A/N: Hello~! I was bored and my head was going crazy with some obey me scenarios so, I decided to make one of them come to life! I hope you enjoy this and don't mind my grammar too much... Also, it would be very helpful if you guys could give me some chapter names If you want ofc I would appreciate it a lot^^ But yea- I'ma shut up now. I hope you enjoy this~!!

Preview: You were about to close your eyes to start another day, ready to get some peaceful sleeping. Or so you thought before you could even get comfier in the mattress you teleported into a mysterious place seeing many people staring down at you for staring at you, you're very annoyed at the loss of sleep due to whatever the hell is going on here, but, you decide to wait but not for long for the answers to come to you. And they do! Turns out you're an exchange student for this program to unite Demons, Angels, and Humans! Isn't that fun! totally not questioning, and scary- Who knows who you'll meet or what might come your way but, it'll all be worth it to unite Demons, Angels, and Humans I hope...

This is just my take on the storyline with a hinch of my Mc's personality and appearance maybe if I'm feeling it... but everything for the Mc is up to your imagination!

What to expect: The chapters not coming very fast or at the time you want them I'm still in school. I still have exams, tests, and more.

The first chapter coming out very late as to when this will be posted. I'm posting this hella early before I'm fully finished with the first chapter. But, I'll edit this post to notify you when I finally post chapter 1:))

A/N: Hello everyone!

I hope you're all doing well today. I'm excited to share my "Obey Me!" SMau (Social Media AU) with you. It's been a while since I've been able to work on something like this, and I'm thrilled to finally bring it to life.

Before we dive in, I want to clarify a few things. Firstly, please forgive any grammar or spelling errors you might encounter while reading. Writing isn't my strongest subject, but I've put a lot of effort into this series, and I hope you'll enjoy it regardless. Additionally, this is my first "Obey Me!" fic, so I'm not too experienced in the storyline.

With that said, let's talk about what you can expect from this series.

First and foremost, the main character (MC) is gender-neutral, with they/them pronouns. I thought this would be the best way to approach the story, as it allows the reader to fully immerse themselves in the world without any preconceptions.

The series is set in a world where demons, angels, and humans all exist together. You'll follow the MC as they navigate this new and exciting world as an exchange student, working towards uniting these three groups. However, it won't be an easy journey, as there are sure to be many obstacles and challenges along the way.

As for the format of the series, I'll be including tweets and text messages throughout. This will allow you to get a better sense of the characters and their personalities, as well as keep the story engaging and dynamic.

Now, for the not-so-great news. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not the best when it comes to writing, so there will likely be quite a few grammatical errors throughout the series. Additionally, I'm still in school, so the chapters won't be coming out as quickly as you might like. The first chapter will be posted quite late, so I appreciate your patience in advance.

Finally, I want to mention that I'm still very new to Tumblr, so creating a masterlist and doing other things that will benefit the series will be a bit of a challenge for me. However, I promise to do my best and keep you updated on any changes or updates to the series.

Overall, I'm really excited to share this "Obey Me!" SMau with you all. It's been a labor of love, and I can't wait for you to read it. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm always looking for ways to improve and make the series more enjoyable for everyone.

I came from a country where being gay is not illegal but still very badly seen so what Eric did to me came off as spoiled and privileged. Nigerian men risk their lives every time they try to live and he just comes on a holiday risk for nothing and get a high out of it like... I get he is a poc in uk so racism but he is still privileged in respect to Nigerian living there and it felt like when tourists do all they want and use foreign countries as a eat pray love playground for adrenaline and Deep Moments

thanks for having partially confirmed to me one thing i didn’t quite know how to articulate and again i don’t… right with the premise that ofc not being poc and/or lgbt myself so my opinion is worth what it’s worth i felt like not only it made eric come off as privileged and not quite realizing it - or if it was the target then it wasn’t well written nor did it come across well - the points that imvho are not well put in this entire narrative are the following

let’s say one target was ‘we want eric to reconnect with the nigerian part of his heritage and realize that being gay in the uk is a privileged position in comparison to being gay in nigeria’: there is a single moment where he feels unsafe on the car but then he goes into the bar and it was played as… like THRILLING WILL WE GET CAUGHT OR NOT but i didn’t perceive that he felt in danger or like he realized exactly what he was facing

the whole family reconnection part was like… his mom lied about her husband bc family peace and kind of forces him to not be out bc she fears for his safety so like now unless i remember wrong eric has been out/never felt like he didn’t have to be since the show started so it should have a) given him insight re how it feels to NOT being able to be out b) let his mom connect with him on having to lie abt your significant other part c) concluded with at least a hint he could come out to nigerian family and like… point b) was more or less explored, c) was hinted bc he talked to his grandma abt adam but a) felt ABSOLUTELY missing because he comes back and everything he seems to gather from it is I WANT TO GO TO BARS BECAUSE I CAN? and most of all……. going through a) should have made him more sympathetic to adam’s struggles and instead it seemed like he deduced ‘oh since in nigeria it’s illegal then it makes no sense he’s taking so much time’ like…? it’s… a pretty self centered take to get out of this entire experience and if it was a check your privilege storyline then good but… it didn’t feel like that was how they framed honestly and why talking abt adam to the grandma if he’s gonna dump him????

now the eat pray love thing you mentioned is… i mean i felt like it was along those lines but as stated couldn’t be sure re my take but again my issue is with how they went at it, bc you CAN do that narrative if you clearly frame it as ‘we like eric and he’s a swell guy but he’s not free from that kinda behavior in light of the fact that living in the uk gives him automatic privilege wrt being out so we’re going to explore how he deals with it and it might be badly but then he learns from it and checks his privilege’ like it’s smth that can happen and everyone in this show has been shitty wrt smth at some point which is good bc it means everyone is written realistically… i’m not sure the narrative said THAT but it didn’t look like even the writers knew bc it was all over the place?? and i mean… i get that this show has realistic teenagers which means they can behave like petty assholes but like it was rushed, badly explained, not overt re wtf they wanted to do with this storyline and it’s not clear if eric even cares at the end?? and thats ooc anyway bc the eric we saw until this point isn’t… that callous or dismissive? and it never seemed to me like they wanted to write him as positive char that progressively gets less sympayhetic so honestly this entire plotline looks stupid

like the thing is at the end of it: - has eric reconnected to his nigerian heritage/found a way to balance it with his uk background? doesn’t seem to me like he did - has eric concluded anything re telling the nigerian side of his family that he’s out? no - has eric gained some actual insight from his experience that’s not ‘I want to go to bars because I can and I have no patience for someone who needs to take it slower’? doesn’t seem to me like he did - has eric realized that adam not being ready to tell his own mom stuff was a sort of parallel situation to his own mother not being ready to tell her mom stuff and like... if eric’s own mom lied about her partner to her family for years and still wasn’t ready to do it then why is giving adam a bit more time to tell his own mom especially given his less than stellar background re accepting himself and coming out such a hardship? no and we just don’t know basically this entire plotline could have gone a bunch of different places that were interesting/could have caused strong conflict/interesting storytelling but it didn’t do any of these things and fell back on like... cheap drama for the sake of it and honestly idt it was very sensitive wrt anything included in it which honestly strikes me as odd bc if sex ed ever did one thing right was treating sensitive subjects well without dancing around it or making things sugarcoated and still letting the characters not be cardboards so I’m very very perplexed about it and I just hope they plan to reveal wtf they wanted it to be next year because honestly I don’t know what it wanted to be and if they didn’t make it clear it’s not good writing - which until now they had in spades, therefore....

like, there’s nothing... narratively wrong in ‘I want to show that character X who faces racism and homophobia in the UK would have privilege wrt being able to be out/live his sexuality without shame in the UK and not in the country his family comes from and he has no idea because he hasn’t entertained that thought and he might come off as unpleasant or incapable of immediately getting it while that happens’, but the thing is that in this specific narrative it’s not clear whether eric got it or if he didn’t bc teenagers are shallow and don’t get it (which..... I mean the teens in this show aren’t exactly shallow like that so that doesn’t really hold up) or if he’s having trouble processing it or if the trip shook his entire world (didn’t seem like it) so like... I should hope next season it’s addressed what they want this thing to be because honestly idk and I don’t particularly like the direction it took

this adding that anyway again the way they broke eric and adam off like that makes the whole S2 finale look sour and eric come off like an asshole also wrt rahim because I mean, one thing is ‘eric has been in love with adam/has liked adam best all along but adam wasn’t around and he liked rahim so he gave it a shot but rahim wasn’t it for him so when adam does the great love gesture for him in front of everyone he decides to leave rahim for him’ because like that sucked for rahim anyway but it also wouldn’t have been fair to him to not break it off if eric had stronger feelings for someone else (and that was clear from the get-go) and then when they get together eric puts effort in it and they go places, one thing is ‘all of that happens but then the moment they aren’t on the exact same page and/or eric realizes he doesn’t want to put the necessary effort into respecting the time adam needs to handle his things even when adam forgives him and says he’ll try to get on track with him’ and so the solution is nah let’s break up instead of putting some work into it when ngl adam has been doing 85% of that this season................. it makes him look like the moment there’s an obstacle to a relationship he’s in or his partner isn’t on the same wavelength he’d just rather break it off first instead of giving it a go and that’s not a really great look on him and as stated it makes the thing with rahim look really bad because again one thing is leaving someone you like for someone who feels like is the love of your life and another thing is leaving someone you like for someone who loves you that much but then you’ll leave them too because..... he needs time to talk to his mother and he’s not ready to be fully out when he comes from repressingyourfeelingsinternalizedhomobiphobia central? like........ dunno but it just feels sour and like nothing one would expect out of eric as he was written/developed until now so I’mma just wait to see what they do next season but it’s just not good writing all around

Okay i need your honest opinion,,,what do you think about Hawk/Demetri possibly going canon in s4 or later seasons? do you think it’d actually happen? as much as i’d love for it to happen considering Jacobs past history I feel like he’d be a little iffy playing a LGBTQIA+ character but who knows maybe he’d be fine with it! I just wanted to know your opinion on it :)

Oh this is a great question!

Some general information for those reading this. The showrunners have apparently said they want to do 5-6 seasons (or at least that’s the rumour) .The seasons are 10 episodes, with an episode length of 30-45 ish minutes.

There’s a couple of issues with it going canon, first Demetri and Hawk have to mend their friendship. I’ve made posts in the past about how I don’t think they’ll talk about it because Eli’s autistic and it makes no sense for them to have a long drawn out talk(which I stand by). With that being said Hawk has to use actions to show Demetri he’s not going to hurt him again I mean honestly he broke his fucking arm. So that has to happen then Hawk has to mend his relationship with Miguel they need to talk or at least spend some quality fucking time together. Then Hawk has to gain the trust of Sam and all the other Miyagi-Do’s (or at least put in some effort).

Hawk has a lot of character development to go through in season 4 and as much as I’d love my little ship to go canon for the sake of the character Hawk needs to get his mask off and become the mix of Hawk and Eli he truly is. (Which is going to take a long time coming from an autistic person it’s really fucking hard to unmask once you’ve built one).

Moving on from that we have Yasmine is she more then a simple crush?does Demetri have real feelings for her? If so the scenario would go Demetri dates Yas then realizes he’s into Eli? then they do a long storyline about that (jealousy)and he finally gets with Hawk? It’s going to take forever and it’s played the fuck out, I’m tired of it as a queerdude, no more weird jealous sad queer waiting, hoping desperately that his friend will love him back. no thanks.

I don’t think we’ll get Hawk and Demetri especially if they keep up the Yas storyline. Realisticly I don’t think Hawk will get another love interest (at least not next season).

While they are important characters and part of the main cast this show is about Johnny, Daniel, Miguel, Sam and Robby at its core.

Addressing Jacob, I don’t think Jacobs feelings about playing a queer character would factor in, if the creators want to do it they’ll do it. While Jacob has been a shitty person he’s very career driven he’s done role after role and I’m sure he knows playing a queer character will gain him an incredibly loyal fanbase despite his past repulsive behaviour.“Willing” to play a queer character is only going to become more desirable to networks and the industry.

Hi, I’m not trying to be rude but I was just wondering if why if you like criminal minds you don’t want it to come back? xx

This is a perfectly valid question! It’s kind of obvious with the timing and everything that the new season is more of a cash grab than anything, and from what it sounds like, it’s just a continuation of the previous storyline? Basically, it’s not being made because the writers really love the show and want to make amazing episodes, it’s made because they want money so i’m really nervous about the actual quality of the writing. Plus, with the final few seasons the writers seemed to get really desperate and the show kind of nosedived in quality. I’m not sure how they’re planning to remedy this (or even if they will.)

I’d rather wait a while for someone who really loves the show to bring it back to life, because then there would be effort put into the show to make it as good as it can be, and so it makes sense. i feel like with the ending we got, it doesn’t make sense for it to come back and continue the current storyline.

