'The wars of the past are the wars of the future' or 'hate seems to linger'
blackinnon with original character! kid, hardcore angst, they/them pronouns
tw: hinting on Dumbledore slander, but could be viewed as unreliable narrator, a bit of fluff too, but mostly pain, death and blood and nightamares and kid separated from parents, hints of depression (?)
masterlist and requests
note (please read): I've seen a lot of hate in the fandom, people hating on people because they don't like a character/ship. And while I do stand by the fact that everyone have the right to their own opinion – as they should – I want this blog to be a safe space, therefore: Please express your thoughts with mindfulness and human decency.
Personally, I ship wolfstar, blackinnon, remadora, dorlene and a few others both romantically and platonically (depending on the story I'm reading/writing). Constructive criticism is welcomed, but not the same as passive-agressive/agressive hate.
Rigel was there when Sirius was arrested
a couple of months prior, when Rigel was too young to understand, but still old enough to remember, they saw their mom, Marlene, being killed
they clung to their father's leg when the Aurors circle the two of them, screaming and crying as Sirius was being dragged away
Rigel's dad is yelling as well, but Rigel doesn't hear what he's saying
the only words that stick with them are actually two names: Peter Pettigrew and Dumbledore
later, when they get at Hogwarts, they piece it all together: Sirius has been shouting his innocence, claiming Peter to be the traitor and demanding an audience with the old headmaster, while the Aurors were taking Pettigrew's side, mourning his death and pronouncing the order to take Sirius to Azkaban in the name of Dumbledore and the Ministry
but right then, in that scary, woeful moment, Rigel couldn't understand a thing
when Sirius' wand landed next to them, they salvaged it
it was more an instinct, desperate to have something of their father now that their fists had been uncurled from his jeans
Rigel had Marlene's wand as well, Sirius kept it in their flat after her death
and even to present days, Rigel held onto both with everything in them: the only things left from their parents
after the war ends, Rigel is oftenly shackened awake from their sleep by nightmares
every dream starts the same way: with a happy memory, a familial scene they'd never experience again and are afraid to forget
like the time when summer sprung to life and the scent of blooming flowers passed even through London's crowded highways. Rigel Mckinnon-Black woke up to their father's cooking. He wore skinny jeans and simple t-shirt instead of the gloomy robes of an Auror, making the food without following any receipt. It must've been a sunday, then. Rigel laughed and threw themself on Sirius, locking their arms around their father's waist and their legs around one of his legs.
" 'Morning to you too, baby," Sirius patts his kid's head, stroking their head lovingly before pulling away from the stove, picking them up and snootching their cheek. Rigel giggles and push at their father's face. "Daddy, stop, it tickles," they say, scratching the spots where Sirius' long hair touched them.
"Oh, yeah? That tickled? What about this?" The man grins, seats the child down and start chasing them around the flat. Whenever Rigel is caught, Sirius runs his fingers over any ticklish spot he knows of.
"What are you two doing?" Marlene joined the picture, hair up in a messy bun, still in pijamas. She yawns and blindly reach for some coffee, waiting for an answer. "It's too early to have so much energy."
"It's one p.m, my love." Sirius deadpan. Then leans to whisper in Rigel's year. "I think mommy needs a little wake up call, hm?"
"Yes!" They yell enthusiastically. "Wakey, mommy!" The kid runs and jumps in Marlene's arms. The witch saves the mug quckly and catch them, hugging Rigel tight to her chest and placing a loving kiss on their temple.
Sirius approach his family and brushes Marlene's playful glare with a self indulgent smile. "I made breakfast."
"It better be good," she leans in for a kiss, putting Rigel down on a chair at the table. "Or you're sleeping on the couch so I can take back the hours of rest you and your kid robbed me of."
"How is it that's my kid when they're playing around, possibly disturbing the neighbors and your kid when they're saving baby birds and feeds stray dogs?"
Marlene just hums conspiracyly. "Tomatoes or cucumbers to go with the eggs, dearest?" She asks Rigel.
or when their parents took them in the muggle park for the first time
winter begin to fade, but the cold resisted still. Sirius and Marlene couldn't see a meter away from worries and work, but they both wanted Rigel to have a childhood. To grow up with happiness and love.
