The doctors have diagnosed it as chroma flux, a rare eye condition wherein the iris changes its color every so often. So when André’s eyes one day become a vibrant pink, life simply goes on as normal. However, that changes when it’s soon discovered that André’s blood has taken on the same color. And even glows. Not long after he’s targeted by strange Alien creatures, claiming him to be both a savior and a doomsday machine. Which one it is? No one seems to have the answer. And André might break before he ever finds out, desperate to figure out who he can trust.

In the coastal town of Grimmvik, six friends find themselves wrapped up in the mysteries surrounding the old castle up on the cliffs. With ghosts roaming the halls, reflections acting on their own, and rooms that seem to breathe and have a pulse. At first it’s a thrill. Excitement filling their veins as they sneak out in the dead of night to catch glimpses of these unexplained phenomena. That is until they discover the dungeons. Where a shrine for an old and grand mirror rests, whispering their names. What once was nothing but fun and games turns to life and death as Grimmvik’s dark history is revealed. And they’re much more involved than they could ever imagine.

In the inlands of Sweden lies Gammellunden, a massive land of dense forests and clear waters that breathes pure magic. It is a place no human ever enters, for it’s the home of the urroa; large beasts with skin as rough as stone and antlers like the branches of oak trees. Stories have traveled through generations, cautionary tales of the beasts to keep humans far away from the border. Ruben Hylén is very familiar with these morbid tales, but that doesn’t stop his curiosity, and one day he crosses the border. Stumbling upon an urroa in the middle of her bloody feast, neither has any clue of what Gammellunden has in store for them.

The Garden of Corpses : ( Eng/Swe ) Cottagegore, Magic schools, Morality

As you get older, your magic begins to solidify into an affinity — From sacred bonds with animals to the divine light from above. It is then you go to attend one of many schools specialized to train your kind of affinity. One such school is Liegården, one of Sweden's oldest schools for Elementals. This is where Isak, Heidi, Janan, Alejandra, and Nils find themselves in late August one year. Ready to learn everything they can about their powers, and maybe make life-long friends at the same time. Their plans quickly change, however, as something strange begins to take root within them, and a long-forgotten form of magic makes itself known once again. With rotting corpses resting in the forests, a conspiracy brewing within the school’s faculty, and a primal hunger steadily growing, the five friends must work quickly to uncover the secrets of the elemental. Lest they too be left to decay in the gardens.

But just because Magic is a natural part of their everyday life doesn't mean strange occurrences are any less strange. On the first day of her new school, Vega Dahl breaks the first rule; don’t talk to Leo Holm. A rule they themselves have enforced over the years. Surprisingly, they end up in an unlikely friendship. However, things quickly take a turn for the worst as strange people appear seemingly out of nowhere, and they seem to be after Vega. For reasons no one seems to know. Could it be because she's a Chimera?

A group of teens wants nothing but to fit in. To be accepted or left alone. To heal or to damage. What none wanted was to have the fate of the entire universe placed on their frail shoulders. It seems innocuous enough at first; learn to control and master their new elemental abilities, and once they’ve outgrown their mortal bodies enter the Astral plane. Where they’ll guard the gates to the universe. Simple. Well, not when you take the God of the universe into consideration. Hellbent on revenge there is only one thing she needs; for them to submit and let her back in. A goal that involves their seemingly endless torment.

Thrusted into the world of the Magical, Felix, Elias, Lukas and Jonathan try their best to adapt. It’s not easy. Especially when, as Magicians, they’re expected to know the Magical like the back of their hand. Even though they’ve only been aware of its existence for less than a week. It’s made worse when they’re brought in right during a growing crisis. Something or someone is placing harmful sigils all over Sweden, and seemingly the entire world, causing both the Magical and Mundane intensive distress and harm. In an attempt to help in any way they can, the boys wind up making themselves the biggest target for the source of the sigils. For they’re now, somehow, the only ones capable of stopping them.

Even in a world full of magic, mystical beings, and power-granting Curios, people still can’t help but find themselves stuck with no idea where to go next. Which is where Emilio has ended. Fresh out of high school and future goals, they go about their monotone life of working at a small cafe and writing poetry. This all changes when they win a game of chess for one of the café's patrons. Perhaps a bit passive-aggressively, but it does catch the attention of a group of surprisingly powerful magic users. And one night their leader —a charming young man by the name of Ivan Fellin— approaches Emilio, presenting them with one of the world's most powerful Curio’s; The Maledictus' Queen piece. And just like that their life is turned upside down, with the violent secret of the Maledictus's power looming over them like a suffocating shadow.

