vigorously, eager to talk badly about Sirius. “Master Regulus was much better than Master, yes, he would have understood more, so smart he was, not a nasty Gryffindor like Master, proud of his bloodline and good to the very end, especially to Kreacher.”
Juliet bit her lip, waiting a beat before she asked. “I would have loved to know him. Can you tell me... how did he die?”
Kreacher opened his mouth, but before he could say a word, Hermione came up the steps, bumping into Juliet.
“Oh, I’m sorry!” Hermione exclaimed, placing a hand on Juliets arm. “Oh, happy Christmas Kreacher!”
Kreacher scowled immediately, muttering under his breath, “mudblood addresses Kreacher like he cares about her, speaking to the house elf of the most noble ancient House of Black, dirty girl...”
Hermione gave a pained smile, brushing past the two to her bedroom. Juliet cursed her timing, now Kreacher was wandering off down the hall.
“Kreacher,” she called, making the house elf pause in his steps. “Can you tell me about him tomorrow?”
Kreacher gave a jerky nod, and continued off down the hallway. Juliet sighed, and headed off to her room. At least tomorrow, she would find out more on her uncle.
As she got ready for bed, she slid the moon charm along the length of the silver chain, pondering her feelings for George. What she had hoped would be a passing crush had turned into a full blown issue for her. What was she going to do?
The charm once again heated up in her grasp, before cooling back down. She narrowed her eyes, and set the charm on her bedside table. She hadn’t asked George about it. She didn’t get the chance.
Tossing her blanket over her body and burrowing into the bed, she shut her eyes. Ginny’s soft breathing lulled her to sleep, her conflicting feelings of George tightening in her chest.

What a Shame
SUMMARY: Draco breaks up with Wrenly out of nowhere for Astoria Greengrass after they dated for two years. When she sees her opportunity to get revenge, she takes it.
PAIRINGS: Draco X fem!OC, hinted one sided Harry X fem!OC
WARNINGS: smut
I’m so bad at writing summaries, I apologize! Inspired by the song What a Shame by Leyla Blue
Tumblr media
Draco had his hands on Astoria’s waist as they walked into the Great Hall, his lips near her ear as she laughed as though he had just said the most hilarious thing in the world. It made Wrenly sick, to see the two of them so close.
It appeared Pansy shared her sentiment, as she turned to Wrenly and stuck her perfectly manicured finger down her throat in mock disgust. “How pathetic. If her laugh were anymore annoying, I swear she could be a mandrake.”
Wrenly smirked in amusement, a chuckle slipping from her lips. Draco’s head moved in her direction, his eyes meeting hers. When he saw the amusement in her eyes, he scowled, a crease appearing on his forehead. Wrenly’s smirk simply grew bigger.
“Wait, which one is she again?” Theo asked, sliding in next to Pansy. He took her hand in his, his lips brushing against her knuckles.
“They all look the same, don’t they?” murmured Wrenly, stirring her tea. “Guess I’ll never understand the thinking of a man.”
“If you could call Draco a man.” Pansy snorted, leaning against Theo as he pressed a kiss to her forehead.
Wrenly sighed in annoyance, standing from the table. “As much as I would love to continue sitting here and discussing my ex’s love life and watch the two of you be so disgustingly cute, I have to go get ready for tonight.”
She picked her tea cup off the table, walking away.
“You can’t leave with the silverware!” Pansy called after her, covering her giggles with her hand.
Wrenly ignored her, instead flipping her off as she left the Great Hall. She could feel Draco’s eyes on her as she left, and she let her finger linger in his direction for a moment before she left.
What a shame.
She brought her tea outside, sipping it as she sat on the lush green grass. It was an unusually warm spring day, and she shed her robes, leaving her in her white school blouse and plaid skirt. It was a Saturday, but she didn’t feel like picking out something special. She would safe that for later, when the party would commence. It was the second Saturday of the month, which meant the Slytherin’s were throwing their rager. All houses were welcome, the only catch was that you had to be invited by a Slytherin. There was usually a decent mixture there.
“Hello, Wrenly.”
The dark haired girl turned to see Harry Potter coming up behind her, a piece of toast in his hand. He held it out for her, and she took it with a grin.
“Thanks, Harry.”
He nodded, smiling, and sat down next to her. She munched on her toast, polishing it off along with her tea, while Harry sat with her in compatible silence.
“So, I saw Malfoy this morning,” he said awkwardly, tapping his fingers on his knee. “Looks like he’s moved on.”
Wrenly made a noise of discontent agreement. “It would appear he has. With a basic bland bitch.”
Harry laughed at her words, his green eyes crinkling at the corners. She was quiet for a moment, her brown eyes examining him. She supposed he really was handsome, with his wild hair and gorgeous smile. An idea came to her in that moment, and a wide grin cracked across her face.
“Harry, there’s a party tonight in Slytherin. Would you care to come?”
He looked taken aback for a moment, before nodding quickly. “Brilliant! That’d be brilliant.”
“Marvelous. I’ll be waiting outside for you.”
Harry nodded, grinning at her with that damn smile. She smiled back, something in her chest stirring.
Wrenly chose her outfit for that night carefully, a low cut black dress that clung to her ample curves like a second skin, lavender fishnets, and black ankle boots. Pansy did her makeup, a sultry brown eyeshadow look with mascara that made her eyelashes go on for miles. She knew she looked good, and she knew this dress was one of Draco’s favorites on her.
Wrenly entered the party with Pansy, although the girl quickly left her for Theo’s arms and his never ending supply of firewhiskey. Wrenly didn’t plan on getting drunk tonight, she didn’t need liquor in her blood to say what she wanted to say.
The same couldn’t be said for Astoria, who looked to be rather tipsy as she kept whispering something not PG13 in Draco’s ear, to his obvious annoyance.
A grin lifted her lips. What a shame.
“Wrenly!”
She turned her head, her dark curls swishing around her face, to see Harry walking towards her looking out of place in the sea of thumping music and swarming bodies.
She greeted him enthusiastically, holding him tightly in a hug. As she pulled away, she saw his eyes dart down to her cleavage before darting back up to her face, swallowing hard as he did so. She smirked knowingly, and gave him a swift kiss on the cheek.
“I’m so glad you came, Harry,” she made sure to bring him by Draco, noting the way the blond’s jaw clenched. “It means the world that you came.”
“You asked me to,” Harry said simply, smiling at her. “Of course I’d come.”
“Let’s dance!” She exclaimed loudly, pulling him towards the moving bodies.
Draco noticed, of course, and the look on his face made her absolutely ecstatic, especially when he harshly shoved Astoria away from his ear. The girl had seemed to be nibbling on it, and pouted as she was denied the action.
Wrenly had a lovely time with Harry, and the chosen one had even grown so bold as to place his hands on her hips as she grinned her hips in his direction. He played his part perfectly, even if he didn’t realize he was in the game. Draco’s eyes rarely left them, and she made sure to give him a show with the flip of her hair and the gyration of her hips in Harry’s direction. Her night got even better when Astoria had to be led to her dorm room, the girl had gotten cross faded and thrown up on her older sisters shoes.
The party soon died down, and Harry reluctantly left to go back to Gryffindor. He seemed as though he wanted to tell her something when she walked him to the door, but instead gave her a tight hug, and left. She didn’t dwell on it. Her mind was somewhere in the boys dormitory where the stand alone room for prefects were.
It was four in the morning. She had no liquor in her system to justify her decision, but she climbed the stairs anyways, soon finding herself outside of the smooth oak wood with an emerald green P on the outside.
Wrenly rapped her knuckles against the door harshly, instantly regretting her decision. What the fuck was she doing here?
Draco opened the door, looking unsurprised to see her there. He leaned against the doorframe, raking his eyes up and down her body.
“That was quite a show you put on there with Potter.” he finally spoke, his words hard and his tone cold.
Wrenly shrugged in indifference. She knew what she had been doing.
“But your eyes never left me, couldn’t help but notice.”
Again, she shrugged. What was there to say? She had no idea what she was doing there.
He stepped back, motioning towards the inside of his room. “Come on, then.”
She stepped inside, and he shut the door behind him. She half expected to see Astoria lounging on his bed, perhaps still sloppy drunk like she had been before.
“I’m surprised your little toy isn’t here with you.” she kept her tone even, neutral. But she couldn’t help the smirk that lifted her lips as Draco tensed, his eyes flashing in annoyance.
“I don’t need her to throw up in my bed.”
“Little girl can’t handle her liquor,” she taunted, walking over to the edge of his bed. She sat down, crossing her legs as looked at Draco. “Coulda been with me instead of what’s-her-fucking-name.”
His jaw clenched, and she took it a step further.
“What a shame, baby, what a shame,” she tsked, glancing down at her nails. “Had a winning here but you threw away the game.”
A frustrated growl left Draco’s throat, and before she could react, he charged at her. He pushed her down on his bed, his hands roaming her body. He pulled down her dress, revealing her chest, and he grabbed at her tits harshly through her lace bra. She moaned at the contact, her nipples pebbling and her core becoming wet.
“You’ve gotten mouthy without me to keep you in line,” Draco muttered, his lips pressing against her neck. “I’ll have to fix that.”
He slid her dress up, exposing her already damp thong and her fishnets. He looked up at her, an amused smirk on his lips. “You dirty whore.”
He pulled down her panties and fishnets, spreading her legs apart. Her stomach clenched in anticipation, it had been far too long without him touching her. Maybe that was why she came tonight.
He slid a finger inside her hole, making her breath hitch. He slowly slide another finger in, and as his pace continued slow and steady, he leaned his head down, and started to lick at her clit. She threw her head back against the bed, parting her lips at the sensation.
He hummed against her, beginning to suck at her clit at the same time he licked it. She felt breathless, her eyes twisted shut, and as he slid a third finger in, she felt a knot slowly beginning in her stomach.
His tongue began making circular motions around her clit, all the while his fingers continue pumping in and out of her, making her eyes flutter shut again as a string of moans left her mouth. She resisted the urge to tangle her fingers in his hair, instead she clenched the bedsheets.
His tongue pressed harder against her clit, as his lips sucked harshly on her. He added another finger, his mouth still working on her sensitive skin. The knot in her stomach grew tighter, and as a string of moans left her mouth, she knew she was close to coming.
Draco knew this as well, and he lifted his mouth from her, causing her to whimper at the lack of contact. “You better not come until I say you can. Beg me, whore.”
“Fuck,” she gasped out as his fingers curled inside her, hitting a new sensitive spot that sent stars to her eyes. “Please, please daddy, please let me come.”
He smirked. “Not good enough.”
His mouth once again pressed to her clit, sucking harshly, and she cursed as she felt the knot in her stomach grow taught. She was so close.
“Please, please daddy, let me come,” her words came out in a gasp, and her thighs began to shake. “Please let me come.”
Draco lifted his head for a brief moment. “Only because you asked so nicely.”
As his mouth returned to her clit, and his fingers continued their movements, the knot broke, and she came with a loud moan, grinding her hips against Draco’s fingers as she rode out her high.
Their eyes met, and Draco slid his fingers in his mouth, not breaking contact as he sucked himself clean of her. When he was satisfied, he reached for his pants, hurrying to undone the belt, and she sat up.
His brow furrowed, and he gave her an odd look. “What are you doing-“
“Gave you a million chances,” she was still somewhat breathless from her orgasm, and she stood unsteadily, pulling her pants up and giving her dress. “You don’t get no more. I can’t wait forever. I’m getting bored.”
“Are you kidding me?” Draco exclaimed, glaring furiously at her. “You’re just going to leave after I got you off?”
She shrugged, indifferent. “I guess the only thing that’s left to say is... what a shame.”
Wrenly brushed past him then, ignoring his shouted protests as she exited his room. A smirk crossed her lips, and she felt like patting herself on the back.
Once back in her dorm, her dress discarded and her pajamas on, she lay under her covers staring at the top of her four poster bed. She had thought she would feel empowered, and on some level she did. But she also felt empty, hollow.
What a shame.

silver tongue // part two
SUMMARY: charlie weasley was never the type to fall in love. his main focus has always been dragons. by the time he realizes he’s in love, it may be too late.
PAIRINGS: charlie weasley x fem!OC
WARNINGS: smut, and mentions of gore/injury.
well, here’s the final part to charlie’s story! i may write an epilogue of sorts in the future. and i may use luminita in a different story, i like her character! anyways, hope you all enjoy.
Tumblr media
charlie and luminita fell into step with the order and the weasley family. charlie spent time catching up with his family and conversing with arthur on the foreign wizards they had gathered. luminita spent a fair amount of time with kingsley, who had taken a great interest in the girl. he said she was a great asset and a natural fighter, and she was assigned as a watch guard for the burrow while they were there.
luminita was surprisingly comfortable at the burrow. it made her realize where charlie got his decorating skills from; his shack in romania was filled with warm tones of mismatched fabrics and designs. it had always drove her crazy, she preferred a set tone and color palette. but now she knew charlie was just trying to have a piece of the burrow with him while he was with the dragons.
the day of the wedding, she was stationed to stand guard outside of the tent the ceremony was being held in. another wizard and witch, remus and tonks respectively, stood guard with her.
luminita had gotten to know the two fairly well, remus was a werewolf and he had soothed a lot of the concerns she had over her injuries. the only thing she had experienced was a likening towards rare meat, and restlessness during the full moon. tonks was a delightful metamorphmagus, and a strong willed fighter like her. tonks had suggested she would make a brilliant auror, but luminita assured her that her heart belonged to the dragons and romania.
tonks was the person who had given her a dress for the wedding, a silver cap sleeved gown that clung to her chest and torso, before flowing weightlessly to her feet. her wild thick hair was twisted up in a bun, showcasing the thin dragon scale necklace around her neck. she rarely had a chance to dress up, and she enjoyed it in spite of herself.
“it’s a beautiful day for a wedding,” tonks commented brightly, twirling her wand in her hands. “not too warm, not too windy.”
“thank you for the weather update.” remus smirked playfully at the purple haired witch, nudging her shoulder.
tonks glared at remus, with no real malice. luminita laughed, their banter heartwarming and yet painful at the same time.
“so how long have you and charlie been an item?” tonks asked luminita, winking at the girl whose eyes had widened at the assumption.
“oh, no, we aren’t together,” she let out a humorless laugh. “we’re both too focused on our work. he’s always said the dragons are enough for him, he can’t entertain a relationship while there are so many undiscovered dragons.”
tonks shared a look with remus, their expressions gentle. “sometimes you just need to convince a man otherwise. even if they’re stubborn.”
luminita smiled politely, her insides churning. it was a nice sentiment, but it wasn’t like that with charlie. she knew long before her feelings for him grew that he wasn’t interested in any relationship with anyone. she was just foolish enough to let herself be captivated by charming grin and muscular biceps, his infectious laugh and extraordinary personality. she had never met someone quite like him.
spending time around his family for the past few days, she was able to see where it had all stemmed from.
before long, the ceremony had conceded and music began blasting from the speakers within. laughter and the clinking of silverware echoed outside, and luminita couldn’t help but peek inside to take a look.
“oh, you can go on inside,” tonks waved towards the tent, her eyes flicking over to remus. “we can take it from here.”
luminia hesitated, but at their reassurances, she slipped inside the tent.
she had never seen so many redheads in one place. charlie had been the first and only redhead she had met, and she found it a bit jarring to suddenly be surrounded by them. she sought him out now, a smile appearing on her face when she finally caught sight of him walking towards her.
“lumi,” he greeted, giving her a hug. he pulled away, his hands still on her arms, his eyes raking over her body. “you look wonderful.”
she laughed, a blush coating her cheeks. “well thanks. you don’t look half bad yourself, i almost don’t recognize you without the layer of ash on your face.”
charlie laughed loudly, the corners of his eyes crinkling. “thanks, i think!”
they walked over to the drinks, each taking a glass of fire whiskey. a few of charlie’s relatives came over to talk with him
about his work with the dragons, and a few of them asked if luminita was his girlfriend. charlie would quickly shake his head, his cheeks would flush, and he would deny it. luminita would joke and say she had much higher standards, even if the words burned her mouth on their way out.
“would you fancy a dance?” charlie asked suddenly, as they had finished off their drinks.
luminita nodded, her lips turning up as she let herself be led away to throng of people twirling to the music.
she began swaying to the music, charlie’s large hands splayed out on her hips. she had her hands on his shoulders, and they moved fluidly together to the music.
“your family is really nice,” she told him, looking into his brown eyes. “fred and george have a nice amount of spunk in them. and ginny is a force to be reckoned with. she kind of reminds me of me when i was her age.”
charlie nodded in agreement. “the twins have really made something for themselves. i’m so proud of them. ginny, too.”
“oh, charles, you’ve gone soft of us,” fred appeared next to them, twirling a gorgeous blond as he passed.
“really, i think we may swoon.” george finished, a similar girl in his arms as they danced together.
“just wait until after this wedding, i’ll have the both of you in a headlock before you can say mum.” charlie threatened, giving the two of them a look.
“we’ll be waiting!” the twins had identical grins, and they led the dance floor, disappearing with the veelas.
charlie grinned, shaking his head, and he twirled luminita in a circle. she felt wild, carefree. the feeling of charlie’s warm hands on her hips and the feeling of his thick muscles under her hands made her feel invincible. they never got the opportunity to be intimate like this, and all they were doing was dancing.
maybe it was the rush of euphoria she received from being so close with him, his hands on her hips, his eyes watching her every move. or maybe it was the feel that weddings had, like love was an attainable thing for all to grasp. whatever it was, when the music switched to a slow song, she had to finally put her feelings for the burly boy out in the open so there were no more second guesses.
“charlie,” luminita bit her lip, their movements slowing. “i know how you feel about relationships. i know we’re in a war. i know we can die at any moment... and that’s why i need to just say this and be done.”
“luminita...”
“i care for you, charlie weasley. a lot. a damn lot, and who knows? maybe i love you. and perhaps it’s wishful thinking, but i think you like me too.”
she could feel him tense under her hands as her words spilled out in an honest confession. they paused in their dancing, and she waited with bated breath to hear his reply.
as charlie opened his mouth, everyone’s attention was suddenly turned to the opening of the tent, where a silver lynx landed a few feet away from charlie and luminita. she quickly reached under her dress for her wand that was strapped to her calf, holding it tightly in anticipation.
the patronus’ mouth opened wide, and it spoke in the loud, deep, slow voice of kingsley shacklebolt.
“the ministry has fallen. scrimgeour is dead. they are coming.”
everything was silent for a moment, most of the guests were still turned towards the remaining vapors of the patronus. then somebody screamed.
guests started running in all directions, many were disapperating. luminita swore, realizing the enchantments around the burrow had broken.
the death eaters came rather quickly. they were masked and cloaked, firing spells into the crowd of people.
luminita began dueling, her mouth set in a determined line. she was vaguely aware of charlie fighting at her side, firing off a few ‘protego’ as they fought together.
then luminita saw ginny, who appeared as though she was too busy searching for someone rather than looking out for her back. she was going to get herself killed.
“charlie,” she spat out of the corner of her mouth, firing a leg locking curse at one of the cloned figures. “where is your families safe house?”
“my aunt muriels,” charlie responded under his breath, stunning a death eater. “go there!”
“no chance in hell!”
she sprinted across the dance floor, kicking her heels off in the process. she dodged spellwork, twisting around to fire back as she ran.
