Nishaant Sanghavi, CEO of his Energy company in Toronto. I still remember the time when I was working in Dubai and initiated him to strength training. Got him a set of dumbbells while he was still in school. And he hasn’t looked back ever since. Father of 3, CEO, hectic travel schedule and yet trains regularly at 0530am!!! #tricepsdips Functional anatomy The triceps (primarily the lateral and medial heads), sternal and clavicular heads of the pectoralis major, anterior deltoid, scapulothoracic, and core musculature, all work in accord during the movement. The scapulothoracic muscles collectively stabilize the scapulae during the movement, especially as the descent is commenced. The core resists any movement, specifically lateral sway, which occurs right off the bat in lesser experienced lifters and weaker individuals or late in the set when fatigue begins to set in. The pectoralis and anterior deltoids provide the initial push at the bottom while the triceps, along with the aconeus, take over the movement when the elbow approaches 90 degrees of flexion, helping to lock the elbows out to complete the movement. parallel dips have been demonised, arguing that they destroy the shoulder and elbow joints. While there’s some validity to the argument because parallel dips aren’t advised for individuals such as throwing athletes, those with anterior shoulder instability, and pre-existing elbow pain. However, they shouldn’t be entirely steered clear of, especially by healthy lifters and athletes. The #gluteusmaximus is not only the largest buttock muscle, but the largest muscle in the human body, and perhaps the most under rated and under utilised. Its main responsibility is #hipextension . They are typically a muscle that do not fire adequately and are inactive most of the time, mainly due to lifestyle and /or injury. One of my favourite exercises, The barbell hip thrust is a loaded resistance exercise which utilises the #posterior chain hip extensor muscles, such as the glutes and also hamstrings. The effects of the hip thrust can range from an increase in gluteus maximus size (hypertrophy) to an increase in strength and power. It can empower optimal hip extension for an athlete, which many exercises don’t.