Something I haven't played around with in a long long time is rust. I used to love experimenting with different aging techniques and I'm getting back into it this year. . . I've had this rust solution on the go for a few months now. Favourite story you’ve written so far: we smiled, not knowing of the storm that would take everything (the storm that was us)

Fic you were nervous to post: the stars are gleaming above us but we are looking at each other’s hands and praying for stars - it’s been a while since I got back into VK.

How you choose your titles: I read my fic a lot of times and then, write the first thing that comes to mind.

Do you outline: Most of times, No. I just go into the fic with a emotion or particular line/dialogue in mind or scene in mind and everything else unravels from then. However, I do sometimes jot down things down Ideas that I wish to write for in the future so I don’t forget.

Hey guys!

After comparing folks’ availability, I wanted to see how y’all felt about a once monthly game convening on a Sunday afternoon, with a tentative plan to launch in late May or early June?

I’m still planning on using the Fate system for this game. The whole core book is available for FREE here (just input “0″ as the price), but it is also ENORMOUS and largely unnecessary for you to read to play. I can tutorial this a few ways, depending on what seems good to you. We can have a big group character creation/tutorial session; I can have one-on-one sessions to brainstorm characters and walk you through the basic mechanics (handy to schedule BEFORE game date!); or I can post some basic information here to my tumblr, going over the character sheet, basic actions, answer questions, etc. and leave you to experiment for a while yourselves.

I would really like to host this game using roll20 for dice rolls, character sheets, maps, etc. and Discord for text and voice chat. Both are free! \o/ A Discord account would also enable us to create a channel for this game and discuss possible ideas, backstories, character connections, etc. Connecting those to each other makes the game much more personal and enjoyable, in my experience.

Lastly, since I’m sticking with the idea of using the Major Arcana as a theme, I wanted to provide a “cheat sheet” of possible magic powers. You are totally welcome to research the cards and figure out a different power set, but for those of you who might not have time or interest, here are some possibilities:

The Fool: Acrobatics; Teleportation The Magician: Witchcraft? Telekinesis? The High Priestess: Psychic. Telepathy, pre/post-cognition. The Empress: Plant control. The Emperor: Tank. Defender. Brick Shithouse. The Hierophant: Bibliomancy of some kind??? (Genuinely not sure on this one) The Lovers: Psychic empathy; charm/compulsion. The Chariot: Directional magic. (this fight clip from Soul Eater is an example of some pretty neat application?) The Strength: Beastmaster or shapeshifter? Deals heavier damage the more hits she has taken. The Hermit: Ice? Psychic location spells? The Wheel of Fortune: Luck/Probability manipulation. Justice: Exceptional swordsmanship; probably a magic sword Lurfy The Hanged Man: Gravity manipulation. Death: Transfiguration/shapeshifting or necromancy?? Temperance: Alchemy. Transmutation. The Devil: Binding and reflection. The Tower: Lightning or seismic magic. TREMENDOUS DAMAGE with also EXCEPTIONALLY BAD LUCK. The Star: Healer The Moon: Illusions and Fear Magic. Coney The Sun: Fire and light Judgement: Spirit channeling The World: Time manipulation (not full on time travel; more like haste/slow/stop in a lot of video game rpgs)

Auria Barkridge was the main/POV character of a WIP I’ve set aside called The Alchemist’s Curse. She looks sort of like this (minus my baby face). She’s a portrait painted in broad strokes; she’s a mystery wrapped in your eccentric old aunt’s collection of shawls; she’s a book with half the pages missing. You look at her and know she has an herb garden and a dusty home library tucked away somewhere. She is a very witchy woman.

Auria grew up very close to Rino Moonfall, the aforementioned alchemist. While he went off and became famous in the worlds of both sorcery and alchemy, she stayed at his secret Sylantan lab and did Witchy Things, mainly brewing and selling potions and the like. (Sidenote: witchcraft in Arda’aman is very much based on real life witchcraft, and--just like in real life--is often looked down upon as “not real magic.” Unlike in real life, witches in Arda’aman are also often the best herbalists around and act as small pharmacies for their villages. People have mixed feelings about witches.)