That being said, in ten years or so if someone decided to reboot the show with a new cast and possibly new characters, I don’t think I would mind. If that happened, i think the show would have a new life and start fresh, instead of beating a dead horse for more shitty episodes,

Outer Banks - review

first of all, don’t get ya panties in a twist. no, i don’t think outer banks is a shitty show. at least not at first sight.

so first let’s begin with the vibes, more formally known as the setting. I think the setting is what makes this show so successful. it definitely passed vibe check. the ocean, the hot and sticky air, with just a light breeze and the freedom the main characters have, remind us all of that one summer, we’d give everything to relive. It was that feeling of complete freedom and it felt like what being a teenager should feel like. So just the world these characters live in captures our attention.

now, is the show realistic? No. But that’s not why we watch shows either. we watch shows to escape our trivial every-day-lives. The producers/writers clearly tried to make it at least a lil realistic. Like the fact that Kies parents at least try to keep her safe and do ground her sometimes. But other than that they could try to make it at least a bit more realistic. Liiiiike the scene where John D chases a fkn plane that is building up speed to take off, with is goddamn van, that would probably break down if it took a turn that was a lil too sharp. They were acting like john d was Jason Bourne or some shit. There were some scenes that were a lil too mission impossible (that is MY OPINION, blink).

Okay now to the characters. Let’s be real we’ve seen about a thousand variations of each of these characters. John B is Percy Jackson, Harry Potter and every other main character with a stick up his ass and a hero-complex. Maybe with a hint of humor. I said HINT. So verdict: BORING.

But no one watches shows for the main characters. Side characters carry always carry the show. So here comes Kiara. I can’t lie she isn’t the most interesting character either. She is the Hermione, smart, reliable, responsible, confident but still adventurous along with a strong sense of justice. Plus most likely lesbian, which could be a really interesting story line. If the writers would have put more effort into her character she could have been really interesting. She is still a very likable and adorable character. Verdict: Victim of poor writing.

Now on to the one everyone has been waiting for. JJ. originally JJ is introduced to us as comic relief. The Ron of the group, but farther on we get to know him better, which makes him the best character of the show. The writers finally decided to give a someone some fkn depth. His of course tragic past and constant struggle make us feel for him. The way he acts around his friends makes perfect sense. I think we can all relate to being the funny friend around our friends to make sure no one notices how we really feel. Also his character motivation makes sense. He doesn’t have any family or anything to loose so he doesn’t have a sense of caution and he will do everything and anything for his friends because they are his whole world and he wants to be something to someone. By the way this man is definitely gay no fkn question about it and has a FAT crush on Pope. The love, care, dedication, affection he shows for that man is ridiculous. ( for all the jiara shippers y’all have absolutely no foot to stand all y’all just think they would look cute together, cus y’all are straight, blind and are not used to reading into gay subtext.) Verdict: gay and well written for a teen show.

And lastly on to my favorite character with absolutely no competition. The one and only Pope. Pope is easily the most realistic character and least overused character-stencil. He has ambitions as well as a strong feeling to be loyal to his friends. he is constantly torn between doing what’s right for him or being true to his roots. Pope is the most likable character, smart, loyal, caring, respectful, dad of the group and absolutely adorable with his passions and interests. his innocent crush on Kiara shows who he really is. Pope is one character I was really rooting for throughout the whole show. I just really wanted him to do well in that fkn interview and not get arrested. I could see him in the future noticing that he may be bi lol. anyway verdict: a solid character, likable and deserves more screen time next season.

overall their friendship works really well together. They all have great chemistry as actors i think. the relations between the characters make sense. their friendship is adorable and made me smile throughout the whole season. one thing I would like to point out is that, the humor fits very well to the group, the jokes aren’t visible planned or too thought out. the jokes seem very natural and are delivered well as well. Which makes everything more believable. even just some tiny exchanges or interactions show the lovely friendship so well and makes everyone wish they were part of the friendship

storyline:

did it make sense? more or less tbh. I mean for a lost treasure they did alright. there were some plotholes. like the fact that sarah would rather die that live without a person she met 2 days ago. they could of built up rafe as a threat throughout the whole season, he was introduced kinda late. the whole police search thing was maddddd unrealistic.

What should happen next season:

jj should notice, that he has a fat fucking crush on Pope and question his sexuality.

kiara should tell pope that she doesn’t like him like that and that she only kissed him cause she was so lost and needed some kind of stability.

Sarah should start to push John B away, because of her commitment issues, while they are in the Bahamas. That would be an interesting story line to see haw they deal with that.

rafe and berry should date looool, no or maybe. idk the should focus more on rafe, because he has a really interesting motivation and character.

and thats that, final score 7/10

Top 5 Male Characters

Thanks @eowima for tagging me! A chance to gush, yay 🤣🤗

Peter Parker. Probably one of my favourite characters ever, forget just male character. He’s awkward, he’s adorable, and he’s just genuinely such a nice guy you kind of can’t help falling in love with him. What’s great about him is that he’s genuinely developed through the movies, from a goofy kid who just wants to impress Tony Stark, to... well, still a goofy kid, but a proper Avenger, too. (Tony said it, it’s canon.) And throughout it all - because man, is there a throughout it all - he’s managed to stay himself. And the thing about Peter is, himself is just such a great person - selfless, brave, sweet and so awkward, but honestly totally deserving of his spot on this list.

Leo Fitz. Oh my gosh, Leo Fitz. First of all, just typing out his name has made me miss him SO MUCH - because come on, AoS, we all really desperately want to see him again!! And not even just the fans - even the team is missing him by now. Seriously.

Second of all, you know how I said I like characters who have gone through significant journeys in their shows/movies? WELL. Fitz has come unbelievably far in this series - from an actual cinnamon roll adorkably obsessed with monkeys to this confident, downright heroic agent. And yes, he’s had his hiccups *cough Framework cough* but on the whole Fitz has also managed to stay true to his wonderful and sweet personality.

Also - and this cannot not be mentioned, because Iain de Caestecker himself said it - Fitz and Simmons are a package deal. They come together. Always. And if that isn’t the sweetest thing literally ever, I don’t know what is.

For a moment there, I had my doubts about putting him on this list - but then I decided, no, you can’t have a list of favourite male characters without Phil Coulson. Because yes, he is in an... interesting place in the moment (dead??? LMD??? Computer??? who even knows anymore...) but in the end, whatever the situation is now, Coulson is an incredible character.

He’s also been through quite the journey, from, you know, DYING, to, you know, DYING AGAIN (for realsies this time... except NOT, because next thing you know, there’s a creepy space alien thingy who looks just like him. Wait, no, then he dies. Wait, no, then we have LMD Coulson. Wait, no, then HE dies! Wait, no then we have... what, again?? TV Coulson??)

ANYWAY. The point is, everybody loved Coulson so much that they could never kill him. And, I mean, fair. The guy is probably the funniest, sweetest, nerdiest spy dad you could ever imagine! He’s great, seriously. Even if his storyline has gotten more than a little crazy. (But to be fair, at this point, who’s hasn’t?!?!)

#CoulsonLives (for the 2819263178264th time, because hey, he deserves it. Philindaisy forever.)

Lincoln Campbell. Probably one of the most underrated guys on all of AoS. People love to hate on Lincoln and call him “boring,” but if you actually go look at things, he was anything but.

First of all, yes, he did have a shitty past. But do you know what the most important thing is? He owned that, and he spent the rest of his life trying to make up for it by helping people. And while that certainly doesn’t excuse any of the crappy life choices he made, it does tell you a lot about his character.

Second of all, he’s a really nice guy. I mean, really nice. Sure, he was Daisy’s transitioner in Afterlife, but I’m fairly sure he didn’t have to go to all that effort to be her friend, too. But he still did it. Why? Because he’s a nice person who genuinely cares. And that is... way underrated.

Third of all - P O W E R S. Who wouldn’t want Inhuman powers, let alone ones as cool as Lincoln’s? He can shoot literal electricity from his hands. (I digress.)

Fourth of all, he has a great sense of humour - and that is always a selling point for me. That, and terrible puns. And if you combine that with snark and sarcasm, and an actor as cute as Luke Mitchell? Well.

Lastly but definiitely not leastly (leastly? Is that even a word? ANYWAY.) Lincoln also had a pretty good journey on the show. From being reluctant to join SHIELD to basically co-leading the Secret Warriors with Daisy to sacrificing his life to save the world, there’s a lot that can be said about his arc here. But I’ll cut myself off before I go into literal hundreds of words and just say, he’s great.

Mack!! Gosh, I love him so much. He’s another one of those characters who stole my heart pretty much immediately by just being himself - remember how nice he was to Fitz back in Season 2? Yeah. I was an instant fan.

And gosh, has he had a journey on this show. From double agent for that whole Real SHIELD mess to trying to quit (about 200 times lol) to becoming the actual Director of SHIELD, Mack has come unbelievably far in this show. (And he’s even gotten himself a really cool girlfriend. But that’s not the point.)

The point is, Mack is a genuinely great guy, and I absolutely love him to pieces. The end.

... I just realised, looking back on it, that this post has basically become a Guys of Shield appreciation list. And I would apologise, but... I’m really not sorry. The guys of SHIELD are awesome. (Sorry I couldn’t fit you in on here, Deke. Or you, Sousa - we’ve only had you for a few episodes but I already love you.)

alternatively titled: caution: white sensibility ahead

right off the bat i have to say, as a non-muslim, non-black woc i see that this isn’t my place to go on about representation and what the season did good or bad in that regard. i’m pretty sure other black and/or muslim fans have already put their thoughts about this season, so i will focus on the story as a whole, but if you’re black and/or muslim and you can correct me/add on anything that i say, just know that i’ll be really greatful to hear your insight as i didn’t really interact w the fandom discourse at the time this season was airing.

what did skamfr s4 do better than the original:

alright this is a touchy subject for reasons i just established... so i won’t be talking about any rep, just storylines/characters but i’m warning you. there’s not a lot on this section

the addition of imane’s dad is really refreshing, as it gave me a reason to connect more deeply to her that i did to sana on og. i like the contrast of having a parent that you can generally confide to, vs a parent that tends to make things more difficult and it’s hard to open up to them bc of their judgement and expectations. it serves well on the theme of the season, and the scene where imane’s mom finally trusts on imane and her judgement, oh that’s SUCH a good scene. the acting and the pacing and the music, all of it was great and it made me so emotional lol

i like some addition of scenes like, that scene where imane gets pissed off by idriss and sofiane goes to her room and has this very endearing, intimate moment in which he confides to her through her door, that’s a really good scene too. good pacing and good dialogue! but like... i will come back to this later so, sigh:/ another scene i like is the one where imane hangs out w jamila and her other muslim friends, i don’t think og ever gave us sana hanging out w other muslims besides jamilla and her family. and that’s the moment where imane gets to complain about how muslim men are the ones who can be with non-muslim girls, that imo came more naturally than sana just mentioning it to her mom

i like that both sofiane and imane had their shared love and talent for dancing. their little date before sofiane left, that was a really beautiful scene.

i guess as skamfr made a tiny effort to establish emma as manon’s best friend on s3 that means that imane and manon aren’t as close as sana and noora were in og, so i really liked that imane was honest w manon and told her the secret the girls were keeping from her. i think that’s one of the only choices that imane made before the last episode that weren’t villanized, lol

what did skamfr do worse than og:

i don’t even know where to begin.... okay, i’ll do it by saying that my main problem with this season is the exact opposite w one of my biggest problems w s2: while on s2 all of manon’s flaws were never properly acknowledged/never became a problem for her during the season, here everything bad seems to happen just because imane and everything is about how Flawed and Bad she is to everyone. and it’s especially annoying when imane does incredibly questionable stuff that sana never did, and with such a shitty justification of “i was jealous”. it feels like skamfr’s need to have this huge drama and confrontation scenes led them to write imane a little bit ooc in some places and it ruins imane and the girl squad to me.

sofiane... as a whole. look, yousana is my favorite relationship in skam, and i didn’t exactly have high hopes for imane and sofiane, but their buildup was good. as i said, scenes like the one i mentioned on the above section really helped to make me like their dynamic and i really liked how they established sofiane as being a very perceptive person, knowing where to push and where to wait and what to say to make imane happy - in the particular scene i mentioned, it was great that he was the one who basically ran after her and knew how to make her feel at ease by being vulnerable to her, it was such a sweet scene as a whole. but then it’s like he shifts completely after imane tells him she can’t be with him bc of her faith. and he just...transforms into someone else, and all of his emotional sensitivity for others was erased. he got with manon literally minutes after giving imane those very intense heart eyes, and the show made such a point about them being way more coupley than yousef and noora ever were - they never behaved like manon and sofiane did, holding hands and going out on dates and shit. even sofiane picking up manon at school, right in front of imane ????????? and what he says towards the end of the season, about him not wanting imane to think that he had real feelings for manon, that’s a straight up lie. his change was so jarring that even on further scenes it didn’t make me root at all for them to be together. image just deserves to move on and find someone who actually respects and loves her

idriss is so ??? he’s way meanier to sana and it doesn’t help that his actor gives such a more mature vibe than elias did. when elias teased sana and he went too far it was expected given his personality, but idriss was either super mean at imane for no reason, always humilliating her in front of his friends, or being the best brother ever. no inbetween lmao. that makes their relationship way less believable than og. also, i’m still not sold on the casting. idriss’ actor just doesn’t look the type elias is, he holds so much seriousness on the way he moves and acts and talks that i can’t take him as the irresponsible brother with some moments of wisdom when his sister is in need.

