I mean honestly it's kind of wild the sort of stuff that circulates in kpop fandom as a whole. I saw a post about Baby Monster where people in the comments were calling out the ages of the members and the response those people was largely hahaha the oldies are complaining, maybe you're just too old to be a fan, say you're too old for kpop without saying you're too old for kpop, embarrassing to see these old people still listening to kpop, they are called BABY monster if they were like 20 they'd have to be OLD monster, and like... this idea held by younger generations that it is completely normal for 13 year olds to be pushed into the public eye and be under constant scrutiny from millions of people, this idea that it's completely normal for these 13 year olds to be going to school and also working for hours and hours before and afterwards, this idea that child labour as long as it's wrapped up in trendy clothes and a cool aesthetic is ok??????
I know kpop fandom in general can be toxic as hell but the way in particular it's helping feed this lifestyle of no privacy and filter fake picture perfection that the current generation are so swamped in anyway is on a whole other level.

Note
hello, i have a friend who has recently realized she is trans. we only know each other online. her family is not accepting and she doesn’t know where to start. i have no experience though and she has limited outside contact.
i know this blog probably can’t help with religious issues, but she is also a Jehovah’s Witness and wants to leave. that is an important aspect of her situation, and she is very unaware of the trans community because of it. i don’t know how to encourage her gender-wise without putting her in danger.
how can i help her?
TLDR: get out of JW first, and then start transitioning. There's too much risk of escalation
I would start with contacting ex-JW blogs because she'll need to get out of that community & get on her feet. From what I understand she won't have a shot at transitioning while in JW environments due to the amount of surveillance JW people do on each other.
Personally I would not feel comfortable disclosing my transness or my desire to transition, until I'm out of there, I'm living away from them & I don't have other people. I would fear escalation.
There's LGBTQIA+ meetups that do zoom calls, there's also other social media sites, and this doesn't even get into how there's more LGBTQIA+ media around than there was a decade ago. I know JW's basically control like screentime & media diet to be about JW content, including queerphobic content. Point being, even if she doesn't know many trans people in real life, she would not be alone in that.
Good Luck, Peace & Love,
Eve

Longevity in the Digital Age: Balancing Technology and Well-being
Tumblr media
In today's digital age, technology permeates nearly every aspect of our lives. From the moment we wake up and check our smartphones to the automated systems that control our homes, technology has woven itself into the fabric of our existence. This interconnectedness has brought about many benefits and conveniences, but it has also raised profound questions about the impact of this digital immersion on our overall well-being and longevity.
The Digital Age Dilemma
The digital age presents us with a dilemma requiring thoughtful consideration and action. On one hand, we live in an era where access to information, connectivity, and convenience has reached unprecedented heights. These advancements have transformed how we work, learn, communicate, and even access healthcare. However, the allure of these digital marvels can sometimes obscure the potential risks they pose to our physical and mental health and, consequently, our longevity.
The Benefits of Technology
Let's begin by exploring the myriad ways technology has enhanced our lives:
Access to Information: The internet has become a vast repository of knowledge, offering answers to virtually any question at our fingertips. This democratisation of information empowers us to learn, grow, and adapt more rapidly.
Connectivity: Thanks to social media, messaging apps, and video conferencing platforms, we can effortlessly connect with friends and family, irrespective of geographical distances. This has revolutionised the way we maintain relationships and find support networks.
Convenience: The digital landscape has streamlined everyday tasks, making life more efficient and time-saving. Technology has removed many of the hassles of traditional living, from online shopping to digital payments.
Healthcare Advancements: Medical technology has made significant strides, resulting in improved diagnostics, treatments, and overall healthcare outcomes. These advancements can extend our lifespan and enhance the quality of our later years.
The Pitfalls of Overuse
Despite the clear benefits of technology, overuse or misuse can have detrimental consequences for our physical and mental health:
Sedentary Lifestyle: The prevalence of screens in our daily lives often leads to prolonged periods of inactivity. Excessive screen time, especially among children and adolescents, has been linked to obesity and related health issues.
Mental Health Implications: The constant exposure to carefully curated images and lifestyles on social media can foster feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression. The incessant barrage of information and notifications can also overwhelm our mental well-being.
Sleep Disruption: The blue light emitted by screens can interfere with our circadian rhythms, leading to sleep disturbances and reduced sleep quality. Inadequate sleep, over time, poses serious health risks.
Striking the Right Balance
Balancing technology and well-being is the key to achieving longevity in the digital age. Here are practical strategies to help us find and maintain that equilibrium:
Mindful Consumption
Set Screen Time Limits: Establish daily screen time limits for yourself and your family. This simple step ensures that technology does not monopolise your day and allows for a more balanced lifestyle.
Curate Your Digital Diet: Be selective about the content you consume online. Follow and engage with sources that promote positivity, personal growth, and authentic connections while unfollowing or muting content that adds unnecessary stress or negativity to your life.
Tech-Free Zones: Designate specific areas in your home, such as the dining room or bedroom, as tech-free zones. This encourages face-to-face interactions, fosters better communication, and improves sleep hygiene.
Prioritise Physical Health
Regular Exercise: Counteract the passive nature of many digital activities by incorporating physical activity into your daily routine. Moving, whether a brisk walk, a yoga session, or a home workout, is a priority.
Eye Care: Did you know that our eyes need some rest, too, just like our bodies? Well, they do! And one super easy way to give your eyes a break is by following the 20-20-20 rule. So what is it, you ask? It's simple - every 20 minutes, take a break for 20 seconds and shift your focus to something at least 20 feet away. This quick exercise can help reduce eye strain and keep your eyes healthy. So, let's give those peepers a break and enjoy a clearer, brighter view!
Sleep Hygiene: Create a sleep-conducive environment by keeping screens out of the bedroom, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, and winding down with relaxing activities before bedtime.
Nurture Mental Well-being
Digital Detox: Consider periodic digital detoxes where you intentionally disconnect from screens. Use this time to engage with nature, pursue creative hobbies, or simply unwind without the constant digital noise.
Mindfulness Practice: Practising mindfulness and meditation daily is a good idea. These practices can help you feel less stressed, improve your concentration, and make you more aware of your thoughts and feelings. All of these things can help you feel better mentally and emotionally.
Seek Professional Help: If you find yourself struggling with mental health issues exacerbated by technology use, do not hesitate to seek help from a mental health professional. Their guidance and support can be invaluable on your journey to recovery and balance.
Technology for Longevity
While there are challenges associated with technology, it can also be a valuable tool for improving our longevity:
Health Monitoring
Wearable Devices: Embrace wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, to monitor your health in real time. These devices can track your physical activity, heart rate, sleep patterns, and more, helping you make informed decisions about your well-being.
Telemedicine: Explore the convenience of telemedicine for healthcare consultations. Virtual appointments can provide quick access to medical advice, reducing the need for in-person visits and improving healthcare accessibility.
Lifelong Learning
Online Courses: Take advantage of the wealth of online courses available. Whether you're interested in acquiring new skills, delving into a hobby, or pursuing advanced education, the Internet offers diverse opportunities for lifelong learning.
Brain Training Apps: Consider using brain training apps and games to keep your mind sharp as you age. These digital tools can help maintain cognitive health and stimulate mental agility.
Social Connection
Virtual Gatherings: When physical gatherings are challenging, technology lets us stay connected virtually. Video calls and online gatherings allow us to share moments, celebrate milestones, and maintain meaningful relationships.
Online Communities: Joining online communities and forums centred around your interests can provide a sense of belonging and social connection. These digital spaces offer opportunities for camaraderie and support.
In conclusion, longevity in the digital age is about finding a harmonious relationship between technology and well-being. While technology offers many advantages, it's crucial to be mindful of its potential pitfalls and take proactive steps to mitigate them. By incorporating digital detoxes, maintaining physical and mental health, and harnessing technology for our benefit, we can gracefully navigate the digital age and enjoy a longer, healthier life. If you want to go deeper into a better lifestyle and well-being, you should consider hiring a health mentor from Healthy Life Side. They can offer essential advice and support as you strive for a more nutritious and balanced lifestyle.

Effects of toxic masculinity on Men
Toxic masculinity is a collection of ideas and actions linked with conventional male gender norms that can be damaging to both men and women. This term refers to the societal norms and expectations that characterise masculinity as domineering, aggressive, and emotionally repressed, while simultaneously encouraging sexism, homophobia, and violence.
Early access to the internet has tremendous impacts on the development of the pre-frontal cortex of the brain, this region of the brain is responsible for critical thinking, decision making, logical reasoning etc and is fully developed until the age of 25 years in young male adults. Some of the negative impacts, to name a few are as follows-
Decreased attention span: Constant stimulus from the internet can result in a shorter attention span and difficulties maintaining continuous focus, which can have an impact on academic and professional performance.
Impaired critical thinking: The internet may be a source of disinformation and skewed opinions, which can impair critical thinking and reasoning abilities.
Addiction: The internet, particularly social media and online gaming, maybe addicting, leading to obsessive behaviour and interfering with daily life.
Social Isolation: While the internet can facilitate social engagement, excessive use can lead to social isolation and difficulties with face-to-face communication.
Mental health problems: The internet can exacerbate mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, and poor self-esteem, particularly in young adults who are sensitive to negative social comparison and cyberbullying that can occur online.
Sleep disruptions: Heavy internet use, particularly at night, can disrupt sleep patterns, resulting in weariness and trouble concentrating and remembering.