“protego!” she shouted, blocking a curse that very nearly hit ginny. “ginerva! get a hold of yourself!”
“harry left,” ginny told her, her eyes wild. “i didn’t get to say goodbye.”
“you’ll see him again,” she panted, gathering the girl behind her. “where’s your wand.”
“i don’t know, i don’t know, i think it’s in the burrow.”
luminita cursed, scanning the crowd as spells continued blasting around them. molly weasley looked panic stricken, as she fired off spells at the death eaters, her eyes darting around in a worried haste. aunt muriel was next to her, looking as though she were going to hyperventilate.
she was looking for ginny.
“molly!” she yelled, grabbing ginnys arm as the quickly maneuvered through the crowd.
molly looked up at her, relief sagging in her features as she saw ginny beside her. luminita pushed ginny into her mother’s arms, and they clung to each other.
“go to the safe house, we’ll take care of things from here.”
molly nodded, and turned on her heel. with a crack, they disappeared.
luminita turned back to the crowd, and joined forces with remus and tonks, the three of them were soon joined by charlie. charlie and luminita fought back to back, alongside the other two.
it appeared the death eaters were only there for harry potter. once they realized he was no longer there, due to one of them shouting it in disappointment, they left in a cloud of black smoke.
the beautifully decorated tent was destroyed, the flowers trampled and decorations ripped, platters of food and drink strewn around the floor. a few areas had been set on fire and put out, the smoldering remains letting off plumes of black smoke.
“is anyone hurt?” arthur called out tersely, a deep looking ash on his forearm.
there were a few murmurings through the crowd, but no one appeared to be gravely injured.
“right, then, let’s clean up and then we can recoup.”
it didn’t take very long to get the place cleaned up, most of it just needed to be banished away as it was damaged beyond repair. bill expressed regret over the flowers being destroyed; fleur had wanted to save a few in a photo album of their day. but they were all wrecked, stomped into the ground.
the order members who had attended the wedding all apparated to muriels cottage, crammed into the small living room as they waited for kingsley to appear. he came at half past nine, looking worn and torn.
“was harry able to leave?” he asked, standing in front of the order members.
arthur nodded. “he, ron, and hermione left. no one was able to get them.”
“that’s good.”
they began discussing further plans for the order, and repairing the wards that had been broken at the burrow. they would all head back tomorrow morning to redo he magical charms, and resume their normal schedules.
as the order members aside from the weasleys and luminita began to file out, kingsley called to her and charlie.
“you two are heading back to romania tomorrow, right?”
charlie nodded tensely. “that’s the plan.”
kingsley nodded slowly, looking over at luminita. she forced herself to remain strong under his intimidating gaze.
“luminita, if you’re willing, i would like for you to stay behind. you’re an excellent fighter, and we could really use your help.”
she faltered, unsure of what to say. she hadn’t been expecting him to say that.
“no,” charlie answered, shaking his head. “no, she comes home with me.”
“charlie, think of what’s best for the order,” kingsley said firmly, turning his gaze on the man. “if she refuses, then that’s fine. but if she’s willing to help the order, that’s her decision to make.”
“im not leaving her here unprotected,” charlie’s voice was bordering on hysterical now. “miles away from where i could help her. where i go, she goes.”
the two men stared at each other, silence echoing loudly around them. luminita felt her heart thud at the way charlie was talking about her, and she very nearly said no. but he said she would be a great asset, and if she would be more helpful here... she couldn’t say no, especially not after the death eaters she encountered tonight. fighting like that... it gave a thrill that reminded her of trying to bond with a dragon. and if she could help innocent people and fight against voldemort hands on, well, she wouldn’t say no.
charlie looked at her, and his shoulders sagged as he recognized her expression.
“please, lumi,” his voice was low and pleading. “don’t stay. come home with me.”
she swallowed hard, and looked over to kingsley. she gave the man a firm nod, straightening her shoulders. “i’ll stay.”
charlie cursed, and stormed out of the room. the front door slammed behind him, and luminita shut her eyes briefly.
“tomorrow we’ll meet at the burrow and discuss your role,” kingsley held out his hand, and they shook firmly. “i have an assignment in mind for you already.”
kingsley left then, biding a goodnight to the rest of the weasleys. luminita took a steadying breath, and slipped outside. the grass was cool against her bare feet, and the wind was balmy against her skin.
charlie stood leaning against a tree a few yards away from the house, staring out at the vast forest that expanded beyond muriels cottage. his sleeves were rolled up, and the ends of his dragon tattoo poked out from his right bicep. her heart ached as she walked towards him.
“hey,” she said softly, crossing her arms as she stopped next to him. “can we talk?”
“how could you just decide that?” he turned to her, his words hard and fast as they came from his mouth. “how could you just decide to leave me and stay here?”
“charlie, you know i won’t back down from a fight. you know i’m not the type of person to run and hide. if there’s a chance i can be more helpful here then in romania, i have to do it.”
“even if that means leaving the dragons? leaving me? i thought you lov-“ and he cut himself short, the words snipped shut as soon as he thought them.
she shut her eyes, taking another steadying breath against the thud of her heart. “don’t do that.”
“do what? at the wedding, you said- you said you loved me. how can you just drop that on me and then just leave me?”
“are you kidding me? it doesn’t even matter charlie! you don’t feel the same way about me! the dragons will always come first!”
“fuck the dragons!” charlie roared, and he took hold of her shoulders. “i love you, damnit, and i can’t lose you!”
he crashed his lips against hers, and she lost her hands in his wavy hair. she opened her mouth, tongue and teeth clashing against each other. his deliciously muscular body pressed against hers, fulfilling many a fantasy she had ever since she saw him with his shirt off three years ago. his hands cupped her cheeks, pressing her harder against him.
every single one of her nerve endings were on fire as his hands ghosted down to her hips, gripping them tightly before he tapped her thighs, signaling for her to jump. she did, wrapping her legs around his waist as he turned around, pressing her against the tree.
as his lips trailed down her neck, nipping ravenously at her skin, she could feel his hardness pressing against her core. hardness that she caused. it sparked a fire deep in her chest, and she moaned loudly as he ground her hips into hers.
he looked up at her, his eyes dark. “do you want this?”
she nodded, her eyes fluttering at the feel of his body pressed against hers. “i’ve wanted this for years, charlie.”
at her admission, he pulled up her dress, and pushed aside her panties, slipping a finger into her wetness. her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she gripped at his hair as he plunged his fingers deep in her pussy. his thumb rubbed circles on her sensitive clit, while his two fingers thrusted in and out in a fast pace.
“charlie,” his name fell from her lips among a string of moans, his hair still gripped in her fists.
“say my name,” charlie growled, biting down harshly on her neck. “say my goddamn name.”
“charlie!”
she could feel the knot in her stomach building, and just as it was about to unravel, his fingers left her heat. her unfocused eyes attempted to look at him in annoyance, wondering why he stopped, when his full length suddenly slammed into her with a force that brought tears to her eyes.
“you like it rough, don’t you slut,” he murmured, groaning as he rolled his hips against hers. “taking me so well.”
she threw her head back in both pain and pleasure as his cock pounded into her, hitting deep inside her as he continued sucking on
her neck. the pain subsided, and she nearly saw stars as he brought a hand down to rub circles on her clit.
the knot in her stomach returned, and with it came a primal need to mark charlie as hers. she lifted her head, bending towards his neck and searching for his soft spot. as he moaned when her tongue licked over a spot near the base of his throat, she bit down harshly, drawing blood that she quickly licked up, moving to suck on the other side of his neck.
“did you just bite me?” charlie gasped out, his hips flush against hers.
she tilted her head back, meetings his eyes as he continued slamming into her. “yeah, i did.”
“do it again.” he groaned darkly, moving his head back to expose the other side of his neck.
she did as he asked, sinking her teeth once more into the taught skin of his neck. she supposed the need to bite him and mark him as hers came from the werewolf scars, but she hadn’t expected charlie to be so open to it.
the knot in her stomach tightened, and she moaned as the pressure built. charlie’s thrusts became sloppy, and she knew he was close too.
“gonna cum,” he grunted, slamming his hips into hers. “fill you up like the slut you are.”
his words drove them both over the edge, and with one final thrust he came inside her, and she released on his dick. his hips stilled, still flush against hers, and he buried his head against her neck. she rested her head on top of his, her arms resting limply around his neck.
“so,” she said after a moment, a pleased smirk on her lips. “i’m a slut?”
charlie looked up immediately, his face flushing maroon. “oh, erm, i didn’t mean-“
“don’t take it back!” she exclaimed, a laugh falling from her lips. “it’s hot. dirty. didn’t expect that from you.”
charlie gave an exasperated sigh, shaking his head. he pulled out of her, setting her down gingerly. her legs felt like jello, and she held onto his shoulders to steady herself.
“was it too much for you?” he teased her, his eyes dark.
she swatted at his arm, forcing herself to stand on her own. “in your dreams, weasley.”
“oh trust me, this will be the center of my dreams for years to come.”
she rolled her eyes, pulling her panties back up. “if only you would have done this sooner.”
charlie nodded slowly. “if only... are you really going to stay?”
“i have to, charlie. if it’s in the best interest of the order, then-“
“forget the order,” he stated firmly, placing a hand on her hip. “what is best for you?”
she paused. “charlie. i wouldn’t be able to live with myself if i left when i could have helped people. not after what i saw today.”
“i suppose i knew that,” he sighed ruefully. “that’s just who you are. it’s why i love you.”
“so you do love me?”
he gave her a look. “i don’t just tell people i love them if i don’t mean it. of course i do.”
she nodded. “i love you too.”
she held out her hand, and he grasped it tightly. his large one engulfed her small
one in warmth, and they walked hand in hand back to the cottage. they didn’t specify a label on each other, but she didn’t feel they needed to. they loved each other. that was all they needed.
the next day, luminita received her first assignment from kingsley. charlie prepared to leave for romania. they spent their last night together in his childhood bedroom, familiarizing each other’s bodies in the tangle of his sheets.
but he had to leave, and she had to stay.
kingsley kept her busy, and she found she didn’t have much time to dwell on how much she missed charlie. it stayed with her, like a thorn in her side, but most nights she was so exhausted she fell into a dreamless sleep, only to wake up the next morning early to get a start on her duties.
she stayed with the weasleys in the burrow, and grew quite close with molly and the twins. she practiced dueling with the boys on her rare days off, which they greatly enjoyed.
but of course, all good things must come to an end, and when ginny returned home for easter break, ron was found traveling with harry potter and hermione granger. the trio got away, but the weasleys shot to the top of the death eaters most wanted list. they were forced into hiding, and luminita took on a heavier work load as the death eaters became more determined to destroy the supporters of harry potter.
eventually, she was stationed in hogsmeade, which meant that when the final battle began, she was one of the first to join.
“it’s unfortunate you’re seeing hogwarts in shambles as your first impression,” george called to her, as he hexed a death eater. “it’s bloody amazing in its full glory.”
“has to be, though,” fred chimed in, dodging a bat bogey hex. “it’s where we got our start! the infamous weasley twins!”
“load of braggarts, you lot!” chided luminita, sending a stunner straight to the chest of a burly death eater.
the three worked together, battling the emerging death eaters. at some point in the chaos, george split away from the two, and they were joined by percy, the weasley who had blacklisted his family.
“i was a fool, fred,” percy shouted hoarsely, shooting spells at the four hooded and masked death eaters that had them back into a corner. “an utter fool!”
“and a right prat!” added fred, ducking as a green spell whizzed by his ear.
luminita became separated from the two as the death eater split them apart, two took on her while the other two kept at the weasleys. she was forced to only cast shielding spells, as she was unable to do much else with the both of them constantly firing at her. but then, by sheer luck, she found an opening.
“ventura!” she shouted, jabbing her wand directly at the two.
a hurricane swirled out of her wand, gathering the two death eaters into its depths. they flung around the room, hitting the ceiling with a sickening crack before falling to the floor, their thick blood spilling out onto the floor.
she shouted the counter curse, and the hurricane disappeared.
“nice one, lumi!” fred shouted in approval.
jets of light flew in every direction, and luminita rushed forward to help the two weasleys; out of the corner of her vision, she saw harry, ron, and hermione emerge from the hallway.
one of the death eaters hoods slipped, revealing his high forehead and streaked hair.
“hello, minister!” bellowed percy, sending a neat jinx to thicknesse who dropped his wand and clawed at his rom in discomfort. “did i mention i’m resigning?”
“you’re joking, perce!” shouted fred with glee, as the death eater he was battling collapsed under the weight of four separate stunning spells. “you actually are joking, perce.. i haven’t heard you joke since you were-“
luminita felt the electric pull of the air, and her instincts kicked in. she reached out, grabbing hold of fred, just as the air around them exploded.
they flung through the air, and luminita held fred close to her chest with her wand gripped tightly in her hand, protecting his head with her arms. the yells and screams of their companions echoed around them, and the cold air that hit let her know the wall of the castle had been blasted away.
they landed with a crash, her head cracking against the floor of the castle, her leg bending the wrong way with a throbbing pain. fred slammed painfully against her chest, but she didn’t release her hold on him.
then the world resolved itself into pain and semi darkness; they were half buried in the wreckage of the corridor.
she looked down at fred, who had a dazed expression in his face. there was a gash across his forehead, dripping thick blood in his eyes.
“lumi, you have to let go of me so we can get up,” fred groaned, and she released his hold on him. “think you may have just saved my life.”
“that was the hope.” the words came out funny, and her head exploded in black stars. she wasn’t sure that the words had came out at all. there was something thick and sticky coating the back of her head, and when she reached her hand back to gingerly touch it, moaning at the pain, her hand came back slick with blood.
“percy! ron! help me get her out of here!”
she was vaguely aware of someone jostling her body out of the rubble as the pain coalesced into a blinding blackness of stars, and she faded away.
the next time she opened her eyes, she was staring at the twinkling ceiling of the great hall. she felt as though her head was filled with foam, and her leg had a stabbing pain reverberating through her shin.
“lumi?”
her eyes fluttered over to the worried face of charlie weasley, and her heart swelled. “charlie.”
he carefully gathered her in his strong arms, holding her against his chest. “i told you to be safe.”
she wrapped her arms around him, not fully believing he was there.
“luminita. never thought i’d see the day you weren’t tossing me a witty comment.”
she lifted her head off charlie’s chest to see billius standing near them, and a grin cracked across her face.
“oh, shut it,” she scoffed. “go suck on a dragon scale.”
“that’s my girl,” billius grinned, before pausing thoughtfully. “guess i probably shouldn’t say that. you’re charlie’s girl now.”
a warmth filled her chest as his words processed, and her head became less foamy. “yeah. i am.”
“you hit your head really hard and broke your leg,” charlie informed her, keeping her in his arms. “maria had to regrow the back of your skull, and a few of your leg bones. you’re still healing.”
“maria’s here?”
“all of our romanian allies are here. we got here just after the battle ended.”
she could hear the frustration in his voice. she knew it must have killed him to get here late and then find that she was injured. “you’re here now. that’s what matters.”
they caught up while her skull regrew, and the other weasleys came by as well. fred thanked her again for saving him, and molly nearly cried as she thanked her for saving her son. she waved them off, not caring for the attention.
before long, the battle resumed, and charlie had to leave her to help in the fight. she tried her best to get up against his orders, but her vision went blurry and her leg sent shooting pains through her body. so, she was forced to sit there while harry potter was declared dead. the war raged on.
then, harry potter was alive again. the war began turning for the better, and it seemed that they would win. the residents of hogsmeade joined in, and before long, harry had killed voldemort.
the war was over.
charlie came back to her immediately, taking her in his arms and holding her tightly. she wrapped her arms around his torso as his hands tangled in her hair, and he peppered her face with kisses.
“i love you, luminita,” he declared, cupping her cheeks in his hands. “marry me.”
“marry you?” she gaped at him, staring up at his heavily freckled face.
a grin broke out across his face. “are you deaf? i said marry me, damnit!”
her heart swelled with love, and she nodded fast, her head spinning from the movement. “charlie weasley, of course i’ll marry you.”
he kissed her passionately, lifting her in his arms. everything was right in her world.
the sun rose steadily over hogwarts as they celebrated, and mourned over the ones they had lost. luminita was saddened to hear that tonks and remus had died, she would never forget their kindness. she wished she was able to tel tonks that charlie had proposed, the delightful woman would been ecstatic to hear the news.
they celebrated, they mourned. clean up on the castle would begin tomorrow, but for now, everyone was invited to stay in the dorms or go home.
charlie and luminita decided to go back to the burrow with their family. they would head back to romania after the shock of the battle wore off, but for now, charlie needed to be with his family. luminita knew that.
as she lay in charlie’s arms that night in his childhood bedroom, she smiled genuinely. she supposed she had bonded with a dragon after all.

silver tongue //part one
SUMMARY: charlie weasley was never the type to fall in love. his main focus has always been dragons. by the time he realizes he’s in love, it may be too late.
PAIRINGS: charlie weasley X fem!OC
i have one more part planned for this story. it’s yet another one that just begged to be written. hopefully you all enjoy it!
Tumblr media
“weasley!” luminita stormed over to the red haired boy, who looked up at her with a panic stricken gaze. “would you like to tell me why maria just informed everyone that you were taking an indefinite hiatus?”
charlie weasley gave a reassuring pat to the month old dragon he had been tending to, before crossing the few feet left between him and lumi. she roughly shoved his shoulders, her mouth twisted in a furious glare.
“lumi, if you’ll just listen to me-“
“listen to what?! what reason could you possibly give me that makes it okay that you’re leaving us!”
her chest was heaving, and although she stood a head shorter then the tall muscular boy before her, she stood rather intimidating in front of him. he held up his hands in surrender, backing down in a similar way they had to do with angry dragons.
“i have a reason, if you would just let me explain... come to mine after work, alright?”
luminita nodded firmly, turning on her heel and storming back off towards her section of dragons. charlie watched her for a moment, a smile breaking across his face. his heart swelled in adoration for the romanian firecracker that he had gotten the pleasure of knowing during his years as dragon training.
a shot of fire just barely missed his head. charlie turned to see his dragon staring at his with its wide ember eyes, nodding its head towards its breakfast.
“okay, okay,” charlie grabbed the bucket, walking back over towards the baby horntail. “say no more.”
luminita and charlie had met while training at the romanian academy for dragon tamers. she was immediately drawn to the stocky redhead, who was so thoroughly covered in freckles that he appeared tan. he had been drawn to the honey haired girl with a loud voice that reminded him of home. she was a boisterous and adventurous student, and he was an ambitious and knowledgeable one.
they had quickly found they were the perfect pair when studying dragons, and that translated to their work on the field. they along with a handful of others had quickly rose to the top of the romanian dragon tamers, and when the others gave charlie a hard time for being british, luminita was the first one to defend him. they always had each other’s back.
which was why his sudden call for hiatus stung her so badly. he hadn’t ever mentioned to her that he was going to be leaving, not even a hint. charlie weasley was a man of dragons, nothing more in his life brought him more to joy. luminita was well aware of that. so it made no sense as to why he was suddenly giving it all up. it infuriated her.
charlie had left his door unlocked after work, and was sitting in his sparse living room when luminita walked in. she had changed out of her work clothing, she now wore a flattering pair of jeans and a artfully torn sweater that exposed bits of her shoulder, chest, and torso. her hair was stilled pulled back in a messy bun.
he admired her beauty in silence. he suspected she harbored feelings for him, but he wasn’t sure he felt the same about her. besides, who had time for dating when there were so many dragons to be discovered? their work work was far too hands on to ever even entertain the idea of a relationship.
his other teammates always made fun of him for that. billius, a man ten years older than charlie who he counted as his second closest friend next to luminita, gave him a hard time about his values. ‘if a beauty like luminita were interested in me, i think i may abandon the dragons altogether if she asked me. but lumi would never ask that of you or want you to. why don’t you give it a try?’
charlie always had the same answer. ‘the dragons need my full attention.’
luminita had never explicitly expressed her interest in him either. it was through the way he was the first she sought out after a particularly rough rendezvous rescuing dragons from the black market, the way she always brought a lunch for him because he never bothered, the way she smiled at him like he was only person in the world, that gave her affections away.