i found it pretty laughable to have a scene where imane explicitly tells lucas that she didn’t tell him about idriss and elliot bc it’s not her story to tell, when skamfr pulls out drama everywhere by people telling other people things they shouldn’t been communicated in the first place. what’s worse is that it didn’t even feel like a dig at themselves (hello lucas lowkey thanking chloe for outing him to the entire school because “he didn’t have the courage to do it himself”??????)

this season kinda felt like “love simon” (lmao yes this is a dumb comparison but let me continue) as imane’s group barely did any efforts to communicate w her during the season, just to blame her for everything bad happening on their lives when image was at her lowest point. it felt like cheap drama, at the sake of consistent writing of the characters and basically killing any depth given to the girl squad as a whole up until that point

i mean... i have to go in deep with what’s the main conflict of the season, which is the girl squad. first off manon, she was right on the confrontation: the implications of imane contacting charles against manon’s will are way worse here, bc this isn’t about manon leaving london bc charles emotionally isolates her after she’s conflicted about testifying against nico - and basically having to face her trauma again (which is shitty enough), it’s about charles directly dismissing manon’s trauma and feelings and that she should forget about the trial w nico because he “technically didn’t rape her”, all while knowing that his brother is an expert when manipulating people. that means imane forgave charles for the incredibly shitty thing he did, just because she had the impulse after seeing manon and sofiane together? ..............sigh. look, imo contacting william was the shittiest thing that sana ever did on s4: she had reasons to expose sara as she was islamophobic to her and she was a shitty person to everyone in reality, and it was the easiest way to do it without taking the blame and alienating the girl squad against her even more. the acc created to shit on vilde was something she would’ve never seen coming and whatever reasons ingrid had to do it barely played into sana’s actions anyway. but with noora, she betrayed her trust, using the story noora had confided her and only her to get william to explain himself and take her away from yousef. but she also got something that imane didn’t get, which was a moment to realize that what she did was awful before being confronted by noora (that never really happened didn’t it). imane never got that moment, so it’s just hard to believe that she’d be such a bad friend for no reason? with no remorse whatsoever until manon told her that? it’s just.... the show was trying to hard to make imane so mean to the girls for no reason

same w the stuff w ingrid, as i said before, even when sana was wary of sara, she made a conscious effort to get along w them and always gave her the benefit of the doubt until she realized she was right all the time. it’s also a thing of... agency, i guess? as sana decided to join forces w pepsi max... but imane never had that agency, it was the girls who integrated ingrid to the group. there’s never a real effort from the girls to understand why imane is so mean toward ingrid besides “omg but she’s so nice!!!” and it’s just, so telling that daphné told imane that she wanted everyone to be as unhappy as her... why is she such a shitty friend, understanding that imane was unhappy and never making any effort to talk to her in private to know why and try to change that maybe???? and with alexia, she’s the only one who tried approaching imane on private yet she was so judgemental and didn’t really give her a chance to explain herself as she already made up her mind about the entire situation.

basically... whereas in og it made sense why sana behaved that way, and for the most part she felt the consequences of her actions yet the girls still forgave her immediately after she opened up to them, in skamfr imane’s behavior really mirrors her s1 self with how mean she is with no plausible justification for it, and on top of that all of her conflicts revolve around the people who “love” her assuming the worst of her and talking over her so she’s the bad guy of the story

also... this far on the show, season fucking 4, skamfr still has that problem on making conversations go so fast that i can’t even keep up w what they’re saying. thankfully (god the bar is so low) it happens like... in half of the clips? and they get scenes w good pacing and realist dialogue, but even the texts they send each other happen in two seconds, they would benefit SO much if they slowed down a little to show appreciation to the acting and how the reactions can tell as much as dialogue (like hello, otherwise i would just read a transcript. it’s an audiovisual media for a reason)

the kiss at the end :/ knowing what it meant for assa, it was bittersweet watching it, as the scenes w sofiane and imane were the most decent ones. i wish we’d gotten something like the last clip of yousef and sana. it really made me fall in love w that couple bc not only they had really good chemistry, but they talked to each other like friends, and you could tell they both cared and respected the other a lot. i feel like we never really got those moments of them as friends, there was always this need to show their romantic tension or they just discussed their relationship, and sofiane’s drastic change midway through the season really didn’t help to make a sense of his personality and story. also, they skipped the part where yousef opens up more about what religion means to him, that left the door open for him to probably become a muslim again in the future. we never got that closure w sofiane, which made me feel like even though it was a good moment that imane claimed some agency and understood that no one could judge her but allah, she was the only one making sacrifices. and no, sofiane trying to not get his dick wet in a two month trip back home doesn’t count.

tl;dr. oof. i felt so exhausted watching this season, tho that might be that this is an stressful time for everyone, but. shows like these are supposed to be an escape, no? anyways. they had a good setup and some changes were promising, like ingrid being included on the girl group, but the way they tried to elevate the drama killed all of the good things they could’ve done and kinda missed the point of og s4 without saying anything original either. 4/10 i guess.

oh absolutely!!! I’ve got BIG plans for this one, so it’s going to take a while to finish, but I think it’s going to be worth it :)

The concept is very straight foward and I’m sure has been done many times before, but basically the bmc and deh kids go to same school, and the musicals respective storylines occur simultaneously.

Honestly I can’t tell you much about the actual plot yet because I’m still working it out, but the squip and connor project storylines will be very intertwined. The plan is for it to be very character-driven so I can tell you about the pre-existing relationships between the bmc and deh kids instead!

Jeremy and Jared

so I made a post about this a little while ago because I just can’t get the idea out of my head but, Jeremy and Jared have a very antagonistic relationship. I can’t explain why but I feel like Jeremy just... irrationally hates Jared. Like, he has no real reason to hate him, he doesn’t bully him or anything like Rich does, but Jeremy just doesn’t like him. It’s mostly because Jared’s shitty sense of humour and the asshole persona he puts on at school but yeah, Jere just doesn’t like him at all.

On that, Jeremy and Evan are kind of friends, and since Jeremy doesn’t like Jared’s sense of humour he definitely doesn’t like how he talks to Evan sometimes

Teachers always mix them up (wrol Jere rights baby!!) and it drives Jeremy crazy lmao

Also Jared is sort of friends with Rich so like... that understandably doesn’t sit well with Jeremy either

And Jeremy’s irrational hatred of Jared is like... extra funny because Jared is completely oblivious lmao. He barely even knows who Jeremy is.

Also, Jared is pretty friendly with Michael, and Jeremy doesn’t quite realise this yet but perhaps... he is jealous 😳

Jared and Rich

Rich and Jared is an interesing one. I mean, Jared is kind of a loser so originally after getting the SQUIP Rich bullied him too.

Except unlike Jeremy, Michael or Evan, Jared actually talks back to Rich and gives him shit too. We know Jared’s not particulary great at jokes under pressure (what are you, like...an acorn??), but he manages to be snarky enough/put up enough of a cocky front that Rich finds him funny and lays off him a bit

So whilst the SQUIP strongly discourages it, he ends up being sort of friends with Jared. Rich’s SQUIP actually kind of uses it as bribing material a little bit, it will let Rich keep being friends with Jared if he does X task the SQUIP wants him to do. That kind of thing :(

The bullying becomes more friendly teasing that goes both ways. Although sometimes Rich’s SQUIP will make him say some homophoic shit that really fucking hurts, but Jared just lets it slide. Partially because he’s still kind of scared of Rich, partially because he definitely doesn’t want to out himself, but mostly:

Jared’s realised that in addition to not being bullied by Rich himself anymore, his semi-friendship with Rich means Rich tends to leave Evan alone now. Which to Jared is definitely worth half-heartedly laughing at whatever hurtful shit Rich says in order to maintain the friendship.

Jared and Michael

Ok so I also said Jared and Michael are kind of friends.

They’ll become much closer later on in the fic when they can bond over their only friend ditching them for popularity/a chance to be with the girl they’re crushing on and are lowkey obssessed with

But at the beginning they’re not quite friends. They both do IT and they sit together in class, but they don’t really talk about much besides their work.

They do have a bit of a rivalry going on though. They’re the top two students in their IT class so they’re very competitive when it comes to tests/assignments/grades.

Also Jared can tend to be a bit of an attention seeker in class, so he’ll make a lot of stupid remarks and jokes that sometimes Michael can’t help but laugh at. He tries not to though because he doesn’t want to give Jared the satisfaction of knowing Michael thinks he’s funny.

And yeah competiveness/rivalry? Could definitely be interpretted as flirting so I can see why Jeremy might be jealous lmao

oh my god why does literally every character so far have some kind of rivalry with Jared ?? What it is about that boy that made my brain go “yeah all the bmc kids just lowkey wanna throw hands with him” ? idk but the idea is making me laugh. I love Jared but he does get on people’s nerves sometimes

Alana and Jenna

Now THIS is a friendship (or who knows, maybe something more??) I’m very excited about

Just think about it, both girls are actually so similar. They both feel invisible and lonely and like no one really cares about them. And unlike say Evan, who doesn’t really actually try to make other friends, both girls make SUCH an effort to be loud and be seen. Jenna with her gossip and Alana with her extremely bubbly and friendly persona.

I think it’s just a really interesting dynamic since they have very different personalities, but deep down they're both struggling with the same feelings of being invisible and unwanted.

Unlike the other relationships above, Alana and Jenna don’t actually have much of a pre-existing relationship. Mostly because Jenna is popular by association with Chloe/Brooke/Jake/Rich, and Alana is defintely not popular.

But, they grow closer working on The Connor Project together, which Jenna is going to play a big part in.

Jenna is the one who records Evan’s YWBF speech and helps it go viral. Alana then suggests they recruit her to join the project as their social media manager. Evan and Jared are freaking out because the last thing they need right now is for the project to go viral and risk the truth coming out, but eventually they see how much good the project is actually doing and realise that this is so much bigger than themselves now, so agree to let her on board.

Ok this is getting very long now lmao so I’m just gonna share a few more quick thoughts

A lot of people don’t like Alana because they find her very intense. Most people she tries to talk to (eg. Evan/Jared/Jeremy) don’t really engage with her, they’ll just make half-hearted conversation as if they’re just waiting for her to leave already. But one of the few people who is genuinely kind to her and actually listens and doesn’t just brush her off is Michael. So they’ve got a nice relationship. (Connor is one of the other people who is kind to Alana. Ooh also probably Christine too, because I can’t imagine her being anything but kind to anyone)

No one else really knows this, not even Jeremy, but Michael is actually quite affected by Connor’s death. They definitely weren’t friends, Michael honestly knew nothing about Connor, but sometimes if Michael’s having a bad day he likes to skip class and smoke behind the school. And often when he did he’d find Connor there too. They never talked much, mostly just sat in comfortable silence, but sometimes it was nice to just have someone else there. Michael doesn’t like sneaking out to smoke during school anymore because he really feels Connor’s absence. And he can’t help but wonder if anything would be different if he ever made a genuine effort to talk to Connor on those days.

Christine and Jared. That’s it, that’s all I have to say lmao. They’d have the same chaotic energy as post-SQUIP Rich and Jared. Jared’s parents have been bugging him about trying to join some clubs this year, or just do something that will look good on his college applications. Obviously later on that becomes The Connor Project, but at the start of the year he signs up to do tech for the school play. So, that’s how Jared and Christine meet. Jared being Jared does his best to push her away and avoid getting close, but this is Christine we’re talking about, she’s not gonna let that happen that easily. So, they end up becoming friends.

Alright I’m gonna stop this here or else this post will never end, but I’m definitely excited about eventually finishing this one!

I'm watching Friends for the Gazilliont time because let's be honest while this show may not have aged well it was my first fandom (before internet fandom was a thing for me)

And what I love about it is that I have discovered different aspects of it as I have gotten older. Now I know the show has not aged well, and I agree, but it was a show I grew up watching so for me it has that charm.

But what I am posting today is one of its more problematic aspects, Ross.

Because watching the Ross and Rachel storyline in season 3 is sooo upsetting.

Because I am so proud of Rachel for finally getting a job she loves and to see her move beyond the circle of the Friends. Because let's face it, Rachel doesn't actually have friends in her life other than the other main characters. But now she does in the form of Mark, and Sophie and the other staff at Bloomingdale's.

