Okay, I guess this is my Writeblr intro!
Pretty new to this, so here goes nothing...
Greetings, Writeblr!
My name's Chris (he/him), I'm 27, currently based in Philadelphia. I'm a visual artist, specializing in 2D media and illustration, and I'm also an avid lover of Fiction and Storytelling!
Naturally, the sum of these interests manifests itself as a love for Comics and Sequential Art; with that being said, the majority of my Fiction Writing is for comics and graphic novels.
I started my journey in learning to write fiction a few years ago; i always had a love for Story, whether it be books, shows, comics, movies.... if there's a Compelling Narrative and Compelling Characters, chances are I'm all over it!
My current WIP is a Sci-Fi, Cosmic Horror, Sports Drama Graphic novel series, called OneFall: a Dystopian, Cyberpunk world of Lovecraftian horror, compounded with the action-packed, fast-paced world of Pro-Wrestling, injected with themes of identity, feminism, revolution, and reconciling with past trauma. If this sounds like an interesting (albeit unorthodox) combination, then maybe this comic is for you!
As you might've guessed, I tend to write (and read) in the genres of Action-Adventure, Sci-fi, and Horror, but I tend to dip my feet in whatever catches my interest.
While I'm no stranger to this site, I'm fairly new to this neck of the woods, so... feel free to say hi!
Where my fellow writers at?

The CIA Hates Fun Fiction
Tumblr media
Panel 1: A cat approaches a writer. "You look sad," says the cat. "Has genre fiction no courage?" asks the writer.
Panel 2: The writer says, "Where is the thirst for defying convention? For challenging formats that break narrative norms in pursuit of a message? must we still be constrained by storytelling rules established by the CIA in support of a less-literate public?"
Panel 3: The cat is cleaning herself. "Nobody likes your dream sequences interrupting action, huh?"
Panel 4: The writer throws paper and pencil. "THE DREAMS ARE ESSENTIAL I AM AN ARTIST"
Tumblr media
ID: The cat is cleaning herself in a single panel beside a wall of text. "David Lynch called, he said you can't write the epic fantasy version of mulholland drive because his surrealist visual aesthetic doesn't translate into a traditional fiction narrative and you can't rely on so-called visual clues to orient readers to rapidly changing environments and timelines the way you can do it in movies, and it's a lot to ask the average reader to maintain focus on an emotional abstract long enough to discern that you are telling the story indirectly through motifs and don't explain why early chapters are necessary until it becomes self-evident five hundred pages later, especially when you sometimes indulge in archaisms"
Tumblr media
A scribbly panel of my older self saying, "When I was 18-25 years old, this was my fave shirt. no reason i'm sharing that." My younger self looks sullen and is wearing a "tortured artist" t-shirt. I also drew a scrap of tortured artist cloth captioned "throwing it away was hard"

Can we appreciate comic artists for a sec? Making a comic requires drawing 4+ unique artworks in a row, and none of them make sense with the other ones. It takes SO MUCH ART to make a complete comic that people then consume in like 5 minutes.
Comics probably have the biggest work time/watch time ratio of any media besides perhaps animation.
Artists, you da real MVPs.

I had a chat on Discord last night, covering my full process of creating comics (and high concept stories in general). Come give the video a look if you weren't able to make it. :)

Actually writing when you have only characters and plot points is so weird, like they’re actually talking?that’s how they act in those scenarios? Everything i write is so unexepted for me
Also fear of what people will think of them when it comes out, it’s not super good, but I hope people would like to buy physical copies in few years

Really wish nanowrimo still had the option to track progress by page rather than by word, it's making tracking comic scripts a little harder than I think it needs to be :/

I had a really nice and in-depth conversation with the guys at The Comic Book Lair about my book The Lonesome Hunters and my comics making/story telling process. Listen here:

One of my regrets in the comic script was not having made Adam more of an asshole and in love with Lilith. I'm currently rereading demology to adapt the next chapters, and one of the interpretations was that Adam suffered too much with Lilith's departure - I wish I had made him suffer more haha -, and when she returns with Samael/Lucifer, they will distort the Eden couple - Samael with Eve and Adam with Lilith -. I wanted more of this drama hahaha
But as a woman, I interpret that Eve would trust another woman more, so at this point I try to conform to what I've done so far...

Hello New Followers! A handful of y’all (particularly my fellow Writeblr users) have expressed some ✨interest✨ in my current WIP, so - to whet your appetites a little - here’s the *revisited* version of the cover for OneFall: Vol. 1 (done by yours truly)!
This volume features the first 5 chapters of the Story, introducing readers to the plights, dilemmas and journeys of our characters in a fictional world of greed, excess, and entertainment not unlike our own…
And now.... all I have to do is draw the damn thing 😅

Finish It. Then We’ll Talk.
Tumblr media
This is a four-panel comic drawn in simple, expressive blue digital ink.
A writer tells her cat, “I’m practicing my autograph! See? Every writer needs a Good Autograph! I can’t disappoint my fans!” She keeps talking, jumbled, as the cat puts a paw over her mouth to stop her. “they mean so much to me historic author—“
“STOP,” says the cat. “You haven’t finished the book yet.”
