Life During the Apocalypse
Hello darlings! Hope everyone is doing well… Hope you all are safe, healthy and not going too crazy if you are in self isolation. Since I’m stuck in the house with quite a bit of extra time, I’d like to try to blog a bit more than usual. I thought it would be kind of fun to share with you what I have been up to at home, so enjoy: The Day in the Life of a Quarantined Teen.🙃
Remote school
First for the dull stuff. My university moved to remote learning the week of March 6th, and while they originally said it would be “until further notice”, they have since announced that it will be like this for the rest of the semester. It’s definitely more boring than going to class, and I miss going to school and seeing people, but I don’t mind it that much. It’s kinda funny, ’cause I was homeschooled for most of my life, up until college, so doing this is like going back to the old days of being homeschooled. 🙂 Right now I’m actually on Spring Break, so this week I’m mainly just chillin’.
What I’ve been watching
I’ve been meaning to get Disney+ for eons now, but never got around to it. My sister and I decided that hey, what better time than now? The very first thing that we watched was High School Musical… Don’t judge me.😂 Somehow I had gone through life never having watched this iconic piece of pop culture, but I decided it was time to amend that. What can I say: it is equal amounts completely terrible and utterly amazing.
Finally watched The Mandalorian as well, which is really, genuinely good. I feel so-so about most Star Wars stuff – I don’t dislike it, but I don’t love it – but damn, I got into this show immediately. The way that they’ve made it like a Western? So good. The characters, the visuals, the storyline… 👌🏻 And yes, I would die for Baby Yoda.
Once we finished that season, we began on Agent Carter, and we just finished the first season last night. I felt so-so about it for like, the first two episodes, but after that I got really into it and like, damn, it’s really good! Two thumbs up from me.
Other than Disney, the only other thing that I’ve watched recently is The Miseducation of Cameron Post. It’s been on my want-to-watch list for a while now, and the other day my school gave me access to a site with a bunch of free films on it, one of which was this movie, which I was really excited about. Fuck, it was good. Really hit hard, Chloe Grace Moretz was incredible, as was the rest of the cast, just a really powerful story of course. I liked the indie feel of the whole thing… Sometimes you can just tell, you know? The 90s aesthetic was also great.
What I’ve been listening to
Being stuck in the house has giving me lots of opportunity to listen to music basically all of the time, so let me share some of the stuff I have been loving right now:
Conan Gray’s Kid Krow – I am really loving this album. It is packed with bops, as well as some fantastic sad-boi songs. I’ve liked Conan’s stuff for a bit now, but in a rather passive way… Now I would say that my fan-ness (not a word, I know) has been solidified.
Ed Sheeran – let me introduce you to the little underground indie artist I’ve recently discovered. Haha. It’s kinda funny that I’ve gotten so into Ed lately, cuz I mean, of course I’ve listened to his stuff for a while now. But like, I guess I’ve never delved very deep into his discography? But lately I’ve been listening to the entirety of each of his albums, and I’m a little obsessed. Guess I should have believed the hype sooner, huh?
Alec Benjamin – someone else who I’ve been into for quite a while, but who I’ve been listening to even more lately. His songs have made their way onto “Music of the Month” a couple times already, and I’ll tell you right now that he’s on there this month, too. 🙂 I don’t think he has a single bad song. I have tickets to see him in May, provided corona doesn’t fuck that up, and I’m really excited!
Lauv’s Modern Loneliness – bops. bops. bops. What else can I say? Bops.
Foster the People – ok, this band has such nostalgia for me. Torches was like, all that I listened to in like 2012/13. I hadn’t really listened to them lately, and hadn’t really explored their more recent stuff. But the other day I put on their Spotify playlist and had a dance party to them all afternoon and it made me so fucking happy.
What else I’ve been up to
Spending way too much time on the internet – gotta go ahead and get this one out of the way. I’d love to say that I’ve been super productive and learned a ton of new things and been really creative, but if I’m entirely honest, what I’ve really done is wasted a ton of time on YouTube/Tumblr/TikTok.😬
Drawing – I have gotten some stuff done though! I haven’t used this time for art as much as I’d like, but I’ve been sketching some, and also been playing around with a drawing app… I’ve always been a pencil-and-paper person, but doing it digitally is kinda fun!