Ross on the other hand seems to resent his girlfriend's new growth. I get that he was jealous of Mark, I can see where his insecurity in that regard is coming from, but the fact that Rachel has to keep reassuring him about it and he keeps bringing it up is a bit of a red flag but not so much as what the 'break' fight was really about.

Ross loves his job, he's passionate about it. Nothing wrong with that. Rachel supports him in it, she even makes an effort to go with him to things even if they bore her.

On the other hand he doesn't think that Rachel could love her job as much as he loves his. In fact since she joined Bloomingdale's he's been turning it into fights. It's obvious that Rachel feels like he's not going to be open to sharing in her profession they way he wants her to share in his. Which is why she didn't invite him to the lecture she was attending, but you can see how happy she was when he said he would go with her. Which is sad when you know he's going to act like a child and ruin it for her.

Then comes the anniversary. It's an important day for them as a couple but she is having a crisis at work. She is thinking of him though and calls ahead to let him know that she's stuck. She tells him very clearly that she could be stuck all night so as not to keep him waiting. Now his turning up at her office with a picnic could be interpreted as a romantic/kind gesture of he had on realising how stressed she was had backed off as she had asked. Heck the better thing to do would be to offer to come pick her up when she got done with the picnic or surprising her with it when she got home.

But what he does is completely ignore the fact that she is actually working, and put his need of having dinner with his girlfriend on their anniversary before her. He doesn't care that he's disrupting her work. And completely ignores her very direct way of tell him that she really doesn't have the time and that she's in the middle of a crisis. But gets upset when she finally has had enough and snaps at him.

If that wasn't bad enough he continues to blame her and her job of his behaviour when she gets home. From their conversation it becomes clear that their problems stem from the fact that Rachel is more independent now, he's offended that she has something that he's not a part of. He brings Mark into the fight even though he had already quit by then. He insults her profession and dismisses it as less important than his. It's no wonder Rachel wants to step back from their relationship to evaluate. Because he's acting like the men she ran away from, who used to dismiss her as a person.

Coming to the 'break'

Whether or not he thought they had broken up, what kind of person sleeps with someone else the same night? Now I personally cannot judge him here, because I know all too well what it's like to be sad an get drunk and do stupid things.

But at no point at all does he own up to it, and just say 'I'm sorry, I fucked up' he instead argues with her says she was the one who initiated a break, and tries to justify sleeping with someone else.

What pisses me off more than anything is that later on when Rachel writes him the letter asking him to take responsibility for his shitty behaviour and infidelity he doesn't. And he never does. Running gag or not is really shitty.

And it all really grinds my gears.

Suicide Mission ( Daryl Dixon x Reader )

Summary: Before the whole world turned to shit, you lived next door to the Dixon’s. You grew really close to the Dixon brothers over the years. You and Daryl quickly becoming best friend, despite your massive crush on him, (which at the time, you didn’t know he returned). You weren’t with him when the outbreak started, but against all odds you managed to find him while helping a random group of strangers on the road. It seemed like fate always found a way, even during the apocalypse.

(Set during Season 3 of TWD and will follow the seasons basic storyline through yours and Daryl’s eyes)

Parings: Daryl Dixon x Reader

Chapter 1:

Before...

When you first met him you were 12... well by 'met him' you mean spotting him watching you from the front porch of his house while you helped your mother and her boyfriend unload the last of the boxes and suitcases, into the house next door.

You and your mother had just moved into the neighbourhood to live with her boyfriend and if you were being honest, you couldn't think of anything worse. That man hated you with a passion. Always glaring at you and yelling at you to get him another beer or to get out of his way. He was nothing like your real father. Your father was the most kind-hearted man you knew, he always had a smile on his face, helped you with your homework, comforted you when you were sad and treated your mother like a queen. He bought out the best in both of you, but after he passed away your mother had changed. She still loved you, that would never change, but she wasn't the same and started wasting money on alcohol and began hooking up with whoever she managed to drag home from the bar that night.

You were used to it though. Waking up in the mornings to go to school to find your mother and a man you had never met before passed out on the couch, empty beer bottles and cigarette butts covering the floor. But after a while you began to find the same guy on the couch with her. He was always at the house and after a few years once you moved into his house, you began to realise your mother was in a very toxic relationship. He controlled her and she did whatever he wanted, but she couldn't leave him, she didn't want to. She needed him, you both needed him otherwise you would end up on the streets. He had money and you guys had nothing and he made damn sure you both knew that. Your mother couldn't afford to keep the house, all her money spent on alcohol and other useless items. So, you didn't argue when she told you to pack your things, glad that you didn't have to live on the streets, but it came at a cost. A pretty big cost.

Her boyfriend, Frank, wasn't the friendliest man. When he got angry, which was pretty often, he would get violent and you always copped the brunt of his anger. It just started off with him yelling at you and throwing things against walls, but after a few months it became physical. You were only 12, you weren't strong enough to protect yourself from him and your mother never stepped in to help whenever he'd start beating you, but you were glad she didn't because if she did then he would do it to her too.

Moving into a new neighbourhood meant moving to a new school, it was only a 20-minute walk down the road from Frank's house. But you hated school, none of the other kids wanted to talk to the weird new girl, but you didn't care. You enjoyed being alone, it was better that way, but you noticed one other kid who seemed to be a bit of a loner like you. Daryl. He would sit at the very back of the class rooms and only spoke when the teacher asked him a question. During lunches he would sit with a few other misfits from class, but he never seemed to join their conversations. A few days later while you walked home from school you realised he was the same boy you had seen earlier that week watching you when you first moved into the house next door.

It wasn't until nearly a year later that the two of you actually spoke for the first time. It happened while you were walking across the road by the traffic lights.

You were waiting for the little green flashing light to appear, so you could cross the road, when Daryl appeared. You both usually met at that crossing, leaving for school at the same time. You gave him a nod as he approached and he nodded in return before you turned back to the road, just as the light turned green.

You began crossing the road, not even thinking to check for cars since your light was green, but Daryl obviously checked because not a second later you heard him shout your name. Suddenly he grabbed the strap of your backpack, pulling you out the way as a familiar red truck sped past you, missing you with only centimetres to spare.

You both fell backwards from the force, landing on the hard cement. He quickly stood up, taking your hand as he helped you to your feet and guided you back onto the safety of the footpath.

"Ya alright?" He asked, quickly pulling his hand away from yours as a slight blush creeped to his cheeks, but you didn't notice. You were still in shock from what just happened. You were nearly hit by a car and Daryl saved your life. Holy shit. "Y/N?" He questioned, snapping you out of your thoughts as you looked over at him and if you weren't mistaken he looked almost concerned.

"Thank you." You suddenly said as you rubbed your face with your hands, trying to get yourself to focus. It's not every day that you nearly get hit by a car. "Seriously, thank you. I would've been roadkill for sure."

"It's was nothin'." Daryl replied with a shrug, picking up your school bag that you didn't even realise you had dropped before he handed it back to you and you smiled. "Wasn't that Frank's truck?" He asked and you sighed, but nodded. Of course Daryl knew who Frank was, everyone down your street knew exactly who he was and stayed away from him, for reasons such as what just happened a few minutes ago.

"Yep. Probably still fucking drunk from last night." You muttered, glancing in the direction of your house before looking back at Daryl who was staring at you with an unreadable look.

"We should probably get to school, we'll be late enough as it is." He said after a few seconds of silence and you nodded, pulling your bag over your back.

"I already got detention, might as well make it worth it." You responded with a laugh causing Daryl to snort with a slight smile before the two of you walked to school together.

After that day, that crossing became your meeting spot and the two of you always walked to school together. Sometimes you would start a conversation about something random, but other times you would walk in silence. It was never awkward though, it was a comfortable silence between the two of you, enjoying each others company as you dreaded the day ahead at school.

You both quickly became good friends. Sitting next to each other during classes, hanging out together during recess and lunch and if one of you got detention the other would make sure they did as well.

You had this unspoken connection between each other and always stuck together. You both lived in abusive homes. Neither of you had to say it out loud for the other to know. You could hear his father yelling and shouting inside their rundown house from your bedroom and the next day after one of his outburst Daryl always rocked up to school with some sort of bruise, it didn't take a rocket scientist to put the connections together. And you knew Daryl would be able to hear Frank yelling and breaking shit in your house most nights, the whole damn neighbourhood probably heard him. But lucky for you, you were able to cover up and hide the bruises he would inflict on you with a little bit of makeup so nobody would ask questions, but Daryl knew. He always knew, but he never said anything, knowing you didn't want to talk about it.

As the years went on, the two of you became closer. You met his older brother Merle and although he seemed like a jackass at first, you soon realised he wasn't as bad as what everyone thought. You hated how he would always pick on Daryl and make fun of him, but you could tell that it was his own screwed up way in showing that he loved him. Merle protected Daryl, looked out for him. He was still a ginormus dick and could get on your nerves very quickly, but he knew how much Daryl cared about you and he made an effort to tone his shit down whenever you were around.

By the time you were in your twenties you were working at the local truck stop serving tables. The pay wasn't great, but it was a job and you needed the money if you ever wanted to get a house, so you and your mother could leave Frank.

You knew soon that Daryl and Merle were gonna leave their father and take off without any destination or plan in mind. They both just wanted to get away from their father and this shitty neighbourhood and you didn't blame them. If you could you would up and leave too, but you couldn't leave your mother here with Frank and Daryl knew that. Which was why early one morning, you were standing outside by Daryl's truck saying goodbye to the brothers before the set off. They tried to get you to come along with them, but they knew you could never leave your mother with Frank.

"Ya shouldn't stay here. A pretty girl like you wouldn't last a day in this neighbourhood without us Dixon brothers watching over ya." Merle stated attempting to sound mean, but you could hear the concern behind his tone and you smiled.

"I ain't the same scared little 12 year old who just moved in next door to you. I can take care of myself now." You responded crossing your arms over your chest as you stared at Merle who grinned, with a nod before climbing into the truck, giving you and Daryl some time to say goodbye.

"I know ya can handle yourself, but just be careful alright?" Daryl suddenly said, taking a few steps closer to you now that Merle wasn't in the way.

"I always am. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. In a few years I'll be able to get my mother and I out of this shithole of a town and away from her shithead of a boyfriend. Then I can join you boys on whatever the hell you guys are planning on doing." You stated motioning towards the truck and Merle's motorcycle sitting in the back of it before you pulled Daryl in for a hug wrapping your arms over his shoulders as he pulled you in tightly, his arms around your waist.

"This ain't goodbye. I promise I will come back." He whispered and you shook your head as you pulled away slightly.

"You are getting out of this crappy life. I don't want to hold you back, you deserve to be happy, Daryl." You said, giving him a gentle kiss on his cheek ignoring how both your cheeks blushed at the contact.

"Y/N! Where the hell are you?!" Frank's voice shouted from inside the house and you looked over your shoulder, to find the lights being turned on through the windows.

"Go. You know what happened last time." You quickly said referring to the time Frank shot at the tyres of his truck last time he saw the two of you together.

"If he hurts ya-" Daryl began to say glancing over your shoulder towards your house before you cut him off.

"You taught me how to defend myself. If he touches me or my mother he knows I'll fight back." You responded, but before Daryl could respond you heard the front door of your house slam open and you knew it was Frank.

"Get the fuck inside, right now!" Frank yelled and you quickly pushed Daryl towards his truck, not knowing if Frank had his gun out or not, but you weren't willing to wait around to find out.

"Daryl you need to go. Just remember I love you." You said with a sad smile and Daryl just stared at you in shock after what you just said. You felt your cheeks blushing slightly as you admitted your feelings. You knew there was something more between you and Daryl, but neither of you wanted to say it, afraid that you might ruin your friendship. But Merle was constantly telling you that Daryl loved you and that you should just grow some balls and ask him out, because he wasn't going to make the first step, but you were always too scared to say it. But right now you knew you had to. If you didn't say it then and never saw him again then you would hate yourself forever.

You could feel tears rising in your eyes as you watched Daryl climb into the truck, but you refused to let them spill. You could hear Frank yelling from behind you, but in that moment all you were focused on was Daryl who was already looking at you with sad eyes as the truck began to drive off. You gave the brothers a gentle wave and Merle honked the horn in response causing you to laugh softly as you watched Daryl's silver truck drive off down the road.

Now...

You walked into the small abandon town cautiously. You had your crossbow held up as you scanned the streets around you, looking for any sign of people dead or alive. It wasn't the walkers you were particularly worried about, you knew how to handle them. It was the living that you were sceptical about, it was amazing what people would do these days for food and supplies. Which was why you tended to stick to the woods, you grew up always exploring and hunting in the woods with Daryl. He was the one who taught you how to track and hunt, even taught you how to shoot his crossbow and once you were old enough and had enough money, you bought yourself one too.