Toxic masculinity may express itself in a variety of ways, including aggressiveness, sexism, and emotional repression. Guys who hold these attitudes may feel pressured to demonstrate their masculinity by domineering behaviours such as physical aggression or sexual conquests. They may also feel compelled to repress their feelings and avoid exhibiting vulnerability, which can lead to mental health issues as well as difficulties in building meaningful connections.
Males are frequently trained from an early age to conform to conventional masculine norms, which may include violence, dominance, and emotional repression. This can result in the internalisation of toxic masculine features and the notion that these attributes are required to be considered a "genuine guy." Men may also experience peer pressure to conform to harmful masculinity standards, especially in group contexts where aggressiveness or dominance is prized. Toxic masculinity may establish a culture that stigmatises vulnerability and emotional expression, leading men to dread being perceived as weak or vulnerable if they do not conform to traditional male ideals. Toxic masculinity can be viewed as a strategy to gain dominance and control over others, particularly women and oppressed groups. This might be alluring to guys who feel helpless in other aspects of their lives. Men may lack strong male role models that model healthy masculinity and emotional expression, prompting them to rely on toxic masculine attributes to navigate their own identities.
Toxic ‘Influencers’ like Andrew Tate play a crucial role in spurring the vicious cycle of toxicity on online platforms, influencers like Tate are part of a new crop of male influencers dispensing "help" on professional advancement, diets, and relationships. Tate was a professional kickboxer who rose to popularity after being booted out of the Big Brother house in 2016 following the release of a video of him beating a lady.
But, in recent months, he has become an internet sensation as a result of his social media approach, which has seen his films spread like wildfire through people's screens. Thousands of individuals uploaded and reuploaded videos of his sexist and hateful statements as part of a viral marketing approach to promote his life-coaching course through affiliate marketing.
Tate's material is characterised by its violent invective, female degradation, and consumerist decadence. Tate was later barred from using Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Tate, though, is not alone on these networks.
These males prey on adolescent boys who may not feel good about themselves and are searching for role models in their life.
Toxic masculine behaviour must be addressed through a multidimensional strategy that promotes education, role models, emotional expression, language, positive reinforcement, victim support, and empowerment.
Education is critical in overcoming toxic masculinity. We must provide men and boys with resources and information regarding the harmful impacts of toxic masculinity, particularly the harm it causes to themselves and others. Positive male role models who promote healthy masculinity and emotional expressions, such as dads, mentors, coaches, or other male figures in the community, should be encouraged. Promoting emotional literacy and expression among men and boys, as well as resources and assistance for individuals who struggle with emotional management. While dealing with a person who adheres to toxic masculinity we should refrain from using language and behaviour that perpetuates toxic masculinity, such as homophobic or sexist insults, and instead encourage inclusive and polite language. Promoting  constructive conduct and healthy masculinity, such as empathy, compassion, and respect for others, through positive reinforcement, remains another essential to curbing toxic masculinity. Support for victims: Provide resources and assistance to people who have been harmed by toxic masculinity, particularly women and oppressed groups. Inspire men and boys to take an active part in promoting healthy masculinity and combating toxic masculinity in their communities.
To summarise, toxic masculinity is a prevalent and damaging phenomenon that impacts people, communities, and society as a whole. Men are harmed not just by dogmatic adherence to conventional masculine standards that promote aggressiveness, dominance, and emotion repression, but also by women and oppressed groups. Toxic masculinity relates to a variety of societal concerns, such as gender-based violence, mental health problems, and socioeconomic injustice.

Let’s talk about Instagram “influencer” culture.
My younger brother and his girlfriend are Instagram influencers. They aren’t household names with a million fans apiece, but they each have a decent following. They’ve been featured in various lists and roundups of people whose lives and relationships are #goals, and they both earn a steady income from Instagram. Not enough to make a full-time living, but enough to make pouring hundreds of hours into their Instagram careers worth their while.
Despite being so close to an Instagram influencer - several of the most popular photos on my brother’s account were taken by me - I have some serious qualms about Instragram “influencer” culture as a whole. I studied the impact of platforms like Instagram in graduate school - I have a master’s degree in clinical psychology, and I spent part of my time in grad school working with a professor who studies the impact of social media on mental health. A recent study found that out of all social media platforms, Instagram is the worst for your mental health. I’ve also had the chance to see firsthand what a life lived on Instagram has meant for my brother, and the toll it continues to take on him.
So what makes Instagram influencer culture so toxic for both the people who create it and the people influenced by it? For starters: It’s faker than you think. Instagram stars intentionally market themselves as “authentic” and “real” - you are led to believe that you are getting an unfiltered glimpse into someone’s daily life as you follow along with their pictures and their daily stories. In reality, however, a huge amount of time, effort and money goes into the images you see. My brother and his girlfriend take hundreds of photos in order to get one or two shots worthy of posting. Outings are often little more than photoshoots; a “hike” is often just a short walk to a scenic location, followed by hours of photos. Ditto for ice skating, beach days and photos from music festivals. They don’t get to enjoy many of the activities they are depicted doing with big smiles on Instagram, because the focus is on capturing the perfect photo. Photos are often planned weeks in advance, vacations are booked based on which locations will make the best backdrops, and the fancy food in their pictures often goes cold while they get the perfect shot. The fact that they want to create beautiful images is not an issue - after all, the pictures in many mainstream ads are stunning. The issue is that they’re specifically pretending not to be models or advertisers; they are intentionally leading you to believe that what you’re seeing is candid daily life. Which leads me to...
It presents unattainable ideals as everyday life. Instagram influencers roll out of bed in perfect and tastefully-decorated apartments, eat nutritious and visually stunning meals, and lead full, active lives of glamour and adventure. Their skin is never flawed, their hair never out of place, and their outfits never tacky. Again, this isn’t a problem if you are creating an advertisement or a TV show - something that your viewers know is manufactured to look perfect - but Instagram stars hinge their success on pretending that that level of non-stop perfect is their average, daily life. In reality, my brother’s girlfriend piles dirty laundry and books in her bathtub so that her bedroom looks “minimalist” in her photos, and the two of them post weeks-old starry-eyed couple photos with gushy captions even when they are on the verge of breaking up. Influencers themselves tend to be young, attractive, white, thin, able-bodied, middle-class cis people - an ideal that is already unattainable for most people - and yet they present themselves as totally average people. When flaws and problems are revealed, it’s often in a very controlled way, and generally tied in with some kind of pithy advice or mantra. Which brings us to...
It encourages people with no credentials to hand out “expert” advice. This is probably one of the most damaging aspects of influencer culture. 22-year-olds with absolutely no formal training in nutrition, mental health, medicine, dermatology or fitness are handing out “expert” wellness advice - or even designing diets, skincare routines, and workout regimens for others - and feeling increasingly comfortable doing it. Vulnerable people who may have very serious issues lap this advice up, regardless of how unsound or untested it may be; after all, these influencers appear to have perfect lives, and it’s easy to assume that they must know the secrets of health, happiness and clear skin. There are a couple of huge problems with this. For one, many people aren’t actually aware of why they are successful - if a conventionally attractive cis white woman whose parents financially support her tells you that the secret to avoiding stress is meditation and mud masks, you should be skeptical of that advice. People in positions of relative privilege are often blind to the many advantages they have, and will attribute their success to their “wellness routines” or “positive thinking”, rather than the social advantages that are not available to many of their followers. Also, influencers are often peddling advice that they themselves do not follow. My brother’s girlfriend makes money by selling advice on how to make a full-time living while travelling the world, despite the fact that she isn’t actually able to do that. Many influencers who promote extremely restrictive diets and health regimes have admitted that they themselves do not follow these diets. People who are feeling deeply insecure about their bodies, relationships, careers, lifestyles and productivity are turning to advice from people who aren’t qualified to help. And why does every Instagram star suddenly seem to be offering themselves up as a “wellness” expert? It’s because...
It exists to sell you things, while pretending otherwise. As much as the influencer community presents itself as being all about “authenticity”, “expression”, “empowerment”, or “wellness”, at the end of the day, it is all about trying to sell you things, even if that means exploiting your deepest insecurities. A company that employs plus-sized models to represent their $90 leggings is still a company that, at the end of the day, is trying to sell you $90 leggings, and if they have to pay someone to convince you that these leggings are the only thing standing between you and finally loving your body and having the courage to chase your dreams, then that’s exactly what they are going to do. It is an advertisement, dressed up as self-help and inspiration from an ordinary person who just wants you to succeed. If you find that you feel bad about yourself after a couple of minutes of scrolling through your instagram feed, that’s the impact that the app is meant to have on you. People who are completely satisfied with themselves and their lives don’t buy things they don’t need - making you feel like your life should be better is the key to selling you a wide variety of products.
Does all this mean that Instagram is evil, or that influencers are bad people? Of course not. They are people trying to make money through self-expression, and many produce interesting and engaging content. Many of them are very young, and may not think about the impact that they might be having on their followers. I certainly don’t think that any of them set out to deceive people. But it is important to think critically about the media we consume, the purpose of that media, and the message it carries. I have known many people, both personally and professionally, who find that they feel worse about themselves after spending an afternoon scrolling through social media, and I think it’s important for all of us to examine why that may be, and take steps to protect our own mental health.