“well?” luminita strode into the room, sitting on the edge of his worn thrifted couch. “what on earth is making you give up the dragons?”
charlie stood, rubbing a hand across his face. he began pacing in front of the fireplace, the flames glinting across the silver scars that covered his arms from his numerous burns. to his chagrin, luminita somehow never managed to get burned by the dragons. it was something he always gave her shit for.
“you obviously know my family is in britain.”
“no shit.”
“well, you know voldemort is growing his army again.”
luminita nodded solemnly. charlie had confided in her many times of his fears that his family would be hurt while he was in romania. but that had never prompted him to leave before. did that mean he was leaving now?
“my family is part of an organization to take down his army of death eaters. i’ve been asked to recruit foreign members, and that means i’ll be on voldemort’s hit list when word gets back to him.”
“so you’re leaving?”
“no, i’m staying in romania to recruit members for the order my family is part of. but i need to go into hiding, because i’ll be targeted by death eaters.”
luminita was quiet. when she spoke again, her voice was tense and firm.
“i guess you have your first recruitment then. where do i sign?”
charlie supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised. luminita was a fighter. it was part of why he was so drawn to her. but the thought of luminita getting hurt flashed across his mind, the thought horrifying him. he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if she got hurt or worse, killed, because he recruited her for the order. in his mind, her death or injury would be his fault.
“luminita, do you understand what you’ll be doing? voldemort is dangerous, he’s awful, and being part of the order puts a target on your back for him and his ruthless followers.”
“charlie, have i ever told you what happened to my parents?”
charlie paused. he had been expecting her to fight back and maybe accuse him of not thinking she was strong enough, but he hadn’t expected her voice to be small and her face to look worn. she had never mentioned her parents before either, and he never thought to bring it up. he shook his head.
“my parents were very prominent political figures. they wanted our aurors to help in the fight against voldemort, and they were beginning to gather a group of willing participants. voldemort caught wind, and had them killed.”
she said the words as though she had recited them a thousand times, mechanical. yet it was the first charlie had ever heard her speak of them.
“i’m sorry.”
luminita waved off his condolences. “point is, i know the risk. i know how things can go. but i’m a damn good dueler, and a damn good fighter. voldemort needs to be dead.”
charlie nodded solemnly. the thought of her hurt or dead scared him, but he had known luminita long enough that he knew she wouldn’t stand aside once she was given the chance to fight. his girl was a fighter.
“well, there isn’t anything you need to sign,” charlie teased, stopping in front of her and looking down into her pale green eyes. “you’re in.”
luminita stared back at him, her expression softening as their eyes locked. charlie looked away, turning to continue his pacing in front of the fireplace. luminita watched him from her perch on the arm of his couch, her head tilted to the side.
“you’re worried about your family.” she said it as a statement, watching his movements.
charlie nodded. “course. i’m worried for them, and now that you’re in... i’m worried for you.”
luminita snorted, standing up and shaking her head. “thought you knew me better, weasley. i can hold my own.”
“doesn’t mean i like the thought of you fighting.”
“well, look at it this way. even if i do die, the dragons will always be there.”
the words were bitter as they burned from her mouth, and charlie felt the sting as they fell out.
“that’s really not fair-“
“so when will you be back at work?”
she had her arms crossed, a look of forced nonchalance on her face. she eyed him casually, occasionally glancing down at his calloused fingers that were tapping against the back of his armchair.
“whenever the war is over, i reckon. for now i’m staying here in romania, but if the order calls then i’ll leave. i’ll always come back though. this is home.”
she shook her head, laughing humorlessly. “you could never leave the dragons.”
“i don’t think you would ever ask me to.”
she looked up at him again, her eyes dark. “you’re right. i wouldn’t.”
charlie felt something twist in his chest then, at the way her words sounded as they came from her pretty mouth in a sad declaration. he opened his mouth, his face apologetic, but she again waved him off.
“i have an early shift tomorrow,” she gave him a playful look, the solemn mood forgotten. “some of us still have to risk their pretty skin to the flames.”
charlie laughed, glad the mood was back to normal. “you’ve never even been burned! you still have your pretty skin!”
“so you think i have pretty skin?” she flashed a grin, raising her eyebrows.
“the prettiest.”
she laughed, shaking her head. she moved to the door, charlie following close behind. as she placed her hand on the door, she paused, her fingers gripping the worn handle tightly.
“i’m going to miss seeing you at work everyday.”
“we’ll still see each other.”
she laughed again, sadly. “it’s not the same. see you later, weasley.”
she left then, the door shutting behind her with a resounding click.
the following months passed by rather quickly. luminita helped recruit with him, as she had a fair amount of connections he didn’t. she also began helping him duel, to his surprise she was an excellent dueler. her steps were fluid and unpredictable, much like a dragon. charlie learned a lot from her. before long, a year had passed.
they had gathered a fair amount of allies. luminita had been a great asset to charlie and the order, with the previous connections her parents had left behind, she was able to get many behind them quite quickly. yet as voldemort’s reign waged on, things became dangerous even in romania.
voldemort had managed to get the alliance of most of the vampires, and all but a handful of werewolves. they were brutal and ruthless, and attacked their members who were more outspoken. as charlie was kept in hiding, luminita became a prime target for them.
charlie worried every day for her. but at least, she always came back.
the war raged on. in romania, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it was in britain. it was only so rough for the outspoken order members because they were outnumbered by the covens of vampires and packs of werewolves. months passed by, and soon bill and fleur’s wedding at the burrow was approaching.
charlie and billius were discussing plans for the allies while charlie would be in britain. he planned to be gone for only a week, possibly less depending on how things were while he was there. he would be traveling alone, and luminita and billius were going to watch over things here.
“lumi is tough as nails, charlie,” billius shook his head, a laugh slipping out as charlie voiced his worries on being gone. “if you’re so worried about her and care so much, why haven’t you just asked her ass out yet?”
charlie rolled his eyes, rolling his sleeves up as he leaned back in his chair. “it’s not like that. not sure if you’re aware, but some people actually care about others just because they’re good people.”
“sounds like pussy shit to me.”
charlie gave him a look as the other man took a drink of firewhiskey, a smirk on the mans grubby face.
the door to charlie’s shack slammed open. luminita limped through, stumbling and tripping onto the wood floor. her torso, or maybe her back, was soaked and her hands were slick with blood.
charlie rose quickly before she had the chance to ask for help. he scooped her up gently, wincing when she moaned in pain.
“lay her on the table,” billius instructed, sweeping everything off the circle table with a wave of his wand. “i’ll get the kit.”
every member carried a magical first aid knapsack with them. one of their allies, maria, was an excellent healer. she had hand picked the best supplies to have on hand.
“lumi,” charlie laid her down gently, taking her face in his hands. “what happened, where are you hurt?”
“my back,” her eyes twisted shut in pain, tears leaked down her face. “werewolf. a pack, got me before i could apparate.”
a string of curses came from her mouth, and her body contorted in pain.
charlie ran through the date in his head. the full moon was still a week and a half away, so she wouldn’t be turned. but the wounds... they weren’t going to heal. he cursed loudly, grabbing the kit from billius.
“okay lumi, i’m gonna have to put you on your stomach,” charlie told her firmly, nodding to billius. the other man went on the other side of luminita, ready to help. “on the count of three. one, two... three.”
the two men flipped her over as quickly and gently as possible, but a scream still tore from
luminita’s throat. each scream was like a stab into charlie’s chest.
the men removed her shirt, displaying her bare back. it had a thick, silver scar from the middle of her back reaching just over her shoulders. it made charlie pause for a moment. that was a burn from a dragon. he hadn’t ever known she was burned, it was something she had always been praised for.
he forced himself to look away. the werewolf injuries were more important than an older burn scar.
eight deep scars ran from her sides to the middle of her back, four on each side. they met in the middle, raking down the rest of her spine. a shallow bite mark was just below her right shoulder blade.
he grabbed his wand, muttering a spell that wiped the blood away. it still spilled from the wounds, but it made it easier to see where to put the powdered silver and dittany.
together, charlie and billius applied the mixture, sealing the wounds and stopping the bleeding. they were still red and angry raised lines, but they were no longer bleeding. that was all they could do.
“alright, lumi, we’re going to lift you up, alright?” charlie informed her, before nodding to billius. together, they flipped her back over, and helped her sit on the table.
she had a few shallow scratches on her arms and her face, although those appeared to be just from branches or brambles. she was pale, much too pale, and charlie quickly dug for a blood replenishing potion.
“i have one, don’t worry,” luminita waved her arm weakly, pulling one quickly from the depths of her satchel. “takes like utter shit.”
“we’ll give you some firewhiskey to wash it down.” billius said, waving his wand to clean up her smeared blood from around the shack.
luminita swallowed the potion quickly, her face screwing up in disgust. “holy fuck, that’s awful.”
“you’re feeling better.” charlie said quietly, a rush of relief running through his body.
she nodded, taking a glass of firewhiskey from billius. she knocked it down in one gulp, grimacing from the taste. her hands were still covered in blood.
“let me run you a bath.” charlie murmured, deep in thought.
he didn’t wait for a response, instead, he left the room to his small bathroom. he ran the water just below room temp, knowing the werewolf injuries would be hot and uncomfortable in warm water. luminita wasn’t going to be happy, she preferred boiling hot water.
when he entered the room again, she was still sitting on the round table; her eyes shut with her mouth screwed down in a grimace, her hands clenching the sides of the wood. billius had cleaned up and put the kit away, his cloak was put on and he nodded to charlie.
“i’ll be by wednesday, same time.”
charlie nodded to him, and the man left, leaving the two alone.
“do you want me to help you to the bath?” charlie asked, walking over to luminita.
she shook her head, gritting her teeth and she got down from the table. he figured she would say no. she was too proud.
after making sure she was safely in the bathroom, charlie went to his room and got her clean clothes; a pair of his plaid pajama pants and his old holyhead harpies tee shirt. he set them outside the bathroom, along with a towel, and told luminita through the door that they were there.
he then busied himself with making tea, her favorite lavender and chamomile. he also heated up cozonac, a romanian sweet bread. he knew it was one of her comfort foods.
everything was set at the table by the time she came out of the bathroom. charlie was waiting at the table, sitting in his chair with a pensive look on his face.
she snorted, sitting in the chair gingerly. if charlie hadn’t known her so well, the spasm of pain that crossed her face could have been mistaken for annoyance.
“any reason you look like you’re trying to figure out a new species of dragons?”
his eyes flitted to her face, taking in her thinner appearance, the scratches from tonight, the slight bruising on her jaw. she looked so tired, so ragged.
“i want you to come with me to my brothers wedding,” he told her firmly, his expression set. “i need a plus one, anyways.”
she opened her mouth, and charlie knew she was going to argue. he raised a hand, cutting her off with a shake of his head.
“i really don’t want to take no for an answer. i need a date, and you need a break. billius and maria can handle romania for a week. we’re going. that’s final.”
luminita was silent for a moment, and he could almost see the wheels turning in her head. she gave him a smile.
“a date, huh?”
“is that the only thing you heard?”
she shrugged, tearing off a piece of her cozonac. “it certainly was the most interesting.”
he smiled, shaking his head. they ate in silence, the sound of their tea cups clicking against the table and the crackling of the fire the only sound in the small shack.
“how did you get burned?” charlie asked suddenly, nodding towards her. “i saw it when we fixed the scratches.”
“you didn’t fix them,” she muttered, her mouth once again screwed down in a grimace. “there isn’t any fixing them.”
charlie was quiet. he wasn’t sure what he could say.
“when i first was interested in dragons, i was a reckless stupid sixteen year old,” she began, her eyes taking on a faraway look as she recalled her story. “and i wanted to bond with a dragon. i figured if i could do that, i would be guaranteed a spot in the academy. but i didn’t have the training, and i wanted it done right then instead of waiting and gaining its trust. i nearly died... but i didn’t. all i was left with is that horrible scar. and now i just have more.”
“scars add character,” charlie assured her, reaching across the table to take her hand in his. “i have plenty, but it just makes me look badass, right?”
“not really, no” she responded, although with the lift of her lips he knew she was joking. “my first though when i see you isn’t, ‘oh wow, what a badass’, it’s normally, ‘oh fuck, what does he need me to do now?’”
charlie laughed, running his thumb over her knuckles. “well, it’s a good thing we’re going to take a vacation, huh?”
“you really want me to meet your family?”
“of course i do. you’re basically my family.”
she nodded slowly, and drained the rest of her tea. charlie gathered their plates, placing them in the sink. he turned back to her, realizing he would have to sleep on the couch.
“erm, you can have my bed,” charlie told her, motioning towards his room. “i’ll take the couch.”
“nonsense,” she shook her head, nodding towards the room. “we can share your bed. i’m not kicking you out of your bed and i don’t think my back could handle the couch.”
charlie shook his head. “we aren’t going to sleep together-“
“no shit. all we’re doing is sharing a bed. big deal. what, are you a ten year old? it’s just a damn bed and we’re friends.”
“it wouldn’t be right-“
“oh what, too much of a pansy to share a bed with a girl?”
charlie narrowed his eyes. he knew logically that she said that only so he would be forced to agree, but he found he didn’t care to fight her on it. “fine. let’s go.”
they lay on opposite sides of the bed, with a pillow in between the two. he could hear her breathing, more ragged than usual. he was attuned to her usual noises. it made him on edge to hear a difference.
“charlie?”
“yeah?”
“i really care for you. i just don’t know how much longer i can wait for you.”
as he thought of a reply, the sounds of her snoring filled the room. he figured she was probably near sleep when she said the words, and she didn’t mean it.
he had to believe that.

“There’s not a witch or wizard that went bad that wasn’t in Slytherin.” Ron muttered to Harry and Heather, watching as Draco Malfoy sauntered over to the green and silver clad table.
Heather’s eyes lingered on the boy, before flitting back to continue watching the sorting. Harry was sorted before her. He looked nervous as he walked to the wooden stool, and the hat remained on his head for a minute longer than it had with the rest. The hat suddenly burst out, “GRYFFINDOR!”. A grin broke across Harry’s face, and he walked to the cheering Gryffindor table.
Heather felt the knots in her stomach lesson. Her brother had been sorted into Gryffindor house. That surely assured her a place in the same house. The thought took away some of her nerves, and she walked rather confidently up to the worn stool to have the old hat placed on her head.
‘Ahh, another Potter,’ the voice of the hat mused in her head. ‘Much like your brother, you have a thirst to prove yourself. You have a desire for knowledge, and wish to find out more about your parents..’
The hat was correct. Ever since she had found out that her parents were magical, she wanted to know everything about them and the world they had lived in. The resentment she harbored towards her aunt and uncle had grown and blossomed into a burning hatred. They had kept the knowledge from her and Harry because they were scared. They knew the twins were superior to them. They weren’t just mere muggles, she thought with disgust.
‘Seems as though you don’t care much for muggles, eh?’ the hat said lightly. ‘You wish to prove yourself, and your wish for knowledge is quite strong, you appear to be a bright young witch. Ravenclaw or Slytherin would be best for you..’
There’s not a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn’t in Slytherin. Ron’s words floated through her head again, and she was saddened as she realized Gryffindor wasn’t even an option for her.
She began pleading with the hat, not Slytherin, not Slytherin, please. What if she ended up evil, like Voldemort? Or a pompous arse like Malfoy? Knowing she would no longer have her twin throughout her years here, she wanted -no, needed- to be accepted, to be liked, here at Hogwarts. There would be no Dudley spreading rumor's about her and Harry, warding off any chance of friends.
‘Not Slytherin, eh? You could be great, you know, it’s all here in your head. And Slytherin will help you on your way to greatness, there’s no doubt about that.’
The wording gave her pause. The hat had said great, not evil. But what was the difference between great and evil? How did one ensure they wouldn’t slip past the line and land themselves in evil?
‘We are all the master of our own future,’ the sorting had replied with a chuckle. ‘It all depends on what a person intends to do with their greatness.’
Slytherin was a powerful house, she knew that. It definitely could lead her to greatness, to power… and if she intended on not becoming dark, well, then couldn’t she just be great?
‘Sounds like we have an answer,’ the hat chuckled once more. “SLYTHERIN!”
She opened her eyes, immediately searching the hall to find her brother's same green eyes staring horrified at hers. Offering him a weak smile, she slid off the chair, and made her way with her head down to the Slytherin table.
There was no eruption of cheers like there had been for Harry. Slytherin clapped heartily, while the rest of the tables had a scattering of claps and a cluster of whispers. Her cheeks flamed red, and her long red hair fell over her face like a curtain.
Sorry, Harry, she thought desperately, fighting the tears that threatened to spill out.
She had to be strong. She couldn’t be weak, that would get her nowhere, just like the one time she had burst into tears when Dudley had shoved her roughly to the ground in front of their entire elementary school. The courtyard had laughed at her, and Piers had sharply kicked at her ribs.
That couldn’t happen here. She straightened her back, and fixed what she hoped was an expression reminiscent of the mask of indifference that Aunt Petunia wore when she was forced to attend a parent teacher conference for the twins.
“Potter in Slytherin, huh?” Malfoy raised a brow as she sat across from him. “Surprised you aren’t with the muggle loving Weasley’s like your brother.”
“Maybe it’s because I’m not a muggle lover,” her voice matched his nastiness, and she twisted the word as it came from her mouth. “You don’t know anything about me, Malfoy.”
The table oohed at her words, and Malfoy glowered at her, his lip lifted in a sneer. She gave him one in response. She would be damned if this disgusting little rat put her down the same way she had let Dudley all those years. There was no fear of Aunt Petunia or Uncle Vernon here. There was only an endless possibility of power and greatness, and she would do her best to achieve both.
She spent the rest of her year at Malfoy’s throat, the two of them constantly arguing and bickering about something. They matched each other neck in neck with grades, Hermione Granger being the only one to beat the both of them. Malfoy was utterly disgusted by the fact that a muggle born was able to outsmart a pureblood, and Heather loved to dangle that fact over his head.
Heather quickly gained a decent friend group, rivaling the popularity Malfoy had obtained. At first everyone was interested in being her friend because she was part of the Duo Who Lived, and once that allure faded, she was left with a handful of people who truly enjoyed her company.
Daphne Greengrass and Theodore Nott were her closest friends, just as Pansy Parkinson and Blaise Zabini were Malfoy’s closest friends.
Due to Harry involving her in his first year escapades with the philosopher's stone, she was tentative friends with Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. As in, they tolerated each other's presence for the sake of Harry.
