Dipped a toe and snooped in the pro IC and Co. tag just for shits and giggles and it's crazy how so many can't seem to comprehend general criticism of the acotar books and will call people or stans of other characters abusive and idiots and whatever else for simply being a stan of (name character) but do not see the total hypocrisy in their own faves. The abusive nature of their faves. The favoritism towards their faves. The manipulation both from and of their faves.
Many resfuse to see how all over the place SJM writing generally is and I find it hilarious how when it's stated that SJM retcon blatantly to fit the 1st person narrative of the book it's bullshit people and antis are hating for no reason, but as soon as it comes to ACOSF it's lies pandering to pro Nesta despite the story being written in 3rd person from both Nesta and Cassian's POV. I'm sorry, your fave Rhysand has always been a dick. They'd take everything in first books as gospel, but the moment it's Nesta's or even Bryce’s, it's not true? It's biased. It doesn't count.
Hmm...odd
I don't like ACOSF. The story wasn't about healing, but beating a character down into submission and as a Nesta stan, I still critique it because...I can and I will. Cassian can go fall down those stairs and give the usefulness of his wings to Emerie.
If they want to read the books blindly, go ahead, but don't get mad when others actually internalise and think about the messages being spoken. Everyone digest media differently, and that's OK. I personally like reading about ambiguous and indepth characters. Not a fan of being told how to feel and what to think. The ability to ready between the lines and pick up things that aren't in big neon writing is preferable. SJM has the capability, generally, which from what I've seen, is why TOG is far better recieved, even with the criticism.
They say if we hate Rhysand or Feyre so much, why keep reading? Well, at this fucking point, we're all too deep in this shit show to stop. Call it morbid curiosity. These books have made me a masochist.
If you're an anti blog, keep doing your thing. If you're a pro blog, same thing. Who cares? We find our communities and have fun talking shit. But the unnecessary harsh name calling over something supposedly "not that deep" is wild.

The weirdest thing to me is no one in the inner circle gives Elain credit for this.
They may repeat it, they may say something about it, but like she doesn’t get the same respect that Feyre got for UTM. No one cares Elain did this.
Even in Feysands bonus at the end of ACOSF they are questioning whether Elain will become interesting. WHAT THE FUCK IS MORE INTERESTING THAN KILLING A KING OUT OF NOWHERE, with no training and stepping out of the shadow.
Why has SARAH J MAAS sidelined Elain? Is this just bad writing or is it on purpose. Whenever Amren points out Elain is more capable that is the perfect time to roll out SHE KILLED THE KING. But that doesn’t happen??!!
Elain killed the King- she won the war.
What the Fu*k Sarah J Maas?

El/riel had the potential to act as proof that not all love relationships need to be mates. That two people can love each other because they chose to and not because they can produce powerful children.
Instead we're given this absolute cluster-fuck of two Potentially Mated individuals Potentially attracted to each other where one's mate can demand a duel, and the other one's mate is an SA survivor who may or may not want to fight over a man.

I'm sorry what tf happened in SF, like, why is suddenly everyone okay with
locking a woman up against her will
invalidating her feelings
threatening her life for """misbehaving"""
pretty much just using her for sex
slut shamming
like... is it only bad when tamlin does it?? i don't understand how anyone can read this book and think that nesta apologizing to the inner circle by the end of it is a good thing????? the fuck
I've seen so many people defending the inner circle like "oh but she was spending their money" like, ok, then the next logical step is cutting her off from the money and not, i don't know LOCKING HER UP?????????
or when people say that they "did it for her own good" cause she was a danger to herself as if tamlin didn't try to lock feyre up using that same reasoning
the cherry picking is INSANE, those things are only considered unforgivable when it's someone other than the inner circle doing them and it's so tiring

Respect to Feyre for letting Elain have her privacy when it comes to her feelings about Lucien bc if it were me and my sister I would be so up in her business demanding to know why she didn’t like him 🤚