Death of the Girlboss and Rise of 'That Girl' Aesthetic 2/2
Following the death of the Girlboss trend, a new highly aspirational mould for young women to aspire towards emerged and it's known as 'That Girl'. 'That Girl' is a trend that has existed since the beginning of Youtube and Influencer culture and has recently been given a title, due to it's popularisation on Tik Tok and Youtube.
Tumblr media
Who is 'That Girl'? She's an evolved version of the Cool Girl, a Cool Girl who knows how to market and document herself. 'That Girl' is a blend of classic wellness tropes such as avocado toast and smoothie bowls, yoga and hiit workouts, self optimisation and hustle culture. Videos of her are all over social media, often in the form of Morning/Night routines, What I Eat In A Day videos, Workout videos and routines of all kinds. They essential idealise being a glamorous, productive, perfect version of themselves.
In these videos, thin, predominantly white women wake up, workout, eat, write their goals for the day and drink an iced coffee, all before 7am. Crucially, they make it look beautiful and serene. Everything – from the depiction of meals to the perfectly laid out workout set – has a minimalist aesthetic, resembling a moving Pinterest board.
These videos can be found on every social media outlet, and can be aspirational as they provide motivation and show us how to achieve more in our day. However, it becomes problematic when we start to equate productivity with happiness. Within the trend there are some elements that are overlooked, that I feel can have serious implications. Some of these videos promote under-eating, toxic productivity and the promotion of one, non-diverse image of health.
Tumblr media
There is also the issue that majority of the creators who are recognised for embodying this trend are thin white women. This is unsurprising to a degree – wellness has long faced accusations of whitewashing and a lack of diversity – but TikTok videos are user-generated, suggesting women of colour don’t feel sufficiently aligned to wellness or at least to the ‘that girl’ trend to join in.
"At first I think the intentions of this trend were pure; the term ‘that girl’ was popular among Black women and Black queer folks, and white women have taken it over and they put an aesthetic over it that is not achievable to many," says Jada, 17, from Illinois. Jada also makes the point that the videos pushing the trend generally centre white women, which suggests that whiteness is aspirational.
On top of this, many videos relating to the trend encourage under-eating and misinform viewers on what is considered a health diet. In a way, it is an updated version of 2010's clean eating phenomenon. In which low-calorie, carb-lacking meals were encouraged and seen as aesthetically beautiful, all the while masking and spreading a fear of ‘unhealthy’ aka enjoyable, joyous food. The effect that this trend has on viewers was known as orthorexia, a new form of disordered eating.
What's interesting about the 'That Girl' ideal is that it's centered around controlling what one consumes in order for aesthetic benefit.
However, most of the people making videos relating to the 'That Girl' trend are well intentioned. Content creators often describe the videos as a source of inspiration that inspires viewers to be more productive, eat healthier and live a better life.
Along with this, Wellness is often positioned as an all-or-nothing mentality which can leave participants feeling disheartened and like they've failed if they do not successfully embody all aspects of the trend every day.
In an article by i-D magazine titled 'Girlboss culture isn't dead, it's rebranded as "that girl" now,' Carl Cederström, associate professor at Stockholm University and co-author of The Wellness Syndrome comments on an interesting aspect of the trend. The fact that there is no end goal. “Our culture of self-help generally has no purpose. You don’t ask yourself why you’re doing each of these things, you just do it,” Carl tells i-D. “You very rarely find a book on why you should lose weight. It’s always how you should lose weight.” This means our approach to health is currently far more aesthetic than science-driven, excluding marginalised people from being conceived as healthy and feeding into fatphobia.
Carl explains that in the wake of girlboss culture, we’re seeing a marriage of work and wellness, shifting from work ethic to “work out ethic”. This, he says, is part of 24/7 capitalism and has been further fuelled by social isolation during the pandemic (where the first response for many staying home was to create a rigorous schedule and workout routine). “Increasingly, we are taught or socialised into thinking about ourselves as our own corporations,” he says. “The erosion of the line of private and profession is something you see in these trends because it means the work never ends. The work is your life itself.”
This is a very important take on the matter that is not discussed often enough. On top of this, the aesthetic encourages working hard in silence which encourages isolation and a single minded mindset towards wellness and happiness.
Laurie Santos, professor of psychology at Yale University, offers many scientifically proven steps for boosting happiness in her popular course, The Science of Well-Being. This includes participating in small acts of kindness and prioritising social connection, both of which centre community wellness. “As someone who studies happiness, it's great to see that more people are focusing on wellness and wellbeing. But I think that we want to do that, not in this aspirational way where it's something we have to do, but that it's something that we really are doing for good reasons,” she says. “Whenever I see people engaging in wellness practices without a little bit of self-compassion, I often get worried that the practice of going after being a healthier person is making you more unhealthy — just because of the stress of doing that.”
While definitely well intentioned in nature, I feel that the 'That Girl' concept is much like the 'Cool Girl' trend. It's a made up concept yet still is highly aspiration to many young women. The problem with it is that it teaches us that following these routines will equate to happiness and worthiness. While I feel that many of the actions included in this videos will bring these feelings, it's important to note that one doesn't need to look "hot" while doing them, do them religiously, or document them to be worthy.
We also need to acknowledge that not every girl will find joy and satisfaction in these activities, and there's nothing wrong with that. I think understanding ourselves as individuals needs to be encouraged, because this trend can give the illusion that we are on the right path, when really we have spent so much time on another path that we forget to walk down our own.

Part 2
♪~ ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
The worst thing about being a popular fashion model, Adrien thought, was his image pasted all over the city. He had to see himself in the mirror enough as it was; seeing himself dressed up in the most feminine clothes his father could design, his long blond hair professionally styled into curls and braids and up-dos, and with enough makeup for three circus clowns made his skin itch. All of Paris, all of the world saw him as he was on the billboards and posters, in heavily edited magazine photos, set on backgrounds of flowers and butterflies. Everyone saw Adrien as a girl, Gabriel Agreste’s beautiful model daughter. Everyone except himself.
He had thought about coming out to his mother and father before, but while he was trying to find the nerve or the right moment, he overheard his father firing one of his models for coming out as trans. After that, his anxiety grew. He could never tell his parents, especially his father, not until he was living on his own and not relying on his modelling career and his father for survival.
Even when he went to school for the first time, he had to introduce himself as his dead name and endure the misgendering. He had considered coming out to Chloe, too, but while she didn’t seem to be transphobic, he didn’t trust her enough to keep it a secret. She thrived on gossip, sometimes even at the expense of her friends. Whether or not it was on purpose didn’t exactly matter to Adrien in this situation.
Plagg was the first person he ever came out to, not entirely on purpose. When he transformed into Chat Noir the first time, he actually cried for a few minutes. He felt different and he felt right and when he caught his reflection in a mirror he saw exactly who he wanted to be. Aside from his inhuman eyes and the strangeness of the costume, of course. His hair was short and messy and the makeup his father insisted he wear every day was entirely gone.
His costume was thick black leather, covering his whole body up to his neck where a bell sat at his collar. There was soft padding on his shoulders, elbows, and knees, barely visible under the leather. He had black combat boots with green soles that reached half way up his calf, laced with bright green laces, and lined with soft material if the same colour. His gloves, too, were black leather with soft green lining, claws on the fingers. Over the black bodysuit, he had a sleeveless hoodie; the fabric was looser and lighter than the leather, it almost seemed like cotton except it was sleek and waterproof. The pouch pocket was bright green with a single black paw print in the middle. All of the lining was the same bright green, visible in the hood and extending to the hems of the shirt. The hood itself had spaces cut out for the leather cat ears on his head, and fit loose and comfortable without falling over his eyes. Most importantly to Adrien, his chest was entirely flat without pressure.
After the first Akuma was stopped and Adrien transformed back, Plagg was suddenly gentle where he wasn’t before. “So what was that, then? What are your pronouns? Got a different name than the one I know?” After answering the questions and having another emotional moment, Plagg was back to being aloof and snarky, seemingly only concerned with cheese.
Adrien warmed up to the little cat-god fast. It felt more than amazing to be called the right thing for once, and Plagg at the least acknowledged his angry and frustrated rants about anything related to his gender that he’d never been able to share with anyone before. “As long as you keep giving me cheese,” Plagg had said, but somewhere along the way the meaning of the sentence changed to “always”, unspoken but genuine.
At school, things started out nice despite the rough start from being Chloe’s friend. The misgendering and dead name weighed down on him, though, and soon his new friends shared their concern about him. No one had any idea what it was about. It could be anything from his father to his mother to his modelling to just not getting enough sleep, but he’d hidden himself enough that no one would ever guess what it truly was about.
Nino was good about (sort of) silent comfort, offering to talk about it but relenting easily and moving to sharing music, food, memes, stories, and just a comforting presence. Alya always tried to figure out what was wrong and when she came to her own conclusions she would give him advice, though it was never the advice he needed. And Marinette...
Though Marinette was shy and got flustered easily, when her friends were in pain, she would stop at nothing to help them feel better. When he sighed about going home at the end of the day, she would invite him over to do homework, which usually ended up actually being video games. It became almost a routine by the spring, the two of them (and sometimes their friends) hanging out in the Dupain-Cheng apartment, snacking on yesterday’s left-over pastries while they played games, watched movies, talked, or rarely actually doing homework. Marinette’s parents were incredibly kind to Adrien, he was even envious that Marinette had such a supportive family. She was open about her biromantic identity, and never suffered for it at home.
