Upon reflecting this past year, I’m reminded of one area as a fandom citizen that i am lacking - reading fic. And so was born an idea to canvas my fandom family and friends to share with me a fic they've written, art they've created, a podfic they've recorded in 2023 of which they are most proud.

This two part 'rec yourself' list is the result.

Part One features Drarry creations (heavily featured since that's my OTP). Part Two (here) includes a kick-ass mix of various HP ships and ships from other fandoms, including Carry On, Check Please!, Good Omens, Teen Wolf, and Stranger Things. Also, and most importantly, each entry presents a smol blurb from the creator about why they chose their particular piece as their 2023 favorite.

For ease in reading, I've also placed all submitted works posted to AO3 into a filterable bookmark collection, Rec Yourself 2023. Be aware that there's a range of ratings and archive/creator tags, so please, take appropriate responsibility for your personal consumption. And please also be sure to shower the creators with kudos and lovely comments.

✩ @pato-roldnart ✩ Quiet as a mouse HP | Viktor Krum x Ron Weasely | ART | G rating | Unleashed!Fest 2023 I'm quite proud of this one, I don't know how I made it, I had never drawn them before! My mind went full "oh yeah ronvik " Also, I like the idea of them bonding over their pets and Ron seeing that Viktor cares about something else that is not Quidditch.

✩ @tontonguetonks ✩ Coffee and a Croissant HP Next Gen | Scorpius x Albus | 903 FIC | G rating There are parts of myself and my lived experience in every story and character I write—how I socialize, how I take my coffee… I can’t help it. In *Coffee and a Croissant*, I put a lot of myself in my ace and autistic Albus. He is very dear to me in this story, and in my Fizzy Lifting Drinks drabble. The fic is just a toe-dip in the Soulmate waters where Albus grapples with what to do if he is someone’s Soulmate, but they’re not his. Parts 2 and 3 are in the works, but there is no timeline on either of them. Maybe in 2024?

✩ @crazybutgood ✩ I Bloom Pink For You HP | Narcissa Malfoy x Pansy Parkinson | 993 FIC + ORIGAMI COMIC | M rating | HP Bodice Ripper Fest 2023 This whole idea came about because I got so excited to fold a corset for hp bodice ripper fest, realised I couldn't just submit that one thing, and started brainstorming more loose ideas. It all clicked together when I was inspired by a fic by @schmem14, whose writing I adore. I was so grateful and even more excited when Em gave permission to make this. From there started the self-indulgent process of folding fancy things with fancier papers for this origami comic, and I couldn't have done it without Em and my lovely support team.

✩ @seekercass ✩ Something Cosmic HP | Cedric x Draco x Harry | 1.7k FIC | M rating | Polyship Week 2022 A self-rec that I am still extremely proud of is a short fic written for Polyshipping Week 2022 called Something Cosmic. It's a small coda to Something Good to Always Keep, another fic that I wrote for Quidditch Fest 2021 that I cherish very much. Even though writing is still hard for me these days, I often think about this 'verse and what life is like for Harry, Draco and Cedric after they graduated from Oxford. These three and slice of life bring me such joy. I hope to write more of them.

✩ @roseharpermaxwell ✩ Sounds Worth It HP | Hermione x Draco | 5k FIC | T rating | D/Hr Advent 2023 Being nominated for d/hr advent was a sweet surprise. It gave me a good excuse to remember how to write and the nudge I needed to create something this year.

✩ @basicallyahedgehog ✩ (They) Keep Me Warm HP | Hermione x Harry x Ron | 5.8k FIC | E rating | HP Trans Fest 2023 This was my transfest fic - I wrote it as a love letter to all my trans and Enby friends and as a way of processing some of my own feelings. It’s my first (and so far only) foray into poly golden trio and I loved playing with their dynamics with that added layer to their relationship.