You slowly made your way down the street, going from house to house. Usually you'd stick to the woods, away from any man-made structures knowing they were usually surrounded by walkers, but you were desperate. You were running low on supplies and hunting was slowly getting more difficult as animals were getting harder to come by.

You walked across the road to the next house. It was a large two-story building, the kind of house you'd only see in your dreams. It was massive and none of the windows or doors looked to be broken so you figured it was worth checking out.

You walked up to the front door, hitting the butt of your crossbow against the wooden frame as you waited to see if any walkers were inside, but after a few seconds of silence you deemed the place clear and made your way inside.

It was as if the apocalypse had missed this house because it looked to be in perfect condition, as if the outside world was perfectly normal. Tables, chairs, couches, photo frames, book shelves, you name it and it was all still neatly standing in this house. How has nobody scavenged this house yet?

You slowly wandered through each of the rooms down stairs, before you found the kitchen. You walked around the long breakfast bench as you reached the row of cupboards and opened the first one and your jaw dropped. Canned food. Rows and rows of canned food. Beans, Tuna, spaghetti sauce, peaches, apples, soup, so many different canned foods all in the one cupboard. Jackpot!

"Christmas came early." You mumbled to yourself before you stood up and made your way towards the stairs, knowing you needed to check the rest of the house to make sure it was all clear before you got too excited over the food.

As you reached the top of the stairs you spotted two open doors that lead to a couple of bedrooms and one closed door to your right with a sign hanging from the door knob that said 'Scott's Room. Keep Out.' You smiled at the sign before opening the door and quickly jumped backwards as a walker staggered out the room towards you.

"God damnit, Scott." You muttered bringing your crossbow up and aiming it at the walker's head before you squeezed the trigger as the walker fell to the ground. "Guess even rich people with nice houses couldn't win against the apocalypse." You said to yourself as you retrieved the crossbow bolt from the walker's head before reloading your crossbow as you finished checking the rest of the rooms.

You found a medicine cabinet in one of the bathrooms and began filling your backpack up with ones you thought might come in handy. There were a few bottles of painkillers and antibiotics, a bunch of alcohol wipes and bandages which you knew would probably come in handy at some point.

After you finished raiding the medicine you found a small handheld torch and tucked it into the side pocket of your backpack for easy access before you made your way back to the kitchen. You started filling the rest of your bag full of canned food that hadn't expired yet and few bottles of water you found in another cupboard.

Once you checked every cupboard you walked over to the refrigerator and without thinking you opened it. You thought there might have been something useful in there, but as soon as you opened it, you quickly closed it again and began coughing from the horrendous smell.

"Holy shit." You gasped covering your nose as you mentally cursed yourself for not thinking about all the off food that was in the fridge. That was possibly the dumbest thing you had done in weeks. At least there was nobody around to laugh or judge you.

That night you dragged the cushions from the couches out onto the balcony on the second floor. You laid the cushions on the floor next to the railing before you retrieved a pillow and a blanket from one of the bedrooms before making your way outside onto the balcony as you shut the door behind you. There was just something about being up high that made you feel safe, plus you had the view of the whole street from were you were, so you could keep an eye out for any herds of walkers that may wander through so you could leave before being trapped in the house.

You stood on the balcony looking out along the horizon as the sun began to set while you fiddled with the silver chain bracelet that was around your left wrist. It was the only thing you had to remind you of Daryl these days. He had given it to you as an apology/thank you gift a few days after you had to bail him out after Merle got caught with drugs or something stupid, but Daryl took the blame knowing that if Merle got caught doing something illegal again then he would be sentenced to jail.

"What the fuck were you thinking?!" You shouted, slamming the car door shut as you stared at the police station across the road.

"I was thinkin' I didn't want Merle back in prison!" Daryl snapped from the passenger seat as you pulled the keys out your pocket and started the ignition.

"This is the third time in two months that I've had to bail you out, Daryl." You stated sternly. You were sick of Daryl having to pay the price for Merle's actions, he didn't deserve this.

"I know, I'm sorry." Daryl suddenly said, his tone turning from angry to gentle in a split second and you could feel him watching you as you turned to meet his gaze.

"Just don't let it happen again." You sighed before you put Daryl's truck into reverse as you pulled out of the car park.

A few days later you were out the front of your house, going off at Frank for giving your mother a black eye.

"Don't you touch her again!" You shouted pushing Frank backwards as he took a step towards you. You had never fought back against him before, but right now you were furious. You didn't care if he hurt you, but hurting your mother was a big no no.

You glared at Frank as you spotted Daryl and Merle out the corner of your eye, walking out from their garage after hearing all the commotion.

"What are you gonna do about it you little bitch?" Frank shouted taking a step closer to you, but before you could respond his fist suddenly collided with your cheek bone. The force of the hit nearly sent you on your ass, but you managed to keep your feet.

"Stop. Please stop." Your mother begged from the house, but you didn't listen as you kicked Frank in the balls, using his moment of surprise to your advantage as you swung your fist, punching him in the jaw.

You could see the shock and anger in his eyes, but before he could retaliate Daryl and Merle were standing by your side glaring at Frank.

"This doesn't concern you boys!" Frank shouted staring at the two next to you but they shook their heads. "I'll tell your father-" Frank began to threaten before Daryl cut him off.

"He doesn't give a shit what we do. He would be more pissed at ya for disturbing him, if ya go talk to him!" Daryl stated crossing his arms over his chest and Merle did the same. You had to stop yourself from smiling at the sight of the Dixon brothers beside you, they always had your back.

"I'm getting my gun!" Frank shouted before he stormed off heading towards the house and you knew he was going to grab his shotgun.

"Yeah, you better run!" Merle yelled over his shoulder as you all watched Frank slam the front door shut behind him.

"You okay?" Daryl asked lifting your chin up towards him so he could take in the bruise that was already forming over your left cheek.

"I'm fine. You guys should probably go before he comes back." You replied motioning over your shoulder towards the house as you looked between the two brothers.

"That's probably a good idea. See ya around Y/N." Merle replied with a wave before he walked off back to his house leaving you and Daryl standing by yourselves.

"I got ya somethin' to say sorry and to thank ya for bailing me out the other day." Daryl suddenly said once Merle was out of earshot and you watched him curiously as he pulled out a silver bracelet from his pocket. "It's not much, but-"

"It's beautiful!" You quickly responded as you clipped it around your wrist taking in the chained bracket and you smiled noticing a small arrow charm dangling from it. It was perfect.

You glanced up at Daryl who was smiling at your sudden happiness before you looked back down at the bracelet on your wrist.

"Thank you, Daryl. But I'm still angry about you needing bail though." You stated with a slight grin and Daryl rolled his eyes, but nodded.

You smiled at the old memory as you placed your backpack on the floor of the balcony next to the cushions, along with your crossbow but you kept your hunting knife in its holder through your belt and your Glock 19 handgun that was in your gun holster that was strapped to your thigh. That way if someone or something happened to sneak up on you during the night, you wouldn't be defenceless.

You woke up to the sound of voices shouting and it took you a few seconds to actually process the fact that you shouldn't be able to hear people shouting in the world you lived in. You quickly sat up in your makeshift bed, grabbing your crossbow from besides you as you glanced through the railing of the balcony trying to pinpoint the source of noise.

The sun was beginning to rise along the horizon causing you to squint as you scanned the street in front of you until your eyes landed on a group of people. Maybe nine or ten people trying to fight off nearly 20 walkers which wasn't including the other dozen or so that were making their way towards them from further up the street.

You sat there watching them fight off the walkers for a few seconds as you contemplated whether you should go help them or not. But once your eyes landed on the old man and a woman who was clearly heavily pregnant, you knew you couldn't just turn a blind eye to them. They were going to get themselves killed, you thought to yourself before the sound of guns firing filled the air and you realised they were starting to shoot the walkers. Yep, they were definitely gonna get themselves killed if they keep shooting those loud guns.

You quickly slipped your backpack on over your shoulders and slung your crossbow over your shoulder as well before you carefully but quickly climbed over the railing of the balcony and cautiously made your way down to the ground.

Once your feet hit the hard ground you took off running towards the group of people as they struggled against the walkers. You spotted a man, who seemed to be the leader of the group as he was the only one shouting instructions to the others. Suddenly a walker jumped at him causing him to drop his gun as he held the walker by the shoulders to stop it from biting his face.

You could tell he was struggling and without hesitation you quickly aimed your crossbow at the back of the walkers head and squeezed the trigger. You saw the man jump in surprise as he watched the walker drop to the ground dead before his eyes landed on you and you gave him a nod. You didn't know what else to do to try show that you weren't a threat to him and you sighed with relief when he nodded back before he continued taking out the walkers around him. Good, this group didn't seem like they were bad, you thought to yourself before you slung your crossbow over your shoulder as you pulled your knife out and began taking out the nearest walkers.

You noticed a young boy wearing a Sheriffs hat to your right and you gave him a small smile before turning away and taking down the walker that tried sneaking up to you on your left. You zoned out the group of people as you zeroed in on the walkers around you, slamming your knife into their skulls when you spotted a woman about your age and an Asian man struggling with five walkers that trapped them away from the rest of the group.

You quickly made your way towards them, stabbing a few stray walkers in your path before you put your knife away and pulled your crossbow out taking down the walker about to bite the woman before slamming the end of your crossbow into the heads of the other walkers. The two of them froze for a split second when they spotted you, but they quickly snapped out of it and began helping you take down the rest of the walkers until there were no more left.

"Thank you." The woman suddenly said between breaths and you nodded wiping the sweat off your forehead before you reached down, taking your bolt out of the walker's head.

You began reloading your crossbow as you heard footsteps come up behind you, but you didn't bother turning around knowing it was the rest of the group as you continued reloading the crossbow.

"Who are you and why did you help us?" A male voice questioned as you slung your crossbow over your shoulder before turning around to find the same guy standing behind you.

"What the hell were you thinking? Do you know how loud that damn revolver is? You would have attracted every walker within a five mile radius to this place." You suddenly shouted pointing to the gun in the mans hand as he stared at you with uncertainty. You glanced at the rest of his people as they began walking over to you. You spotted the pregnant woman and old man, as well as the boy with the Sheriff's hat and a few other new faces you didn't notice earlier. Suddenly you froze as you spotted a familiar leather vest with angle wings on the back of a man who was reloading his own crossbow and you instantly knew it was him. You could spot that vest and that bow from anywhere. It was Daryl.

@codes i think i may have put this on my artblog but... Here

i guess ill start w ichi bc i always forget about him somehow like i always come up short when im making lists and im like 'oh wait shit yeah that guy’ bc im stupid n i only think of fishing trio + choro. I’m an Idiot. idk i never thought too hard on ichi bc i so rarely think about him but he looks so high its really funny i said this on main but he looks like my friend when he decided to try a weed gummy bear then started babbling about hentai then watched to watch porn with me but got mad all the intro scenes are a billion years long and started ranting about the industry but now that i think about it he looks like someone who used to send me weird shit when he was high like bad pick up lines about body parts i wish i didnt have

and thats so funny that its Ichimatsu who looks like that but also proof that hes high. but anyway!! hes really cute and im mad hes boutta ruin my reputation for my complete and utter lack of care and interest in him no matter what im mad. my friend gwyn said 'Sp lubing us up for the fuckening that is the reason why Ichi is sad in present day’ im really curious at the change like if hes trying a fake it till you make it type thing bc really emotionally exhausted or if hes just genuinely having a good time or hes puttin on a front since like. nails who stand get hammered down right??? just gotta do your best n Never Relax n i can relate to all that. but uhhh old hcs i guess

in kun ichi was the most serious! really smart but just as bad w school as the rest of them apparently but!! yeah so id think that!! ichis that guy who participates in class discussion constantly and is always willing to debate the readings, but turns in sloppy papers with typos and no a coherency or stucture or anything. he’s A+ in participation but has an average of 60% on most of the written assignments with points knocked bc of lateness then more bc its A Mess. you could ask about the prompts for one of his papers, he could babble about his position on it complete with paragraphs and footnotes but like the day before its due hes playing rpgs and watching horror movies.

his classmates think hes so smart n so intimidating. the family knows hes a hot mess. the teachers tell him he has a lot of potential but they don’t think hes applying himself. all are right. also he doesnt cheat or let people cheat off of him since hes always been about rules and boundaries and Rightness n he n jyushi were the only ones who Minded Themselves in kun

uhh jyushi!! let me talk about schoolwork again bc yeah i love jyushi so so so so much and thinking of him in a school environment is so weird i thought about it a lot n i thought about it him in kun n san and Woah!! i really really love delinquent jyushi, bc when i saw that i was like 'huh! that fits actually!!’ i love that like him and choro flip flopped completely from what i thought. his school must be so cold theyre too cheap to afford heating in the winter and in summer the acs Blast. he was so Shy and quiet and he cried and he liked to sing so i always thought that when he participated in chorus festivals hes always like right in front!! he hums a lot in class and also moves around alot bc he actually like school and people like primary trio are the types that make friends often. i wasnt supposed to talk about this yet whoops.