As a result of their time spent together and Marinette’s own tendencies to not back down from helping her friends, she was the second person he came out to. It was a mess of tears between them, and Marinette apologized profusely for the misgendering, despite having no idea she was doing it. It made Adrien laugh, which made Marinette laugh, and then they were both laughing and crying at the same time. When Sabine came up to check on them, Adrien found he didn’t care that she was seeing him like this, and didn’t try to hide his identity from her anymore. Then, Sabine was crying with them, hugging Adrien close and giving him all the affirmations he never got from another human. (It was then that he decided he was now Adrien Dupain-Cheng, and she and Tom were his new parents.)
They all understood how important it was to keep this new information a secret, from everyone. If it got to his father or, gods forbid, the media, everything would go to hell in a hand basket. Marinette helped him fix his makeup before he left, apologizing even more about him needing to wear it. As usual, Sabine snuck some fresh pastries into his bag while he pretended not to notice when she hugged him goodbye. On the way out, Tom stopped him. The bakery was empty, just closed for the evening minutes before. “Adrien,” the news had reached him earlier via Sabine, “if you ever ever need a place to go for any reason, you’re always welcome here. No questions asked, any time day or night.” He had to hand a napkin to Adrien, tears gathering in his eyes again. As Adrien’s car pulled up to the front of the bakery, they said goodbye for the night, and Adrien was on his way back to the mansion. It wasn’t home, not anymore.
He came out to Ladybug third, but he didn’t know if it counted as third when he was Chat Noir. It was a rather casual interaction, against all expectations. The two of them were jogging across rooftops, keeping their eyes out for any sort of problem, just a regular Saturday patrol. They were talking about TV shows, sharing their theories for the next episode and the rest of the season; Ladybug theorized that one of the characters was a trans man, and Chat Noir seized the opportunity without a second thought. “Oh, like me,” he said, and Ladybug didn’t even blink. She just smiled at him, and he smiled back. Before they parted for the night, she thanked him for trusting her with his secret and promised it was safe with her. “I know, my Lady, I wouldn’t have told you if I thought you wouldn’t.” Nothing even changed between them after that, though Ladybug did seem to talk more openly about queer subjects when they came up.
He came out to other classmates and friends on a case by case basis, with Marinette there for support every time. Nathaniel, Alix, Nino, Rose and Juleka, Kagami. People he could trust entirely to keep it a secret and that he knew weren’t queerphobic from their time knowing each other. He always had some anxiety about it anyways, but with constant unspoken support from Marinette and her parents, it didn’t seem as daunting as before. Nathaniel drew pictures of him with different styles of short hair and more masculine outfits, “for when you’re able to choose your appearance”. Marinette had helped Nathaniel design the outfits, and she had plenty more in her own sketchbook designed just for Adrien. Alix and Nino casually called him “dude” and “bro”, a way to affirm him without actually outing him, since the terms were so casual and usually neutral.
As his support outside of the mansion grew, Adrien realized day after day just how terribly he was treated by his father, and Natalie and the other staff by proxy. Aside from his father’s thinly veiled queerphobia, he also controlled Adrien’s diet, his schedule, his social life, his career, his finances, and almost every aspect of his life. Before going to school, he thought most families were like that. It wasn’t until Alya complained about being saddled with babysitting again and the others lamented with her that three evenings that week was a bit excessive that Adrien realized most of his classmates actually got to decided what they did in their spare time without having to beg for permission. They got to choose what to eat for lunch, some even got to make their own food, and they didn’t have to follow a strict diet. They weren’t constantly afraid of their parents punishing them at the slightest mistake.
He spent more and more time at the Dupain-Cheng’s, at home, they even gave him his own key. More than once they’d woken up early to open the bakery, just to find him curled up on the couch in his clothes from the day before, the throw blanket wrapped tightly around him. Marinette made plenty of casual clothes and loungewear for him, until half of her closet was his. They almost always had a plate of leftovers from dinner with his name on it in the fridge. One afternoon, they surprised Adrien; the room that was formerly the office was converted into a full bedroom with his clothes moved into the closet already. The room was even decorated, soft green and light grey, paintings on the walls, a desk with a silver cat paperweight next to a lamp. Plagg seemed even more excited about it than Adrien was, which was saying a lot because Adrien was over the moon. They really were serious about the “anytime, no questions asked”.
After three years of school and crime fighting, Adrien made the biggest decision in his life. He talked to the bank and a lawyer. He had his rightful savings moved from the account under his father’s surveillance to a brand new private account. He had his friends and real family at his back. And then, he came out to his father. It went about as well as he expected; Gabriel threw a fit, accused Adrien of acting out for attention, and ultimately ended up locking Adrien in his room and forbidding him from going to school. Fortunately for Adrien, he had an escape plan in the form of a magical ring.
He was across the city in a matter of minutes, detransformed, and contacting his lawyer. His emancipation was officially in process. He texted the Dupain-Cheng family chat letting them know he told his father and it didn’t go well, but he was not in the house and he was safe. They were the only ones who knew about his plan, given they were part of it all. Though the idea of living full time with Marinette gave him butterflies, he could ignore his crush for everyone’s comfort.
Before his father or Natalie had a chance to suspend his access to his accounts, he made an Instagram post. A photo of himself, no makeup and his hair pulled back into a bun so it wasn’t so visible, wearing one of the more formal outfits Marinette made for him (a blue suit with a white undershirt and a pink bow tie). It had been taken a few days earlier, in front of a nondescript grey wall in his bedroom, unable to be linked to any location. As the caption, he wrote “Adrien Agreste, he/him, proudly trans! Stay strong, and know you are loved.” He posted it in as many transgender and fashion tags as he could, and was happy to see screenshots of it spreading almost immediately before it was taken down from his own account and his access was cut off. He texted Marinette one last time to tell her he would be unable to contact her over the phone, then turned the phone off, left it on a nearby cafe table, and disappeared down an alley. Thirty seconds later, Chat Noir was vaulting between buildings, headed nowhere in particular.

The Pandemic Gave Us a Very New Vocabulary
China announced the first case of a Novel Coronavirus in December 2019. (Covid-19). In late 2019, it had spread exponentially and was declared a pandemic in March 2020 by World Health Organization. Modern quarantine measures, such as lockdowns, curfews, banning community gatherings, cancellation of scheduled social and public activities, closure of mass transit networks, and other travel restrictions, have been implemented internationally to halt the spread of the COVID19 virus. These have impacted the majority (if not all) of the world’s population, dramatically altering what was previously considered normal and complicating aspects of everyday life that were previously easy and uncomplicated. Many people’s daily life has been drastically altered, and “normal” ways of life as we know them have been suspended indefinitely as well.
Tumblr media
The COVID-19 pandemic has posed catastrophic threat to human civilization in terms of health, environment, and lifestyle. The primary impact of the virus is on human health, including direct respiratory system injury, compromise the immune system, aggravation of underlying medical conditions, and ultimately systemic failure and death. Furthermore, as quarantine or isolation has been imposed that involves separation from friends and family, as well as a change from normal daily routines, it jeopardizes the social, mental, and spiritual health of individuals.
Tumblr media
When the virus spreads, so does the risk of misinformation and false evidence, which the WHO refers to as an "infodemic." The internet has become a common resource for learning about health and researching one's own health condition before claiming, "I am healthy!" without testing its legitimacy. So, what does health mean to you? Considering our current normal environment., does your own view of health changes? Are you one of those individuals who share fake news to scare? How and why should you avoid doing it? Do you keep yourself informed? Why do you think it is relevant to be informed and learn our current health status in this time?
As we embark in this new normal, the term “health” has become stereotyped. Health appears to be a straightforward concept, but as we draw closer and attempt to define and explain it, the solidity disappears. In this feature, health will be defined along with health education in a new normal setting.
Health is dynamic and ever-changing. Each person has their subjective definition of health. However, traditionally health has been defined in terms of the presence or absence of disease. As for the World Health Organization (WHO), “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social, and spiritual well-being and not merely the absence of disease.” The four dimensions of health are physical, mental, social, and spiritual.
Physical- characterized in terms of functional status and the capacity to perform a wide range of activities, including self-care, household work, and leisure activities.
Mental- focused on anxiety disorders, positive well-being, and self-control
Social- developing relationships with others, both with people in immediate surroundings and with the larger community through cultural, spiritual, and political activities.
Tumblr media
These dimensions are all interconnected, which means they affect one another. If one dimension is affected, the other will follow as well. For example, if an individual tested positive for the virus, some of his/her daily activities will be restricted. Must also avoid social environments so that he/she does not infect others, which may lead to feelings such as depression.
In this new normal setting, stereotyping health would be, not being infected by the virus. Being negative with the virus could mean that an individual has strong innate immunity with a good diet and healthy lifestyle thus enable them to perform daily living activities. We can then conclude that an individual is healthy. Nonetheless, health is more than just biological elements or social role performance and absence of the virus; it is a complex balance with the world setting and the “ability to live physically, emotionally, and socially.”
Tumblr media
Health in the new normal setting is linked to governmental regulations. COVID-19 is a public health crisis that has imposed steep obstacles. The pandemic response poses significant challenges for the physical and mental health and social wellbeing, which are essential cornerstones of overall health. These measures have disproportionately impacted the marginalized and disadvantaged populations-especially those living in poverty, working in the informal economy, or lacking stable housing-threatening sustained access to the essential determinant of health.