✩ @lumosatnight ✩ For I Have Found Salvation HP | Harry x Severus | 7.1k FIC | E rating | Snarry AUctoberfest 2023 Although this is a smut fic at its core, I tried really hard to make the pacing flow, bringing in background characters, and creating memorable imagery. I am very proud of how it turned out. However, this is probably my favorite fic from 2023 simply for the fact that I had the most fun writing it!

✩ @sugareey-makes-stuff ✩ Feel You Breathing Teen Wolf | Derek Hale x Stiles Stilinski | 8.4k TEXTING FIC | E rating | 2023 Year of the OTP This is my fav 2023 piece because I learned how to create a custom text message AO3 skin, stylize things for plain text reading, and I wrote a whole story that had some plot that was told through text messages. Also, I did not know I could achieve so much spiciness and throw in so many bad pick-up lines through this medium, but hey, the more you know! XD

✩ @schmem14 ✩ Mastermind HP | Harry x Ron; Draco x Harry; Ron x Draco | 10.7k FIC | E rating | Dronarry Fest 2023 This is one of the few times a story just flew out of me. Possessive stalker Draco sets out to win over Ron in this creepy thriller, but there’s a catch: Ron is already in love with Draco’s boyfriend, Harry.

✩ @drwhoisginnyholmes & @fledglinger ✩ Not Bad, For A 6000 Year Old Classic! Good Omens | Aziraphale x Crowley | 11.8k FIC + ART | E rating | DIWS Reverse! Reverse! Mini Bang

✩ @sniperjade ✩ The Sounds of Us HP Marauders | Regulus x Remus | 20.4k FIC | M rating | Remus Lupin Fest 2023; HPFC Spring Fling 2023 I've been thinking about this for a couple of days and whilst I would really love to say it was the drarry I wrote for this fest last year my favourite would have to be this moonseeker I wrote for Remus Lupin Fest last year. It's my favourite because I lived this fic. It became the entirety of my personality for a whole month because I desperately needed to get to the chapter where Regulus was riding on Padfoots back, through the forbidden forest, with only the light of the full moon to guide them, just to try and help Remus. It's also just because it's very musical and I'm very musical so that makes me love it all the more.

✩ @ghaniblue ✩ Sleeping With Ghosts HP | Regulus x Draco x Harry | 21.9k FIC | M rating | Harry Potter Rare Pair Fest IV I posted a Regulus/Harry/Draco fic last month that I'm very fond of. I started writing it more than 1 1/2 years ago, before I ever read a single Regulus fic. It's triad fic, and I'm pretty proud of the way the individual relationships develop. That was important to me, and I think I succeeded. Posting the first fic on ao3 with this triad tag doesn't hurt either.

✩ @celilasart & @wolfspurr ✩ Shifted Teen Wolf | Derek Hale x Stiles Stilinski | 25k FIC + ART | T rating | Sterek Reverse Bang This work was created for sterek reverse bang, a collaboration fest where the artists create first and the writers write second. wolfspurr and I just clicked when we talked about my art and the things that it inspired in their writer brain ;D the result is just an amazingly sweet and wholesome fic, that is still set in the teenwolf universe as we know it. but unlike many other fics which are full of violence and danger, this one starts with a bang and then it is a beautifully woven story of two people who just complete each other. also... the working title for my art was: tiny fox & sour wolf.

✩ @orange-peony ✩ At the speed of light Carry On | Basilton Pitch x Simon Snow | 26.3k FIC | E rating I picked [this fic] because I had a lot of fun writing it! It started off as a drabble and ended up 26k because I just had a blast writing it and the fandom support was so lovely. Last but not least, Pato made an absolutely stunning art piece for this fic, and it was the best present ever.

✩ @wynnyfryd ✩ i don’t know, you figure it out Stranger Things | Steve Harrington x Eddie Munson | 35.4k WIP FIC | E rating bragging about yourself is difficult, but i’ll just say it’s my favorite because i’m proud of myself for sticking to one project for this long, i love all the artwork the fic has inspired, and i just think the line “the river styx must taste like pennies” fucks severely lmao.

