Hey so could you do some domestic headcanons with Maria (like what she does in her free time, if she likes to get up early, etc.)

Domesticity With Maria Hill

Being the Deputy Director of SHIELD, Maria is guaranteed to have a crazy schedule. She works long hours and oftentimes, when she gets home, you’re already asleep. You insist on trying to wait up for her, but 9/10 times, that doesn’t end up happening.

Maria usually comes home to find you on the couch, the TV flashing, remote in your limp hand. Her heart aches at the site. You’re adorable, but she wishes you would just go to bed.

Maria has a routine. First, she slips the remote out of your hand and turns off the TV. Next the tidies up a bit if things are messy. Then, she’ll fold the blanket you have wrapped around you. Lastly, she’ll carry you to bed. Sometimes you stir and curl into her, other times you’re completely out.

Also, side note: you love Maria’s arms. She definitely has muscles and they’re very hot.

“You could crush me with your arms and I’d thank you”

On the rare occasion that she is home by a reasonable hour, you’re very giddy and that always puts a smile on Maria’s face. She loves seeing you happy.

On the weekends, the two of you usually have a lazy Saturday morning. It’s very hard to get either of you out of bed. You’ll be curled up with one another (Maria as the big spoon). She’ll run her hand through your hair.

If it’s raining…..you’re not going anywhere on Saturday. Saturday is a cozy, indoors day.

I feel like you and Maria would have a dog. Maria usually takes the dog out on walks in the early mornings and the two of you will walk the dog together after dinner.

Walks around the neighborhood with Maria are the best :)

Also, even if not everyone at SHIELD has met you, they all adore you. Maria talks about you a lot. They especially love when you bake homemade cookies or brownies and Maria brings them in (you give extra sweets to Natasha, of course).

You and Maria will also go to the gym together. She’s always spotting you, making sure you don’t get hurt. She’s very protective.

You love practicing different hair styles on Maria and she’ll indulge you. Oftentimes she’s sitting at the kitchen table doing paperwork and you’re sitting behind her on a counter, braiding her hair.

Also, you always insist on decorating for the holidays. Every single one. Your house is decked out. You can usually convince Maria to put up the decorations with you.

SHE IS SO ROMANTIC ON VALENTINE’S DAY. I’M TALKING ROSE PETALS EVERYWHERE AND CANDLE LIGHT DINNERS AND CHOCOLATES.

She is so charming and good at sweet talk and flustering you.

Maria is also usually waking up earlier than you in the morning. Before she heads off to work, she gives you a kiss on the cheek and you grunt sleepily in return.

If you’re being too stubborn about getting up, Maria will get the dog to jump on you and lick you all over your face.

Whenever Maria gets vacation time, you’re dragging her to the prettiest places. You’d be the planner among the two of you.

And whenever Maria’s away on missions, she always gets you a souvenir from wherever she is.

You guys tried to keep a plant once — didn’t go so well. You also got emotionally attached to the plant, which Maria didn’t really get.

The two of you have a lot of scrapbooks which you guys love reminiscing over glasses of wine.

I fully believe your house is so cozy all the damn time. Tons of sweaters and blankets. Lights are usually dimmed. It’s so nice.

So the MCU Secret Invasion show has a ton of issues, but to me I think it helped expose the general rift I think there is between comic readers who have read about Maria Hill and fans who only know her from the MCU

Because here is the thing, while we can talk about if this was fridging, its became apparent to me reading some reactions that people sometimes have a hard time separating their headcanons/assumptions about Maria vs who the actual character is. Like I've seen people also call her death burying your gays (Maria is not gay in the MCU or the comics, and frankly I think people need to remember neither is Colbie Smulders) or complaining that they had a "Canadian" character's coffin draped in an American flag (Again, in the comics Hill is American. Colbie Smulders has dual US Canadian citizenship)

Here is the thing about Maria in the comics. She was created to be an antagonist, and a very darkly gray morally character because Nick Fury had become too chummy with the heroes over the years.

Here are just SOME of the things Hill did in the comics

Arranging for a camp to be bombed in the Savage Land, to cover up rogue SHILED agents being involved in arms dealing. Said evidence she knowingly destroyed included Salvage Landers being used as slaves by the agents

Helped kick off the Civil War by trying to have Captain America arrested for violating the Registration Act, BEFORE it had been signed into law

During said Civil War ran a superhero Guantanamo Bay in the Negative zone, where those interned there were slowly turned crazy by the effects of the Zone

Also during the Civil War created a division of Shield to hunt down superheroes that got nicknamed "The Capekillers"

Once captured Spider-Man and had SHIELD psychics mind rape him to pry Avengers secrets from him

Created ANOTHER secret prison where prisoners where mindwiped to live in a Pleasantville type town

And in the MCU she was....Nick Fury's second in command who he talked to for 2 movies (Avengers and Cap 2), and then was in about 2-3 scenes of Avengers 2 before disappearing from the MCU for nearly a decade.