Part of her had toyed with the idea of truly befriending the two, just to get on Malfoy’s nerves even more, but not only would that risk her status on Slytherin, she also simply didn’t like the two. Ron hated her on the mere fact of her being a Slytherin, and Hermione she was just jealous of. The only thing she liked about the two was that they had accepted her brother with open arms and treated him kindly, Ron had even made him a near member of his family.
Sometimes she would get upset at the thought, for it seemed Harry didn’t need her anymore, but she was the first one he had told about the stone. She was the first one he had brought to the mirror of erisid. He had even invited her to Hagrid’s hut, although she had declined. The gamekeeper wasn’t very fond of her anymore after her sorting.
Summer had come and gone, the Weasley’s had come to rescue them from the Dursley’s, who had all but decided to starve the twins, and placed bars on their windows. All because of Dobby, the house elf, who had ruined the muggle's night with some supposedly important business man from Vernon’s work.
Heather had thought it was utterly ridiculous. They were muggles! None of them were important, really.
The Weasley’s were rather nice for being ‘blood traitors’, as Malfoy had called them. The twins had taken a liking to her, much to Ron’s chagrin. Molly was lovely as always, and treated her no differently despite her being a Slytherin. Arthur had nearly had a heart attack when he saw her sitting at their breakfast table, turning to Molly with a horrified expression as he had asked if they had had another child she hadn't told him about.
When they had gone to Diagon Alley to get their school supplies, they had run into Draco who had gotten a head taller and a slightly deeper voice. He and Heather had immediately launched into their usual banter, proving that not everything had changed over the summer with him. He had been thoroughly floored that she had befriended the Weasleys, much to her amusement.
The second year of school was more eventful than the first, with the Chamber of Secrets being opened. Everyone had assumed she had done it, and when she saw the fear it caused, she played along and pretended she was the heir. Again Harry enlisted her help in defeating the beast, and together they had encountered Tom Riddle. Harry had destroyed the basilisk with the sword of Gryffindor, and she had stabbed the diary with the basilisk fang.
Summer came once more, and this time Aunt Marge was the catalyst for their eventful break. She had insulted their parents, prompting Harry and Heather to have a rather potent bout of accidental magic. Harry had made Aunt Marge swell up like a blimp, causing her to float away from the Dursleys home, while Heather had done something that altered Aunt Marge permanently. She had caused the woman's brain to implode, which made her bleed profusely from her eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. The Healers were unable to fix her, and they had to erase the woman from the Dursleys' memories in order to keep the peace.
Somehow, the ministry had forgiven the twins for their magic even though it had cost a woman her life.
Then, in their third year, they met their godfather. Sirius Black, a wanted criminal, who was thought to have been the one who turned the Potter’s over to Voldemort. Instead, an innocent man was sent to Azkaban without a trial while the real criminal, Peter Pettigrew, hid as Ron Weasley’s pet rat. Heather had gone back in time with Harry and Hermione to save Sirius from the dementors kiss, and he filled them with promises of living with him away from the Dursleys.
The following summer was when Heather began questioning the things they had been told since joining the Wizarding World. She began to question Dumbledore’s intentions, especially after their meeting with Sirius. How was it he wasn’t given a trial? Why had Dumbledore not even tried to help him? Couldn’t they have used Veritaserum, or Occlumency?
Whenever Heather voiced her concerns, and wondering why Dumbledore hadn't done more, Harry took it as a personal attack. She supposed she should have guessed as much, being that Harry had a special relationship with the Headmaster. Instead of talking it over with Harry, she kept it to herself, just as she kept her opinions on muggles quiet.
It was an unusually warm summer day when they received their invitation to go to the World Cup with the Weasleys. Uncle Vernon had very nearly not let them go, but thankfully, with the threat of their godfather looming over his head, he relented. Harry and Heather were packed that night.
Yet five o’clock came the next day, and then ten past five… and then a quarter past five. Heather had begun to feel anxious like Harry, although for a different reason. Harry was anxious about missing the World Cup and not visiting the Weasleys for the end of their summer break; Heather was worried about being stuck with filthy muggles for the rest of the break.
Then, as Harry and Heather waited together on the opposite of the living room, there came a great commotion, and Dudley came running into the hall clutching his bottom.
Heather’s heart soared. The Weasley’s had to be the only ones to have caused that reaction. They must be there!
The twins hurried into the living room, to hear a loud banging and scraping coming from the fireplace. The boarded up fireplace, with a fake coal fire plugged in the front of it.
“Oh, no,” Heather muttered, putting the pieces together.
“What?” questioned Harry, his eyes darting over to hers.
“They came by floo.” she slapped a hand to her forehead, exhaling loudly.
Harry gasp of understanding came just as the voice of the Weasley’s were heard through the boards.
“Ouch! Fred, no- go back, go back, there’s been some kind of mistake- tell George not to- OUCH! George, no, there’s no room, go back quickly and tell Ron-”
“Maybe they can hear us, dad- maybe one of them will be able to let us out-”
The sound of fists hammering against the wood sounded through the living room.
“Harry? Heather? Can either of you hear us?”
The Dursleys rounded on the twins like a pack of angry wolverines.
“What is this?” growled Vernon.
“Well, they’ve tried to get here by Floo powder.” explained Harry, who sounded as though he was holding back laughter.
“We can travel by fire- only you blocked the fireplace with a fake one.” Heather said disdainfully, looking at the offending object.
Vernon’s face turned purple, and Harry walked over to the fireplace.
“Mr. Weasley? Can you hear me?”
The hammering stopped.
“Mr. Weasley, it’s Harry… the fireplace has been blocked up. You won’t be able to get through there.”
“Damn!” said Mr. Weasley’s voice. “What on earth do they have the fireplace blocked up for?”
As Harry conversed with Mr. Weasley, and Ron’s voice soon joined the mix, Heather brought their things into the living room, wanting to leave the moment they could. By the time she had gotten the first load of their items, she ran into Fred and George on the stairs.
“We can take it from here,” Fred winked, grabbing the trunk from her hands. “Georgie will get the rest.”
Heather grinned, and followed Fred down the stairs. Introductions had appeared to be out of the way, and Dudley had come out from the kitchen that he had been hiding out in. Dudley looked absolutely terrified.
It made Heather absolutely ecstatic.
Fred slipped back upstairs to help George, while Heather walked over to Harry who was standing by Ron. She noticed that the boy had gotten taller yet, and appeared to have gained muscle over the summer. Yet as he gave her a distasteful look, she knew not everything had changed with him over the holiday.
Fred and George re-entered the room with Heather’s trunk, cracking identical evil grins when they noticed Dudley.
Mr. Weasley lit the fireplace, and pulled out a drawstring bag from his pocket, tossing a pinch of the powder inside. The flames burned emerald green and soared higher than ever.
“Fred, off you go,” said Mr. Weasley.
“Coming,” said Fred, “Oh no, hang on-”
A bag of sweets spilled out of his pocket with the contents rolling in every direction, toffees wrapped in brightly colored wrappers. He scrambled around, cramming them back into his pockets, then waved to the Dursleys and stepped into the flames. He vanished.
Aunt Petunia gave a shuddering gasp, making Heather grin.
George left next with the trunks, and then Ron. Harry, Mr. Weasley, and Heather were the only ones who remained.
“Well, bye then.” Harry said awkwardly to the Durselys, while Heather was quiet.
She didn’t care to say goodbye. She just wanted to leave.
They didn’t say anything. Heather moved to the hearth, but Mr. Weasley stopped her.
“Your niece and nephew are leaving for the summer,” he paused. “Aren’t you going to say goodbye?”
The look on Uncle Vernon’s face when he realized a wizard was teaching him etiquette was priceless and in Heather’s opinion, made up for the extra time spent trapped in the muggle’s house. His beady eyes saw that Mr. Weasley’s wand was still out, and that seemed to be threat enough for him to give them a very resentful goodbye.
“See you,” said Harry, who stepped next to Heather.
“Have fun with the diet, Dudley.” Heather said in a parting, the corners of her mouth lifted in a smirk. Without a second look back, she stepped into the green fire and shouted, “The burrow!”
As she spun through the warm flames, she felt elation in her chest. She didn’t have to spend the rest of the summer stuck with her piss poor family. It was a good start to the school year already.

SUMMARY: Gwendolyn Weasley was the only one of her family to be sorted into Slytherin, and she becomes the black sheep of the family. her morals get twisted as she fights for her place in Slytherin house, but will she lose them completely?
PAIRINGS: none, eventual Draco X OC if continued.
hello! really im not sure if this is worth continuing, but it’s been floating around my mind for awhile so I decided to start writing it out. possibly will become a mini series if anyone wants it? enjoy!
Tumblr media
Ginerva and Gwendolyn Weasley were the second set of twins to be born to the Weasley family. Their parents had been ecstatic to finally receive the girls they had so desperately wanted (more so Molly than Arthur), that it temporarily overshadowed the sheer panic of them having been twins. Twin girls.
Their first set of twins, Fred and George, had been more than several handfuls to deal with. If they weren’t lighting something on fire, they were terrorizing their easiest target, their youngest brother Ron.
The girls had proved to be just as difficult in their own way.
From a very early age Gwendolyn was able to convince Ginerva to do just about anything she said. Stealing from muggle shops, their siblings, neighbors; setting out more vindictive traps for the muggles around their neighborhood. The girls were close, but there was always the understanding between them that Gwendolyn was the leader out of the two. In addition to that, she was also the more manipulative and cunning of the two.
That’s not to say that Ginerva wasn’t strong in herself. She just loved her twin dearly, and was willing to put her own morals aside for the sake of keeping the peace with her twin. Gwendolyn had always felt that as the only girls, and the second set of twins, they needed to work hard to stand out and not let opportunities for power pass them by. Even if that power was only enjoying stolen bubble gum while their siblings had none.
Regardless of her questionable morals, Gwendolyn fiercely loved her family and had a conscience, contrary to what her older brother Percy seemed to think. She just cared more about what would be best for her and in turn, her twin, than how her actions would affect others. Gwendolyn would go to the ends of the earth to ensure Ginerva was okay.
By the time the girls had turned nine, their parents had come to realize that although Ginerva was normally at the forefront of the trouble they got into, Gwendolyn was the orchestrator of the scheme. No matter how many times Molly berated the girls for their wrongdoings, they didn’t stop. She spoke with Ginerva and told her she did not always have to go along with her sisters plans, and she spoke with Gwendolyn, telling her just because Ginerva was willing to do things for her didn’t mean she should.
Ginerva had tearfully said she would do better. Gwendolyn had laughed.
When the girls had finally headed off to Hogwarts, their mother had fretted and worried and bitten her nails as she sent them off, giving their older brothers firm instruction to watch over them. Percy had taken the suggestion to heart and swore he would, the twins had saluted their mother and laughed as they nodded, Ron had just shrugged noncommittally. Molly even requested that Harry and Hermione do their best to watch out for them, and the second years promised they would.
Ginerva was sorted first. The hat sat on her head for a few moments before loudly proclaiming “GRYFFINDOR!”. The redhead made her way over to the rest of her redheaded family, who hooted and hollered and made a ruckus as she blushed.
Gwendolyn was next. The hat sat on her head for a few beats longer than her twin, before proclaiming “SLYTHERIN!” just as loudly as it had for Ginvera. The redhead’s eyes widened for a moment, before she quickly fixed her expression into an indifferent mask and walked stiffly towards the green and silver table. Her family at the Gryffindor table had hesitated before clapping; Percy with an expression of horror, the twins with a disappointed grimace, Ron with a mix of concern and fear, and Ginerva with a look of crushed devastation.
Gwendolyn didn’t spare a second glance towards her family as she set down tentatively at the Slytherin table, hearing murmured whispers coming from an already established friend group a few seats down from her. She had felt out of place without her twin next to her.
“I’m Astoria,” the brunette next to her greeted, holding out a hand for her to shake.
“Gwendolyn,” she replied, giving the other girl a firm shake. “You can call me Gwen.”
The brunette nodded and smiled, before turning her attention back to the sorting.
“Weasley, hm?” a voice drawled to her left, and she turned to see a boy with slicked back silver hair giving her a haughty once over. “I’ll have to let father know they let one of you in Slytherin. Surely the hat has made a mistake. A muggle loving blood traitor would never be allowed in Slytherin.”
Gwendolyn paused for a moment, her thoughts racing. She knew enough about Draco Malfoy to know his approval would make or break her acceptance into Slytherin house. She needed to earn his approval. She had to show him he wasn’t just another Weasley. She had to break free.
Her eyes narrowed. “The hat doesn’t make mistakes, Malfoy. But perhaps you do. I’m not like my family. I absolutely hate muggles. They disgust me.”
She said the words with force, her lip slightly curled up in a snarl. A rush went through her at the admission. Her family would never allow her to talk like that. Although she didn’t thoroughly hate muggles, she certainly didn’t like them. It was thrilling to finally say it out loud.
Draco looked taken aback. He lifted an eyebrow, eyeing her appraisingly. “Well, Weasley, maybe your family isn’t a complete blood traitor waste after all.”
“My name is Gwendolyn.”
“I don’t recall caring.”
The two glowered at each other for a moment, before Dumbledore gathered everyone's attention for his speech. The night went on rather quickly from that moment, and before long they had headed up to their dorms. Gwendolyn spent her first night in Slytherin tower staring at the ceiling and contemplating her future. Tears would be useless. She had to be strong to get through her Hogwarts career. Her sister would not be at her side. That night, she resolved to be strong, sly, and cunning. It was her best bet at getting through the year unscathed.
Gwendolyn proved during her years at Hogwarts that she was nothing like her family. It gained her the approval of Malfoy, which shot her up the social ladder of Slytherin house. Astoria Greengrass had become her closest friend, and the two girls were accepted into Malfoy’s prominent social circle by the end of their first year. Her growth and flourishing in Slytherin house had driven a large wedge between herself and her family. Her voiced distaste of muggles and her turned nose at muggleborns did not go unnoticed by her family.
In return for being accepted into Slytherin, she had lost her family relationships.
Summers were always the hardest. She no longer had Ginerva as a friend. The girls had grown cold and distant with each other as a result of Ginerva becoming more confident in herself without her sister constantly in her ear. Percy, before he too had abandoned their family for the ministry, had acted as though she didn’t exist. The twins were more and less the same, although they weren’t as sociable towards her as they were towards the others. Ron absolutely despised her for not only being Slytherin, but also being good friends with Malfoy. Charlie and Bill simply weren’t around.
Her mother was, to put it honestly, disappointed in how she had shunned everything she had been taught morally growing up. Her father resented the way she spoke of muggles, and endlessly attempted to change her mind. They didn’t understand that when she was sorted into Slytherin house as the only Weasley, she did what she needed to do to not only thrive, but survive.
A small part of her that grown bigger over the years couldn’t help but start to believe in what the Slytherin’s thought. Especially with the way her family shunned her and couldn’t understand that she had done what she needed to do as a scared, lonely eleven year old.
Things had gotten worse since Voldemort's return. At the end of her fourth year, Ron and Ginny had accompanied Harry to the Department of Mysteries where they had fought against Death Eaters and Voldemort himself had shown up. Apparently in protest of Umbridge, they had been involved in Dumbledore’s Army, something they had not invited her to be part of. The rest of her family that still attended Hogwarts had been in the club, aside from her.
She was used to not being included by now, of course.
Her parents were a part of the Order of the Phoenix, an organization founded to fight Voldemort and his followers. Her siblings were much more informed on what went on during the meetings than she was. It wasn’t from her lack of trying, of course. When they had spent the summer at Grimmauld Place, she had attempted to listen in on the Extendable Ears with the others. But they always managed to shift away slightly or crowd around the ears so there was no way for her to hear. They simply didn’t trust her.
She had heard the Golden Trio speaking on more than one occasion about how she shouldn’t even have been allowed there with them. None of her siblings ever stuck up for her. It stung, but she supposed it was only reasonable. After all, she was a Slytherin. As Ron had always voiced, normally paired with a biting glare towards her, there wasn’t a witch or wizard that was in Slytherin that hadn’t gone bad. Apparently he had adopted the phrase from Hagrid.
So she sat outside most of the summer, alone, lying under the large Sycamore tree a yard away from the house. She had been offered more than once to visit her housemates' places during the summer, but her parents had forbidden it. With the war gaining momentum, it was too much of a risk. The unspoken message was clear. They didn’t trust that she would keep quiet about any
“Hey, Gwen.”
Gwendolyn turned with a start, her thick red hair tumbling over her shoulder. Harry Potter stood a few feet away from her, looking awkward as he waited for her reply. She examined him for a moment. He was taller now, more filled out and sturdy, she supposed from an aesthetic standpoint she could understand why her sister liked him so much.
“Can I help you?” the words were sharp, her brow raised as she awaited an answer.
He rarely talked to her. None of them did really, except for when their mother forced them all too cheerily to interact ast family dinners and the more sparse family outings. But Harry had always treated her as though she were a bomb, one step too close and she might take him out.
“Well, erm,” Harry seemed to blanch at her boldness. He seemed to have been expecting her to be more like Ginny. “I was wondering… I know you’re friends with Malfoy,” the name fell from his lips in a twisted spit. “Have you heard much from him this summer? I saw him in Knockturn alley while we were shopping for school supplies, and he seemed off. I just was wondering if he had said anything to you that made you worried.”
Gwendolyn stared at him for a moment, listening to him ramble on. He was awful at being subtle. He wanted to know if she knew any of Draco’s secrets, and he thought if he asked her nicely she would willingly give them up. She had to scoff at that. Typical Gryffindor.
“You’re concerned for his well being?” she stood, her voice falsely sweet. “That’s so kind of you, Potter. But from what I recall, you and Draco don’t care much for each other,” she tapped a finger to her chin, pretending to ponder the thought for a moment. “Oh! You were just hoping I would gossip with you. Perhaps next time, try Veritaserum. Or have your little brainiac give you a more subtle approach.”
Harry stuttered for a moment, seeming at a loss for words. He glanced backwards, and she followed his gaze to see Ron and Hermione standing at the front door of the Burrow, watching them. Her eyes narrowed, her jaw clenching.
“Get lost, Potter,” she snarled, anger flashing through her like a hot branding iron. “Or I’ll give them something to watch.”
“Right, erm, sorry.” Harry managed to say, turning and walking swiftly to the house. He didn’t spare her a backwards glance, and the trio slipped into the Burrow the moment Harry came back.
Gwen tamped down on her anger, wishing desperately she were at Hogwarts already. Tomorrow couldn’t come fast enough.

The house was abuzz with Christmas cheer the following day. They had spent the morning decorating the dark and dreary Grimmauld Place with Christmas decorations, and Sirius had kept the cheer alive by singing Christmas carols at random. Hermione had arrived as well, having decided against going skiing with her parents.
Harry had stayed upstairs, no matter how many times Molly had tried to lure him down. Juliet felt slightly guilty for being happy that he had stayed up there, as it meant she had more of Sirius’ attention. She was trying her best not to be so standoffish towards her father. It was easier now, with him in such a joyous mood and Harry out of the picture.
Remus came by around noon to take Juliet to Diagon Alley to shop for presents. The two of them had set out by fifteen after, and by one o’clock they were nearly done shopping.
“So, how have things at school been?” Remus questioned as they walked past Ollivanders.