unlike ichi who relatively neat despite everything but has shit notes, jyushis notes are amazing and understandable and utterly illegible.

theyre covered in doodles, arrows and lines leading every which way, different colors but not like color coded n theyre not in order by date, but he opens to a random page every time yet somehow always seems to know where to find each lesson. he writes footnotes and caveats and corrections and criticisms of the teachers and random thoughts and just smears ink everywhere. sometimes his notes are on a completely different subject. the notebook itself is a horrifying mess, the front and back covers both covered in drawings and designs and falling apart, random papers shoved between the pages, coming apart at the seams, covered in stains of unknown origin. assignments are full of emoticons and informal language, and they always manage to make his teachers feel like hes smarter than they are (most likely). he does his projects the minute theyre assigned, and is finished a minute later so can talk to his friends. he loved school.

sophie told me once about how she thought was Like That was bc one of his main concerns is that he thought he had nothing that made him Jyushi n in kun she said he might have been the one who was the most concerned about having a distinctive personality and i talked about how that sorta carried over san and how he always blended in bc of how gentle and soft and push-overy he was. he was actually the and most gullible and weakest in kun so i was like :0 when i saw that and intentionally did stuff like only carry 14 yen in his pockets to be quirky but it always sorta fell flat and he was still invisible so i was like hmmmmm. and i can see how he couldve toughened up and thinking of this now!! i love that. oh im so happy. this is so much better than i ever couldve imagined ever.

totty…. i do not think he was very popular or good at school. i think he’s very decent at schoolwork but he never put much effort into it. just copies whats on the board but if the class runs out of allotted lesson time n he couldnt finish his work he just didnt do it like cram schools a pain in the ass. if he put effort hed be a star student but he just craps out whatever since hes was the laziest!! oh but something i noticed was that him and jyushi would play together often since sometime he felt overwhelmed by karamatsu a lot. also hes the money thief and scammer its great kun todo is so good. he gets shy and flustered easy too!!

but uhh yeah!! depending on the day im always like 'zaimoku love each other so much they are best friends and the perfect other halves!!’ then im like 'these mofos hate each other what the fuck is this trainwreck’ did you see their shitty small talk in the horse episode. what was that. like they are genuinely trying to communicate and are pretty easy with each other but they have nothing to say. its like when youre having a boring day at school and theres nothing to talk about with an acquaintance so you just look at the walls and go 'have you ever noticed how stupid these posters are’ then you both start reading posters aloud but you both know its not that funny and youre just doing it to waste time but you still enjoy their company you just dont want silence. thats their relationship. and i think they are just very similar in very different ways and like. the key things that make them both similar and different and the same fuck them up (like suiriku!! theyre both really similar even if it doesn’t seem like it at first which is why their compatibility in the relationship chart was so low in s1, but i saw a lot of improvement in both of their behaviours and their communication and honestly. s2 was worth it for that sophie was so happy to see her faves get along) like sometimes when you look in the mirror all the things you see are the things you dont like about yourself instead of what makes you wonderful and unique. also i didnt mean to talk about this but i guess i am.

but yeah. totty is bitter n resentful at kara during hs n karas more confused and upset at tottys behaviour in their twenties n thats bc like i said. theyre dumb. karamatsu!! i think was actually pretty popular in highschool n had a good amount of friends - i genuinely think theatre kids are well liked bc i literally know everyone in my department and im friends w a good amount of people and im not even That extroverted. my actual extrovert friends know everyone in the school by name and everyone in my department is so nice even though theres a lot of bitchiness and drama its not as bad as w other humanities studies (jesus christ humanity students outside of theatre are a hot mess.)

uh yeah n that ultimately makes totty feel a bit… betrayed? karamatsu is his partner! theyre supposed to be there for eachother! kara’s the first one to branch out, get friends etc etc and todomatsus left behind bc hes always the one playimg follow the leader and he breaks out of that once they graduate - he grows up resenting karamatsu slightly though he still cares. but this time Hes the one cancelling plans to hang out with friends instead. my friend katie put it best when, in response to me telling them this, they sent me:

'kara: totty you have so many friends now. We barely see you anymore.

totty, applying chapstick: well, I learned it from the best.’

when i told them about it. but at the time gwyn and i were babbling about possibilities and different storylines and how theres a possiblity the movie might break down into three manageable plotlines n she gave zaimoku 'popularity’ and this was me throwing out ideas but honestly. Good. (aha, the end of this scenario ended up with todo throwing hands and shoulder checking someone outside a window and then getting removed from the premise n hanging with atsushi all night after) why am i on this. shit what happened here.

uhh but yeah totty is Def someone with learned behaviours rather than being a natural extrovert honestly just look at him hes an introverted mess masquerading as a decent human being and i know full well how people like that are bc some of them have been my best friends for years n seein the new hs promos solidifies that fact bc look at him. Crybaby. He is Miniscule. A Child.

then its 'delinquent who looks like an honour student’ choro. i never studied him until sophie started liking choro n since i love sophie i wanted to take an interest in him too. n i started to think very hard about him! then gwyn planted this in me n its taken root and im just never not gonna think its great. yall see his shitty gokudo impression what a bossy lil shit. he pulled a whip on kara once and it was mad funny but also Gwyns Big Evidence for him just being the absolute worst not like a casually skips class type but a Choro was a legit a bully and really mean n sabatoged other classmates to make him look like he was 100% That Bitch. maybe not him being Mean and cruel but just an asshole who bums around, is something i really like that one a lot its been one of my faves since gwyn n i started talking about it but i just!! have a ton of other things too!!

hes a lot like karamatsu in that theyre both stupid and weird and embarrassing and they put on airs but they also!! dont try!! they talk so big and such high goals n expectations and they dont do shit bc they have so much hubris but i always talk about them bc suiriku is sophies Beloved so ill like. Not. but he acts like he’s better than all of them n forces the role of the straight man on himself because he wants to be seen as the responible, level headed one even if hes just. So Much.

i think the movies calling back to how touchy feely and clingy he was in kun and adding on to how jyushis a delinquent and kara… Is Like That he’ll be around them the most bc jyushi might either be really protective or push him away and then they do something to mend their relationship later on or hell cling to kara and they just. grow apart. sticking to my hc until the end bitches. oh.

for choro… personally!! i thought hed be a slacker instead of a delinquent but not in the way totty slacked - totty was lazy n knew the work but didnt want to put in effort but choro just. he doesnt like quiet classrooms!! he cant study like that and hell get distracted. he cant sit still n thats why totoko broke up w him in the beer ad and why hes just Everywhere in kun!! hes understimulated and its just Ugh! you know??? he’ll fidget w his pens until he breaks them or hum or tap his foot and annoy everyone or leave for the bathroom at least three times a class just to get up and move.

eventually he just. gives up even though hes super smart he like, stops caring bc if you dont care to understand material then you wont have to read and read and reread and rereread something to get it! classes just make everything uncomphrehensible and makes any idea he may have sublimate into nothing. but he can work on the trains and the buses! he needs something kenetic to get him moving and trains n shit always have enough going on to work with, just like with home!! chorochoro motherfuckers. he works much better moving forward, ironic as that is. he feels sorta set apart from every thing like hes behind some big plane of glass doing everything wrong and being all set apart from everything. eventually he takes to acting like a real fussy mom to avoid his own problems and help everyone else out even though hes annoying and even when he graduates but it gets Worse bc then figures out how much!!! he fucked up!! then he kicks himself into high gear n still cant do shit. ahh.

its illegal for me to talk about choukei bc i talk about them so much and im always being annoying n typing stupid essays about them bc theyre… my faves.. But this is so long…

it actually makes me super happy that he kara acne he still can be really fighty and he cries and he still does stupid impulsive shit for others and even though hes really sweet and caring is still an utter monster and fucking mess of a person. love him. i always like to think his shittymatsu nickname came from iyami n it just morphed from there bc in 66 you can hear iyami calling him specifically garbage. ive always been glad they kept his sewing hobby too. ahh, actually from what i see hes pretty similarities to kun so i wonder when he decided to air out that teremity. idk what to say about him that i havent in tottys section. he just Feels like someone who had a good support group and nice friends bc of how hes able to move in the world. kara feels like some whos doing their growing up in their twenties bc highschool came easy to them and now theyre just really struggling with the real world. like i shouldve expected softboy hs kara and i appreciate him very much!! i talk about choukei a lot bc they were the first characters that spoke so i immediately attached myself to them n i talk about karamatsu Specifically but im not sure i ever mentioned how much i appreciated how smart and cautious hes proved himself to be time and time again, like how hes the only one to point out totokos fish shtick aint doing her favours or how he was the first one to notice osos irritation n how you can pick out his voice warning jyushi to calm down in the bg of 24 or how in the comedian episode he was ready to take Notes from iyami and a lot of other small things!!

i would think hes actually a bit more serious n calm in hs and san is him amping up traits that drew people to him in hs and it backfiring on kara spectacularly - kara is always gauging people and their reactions and acting in a way he believes will get something positive, but at the same time is utterly oblivious when it comes to actually Getting them n i talked about the girls on the bridge but this is also prevalent with ichi who kara just. Doesnt Get and can not figure out how to maneuver their relationship. like oso, kara is and elder brother!! and elder brothers have an image theyre supposed to uphold, but while kara acts the part he doesnt do the shit a big brother does and shrugs that responsibility off on oso until oso fucks up until s2, where they share the role more evenly and his relationship with ichi improves but this is another essay entirely. what im trying to get with that is that hyperfocus on what other people think of him, but his complete disregard when it comes to their actual reaction and instead what he wants their reactions to be would also greatly impact him transtioning from a teen to an adult im sorry im getting sloppy now

osomatsu… i really adore him too much and i understand how totty felt in their episode bc i also lent my phone to a friend who needed to desperately jack it before meeting new people n i talk about him a whole lot too. hes mean and an asshole and garbage n i know a lot of people find him plain n boring but idk. i dont think thats the case hes a really complexed n nuanced character n hes literally has always been way back from kun n thats expected from a main character but… hes always been mean n dumb n sly and he can get so pathetically vunerable and thats literally!! him. hes a normal dude nothing wrong with that n it can be real refreshing. n i suppose im so fond of fishing trio+choro bc they remind me of my friends. but yeah even if hes 'plain’ i dont see why thats a bad thing. n this they always have the most interesting body language like despite kara being So Much his body language was always closed off n singled him out as everything But exuberant and bright, and osos quirks like how he stands on his toes a lot had always been so cute… its relaxed and open n screams Talk To Me!!!!

ahh but i always end up thinking oso was. oso??? theres not much to say that i havent before but i do think that he was a lot more like he was in episode 2 when ranting to chibita about having shitty brothers and then actively Chose to be a good brother even if he wasnt a good person and be a stable rock and be someone they could all come back to at the end of the day. and hes good at math im never letting this die.

Quick Thoughts on TRR Book 2 Chapter 16

• IT’S HAPPENING FAM!

• Since there’s a chance that Homecoming Ball is going to be an absolute disaster, might as well put my crown on now

WHAT URGENT MATTER WHICH URGENT MATTER. LIAM YOU SHOULD TELL ME THESE THINGS.

• Maxwell since when was Bertrand a ‘calm presence’ 😂

• “No plots, schemes or blonde-haired barriers in the way!” Bertrand tells me. You sure about that boi? Coz everytime someone says something won’t happen in this book, it fucking happens 😑

• MAXWELL SINCE WHEN WAS ME ACCEPTING A PROPOSAL IN MY WAITRESS UNIFORM A GOOD IDEA

• When in doubt (and in NY getting engaged) dress like a New York skyscraper

• I had thought the Bertrand Savannah story would be over by now, but it isn’t. Far from it. But from what I gather - he seems to a. think that restoring Beaumont House’s glory comes first, b. feel that his love for Savannah (he does mention that he “treasures” her messages) is a distraction, c. deems himself a failure. There are some pieces to this puzzle missing and methinks we’ll find them all only in Book 3.

Legit. This right here is how my MC ended up head over heels for him.

• Liam: You radiated…possibility.

I believe at some point in the chapter, Liam highlights this as true not only in his own case, but applies it to how she changed Drake’s, Hana’s and Maxwell’s lives as well. I love that even in this, he doesn’t want to think only of himself. He sees how the MC has influenced his friends as well.

• I love how all our choices in Book 1 have been incorporated in this chapter.

• My favourite sequence in the chapter thus far is when Liam tells us about how he met the rest of the gang. It really does give us an idea of their background and history, and why they all really worked as a team, a unit, a group.