Tumblr media
Orders to “stay at home” impoverish societies by limiting public life keeping individuals out of it. The general populations freedom to move freely has been limited. The social isolation associated with the new normal setting has been shown to have a negative impact on a variety of mental health indicators. Loneliness, for instance, causes mood swings, depression, and an increase in overall mortality. Health necessitates more than disease eradication; it must be described and interpreted holistically since health is a human right that must be rendered clear.
However, although the negative outcome of this new normal setting is immense, we can also say that health is much like the yin and yang concept. Whereas yin represents darkness and positivity, and yang presents light and activity like improved hygiene. These concepts are necessary to maintain life’s balance and harmony. Health is greatly influenced by personal feelings—energy, comfort, and the ability to perform. Also, health is personal but an elastic concept and must not be compared to a species-wide baseline, but a personal phenomenological baseline. If an individual has the capacity to adapt well and maintain balance, stress and resultant disease, or limitation of action including social capacity are minimized.
In a new normal environment, health can also be defined as instrumental. The idea of health as an instrument is a different way of describing a contribution to society, both individually and collectively. In short, we are talking about how an individual's behavior and decisions that can affect improvements in health status. My ‘being healthy and keeping my family healthy is an instrument for preventing the spread of this disease in the population. Coronavirus does not only affect the elderly and others who are medically vulnerable. We are aware that it has the potential to impact and us. As a result, it is also our mutual duty to prevent the virus from spreading from person to person.
Pandemic is a word that if misused can cause unreasonable fear or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over leading to unnecessary suffering and death. As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across the world, it has been accompanied by an enormous misinformation which the WHO described as an ‘infodemic’. At a time when reliable information is vital for public health, fake news and propaganda about COVID-19 is spreading even faster than the facts and is just as dangerous. It is important to protect the public false information.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, health officials provided alerts and recommendations via various channels such as television and infographics on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This was often accompanied by the implementation of safety parameters on people's movement, which led in some degree of success in combating the virus. Some preventive measures, such as social isolation, regular hand washing, wearing face masks, and avoiding close contact with sick people or suspected Covid-19 cases, reduce the risk of infection with COVID-19. However, putting these steps into effect regularly is a major challenge.
Hence, health education may serve as a catalyst for the public to be informed to avoid risking their lives from the spreading  ‘appears to be true news’ ,  to promote behavioral change and empower communities which will assist them in adapting beneficial habits in this long battle against COVID-19 while we are in the new normal setting. Health education is not just for individual’s benefit but also that of others and to provide resources and opportunities to make such changes.
Tumblr media
Some people may claimed they were at low to no risk because they underestimated the severity of the issue.
Tumblr media
Therefore, improving people's habits necessitates motivating people to incorporate preventive behaviors in their everyday lives by supplying them with a clear rationale. The health education and information should be structured in a way that is understandable to the public and can connect with their own experience, but it should also be timely, factual, and acceptable to the relevant subgroups in the population.
At this time of the global pandemic, all of us can be a health educator. It is critical to remain an advocate for those in the society that are especially vulnerable—those who are facing this pandemic with all the anxiety and uncertainty that comes with it—in the context of existing mental health and related social challenges in this new normal setting. However, let us all be responsible and fight misinformation. Let us help and guide each other to pave a new path forward to the return of day amidst differences of behaviors, habits, and perspective.

Body positivity and false myths about health.
Tumblr media
Introduction
Today, the revered ideal body consists of a tall, slender physique known as the thin-ideal. This idealized image that has been constructed by the media via magazines, movies and advertising campaigns is having adverse effects on the lives of many women, such that more than half of the women are troubled by certain aspects of their appearance and are not accepting of their bodies as a whole. The preoccupation or obsession with their physical appearance has trapped Western women into subscribing to unhealthy narratives such as "I must be thin to be accepted and loved", "A thin body will make me happy", "Dieting will help me lose weight" or "Thinness equals beauty". These nagging voices often overrun women's lives and are linked to various psychological disturbances such as depression, eating disorders, anxieties, countless addictions, BDD, as well as low self-esteem (Rieves & Cash, 1996), relationship difficulties, and sexual dysfunctions (Dworkin & Kerr, 1987).
In addition to noting that people with perceived obesity (again, not medically diagnosed, just perceived) will experience microaggression, bullying, discrimination in housing, employment, education, and healthcare, Phelan notes that their interactions with healthcare professionals is directly affected by size bias.
In these studies by the Mayo Clinic, primary care physicians reported spending less time with obese patients, less communication, and open belief in stereotypes: this patient is lazy, undisciplined, and less likely to adhere to medical advice.
These negative interactions statistically raise a patient’s chances to: delay cancer screenings and routine care, avoid routine check ups, and are more likely to have unreported diagnostic errors.
This isn’t healthy. This isn’t saving or changing any lives. This is having the opposite effect, and it is happening precisely in the places where we are suppose to be receiving “help.”
What is body positivity?
Body Positivity is a social movement rooted in the belief that all human beings should have a positive body image, in doing so it challenges the ways in which society presents and views the physical body. The movement advocates the acceptance of all bodies no matter the form, size, or appearance.
I personally like the 4 Principles of Body Positivity conceptualized by Body Positivity Activist:
ACCEPTANCE OF WHAT IS: Our bodies as is (healthy, sick, skinny, fat, missing a leg, cancer survivors, and black, white, purple, blue and everything else,) deserve respect, visibility, acceptance and have intrinsic value.
REJECTION OF “BEAUTY” STANDARDS: Body-shaming of all types has been shown to yield detrimental long-term psychological effects such as negative body image, depression, anxiety, and a multitude of eating disorders. It serves no benefits, so we reject it entirely.
ACCEPTANCE OF CHANGE: Changes to our bodies—sickness, ailments, aging, pregnancy, surgery, accidents/trauma, putting on weight, losing weight, ALL of it—should be accepted, and should not diminish the value, respect, visibility of our bodies.
TOTAL INCLUSIVITY: Body positivity is inclusive of all bodies, not just those considered to be “fat” or obese, considering most humans are socialized to have negative perceptions of their bodies.
In short, body positivity and its principles are about acceptance, inclusivity, and respect. First aspect to notice: these are all social ideas, not medical ones. Why naysayers of body positivity consistently bring up the promotion of obesity when fat bodies are displayed is a mystery to me.
The second aspect of its definition one must notice: body positivity does not “promote” any body type. It is simply stating that all body types have intrinsic value. We certainly agree with this as a society. If you intentionally hurt someone’s body--again, regardless of the look, age, or state of that body--we consider that a crime. Body positivity simply concurs with this logic.
Lastly, body positivity by definition does not purport that evolution, change, and/or a healthy lifestyle is unacceptable. You can be body positive and be healthy. In fact, body positivity promotes taking care of yourself.
1 - “Your weight is entirely within your control, you are just being lazy”
As a random guy wrote on Facebook: “Body positivity is appreciating things that are beyond your control, like the colour of your eyes, skin colour, hair texture, height, etc. Weight is entirely within your control...if you eat a lot, you will get fat. Body positivity enables gluttony which is a slap to the face for underprivileged people everywhere in the world.”
That's not entirely true: gaing wight could be caused by hormones (pregnancy, menopause, ecc), genetics (for e.g. Peter Will syndrome) other medical condition linked to endocrines such as Cushing's syndrome or a malfunction of thyroid (hypothyroidism).
The involvement of genetic factors in the development of obesity is estimated to be 40–70%. Some of these obesogenic or leptogenic genes may influence obese individuals response to weight loss or weight management.
To date, more than 400 different genes have been implicated in the causes of overweight or obesity, although only a handful appear to be major players. Genes contribute to the causes of obesity in many ways, by affecting appetite, satiety (the sense of fullness), metabolism, food cravings, body-fat distribution, and the tendency to use eating as a way to cope with stress.
The strength of the genetic influence on weight disorders varies quite a bit from person to person. Research suggests that for some people, genes account for just 25% of the predisposition to be overweight, while for others the genetic influence is as high as 70% to 80%.
Obesity or overweight is not concerned about gluttony. It could depend on a lot of factors: physical and psychological. It is proved that people with depression or anxiety may experience weight gain or weight loss due to their condition or the medications that treat them. Depression and anxiety can both be associated with overeating, poor food choices, and a more sedentary lifestyle. Over time, weight gain may eventually lead to obesity.
Body positivity is about being conformable in our skins. Appreciating what we are and what we have. Body positivity does not promote any form of body, differently of what our media do.
Tumblr media
2 — “You cold loose some weight, if you put in some dedication”
This one deleted the previous comment in which he used abused, starving people in Auschwitz to promote a diet, but I have his second one: “I meant that the problem with losing weight is just calories you eat vs calories you burn, of course the amount of calories you burn depend on hormones and a lot of other things. However, everyone can burn more calories by exercising. The Auschwitz prisoners were just an example that it is possible to lose weight, no matter the circumstances, if you REALLY put your mind to it. How you go about increasing the gap between the calories you consume and the ones you burn is up to you. Also, long term, even a 100kcal deficit per day can help you lose weight. You dont have to starve yourself to lose weight.”
Loosing weight is not always a good thing and it is not as easy like those people think.
Muscle does weigh more than fat because it is a denser product. On average, the density of fat is 0.9g/ml. The density of muscle is 1.1 g/ml. Using the averages, 1 liter of muscle weights 1.06 kg or 2.3 lbs., while 1 liter of fat weights .9 kg, or 1.98 lbs. An easier way to think of it might be: if you have an equal volumn of fat and muscle, fat is going to weigh about 80% of what the muscle weighs. This can vary due to numerous factors including race, being extremely lean or being extremely obese according to “Exercise Physiology” by William D. McArdle, et al.