My latest project? A vine compilation, of course.😂 Here is the beginnings of it:
Tumblr media
Making music – again, not as much as I should be, but I’ve been playing the guitar and singing quite a bit. I’ve been doing it in a very relaxed, just-singing-what-i-want-to kind of way, which is nice. I guess I’ll use this opportunity to plug my Soundcloud (which I rarely post on, oops.)
Working out – I always exercise pretty regularly, but I’ve decided that this is the perfect opportunity to ramp it up a bit. My family and I have been going on walks every day, since that’s the only way we can get out, and I’ve been doing the Chloe Ting 2 Week Shred Challenge. It’s fucking tough, but I’m very excited about getting in shape.
Texting for the Bernie Sanders team – this has been fun! It’s a super-easy way to get involved in a campaign… I’d love to say I could make calls, and I hope to eventually, but it makes me really nervous. But texting is something anyone can do! Basically all campaigns have moved online, so if you have some extra time on your hands, get involved from home, either in a political campaign or something on the activism side of things! You can text, call, do stuff with social media… do it!
Catching up with friends – this one is smaller in terms of how much I’ve been doing it, but I’d just like to remind you that this is a great time to text or call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. I know I often feel weird about just contacting someone out of the blue, but in a strange time such as this I think it is the perfect opportunity to check in with someone and see how they are holding up. Even though we can’t see each other in person, we’ve got to stick together in this tough time and keep up our relationships in a long-distance fashion.
Final thoughts
Okay, that’s all for now! It’s looking like this whole situation is gonna last for a while, so maybe I’ll make another one of these in a few weeks and let you know what else I’ve been up to! I’d just like to end with a little thought:  if you are stuck at home and bored and going a little stir-crazy, please remember that we are privileged to be in this situation. There are some people for whom this means that they are out of work, desperate, scared. There are others who are older or immunocompromised who know that getting the virus could be a matter of life or death. Others are not able to work from home and have no choice but to go out every day and risk getting infected. And others have been forced to go home and be quarantined with abusive family members. Even though this is tough for everyone, if your main problem is that you are bored, make sure you put it into perspective and be grateful that that is your biggest worry.
I hope that didn’t sound preachy, but I just think we have to remember that it could be a lot worse. Now, stay safe, stay healthy, and for fuck sake, don’t go out unless you have to. ❤️

What I’ve Been Watching
Hello everyone! If you read my comeback post, you know that I promised a round-up of  the movies I’ve seen so far in 2020. This post has taken WAYYYY too long for me to get around to writing, but now I’m self-isolating and have plenty of time on my hands, so hopefully I should be writing more! So let’s get into it. Before I talk about films from this year, I’ve got to sneak in my thoughts about my absolute FAVORITE film of 2019…
Knives Out – 5/5
I cannot tell you how much I love this movie. I’ve seen it three times in the theater since it came out! I knew that I wanted to see it the moment that I saw the trailer, and I had heard good things about it, but I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. Everything about this movie is just so. Damn. Good. The characters, the storytelling, the aesthetic setting and costume design… perfection, perfection, perfection. The cast, of course, is incredible. This movie is just so much FUN, and I’m obsessed. If you haven’t seen it already, GO SEE KNIVES OUT GODDAMMIT!!!
Now for 2020…
Richard Jewell – 4/5
Tumblr media
I went back and forth on whether to give this a 3.5 or a 4, because its been a minute since I watched it, and honestly, I had kind of forgotten about it. Upon reflection, I’ve decided that is because of how many really good films I’ve seen so far this year, not because Richard Jewell is a forgettable movie. I really enjoyed it at the time… it has just gotten overshadowed by things I’ve watched since. The performances are great; Paul Walter Hauser was not someone I was super familiar with before this film, but he seriously impressed me as the titular character. It is just a very solid film about an important story that I really should have known more about since it happened in my home state.🤷‍♀️
Just Mercy – 4/5
Tumblr media
Oh boy, bring some tissues for this one. What can I say, this is just a really good movie: its a well-told story of a real-life issue, its hard-hitting and tear-jerking af, the performances are great (Michael B Jordan, man🙌🏻), its just super solid all around. If you don’t cry your eyes out watching this, then sorry, you have no heart.