✩ @decaflondonfog ✩ growing pains Check Please! | Eric Bittle x Kent Parson | 50k FIC | T rating i am not usually a long fic gal, which i think is in part lack of patience, but also how attached i get to a universe if i’m working on it for a longer period of time. i finished writing this back in june but this fic felt very “me” in many ways and i think about them so often still so it’s definitely my 2023 creation i’m proudest of!

Got curious about fandom trends so pulled some data from AO3.

Like a good scientist, going to start with Limitations:

Polyships not included. Ships list is also by no means exhaustive.

Not filtered for OTP:true so same fic may feature multiple ships that may not be the endgame

Also doesn't reflect which ship is centered in the fic as opposed to mentions

Obviously deleted fics won't turn up in the count, but it would be interesting to know real historical numbers for these fandoms

Quite a few fics have been backdated, given AO3 was only launched in 2009 and several fics are marked pre-2009. It's possible other fics have also been backdated but I think the numbers are small enough to be non significant.

I did not filter out between MCU and Marvel comics for the ships

(Addit for something new I noticed) Fics that have been updated on 2023 will disappear from earlier numbers i.e. if a fic was started in 2022 but is still being published in 2023, it will not show up in 2022 numbers.

As always, keep in mind AO3 has relatively higher slash ships than other fanfic sites

AO3 doesn't necessarily reflect the size of the fandom, only how many people write for the fandom on AO3 (duh). Other activity - discussions, meta, fanart etc doesn't always correlate to fic production.

RIGHT axis scale applies to the MCU area only - this is the overall number of fics being written for the MCU over the years.

Observations:

Stucky took a while to catch attention. In 2011 when CATFA came out, there was only 61 fics, but that jumped to ~400 and ~600 for the following 2 years.

Avengers (2012) made Stony into one of the first juggernaut ships of the MCU with around 3000 fics that year.

2014 CATWS vaulted Stucky into the stratosphere, going from less than 600 fics in 2013 to just shy of 6000 in 2014. SamBucky and SteveSam both started then, but SteveSam was the bigger ship at the time (500 vs 150 fics)

2016 CACW gave a boost to both Stucky and Stony, as well as a boost to SamBucky.

Curiously, SteveSam did not receive the same boost from the movie, and its numbers dropped in following years and stayed around 300

AC, starting in 2015, gave the first real boost to Steggy. Prior to this its numbers stayed around 200, with a small uptick in 2014 with CATWS to 400.

Clearly, lots of people were happy/unhappy/had things to say about EG, because that was when Stucky, Steggy and Stony all peaked, while SamBucky also had a big boost. This peak is also mirrored in the overall number of MCU fics produced

Big spike for SamBucky as expected from TFATWS in 2021, nearly breaking 5000 and overtaking Stony for the year

2021 was also the peak for overall number of MCU fics per year, which I wonder if it's partially due to Covid lockdown. Other franchises released that year were Loki, Black Widow, Shangchi, Eternals and Spiderman.

SteveNat and BuckyNat have stayed fairly constant ships (of around 500 fics/year) with a small boost from each movie. Staron has remained a small with around 100 fics a year.

Day 5: vulnerability Rating: M (overall) Chararcters: Drift, Ratchet, Rodimus, Thunderclash Tags: Minimal Editing, Fluff and Humor, Old Married Couple, Polyamory, Old Loves Rekindled, Drunken Shenanigans, Making Out, Light Petting Fic Summary: Drift and Ratchet are living their soft and cozy lives together way out in the quiet serenity of rural lands that sit on the edge of the wild. They're good with this, couldn't ask for more. Then more comes anyway by way of the past, as it always does.

Note: Just a heads up! This week is focused on Dratchet emotionally, but it is working toward a polycule! (Which will be explored in April during Polyship Week.)

Ratchet quirked an orbital ridge upward, his smirk stretching into a heated grin that never failed to do things to Drift that left him wet behind the panels. If the wandering interest of Rodimus' ever-curious hands around his hips, thumbs pressing between the plating where his thighs joined to the more sensitive pelvic protoform, were any indication, Rodimus was just as aware of it. When Ratchet slid his hand in to rest over one of Rodimus', Drift narrowed his optics and gave Ratchet a suspicious look.

