Quick Update!
I've been taking a break from studio work, mainly because I exhausted myself from the extensive work I was putting into the pieces.
Also, I finally just couldn't finish a piece (also has to do with the fact that I finally confronted my feelings with a break up.)
.
Anyways, I picked up the brush again today and did another painting. It may need a few more touches, but I think I know the title already...
"James."
It's a wonderful acrylic abstract on canvas. It actually matches a piece I had done at the beginning of the semester.
.
I'm a lot more confident for my show. I also have some anger tonight, so maybe that will mean a new piece tomorrow. It's exciting how everything is coming together, and how its all based on my emotions.
Anyways, here's a quick photo of how it looks, I'll have a HQ one up soon.

"Expectations" Oil on canvas December 2012 "A circle should never try to fit into a square. As human beings, we should never try to live up to the expectations that another person builds for us, and instead meet and even surpass the boundaries that we set for ourselves. I went through a darkness because another person had irrationally assumed I would meet certain standards, and when I didn't meet those standards, I felt their disappointment. I felt inadequate in their eyes, and I thought it would be best to try to change myself for their own desires. However, I am and always will be a circle, and I realized that I even surpassed what they considered to be their own standards. My bright cadmiums were bursting through the bleakness that the person wanted me to be, and I'm glad that in the end I was able to accept that. Never allow yourself to be confined within a straight edge, never allow yourself to be someone else's expectations."

Recent work: Abstraction
So, I haven't really posted the artwork that I've done in the last few months. Instead I've been uploading the pieces I've been working on in the last few days. Still, at least I'm keeping everyone up to date :)
I've been into abstract for the last three years, basically since I started doing oil painting. However, in the last few weeks, I think I've really started to grasp what creating an abstraction truly means. Through that, I can see a bloom within my own work. Concepts are better conveyed, use of media has expanded and strengthened, and overall there is a different feel to my creations. I have to say, I'm really proud of what it has started to become.
These last few days have been all about abstraction, abstraction, and more abstraction. Some started out with an idea and then took off into their own direction, while others the complete opposite. All I can say is that this small journey is making me see what type of artist and person I truly am.

Winter Break :)
So, it's been quite a few hectic months! I apologize deeply for not checking in more, but I do promise to get y'all up to date in the next few weeks. Basically, I finished my drawing and art history courses at Hunter, and now I'll be taking Advanced Drawing (figures, finally!) and 20th Century Art I/II. I have a few nice pieces for my portfolio from this semester's drawing course, and a few personal pieces done as well.
In other news, I HAVE A SHOW IN MARCH! A good friend of mine said I could exhibit with him, so I've been a little busy-body today, working on pieces. I have two that I'm fairly sure I'm going to use, and two that I worked on today.
Graphic design has been going well, too. I'm the layout designer for two publications, and a graphics/ad person for a third. My layouts have definitely gotten better.
Which reminds me....I won 14 awards from ESSPA for last year's yearbook designs!
Oh! And one of the publications I do designs for is a literary and arts magazine (The Olivetree Review) and an artwork of mine was chosen for the fall issue!
Man, I really haven't kept you guys up to date.... So sorry!
Let's see if I can photograph some stuff tonight :D

From the first week of painting! (September 7)
Craig said that the vase/flower brushwork was the best part of it, and that he really liked the cup :3
I really think that my abstract work has helped my brushstroke in my oil works :)

Oops...
Sooo....I haven't really posted in a bit...my bad.
School has been amazing, especially since I joined the Literary and Arts magazine, The OliveTree Review, and I was given the position of "Design Advisor." I get to handle the digital editing of pictures for the magazine, and I've been doing some graphics as well.
It's been a legitimate joy making posters, haha.
Also, classes have been going really well, too. I've had two drawing classes where we've done work in class, and I've done a homework assignment so far. I have one due next friday as well....yeah I should probably start on that...
Painting has been going great, too. I've had two classes of still life painting, and it's coming along..slowly.
I've also had an absolutely amazing conversation about classical painting notions with Craig.
I have a bunch of pictures to upload, and I'll get into more detail as I put them up.
Ta y'all, and thats it for now <3

Painting! <3
So tonight is the first time I'm going to be painting in oils again...
in SO LONG.
I cleaned out all of my brushes, found/organized my oil paints, and all I have to do is get my canvas out of the closet.
However, getting ready inspired me to do a little pre-class painting, especially since I bought a bunch of art supplies yesterday, including this adorable little canvas.
So I did a little abstract painting. Not sure if it needs more work, but I know I'm going to name it "Catalyst."
But anyways, SO EXCITED for tonight, and to get down n' dirty with the paint hahaha :)

New Art Project
So after I sorted through most of my smaller artworks, I realized that some of it would be better if it was edited digitally. (Meaning the already graphic ones just to create a better black, clean up the lines, etc.)
And in the middle of doing that, I realized that one of the pieces I did last year would look amazing if I photoshopped it and added color.
So I'm doing that now...
AND IT'S TAKING FOREVERRRRRRRRRR
Ok, I'm done.