The ‘take away’ points are:
Yes, muscle weighs more than fat. But….. do not assume because you started working out and you are not losing weight it is because you are increasing muscle.
The higher percent muscle you have on your body the smaller your clothing size because muscle takes up less space than fat.
On the other hand, if you are loosing weight, don't presume you are necessarly loosing fat, you could also lost muscles and this is not a good thing.
For that guy, don't eat is the solution to every weight problem. This leads to a thing called anorexia (which is one of the most painful consequences of the idealization of a “perfect body shape” myth portrayed by media). And, again, this guy really thinks that abused starving people are a good example to promote a diet. He seems to doesn't know how work human body and that if you don't eat as much to sustain your body, you will begin to feel always tired, weak and such because your body doesn't have enaugh energy to consume. We will see this in the next point.
3 — “You better have a diet”
I use the word "diet" in this context to refer to any set of restrictive food rules (barring true medical and ethical concerns). If you are feeling guilt and shame about your food choices, it is likely that you are approaching the experience of eating from a "diet mentality."
The word "diet" often has a negative connotation, so many people prefer to say they are making a “lifestyle change.” But if your lifestyle change entails rigid food rules that invoke guilt when broken, you are probably on a diet, even if in disguise. And the truth is, the diet industry wants us to "fail" so that we will continue to purchase their products. When you jump on the latest fad bandwagon, you support a multi-billion dollar industry that profits by convincing us we are inherently flawed.
Diets do not help you maintain weight loss long-term. The idea that people fail at diets because of a lack of willpower is a myth perpetuated by the diet industry. Powerful biological factors essentially ensure that your attempt at dieting will fail. Researcher Traci Mann, who has studied dieting for more than 20 years, found that there are metabolic, hormonal, and neurological changes that contribute to "diet failure."
According to Mann, "When you are dieting, you actually become more likely to notice food. . . But you don't just notice it—it actually begins to look more appetizing and tempting." Mann also stated that as you begin to lose weight, "the hormones that make you feel hungry increase" and "the hormones that help you feel full, or the level of those rather, decreases."
For the average adult in a resting state, the brain consumes about 20 percent of the body’s energy. The brain’s primary function — processing and transmitting information through electrical signals — is very, very expensive in terms of energy use.
The exact percentages are difficult to ascertain, but we have pretty good estimates of where that energy is going, though it varies by the area of the brain. In the cerebral cortex of mice, about a quarter of the brain’s energy goes to maintaining the neurons and glial cells themselves — the processes that all cells go through to remain alive. The remaining 75 percent is used for signaling — sending and processing electrical signals across the brain’s circuits. These numbers seem to be very similar in humans.
The brain is an energy-hungry organ. Despite comprising only 2 percent of the body’s weight, the brain gobbles up more than 20 percent of daily energy intake. Because the brain demands such high amounts of energy, the foods we consume greatly affect brain function, including everything from learning and memory to emotions.
Just like other cells in the body, brain cells use a form of sugar called glucose to fuel cellular activities. This energy comes from the foods we consume daily and is regularly delivered to brain cells (called neurons) through the blood.
As Mann explains, when you diet, "Your metabolism slows down. Your body uses calories in the most efficient way possible... When your body finds a way to run itself on fewer calories there tends to be more left over, and those get stored as fat."
Thus, it is no surprise that studies show that 95 percent of people will "fail" at diets. Most people can lose weight in the short-term; however, over time the majority will regain the weight they lost—and potentially gain even more. Working to suppress your weight below your natural body weight is ultimately a fruitless effort—in fact, it's an utter waste of time.
4 — “Being overweight or obese means being unhealthy”
Studies have found that anywhere from one-third to three-quarters of people classified as obese are metabolically healthy. They show no signs of elevated blood pressure, insulin resistance or high cholesterol. Meanwhile, about a quarter of non-overweight people are what epidemiologists call “the lean unhealthy.” A 2016 study that followed participants for an average of 19 years found that unfit skinny people were twice as likely to get diabetes as fit fat people. Habits, no matter your size, are what really matter. Dozens of indicators, from vegetable consumption to regular exercise to grip strength, provide a better snapshot of someone’s health than looking at them from across a room.
According to an article in The Nutrition Journal by Dr. Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor, "Most epidemiological studies find that people who are overweight or moderately obese live at least as long as normal weight people, and often longer."
So, you can be under or normal weight, but that's doesn't make necessarly much more healthy than a overweight people. You can't say that a person is not "healthy" by judging on their physical appearance.
Some feminist points of view
Now, aks yourselves why so many cisgender etherosexual men are so upset from seeing plus size models in media? Do they really care about stranger's women heath?
NOPE!
Oh. Maybe is because they are the ones who lose something in seeing women considered not attractive for their physical appearance being accepted and admired?
YES.
Female beauty standard in media are designed for heterosexual male consumption.
As women gain economic and political power, their beauty should matter less.
Feminist scholars have contended that cultural norms and expectations encourage girls and women to be attentive to and psychologically invested in their physical appearance, which can undermine their well-being and contribute to eating dysregulation, depression, and other psychological difficulties (Cash, Ancis, & Strachan, 1997). Mary Wollstonecraft (1792), who is considered to be the founder of feminism, asserted that women's preoccupation with appearance was due to impoverished education, domestic subjugation, and vain pursuits toward which women were directed by their culture. The feminist perspective reaffirms the declaration that a woman's self-worth, ability, and livelihood are not centred on her physical appearance.
Wayne Dyer (1976/1995) elaborated on this: “many women have accepted the cultural dispatches and behave in ways that they are supposed to when it comes to their bodies. Shave your legs and underarms, deodorize yourself everywhere, perfume your body with foreign odours, sterilize your mouth, make up your eyes, lips, cheeks, pad your bra, spray your genitals with the appropriate bouquet, and falsify your fingernails. The implication is that there is something unpleasant about the natural you, the essentially human you, and only by becoming artificial can you become attractive.”
Peterson et al. (2008) posit that feelings of powerlessness may lead a woman to rely on external evaluations of her body as well as to control her eating behaviours. In contrast, feelings of empowerment may decrease the likelihood that a woman will internalize society's messages regarding attractiveness and hence develop schemas that highlight the importance of appearance. Overall, what is suggested is that feeling empowered in one's life may translate to reduced self-objectification and, in turn, to a decrease in negative evaluations of body image.
As this gross guy said:
“Those women aren't thin they look healthy, your problem with them is that their not grossly obese, I've got news for you, most men don't find grossly obese women attractive. Women decide what they want to look like and that happens to be appealing to men, the media has nothing to do with it, women have been beautifying themselves in order to attract men for millennia.”
Tumblr media
Young-Eisendrath (1999) elaborates on the psychological damage done by this: “the belief that we must be thin in order to be successful results in feelings of insecurity about ourselves and our abilities. Obsessive control of the female body leads not to power but to shame, self-consciousness, confusion, illness, even death by eating disorders. Longing to be reassured of our worth and validity, we submit to humiliating advice from experts who tell us what and when to eat, and how to exercise, as if we were children.”
In summary, the obsession with physical appearance often distorts reality, making individuals vulnerable to a host of psychological difficulties, including depression and anxiety, and even abuse (Hooks, 1995). Seeking the ideal body type, which is thinner genetically than 95% of women, is also harmful, as the anxiety it creates about weight is focused upon unnatural thinness rather than health (Williams, 1998).
Body positivity protects women from negative feelings about their bodies: women are encouraged to refute the message of the importance of thinness and develop more empowering self-definitions based on other attributes such as their intelligence or creativity. Feminist ideology thus emphasizes that a woman's self-worth should not be determined by her physical appearance.
This male obsession about our weight, saying that we are not "healthy", is just another way to cotrol our bodies, girls!
Lisa Turner, a food writer and nutrition consultant, summed it up best: “Losing weight is not your life's work, and counting calories is not the call of your soul. You surely are destined for something much greater, much bigger, than shedding 20 pounds or tallying calories. What would happen if, instead of worrying about what you had for breakfast, you focused instead on becoming exquisitely comfortable with who you are as a person?”
Some final conclusions
So telling to every people "you are fat, lazy, ugly and need to exercise for your own health" is not only harmful but not even ever correct for all the reason above.
The person you are insulting online could be “overweight” because has a condition, is highly depressed for past suffering experience (I know girls with past of sexual abuse who used to eat to find comfort for a pain that her cannot express in other ways). Or maybe not. To make it easier for you to understand, you must stop to judge people we don't know on their physical appearance, body shape or weight and we must try to be polite, so you will not get yourselves into embarrassing situations saying stupid things like "oh, sorry... I didn't know you had this thing...", after giving unrequested health suggestion to strangers or insulting them?
Have you ever consider how harm can do on others your “caring about strangers” health? What YOU are doing is causing eating disorders and low self-esteem on others. Body positivity helps to accept ourselves and not to spend our time into stupid considerations about our bodies.
THAT'S WHY WE NEED BODY POSITIVITY!
Tumblr media
A little list to summarize:
Don't give unrequested health suggestion: they don't ask and you are not their doctor;
Every person need to be accepted and respected as they are;
Obesity bias adversely affects a person’s likelihood to get help;
Your body works better when you thinking happy thoughts about yourself;
Negative body image DOES promote obesity. And anorexia. And a lot of other bad stuff.