"Ratty, what are you doing?" he asked. As Ratchet's hand shifted into a smooth curl along the heated surface of Drift's modesty panels, Drift squirmed and felt his cooling fans click on. He shot another glance toward Thunderclash, the only one of the group without prior knowledge of the sound. The big mech hadn't moved from his spot on the other end of the bench he shared with Rodimus, but tendrils of his field were stretching out, curious and full of carefully banked carnality. A kiss pressed to the corner of his mouth dragged his dizzy attention back to Ratchet. "Ratty?"

"I want you to watch this," Ratchet murmured, a low and lusty growl in his tone. "If it's not what you want, you stop me and you and I take this to a separate room. Thunders and the hotshot can figure themselves out in that case."

That gave Drift only the vaguest notion of what his conjunx had planned. Before he could raise any questions, though, Ratchet leaned in between Drift and Rodimus. The hand not rubbing soft circles between Drift's thighs lifted to catch Rodimus' chin and pulled the other speedster's face toward Ratchet's. And then it was Drift's turn to have a moment of "holy slag."

He wasn't quite sure how to take the way Rodimus so easily fell into allowing Ratchet to absolutely plunder his mouth in the way Drift was so very familiar with. The slow, thoughtful pillaging of Rodimus' mouth with a glossa as wonderfully skilled as Ratchet's medic's hands. Not with Thunderclash settled so very close by. His jaw snapping shut, Drift wobbled in his spot in Rodimus' lap as he whirled back around to give the big mech a look he knew pleaded for forgiveness of the act he wasn't even attempting to stop. Soft murmurs and wet sounds filling one audial, Drift found himself caught by the depth of the hunger emoted on those dashingly handsome features of Thunderclash's.

Then the universe tilted even more as Thunderclash shifted his crooked leg under himself and moved closer. Those crimson optics never slipped away from him, not until Thunderclash nuzzled against Rodimus' audial and murmured words that Drift couldn't make out even from his close vantage. Whatever he said had Rodimus pulling from the kiss with Ratchet and grinning. He leaned back against the bench as Ratchet and Thunderclash came together between them, hidden from Drift's view by the two bigger mechs. The look Ratchet gave Drift burned even hotter than the look from Thunderclash, sending a wobble through his spark with the obvious searching for permission reflected in his optics. In his drunken state, Drift discovered working his glossa through actual words more difficult than anticipated.

"Oh yeah," Rodimus said, his engine revving hard and fans spinning harder. He pushed his hips up against Drift and gripped his hips a little harder. He nudged his face between Ratchet and Thunderclash, leaning in to bump the tip of his nose against Drift's. "It's all on you, babe," Rodimus informed Drift, low purr in his voice. "Do we let them kiss while we watch or do you take Ratchet up on everyone finding their own room? I'm game for whatever as long as I get something tonight."

Drift tossed a glance first at Ratchet, then another toward Thunderclash. The look Thunderclash was giving Ratchet reminded him immediately of the look he'd seen come his own way from Rodimus. Still saw on Rodimus if he happened to catch his fellow speedster unawares. He returned his gaze to Ratchet, meeting those beloved blue optics as a hard flicker touched his spark. What he saw looking back at him was a questioning softness, silent asking for permission. He scratched his fingers against the extravagantly painted flames on Rodimus' chest. Then, he lifted his hand, pressed it to Rodimus' face, and shoved him out of the way. He ignored the noisy fuss that Rodimus wetly sputtered against his palm. Mouth curving upward to give a saucy flash of fang, Drift shot another look between his conjunx and his conjunx's best friend.