A strong gust of wind blew flecks of snow over them, and Juliet wished she would have worn her cloak. She had dressed casually in jeans and a sweater, with George’s parka thrown over it. She hadn't been able to find her own, and George was more than willing to offer his out.
“It’s been alright,” Juliet paused, chewing her lip. She wasn’t sure how much she should say about Umbridge, or Theo. “Our new teacher has been quite the experience, I can tell you that.”
Remus’ mouth drew into a tight line. “Yes. That ghastly woman has made life difficult for me as well.”
“Seems she likes to hold grudges, too,” Juliet said lightly, holding the door to Madam Primpernelle’s, a beauty shop. “Me being the daughter of the infamous Black, and my adoptive father being a werewolf, well, I feel she nearly fainted when she saw me in her class.”
Remus let out a humorless laugh. “I’m sure you’ve given her the utmost respect.”
“Course I have. I was raised by the most respectable man, wasn’t I?”
She ducked away from Remus’ swatting hand, heading over to the shelves of different colored potions and jars. Scanning over them, she picked a few for Ginny. The girl loved skincare, as was evident by her gleaming blemish free freckled skin, so she replenished a few of the ones she knew the ginger haired girl was low on. Plucking a dark amber colored perfume that proclaimed to be of a woodsy scent, she was done shopping for Ginny.
Remus looked more than happy when she rang up her purchases, and they left the store. He had looked out of place while they had been in there, and Juliet couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.
“Alright, now you’ve just got to get something for the twins, correct?” Remus asked her as they walked down the cobblestone pathway.
Juliet nodded, heading towards the Apothecary. She knew there were a few ingredients that were vital to the twin’s joke shop plans, and she knew it would be the most worthwhile gift she could give the two.
She found what she needed inside rather quickly, and as she was walking back outside of the shop, she couldn’t help but feel as though they needed something more.
“What’s got you looking like you swallowed an acid pop?” Remus nudged her shoulder, taking a few bags from her.
“I dunno,” she sighed heavily, watching the fog from her mouth swirl away from them. “I just feel like I should get them something more personal.”
“Them, or just George?”
“My goodness, you too?!” Juliet stopped in her tracks, her hands on her hips. The multiple shopping bags she carried smacked against her thighs harshly, but she ignored the pain. “Why does everyone assume we like each other? George is my best friend, my absolute best friend, and he’s outrageously gorgeous and funny and caring and kind, and he would much rather date Alicia Spinnet whose also gorgeous and kind and stupid Gryffindor rather than a Slytherin-”
“Woah, okay, okay,” Remus cut her off, putting his hand up to halt her ranting. He looked sideswiped, as though he hadn’t been expecting that reaction. “I didn’t mean to upset you, I just thought that you and George were… heading in that direction. I’ve always liked him, you know, I think he’s much better than the son of a Death Eater.”
“My merlin, who told you?”
“I may have questioned Fred and promised him some more doxy venom if he would care to gossip with me.”
“You are unbelievable.”
The two of them resumed their walking, Juliet silently fuming. If Remus knew, then surely Sirius knew about Theo. They wouldn’t understand! Sure, he did carry a bit of the usual pureblood prejudices, but he seemed to be seeing her point of view a bit better. He was kind, too, much more so than the other Slytherin boys.
But he wasn’t George, the voice in her head pointed out.
She shook her head. Why would she think that? George was her best friend. That was that. Just like Fred. They were both her best friends. Nothing more to it.
So why did she keep thinking about how breathtakingly handsome he was?
“Look, you could give him that,” Remus broke her out of her thoughts, pointing towards a street peddler, who was advertising picture frames. “Let’s take a look.”
The closer they got, the more they could hear what she was advertising. She claimed you could think of any memory, and she could extract it from your thoughts, and turn it into a picture. It seemed impossible, even with magic, but with Remus’ encouragement she decided to try it.
“Alright love, what can I do for you?” the girl gave a wide smile, her teeth a light blue color.
“I’d like a picture of my best friend and I,” Juliet paused, her face falling. “Although I suppose if it’s my memory, I won’t be in the picture.”
“Well, I’m sure I could think of one for you,” Remus spoke up, winking at the girl waiting eagerly. “How about I do one of both you and the twins, and one of you and George? That way Fred won’t feel left out.”
Juliet nodded, and she stood by and watched as the lady explained the process. All Remus had to do was think of a memory, and she would extract it from his mind and place it onto the picture film.
Once Remus confirmed he was ready, the woman pressed her wand to his temple and drew out a silvery strand that she quickly placed onto the four by six film.
Juliet let out a gasp of awe as the picture quickly focused into place. The three of them were at the Weasley’s, Juliet and George sitting on the couch as Fred sprawled out over them.  They were all laughing, jostling Fred around in an attempt to get him off them.
“That’s amazing!” she exclaimed, beaming at the girl.
The girl wore a bright smile as she extracted the next silvery memory from Remus. As it focused into place on the film, Juliet felt her heart skip a beat as it focused into place.
This memory was from this summer at Grimmauld Place. They both sat on the floor, her head in George’s lap as he lazily ran his fingers through her hair. He was looking down at her with that expression he wore at Kings Cross, while she read from a muggle book Remus had gotten her. She lowered the book slightly, and the two of them broke out in laughter.
Juliet felt her chest constrict, and her stomach dropped. Her conflicting feelings hit her like the knight bus, and she inhaled sharply.
She fucking liked George. A lot. A hell of a fucking lot.
“Do you like it?” the girl asked, a grin on her face.
“It’s perfect,” Remus nodded, taking out his pouch from Gringotts. “How much do I owe you?”
“Three Galleons and two Sickles,” the girl replied brightly. “For an extra two Galleons, I can throw another one in for a discounted price.”
Remus hesitated, before nodding and pulling out the coins. “Alright, sounds like a deal.”
The girl took the coins, and placed them in her bag. She then waited for Remus to say he was ready, before she placed her wand to the tip of his temple once more, the silvery memory splashing onto the film before them.
This one was different, and it took Juliet a moment to place the scene and recognize the people there. Once she did, thoughts of George left and all she could do was stare.
A man with unruly black hair and glasses next to a gorgeous girl with stunning green eyes and dark red hair sat on the floor with a chunky baby who had a tuft of black hair, waving his fists around as he seemed to be babbling to the other baby next to him. This baby had soft brown hair, a girl, holding a snitch in her tiny fist as she smiled at the baby. Behind her, sat a handsome man with wavy black hair and a charming smile, a woman with long blonde hair resting her head on his shoulder with a smile on her face.
“Mum,” Juliet said the word softly, her voice catching in her throat. “Is that Harry and his parents?”
Remus nodded, his eyes taking on a faraway look. “Any chance I could have another copy?”
“For twelve sickles, you certainly can.”
A few minutes later, and they were on their way back to the Leaky Cauldron. Knots formed in Juliet’s stomach as she realized she was that much closer to being back to Grimmauld Place, which wouldn’t be a problem if she hadn’t had the earth shattering realization that she liked her best friend of twelve years.
“How about we get a cup of Butterbeer before we head back, hm?”
Juliet nodded thankfully at Remus’ suggestion, and the two of them sat at a table with a slightly sticky top. They had their bags underneath the table and between their legs, just in case any of the more questioning patrons thought of taking their gifts.
Remus ordered each of them a Butterbeer, and with a wink thrown her way, a cauldron cake and a pumpkin pastry. It was their tradition every year to do this after Christmas shopping, and she had been slightly worried that they may not have been able to do so with everything going on with the Order.
“I’m not needed anywhere until four, so we’ve still got an hour.” Remus explained, waving his wand towards the table to rid it of its stickiness.
“Will you be by on Christmas eve or day at all?” asked Juliet, her chin in her hand as she awaited his response.
“I think I can swing it with Dumbledore to stop by Christmas day.”
“What does he have you all doing, anyways?”
As soon as the question left her mouth, she could have kicked herself. She knew he probably wasn’t allowed to discuss it with her, much less in the crowded Leaky Cauldron. The response from Remus shaking his head imperceptibly let her know it was a foolish question.
Their drinks arrived, and they spent the next half an hour munching on their treats and drinking their Butterbeer. As usual, they split the two treats between each other. It was their Christmas tradition. Remus inquired about how school was going, and hinted about the DA, and she told him both were going well. She let him know how great of a teacher Harry was, and how they had started getting along better.
“Juliet!”
Remus and Juliet both turned to see who had called her name, and her heart warmed as she saw Narcissa and Draco making their way over towards her. She stood up eagerly from the table, engulfing her aunt in a hug.
“Auntie Cissy, it’s so good to see you!”
“I’m here too, y’know.” Draco muttered at his mothers side, his fuzzy hat nearly covering his eyes.
Juliet rolled her eyes, and pulled out of her aunt's warm and good smelling embrace. She hugged Draco overly tightly, letting go to pinch his cheeks.
“Oh, my dearest Draco, how could I ever forget you!”
“Oh, bugger off.” Draco grumbled, swatting her away.
“Draco, be nice to your cousin,” Narcissa gently reprimanded, turning her attention back to Juliet with a warm smile. “Juliet, we missed you at our house over summer hols.”
“Yes, it seemed you were dogging our invitations.” Lucius appeared behind them, a cold look on his face as he eyed Remus who had come to stand next to Juliet.
“Molly needed her help over the summer,” Remus responded coldly, his hand resting on Juliet’s shoulder protectively. “Juliet was quite busy.”
“I’m sure you all were.” Lucius had a look in his eye Juliet didn’t at all.
“Juliet, would you like to come over for Christmas eve?” Narcissa asked, giving her husband a harsh look from the corner of her eyes.
“I would-” Juliet began, but was cut off from Remus’ quick reply.
“Actually, we’re traveling for Christmas this year. Just needed to grab a few things before we left, but we are heading off later tonight.”
“Where are you headed?” Lucius cocked his head, flexing his fingers on his cane. “Not too far, I would imagine. On your salary, or lack thereof.”
Remus tightened his jaw, and Juliet quickly tried to diffuse the tension.
“I’ll see if we’re back by then, Auntie,” Juliet tried to smile, but she thought it came off as more of a grimace. “I’ll write to Draco if I am.”
Narcissa nodded and smiled at her. Lucius cleared his throat, drawing her attention.
“Well, Juliet, our home is always welcome to you,” a glint appeared in his eyes. “Especially if you find your… dog, prefers someone else over you.”
“Let’s go, Juliet.” Remus had dropped all pretense of being polite, and gripped her hand harshly as he turned her around.
He quickly gathered their bags, keeping a painful grip on her arm. Juliet let herself be dragged away, flashing an apologetic look towards Draco and Narcissa. She knew Lucius was an ass, but she hated that Remus was making her leave without a goodbye.
“Let go of my arm,” Juliet snapped once they were outside, yanking it out of his grip. “That hurt.”
“Sorry,” Remus replied distractedly, not sounding very apologetic at all. “We have to get a move on. I need to tell Dumbledore immediately about Malfoy.”
Juliet rolled her eyes, and followed Remus to a more secluded area where he apparated them back to the front of Grimmauld Place. Once the place appeared, they entered quickly.
“Remus, Juliet, is that you?” Molly called from the kitchen, the smells of dinner and the sounds of Christmas carols floating through the house.
“It’s us, Molly,” Remus replied quickly, shifting the bags to Juliet. “I’ve got to send a message to Dumbledore right away, and then get off to…” his voice disappeared as he slipped further down the hall.
“What was that?” questioned Molly, entering the hallway to see Juliet standing with the weight of all the bags on her arms. “Oh, dear, would you like help? Fred, George, come help Jules!”
Juliet’s face flushed as Fred and George bounded down the steps, he heart leaping to her throat when George stood in front of her.
“Ah, what have we got here?” Fred attempted to peer inside the bags.
“I don’t think so, Weasley,” Juliet snatched them away from him, handing over the ones with Ginny’s, Harry’s, Ron, and their parents presents. “You and your brother can carry these. I will make sure these ones are hidden far away from you lot.”
“Oh, so now I’m the brother?” George joked, although she could see some genuine hurt showing underneath the joking manner.
“Course not, Georgie,” replied Juliet, her voice uncharacteristically soft. “You’re my best friend.”
The two of them shared eye contact, brown meeting grey. The air seemed to grow heavier around the two, and Juliet could feel her confession threatening to claw its way out of her throat-
But then George looked away, clearing his throat, and Juliet flushed once more, embarrassed at herself. Why did she have to figure out she had feelings for him?
“Alright, Jules, make sure you have your presents wrapped,” Remus reappeared, pulling his wand from his pocket. “I’ll see you on Christmas.”
He gave her a tight hug, and then left Grimmauld Place. She felt a bit empty, sad, about watching him go, but shrugged it off. He would be back.
The twins helped her carry the presents off to the small room with the Black family tree, and after casting them out and locking the door, she began wrapping her presents. The only one that wasn’t one she was giving out, was the picture of her parents and Harry’s with them as babies, from Remus to Harry. She wrapped it carefully, and set it aside.
Wrapping everything had taken nearly an hour. She was meticulous in her wrapping, and had to have everything be perfect. On the back of the picture with her and George, she had debated on what to write on it before finally deciding to simply write, ‘to my best friend. love you. -Jules’.
She found herself staring at the other copy of the picture Harry was receiving, examining every picture. She didn’t have many, or really any, pictures of her and her parents. She only had one lone picture of her mum, a few of her father, and none of them all together. Most of it had been lost along with her mum.
A knock broke her out of her thoughts, and she wiped tears as she looked up.
“Juliet? Can I come in?” Sirius’ voice came through the thick wood.
She swished her wand to unlock the door in reply, and Sirius entered the room. He chuckled at the sight of the slight pile of presents next to her. It died down as he saw the picture in her hand, and he carefully sat next to her.
“Where did you get that?”
So, Juliet launched into an explanation of the girl who made memories into pictures. By the end of her explanation, Sirius looked thoroughly impressed.
“Not too bad of a price, either,” Sirius rubbed his face, looking down at the picture. “When this whole mess is cleared up, I’ll have to pay her a visit. I can think of a million memories I want to be tangible.”
It was silent for a moment, as Sirius stared at the picture.
“I always think of how things would have been so different had I not gone after Peter that day,” his voice was low, rough. “I would have never had to leave you, or Harry. I could have raised you both, protected you both… you both would have known so much love.”
“Remus has given me plenty of love,” Juliet replied defensively. His words rubbed her the wrong way. “But when you finally came back, you didn’t show me any. You may have missed out on the first thirteen years of my life, but you could make up for it. Instead you’re giving it all to Harry.”
The admission made her breathless, and her words seemed to hang around them. She held her breath, expecting Sirius to retort angrily as he always did, but he didn’t. Instead, he sagged his shoulders, slumping forward, and nodded.
“I know I haven’t been the best father to you, Jules,” he began earnestly. “I look at Harry and I see… I see James. My best friend, nearly my brother. Hell, he was my brother for all intents and purposes. I pushed him to use Peter as the secret keeper. If I hadn’t done so, Harry would have had a father. I feel the only way to make it up to them is by doing my best to be the father figure I robbed him of.”
This time, it was his admission that hung around them. On one hand, Juliet felt vindicated that he finally admitted to the favoritism, but on the other hand; she felt if he was able to be so insightful and see he was acting that way, he was able to not do so.
“I just want you to love me like you love him,” her voice was just above a whisper. “I used to dream about you coming home and us being a family. But you never came back for me. It was Harry you came back for. Not me. It hurts.”
“I saw Pettigrew in the paper,” Sirius shook his head. “I knew if he was still alive, my chance for redemption was there. If I could just get hold of him, I could prove my innocence and take guardianship of Harry, and you. That gave me all I needed to break out. And then… Peter got away.”
Juliet was silent again. He didn’t leave for Harry, he left because he saw a way for him to put his life back together. Not only for Harry, but for her.
“I know I haven’t been as good as showing care for you like I have been with Harry. It just feels so natural towards Harry, because of his dad. But I’m your dad. Literally. And I’m sorry I’ve made you feel like I didn’t care about you.”
Her eyes filled with tears. She felt vindicated, so vindicated, and relief at hearing these words come from his mouth made her happy.
“Your mother would have been right pissed, you know,” Sirius nudged her shoulder, still looking down at the picture in her hands. “You turned out to have the Black looks through and through. She had hoped you would have been a spitting image of her. We had a bet going, before…” and his voice trailed off, lost in memories.
“Do you miss her?”
“I do. It’s gotten easier, but… your mother was special. A really good friend.”
“Remus always told me stories about her. And you, and James, and Peter. Lily seemed to be the only one of you with her head on straight. Sometimes, when I was younger, I would pretend my dolls were you guys. Like you were there with me.”
Sirius wrapped an arm around her, hugging her tightly. “I’m here now. I’m sorry I wasn’t before.”
Her heart swelled as for the first time, she felt comforted by her father. Her blood father. Remus was her father in every sense of the word, but she had always craved Sirius’ love and presence. Now, she had both.
Things were getting better.

“Bloody hell,” muttered Ron, poking Harry in his side. “Who are they?”
Harry followed Ron’s subtle nod in the direction of two identical twin girls standing next to none other than Draco Malfoy. They were stunningly beautiful. Long silver hair neatly falling in a straight curtain down their back, slim bodies with ample curves, delicate facial features, and they carried each other with an elegant grace.
“Shut your mouth, you idiots, you’ll catch flies,” Hermione reprimanded them, huffing as she entered the train. “We’ll have slim pickings for our ride if we don’t get a move on.”
Reluctantly, Harry and Ron followed their friend into the Hogwarts express, but Harry hung back. He had to know about Malfoy. Shaking it off, he followed his friends to their compartment. Once they got settled in, Harry excused himself from their presence.
He had the invisibility cloak tucked in his hands.
The train halls were nearly empty, as most everyone had already gotten their seats and were busy catching up with their friends they had missed over the summer. Harry knew he should be doing the same. But he felt it was more important he spied on Malfoy, and saw for himself if he mentioned anything about being a Death Eater. Arthur and the other adults may not believe his claim, but he could feel in his gut it was true.
There was a break of people around him, and he could see the Slytherin compartment ahead of him. He ducked into an alcove, and wrapped the cloak around himself. The two beautiful girls were in there, sitting on either side of Malfoy. There was also Malfoy’s usual gang, Crabbe, Goyle, Zabini, Parkinson, and Nott.
Harry paused for a moment in the hallway, able to openly stare at the girls without being seen. Sitting alongside Malfoy, it was shocking to see how alike they looked. Same grey blue eyes, same hair color, similar facial structures. They almost looked like an ethereal painting, straight out of Michelangelo. But Malfoy didn’t have any siblings. Did he?
Seeing his opportunity, Harry tossed the instant darkness powder into the compartment. Ignoring the indignant yells and sounds of shock, he hurdled himself into their compartment, swinging up quickly to hide undetected on the top of the luggage rails.
“Come sit down Draco, we’ll be at Hogwarts soon.” Parkinson’s voice floated up towards him, and the darkness cleared so Harry was able to survey the scene below him.
Malfoy, who had gotten up when the compartment went dark, shook his head as he sat back down in his seat. This time, he sat on the outside of the bench, while the twin girls sat on the inside looking positively bored.
“Hogwarts,” Malfoy scoffed, rolling his eyes. “What a pathetic excuse for a school. Think I’d pitch myself off the astronomy tower before I’d have to continue for another two years.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Parkinson questioned, looking concerned. Her hand twitched, almost as though she had wanted to reach out and take hold of Malfoy’s hand, but thought better of the idea.