So here the Mckinnon-Black family was, watching little Rigel trying every single toy available in the park. The swing became their favorite soon and neither their father nor their mother could take Rigel off it any time in the near future.
"Mommy, daddy, look what I can do!" The kid shouted gleefully and before they even finished talking, Rigel jumped. The speed of the swing threw them in the air. They giggled, excited to fly up in the sky, but their parents saw only the danger of the upcoming fall.
"Levitacorpus," Sirius acted on instinct, without a care for consequences. Marlene rushed towards her child, now floating swiftly above the ground. She took them in her arms and bounced them on her hip.
"You ok, baby?"
"Don't scare us like that, little one."
most of these images are from photos, as Rigel lost their parents so early in life
but then, the dread settles in and they see Marlene's unmoving body, blonde hair reddened with a liquid they now know it's blood
they see their father breaking, but picking them up and hugging them tight "It's alright, baby, it's alright. Daddy's here, ok?"
"Why doesn't mommy wake up? She scares me."
"Mommy's gone to sleep now, baby. A very, very long sleep where she visits beautiful places and watches over you."
"Why didn't she take us with her, daddy? I want to go with mommy. Why did she leave us?"
Sirius tighten the hug "That can't happen, yes darling? Not now, not for a long time. Mommy didn't leave us, she loves you so, so much, angel, so much. But for now, it's going to be just the two of us." His smile pained him, but it wasn't such an impossible effort if it meant comforting his child.
"Ok, daddy."
except, it wasn't ok
after Rigel met Dumbledore, they put a face to the name and his blue eyes and white hair appeared in their dreams, next to Voldemort's green flash of forbidden magic
the headmaster would be there, lingering in the shadows, watching Rigel being tossed to the side, screaming their throat hoarse for their father
Rigel woke with a startle
their roommates were still asleep so they made their way to the bathroom, trembling
they let the water run until it's icy cold and then splash their face once, allowing the droplets of water to dry on their face
they look in the mirror, fingers gripping the sink so hard the skin around their knuckles break and slow drops of blood pierce to the surface
Rigel's grey eyes are hollow, their black hair creating a powerful contrast with the ghostly pallor of their face
they know they look like their father, they see him every time they look in the mirror
but they also have their mother's smile
so Rigel gathers the hair up in a bun, the way Sirius loved to wear it and tries to smile
Marlene's crooked grin stares back, the same lips, the upper one fuller than the bottom one, the same freckles on the scrunched nose, the same dimples
but Rigel's smile is wavering when their mother's was lighting the room up and their eyes were the monotone grey of rainy autumn days when the night claims the sky at noon, while their father's glistened a royal silver that could bring people to kneel in front of him
tears struck proeminently against the water now that it dried
the cold water seemed to never have been on their face, but the warm tears left stains under their eyes as the salty liquid streamed down Rigel's face and dropped from the chin
their breath hitched the more they tried (and failed) to resemble their parents, hampered by sorrowful longing
they missed Sirius and Marlene so much!
worse, even, they missed what could have been if the war didn't steal away their parents
because before falling asleep Rigel loosened the leash on their subconscious mind and imagined episodes of their life, improved by their parents presence
Them and Sirius picking up Marlene from work then going on a night flight above high, green hills with bushy forests or rocky shores with splashing waves; returning home late (or ealry, depending on how one looks at it) and falling asleep tangled together on the couch.
Their parents and them having huge, loud, obnoxious parties for each of their birthdays
Sirius teaching them to ride a motorcycle and Marlene showing them how to play quiditch
Rigel hated the war and the rat that did as good as to orphan them, they hated Voldemort and his stupid believes and Dumbledore and his lack of action when in need of it

I know there are a lot of people who don’t ship Remadora and that’s perfectly fine. I know a lot of people prefer Wolfstar over Remadora and that is also perfectly okay. What is not acceptable is treating other’s negatively and hounding them, attacking them verbally and threatening them because their shipping interests are different to your own. Now, I haven’t seen too much of this on here at present, it has predominantly been on tiktok but I have myself been hard blocked in the past because of a ship I wrote with a partner on my blog. What I want to do right now is to make this as perfectly clear as I can on this blog...