"Kiss him, Ratty," he instructed, warmth reigniting in bubbles that bounced around his internals and made him dizzier than just the engex alone could accomplish. It felt good and he was certainly in the mood for some more of that, whatever strange shape it seemed to be coming in. He stroked the fingers of his other hand over the curve of Ratchet's face, dragging them slowly forward along his jaw until they kept up his chin just the slightest bit. Ratchet's engine gave a hard roar as Drift leaned back a bit to give his conjunx room to pass between himself and Rodimus again, but not allowing it just yet.

"Drift…," Ratchet murmured in a tone that wasn't quite remonstrance. He quieted quickly enough when the sharp tip of one talon extended just enough to threaten a small hole in his neck cables.

Curling his fingers down one at a time so they acted as a form of countdown, Drift turned his gaze back to Thunderclash. With the last fingertip snagged against the block of Ratchet's chin, the partially extended talon likely the only thing holding Ratchet in place, Drift said, "None of that. Didn't you tell me it was my decision?"

Ratchet's hand cupped deeper between his thighs, his two central fingers tapping along the Drift's modesty panels in a way that vibrated sensation into the hidden sensors. Squirming under the assault, further ignoring Rodimus' fondling, Drift glared at Ratchet. "What's wrong, Drift?" Ratchet asked, smirking. "Thought you were the one making decisions here."

Catching Ratchet's chin in his hand again, Drift moved his other to catch hold of Thunderclash in the same fashion. He turned his glare at the amused Thunderclash, then gave them both a tight squeeze. He could feel the sparkle of engex behind his optics, the burble of it across his brain module, as he spoke. "I am. So, bearing that in mind, I think it's time the two of you stopped being smarmy assholes and started sucking face so I can watch."

"You're right, Ratch," Thunderclash said with a crooked grin, finally deciding to speak up. He tilted his helm just a bit, as far as Drift's grasp would let him, giving Drift a saucy onceover. "He does get feisty."

Turning on Ratchet with another glare, this one rather annoyed, Drift demanded, "You talk about me with him?"

"We talk about Rodimus, too, if it makes you feel better," Ratchet replied. His grin turned sly and he gave a little waggle of his orbital ridges. "You know, just the sort of thing best friends do with each other. You want to tell me you don't gossip with Rodimus?"

Drift glanced toward Rodimus without turning his helm and found his best friend struggling not to laugh. Those golden spoiler wings bumped and clattered in the little space they had crept against the back of the bench—the surest sign he was going to be no help. With a smiling sigh and a bubble of humor filling his chassis, Drift dropped his hands to wrap them around Rodimus' where they still rested at Drift's hips. He yipped as agile medic's fingers teased the manual release of his modesty panels and turned sour look on Ratchet. "Not fair, Ratty."

He quickly gave up the pretense of anger, though, when Ratchet nuzzled into the side of his neck. "So what's it gonna be, Drift?" A kiss was pressed to the corner of his jaw, leading to Drift tilting his helm to give him more room. "Love of my life…." The wet tip of Ratchet's glossa flicked through the hollow just below that spot and Drift bit his lip on a soft gasp. "Owner of my spark…."

Laughing, Drift pushed him away before catching both him and Thunderclash around the back of the neck. He looked from one to the other, glanced across at Rodimus and saw the agreement in those Matrix blue optics. "Why don't you shut the frag up and show me how you kiss your best friend, hm?"

Ratchet turned his helm and laid a kiss to the white armor along Drift's inner wrist. With his usual confident swagger and the cocky grin that did things to Drift's internals, he said, "Don't get your gears out of line, sweetspark. Let me show you how it's done."