The twins exchanged looks with each other, their lips turning up in an identical knowing smirk.
“Let’s just say I don’t think I see myself wasting my time in Charms class next year.” Malfoy replied ominously, his rings clad fingers tapping against the table.
Zabini laughed, well, more like scoffed. This made Malfoy narrow his eyes at him. The twins also turned to stare at Zabini, their heads cocked to the side as they seemed to appraise the Slytherin.
“Amused, Blaise?” Malfoy uttered dangerously, his hands clenching into fists.
Zabini had an amused grin on his handsome face, looking down at the table and then back up at Malfoy.
“We’ll see just who's laughing in the end.” as Malfoy spoke the last word, his eyes flicked upwards to where Harry was hidden.
Harry held his breath, as his eyes met Malfoy’s, but the silver haired boy looked away. He let his breath out slowly and quietly.
“What do you find so funny, Zabini?” one of the twins spoke up, the one who was sitting by the window. Harry thought her voice was rather lovely, soft and raspy at the same time.
“Just find it interesting that your brother seems to think he’s been chosen,” Zabini stressed the last word, tilting his head as he eyed the boy. “By him.”
“How would you know that Draco hasn’t?” the other girl spoke up, leaning forward on the table as she stared down Zabini. Her voice was different than her twin, more of a meaner edge much like Malfoy. “After all, it isn’t like you were able to come over this summer. That should say something to you, hm?”
“Or, how about the fact that we’re here rather than Beauxbatons,” the window seat twin finished, tilting her head. “You’re a smart boy. Put two and two together.”
Harry felt his heart racing, and was sure they could hear it down below. Those girls were Malfoy’s sisters? Not only that, but their entire little conversation with Zabini nearly confirmed that Malfoy was a Death Eater. What was it Malfoy was chosen to do? And why had no one mentioned his sisters before?
“And just how does he think you’ll be able to do something for him?” Zabini addressed his question to Malfoy, seeming to have been irritated by the way the girls had insulted him. “Sixteen years old and not even fully qualified yet?”
“Maybe he doesn’t care if I’m qualified. Maybe the job he wants me to do isn’t something that you need to be qualified for.” Malfoy said quietly.
Crabbe and Goyle were both sitting with their mouths open like gargoyles. Parkinson was gazing at Malfoy as though she had never seen anything so awe inspiring. Zabini looked annoyed at best. The twin girls, Malfoy’s sisters, both looked satisfied at the reactions the Malfoy’s had created.
“I can see Hogwarts,” said Malfoy, clearly relishing the effect they had created as he pointed out the blackened window. “We’d better get our robes on.”
Harry watched as they all stood, putting on their robes and adjusting them to their likings. The twin girls had on plain black robes, earning them a laugh from Parkinson.
“You’d think they would have just sent you Slytherin robes straight away,” the pug faced girl laughed with humor. “Not like you’d get into any other house.”
“Oh, I dunno, maybe I’ll get Gryffindor.” the twin with the soft yet raspy voice said, sticking a finger down her throat in fake disgust. Her nails were long and pointed, painted a dark purple color.
“Don’t even joke about that, Cass,” the other twin muttered, gathering her long silver hair into a low ponytail. “You never know what that old man and his stupid hat could do.”
“If the hat even dares placing me anywhere but Slytherin, I’ll simply set it on fire.” Cass replied.
Harry filed the name away. Cass. Short and sweet, he supposed. She did seem to be the softer of the two girls. Yet, they were Malfoys. They would certainly be just like their brother, devils disguised as angels.
Zabini, Parkinson, Crabbe, and Goyle began making their way out of the compartment, but the three Malfoy’s stayed seated. The three exchanged looks, and Malfoy gave the girls a subtle nod before turning his attention back to the four who were looking at them expectantly.
“You four go on,” Malfoy nodded, waving them off with a flick of his fingers. “We have to check something.”
Harry felt his heart thud wildly in his chest.
The four Slytherins left, although Parkinson was much more hesitant than the others. It appeared she would rather listen to Malfoy than face his temper, as she disappeared into the crowd of students milling out of the train.
Soon, the compartment emptied out, and the three Malfoy’s stood. The twins stayed by the bench, while Malfoy went over to the compartment door. He shut it swiftly, and pulled down the blinds. With a flick of his wand, the rest of the blinds slammed down.
“Petrificus Totalus!” Malfoy spun around, waving his wand directly at Harry who was caught off guard.
Harry crashed to the ground, helplessly paralyzed, and watched as the three Malfoy’s walked over to him. Draco had a sneer on his face as he glared down at Harry. The twins seemed to be mildly impressed that Draco had known he was there.
“Well done, Draco,” the meaner twin breathed, cocking her head to the side. “So this is the famous Harry Potter?”
“Hasn’t anyone ever told you it was rude to eavesdrop, Potter?” Cass knelt down, gently patting his cheek. Harry remained unable to move. Cass stood once more, a smirk on her face.
“His mother was dead before he could wipe the drool from his chin.” Draco spoke the words with venom, sneering at Harry still. “You didn’t hear anything that we care about, Potter. But while I’ve got you here..”
Draco stamped down hard on Harry’s face. He felt his nose break, blood spurted everywhere.
“That’s from our father.”
Harry still couldn’t move. He watched as Cass gathered the invisibility cloak, draping it over him. She raised her perfectly shaped eyebrows, her full lips quirking up in an evil smirk.
“I don’t reckon they’ll find you till the train’s back in London,” she said softly, her voice too sweet for the words she was speaking. “See you around, famous Potter… or not.”
The three Malfoy’s turned then, laughing, and left the compartment with their trunks. Their laughter faded, and Harry was left alone and bleeding in the compartment.
Meanwhile, in the Great Hall, the sorting began.
“Now, this year we normally start with First Years,” Professor Dumbledore began, his hands held out open in welcome before him. “But this year, we have the pleasure of welcoming two new transfer students from Beauxbaton’s in for their Seventh Year at Hogwarts.”
Murmuring broke through the Great Hall at once. There had never been transfer students at Hogwarts, ever, and it was odd that they would decide to come only for their seventh year. However, as Dumbledore announced their name, the Great Hall was abuzz with noise at the stunning revelation.
“Cassiopeia Malfoy and Carina Malfoy!”
The two silver haired girls stood at the front of the line of first years, similar expressions of boredom on their faces. They were Malfoy’s, and they were absolutely gorgeous. Every student in the Great Hall had something to say about them, and the noise built up to the point where Dumbledore had to fire off a few sparks to get everyone’s attention once more.
“They will be sorted before the other first years, and then our sorting will commence as usual!”
“Malfoy, Carina.” McGonagall called, holding the Sorting Hat in her hands.
No sooner than the hat had touched head did it call out, Slytherin!, causing cheers to erupt from the serpent table. Carina wore an accomplished smirk on her face as she walked gracefully over to the Slytherin table, where she sat immediately with Draco and his friends.
“Malfoy, Cassiopeia!”
The hat touched Cassie’s head, and nearly everyone held their breath as they waited for the hat to immediately shout Slytherin. However, a few moments passed by, and then a minute, and then another, before the hat did finally shout out Slytherin. Again, cheers and applause broke out at the Slytherin table. Cassie kept her face neutral as she gracefully walked to the table, a light flush coating her cheeks. She sat next to her siblings, muttering something to the both of them.
The feast continued as usual, although nearly everyone was abuzz with the arrival of the Malfoy twins. What was their story? Why were they here? What were they like?
Only time would tell.

“Miss Black, wake up.”
Juliet was jolted from her sleep to the sound of her head of house’s voice, opening her eyes to see Snape looming over her menacingly. The sight caused her to jump to attention immediately, and she quickly sat up while eyeing him suspiciously.
“Professor Snape, why are you..” Juliet trailed off, very confused.
“Arthur Weasley has been injured,” Snape responded distastefully, motioning for her to get out of bed. “You are due in Dumbledore’s office with the rest of his children and Mr. Potter.”
“Is he alright?” adrenaline now waking her thoroughly, Juliet hurried off the bed, ignoring Snape’s grimace when he saw she was only wearing a shirt. She quickly tugged on shorts, grabbing her robe and her wand.
“I am unsure of his condition,” Snape was clearly annoyed now. “I had to get you quickly so that you could leave with the rest. Unless you want to be left behind, I suggest you come now.”
“What about my trunk, my owl?” Juliet questioned, following Snape out of the dormitory and down the steps. The castle floor was cold on her bare feet, and she cursed herself for not thinking of putting on her shoes.
“It will all find its way to you.” Snape responded dismissively, opening the door leading out to the common room.
The two walked swiftly to Dumbledore’s office in silence, Juliet’s heart pounding in her chest. How had Arthur been hurt? Was it something to do with the Order? It had to have been bad, for them to rouse the Weasley’s and her out of their sleep to leave the castle.
Snape entered Dumbledore’s office first, where Harry and the Weasley’s were gathered around the headmaster’s desk. Juliet followed suit, immediately drawing her eyes on George, who stood next to Fred with similar expressions of worry and fear on their faces.
“Oh Georgie, Freddie,” Juliet breathed out, gathering the tall boys in a group hug. They held back to her tightly for a moment, before they all pulled away from each other. “What’s happened?”
“Harry saw dad being attacked,” George answered, looking quite shaken. “We dunno if he’s going to be alright or not.”
“He will,” Juliet replied forcefully, taking George’s hand in her own. “He has to be.”
“You have all used a Portkey before?” asked Dumbledore, interrupting whatever George was going to say. Everyone looked at the old man, nodding as they reached out to touch some part of the blackened kettle on his desk. “Good. On the count of three then… one… two… three.”
Juliet felt a powerful jerk behind her navel, the ground vanished beneath her feet, her hand was glued to the kettle; she was banging into other others as all sped forward in a swirl of colors and a rush of wind, the kettle pulling them onward and then-
Her feet hit the ground so hard that her knees buckled, the kettle clattered to the ground and somewhere close at hand a voice said, “Back again, the blood traitor brats, is it true their fathers dying…?”
“OUT!” roared a second voice.
Juliet winced as she felt a pain in her feet; it seemed as though she had scraped them quite good after their harsh arrival into the gloomy basement kitchen of number twelve, Grimmauld Place. The only sources of light were the fire and one guttering candle, which illuminated the remains of a solitary supper. Kreacher’s loincloth swished around the corner leading out to the hall, and Sirius hurried over to them all, looking anxious. He was unshaved and still in his day clothes, and Juliet scrunched her nose as the scent of stale drink wafted towards them.
“What’s going on?” he said, stretching a hand to help Ginny up. “Phineas Nigellus said Arthur’s been badly injured-”
“Ask Harry,” said Fred.
“Yeah, I want to hear this for myself,” said George in a tight voice.
Without much thought, Juliet slipped her small hand into his large one, giving him a comforting squeeze. George held back tightly, his eyes trained on Harry with a hard look.
Everyone was staring at Harry, even Kreacher's footsteps on the stairs had paused. Harry looked overwhelmed for a moment, before he launched into his tale of seeing Arthur be bitten by a rather large snake. Juliet eyed him carefully, as she had noticed a look Ron had given him when he described the scene. What was the chosen one leaving out?
Fred and George immediately began demanding they head straight off to St. Mungos, which caused an argument with Sirius. He explained that Arthur had been hurt while on duty for the Order, and it was all too dangerous for them to have already got word before anyone else. It made sense to Juliet, but of course, Fred and George were forces to be reckoned with when it came to their family.
“We don’t care about the dumb Order!” shouted Fred, cutting Sirius off.
“It’s our dad dying we’re talking about!” yelled George.
“Your father knew what he was getting into, and he won’t thank you for messing things up for the Order!” Sirius said angrily in his turn. “This is how it is -this is why you aren’t in the order- you don’t understand- there are things worth dying for!”
“Easy for you to say, stuck here!” bellowed Fred. “I don’t see you risking your neck!”
“Enough,” Juliet stepped in, standing in between her father and the twins, who glared at her. “This is hard for everyone. Think of how Umbridge has been. Do you really think it would be wise for us to rush St Mungos when no one should know about your dad yet? Whose to say they wouldn’t assume he was working against the ministry, and they either make sure he dies, or fires him?”
Fred and George still looked mutinous, but Sirius shot her a grateful look. He glanced back at Fred, and for a moment it looked like he wanted to hit the ginger haired boy, but when he spoke, it was in a voice of determined calm.
“We just have to stay put, until we hear from your mother. Alright?”
Ginny was the first to sit down. Harry and Ron sat next, at the opposite side of the table. Juliet sat next to Ginny, wincing as pain flared up from her feet. The twins glared at Sirius once more, then George sat next to Juliet while Fred sat next to Ginny.
“That’s right,” said Sirius encouragingly. “Come on, let’s all…. Let’s all have a drink while we’re waiting. Accio butterbeer!”
He raised his wand as he spoke and a dozen bottles of butterbeer came flying onto the table from the pantry. They all drank, and for a while the only sounds were those of the crackling of the fire and the soft thud of their bottles on the table.
At some point, George’s hand had found Juliet’s once more. She ran her thumb consolingly over the back of his hand, resting her head on his shoulder. In turn, George wrapped his arm around her, keeping hold of her other hand. Juliet rested her other hand on his thigh, tracing circles over his pajama pants.
Harry seemed to be deep in thought, across the table from them, his brows furrowed and guilt written all over his face. Juliet frowned slightly. Had it not been for Harry, they would have had no idea that Arthur had even been injured. Harry shouldn’t feel guilty.
A flash of light appeared, and with it came a note from Molly, delivered by Fawkes. She told them all to stay put, and she was with Arthur now. It didn’t sound very hopeful, and that was clear to everyone in the room.
“Still alive..” George said slowly. “But that makes it sound…”
He did not need to finish the sentence. It sounded as though Arthur was hovering somewhere between live and death. Juliet held onto George’s hand tighter, and he laid his head on top of hers. Fred examined the letter himself, taking it out of George’s hand. Ron stared at the letter, as though he hoped it would bring him words of comfort.
At some point, Sirius suggested they all go to bed, but the murderous glares from the Weasley’s were enough to answer. They sat in silence around the table, watching the candle wick sink lower and lower into the liquid wax. They spoke only to check the time, wonder aloud what was happening, and reassure each other that if there was bad news , they would know straight away, as Molly was at St Mungo’s then.
Fred fell into a doze, his head sagging sideways on his shoulder. Ginny had curled up on her chair like a cat, but her eyes remained open. Ron had his head in his hands, and it was difficult to tell if he was awake or not. George kept his head rested on Juliet’s, the grip of their hands onto each other letting her know that he wasn’t asleep.
Finally, at ten past five in the morning, the door swung open and Molly entered the kitchen. Everyone half stood in their chairs, but Molly waved them back down, giving a wan smile. She informed them that he would be alright, he was sleeping, and Bill was sitting with him now.
They all let out shaky sighs and sounds of relief, and George, Ginny, and Juliet walked over to give Molly a hug. Sirius declared they had breakfast, and although he called for Kreacher, the house elf didn’t appear. He began breakfast himself, and Juliet slipped away to help him, Harry, of course, joined him.
Eventually, Molly came over, waving Harry and Juliet off, to begin breakfast. She told Sirius that they would probably be spending Christmas there with him, and he beamed brightly at the news.
Juliet felt the sudden urge to talk with her father, maybe vent about Umbridge, but before she could, Harry had taken him out of the room for a talk. Her face fell, and perhaps it was the mix of disappointment and lack of sleep, but she felt tears fill her eyes.
“Come on now darling, there’s no need for tears,” George appeared at her side, giving her a kind smile. “Let’s sit at the table while we wait for breakfast.” he reached a hand out, his thumb swiping at a tear that had escaped and rolled down her cheek.
Juliet swallowed hard, and followed George to the table with the rest of his siblings. Soon, breakfast was served and they all ate rather quickly, the nerves of the night having made them ravenous. Once they were done, and the table was cleared up, Molly ordered them all to bed. She told them that once they woke up, they would go back to visit Arthur.
The kids all trudged upstairs, Harry and Ron entering the same room they had spent the summer in. Juliet went to follow Ginny inside the room they had shared with Hermione, but George tugged on her arm.
“Would you mind..” George trailed off, suddenly looking shy. It was very unlike him. “Can you sleep in mine?”
“Oh,” Juliet paused, thoughts of Theo swarming her head. Well, he wouldn’t care anyways, would he? She and George always did this. Surely Theo wouldn’t mind, not that he would find out anyways. “Of course, Georgie.”
George smiled down at her, and she followed the twins into their room. Fred immediately fell into the bed, pulling the covers over his head, and it sounded as though he was asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.
Juliet laid in the bed first, shrugging her robe off before she did so. She was aware of George’s eyes on her, but she ignored it. After all, he was just waiting for her to get in bed so he could lay down. He was surely worn out from waiting all night for news on his father. That was all.
George slid in next to her, turning on his side to face her. Juliet peered up at him, getting lost in the many freckles that dotted his nose. He reached out a hand, swiping her hair out of her face, resting his palm on her cheek. Juliet’s heart quickened, and she glanced at his lips before looking at his brown eyes, glistening with an emotion she couldn’t decipher.
“Jules,” George’s voice was soft, full of exhaustion, and his eyes fluttered shut as he pulled her into his chest. “You’re so beautiful.”
“Georgie..” Juliet swallowed hard, looking at the face of her best friend. That didn’t sound like something you said to your best friend.
George’s lips parted, and he let out a deep breath. His face relaxed, making him look much younger than his seventeen years. He was asleep, no doubt ragged from the exhaustion of the night's turn of events.
For a long moment, Juliet stared at his face. He was so handsome in a ruggedly, manly yet boyish way. His smile could brighten the darkest day and his laughter would make you laugh yourself, especially because it normally followed a joke. This close, his lips in such proximity to her, she couldn’t help but wonder what it would feel like if she just inched further and pressed them to her own-
Merlin, what was she thinking? This was her best friend she was talking about. Besides that, he had Alicia Spinnet. And she had Theo, even though they hadn’t given each other a label yet.
Juliet screwed her eyes shut, and before long, she had fallen asleep in his embrace.
For the first time, Juliet woke up before George. It had felt like she had jolted awake, and she glanced around the room wondering what had caused it. Of course, the cause of it was Fred, who was tugging on a shirt with his trunk next to him.
“Afternoon, Jules,” Fred winked at her, looking at how she was wrapped in George’s arms. “Nice sleep?”
“Why’d you say it like that?” Juliet was immediately defensive, and despite not wanting to, she pulled out of George’s arms. She missed his warmth at once. “We always sleep together- not together, but in the same bed- oh for fucks sake, you know what I mean!”
Fred let out a roar of laughter at her words, grabbing his stomach as he fell onto his bed. He shook the frame, he was laughing so hard.
“Merlin, can you be any louder..” George sat up, his hair ruffled from his sleep. His eyes fell onto Juliet, who was an unflattering shade of maroon as she sat next to him. “What’s going on?”
“Freddie’s just being an arse,” Juliet grumbled, carefully climbing out of bed. “I see our trunks have come. I’ll have to get ready, I’m sure we’ll be leaving soon.”
“Alright, see you,” George gave her a half wave, sitting up and glaring at Fred. “Merlin's beard Fred, what is your problem?”