1917 – 4.5/5
Tumblr media
Whoa. Okay, this is an absolute must-see. Holy shit, this movie is something else. As you have probably heard, this movie is shot and edited in a way that makes it look like it was one long take. Not only is this seriously impressive, but it is also effective as hell. There is never a break from the intensity of the film, and you will be on the edge of your seat every second (I’ve seen it twice, and I was completely on edge the entire time even during the second watch.) That’s not the only thing that makes ‘1917’ super impactful, though. The actors are fantastic… I was really impressed by George MacKay. This movie really doesn’t hold back; it is an honest, horrific, emotional depiction of war, and wow, it really isn’t like any war movie I’ve ever seen before.
Like A Boss – 3/5
Tumblr media
Okay, time for a drastic change of tone from the last few movies! Not gonna lie, I went into this movie with basically no expectations, as I had heard nothing good about it. But you know, I liked it better than I thought I would. It was funnier than I expected, though not all the jokes hit, and it was overall incredibly silly. But it’s also a fairly sweet story about female friendship. I went to see it with one of my own female friends, we had the theater to ourselves, we laughed at all the stupid parts and we had a good time. So yeah, I didn’t hate it.😅
Dolittle – 3/5
Tumblr media
This movie was… weird. Not necessarily a bad weird, but like, really, really bizarre. It’s hard to explain exactly why without giving plot points as examples, but I’ll tell you that there were numerous times throughout the movie where I turned to my sister and said “what the fuck??” I think that there were some drugs involved in the making of this film. On the plus side, I kinda enjoyed it. There were some parts that were genuinely funny, and overall it was something fun to watch with my younger siblings. My 12-year-old brother loved it, and that’s the real test, isn’t it?
The Gentlemen – 4.5/5
Tumblr media
Ok, this movie was fucking GOOD. Not gonna lie, when I first saw the poster and trailer for this film, my first thoughts were, god, do we really need another cool-guy crime comedy with an almost entirely white male cast? The answer is no, no we don’t. But damn, if this isn’t a great movie anyway. It surpassed my expectations in every way… I loved it. The humor is not going to be for everyone; it is very British and often extremely crude, but I fucking cried laughing, it was hilarious. The laughs alone were enough for me to like this movie, but there is more to it than that. The plot is engaging, and although I’ve heard some people complain it was slow or too hard to follow, I liked it and enjoyed the story-telling elements. I also found myself caring way more about the characters than I thought I would. Oh, and there are some gorgeous cinematic elements to it as well. Overall, great movie. I guess I need to go and educate myself on some other Guy Ritchie films.
Birds of Prey – 4/5
Tumblr media
So, I’ve given this a 4, but this is another one that I debated giving a 3.5. I had wanted to see it again before I reviewed, but the coronavirus screwed that plan up. I decided to round up, however, because my overall feeling about this movie is that I enjoyed it. It isn’t perfect… There were some odd plot decisions, and some so-so action, but you know, I liked it. It’s just FUN. The characters are all bad-ass, the music is on point, it’s funny, it’s colorful, it’s just really enjoyable. The cast are all great, and I thought Ewan McGregor made a great villain. Also, in amongst the mediocre action there were some really great scenes (small spoiler: I’m obsessed with Harley breaking people’s legs.) Like I said, I feel like I need to watch it again to really decide how I feel about it, but overall it’s a thumbs up from me.
The Photograph – 3/5
Tumblr media
Huh, this movie was an odd one. I really wanted to like it, and I mean, I didn’t dislike it, but I just wasn’t feeling it, you know? I confess, romance is not really my genre (I like a good rom com, but just straight up romance? Meh), but I just found myself completely uninterested in the main couple. If you haven’t seen this movie, the plot is split between the relationship between Michael and Mae (LaKeith Stanfield and Issa Rae), and flashbacks to the 80s that focus on the relationship between Mae’s mother, Christina (Chante Adams,) and a man named Isaac (Y’lan Noel.) When it came to Michael and Mae, I just did not care at all whether or not they ended up together. I didn’t give a shit about their relationship throughout the entire movie. I liked their characters individually, but together I just wasn’t feeling the chemistry. Now, with the other couple, Sara and Isaac, I actually cared a lot more. I looked forward to the parts that would focus on them, and was annoyed when the film would jump forward to the present day again. I dunno, I mean, I didn’t hate it. It was funny in places and moving (to an extent) in others. The storyline outside of the romance was alright. I just didn’t love it.
