“this fic was good except for…” “this would have been great but…”
some of y’all need to learn how to give better constructive criticism and it shows. so here’s a quick rundown.
Give a positive statement. “I really liked how you did X.”
Then — without detracting from the first statement, and only if the author has signaled that they are open to criticism and advice — give your second, unrelated point.
Critical point:
“I noticed how you did Y. That felt a little out of character to me because of Z reason.”
And, finally, follow up with a broad summary:
“Overall, I really liked this, thank you for writing!”

blah blah something something about how fandom gravitate towards more individualistic characters because they’re easier to understand compared to community-oriented characters whose character development is very much tied to their culture/nation because understanding a single character is easier to understand than a character AND an entire culture, especially when said culture is based off a marginalized community that exists in real life 🫠 and said fandom is majority WHITE.

Look what I got! It’s a model of Donatello from the 1984 comics- when they all wore red masks!
I showed it to my mom- and she goes “Honey, that’s Raphael.” So I explained to her the history of all the turtles. (She looked at me like I was the world’s biggest nerd, which is fair enough.)
It was $30 but totally worth it.
It also includes a comic with Donatello’s best moments EVER in the comics :]

To ship Arcade and Vulpes is to dumb Arcade down to nothing but a gay doctor. In ANY circumstance he and Vulpes would despise each other, and if they don’t then that’s not Arcade and/or that’s not Vulpes.
It’s always irked me that people shipped them together, it’s not cute (especially not in the context of any Legion ending). To me it’s just an attempt at being different, outright dismissal of Caesars Legion and their beliefs, or a refusal to recognize Arcade as the character he is.

Okay- but...
Has anyone else noticed that at least with Dean Devlin- Christian Kanes characters all have some sort of ties to each other?
I mean:
Eliot Spencer; A military bred, mercenary trained, with multiple aliases- with a specific skill set, con-artist.
Jacob Stone; An art historian, with multiple aliases, genius brain, eidetic memory (?), librarian.
Alex Walker; con-artist, with multiple aliases, an eye for detail, retired giftshop owner.
The characters might not be the same but there still enough for them to be long lost triplets or something.

you know what pisses me off?? straight hair = normal, pretty, desirable hair.
if 14-year-old me could see my hair right now, she’d be appalled. “But I thought only straight hair could be pretty, like in Princess Diaries?” she’d say. Because that is what media taught me. Every actress, every protagonist in a glow-up teen romance movie, every influencer, if they were white (or mostly white), a girl, and needed to be seen as “pretty,” they had straight hair.
I spent all of middle school and high school straightening my hair to a crisp. Every single morning, I would spent twenty minutes minimum forcing my hair to take a shape it hated, frying it into submission.
Who was going to tell me that my hair wasn’t meant to be that way? Not my mother, who had naturally straight hair. Not the people around me who were doing exactly the same thing I was. Certainly not the media, who told me I would only be beautiful with straight hair.
I’ve been wearing my hair naturally now for almost a year, and it is still recovering from the damage I did to it. But it looks better than it ever did before because it’s meant to be wavy. My hair wants to be curly, that’s just how it was made.
Anyway, this is your sign that if you have always thought your hair would only look good if you use heat every single day to shape it in a certain way, it might be time to just see what it can do naturally. You may not like it, and that’s okay, but everyone should be given the space to try out new, maybe natural things, rather than telling young people that there is only one way that is beautiful.

on dursley revisionism
Random people with wrong opinions: "Harry wasn't abused by the Dursleys" (bonus points for 'just neglected', which is a type of child abuse btw or 'that's all fanon')
Things that the Dursleys canonically did that are abuse just off the top of my head:
Swung a frying pan at his head (at the age of 12)
Grabbed him by the neck and basically tried to strangle him (even light pressure to the neck can cause internal damage)
Starved him
Verbally abused him
Locked him alone in a small cramped space as punishment (which can cause permanent psychological damage btw, and that's in adults. It is literally a type of torture.)
Made him sleep in that same small cramped unhealthy space when they had an extra bedroom
Encouraged their son to bully him and beat him up
Left him to be possibly attacked by a vicious dog
Bonus: Hid the evidence of his existence to outsiders and didn't speak about him to others (a typical thing for abusers to do)
And more. That boy is unrealistically well-adjusted.
I know the shitty guardian trope is so common in British children's lit (think Roald Dahl) that it became normalized, but it's not. It's abuse. I am worried for the children in your lives tbh.