AU Friday: Valicer In The Dark -- Character Playbooks

My Valicer In The Dark AU (where I put Victor, Alice, Smiler, and related characters into the setting of Duskwall from Blades In The Dark) also features in my upcoming Valicer PolyShip Week shenanigans, so I figured now was a good time to remind you of its existence and give you some more details on it -- specifically, a look at what I’ve come up with for the various “playbooks” (the BitD equivalent of a character sheet), both individually for Alice, Victor, and Smiler, and communally for their crew! Here is how my little gang is all statted out --

Alice:

Playbook Type: Cutter (the hard hitters and melee fighters)

Heritage: Akoros, born in Duskwall – daughter of the late Dean Arthur Liddell of Doskvol Academy (College of Immortal Studies)

Background: Labor – former dogsbody of the Houndsditch Home for Wayward Youth

Point Spread:

Insight: Hunt, 1 Study, Survey, Tinker

Prowess: Finesse, 1 Prowl, 2 Skirmish, 1 Wreck

Resolve: 1 Attune, 1 Command, Consort, Sway

Cutters automatically start with 2 Skirmish and 1 Command -- Alice is decently good in close-quarters combat (a combination of all the mental practice in Wonderland and genuinely having to scuffle with some overly-forward folks in Charhollow) and has a little experience in getting people to listen to her (we’ll say it’s from wrangling the kids in Houndsditch). She got four dots on top of that to assign in other places -- I gave her a bit of Study to reflect her background as the daughter of a respected college dean; a bit of Prowl because she’s learned the value of moving quickly, quietly, and skillfully; a bit of Wreck because she can really smash things up when given enough provocation; and a bit of Attune because I suspect Wonderland actually makes her a little more sensitive to the arcane forces within the city (her hallucinations sense things before she does).

Starting Special Ability: Not To Be Trifled With – can push herself to perform near-superhuman feats of physical force or take on up to six people without penalty (like fighting off a bunch of Bluecoats trying to wrongfully arrest her and her new friends for murder).

As for future special abilities, from the Cutter playbook I already have in mind Vigorous, which allows her to heal faster and better (since I already have her healing surprisingly well as a headcanon in general), and Bodyguard, which gives her +1 die to resist any consequences while protecting a teammate, and +1 effect to any rolls regarding gathering information about potential threats (Alice takes protecting those she cares about VERY SERIOUSLY). I’m also going to borrow one from the Lurk playbook (the sneaky-sneak ones), The Devil’s Footsteps, which would allow her to push herself to perform superhuman feats of athleticism or dart around in such a way as to get her enemies to attack each other (which would handily cover her quad-jump in Wonderland!).

Friend and Rival:

Friend: Nan Sharpe, the madam of the Mangled Mermaid brothel in Silkshore – practical, a bit hot-headed, and with a low opinion of most people, she encourages Alice to keep her head in the real world

Rival: Pris Witless, former nurse at Rutledge and current drunk in Charhollow – nasty, servile, and a slave to the bottle, she has extorted Alice for money in the past by threatening to spread rumors that Alice herself was responsible for her family’s death

Vice: Obligation – to her former Houndsditch charges in Charhollow, and to Nan Sharpe; Alice indulges by checking in on them and helping them out when she can.

Special items:

Fine hand weapon: One load – at the very start, this is a good-quality kitchen knife that Alice took to carrying around for protection; shortly after they form their crew and get his stuff back, Victor commissions a more exact replica of her Wonderland Vorpal Blade for her, which she cherishes dearly

Fine heavy weapon: Two load – I’m still figuring it out, but this HAS to be a Duskwall-appropriate version of her Hobby Horse from A:MR

Scary weapon or tool: One load – this should probably be a variant on the Jabberwock’s Eye Staff?

Manacles and chain: Zero load – Alice maybe steals these off one of the Bluecoats who tries to arrest her, Victor, and Smiler for the murder of Barkis? (Or I might change it out for the nice lockpicks the Lurk gets. Either one!)