SJM trademarks
How the fuck does SJM think she can trademark nesta, bryce, rhysand, suriel and illyrian 😭. Like dawg these are real names that existed way before your made your dumb books. Suriel is an angel whose been written about for centuries. Illyria was an actual civilization how fucking bold to say you're the only one who can use that word.
I don't know much about how trademarks work but this has brought me to a new level of incredulous distaste for sjm

“You—you altered their memories?” I took a step back. Faerie arrogance, such faerie arrogance to change our minds, to implant thoughts as if it wasn’t a violation-
Miss girl says this and then goes and marries a literal mind-reader who fucks with minds like toys and she starts doing it herself😭

Why do fantasy smut writers always write about characters who are teenagers/early 20s?
I am 30 and would still like to go on an adventure and have a hot guy with fangs and wings fall in love with me????

Nah ‘cause Feyre getting mad at Tamlin for not helping her UTM is the equivalent of the savior getting mad at the victim for not doing more while being captured, and that’s just so funny to me like how do you be that dumb.

Where the fuck are the magical consequences in the ACOTAR series?
I have two main examples, and the first being the pivotal change that kick-starts the whole Feyre and Rhysand storyline. That being, the Bargain.
Aren't bargain in general Fairytale lore cross the board mostly non-negotiable? That being said, Rhysand forced the unnecessary Bargain on Feyre while UTM so she has to spend 1 week a month with him for the rest of her life. I'd say the shit should have been void since the damn girl died and the bargain was made while she was human. Now she isn't; she's Fae and it still stayed and thus, has to spend 1 week of her now immortal life with him per month. OK, I'll bite. But then the first two or was it three (who cares) months...that didn't happen, adding to everyone's paranoia in SC. Had Tamlin searching high and low of ways to break it, and in the end, the Cauldron was needed to break it.
...so, what's the point in a bargain if you can pick a choose how it works? There were no stipulations. 1 week a month. That's it. The magic should respond violently/whimsically/something each time it's breached on one party or both. Does the magic of bargain mean nothing then if it's not fulfilled? And if so, couldn't Feyre had just told Rhysand to piss off when he came to collect her seeming nothing bad happened after missing the first couple of months initially?
Anyway, moving on.
The High Lord meeting.
They all go to Dawn to talk about Hybern and it was stated that the HL's can't harm or attack or do whatever to each other because the magic of the room prevents it, but that's...not true.
The NC got away with so much magical shit. Rhysand stealing Tamlin’s voice/mouth, Feyre losing control and harmed the Lady of Autumn and then didn't care and deliberately went to harm Baron. And then Azriel straight up attacks Eris. Like, the actual fuck?
Not a single consequence or magical interference in a space that's meant to be neutral. The whole scene just made the NC look dumb, though I'm sure Sarah wanted me to be on their side, but like, get a grip. Use your words than having an emotional outburst, but I guess those are only allowed and excusable for the NC.
So, does the magic in the room all the HL's and those in attendance, I guess, are beholden to only reacts with legitimate life-threatening ordeals than petty squabbles?
Anyway, magic holds no weight in the direct moments they're meant to and its weird.

Alright, so, time for another weird ACOTAR thought:
Even though I know Keir is this terrible, awful dirt-bag, the books still continuously manage to make me feel bad for him. I am not joking! I felt bad for the guy!
Like especially in ACOWAR, when he fights in the war (and the books repeatedly remind us he did it well and how much he and his darkbringers behaved), and the only thing he wants is for him and his people to go visit Velaris (which they should be allowed to whenever they want in the first place)? And then Rhys is all 'no worries we'll ruin the experience for him, he'll never want to come back'.
I get it Keir supposedly wants this only to get back at Mor....or at least that's what the IC thinks. But it's still such a humble reward to ask for risking your life in war and I can't help imagine some poor Hewn city child going to Velaris for the first time and they can't even get an ice cream or whatever because no shop will serve them lol
Even when Keir insults Feyre and Rhys breaks every bone in his body for it, it just....it's so disproportionate lol Why can't you just kill the damn guy if you hate him so much, come on! Stop making me feel bad for him!