I will not tolerate or accept any hatred towards people based on who they ship and who they don’t ship. We are supposed to respect each other as writers and that can sometimes fall by the wayside in our passionate defence of our ships. Just please, take those few moments before you speak to think “how would I feel if someone said this to me?”. A lot of people in this rpc struggle with mental health issues or feeling marginalised and this sort of behaviour doesn’t help. The world can be cruel to us and so we should be kind to each other.

Note
the thing about wolfstar is that they were not even hinted in the slightest in canon. In the Marauder flashbacks there is always James and Sirius´ special bond hinted, as in Sirius only having eyes for James during the OWL exams, but not Remus. And in the present time there was also never any lingering touches/ looks. In fact, the only time they hug its described as a brotherly hug. So, I´m really curious why so many people seem to think that they were ever more than platonic friends.
I read a really compelling post one time about how JKR made both Sirius and Remus’s stories allegorical for the struggles of gay youth in the 1970s and 1980s - the AIDS crisis, and being kicked out of your home for being inherently, irreversibly ‘different’ - but did not make either of them gay, which was arguably yet another way that she took the struggle of a marginalized group and attempted to make it ‘more palatable’; which, by extension, also renders it completely baseless in historical narrative. So while there was never any overt mention, it can be argued that there is subtext to both of their characters that makes a viable argument that they could have been queer youth.
(And James and Sirius’s bond was emphasized as inherently platonic; they were brothers above all else, and this is emphasized so much more by the fact that we view the story through Harry’s eyes. He has no immediate loving family, so of course there’s going to be a focus on establishing a positive and grounded relationship with his long-lost godfather.)
Also - fanfiction is a place to extend, modify, and subvert the canon entirely. The idea that something has to be mentioned in canon in order for people to ship it is, uhhh, NOT really something that I’ve ever seen fandom abide by. This is especially true when there is such a critical lack of representation for LGBTQ+ characters and POC characters within canon - if someone wants to feel represented in the story and sees two characters with such an open ended past as Sirius and Remus, why not? Straight relationships get SO much rep in HP canon. Even ones that people have questions about, like Remadora and whoever Draco ends up with (I cba to remember).
I mean, I write pretty exclusively for a couple that got no more than 5 pages of mention across a 7 book series lmao. Almost none of what happens in Bond and Free, or any of my other stories, has ever been hinted at in canon. It’s really one of those things where you just have to lean back on the tenets of fandom, which is: don’t like, don’t read
Hope this helps! I am not an expert on Wolfstar, so I’m sure there are many people in the blog-o-sphere with much more fully formed opinions.

Ground Zero
Part Two: Freedoms
Read on AO3 here.
Summary: Two-shot. Though Tonks had been fantasizing about moments like this for months—moments when the two of them were in bed together—none of them had involved quite this much blood or mortal peril. In which Remus is injured during a mission and Tonks has to think fast to save his life.
Author’s Note: This will be a two-shot and perhaps part of a larger Remadora series. They are definitely one of my OTPs, and I feel like a lot of their relationship was glossed over in the books. This story attempts to place a timeline on some of their romance. It takes places soon after Order of the Phoenix, before the Half-Blood Prince. I envision it happening right before Harry arrives at the Weasley’s and sees Tonks and Molly there. I’m pretty new to fanfiction writing, so any kind comments would be appreciated! (I had to re-upload chapter 2 because of a link issue and because idk how Tumblr works lol sorry about that)
Chapter 2 : Remus recovers from the attack while Tonks tries (and fails) to stay casual. There's only one bed, after all. Past Wolfstar if you squint.