Five tips for weight loss
Looking handsome and gorgeous is not only an attractive looking aspect but also the healthy aspect to ourselves. Here we will discuss
five tips for weight loss
which should be considered during any weight loss program you are following.
Everybody needs fast and unhealthy weight loss, which is one of the most widespread obsessions in our culture today. On a daily basis, we’re bombarded with unrealistic body messages in the media, we’re part of social conversations and judgments focused on physical appearance, plus we put pressure on ourselves to be a size “perfect” every time we see ourselves in the mirror.
Generally, it has been admitted that overweight can be controlled through dieting and people practiced the weight loss program by themselves under this scenario. If you start sweating when you think about how you’ll look at an upcoming high school reunion, wedding, holiday party, or beach vacation. The pressure we put on ourselves to drop pounds fast is not only bad for our hearts and minds, it also takes a toll on our bodies. Frankly, the lose-weight-quick promises on books and products are ridiculous and dangerous.
Tumblr media
Let’s get one thing straight before moving on: You are handsome and gorgeous, valuable, and amazing just the way you are. What I’m about to share is for those of you who want to lose weight in a healthy, balanced, and realistic way. If you focus on your overall health management and believe that it will take some time to lose your weight up to the desired level, then the weight loss procedure will be effective.
That said, the average weight loss was about 6 pounds over the course of those three weeks. SIX! That may not sound like a lot to you, but keep in mind that these pounds are far more likely to stay off. And, that’s because Crazy Sexy You includes healthy whole grains, plant-based protein, fruits and veggies, lots of water, proper rest, meditation, and simple exercise.
Now, some people lost significantly more than the average, but that often depended on how much the person had to lose and generally settled into the range I’m describing. The point is, if we want to get healthy, we need to do it in a sustainable way that works for our bodies and lives.
There are some key points for any program participants and those who continued to follow the principles of the plan are still losing weight in a healthy way. No deprivation, harsh inner critics, yo-yo dieting or obsessive weight checks. Just good food, self-care, and movement.
Important five tips for weight loss you should keep in mind.
Target and practice for no more than 1-2 pounds of weight loss per week
Again, I know it might sound like a snail’s pace, especially if you have 50 or 60 pounds you want to lose, but shedding 1-2 pounds per week is going to get you to your goal and help you stay there. One pound is equivalent to 3500 calories. So if you lose 1 pound in a week, that means you’ve eaten 3500 fewer calories that week or burned an extra 3500 calories (or a combo of the two). Here’s a fun way to think about it: If you were to hold a pound of fat in your hand, it’s about the size of small butternut squash. Oh, my gourd! At that rate, you will have lost 25 squash in six months. Bravo!
Change your mindset for weight loss
Slow it down and be gentle with yourself. Take the pressure off and open your mind. Let go of the all-or-nothing beliefs, fads, and myths you’ve picked up along the way, especially when it comes to carbs. Consumption of unhealthy mischievous foods can be the reason for the failure of weight loss activity. If you’re feeling caught up in the stress, then you need a free pass to forgive yourself! Focus on all the other areas of your life that you’re successful in.
Instead of striving to just drop a certain amount of pounds, shift your mindset to improving your overall wellbeing with healthy foods, exercise you like, and self-care. When you do, the weight loss will inevitably follow.
Scale your weight only in a week
To be honest, this is the best of five tips for weight loss, I stopped weighing myself long ago. But if you’re curious (and hopefully not obsessed) here are some things to keep in mind. Your weight can fluctuate 3-4 pounds from day to day due to sodium intake, water loss, dehydration, and even hormone levels. If you’re stepping on the scale each morning, you may feel on top of the world one day, only to find yourself frustrated the next. Avoid this roller coaster by picking one morning a week to weigh yourself, and do it before you eat or drink anything. These numbers will be much more reliable. There’s a caveat, though. Don’t panic if you’ve been eating a veggie-loaded healthy diet, guzzling H2O, and exercising regularly and your weight is going up. You’re likely building muscle. Just keep up the great work and read tip #4. In time, the number on your scale will shift.
Avoiding the scale by and large, particularly in the first place is helpful. Rather, hold up until your garments begin fitting all the more freely. Meanwhile, simply center around connecting with your body's yearning and fulfilled prompts, just as your vitality level. Since you realize that eating well plant-fueled nourishments, skirting the garbage and liquor, organizing rest, and practicing more will get you to your objective, it's useful to make propensities that will bolster economical weight loss and wellbeing first. The scale can come later when you realize you're moving the correct way and simply need a persuasive lift.
Think about taking your body estimations and the following muscle to fat ratio week by week
As we just talked about, it can take half a month for the scale to reflect by and large weight loss, particularly in case you're practicing and eating a fair, non-craze diet. Once more, this regularly implies you're building muscle. In this way, your fat cells are diminishing in size while your muscle cells are developing and getting progressively thick. On the off chance that you've taken your "previously" hip, thigh, midsection and arm estimations, just as your muscle to fat ratio, you'll likely observe every one of those numbers drop on a week by week premise. This tells you that you're progressing nicely at a solid pace. Furthermore, seeing improvement through this viewpoint supports your certainty and responsibility. Crash diets and trends abstain from food ordinarily bring about quick weight loss, yet you're losing muscle, not fat. Thus, you might be getting more slender, yet your body is less conditioned. That is not one of your objectives!
Be careful with the things that can obstruct weight loss achievement
The last five tips of weight loss are stress, Stress is likely the greatest square to weight loss, and being worried about your weight can truly hinder your advancement. In case you're feeling along these lines, think about utilizing some loosening up basic oils, routinely getting a decent night's rest, and ruminating every day. Practices like these will help quiet your nerves and advance adjusted and long haul weight loss. What's more, stress can frequently be the consequence of the weight we place on ourselves. Here and there when we quit attempting, things happen normally—even weight loss. Make a guarantee to yourself that for 3 weeks you're just going to concentrate on sound nourishments, development, and getting rest. Without undesirable desires, you'll feel much improved, stress less, embrace more beneficial propensities, and spotlight on your successes, rather than a number.
Moderate digestion can likewise make weight loss all the more a battle. Look at my digestion boosting tips here for approaches to enable your digestion to work in support of yourself. The vast majority of them are simple things you can consolidate into your regular day to day existence. Calorie cycling—eating a greater number of calories on certain days than others—does the stunt for certain individuals. What's more, it very well may be consolidated into your life in a solid manner (remember that it is not advancing eating an enormous cheddar pizza one day and just rice cakes the following).
Planning and execution should be perfect
For instance, you can plan to appreciate an extraordinary solid treat each other day. Or on the other hand, since you realize that the ends of the week will likely incorporate more calories, you settle on more astute supper decisions Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In the event that you follow these rules, cycling calories can fire up your digestion and give you the weight-loss edge you need in a feeding and adjusted way.
On the off chance that you feel mooched out by adopting a moderate strategy to weight loss, contemplate this. Fast weight loss is, in all honesty, a weight-loss executioner. Losing more than 3 or 4 pounds seven days is OK for up to 14 days on the off chance that you have a lot of weight to lose, yet keeping up this pace not just brings down your digestion altogether and for all time, it likewise brings down your supplement savings. This regularly prompts vitality accidents and yearnings, however, it can likewise imply that your weight will rush to return and increasingly hard to lose next time.
Flowing through these five tips for weight loss will support the perspective for your goal of reducing weight. Making a perceptive and all around paced way to deal with weight loss is the initial phase in building up a sound connection with your body. Since you have the structure squares, I trust you'll move your regard for giving yourself more love and giving your body more opportunity to accomplish its objectives.

