Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)

exactly!!! I study English Literature and while many people in this field are elitist fucks I believe that is completely in contrast to what really is going on.

there are many versions of what the oral stories are like and there's no way to fix them into a linear narrative, even with what homer compiled. these poets compiled and wrote them down and made additions to have something to back their agendas. aenid was literally commissioned to Virgil by the Augustus to use for patriarchal propaganda. They did not give a shit. Why should you?

yesterday I read about the part telemachus and penelope become immortals and she marries telegonus and telemachus marries circe, and looked it up and saw that it originates from only one poem, and I decided to ignore it. because it doesn't make sense to me. it is theorized to be done to bring penelope down from this saint like perfect devotion and loyalty and normalize her, and I don't fuck with that so...

The EPIC Circe Saga making Odysseus' love for Penelope what ultimately saves him from Circe just healed a massive hole in my heart.

Because YES the Odyssey like all of Ancient Greek Mythology has a misogynist streak a mile wide, but that primarily comes down to the written text, preserved by Athens--no one hates women more than Athens--and translated into English for centuries by sexist men who wanted to see a powerful woman tamed by a man.

But the Odyssey and the Iliad come from ancient oral tradition. They were told and retold and everyone, EVERYONE, got a say in how to interpret them. Why can't we?

Why can't the story be: Odysseus' love for his wife and his family is what saves him. Hermes tells him the only way to protect himself from Circe is to seduce her. Agamemnon, who lied and betrayed his wife, warns him that trusting women will get him killed. But Odysseus doesn't listen. Instead, he passes Circe's test of character where others failed. He trusts Penelope and does right by her and she does the same for him. The secret of their marriage bed serves as a symbol of loyalty and commitment upheld by them both, not just Penelope.

Why can't it be that? Greek Myth is already brutal, why do we have to willfully make it more so?

Have you ever wondered of what were fili’s last thoughts? Like obviously he was thinking of kili and Thorin and how at least he gave his brother a chance to survive, but i like to think that he thought of his Amad the most.

Being the firstborn wasn’t easy especially considering he’s Thorin’s heir and Dis was one of the only people that made him feel like all that didn’t matter, he was just Fili, her son, her confidant (especially after her husband’s death), her partner in crime.

He died regretting many things and one of these was being forced to leave his amad behind

when they were perceiving the world for the first time ever, a block of unmonitored internet got shoved into their hands and don't talk like we don't know what unmonitored internet can do to a person. we got our issues with our controlling judgemental parents and their lack of understanding. gen alpha has a lack of attention and control. discipline is given by parents and they are not responsible for that. they were mostly raised by influencers whereas we were raised by youtubers. assholes of the internet vs weirdos can explain the state we are all in right now. also economy is in shambles but what they see is that everyone HAS TO have everything at the same time, and they grow up with this mentality.

also if being a child/teenager is a crime, we are all guilty. by the time they are having their angsty era we will have our jobs and lives (if it's even possible) and DO NOT compare your life with them we know being 14 sucks more than corporate overlords

I must not mock Gen Alpha. Mocking Gen Alpha is the mind killer. Mocking Gen Alpha is the little-death that brings total generational solidarity obliteration. I will engage with Gen Alpha lovingly. You know how companies used to make flour sacks with pretty flower patterns on them because mothers would make dresses out of them for their daughters? We should bring that back.