Again, we can talk about how badly she was treated in Secret Invasion, but how much of the love for this character comes just from the fact she was played by Colbie Smulders?

You were at the funeral. Her funeral. And you still couldn’t believe it. It couldn’t be. Maria couldn’t be… Dead.

But there you stood on the runway, watching as her coffin was brought back into the States. Your lip quivered and you tried to keep yourself together. You couldn’t help the tear that slipped from your eyes. And then another. They just streamed down your face. And you were powerless to stop them. Just like you were powerless to have stopped Maria from dying.

You wanted to yell at the woman. Tell her she wasn’t allowed to leave yet. There was so much that you still had to say. So much time that has been taken from the two of you. It wasn’t fair… Your mind spiraled in this tornado of chaos.

Elizabeth, Maria’s mother, eventually came over to you, embracing you tightly. Her touch anchored you back into reality slightly. You were shaking in the woman’s embrace. She then pulled back, holding you by the shoulders.

“I-I’m so S-sorrry, Eliz—” you stammered in a chocked up manner, but the woman hushed you.

“Don’t be, sweet girl. You were as close, if not closer to Maria, than I was…” she comforted.

“And I promise you, I will find out what happened to our girl…” Elizabeth swore to you.

You took a deep breath and nodded, thanking the woman before she went off. You talked with some other officials and such, attending the after-ceremony, while you saw Maria’s mom talking to a man in the distance.

You spent the next days, weeks in your apartment. Numb. Missing Maria. It was all so overwhelming. The only person you talked to nowadays was Elizabeth. She could somewhat understand your pain…

She’d told you what Fury had told her. The details helped you a little. But you knew that it wasn’t the whole truth… You were barely making it. Everything was day by day, one step at a time… Otherwise, you’d drown from all the grief around you.

Your life didn’t seem worth living without the love of your life..

One day, she dropped by, knocking at your door. You shuffled off the couch and made your way to the door. Opening it, you smiled lightly at the sight of Elizabeth.

“I want to show you something” she said, indicating for you to follow her.

You nodded, quickly excusing yourself o change into a new pair of black leggings and a long sleeved shirt. Then coming along into her car, she drove you out into what seemed to be nothing but land. The woman then stopped at a clearing.

“Where are we?” You asked.

“I… Reached out to Fury. Again. About you. He said he wanted to meet with you.” Elizabeth explained.

“Here?”

Suddenly a light descended in the middle of the clearing. And then there was a bright transport/elevator of some kind standing there. You got out of the car.

“That will take me to Fury…?” You quizzically asked.

The woman nodded.

“Thank you.” You told Elizabeth, before going to the doors of the ship and entering it.

The ship took you up. You held on to a side beam of the vehicle as it accelerated intensely. Moving really high up. You assumed outer space. Then suddenly it stopped. And the doors opened.

You stumbled out of the space pod and into some sort of space base corridor. You rounded the hallway and saw the SWORD logo on the wall. Eventually, you found the control room. And none other than the Nick Fury.

“Ms. L/N, I’ve been expecting you…” Fury cooly stated.

“I… Sir… Sorry, but why am I here…?” You stammered.

The man turned around to face you. His face was layers of masks, but you thought you could detect some… sympathy perhaps…?

“Follow me.” He said, walking out of the room and down the hall.

You nodded and followed the man.

“Elizabeth reached out to me about you, and how you had been taking Maria… being gone…” Fury sighed.

He led you into a room, an observation room with a two way mirror. But the other side was dark. You followed him into the room, closing the door behind him.

“We both thought it would be best if you know the truth…”

Then Fury switched the lights on. The other room lit up. It was very hospital like. And in there, laid Maria. She wasn’t moving. Your eyes widened and your mouth dropped. There was a monitor next to her, showing stable vitals.

What…?

“Is she…?” You whispered.

“Alive. Thank god.” He breathed out.

You were saved. Life had meaning again..

A wave of relief washed over you. Your life flashed before your eyes, her life with yours flashed before your eyes. Everything made sense again. You couldn’t breathe for a moment, you were getting so chocked up.

“W-why isn’t she… a-awake?” You stammered.

“She’s healing. Had a long recovery…” Fury sighed, “It’s all in here.”

He handed you a file.

“I didn’t just tell you because of what Elizabeth said. I’m telling you because I need someone who can watch her when she wakes up. The last men we used this specific procedure with had side effects…” He explained, indicating to the large file, “Read it. And then stay by her side as she recovers.”

You nodded swiftly.

“I understand…” you muttered, staring at the file.

Fury then left you in the room. You watched him close the door. You sighed, glanced at the brunette in the other room, your heart aching. Then siting down at the desk in the room, you began to read the file from the beginning.

The title read T.A.H.I.T.I. Project…