•

The first thing that came to my mind was how Maxwell was the first person to recognize the effect the MC had on Liam, way before even Drake did. He was the first to realise that Liam had found in the MC something he’d never had before, and thought to himself “I don’t want Liam to lose that”. It makes his first invitation to Cordonia that much more poignant, IMO.

• Lol I love how both Liam and Drake’s friendship is comprised entirely of them repeatedly rescuing each other 😂 They’re each other’s Knights in Shining Armour lol.

• OMG I FEEL SO VALIDATED BY WHAT LIAM SAID ABT HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH HANA?? I’D BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE BEFORE BOOK 2 CAME OUT OMG THANK YOU FOR CONFIRMING LIAM xD

• “Even back then…I knew [Hana and I] would be kindred spirits” - PREACH BRUH THATS WHAT I SAID

• Back when I played the chapter I assumed the megapoint meant this LI would be exclusive for you from that point on…but alas. Looks like that isn’t the case. I do think we’ll see this megapoint next chapter with the others too. Maybe.

What he means is “sorry, Joy, I don’t think your little eyes can handle the smut”.

• Soooo this time’s diamond option is purely sexytimes, with a side order of Lady Liberty trivia. (the lightning one sounds ominous and symbolic of Liam in some ways). I’m okay with that because I really liked the non-diamond journey that preceded it, I thought that was a beautiful way to retrace their steps to the very beginning of their journey together.

• Also. As I have said before. Cordonian men have a thing for pinning their women to walls 😂

• This comes up if the MC speaks about Lady Liberty being struck by lightning 600 times.

Liam says the MC represents possibility. The MC says this. The Bad is gonna happen fam. In the Finale 😭😭😭

• Yknow there are several ways this could go down:

1. An assassination

2. A coup

3. Possible leaking of Constantine’s involvement in the conspiracy, leading to people losing their faith completely in Liam. It would take a great amount of effort for Liam to win his people’s trust, all through no fault of his own 😭

I hate option 1 but at least I hate it the least 😭😭😭 I’d much rather Liam get heroically injured than emotionally and publically torn apart like that 😭😭😭😭

• MADELEINE KNOWS SOMETHING.

• MAYBE REGINA KNOWS SOMETHING TOO IDK. MAYBE EVEN ADELEIDE KNOW SOMETHING. OR NOT. IM SO CONFUSED.

• If you reject Liam’s proposal, the resulting behaviours from the MC’s side are highly problematic:

1. She does it NOW when this man is on his one knee with a ring. Imagine how much more poignant and beautiful this admission would have been if they let you say it way back at the balcony. Imagine having the opportunity to tell Liam you love someone else at that point, seeing him conflicted, sad, confused - BUT AT LEAST he knows the stakes and knows it involves you finally going to the love interest of your choice in the end. Imagine him saying “I’m hurt, and sad, but that’s not what matters. What matters is that we clear your name.” How much more poignant that scene would have been. How much richer would it have made Liam’s story with you even if you weren’t pursuing him. It would allow him to maybe explore other options with other people. And it would be completely in character for him to let go that way. The MC, Liam and all the LIs would have wound up all looking good. Having it stretch out this far and crushing him like this is great drama but it makes the MC look like a complete tool. ESP when Liam offers her a duchy and her response is to be happy. HAPPY. “Sure I trampled your heart on my high heels but LAND. TITLES. MY OWN COAT OF ARMS. YAY. Who cares about you boo?”

2. Having the option of kissing him, and having sex with him, even though you have rejected him. Sure, Liam tries to make us feel better about initiating by bringing up the way Cordonia secretly does relationships, but in this case they don’t have consent from the LIs. She’s telling him she wants to have sex with him, at a time when he is vulnerable, desperately in love, still not over her, shocked and confused. That’s manipulative on levels I can’t even begin to describe. There should have allowed Liam to pull a Zig here, not continue placing her on a pedestal. Zig wants the TF MC, and he makes his feelings very clear to her while playing pool, but if she chooses to cheat on her LI with him he makes it very clear how absolutely callous that is on both him and the other LI. It makes it clear that this choice - taken with no one’s consent, and obviously focussed just on her own needs without caring whether other people will get hurt in the process - is wrong. He lets her know her behavior was terrible. Liam would have been well within his rights to tell the MC that too.

At the very least they could have had Liam bring the polyamorous option up and THEN state “but hey, you shitty person, we don’t have Drake/Hana/Maxwell’s say on this yet”.

This isn’t in any way comparable to the Liam/Madeleine/MC situation. Liam was in a forced arrangement, one that he had been clearly manipulated into. Liam had Madeleine’s explicit consent, and got the MC’s as well, before moving forward. Plus he never intended to keep the arrangement with Madeleine, hoping to break it when the MC’s name was cleared (a promise he acted upon and fulfilled immediately, might I add). Here, the MC and Liam are free, as are the other LIs, and they have nothing holding them back. And as I mentioned earlier there is no explicit consent from the LIs, the way there was with Madeleine. Liam is a guy who stayed ridiculously faithful to the MC from the moment she entered the competition, didn’t even look in the direction of the rest of the competition when he was well within his rights to. Ignored Madeleine to a large extent the whole duration of their engagement. Basically ONLY lavished attention, love and devotion to the MC. What about this guy screams “yeah let’s bang without consent from the ppl you’re actually in love with” to you?

• Liam is not the one with the problem here. Nor is the player. The problem is the writing and the game.

• This is an obvious attempt at cashgrab. Now that we will begin to go official with our LIs, how are we going to buy ALL the exclusive LI scenes the way we’ve been doing so far? They can’t completely diverge the stories the way they did with RoE (RoE could afford to do this because there were other characters and storylines we could find ourselves invested in, so restricting it to just one LI in Book 3 was okay), nor can they do what they’re currently doing in TS or ES or LH because the relationship dynamics in this book are vastly different. So they bring up this piss poor excuse so that they can still manage to make sex scenes with the LIs possible even if you’re supposed to be going official with them by the end of the book. Ick. All it does is leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Some folks still need to learn how to constructively comment

Wish I could say that I’ve been writing Chapter... 12(? Legit, I don’t often remember the chapter numbers outside of the Google doc) since posting Chapter 11 (we’re just gonna assume I know where the fuck I’m at in my own story, okay? Give me this).

But that would be a bald faced lie.

(Mostly because of my sister’s graduation and all the family visiting and the concurrent back injury I was suffering. Really kills the writing mood when you can’t sit up properly to type.)

This is going under a read more, because this incident Vexed Me To The Max(TM) and triggered a Rant of Epic Proportions(TM).

But graduation has been over, and my back has been feeling great. What really kept me a bit down since all that was over and done with is that very morning I’m feeling better, I see that I have two comments on the 100 fic I’ve put on indefinite hiatus. Yeah, it’s not an active story, but I still care about it, and I’ve been thinking about it recently. So, in short. I still care about it a hell of a lot. Hell, I care about everything that I write. I’ve written fanfiction at what’s nearing 10 years now, but nothing has erased the fact that putting yourself out there in the public eye takes a hell of a lot of effort and, sure, a smidgen of courage and confidence.

Well, this lovely commenter told me that my word count was way too high, that I was slowing my story down, and that they skipped to the last chapter (from Chapter 2, they skipped 6 chapters of ongoing character development, an ensemble cast, Ark politics, and canon fix-its) “40k words and [Clarke’s] still not on the ground yet??”

This is me paraphrasing both comments. I deleted them with extreme prejudice from the fic because I wasn’t leaving that kind of useless bullshit on my work after it effectively ruined my mood for, like, four days.

Why was it bullshit? Well, for one thing taking the average word count per chapter, it’s only a little over 5k words per chapter. Look. I balance out my word counts very carefully for each story that I write. This fic has a longer than average word count compared to my more recent stuff (which is around 4k per chapter) because of all the fuckin shit I was pulling off in this particular fic. Reworking canon to better explain why the Arkers were resistent to the radiation on the ground while having the superior blood that the Mountain Men wanted without putting them up in their shitty space station for thousand of years that evolution would have actually required them to have gone through to be remotely realistic.

Jake’s alive in this fic because I don’t like dead characters shaping character development on a pre-canon basis. Personally, I dislike orphan/parental loss storylines before the specific original work has even started. I get that orphans exist in real life. But YA media has a disproportionate amount of dead parents. Eh. I wanted to do something different. So, this means there’s an entire extra character in the story that I have to write and develop.

Diana Allers actually matters in day to day Ark life instead of just showing up and nearly murdering everyone because she’s a selfish bitch for little to no reason other than to make Abby’s already pretty damn full storyline even more packed than it already was. (Seriously, why didn’t they develop Allers more? She’s lazily implemented in canon, and I hate it. Lord only knows I enjoyed Abby and Raven’s plotlines far more in several places of Season 1 rather than Bellamy’s Manpain Adventures Lite Before He Turns Into A Complete And Utter Psychopath Later On In The Series).

Jaha is far more competent and slimey than he is in the show, rather than being a foolish man who is barely toddering along in the plot towards something useful.

Abby and Jake are at odds because Jake technically betrays Clarke and allows her to get arrested in the beginning of the story. They adopt Raven in the interim and they’re all awkwardly trying to free Clarke while pretending that Jake and Abby aren’t having marital problems. Well, Jake and Abby are pretending, Raven is as blunt as she usually is and just calls shit like she sees it.

Ensemble cast. There’s literally a tag on this story that tells you all that “This Story Is Literally About Everyone.”

So.

Yeah.

Clarke’s not on the fucking ground yet. But you wouldn’t know that, would you? Having skipped past 6 chapters.

Is 5k really that long? I wouldn’t know, personally when I read a longfic, I go into it knowing that the chapters might be long as fuck because I know that I’m reading a fic that could literally take me through several days and I read pretty damn fast. Not that 40k words is really all that much when you’re rewriting a TV show using all the characters who already exist in canon and then getting into their thoughts and motivations because that is literally what books do, this isn’t a screenplay, I wouldn’t be caught dead writing one because I despise them. Sorry, but you’re getting the full range of thoughts and emotions of everyone involved. I know, that’s just awful, getting hours and hours of content for free, but god forbid the plot doesn’t run on your timetable.

But that’s really the crux of this rant, isn’t it? NEVER complain about word counts, people. Too short? Who the fuck cares? The author could be just beginning their writing careers, so to speak. Word counts of any significance takes practice, first of all. So, not only could they might or might not have the required experience to write longer chapters, they may not even want to. And that’s fine. Because they do this FOR FREE.

Same thing with longer chapters. Are you really going to come at me, nearly a year after I’ve written and posted this work, complaining about word count, as though there’s even a remote chance that I’m going to go back and edit down all of that time and effort I put into that work to satisfy your fragile reading stamina?

Pfffffffffft.

I mean, this is funny to me in some regard because I’m over here wondering just what would be a good length for this person. Part of the reason my chapters tend to be at least 4k words long is because that’s generally where I can get a comfortable amount of character interaction, introspective thought, and plot moving forward. All three of those things matter to me when writing chapters. I hate reading too short works (and no, I don’t tell these authors this. I read what they give me and just deal with it because they’re entertaining me for free) and it’s little more than characters just trading dialogue with each other. I want to know what they are thinking about as well. I want a bit of narration. I’m reading something from a specific character’s point of view, and I want that chapter to ooze the personality of that character.

These are all the things I keep in mind when I write to my word count goals, personally. Doing it in less than 3k words might be possible, but it would sure as hell be annoying.

But most of all, it just irritated the fuck out of me. Like I’ve said multiple times in this rant. I do this for free. I don’t expect you guys to know this, but in order to get these substantial updates when I can manage to actually feel well enough to write and get them published, it takes me EIGHT TO TWELVE HOURS of sitting in front of a computer screen to have a chapter finished. On a good day. Yes. Most of the chapters I put out are done in one day, in one block, and I’m often up until 5 AM finishing something up. I have severe ADHD. Sometimes it is a chore to get shit put on a page because I can’t sit down and focus my thoughts enough to sound even coherent. Sometimes I have issues keeping up with what the beginning of a long sentence was about and I have to constantly keep up with what the fuck I’m even talking about in any given thought.

So, you have an author with a severe executive function disorder attempting to concentrate hard enough to get her own thoughts in character for each and every character that is featured in any given story while attempting to resist even the most mundane distractions while desperately hoping she’s going to hit a period of hyperfocus long enough to get substantial work down, but if that happens she’ll probably forget to eat because she’s on a writing binge that goes on with actual significant work for a period of several hours.

I love writing, despite the challenges I have to deal with in order just to get it done. I love most of the comments that I receive. I’m coming off a period of extreme depression from some family issues I was dealing with. My skin is rather thin at the moment and that irritated the fuck out of me, but those two comments knocked more wind out of my sails that I really wanted them to, and that bugs me even more.

But I am more experienced in fic writing than probably your average person. This commenter pissed me the fuck off, but I’ve moved past this, it’s hardly shattered my motivation to write forever.

