Cholesterol Cholesterol is a waxy fat like substance that’s found in all cells in our body, We have heard Cells are made of fats and so our body needs to have Cholesterol in optimum levels, as it plays a vital role in making hormones, Vit D3 absorption, and substances that help in digestion. Here I want to keep it very simple for all to understand so will not get into mentioning Chemical formula or the density etc. To know the levels of Cholesterol, the Lipid profile test is performed that gives the reading of Total Cholesterol HDL-C (High Density Lipoprotein) LDL-C (Low Density Lipoprotein) VLDL-C (Very Low-Density Lipoprotein) TG (Triglycerides) These are the types of cholesterol and here is where we say a good cholesterol or a bad cholesterol. There are parameters range to know your cholesterol and that gives idea about how well is your body doing internally. The ratio of the HDL and LDL too is mentioned in your pathology report and so when we see the reports, we say a complete lipid profile test to be performed, as only the number of total cholesterols does not define if the body is doing good or not so good.