One minute. That’s how long she allowed herself to lose control. Sitting there, shivering on the cool bathroom tile, she felt like a complete idiot. Since it had been well-established that the universe hated her, it made perfect sense that she had to have gone and fallen in love with a man who she was quite certain would never love her back. At least, not in the way she hoped. She had managed to earn in his friendship, but was sure that, in his eyes, she was still the same immature girl he had believed her to be all those months ago: too young, too frivolous, too clumsy. And, he was probably right. He had been a bloody professor for Merlin’s sake! Meanwhile, she was the girl who would pretend to be professors to pull pranks and end up in detention with a Howler from home the next day.
Not to mention the issue of Sirius. She had never known exactly what had gone on between Remus and her cousin in the past. But, after Remus’s reaction to Sirius’s death, she was fairly certain their relationship had not been strictly platonic. These thoughts of Sirius caused her to shake even more. A few stray tears slid down her cheeks. It was her fault he was dead.
She relived the fight at the Department of Mysteries every day. Her biggest failure. What could she have done differently? What curses or hexes had she forgotten? If she had been a better dueler, a better Auror, would Sirius still be alive today? Surely, Remus had asked himself similar questions. So, Tonks resigned herself to the sad truth: even if Remus felt anything towards her, he would never want to be with the witch whose incompetence had led to the death of one of the only people on Earth he had ever loved.
Her minute was up. Tonks pushed herself off of the floor. She leaned over the sink and stared in the mirror. Her hair, which often involuntarily changed color to reflect her mood, had reverted to its natural mousy brown. Right now, she possessed neither the desire nor the energy to turn it back to pink. With one hand still gripping the basin of the sink, she turned on the faucet. For a moment, she just stood there, listening to the water run. She took a deep breath and splashed a few handfuls of cold water on her face. Returning to the bedroom, she was determined to force any longing thoughts concerning Remus from her mind. Constant vigilance, she repeated to herself, policing her stream of consciousness in order to banish all romantic inclinations. Although, somehow, she was certain this was not quite what Mad-Eye had had in mind when he coined the phrase.
“You should try and get some sleep,” she remarked as she exited the bathroom, feigning a casual tone. “You take the bed. I’ll put some blankets on the floor.”
He propped himself up on his elbows to look at her properly. “Don’t be ridiculous, Tonks. You just saved my life. You’re not sleeping on the floor. This is a king-sized bed, there’s plenty of room for the both of us.”
Great, just great. Why did this man have to be so goddamn chivalrous? So much for ignoring the mess going on in her brain and…other regions… Sharing a bed was not going to make this situation any easier. Maybe if she possessed more willpower, she would have told him no—insisted that she sleep on the floor, or went downstairs to check out another room. But she didn’t. Instead of making what would have undoubtedly been the more responsible decision, she began to remove her shoes and bloodstained clothes to join the half-naked subject of her pining under the blankets.
The two partners sat in silence for a prolonged moment, both staring up at the ceiling to avoid meeting the other’s gaze. Tonks mentally kicked herself. This was getting ridiculous. There was no reason why she should be acting like a schoolgirl. She was an Auror: an elite wizarding warrior. She ate Death Eaters for breakfast. Surely, she held the capacity to brave the awkward territory into which they were entering. She turned to face him, sitting herself crisscross with her feet on the mattress. “So…love potion, eh?”
He chuckled lightly, relieved at the break in the tension. “I suppose I did promise you a bedtime story, didn’t I?”
“It really is the least you could do. Seeing as I saved your life and all, Lupin.”
“Fair enough, but I’m afraid I made the tale sound a lot more interesting than it actually was.”
Tonks raised her eyebrows. “Spill.”
“In my 5th year, some admirer of Sirius’s—I should note he had plenty of them—gave him some fire whiskey for Christmas. I told him not to drink it. Naturally, I assumed he had tossed it out after my warning. But then, one night, he and I were in our room and fancied a drink. Sirius opened a bottle of fire whiskey, which, as you can probably guess, was the bottle he had received from the girl. We drank it. Needless to say, when Peter and James found us later that evening, we were in quite a state—blabbering on about a ‘Michelle Thompson’ or something like that. We had started a duel over which one of us would get to ask her to Hogsmeade. I had cast Levicorpus and Sirius was hanging upside-down in mid-air when they arrived. Well, James and Peter had a right laugh, but then, being the good friends that they were, used James’s invisibility cloak to sneak down to the Dungeons and fix up an antidote. When I came to, they told me what had happened. Obviously, I was quite reluctant to drink or eat anything Sirius offered me for a long time after that.”