But a careless commenter could easily do that to someone just getting into fanfiction. And it makes me wonder just how often this happens everyday, every hour, when entitled, spoiled people who think their needs are more important than the author doing this FOR FREE decide to voice their terrible opinions on their works. I love my readers, I don’t hold myself beholden to them, but they are extraordinarily important to me. Plot, pacing, and character development are all my own when I write because first and foremost, I write for myself. It’s a hobby that I clearly have to work very hard at to even be remotely successful at, and taking anyone else’s standards into account is never going to happen when I have to live up to my own already very high expectations. But I do keep y’all in mind when I’m devoting my time, energy, and effort in. The chapter lengths I have partly exist to make up for the wait times I inevitably have between each release. I very much know that I am sporadic and inconsistent when updating. So, when I do, I want to have something that isn’t just a whisper in the wind when it finally cycles to the top of the AO3 listing.

I know there are inevitably readers who didn’t like my content, or do think my stuff is too long. That’s fine. But don’t come into my space and give me two comments that were effectively “TL;DR” and expect that not to be a slap in the face. Because it is. I have wonder if the fandom kids today even know the kind of slap backs this sort of thing would have gotten in LiveJournal.

But, never mind that. I’m a big girl, I took some petty revenge in deleting that bullshit from my boards and then setting the fic to moderated mode, but what I would like anyone who decides to read through what is actually a long winded post (all my rants are, admittedly) to learn is that you are not reading professional work. You are not reading work that has been paid for. You are not reading work that has been professionally edited. I’m not saying that you can’t have standards for fic, lord knows I have many, but I don’t go into an author’s work and leave shitty comments. Never. Constructive criticism on fanfiction keeps the author’s time in mind, their skill level over what they’re actually capable of, and whether or not they’re even open to criticism. Some authors don’t even want your advice. They just want to know that you liked it. And if you don’t, just don’t say anything. I’m not quite that fragile personally, when someone is giving me useful criticism that can be used to actually improve my quality of writing, but I will freely admit that clearly I have a sore spot about comments addressing word counts.

Get out of here with that shit.

In short. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

okay, so i just finished jessica jones, and, uh, i have some kind of longish thoughts.

man, that was a brutal season of television, and idk, i’m very conflicted and need a hell of a lot more time to process. like, i’m pretty sure i actually loved a lot of it. the story and character arcs were mostly very well written and complex (with some exceptions. i thought the entire blood family vs. found family aspect of the jessica’s mother storyline to be incredibly sloppy and poorly executed but eh, can’t win ‘em all), and of course, jessica jones remains one of the best shows in terms of showing the effects of abuse, trauma, and addiction in all it’s various forms.

but jesus, it was just...bleak. which, okay, no shit considering the subject matter, but this season was even bleaker than season 1. at least with last season, you had the jess/trish relationship as a bright spot that anchored the season and as they healed and came back together, we as viewers could kind of find some relief from the dark aspects of the show. but this season, there was none of that relief as that anchor is just deteriorating and slowly imploding and its suffocating. this whole season was just suffocating to the bitter end. All the relationships are left in shambles. There are no personal triumphs, emotional victories, or any really satisfying resolutions like kilgrave’s death. just a lot of pain and destruction that i’m not sure they can come back from, especially in the case of trish.

(who i could easily write an entire 20 page essay about this season, but for now i’ll just say people are being very harsh on her, and for good reason! but without any kind of nuance or understanding. she’s an addict who was spiraling and relapsed. This is what addiction looks like. it’s awful and painful and brings out and amplifies your worst qualities. she did and said some terrible things and it was so, so hard to watch, but i don’t know how you don’t feel some empathy for her. this quest for power is all about the past physical and sexual abuse (and god knows what else really) she experienced. like, it’s no coincidence that she starts spiraling around the time her mother is squirming her way back into her life and then actually relapses after she confronts the director that sexually assaulted her. she is so desperately and tragically trying to gain the control on her life she never had growing up, and she sees powers as a solution so that she will never have to be that helpless again. it makes her character flaws presented in season 1 all the more messy and real and tragic. man, i love trish walker almost as much as jessica, and this season was incredibly hard to watch as a fan of her character, and i know a lot of her fans are extremely pissed about season 2, but man, this was such complex, layered, and fascinating character development that could set up an amazing and healing redemption arc that could be very rewarding. okay, okay, sorry this was more than i was going to say but i did warn you, 20 page essay easily.)

anyways, i don’t know, man. a lot of these narrative choices weren’t necessarily bad ideas and pulling apart relationships to eventually build them back up is a common thing for sophomore seasons and could be especially effective in terms of jess/trish. i guess really, a lot of problems and conflict i have with season 2 wouldn’t be a thing if we were getting a new season next year, but we will likely have to wait another 3 years for any of this shit they put us through to actually pay off. like, it was just a shitty, low note to start another long ass hiatus, and it just makes me tired more than excited for season 3. and these especially long hiatuses are something the showrunners maybe should have taken into account when making these narrative choices. it is what it is, though.

okay, this is getting long, so final thoughts: overall, i did like this season and it in no way killed my love for the show or my love for jess/trish (although they made a solid good-faith effort in that department and that’s not including how many times they very irritatingly tried to no homo them. which i’m sure is going to kill the ship for many, but whatever, and i will most certainly bitch more about this in the coming weeks, but for today, i’m not even going to go into all the ways this show had previously defined their relationship as best friends rather than siblings. just know i’m annoyed but still very fine with my shipping choices). and i think season 3 could be a fantastic, rewarding season if we ever get it. for now though, this show has just left me emotionally exhausted and i need a bit of break from it to process.

Rambly Teen Wolf/Big Wolf On Campus meta

Preface this by saying I didn’t expect to actually get into TW. This show kicked me in the teeth, balls and every organ I do and do not possess. If I’m going to be any degree of helpful, I need some structure up in here. Fair warning, it’s just like my opinion man.

1. Characters

Tommy is Scott. A werewolf with a heart of gold that cares deeply about people around him. It’s explored much more in depth with TW, duh - they had more seasons, more money and a higher age rating, using more drama and angst. But the outline is definitely there: they are both introduced to the fantastic world of lycanthropy by their extremely knowledgeable and helpful buddies (Merton/Stiles respectively), can be shitty to their best friends (Tommy throwing Merton under the bus to save his popularity/Scott abandoning Stiles for Allison multiple times), take on the role of the designated savior of the town from supernatural threats, prefer non-lethal methods, are Alphas (Tommy’s status could be contested, I guess, but the show never put an actual emphasis on pack dynamics, probably they thought it was too odd of a concept to start explaining because then you have to get to the whole omega part and that is c o m p l i c a t e d), fight organized evil!werewolves, had two main love interests, none of which held up (yeah, weaksauce, but I thought I’d still put it out there), kinda subpar in academics but good athletes. Scott gets so much more actual character development it’s not even funny, while Tommy just sort of meanders in what he has and gets dumbed down a lot for seasons 2/3.

Merton is Stiles, no shit. A nerd best friend, a friend in need more importantly, a loyal (mostly) spastic (very) companion. Dynamic between sciles and tommerton (platonically) is quite different because of how their backstories differ - after all, Scott and Stiles have known each other since forever, while Tommy pays attention to Merton only after being bitten, when they become friends almost out of necessity. But there is no denying that all four of them, in their respective duos, are joined at the hip, oftentimes with an inclusion of a girl to break up their awesome bromance (Allison/Lori and Stacy). Merton/Stiles go unappreciated for their efforts a lot, especially if you consider they are human and yet get into the same exact shit as fast and durable werewolves, surviving by wits, last ditch effort loyalty change (Merton) or a fear override (Stiles) and saving the day half of the time because they actually do research. Both seem to have a penchant for magic (unsubtly implied but never expanded upon for Stiles), both are comedic reliefs, even if in slightly different ways as commanded by the genre, both are excellent students, both are mostly unsuccessful with women and ambiguously bi/pan/omni, if you consider the technically non-human options. Complicated family relationships. Both have abandonment/commitment issues, both room (jury is still out there for sciles because of 6b) with their best friends in college. As for notable differences, Stiles undergoes a massive character transformation, a monumental shift, I’d say - not exactly doing a 180, but inching closer than any other character to actual plot relevant growth, and not for better, which is a rarity. Merton’s personality also changes for the worse, but it’s a result of clumsy writing and forced female presence in the shows plot as a romantic crutch. It would be interesting if fan meta on Merton’s less ehh flattering moments was expanded upon and explained in the series; what I wouldn’t give for an actual quality heart to heart between Tommy and Merton Ike every show nowadays seems to have in abundance, where they call each other out on their issues.

Women are more complicated. There are no exact parallels, barring the very basic archetypes, which would do no justice to any of the four, namely Allison and Lydia for TW and Lori and Stacy for BWOC. But yes, Allison is close to Lori - a fighter, someone who can take it and dish it out. Problem with Lydia/Stacy comparison is that it breaks down as soon as Lydia gets a sliver of character development, because at first, her queen bee status definitely resonated with Stacy, but while she was put on a bus without any real involvement in the show’s plot, Lydia becomes downright plot essential.

2. Writing

BWOC had an incredible season 1, with select episodes of season 2 being very good and, well, we don’t talk about season 3. Point being, even with the constraints of a cheap Canadian show for kids it managed some genuine brilliance, I’m sure in a big way thanks to the chemistry between cast members (specifically the two of consequence). Monster Of The Week format certainly seemed to work well for them, and I will forever mourn the loss of all the potential arcs and plot twists that never saw the light of day. TW had the privilege of, despite a mediocre display in season 1, becoming popular enough to spawn 5 more seasons, and I think they definitely had very strong moments, most of them carried on the back of Dylan O'Brien, like void!Stiles, relationship between him and his dad, and yes, his relationship with Derek, which turned out to be largely inconsequential to the plot (writers queerbaited the f u c k out of its audience and then just did nothing of worth with the pairing, BUT THATS HARDLY RELEVANT). I don’t know whether Peter Knight is just that good or the innocent nature of BWOC lends itself to less complicated plots and finished stories, but most BW episodes were microcosms, closed systems that had little bearing on any overarching storylines. They provided closure, well-defined villains and good guys, which is a very appealing quality, if a touch simplistic. I admit, I would’ve liked to see something with more “depth” and conflict, but the restrictions of the channel/network/rating are nothing to sneeze at. TW on the other hand ties almost every episode into another, weaving a continuous storyline. Personally, I think they should’ve done more one off episodes to break up the monotony of waiting for action set pieces. You need some hella witty dialogue to keep people watching while fuck all is happening and they sort of failed at that (again, Stiles carried most of the comedy). Almost everyone in BWOC is uniquely likable; TW has a much bigger cast so they definitely had ups and down as far as character writing was concerned.

Main problem with this whole disjointed comparison is how you can’t compare things that aren’t on the same level. It’s not a dig at quality or anything, but TW had 6 seasons and a huge budget, while BW barely got 3. TW and BWOC kinda started in a similar vein, but boy do they differ. That being said, I have an inkling that BW may have ended up looking a lot like TW in different circumstances - if it was made at a later date, on another channel, with a different rating/audience in mind. But then again, a lot of good things BW is liked for are a direct result of these aforementioned “hurdles” - all the double entendres would never fly for a tv-14 rated show, its generally cheerful and uplifting tone was probably required by the network and being a child of the 90s it carried a lot of charm that would be borderline impossible to fabricate now if they wanted to keep the ~aesthetic. So I can only compare real TW with hypothetical BWOC that got a bigger budget and more screentime. But doing that makes NO SENSE, so imma just finish with some general thoughts about the direction show might’ve gone.

I genuinely think that in different circumstances, Merton could’ve had a wonderfully dark character development. He’s a non-violent character, but does have this morbid curiosity that could’ve put him eventually in a position to cause grievous bodily harm to someone. He seems to get off on power play (both having power over someone and surrendering it), and that’s a slippery slope for an emotionally tender and damaged character. Tommy is his rock in a number of ways, his human connection outlet, a more teen oriented show would, of course, use his ‘scars’ to carry the narrative of overcoming tragedy. Merton does the same for Tommy, being his emotional support, because how liberating it must be to not hide his werewolf side and he could do it literally with 1 (one) person before Lori came into focus. Queerbait aside, their relationship was great, a deep involved friendship, and with Tommy being so resistant to evilness and Merton being so easily corruptible, they could’ve played off this contrast in a way more interesting than what we saw in s3.

I also would’ve loved to see some female characters that aren’t barely two-dimensional; Stacy was, in one word, confused - we know very little of her actual personality, aside from her feminism rhetoric and an allergy to committed relationships. Lori was ‘the action girl’, and she got a slightly bigger piece of pie, but still not nearly enough. Fuck, I don’t even know if the show passes a Bechdel test. TW showed us actual fleshed out female friendships that weren’t toxic or competitive, would’ve been nice to see something of the sort in BWOC.