Rage essence vial: Zero load – Ragebox/Hysteria mode in a bottle! Just stay out of her way

Spiritbane charm: Zero load – she probably had this from the start, as all smart citizens of Duskwall have one

Victor:

Playbook Type: Whisper (the ones most able to deal with the ghosts and arcane threats)

Heritage: Akoros, born in Duskwall – son of William Van Dort, owner of Van Dort Fish

Background: Trade/Noble – son of VERY RICH cannery owner from Nightmarket

Point Spread:

Insight: Hunt, 1 Study, Survey, 1 Tinker

Prowess: 2 Finesse, 1 Prowl, Skirmish, Wreck

Resolve: 2 Attune, Command, Consort, Sway

Whispers start with 2 Attune and 1 Study -- Victor is quite sensitive to the arcane and the ghostly thanks to his experience with Emily, and he’s a bookish sort. For his other four points, I gave him a bit of Tinker (to go with my headcanon that Victor does like to fool around with mechanisms and such from time to time); a bit of Prowl because he can be quite sneaky and slippery when he wants to be (he kept out of sight of Emily for a good while in the Land of the Dead in canon); and a good amount of Finesse because that seemed to be the action that went best with his canonical skills of being an accomplished pianist and artist (”dexterous manipulation” and all that).

Starting Special Ability: Ghost Mind – always aware of supernatural entities in his presence, +1d to gather information on the supernatural (Victor got this from being yanked into the ghost field by Emily and forced to stay there for an entire day and a bit; he finds it both helpful and worrying).

As for future special abilities, from the Whisper playbook I know I want Strange Methods, which gives him better results when inventing or crafting anything with arcane features and gives him a free special formula (I’m using this to cover him figuring out how to infuse insects, in particular moths, with electroplasm so as to create glowing versions that can help grow crops), and Warded, which allows him to expend the “special armor” box on his sheet to resist a supernatural consequence or help push himself when fighting against or using arcane forces (I’m picturing this as a special coat he makes with Elder Gutknecht, with all sorts of strange glyphs and symbols on it). And once again, I’m also tempted by something on the Lurk playbook, Ghost Veil, which would allow him to push himself to partially shift himself into the ghost field for a few moments, becoming shadowy and insubstantial (and able to increase the effect -- like become invisible, float through the air, and make it last longer -- if he takes more stress -- because come on, that’s just COOL, and does cover him being part of both the real world and the ghostly one well).

Friend and Rival:

Friend: Samuel “Bonejangles” Thatcher, an entertainer who also makes a living as a Whisper removing spirits from houses – showy, friendly, but with the ability to hold a grudge, he actually knew Emily in life, and when he learns Victor helped her get revenge on her killer (even at the cost of her ghostly “life”), he is only too happy to give Victor a hand with Whisper-related stuff

Rival: Nell and William Van Dort, Victor’s parents – conceited, determined, and less socially adept than they think they are, they are furious with Victor for “ruining a good marriage” and “running off with some strangers from the wrong side of the tracks” and determined to drag him back home and bring him to heel

Vice: Weird – Victor studies the strange and unusual now under the tutelage of Elder Gutknecht, the Reconciled spirit whose former house they are now using as a lair in Six Towers; he indulges by having lessons with Gutknecht and doing meditation exercises and the like.

Special items:

Fine lightning hook (collapsible): Two load – Victor gets this strange collapsible rod with an electroplasmic loop on the end from Bonejangles as he’s trained in the ways of capturing spirits

Fine spirit mask: One load – Victor makes this himself, using the wings of dead moths and an old masquerade domino mask; the wings twitch and his eyes glow with ghostly pale light whenever he’s using it

Electroplasm vials: Zero load – Victor gets a LOT of these from just picking up after the ghosts in Six Towers, and he mostly uses them in his experiments to infuse insects with the stuff

Spirit bottles (2): One load – also from Bonejangles, to go with the hook and hold captured ghosts

Ghost key: Zero load – a gift from Elder Gutknecht, to open ghostly doors around the city?