Parasite – 4.5/5
Tumblr media
Ok, usually I only do reviews for films I see in the theater, but I had to make an exception for this… I had some friends came over and we watched it from my couch, but only because nowhere nearby was showing it. If you haven’t heard of Parasite, you’ve probably been living under a rock. After it scooped up 4 Oscars, everyone was talking about it, and rightly so. Honestly I’m not gonna give it a proper review, because you just. Need. To. Watch. It. Basically, the first half is genuinely really funny, and then it slowly gets darker and darker, and holy fuck, I did NOT see that ending coming. The story, the acting, the symbolism, the cinematography, the setting… All fucking amazing. Watch Parasite, people. Just do it.

This bitch is back!
Well, well, well, long time no posts, huh? Ya girl is back, folks. Please hold the applause.
I started this blog because I was studying journalism, so it seemed like the appropriate thing to do. It was fun for a bit, but it started to stress me out a little, especially doing album reviews, so those really fell to the wayside. After I finished the school year, I kind of gave up on blogging; I just couldn’t really be bothered.
But lately I’ve been thinking that I kind of miss it. I watch a totally normal amount a crap ton of movies, and I enjoy writing reviews for them, even if no one really reads them. I also miss doing my ‘Music of the Month’ list. So I’ve decided to bring this blog back from the dead and do some writing!
For my first post back I’ll give you a little life update. So, when I started this blog I was beginning a new chapter; I had just moved to spend most of my time in the UK, and was going to university there to get a degree in Music Journalism. I did that for a school year (October 2018 to May 2019,) and it was quite an experience, but honestly, it just wasn’t working for me (I’m not gonna go into reasons right now, there were quite a few.) So I decided to come back to the US and take some time off to figure out what the hell I wanted to do with my life.
For the Summer and Fall semesters of 2019, I worked a lot (I work at a movie theater, which is pretty awesome) and just kinda chilled out. Also, in September, I started an internship with a congressional campaign (I’m not going to say who for privacy reasons, but she is a Democrat who flipped her seat in 2018 and is running for re-election in 2020.) That has been so awesome, and maybe later I will go into more detail about what it involves. But it has been really cool, I have met some great people and had some awesome opportunities, including marching in the city’s Pride Parade in October. 🙂 I’m hoping to continue with the campaign all the way up to the election in November.
I didn’t want to take too much time out of school, so I applied to go to a local university. I got in (yay!) and so that is what I have been doing since early January! I am majoring in Political Science, which I am very excited about… I can see myself with a future in Politics, so I am excited to see where it takes me. 🙂 However, because I transferred from the UK, not everything translated exactly, so right now I am just taking Freshman Gen-Ed classes. Even so, I am really enjoying it! It is good to be back in school, working towards something I am actually into, and there is also a dorky part of me that is excited to be going to ‘real college’ (the school I was going to before was very small and not really your typical university experience.) So yeah, that’s going really good!
Okie dokie, that’s the update. I’m glad to be back, and hopefully I’ll be able to keep it up! My next post should be a round up of the movies I’ve seen so far in 2020, so keep a eye out for that!
Thanks for reading, darlings!
P.S. I didn’t know what to put as the picture for this post so enjoy this self-portrait I did awhile ago lol

Music of the Month: July 2019
5. Bishop Briggs – ‘Champion’
Tumblr media
This is just one of those feel-good, damn-I’m-a-bad-ass songs. I think Bishop Briggs is such a talented songwriter, and I love her sound. This song is 🔥.
https://youtu.be/D6UTHCzUlAo
4. X Ambassadors – ‘Hold You Down’
Tumblr media
X Ambassadors have done it again. Damn, this song is so powerful and emotional. It’s also a fucking bop. That drop… That drop is fireworks. I love it.