Juliet left the room before she could hear his response, nearly running into Ginny in the hallway. The redhead was brushing her wet hair, her dirty clothes bundled up in her arms.
“Good, you’re up,” Ginny nodded to her, walking into their room. “We’re leaving in about ten.”
Juliet dressed quickly, jeans and a hoodie, and walked downstairs. Molly was speaking to Sirius in hushed tones, and their conversation cut off rather quickly once she came down the steps.
“Hello, dear,” Molly smiled, looking out of place on her haggard face. “Good to see you.”
Nearly at once, everyone else came bounding down the steps. Within minutes, everyone except for Sirius was heading to St. Mungos. It was most unassuming, appearing to be an abandoned muggle shop, but it was the entrance to the Wizarding hospital.
Moody and Tonks had arrived with them, but they stayed out in the hallway while the others entered the room. Arthur was doing well, sitting up and reading a book, and he thanked Harry for saving him. Soon enough, Molly was herding the kids out of the room so they could speak privately with Moody and Tonks.
It was a pleasant visit, but Fred and George had the great idea of using their Extendable ears to listen in on their discussion. Juliet was huddled around with them, as they all fought to listen in on the conversation.
“The boy’s seeing things from inside You-Know-Who’s snake… Obviously, Potter doesn’t realize what that means, but if You-Know-Who’s possessing him, then there’s no telling what can happen. Dumbledore has to take whatever precautions he can.”
Juliet pulled away from the Extendable Ear, glancing over at Harry who was now white as a sheet. The others were looking at him too, giving him a fearful once over.
Was it possible Harry was being possessed?
They left back for Grimmauld Place shortly after. The mood was subdued, mainly due to the information they heard through their eavesdropping. Molly didn’t seem to notice much, and began prattling on about their Christmas plans and how they were going to be going to Diagon Alley the following day for the kids to do their Christmas shopping.
After they arrived back, Harry went up to take a nap, claiming he didn’t feel well. Juliet could assume it probably had more to do with what they had overheard. Fred and George headed upstairs to work on more ideas for their shop. She, Ginny, and Ron went into the living room, and began playing Exploding Snap.
“So, Jules,” Ginny nudged her knee with her own, a grin on her face. “Theodore Nott? Are things getting serious?”
Juliet blushed, suddenly wishing this conversation hadn't come up. “I wouldn’t say that, no. We haven't really given ourselves a label. Just kind of going with the flow.”
“You guys snog all the time. Seriously, I feel like he’s always touching you in some way. Plus, he carries your books for you. Literally. I didn’t even know guys did that.”
“Well, we haven’t really discussed if we were dating or not.” Juliet was starting to get very uncomfortable with the way the conversation was going now.
“What’s this I hear?” Sirius suddenly appeared in the doorway, his arms crossed and a smile on his face. “Have you and George started dating, Juliet?”
“No!” sputtered Juliet, her face heating up as she threw out her arms in protest. “Absolutely not! We’re just friends.”
Sirius cocked a brow, his eyes narrowing. “I’ve never looked at my friends the way that boy looks at you. If you aren’t talking about George, then who are you talking about?”
Ginny began to speak, but Juliet cut her off. “No one. No one, just drop it.”
She really didn’t want her father to know she was kinda but not really dating Theodore Nott. His father was a Death Eater, she was pretty certain, and her father would certainly blow a fuse if he knew she was even friends with him.
“Alright, alright, I have other ways of finding out. Perhaps I should go have a talk with the twins…” with that, Sirius left the room.
Juliet groaned, falling backwards on the floor. She grabbed a pillow off the couch, and shoved it in her face, letting out a frustrated scream. Ginny laughed from beside her.
“Blimey, girls are difficult.” Ron muttered.
Juliet could only hope for the best.

George had a weary look on his face, as he stood in front of his family, who was eagerly waiting to hear what George knew of the relationship Fred had hidden from the rest of them.
“Fred started fancying her in our fourth year, but it wasn’t until our final year….”
Fred Weasley wasn’t one to obsess over girls. That was normally left for his brother, George, the softer of the two. So why, he wondered, did he keep thinking of the firecracker that was Arista Malfoy?
The girl was in the same grade as the two boys, and just as well known. She was known for her snarky comments, and her displeasure towards anyone she deemed beneath herself. Yet, no one was able to determine how she judged others. It wasn’t entirely up to their blood purity, as it was with Draco, but rather something else. It was great speculation among Hogwarts students, as they were unable to figure her out. For example, Luna Lovegood was one of the people Arista respected. Cedric Diggory was another, as was Neville Longbottom and Blaise Zabini. Yet, she showed obvious dislike for Theodore Nott, Crabbe and Goyle, and Hermione Granger.
There were no similarities between the ones she liked or the ones she hated. No one could figure it out.
She was also insanely gorgeous. Her long platinum hair was always down, neatly flowing around her shoulders and never daring to get messy. Her ice blue eyes were framed by thick lashes, and her full lips mirrored each other perfectly. She had high cheekbones, a strong jawline, and a long elegant neck. She walked with grace and beauty, if you could even call it a walk; Fred preferred to call it strutting.
Fred really didn’t know why he was so enamored with the girl. She seemed to be wrapped up in her own little world, oblivious to nearly everything else around herself. It wasn't until Fred had a particularly bad detention with Umbridge, that the two of them interacted.
“You alright?” Fred glanced up from where he cradled his forearm, sitting next to Lee Jordan, to see Arista walking near him.
“Just detention,” Fred held up his forearm, showcasing the words carved into his skin. “Must respect authority, y’know.”
He wasn’t sure what to make of the girl. This was the first time she had spoken outright to him, aside from the few times the different houses had to participate in class together.
“Umbridge, hm?” She came closer, sitting down next to him. “I used near the rest of my dittany on a first year, but I think I’ve got some left. Sorry I haven’t got anything for the pain, I have to save that for the younger students.”
“You’re helping him?” Lee Jordan questioned warily, glancing between Fred and Arista.
Arista raised an eyebrow, pausing with the jar of dittany in her hand. “Well, I suppose if he doesn’t want me to, then I won’t.”
“I’ll take any help I can get,” Fred nudged Lee Jordan with his knee, shooting him a look. “If you really don’t mind.”
Arista smiled, and Fred swallowed hard at how it opened her face. “As long as you tell me what potion or spell you used to turn Draco’s hair red. Might need to use it in the future.”
Fred laughed, and launched into the explanation of how he had spoken with the house elves, and gotten Dobby to slip a hair changing potion into Draco’s dinner drink. By the time she had applied the dittany to his arm with careful fingers, he had promised to give her a small bottle of it for her own personal use.
And Fred did just that the next day, so he should have seen it coming when his hair turned green the following day during lunch. At first, he had assumed it was George, until he heard the laughter from the Slytherin table.
Arista had looked right at him, grinning, as Draco, Zabini, Flint, and Parkinson laughed openly at his hair.
“Nice Slytherin pride there, Weasley.” Arista called over, a brow quirked up as she kept her grin on her face.
From then on, he and Arista kept up a fairly solid prank war, with George or Flint joining in on occasion. It all came to a head, when one of Fred’s newest inventions ended up causing Arista’s cauldron to explode as Professor Snape was collecting a sample of her Potion to grade. The man had already been on edge since their constant pranks had began, and he angrily assigned them a months worth of detention cleaning various objects in his classroom.
At first, they had both been absolutely pissed at each other for ending up in this predicament, but soon, they began to have feelings for each other, although neither dare told the other.
“So, you and Angelina,” Arista had asked carefully, scrubbing at a particularly dirty cauldron. “Are you both still together?”
“Me and Angie?” Fred repeated, shaking his head. “No, we both realized after the Yule Ball that we were better suited as friends.”
Arista had nodded her head, her silver hair falling forward to cover her face.
“What about you and Flint,” Fred paused, keeping his tone even. “You two are awfully close.”
Arista burst out laughing, shaking her head as she gave him a look. “Absolutely not. I think Daphne would kill me, anyways. He’s a great friend, but he’s definitely not my type.”
“What is your type?” Fred asked casually, scrubbing at an already quite clean spot.
Arista was silent for a moment, before she spoke again, her voice much quieter and more serious. “Someone that my parents would never approve of.”
“Hm,” Fred felt his heart racing, and he stopped cleaning to look at her. He was surprised to see she was already looking at him. “My type is blondes whose parents wouldn’t approve of me.”
Arista’s cheeks flamed red, and she tilted her head up as she eyed him appraisingly. Her eyes flickered down to his lips, and he closed the space between them as he pressed his lips to hers.
“After that detention, the two tried to keep their relationship hidden,” George explained, shaking his head and crossing his arms. “I think she may have blown their cover when she shouted she loved him when we gave Umbridge our regards.”
“That would explain why she stopped showing up to the Great Hall for meals,” Ginny spoke up, rubbing a hand across her face. “Malfoy kept insulting her to his friends, but I never caught why he suddenly hated his sister. I figured it had something to do with their family.”
“So Fred just never said anything to anyone?” Molly questioned, clasping Arthur's hand in hers. “Why wouldn’t he tell us?”
“She’s a Malfoy, mum,” George shrugged. “Her brother is an utter twat and her parents are Death Eaters. He wanted to figure out a way to tell everyone while making sure she stayed safe from her family.”
“Well that didn’t quite work out, did it,” muttered Ron. “She showed up here looking dead.”
“Ronald.” Molly admonished sharply, swatting at his arm.
Everyone looked over to the hallway, where Fred’s footsteps could be heard. The tall redheaded twin stepped into the room, worry etched on his face. He looked as though he had aged several years within the short time that had passed from Arista showing up at their home.
“Have you got her settled in, Fred?” questioned Molly, walking over to him and wrapping an arm around his shoulder.
Fred nodded. He looked antsy, like all he wanted to do was go back up to Arista and be with her. George reckoned he probably did.
“We’ll have to let Dumbledore know about this,” Arthur informed them, already rising from his chair. “Harry’s due to come next week.” Arthur left then, and George could faintly hear him casting a Patronus charm.
Molly went to the kitchen, putting a pot of tea on. Ron still sat on the couch, eyeing Fred every now and then like he wasn’t sure what to make of his brother. George was looking at Fred, unable to imagine the turmoil his twin was in. Ginny looked tired, sitting on the armchair, her face scrunched slightly as though she were deep in thought.
“She said she refused him,” Ginny said tentatively, her eyes flitting to Fred. “What if he comes here looking for her?”
“He’s not going to touch her,” Fred shot out, his fists balling up at his sides. “Dumbledore is already putting in wards for Harry so he’ll be safe here. They’ll work for her too.”
“Hermione comes tomorrow,” Ron narrowed his eyes, his tone funny. “Malfoy doesn’t like her.”
“Her name is Arista,” snapped Fred, glaring at Ron. “There won’t be any problems with the two. If it’s that big of an issue, we can just relocate to the shop.” realization dawned on Fred, and he slapped a hand to his forehead. “Shit, the shop.”
“I can manage by myself tomorrow, Freddie,” George assured his brother, knowing he would want a day to help Arista acclimate to the burrow. “Don’t worry about it.”
Fred was already shaking his head. “I can’t let you fend for yourself, Georgie. I’ll just take the morning off, and be by around noon.”
“Only if you’re sure, Fred.”
“It probably would be safest for her here, Fred,” Molly said gently, coming back to hand Fred a cup of tea. “I don’t know that your flat would be well protected enough for her, especially if her brother knows the two of you are dating.”
“He might not know,” Fred rubbed his face harshly, shaking his head. “I dunno. I don’t know what to do.”
He sounded worn out, and hopeless. He took the cup from his mum, taking a deep drink. Tea always calmed the twins down.
“We’ll figure it out together,” Molly assured him, turning her attention to the others in the living room. “Alright, off to bed, the lot of you. We’ll have things figured out in the morning.”
She didn’t need to repeat herself. Everyone headed upstairs, Fred being the first to do so. George wasn’t the least bit surprised when he entered the room to see Arista in Fred’s bed, sitting up and hugging a pillow to her chest. George gave her a reassuring smile, but she didn’t seem to notice him. She looked haunted. That was the only way to describe it.
“Here, I’ve got the warmest blanket in the Weasley household,” Fred appeared in the doorway, his face softening as he looked at the blonde in his bed. “I don’t want your cold feet to keep me up all night.”
“Your snoring will keep me up anyways.” Arista looked up then, the ghost of a smile appearing on her face.
George climbed into bed, idly watching his brother as he covered Arista in the blanket. Fred then asked her several times if she was comfortable, before laying down next to her. George barely stopped himself from snorting, not used to seeing this side of his brother. Fred was never the type to be so gentle and whipped when it came to girlfriends.
He was unsure if it was because of her predicament, or just because of her. Only time would tell. He just hoped everything would turn out for the best.

my heart is buried in Venice
SUMMARY: she would rather die for love than live for fear. it appears that falling for draco malfoy puts that to the test.
PAIRING: draco x oc
WARNINGS: smut and a bit of descriptive torture (crucio)
hello again! this is angsty. that’s all i will say, so now you’ve been warned. let me know if you enjoy it. its a bit of a longer one! bold/italics symbolize the beginning/ending of a flashback. hopefully it isn’t confusing! also, sorry the summary is shit, im so bad at writing them!
Tumblr media
She thinks back to the first time she had seen Draco Malfoy. Not the first time they had met, immature beyond their current years, but the first time she had seen Draco.
The crying was unfamiliar to her, yet it brought stabbing pains to her chest. She hurried into the bathroom, expecting to find a scared first year. They always came to the bathrooms to cry, although they did normally avoid Moaning Myrtle. Still, with the current state of the world, she supposed nothing would be surprising at this point.
“It’s alright,” she stepped in cautiously, peering to see where the crying person was. “No one deserves to cry alone in the bathroom.”
With a thick, shaky sort of breath, the crying tapered off. She turned the corner to see a silver head of hair hunched over the sink, a boy with white sleeves rolled up on his arms. He wasn’t quick enough to yank the sleeves down, and she stopped short when she saw the unmistakable mark of Voldemort on his arm.
“Get out,” Draco Malfoy snarled, turning to half his face was visible to her. “Now.”
“I would hate to leave you alone like this,” she paused, holding her hands out in a sort of I come in peace way. “I may not be your preferred company, but I’ve been told I’m a great listener.”
It was almost unnoticeable, but Draco softened. It was clear in the sag of his shoulders, the loosening of his grip on the sink. She held her breath, and walked further into the bathroom.
“Or, I could offer out a distraction,” she leaned against the frame of the stall, her arms crossed on her chest. “I’ve also been known to ramble about nonsense more often than not.”
“And who exactly is it that said that?” Draco turned towards her, and sat on the floor.
She smiled, and promptly sat down on the floor with her back against the frame. “Well, I’m quite good friends with Susan Bones…” and she launched into a tale of the time when she and Susan had successfully distracted Professor Sprout for half a lesson, by asking about the mixing of magical plants with other muggle plants of certain… properties. They had been beyond surprise when Professor Sprout was quite knowledgeable on the subject herself.
To her surprise, Draco had engaged a bit in the discussion, asking questions and humming and hawing here and there to show he had actually been listening. He had subtly wiped his face dry during the conversation, and she had pretended not to notice.
“I’m quite surprised to find you here, you know,” she said gently, after their shared laughter had come to a stop. “I’m sure you have a million other friends in your house that would talk with you, rather than a Hufflepuff.”
“I haven’t got any friends,” he scoffed harshly, his face once again that hard mask he wore in the halls. “None that really give a shit. Certainly none that would-” but he cut himself short, shaking his head and staring at his hands.
“None that would want to know the reason behind having the mark,” she guessed softly, raising her hands when he lifted his head with a snarl on his face. “If it bothered me terribly, I wouldn’t be sitting here with you. I would have already gone to Dumbledore or someone.”
“So why are you here?” his face was twisted again, into the hatred and despair that seemed foreign on his beautiful features. “Waiting for the right opportunity to strike? Waiting for me to spill my secrets, so you can go running off to tell?”
“No,” she shook her head, answering honestly. “I’m here, because someone was crying and needed a friend.”
Draco’s shoulders sagged again, and he rested his head on his knees. The gentle trembling of his shoulders were the only sign that he was crying again.
In a move that was boldly out of her character, she scooted across the floor so she was beside him. The gentle tensing of his body let her know that he noticed her movements. Slowly, and then in one rushing movement, she wrapped her arms around him.
He began to shove her off at first, but then he sagged once more, and rested his head on her shoulder. Again, he cried, and she murmured reassuring words as he did.
A long time had passed before the embrace ended. Draco had stopped crying, and they had been sitting there in silence for a while.
“Would you like to talk about it?” she asked him quietly, when he pulled out of her arms.
He shook his head, his grey eyes looking at hers with a haunted gaze. “I can’t.”
It is those same grey eyes she stares at now. Not entirely grey, they have the most spectacular speckles of blue in them. A brilliant contrast to her honey brown ones.
“Is there any particular reason you enjoy the bathroom?” she asked Draco, setting her bag beside her as she sat on the floor next to him.
“I don’t enjoy the bathroom,” he muttered, his elbows resting on his knees. “It’s a filthy place.”
“So then why, when you disappear, do I always find you in the bathroom, either staring at the mirror or sitting on the floor?” she bumped his shoulder with her own, looking up at him through her lashes.
“Are you keeping tabs on me?” he turned his head to look down at her, his grey eyes dark.
Well, not entirely grey. The longer she stared at them, the most beautiful flecks of blue popped out at her. As she stared -admired, although she wouldn’t admit that to him- the bags underneath paired with his spiderweb veins of tender yellow and blue haunted her.
“Perhaps,” she paused, her lips parting for a moment. “Does that bother you?”
“It should,” he surprised her with the raw honesty in his voice. He was normally much more reserved. “But it doesn’t. I like the thought of you thinking of me.”
“Well, I think of you quite often,” she admitted, a bit breathless at the admission. “When you weren’t at dinner, I knew where to find you.”
“The bathroom,” Draco scoffed, turning away to hide the redness spreading across his cheeks. She smiled gently, as she didn’t miss it. She noticed just about everything he did. “Who would have ever thought a Malfoy would declare the bathroom as their safe space.”
“Put a few pictures up, might make it a bit more homey,” she suggested, resting her head on his shoulder. “Although I would make sure they’re all modest, don’t want Myrtle to take any for her personal use.”
“Oh, come on now,” he gave a rare smile, reminiscent of the smirk he used to wear all the time. “Myrtle isn’t that bad.”
She raised her eyebrows. “Wow, Draco, first the bathroom, now Myrtle? Clearly you’ve strayed from your noble path.”
Perhaps that was the wrong thing to say. The reaction from Draco was immediate, his mouth snapped shut with an audible snap, his jaw clenched, and his body went stiff. She lifted her head off his shoulder, apologies on her face, but he began speaking with an angry rush that startled her.
“I don’t think there’s anything noble left in me,” his hands were shaking now. “My life has become such a mockery of what I thought it would be, and there’s absolutely no way out. I don’t know what I’m going to do, and I need to figure it out now before he- before he kills me.”
Time seemed to freeze after he spoke. He had never even hinted before, at anything like that. They danced around the subject of his dark mark, neither wanting to bring it up. But now, for Draco to so openly admit that he was being forced to do something, more than likely pertaining to Voldemort, well. It was a breakthrough in their relationship.