Just wanna let you know you went SO HARD when you made Freud look like an older scumbag Rusty. Like visually it’s really cool but also narratively what it implies about the end result of the V.IV Rusty persona? How Rusty can give Raven purpose but Freud can give 621 strength? Ugh it’s so good absolutely adore it
IT'S INTERESTING YOU PHRASE IT THAT WAY CUZ
so in previous title, Armored Core: Verdict Day to be exact... there's this guy called J who is the final boss that lives for the thrill of the battlefield only. he also commands a group of AC pilots called Reaper Squad who literally goes around hunting down promising AC pilots. he also has banger quote like "There is no place for me other than the battlefield. to live as I please, and die a senseless death".
Freud is basically a Walmart version of that guy (sorry Freud).
BUT. J. is actually also a Walmart version of another guy in AC4 called Joshua who is: friendly, kind, helps the player character a lot in battles, pilots the most memorable mech in the series to that point (White Glint my beloved), but still ended up as the final boss to the player character. so basically... Rusty is kinda a callback to him in some aspects??????
that's the real reason i designed Freud to look kinda like Rusty, since they are both parallels to two other characters who are also parallel of each other (it's actually implied that J is cloned from Joshua after he died). they are like two sides of a same coin thrown into the lake of 621's life: one gives them the drive for power with purpose, while the other understands power as power only, that it does not need to be crowned with other grand names, yet two opposite ideals are delivered to 621 in a same form of love and admiration and obsession. augh it's so good.

Josephine with a baby would be insane. I don’t have anything else to say; the dynamic between an uneasily pregnant Jo and a wishful and wistful Zelda, still waiting for lightning to strike HER again, would be so heartbreaking. I do think Jo could find new purpose with a child, especially in this life that’s so different from anything she imagined for herself, but it’s not a decision to be taken lightly or made on a whim. It would take a serious miscalculation (as if!) or some bizarre irregularity in her cycle……. Highly unlikely. 👀
Well hello hello, friend. Look at you, back in the inbox right on schedule. Grab a chair, why don’t we? It’ll be a long one….
Tumblr media
Okay so FIRST of all this is why when you sent me that ask yesterday I was like, boy oh boy, do we have a psychological dive in store for you. Because y’all, there’s so damn much going on in that post. Why don’t we, uh, go back to an old tradition and follow a heathen under the cut while she rants about her pixels…
A plotline where Jo would be (even somewhat begrudgingly) pregnant while Zelda was the one who wanted the child would be too heartbreaking, even for me. While I think there’s potential there for support and mutual parenting (which they’re doing with Violette), at its core it would be gut wrenching for them both. I think we can really see why that is for Zelda, as she almost “illogically” wants a child more than she can describe. This is where the double entendre of Josephine talking in the mirror in today’s post comes in, because we can apply it to Zelda and the fact that there are VERY good reasons for her not to want another child. But there’s still something in her that is longing for one, and so to make her watch while it happens to her best friend would absolutely break her.
However, Jo is not aware of Zelda’s struggles at all. When she is speaking in the mirror, she is talking to herself. What we (and Gio) caught Jo in the middle of was sheer, unadulterated spiraling. If you go back to the last line of the corn post, you can see Jo setting herself up for this, insofar as she thinks that Zelda is happy because she has fully given herself over to this life, and that Josephine wants that; she just doesn’t now how.
Keep in mind Josephine is 32 at this point, and I think this is an age where there’s a moment for many people who can bear children, where you think “is that what I’m supposed to do?” or “will it make me happier?” even if you’ve decided that you don’t want children. While a small part of Jo is considering Gio in these thoughts, it is mostly self-pressure, with the influence of society and other women - being Zelda here, too. So when she’s listing these logical reasons why she shouldn’t have a child, she’s telling that to herself. She’s talking herself out of it, and as the end of the post hints at, it’s because she can get pregnant at that moment and she knows it.
But simultaneously her choice here shows that even while she is at her lowest (arguably even more than her depression because now, she’s giving it her all and it’s still not working), she will never choose to have children. You are not wrong in that it might give her life purpose, and that’s part of her thought process here too. She’s almost convinced herself that the act of bearing a child could give this pointless life she’s living meaning, and in doing so she could finally let go of her need for control and give in to her situation.
Like you said, there’s always the element of a mistake, but she tells Gio point blank “that she doesn’t make mistakes.” Of course all it takes is one, but this post is meant to show that she’s far too calculated and self possessed to give herself over not only to the intense emotions she’s experiencing at the beginning of the post, but also any sort of physical drive that might lead her to sleep with Gio when she knows not to.
She also very purposefully ends the post without ever giving in to him physically or emotionally. Even more, she’s still using selective vulnerability and sex to more or less manipulate him. Her balancing on the tip of her foot only to pull away is very indicative of this, insofar as she gives him just enough of herself without ever doing so completely. When she ultimately walks away with that little smirk on her face, its because she has truly talked herself off the ledge and reestablished some sense of self autonomy that she felt like she lost even in the act of considering a child. She’s realized that even in his world and for however much she has altered her life around his dreams and their situation, she still at least has that level of control over her own body and even his.
Y’all please just know I can write a whooooole ‘nother essay on the last paragraph so God help you if you made it through this one and imma shut up now…

it bothers me so much that so many western jews adamantly deny that jews as a whole have any connection to israel and say things like “my home is long island” or something. that’s such a privileged take, maybe you personally dont feel a connection to israel, but the vast majority of jews do because it is quite literally our homeland. hence the word made to describe the jewish people: diaspora.

transphobes will scream up and down that they want to “protect real woman” and “protect the children” while their ideology actively get cis and trans woman and children alike KILLED.
your not a feminist if your ideology demonizes other woman, whether you realize it or not.
