I walked into the warm building. Everyone else seemed to be in deep conversation. It was so loud inside that i couldn’t hear my own thoughts. I quietly recited the small script I had written for myself while i was still in the car. I nervously walked in the direction of a woman behind the counter on the other side of the building. A few people who I had seen outside earlier had formed a line, so I quickly joined. Person after person walked out until it was my turn to face the woman. I recited my script one more time, then stepped forward. I stood up straighter as I looked the woman in her eyes and awaited the question ahead: “May I take your order?”