I finished Persona 5 Royal, after 135 hours. My feelings on the new content are mostly very positive, though do I have a few issues with it. Here's a suuuuuper long write-up first about Persona 5 and then about Royal. This is gonna have full spoilers for both versions of the game, so keep that in mind if spoilers for either game bother you. Persona 5 is my favorite game of all time for several reasons. The first is how masterfully it's written. Not necessarily line-to-line (and certainly not in the English localization, which could've used a few more weeks of edits to make the sentences sound more natural), but in its structure, thematic unity, and use of allusions to achieve that unity. The first two-thirds of the game are presented through a complex and well-orchestrated frame device that's honestly just a treat to experience. It presents the player with a glance at each upcoming story beat without the context to understand it, then lets them piece together the context as they go, giving the whole game a sense of mystery even as the player inhabits the characters at the center of the mystery. It also uses concepts from Jungian psychology to tell its story, most notably character archetypes, which means players can use knowledge of the archetypes to better understand aspects of the characters and their stories. It's beautiful, and it means that I often fall down rabbit-holes researching the allusions made and finding the connections they have to the story. The other reason Persona 5 is my favorite game is much more personal, but it actually played a major role in my radicalization (or if you're uncomfortable with such terminology, political reawakening). The game released in early April of 2017, only a few months after Trump took office, and partway through my first semester back at school after my five year...break. The game is about fighting back against societal injustice. It starts out small, with a high school teacher who abuses his students, but moves up to people with increasingly greater power exploiting increasingly larger swaths of the population: a famous artist using his clout to steal his students' livelihoods, a mafia boss stealing money from the people of his neighborhood, a CEO overworking and underpaying his employees while jockeying for a political position, a government prosecutor who fabricates evidence to maintain her perfect record, and finally a member of the Diet running for Prime Minister who uses populist rhetoric but only cares about gaining personal power. As in previous games, each protagonist gains their powers by awakening to their Persona (essentially publicly performing as their true, unfiltered selves), but in this game, the process is physically painful, bordering on body horror. The act of tearing off the masks so tightly glued to the characters' faces is cast in a similar light to putting on the glasses in "They Live:" doing so is painful and frightening, but allows each character to see the world for what it is, without the filter of the justifying ideological framework. In the last dungeon of the game, the characters invade the physical manifestation of the justifying framework, which takes the form of a prison in which the prisoners beg to be left inside, as the idea of freedom from the prison terrifies them. A vein running from each of their cells sucks out their life force, vampirically, and directs that life force into the manifestation of the concept of hierarchical structures itself, portrayed as the holy grail - a reference to Marx's Capital. This holy grail - which to Marx was wealth - is revealed to be a false god created by the masses because they wanted a god. However, it grew so powerful that now the masses serve it, rather than the other way around. It created its own artificial collective unconscious, barring its subjects from participating in a true collective unconscious free of its influence. At the very beginning of the game, a voice directly tells the player they may only play Persona after agreeing that the events of the game are entirely fictional, and any similarities to the real world are entirely coincidental. The game will not start until the player indicates that they agree to those terms. That voice is revealed to be the holy grail itself, implying that to refuse to compare fictional works to the real world or "get political" about these stories is to submit yourself to the justifying ideology. That's some powerful stuff, and grounding it in real-life examples of exploitation while following characters suffering from that exploitation made it hard to ignore, especially in the wake of the 2015-2016 rise of Fascism and at a time when I was back to studying literary analysis. The game seems specifically crafted to induce a radicalization in its players. It has a scene in which the characters attain class consciousness. For a chunk of the story, the characters try to fight against manufactured consent, as they are framed by the media and authority figures as dangerous villains just for taking a nonviolent stand against rapists, billionaires killing their employees, and corrupt officials. The citizenry believes it almost unquestioningly. The protagonists are often visibly enraged at the exploitation they see - much of which is based on specific real-world events - and the internal logic of the story suggests that this rage is the only moral response. Every aspect of the game bolsters these themes of hierarchy, exploitation, and rebellion, giving the game a thematic unity unlike any I've ever seen before. Even the smallest NPCs have full storylines running in the background that highlight the ways even these nameless characters are exploited, and the ways they've been socialized to accept this exploitation. Every book, every song lyric, every reference to a food item, every damn fictional allusion in a game ABOUT FICTIONAL ALLUSIONS ties back in some way to that larger theming. The thematic unity of this game sings, and playing it was unlike anything I'd experienced before. This game, for me, defined Leftism. I didn't put down the controller a full-blown Communist, but it gave me the tools I needed to ask the necessary questions to discard Liberalism. I probably would have gotten there eventually, and the game probably wouldn't have had quite as powerful an effect if I weren't a literary/media analysis kind of guy living in the time I was in, but even now, three years later, the game reads to me like a damn revolutionary text. So I was honestly terrified of Persona 5: The Royal, which came out at the beginning of this month. It's a rerelease of the game with added story content, including a new dungeon, a new party member, the return of a deceased party member, and a new ending. That's a lot to add onto a really fun game with unprecedented thematic unity that also helped me to redefine myself and my positions on...literally everything. If they messed with this unity for the sake of adding unnecessary content, it would heavily alter the game's effect, and my own personal understanding of the game, forever. That's not to say that the game couldn't be improved. The localization was kinda shoddy, it occasionally drifts into male gaze shit (glaringly so in the 2D animated cutscenes, which makes me wonder if the animation studio had different ideas about the project than the devs did), there are two scenes which are virulently homophobic, and the devs had originally planned for another party member who they had to scrap for time. The two homophobic scenes especially have made it difficult to recommend the game, as I've always had to add the caveat of "...but it completely undermines its own central thesis twice for cheap laughs and it's disgusting." I wasn't sure, however, that a rerelease would fix any of these issues, and I was really worried that adding ~25 hours of gameplay after the dungeon about the justifying ideology and the holy grail would undermine too much of what made the game so revolutionary to me. There is no larger threat to humanity than the ideological framework justifying capitalism, so I worried that moving away from that for the length of a whole-ass Kingdom Hearts game would make the game less effective. From a storytelling perspective, the party member they advertised they would bring back to life is an unambiguous villain, and I worried that bringing him back would both undermine the sacrifice from his death scene and rehabilitate the character, neither of which I wanted. The new party member was not the character they had planned for and cut, and her story as it was advertised did not involve her being exploited by people in power in any way. Rather, she's a star athlete and honors student whose success was attributed to her sense of personal responsibility, which runs pretty counter to the game's themes. I also worried that adding a new dungeon worth of gameplay would mean getting rid of the part at the end of the game where the protagonist willingly turns himself in and spends several months imprisoned, so that he can testify against one of the villains of the game. The thought of losing that bittersweet ending definitely didn't sit right with me. As I said at the beginning, my feelings on the new content are mostly positive. Before getting into pure spoiler territory, I'll say there's no going back to the original now that this version exists. They redesigned every dungeon and boss fight, retooled the battle system, added a LOT more voice acting to scenes where there hadn't been any, added a ton of new scenes further fleshing out characters and the setting, retranslated the worse lines from the localization (it's still not perfect but it's much improved), added new gameplay mechanics and personas, added a bunch of great new music, expanded on Tokyo, and FIXED THE FUCK OUT OF THE HOMOPHOBIC SCENES. I now actually really like the two nameless characters who were in the original just straight up predators, as they've been rewritten into overenthusiastic drag queens who get excited at the thought of introducing nervous kids interested in drag to the scene. They improved on dungeon crawling, too: the newly added grapple hook mechanic introduces a fun verticality to the dungeon designs, stealth is more challenging and rewarding, and each dungeon has new optional collectibles. They reimagined the procedurally generated dungeon you explore over the course of the game, too, giving it more room types, more music, a currency unique to the dungeon, a merchant, and ways to level up money, experience, and item rewards from the enemies in the dungeon. As for the new story content, the extra 25 hours of gameplay is not...counter to the themes of the game. Instead, it's set up as a story about Revolution vs. Reform. The question it poses to the people of its now-too-content Tokyo is "would you join the Phantom Thieves?" which translates more to something on the order of "if these exploitative systems still existed, but didn't really hurt you or anyone you know, would you still care enough to fight against them?" The new villain co-opts the place formerly held by the Holy Grail and uses it to rewrite reality to one in which everything is basically the same, but almost everyone in the city has everything they want (with the notable and noticeable exceptions of homeless people and service workers). The central conflict, especially to the characters who have regained lost loved ones, is whether they should still fight for a better world if most people are fairly happy. Tokyo never ends up agreeing that they would join the Phantom Thieves, but the crew still end up determining that they must restore the real world, because a world in which people are still critical of the justifying ideology has a path to a better world, while one in which people are uncritical will never find that path. It's a complex and interesting take from the beginning, and even moreso when the game uses imagery from the mythologies of the garden of Eden and Prometheus. The other dungeons correspond to deadly sins, but this one instead corresponds to "sorrow." The villain is so afraid of his own grief and the grief of others that he refuses to allow anyone to take risks, even if success would improve the world. The three new confidant arcs are well thought-out and engaging, too, especially the arc with the villainous party member, whose actor absolutely chews the scenery in this game. In the new story, he's so angry about being forced into a reality on someone else's terms that he fights tooth and nail to return to the old reality, where he was at least able to die on his own terms. It's...not as emotional as the game wants it to be, but it's a really fun time. Each party member also gets a mini arc in which they come to terms with what they would lose by returning to the old reality, and acknowledges how much personal growth they would lose by staying. These culminate a new ending in which each party member finds a way to work to regain some of what they had lost by restoring reality, going their separate ways in the process. The new content has a bit of a Persona 4 vibe, in that it's much more personal and contemplative, and the characters find strength by maturing and uncovering avenues to personal growth. As Atlus has pretty consistently existed both in the shadow of Persona 4's popularity and with the pressing need to make up for Persona 4's failings, it's not a bad angle. I do have some minor issues with the new story. It still means that there is no downtime after the original final boss, so newcomers won't really have much opportunity to consider the implications of that dungeon and boss before being thrust into another conflict. Its ending is not quite as clear-cut as the original ending, either. The protagonist still turns himself in, but the story basically...switches back to that reality a week before his release, meaning it's not nearly as much of a sacrifice and it's a decision this version of the protagonist technically didn't make for himself. The situation is probably also clearer to people who've played the original game than to newcomers. The old ending is kind of "required reading" for fans; it's still the canon ending for Scramble where the new one is not, and the new one is more impactful to players who've already experienced the original ending. This creates a major predicament when recommending this game to new players. Do I tell them to purposely not fulfil the requirements to get the new ending, then replay a 130+ hour game a second time? Should they keep a save at around the 85 hour mark, so they can reload their save and retread the 20 or so hours of game they've already experienced to get to the new stuff? There's no good answer, which is irritating. At least the original ending is included in this version, so those are options, but it's frustrating that I can't just recommend one or the other without caveats that are also huge time sinks. I dunno how to end this, and it's much longer than it probably should be, so I'll say that this game is extremely important to me, and I'm impressed that Royal is not less important to me. I sure hope we get a release date for the worldwide release of Scramble soon.
