Can you explain to me what a nebula is? Is it like a cluster of space debris?

Shout-out to the friend that asked me this, I sent it in as an ask so I wouldn't forget :)))

the short answer is that a nebula giant cloud of dust & gas (mostly hydrogen and helium because that's what the vast majority of space is made up of) and plasma in space

Now its time for the long answer!!

So to start off Nebulas or Nebulae aren't space debris, space debris is essentially any man-made object left in space by humans (ie broken satellites, pieces of rocket ships, you get the idea) Nebulae are so much cooler!!

So there are different types of Nebulae, you have Dark Nebulae, Diffuse Nebulae, Emissions Nebulae, Supernova Remnants, and Planetary Nebulae (which actually has nothing at all to do with planets but its said that our sun is going to turn into a planetary nebula when it explodes) I'm not going to get into the specifics of these right now because that's not what you asked and none of this is technically crucial to the post except for maybe Supernova remnants

Now not all nebulae are star nurseries but they often are, and that's why I love them, Nebulae more often than not form when a star dies and goes Nova or Supernova so basically when a star dies it has a couple of options, it can go Nova or Supernova and nebulae are what's left after the explosion, being the remnants of now dead stars, and then these now dead stars go on to form new baby stars and then repeat i hoped I answered your question!! Nebulae are my favorite astronomical objects (second to only maybe white holes/black holes but I think that they are so so cool and every picture I've seen of them, if anyone wants too, see my favorite nebula here and if anyone out there knows more about this topic and I got anything wrong or wants me to expand on something a little bit more feel free to correct me!!