https://youtu.be/zuFflKF6GuQ
3. Freya Ridings – ‘Castles’
Tumblr media
I, like most people, discovered Freya Riding’s talent after the release of her beautiful song ‘Lost Without You’. God, her voice is something else. She recently released her debut album, and ‘Castles’ is one of the singles from it. It is a bit poppier than her usual ballads… It gives me a Florence + The Machine kind of vibe.👌🏻
https://youtu.be/H-3rxh8kZHE
2. Dominic Fike – ‘3 Nights’
Tumblr media
Okay, I am way late on this song, but I kept hearing it on the radio recently, and it was just impossible to ignore. It is just such a cool song… What a banger. This dude is gonna go far.
https://youtu.be/OWKzRngush4
1. Red Hearse – ‘Red Hearse’
Tumblr media
I freaking love everything that Jack Antonoff does, and I was so excited to hear that he had a new project! Red Hearse seems to be a bit different from what he usually does, and I am here for it. This song is funky as hell, and Sam Dew has such a cool voice.

Film Review Round-Up
Hey guys! I have been really bad about writing lately… Oops! I have seen a few movies lately, though, so I thought that I would just do a quick review of each one…
Tumblr media
Rocketman
I really, really enjoyed ‘Rocketman’. Taron Egerton is an absolute legend, and he is so damn good in this movie. This is not your average biopic, and I love how they turned it into an actual musical. The music, the costumes, the acting… It all comes together to tell Elton’s story in a unique and entertaining way.
Rating: 4/5
Tumblr media
Aladdin
I think that they did a decent job of remaking this classic. There is nothing really wrong with it, but I just found it a little boring. I thought that the lead was quite dull; however I enjoyed Naomi Scott as Jasmine. Despite the internet’s scorn when the trailers came out, Will Smith’s Genie is without a doubt the best part of this movie. I do think they did the music well, and I appreciated that they updated it to have a more feminist angle than the original. It is not the best of Disney’s recent live remakes, but it is not bad, either.
Rating: 3/5
Tumblr media
Men In Black: International
I went into this with fairly low expectations, but I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I thought it genuinely funny, and it made me laugh a lot. The chemistry between the cast is great, and may I just say, Kumail Nanjiani’s Pawny is a seriously underrated character.
This movie is not monumental by any means, but it is a fun summer flick, and a pretty good one at that.
Rating: 3.5/5
Tumblr media
Yesterday
This movie is a little wacky, and a little weird. But I liked it. It’s funny, sweet and slightly silly. But, a warning for Americans: This movie is VERY British. It is so in the best way possible, but if British humor isn’t your thing, you are not going to find this funny.
I laughed quite a few times, and was casually invested in the somewhat bizarre plot. It is a fun premise, and makes for an enjoyable watch.
Rating: 3.5/5

Film Review: Spider-Man: Far From Home
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ is fantastic. There it is. That’s my review.
No, but really, I think this movie is bordering on perfection. It is everything that I could have wanted it to be, and more. It manages to perfectly balance between being an exciting, action-packed superhero film, and also a funny, sweet teen rom-com. It is laugh-out-loud hilarious, but it gets serious when it needs to be, and is also touchingly sweet (not to mention jam-packed full of tear-jerking Stark tributes).
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is at his Peter Parker-est, with this film capturing everything that we love about the character; his awkward charm, his boyish earnestness, his enthusiasm, his youthful mistakes, and the heartbreaking ways that he shows his grief. If you thought it wasn’t possible to love him anymore than you already do, ‘Far From Home’ will prove you wrong. The other characters are also fantastic, from familiar characters like Ned and MJ, to the new face of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio.
Marvel is often criticized for its forgettable or unoriginal villains, especially in the solo movies. But I thought that the villain in this movie was pretty unique and added a different feel to the whole movie (it is hard to say too much without giving away spoilers.) I would definitely say that the stakes never felt particularly high, but this movie is far from boring, and has plenty of twists to keep you on your toes. The pacing is excellent, never being too slow or too fast/chaotic. It really is perfect from the very first scene.
‘Far From Home’ has easily swung itself into the list of my favorite Marvel movies, and has landed pretty damn high up.