Meanwhile, Rino--as any decent alchemist was wont to do--made enemies. Powerful enemies. One enemy in particular, an elven woman who helped pioneer the study of alchemy in its earliest days, discovered Rino’s lab in Sylanta, found him there late one night, and cursed him into the form of a common house cat, cutting off his magic in the process. That way, she figured, he couldn’t challenge her reigning status as That Bitch in alchemy anymore.

That same night, Auria had a Dream. In this Dream, a mysterious Entity shrouded in red came to her and offered her magic beyond her wildest dreams on one condition: she use it to restore Rino to his body and power. She accepted at once, of course. She would do anything for Rino.

And so began her Quest.

Rino’s story is... somewhat different.

Rino Moonfall was a famous alchemist, and he did make enemies, as any decent alchemist was wont to do. And Rino was more than just decent. He was going to revolutionize the field, both in his pursuit of the philosopher’s stone and in his research into lifelike homunculi. Zosima Sau Hemet, an elven woman who helped pioneer the study of alchemy in its earliest days, couldn’t have him stealing her glory. Alchemists are as serious about their glory as they are about their gold, and they don’t like to share.

One night, while Rino was working on his near-finished homunculus, Zosima broke into his Sylantan lab, overpowered him, and cursed him into the form of a common house cat, cutting off his magic in the process. But Rino was, as I said, more than just a decent alchemist; he was a renowned sorcerer, and as his magic faded, in a fit of desperation, he used one last burst of power to activate his unfinished homunculus with a single order: “Help me.”

When he came to, the homunculus was active, calling itself Auria Barkridge, and could perform magic. And so began their Quest.

In time, it became clear to Rino that Auria didn’t realize she was a homunculus. As far as she was aware, she was as human as Rino. (Though if you believed the family stories, the Moonfalls had some draconic in their bloodline.) Auria’s primitive brain, overstimulated from from having been activated before Rino was ready, must have fabricated a life for itself from what little input it was given: Rino, his order, and the curse. Rino saw no reason to disillusion her of this notion. After all, she was just a mindless, albeit highly eccentric, homunculus.

By the time he realized otherwise, it was too late to tell her the truth. Because if she was a real person, if she had free will--if she could disobey her “programming”--would she really want to help Rino after she learned of his lies? She was Rino’s only hope. He couldn’t risk it.

The true story is, still, somewhat different.

When Rino, in a fit of desperation, used the last of his magic to activate his unfinished homunculus, he didn’t just pour all of his fading power into the homunculus. Magic was volatile, and draconic magic--if you believed the family stories--was even more so. If you weren’t careful, said the fearful, you could lose part of yourself in it. And Rino, for once in his life, wasn’t careful.

He unwittingly poured a part of his soul into the homunculus. That was what gave it life. That was what gave it magic. In a way, he sold his soul to Auria, which is ironic given his hatred of demonic magic. (That hatred is, in itself, ironic given his history with it.)

Rino passed out from the effort, Zosima slunk away, and the homunculus woke up. It stumbled outside, heard the birds singing, saw the ridge with its trees peeling bark, and out of that first impression of the world, fashioned a name for itself: Auria Barkridge. Her newborn, overstimulated brain tried its best to make sense of the world given the parameters set by the piece of Rino’s soul, and it fabricated a life, a past, and a Quest.

Human brains are curious things, and they despise a paradox. They always try to rationalize the impossible, and they ignore what they can’t. It doesn’t quite register in Auria’s mind just how weird it is that her memories feel like impressionist paintings; or that her childhood friend is in his late forties while she (believes she) is in her late twenties; or that she assumes strange, inexplicable, and possibly dangerous things are just normal occurrences because she doesn’t actually have a standard by which to judge “normal occurrences;” or that... etc, etc, etc.

Her knowledge of potions comes from Rino’s alchemical expertise. Her magic is an echo of his. Her adherence to her witchy aesthetic comes from his flair for the dramatic and distinct alchemical robes. She is her own person with her own personality, but a lot of her traits are Rino’s as seen through a funhouse mirror.

Meanwhile, Zosima’s curse was a transmutation spell. In alchemy, transmutation has to follow the laws of science, and the sum of the reactants must equal the sum of the product. Transmutation spells follow the same law, albeit as seen through a funhouse mirror.