“You can tell me anything, Draco,” her voice was barely above a whisper, and yet, it sounded through the empty bathroom like a siren. “Please, don’t feel like you need to bottle this up.”
Tears leaked out of Draco’s eyes, and she tentatively wrapped her arms around him. This time, he held her back even tighter, and shifted so that she was in between his legs. He cradled the back of her head gently, pressing her to his chest, and he rested his head on top of hers. Her heart began racing, and his did the same. She knew this because his heartbeat was echoing in her ear from being pressed against his chest.
“I have to fix the vanishing cabinet in the room of requirement,” he said the words quickly, in a rush. “To get the death eaters in the school. He.. he wants me to kill Dumbledore.”
“Oh, Draco,” her breath was shaky, and she closed her eyes. “I’m so sorry.”
The bathroom seemed deathly silent after that. Time seemed to stretch infinitely, until Draco shattered it once more.
“I’ve thought of jumping off the astronomy tower,” he breathed out, so lightly she almost didn’t hear. “Ending it all. But I’m too much of a coward to go through with it.”
“No,” she said quickly, pulling back slightly so she could look at his eyes. “You can’t do that I can’t- I don’t want to lose you.”
The quick admission slipped from her lips before she could stop it, and she wanted to swallow her words as fast as she said them. Draco shut his eyes, his cheeks glistening from the tears that had fallen. His jaw was clenched, a sure sign that he was upset.
“You can’t have me,” Draco’s voice was firm. “I’m not good for you. You’ll only get hurt, if they know I care for you.”
“You care for me?” that seemed to be the only thing her mind would let her latch onto, and she marveled at the fact.
“You could be killed.” his voice was less firm now, and he opened his eyes, grey staring into brown.
“I could be killed regardless,” she pointed out, nearly breathless. “There’s a war going on, Draco. I could die tomorrow, I could leave for holiday or summer break, and be killed. I don’t want to exist in fear. I want to live what little time I may have left in love.”
The words seemed to hang between them, the air heavy. Draco’s eyes shut briefly, and his arms tightened around her before he opened them again. As his head bent towards her, she closed the gap, placing her hands on his cheeks. He flinched at the touch, but melted into her as their lips progressed together.
Her eyes flick down to his lips now, the feeling of them so familiar yet so foreign at the same time. Liquid trickles down her forehead, towards her cheek, but she doesn’t move a hand to brush it away.
“Don’t you dare fucking hurt her!” Draco shouted at Harry Potter, flashing a streak of purple towards the Gryffindor. He pushed her out of the way, and she skidded to the floor.
Harry fired another spell at Draco, exploding the toilet next to her. The porcelain rained down on her, and she raised her arms protectively as the shards cut her skin. Draco shot another spell at Harry, and the bin behind him exploded.
She rose to her feet, nearly slipping on the water, trying to get her wand from her discarded robes on the floor behind Draco. Just as she had it in her hands, she turned, only to get hit with a leg locker curse from Harry. She fell, unable to brace herself, and knocked the side of her head on the sink, hot liquid spilling down her face as her head exploded in pain.
Draco turned to see her, and his face contorted in rage as he turned back to Harry. He cried, “Cruci-”
“SECTUMSEMPRA!” bellowed Harry, cutting off Draco’s unforgivable curse, waving his wand wildly.
She watched in horror through blurry vision as blood spurted from Draco’s face and chest as though he had been slashed with an invisible sword. He staggered backward and collapsed on to the waterlogged floor with a great splash, his wand falling from his limp right hand.
“No,” she choked out, the leg locker curse wearing off. “No, no, no!”
Her head spinning wildly, she looked down horrified as Draco’s white hands scrabbled at his blood soaked chest. She was vaguely aware of Harry falling to his knees next to Draco, and without a second thought, she wound her fist back and punched him with as much strength as she could muster.
“Fix him,” she screamed at Harry, who had a hand pressed to his nose. “Whatever you did, fix him now!”
“MURDER! MURDER IN THE BATHROOM! MURDER!”
Moaning Myrtle had appeared out of the toilets, and she was now floating around the bathroom wildly.
The door banged open, and Professor Snape burst into the room. She realized it was the only time she was happy to see the hook nosed man. He pushed Harry roughly aside, and drew his wand over the deep wounds Harry’s curse had made, muttering an incantation that sounded almost like song. The flow of blood eased, Snape wiped the residue from Draco’s face and repeated his spell. Now, the wounds seemed to be knitting.
She had his hand in her own, reaching up ever so often to wipe away the blood that kept coming from her head wound. When Snape had performed the counter curse for the third time, he half-lifted Malfoy into a standing position.
She stood up quickly, hearing Snape mutter to Draco. She steadied herself against the headrush she got from standing, a fresh wave of pain rolled through her head.
“Miss Cherrywood, are you able to accompany Draco to the nurse?” Snape eyed her, his face unreadable.
“Of course,” she quickly took Draco in her arms, steadying herself against the added weight. “What do I tell Madam Pomfrey?”
His gaze didn’t miss the way she looked at him, or he her. “Tell her exactly what happened. I am going to deal with Potter.”
She nodded, and hurried out of the bathroom as fast as she could. Draco was pale, much paler than she had ever seen him, which was saying something. He normally looked as white as their sheets.
They made it to Madam Pomfrey, who immediately took Draco into her care. As she watched Madam Pomfrey, she told her exactly what happened. Harry had started it, for no good reason. She left out the part about Draco nearly using an unforgivable, and as she finished recounting the story, she fell over from the sudden wave that went through her head.
Nothing got passed Madam Pomfrey. She was instructed to sit on the bed next to Draco, and once Madam Pomfrey was satisfied with her work on the silver haired boy, she fixed up her would and gave her a potion for the concussion she surely endured.
“You alright, Birdie?” Draco’s eyes were shut, and his voice was weak as he spoke.
“Don’t worry about me,” she slid off the bed, ignoring the instruction Pomfrey had given her before she left. “How are you?”
When her hand held his, he opened his eyes. He was so pale. She brushed his silver strands off his forehead gently, careful of the bottom half of his face that had been hit with that nasty curse.
“I feel as though I should be dead,” Draco paused, his voice low. “For whatever reason, that thought now scares me.”
“What do you mean, love?” the pet name slipped out of her mouth, and she hoped he didn’t mind. She brushed a thumb over his hand, relishing in the soft skin.
“I mean,” he turned to look at her, his face open and earnest. It reminded her of the day he had told her everything. That seemed so long ago now. “I was scared I was going to die without ever telling you how I felt.”
Silence laid over them like a blanket. She stared at him, lips parted, not knowing what to say.
“Birdie, I love you,” Draco broke the silence, shutting his eyes once more. “I shouldn’t. But I do. What happened today with Potter is just a fraction, a mere glimpse, of what would happen to you if he knew my feelings for you.”
“I don’t care, Draco,” the words flew from her mouth, a smile gracing her lips. “I don’t care. I love you. I am in love with you. I would always choose to live in love instead of fear.”
Draco opened his eyes again, and reached a weak arm up to press his lips to hers. Their eyes shut as their lips moved in sync as they had done many times before.
“I meant what I said,” she says the words quietly, looking into those familiar grey eyes. “I will always choose to live in love rather than fear.”
Laughter is heard around them, and she swallows her fear down hard. She vows to be true to her words, no matter the cost.
“Tomorrow,” Draco says quietly, turning to look at her. “It happens tomorrow.”
She let out a shaky breath, turning away from his gaze to the night sky. She had known this was happening, since he told her he fixed the damn cabinet. There was nothing to do. She couldn’t stop it. She wouldn’t help him. She would be fighting against him, come tomorrow night.
“I love you.” the words fall from her lips in a shaky voice, tears slipping down her face.
“Darling,” Draco took her in his arms, cradling her head to his chest. She was reminded of their first hug when he did the same. “I love you more than I had ever thought possible.”
They kissed again, this time a different passion behind it. They both knew this was a goodbye, maybe forever. He would leave with the Death Eaters tomorrow, after he killed Dumbledore. He would have blood on his hands and would formally join the enemy.
Their lips clashed and moved together, tongue touching teeth and lips touching skin. They grabbed at each other, daring to find where the other began and the other stopped. Gentle hands, harsh lips. It was a fight for love that wouldn’t matter in the end.
Draco laid her down on the cushy blanket they had been sitting on before, and paused. “Are you sure you want this, Birdie?”
“I want you, Draco,” she stared up at him, trying her best to memorize his every feature. He was so angelic. How could he be put up to the task he was given? “Only you, Draco.”
He pressed kisses to her neck, deftly unbuttoning her blouse. It slid off her shoulders, and he unhooked her bra next. For a moment, he stopped, staring at her exposed breasts for the first time.
“So beautiful darling,” he murmured, pressing kisses to her skin. “All for me.”
“Always for you.” she moaned back, as he nipped and sucked at her soft breasts.
His lips felt like fire against her skin, as he took a nipple in his mouth while his hand played with the other. She arched her back, wanting to be as close as possible to him. After a moment, she helped him slide his shirt off so she could touch his bare skin. Her nails dragged down his back as he sucked on her breasts, massaging the other with his hand.
He began pressing kisses to her neck, while his hands slid her skirt and panties off her hips, leaving her bare underneath him. He did the same to his pants, leaving his boxers on. He glanced up at her once more, and when she nodded, pressed his lips to hers and cupped her heat.
He ran a finger up her slit, kissing her neck once more as she moaned at his touch. She gripped his shoulders as he began pushing one finger in and out, before adding another one. She moaned softly as Draco sucked on her neck, his fingers sliding in and out of her. He began to rub small circles on her clit with his thumb, and her eyes fluttered shut.
“Draco,” she moaned out, pleasure coursing through her body as he kissed her breasts again.
“That’s it, darling,” he replied, pressing his lips to her once more before trailing back down to her neck. “Say my name.”
He pumped in and out of her faster, and she cursed as she said his name. She dug her fingers into his shoulders, and he hissed at the pain. He rubbed her clit faster, and she felt pressure building in her stomach. She moaned his name again, her eyes rolling into the back of her head.
“You’re so beautiful darling,” he praised her. “All hot and wet for me. Only for me.”
He picked up the speed of his fingers pumping in and out, and she could feel herself becoming close to coming.
“Draco, I’m gonna-” a moan from her throat cut her off.
“Yes Birdie, come on fingers,” he coaxed, his thumb again rubbing fast against her clit. “I want to taste you, love. Come all over my fingers.”
Moaning, her head tossed back, she came all over his fingers, grinding her hips onto them as she rode out her high. She caught her breath, and looked back at Draco, who placed his fingers in his mouth, sucking her juices off them.
“So sweet, darling,” he told her, his gaze heavy. “I didn’t expect anything else.”
He kissed her parted lips, and she tangled her fingers in his hair. She could feel his bulge pressing against her core, separated only by the thin fabric of his boxers, and she pulled away from him.
“Draco,” she gazed at him with lidded eyes. “I want you to make love to me.”
“Anything for you, darling.” Draco complied, slipping his boxers off and swishing his wand towards her stomach. She felt a slight tingle, and realized it was the contraceptive spell.
She glanced down at his hard cock, and swallowed hard as she realized how big it was. She watched as he lined himself up to her entrance, biting her lip.
His lips captured hers once more, before he pulled away to look at her for her consent once more. She nodded, and he pushed into her wet heat, groaning at how tight she was. She sucked in a harsh breath, her eyes watering. It was her first time, and the pressure was a lot to handle.
Draco noticed, and he pressed kisses to her neck, her cheek, her lips, as he let her adjust to his size. “Darling, you feel incredible. So fucking tight.”
“Can you..” she bit her lip once more, subconsciously grinding her hips against him.
He groaned at the feeling, and began slowly moving in and out of her. It hurt at first, but she slowly got used to the feeling, and pleasure began to take over. The feeling of him pushing in and out made her toes curl, and she moaned as he began to pick up the pace.
“You’re so wet for me,” Draco groaned, interlacing their fingers. “Feel so good, Birdie.”
“Draco,” she moaned, the sound of her name on his lips bringing pleasure to her. “Fuck, this feels so good.”
He brought one hand down to push her legs further apart, the motion making him hit deeper inside of her, effectively hitting her g-spot. His name fell from her lips in a string of moans, and he began to stroke into her faster.
“You’re such a good girl,” he groaned into her ear, pressing sloppy kisses to her neck. “Good little Hufflepuff getting fucked by a Slytherin.”
Her lips were parted, and her eyes were screwed shut as he thrusted into her, her breasts bouncing from the force he fucked her with. She again let out a string of moans, his name falling with every other word. His thrusts began to get more sloppy, and his hand reached down to rub circles onto her clit as he thrusted in and out. She began to feel the pressure building up again, and her body writhed underneath him as the pleasure took over her. He groaned, and with a few more thrusts, she felt him shudder, and a sudden wetness filled her cunt. Euphoria washed over her as he did this, and she realized she had come for the second time that night.
For a moment, Draco stayed inside of her, leaning down to press kisses to her neck once more before pulling out of her. He laid next to her on the blanket, and pulled her into his embrace.
“I love you,” he pressed his lips to her temple, his hand stroking her hair.
She looked up at him, their bare skin pressed to each other. “I love you too.”
The hopelessness of the situation hits her. There was nowhere to turn. They knew all about them now, but as she lets their memories wash over her for the final time, she smiles. She wouldn’t change a thing.
“Birdie, it isn’t safe for us to be together,” Draco murmured into her hair, his arms wrapped tightly around her. “They’ll hurt you.”
“I don’t care, Draco,” she looked up at him and smiled. “What more can they do to me? The Carrows Crucio me nearly once a week.”
“Because you can’t just let things be,” he responds angrily, moving away from her in frustration, his fingers gripping the railing for the astronomy tower. “You have to involve yourself.”
“I’m not going to let them use unforgivable curses on first years!” she yelled back, her voice echoing in the empty tower.
That paused both of them. She never yelled at him. He wasn’t even sure she could yell.
“Draco, I love you,” she began again, taking his hands in her own. “I love you so much. You have to understand that I can’t just let them tortue kids. If I have a chance to stand up to the Carrows, I will do that.”
“I know,” his shoulders sagged in defeat, and he sat down on the floor, his back against the railing. “I just wish you weren’t so stubborn. I wish I could protect you better.”
“If you did that, they would know about us,” she sat next to him, placing her head on their shoulder. “It would be so much worse for us.”
Draco nodded. They sat in silence for a while, her head on his shoulder, his fingers playing with her hair. Hogwarts was much different this year. Snape and the Carrows had taken over Hogwarts. The remaining members of the DA were still fighting against them, for what they believed in. Hoping each day Harry would come back, and everything would be okay again.
Neville and Ginny had taken over the DA. She helped out a lot more than she had expected she would. She felt that, maybe, part of her was guilty because she was deeply in love with Draco, and he played a part in the downfall of the school.
But he had no choice. He was the boy who had no choice. And she knew that.
No one knew about them. The only person who probably did, was Harry Potter. And at this point, if he ever were to think of her or Draco, he probably thought she wouldn’t still be with him. But it didn’t matter. Harry had much bigger things to worry about then who Draco Malfoy fancied.
“I want a nice little cabin in the woods,” Draco traced circles on her arm, his voice low. “Away from everyone. Away from everything. I want to grow our own garden. My mum always loved gardening. She has the most beautiful flower gardens, you would absolutely love it…” his voice trailed off, no doubt thinking of before. Before things got messy. Before life went south.
“What does the cabin look like, love?” she asked, tilting her head up to look at his angelic face. He smiles, placing a quick kiss to her forehead.
“It’s small, very modest,” he continued, looking at her face. “There’s a giant couch, soft as a cloud. Tons of blankets throughout, for when you complain it’s too cold even when it’s a beautiful summer day,” he pokes at her side, making her giggle. “A nice window with a desk in front of it. I’ll sit at the desk every day, and write. Bad, good, all of it. I’ll publish my own book, one day, about all the bullshit we’ve gone through.”
“The autobiography of Draco Malfoy.” she smiled, leaning further into him.
“Exactly,” Draco laughed, although there isn’t much humor. “My mother is the only one allowed over. She’ll want to help with the garden, but I’m not going to let her. I’ll be the one to do it. Hell, maybe I’ll even do it without magic. We’ll be hidden away in the trees, unable for anyone to find. There’ll be two bedrooms, one for us, of course, the largest one, and the other for…”
“For what, Draco?” she nudged him, wondering why he had trailed off.
Draco looked down at her, his hand grasping her chin. “For our children. Two, at least. No only child bullshit. I never want our children to be lonely.”
“You want kids with me?” she marveled at the fact, unaware that Draco would ever want kids, much less with her.
“Birdie,” he breathed, the smell of peppermint hitting her nostrils. “I want an entire lifetime with you.”
“Do it now, Draco!” Bellatrix shouts from behind her, her heels clacking as she strides forward.
She feels the woman dig her nails into her neck, and she can’t stop the whimper of fear that escapes from her lips. Her eyes plead with Draco, honey brown meets grey blue. He’s a mess, his eyes wild with despair, his arm shaking as he holds his wand up to her.
“Birdie..” her name falls from his lips, and she cries as she hears the goodbye in it.
“Please, Draco,” she pleads, and she’s unsure why. She wanted to die bravely, not groveling at someone's feet. “I want a lifetime with you.”
“Filthy scum,” Bellatrix snaps, forcing her to her knees. “Do it, Draco.”
His hand is unsteady. His wand is shaking.
“Crucio!” Bellatrix shouts, her wand digging into her neck.
Her every nerve ending is on fire. She screams and she screams, her voice harsh. The words carved into her skin hadn't hurt this bad. Her head being slammed into the ground repeatedly hadn’t hurt this bad. She feels like every bone in her body is being broken, just heal and break once more. It’s like she’s been dipped into a vat of acid, and her skin is peeling off.
She wishes for death.
The pain stops, but her skin twitches as her muscles remember the pain. She’s laying on the ground, moaning as tears slide down her cheeks. Her throat hurts so bad, and she wishes she could stop crying, but she can’t.
“Stand up, you pathetic bitch!” Bellatrix hoists her to her feet, again holding her by the back of her clothes. “Now, Draco!”
She blinks fast, clearing her vision to look at Draco. He looks so thin, so pale. The dark circles are back. Spiderweb veins of tender yellow blue are visible on his face. Yes he’s still so breathtakingly handsome as he once again holds his wand to her.
“Always for you,” the words slip out of her lips as she stares at the man she loves. “Only ever for you.”
“Shut up!” Bellatrix slaps her, and the pain barely registers from the amount she’s already been through. “I’m not asking you again, Draco.”
“Let her stand on her own,” Draco demands, his voice cracking. “I won’t kill her while you hold her.”
Bellatrix steps away then, a cackling laugh coming from her lips. Without the support of the wicked woman, she sways and nearly falls, but catches her balance just in time.
“I would rather die in love, than live in fear,” she says softly, under her breath, the words coming out funny as her jaw is still twitching from the cruciatus curse. “For you, I would die a thousand times over.”
She shuts her eyes then. She knows what’s coming. In some way, she always knew this was where they would end up. Perhaps not with him holding the wand to kill her, but with her dying because she wasn’t afraid to love him.
“Birdie,” Draco says in the voice that’s meant only for her, and she smiles, happy to hear it one more time. “I love you. I’m sorry.”
“Avada Kedavra!”
There is a flash of green.
