Weekly Training Log: Jan 27-Feb 2
It’s been a hard week!  Driver’s ed Monday Tuesday AND Wednesday, on top of work all day.  Proud to have mostly stuck to my training plan.
Monday:  Kettlebell Workout (S&S)
10 sets of 10 Kettlebell swings (2 handed), 25 lbs (10 min 42 sec)
5 sets of Turkish Getups (1 each side per set), also 25 lbs (23 min 29 sec)
Core work finisher:
3 sets of 10 Hip bridges, 20 lb barbell
10 Russian Twists, 25 lbs
1-minute plank (elbows and toes)
Tuesday:  Rest day.  I’ve been doing driver’s ed this month and this week is the hardest week scheduling-wise, so in the interest of being able to live life on Wednesday, I took a rest day and did some errands instead.
Wednesday:  Kettlebell Workout (S&S)  Gym was super quiet.  AWESOME
10 sets of 10 Kettlebell swings (2 handed), 25 lbs (10 minutes on the nose)
5 sets of Turkish Getups (1 each side per set), also 25 lbs (21 min 05 sec)
Core work finisher:
3 sets of 10 hip bridges, 40 lb barbell;
10 Russian Twists, 25 lbs,
1-minute plank (elbows and toes)
Thursday:  Work Lunch Outing.  We have a colleague taking a permanent job in another department.  Hopefully, I’ll still see her at the gym at lunchtime :)
Friday:  Kettlebell Workout (S&S)  Holy shit, the gym was crazy busy today.  Hard to find a spot to work, and the kettlebells I wanted to use were in use- that bumped me up in weight for my swings (good I think- I think my swings were both more challenging AND better!) and down in my getup then accessory work (not the worst thing ever, 25 lbs felt a little shaky after a few sets on Wednesday)
10 sets of 10 Kettlebell swings (2 handed), 30 lbs (11 mins 29 sec)
5 sets of Turkish Getup (1 each side per set), 20 lbs (20 mins 37 sec)
Core work finisher:
3 sets of 10 hip bridges, 40 lb barbell (upper body elevated on a bench for variety);
10 Russian twists, 20 lbs,
1-minute plank (elbows and toes)
WEEKEND:  I should try and do S&S at least once over the weekend, and maybe also video my swings and my getups for some feedback before I film for my hardstylefit certification.
In other news, the baby is sleeping super well this past week and Fitbit agrees that I am also sleeping well!  So that’s awesome.  Hopefully, that stays like that for a while at least.
My group fitness classes re-start in February so that’s good.  Before the end of that session, we should have moved closer to my venue which will make my evenings much easier for many logistical reasons :)

Oooh that looks good. I am still trying to figure out some good tofu recipes (especially for weekly lunch prepping). I will have to try spicy peanut- think that is the heat and flavour profile I need to get through the rest of the winter!

Spinach salad with leftover rice, spicy peanut tofu, hemp hearts and pumpkin seeds.

Week in review:  Jan 13-26
Happy New Year!  I took a few weeks to recover from sore shoulders from carrying my super heavy baby, to see if the gym would thin out a bit (no shade towards resolutioners- I was one once- but it was definitely crowded in there!) and I also spent some time re-discovering old physical passions, and working on an online certification.  Here we go!
Jan 15:  Ballet
youtube
Not to be too dramatic, but I haven’t just danced for a long time, and certainly not on my own terms.  Dance (especially ballet) had become an obligation to somebody else for me, and I kind of felt like this somebody else was over-stepping.  I think I’ve now had a falling out with this person (they haven’t spoken to me in a long time and I feel very confused, frustrated, angry, and manipulated by our last communication).  I thought I had too much poor sentiment wrapped up in ballet but I did ballet for a lot longer than I did ballet out of obligation for/with this person, so it turns out going to the dance studio during open hours and putting on my headphones and queueing up a barre sequence on my phone was just fine.
Jan 16:  Ballet (again) and Pilates
youtube
So the next day I went back and did another one.  This one was much harder, haha.  I also did a post-partum pilates routine afterwards.  The frustrating part is that the studio isn’t super well maintained, so there’s a lot of clutter, and the floor isn’t kept nice.  But I am definitely going to keep ballet-ing.  I don’t know that I want choreography or dance for expression in my life exactly, but I love a good ballet barre.
Jan 24:  Kettlebell
S&S:
10 sets of 10 2 handed kettlebell swings, 25 lbs
5 sets of Turkish Getups (1 each side per set), 20 lbs
Why the big break in activity from Jan 16 to 24?  In part, lots of crazy life stuff. But also, I spent what is usually my workout time (my lunch break) working on an online course.  Like I think I’ve mentioned previously, I impulse-bought the Hardstylefit online level 1 certification course as a Black Friday deal.  I figured worst case Ontario, it’s good for my own knowledge which would be fine.  I completed the online course work, and have to record my assessment video by the end of February to fulfill their requirements for them to call me level 1 certified.

So that’s pretty cool :)  I’ve submitted my certificate saying I finished the coursework for CEC’s to my fitness instructor certifying body.  Coincidentally, they are running a Kettlebell instructor add-on to their group ex and personal training certs the end of February, so I’m registered for that too.
So it’s been a busy couple of weeks, and the next few weeks will be busy too, but that’s good.  Think I will get back into a regular routine now, so more regular updates should turn up.  I’ll have to post some Kettlebell form check videos to help me work on those skills for my evaluation video.  I’d also like to do a ballet barre sequence once or twice a week going forward.  :)