Tonks giggled. “Sounds like something Sirius would do, drink something given to him by a strange woman without thinking. Reminds me of the time Charlie Weasley almost ate a tainted chocolate frog before a Quidditch match. Some Slytherin bloke had them delivered by owl the morning before the game. Unmarked. I had to slap it out of his hand! Turns out it was filled with undiluted Bubotuber pus! He would’ve been out commission for weeks! But, even after we found all that out, he was still cross with me for ruining his chocolate frog! How thick can you be?!? I mean I know sometimes Mad-Eye’s methods are a bit out there, but, you’ve gotta admit, the bloke’s got a point about never eating or drinking something you didn’t make yourself.” Tonks was cracking up, fondly remembering the look of innocent disappointment on Charlie’s face. She snorted. Her hands instantly flew to cover her mouth, eyes wide. What kind of noise was that? She didn’t even have her pig snout on!
To her surprise and delight, Remus smiled and laughed alongside her. For a second. Suddenly, the weight of death hung heavy in the room. Their laughing ceased. The pair looked away from each other once again.
“You and Sirius were close, huh,” Tonks remarked, emotionless. She turned back to face him. He gave a quick nod, still avoiding meeting her gaze. She would not pry.
“You know, in some ways, you’re very much like him. You both have the same devil-may-care attitude, the same penchant for troublemaking.”
She noticed he used the present tense.
“I’d never met him before the Order. Mum was banished from the family once she married Dad, y’know. But if she ever mentioned the Blacks, she would tell me he was her favorite,” Tonks reminisced.
She remembered the last days she had spent with Sirius at Number 12 Grimmauld Place. They had laughed and drank themselves silly, destroying as many Black Family heirlooms as they could get their hands on. She had asked him for advice about her Order missions—not because she had really required it, but because she could tell her questions made him feel needed. She was pretty sure he known then about her developing crush on Remus. But, he showed no signs of jealousy or animosity towards her. Instead, he would flash sly smiles and wink at her whenever Remus was near. “Moony’s a good bloke,” he had cryptically remarked during one of their final afternoons together, after he had caught her staring.
Those conversations with her now-dead cousin seemed ages away. The guilt resurfaced once again, swelling in her chest, snapping her back to the present.
“It’s not your fault,” Remus gently whispered. Feeling tears pricking in her eyes, she furiously blinked, attempting to ebb their flow.
“That he’s…that he died. It isn’t. Bellatrix was after Sirius. I hate to admit it, but she may be a better dueler than the whole Order put together. She would have gotten him regardless, it was all set up. She would have done anything to kill him. She hated him. If it’s anyone’s fault that Sirius is dead, it’s mine. I should have known something was wrong. I should never have let him leave that house.”
“But he was dying there, too,” Tonks replied, her voice breaking. “He was dying every day he couldn’t be out fighting with us. There was nothing anyone could have done. He had to leave that house eventually. I would have done the exact same thing. It’s a shame we all didn’t wise up sooner.”
Another heavy silence filled the room. “He told me you were a good man, Remus.”
Silence again. And then, “He said the same about you.”
She raised a questioning eyebrow.
He continued. “I mean, clearly, you are a very kind, very beautiful woman…” he trailed off. Some part of Tonks was elated that he had called her beautiful. Another part was ashamed for feeling elated. They were discussing a dead guy, for Merlin’s sake!
His next remark was so quiet she wasn’t sure he had really spoken at all. “He said he approved.”
“Approved of what?”
Instead of responding to her question, he said: “I told you earlier that you’re a lot like him. But you are different in many ways, too.”
“Oh?” She tried to hide some of her disappointment. Was this his way of telling her he wasn’t interested?
He stared intensely into her eyes. “Sirius tried to do everything in his power to distance himself from expectations. He worked very hard to be seen as different, and cared very much about how others saw him, despite appearances. But you don’t feel bound by anyone’s expectations. You don’t care what others think of you. You’re unapologetically whoever you want to be, your own person. You’re unique, Dora. It’s one of the things I love most about you.”
She couldn’t quite remember what had followed. An infinitesimal shift of a body. A creak of a bed spring. A gentle kiss. Then more. She briefly broke away. “I think I’m in love with you, Remus.”
He pulled her closer into him, now both sitting up. Their kisses deepened, becoming frantic and hungry—quite unlike any kisses she had experienced before. Careful not to disturb his still-healing wounds, she ran her hands over the uninjured parts of his chest, feeling the lean muscle below her fingertips. She felt his hands respond in turn. Electricity coursed through her veins. All thoughts fled her mind. It was just the two of them, wrapped up together on the old hotel bed. She glanced at him in between breathless kisses, questioning. He met her eyes and nodded. “I think I’m in love with you too, Dora.”
They both grinned as she straddled him, as gently as she could…
Tonks gazed at the sleeping man beside her, attempting to memorize every feature of his face. He looked so peaceful, so carefree, when he slept. There was no telling what would happen when he woke: if he would express regrets, tell her he couldn’t be with her, admit he had made a mistake. Maybe she was a daft idiot for sleeping with her partner. Maybe he would reject her, using their age difference or his werewolf status as excuses for why they would never work. She honestly didn’t know what she would do if he said any of those things. It could be the beginning or the end for them. But at this moment, she forced herself to remain in the present, to remain in the warmth of Remus, his arms wrapped protectively around her waist. She kissed his forehead before dozing off into a blissful, dreamless sleep. Free.

Lol i want to rant about wolfstar/remadora BECAUSE I WANT TO
Okay, firstly. I ship both. One is past one is present. I'm not gonna tell why i ship remadora bc they are a perfect ship as much as it's possible. So, why do i ship wolfstar or how do i hc them? Actually, i think they were like..flirting but not something serious. You know, "i'm flirting with him but i have no fucking idea if i actually like like him" sirius/james is more like "everyone is gay for their same sex bff" I know they wouldn't be healthy and there is canon proof of that (the prank which is not a prank but a murder attempt with betrayal, and i think after this they started to not trust each other) Sirius was a jerk and James was a jerk Remus was the real mastermind behind REAL WEASLEY TYPE PRANKS but never really said something about other ones bc he had probably the lowest of lowest self-esteem Peter was the real jerk Peter stayed a jerk and become a coward and a slave Remus got screwed bc of his old friends and still had hell-level self-esteem Sirius grew up but not really James grew up and got married with the woman he didn't let go(a big no no, still somehow better than racist-stalker) I mean i don't know this post was about wolfstar and remadora but i don't know what it is anymore All of jk's characters was heavily flawed And to all those wolfstar shippers that doesn't acknowledge Tonks' existence, REMUS LUPIN WAS NOT GAY, SORRY BUT THE ONLY TWO SEXUALITIES HE CAN'T BE ARE ASEXUALITY AND HOMOSEXUALTY BC TONKS AND TEDDY, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE CAN'T BE DEMISEXUAL(yes please), BISEXUALITY, POLYSEXUALITY, PANSEXUALITY OR WHATEVER AND REMADORA SHIPPERS PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT REMUS LEFT HIS PREGNANT WIFE ALONE, AND HE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER BUT I WOULD STILL SLAP HIM AND STOP FETISHISING BOTH SHIPS THEY ARE NOT THERE FOR YOUR FETISHES AND BE AWARE THAT SIRIUS CAN BE ANY FUCKING SEXUALITY BC JK DOESN'T FOCUS ON IT, STOP MAKING HIM GAY AND NOTHING ELSE(give me asexual sirius) AND LIKE I SAID EVERY FUCKING CHARACTER HAS FLAWS STOP ACTING LIKE YOURS IS PERFECT, THEY ARE NOT. AND STOP BULLYING OTHER PEOPLE, DON'T BE LIKE YOUNG JAMES AND OLD SNAPE.