Demonbane charm: Zero load – either from Bonejangles or Gutknecht, to help keep him out of sight of even more dangerous supernatural entities

Smiler:

Playbook Type: Sleech (Leech (tinkerer and chemist) with some Slide (smooth-talking manipulator) elements)

Heritage: Akoros, born in Duskwall – child of Dr. Kellard Kelman of The Sanctuary

Background: Underworld – good little cultist, relatively-newly-established drug dealer

Point Spread:

Insight: Hunt, Study, 1 Survey, 2 Tinker

Prowess: Finesse, Prowl, Skirmish, 1 Wreck

Resolve: Attune, Command, 1 Consort, 2 Sway

Smiler ended up being a little hard to stat out for me because of their combined status as a Slide and a Leech -- I wanted them to be the “tech person” of the group, while also being the most charismatic one. I ended up solving the issue by simply combining the starting stats of a Leech -- 2 Tinker, 1 Wreck -- with the starting stats of a Slide -- 1 Consort, 2 Sway. The remaining point I put into Survey as that’s the one that felt appropriate for “reading a room” and figuring out what people might want -- plus it wasn’t a stat Victor or Alice had, so it helped fill in a little hole in their skill set there!

Starting Special Ability: Alchemist – when inventing or crafting anything alchemical, they get +1 to the result level, and they start with one special formula already known (this is what pushed me to fully commit to combining the Leech and Slide playbooks, as I really wanted this for them -- it went well with their “drug dealer” backstory for this verse, and allowed me to start with them knowing how to make, what else, Joy Serum! XD)

As for future special abilities, I already know that I want Physicker from the Leech playbook, which would allow Smiler to act as the team doctor, tinkering with bodies to treat wounds and study maladies (allowing everyone to get +1d to healing rolls -- and healing is TOUGH in this game, so you want as many as possible!). And from the Slide playbook, I have in mind A Little Something On The Side, which gives them extra stash (personal cash) at the end of each downtime phase, to represent their continued sales of Joy Serum when they’re not doing jobs with Victor and Alice, and Mesmerism, which allows Smiler to Sway someone and then make them forget it happened until the next time they interact, which -- well. Part of The Smiler’s whole deal is hypnotism and controlling people, is it not? So yes, appropriate.

Friend and Rival:

Friend: Matthew and Carol Alton, their parents in the Advocates cult – cheerful, helpful, and totally devoted to their god, they are only too happy to lend a hand to their adopted child and their new friends (even if sometimes that hand is in the form of trying to get said friends to become Advocates and worship Mar-Mal)

Rival: Robert “Big Bob” Wickerman, a rival cultist – stern, hot-tempered, and charismatic, Robert leads the up-and-coming Beornen cult, which worships him as the mortal shell of their god and considers modern technology (in particular the use of electroplasm to create electricity) to be the source of the world’s ills. Bob and Smiler in particular hate each other because Smiler successfully hooked a few of his Beornen on Joy Serum, and Bob responded by trying to set the Advocates’ headquarters on fire

Vice: Pleasure – to seek happiness is worship unto Mar-Mal, and Smiler is a master at finding something to enjoy no matter where they are; they typically indulge in Six Towers by visiting Chef Roselle’s Golden Plum restaurant, where they regularly dine (and treat Victor and Alice) using the profits of their Joy Serum trade

Special items:

Fine tinkering tools: One load – a gift from their parents to help them with their crafting; contains tools appropriate to work on most spark-craft devices, and some basic chemistry kit stuff (vials, tubing, test strips for different substances)

Bandolier: One load – a strap of leather with pouches for three alchemical concoctions, which Smiler uses to store useful potions and such

Blowgun and darts, syringes: Zero load – Smiler had the syringes already for people to use to inject Joy Serum; the blowgun and darts come later for sneakier druggings

Gadgets: Up to three load – Smiler starts off with two they’ve made/adjusted, each at one load: a collapsible black-white-and-yellow spiral disc that spins when you activate its electroplasmic “battery” (Smiler uses this as a hypnotic focus for anyone they feel could benefit from a bit of trance), and a suitcase with fold-up legs and pull-out displays (Smiler uses this to carry their samples of Joy Serum and syringes and hawk them to the masses – it’s basically a traveling salesperson’s case)

Fine clothes and jewelry: Zero load/two load (if carried as a separate outfit) – this is actually a result of them stealing Victor’s stuff back; Smiler admires some of his clothes, and Victor promptly says “take what you want and have it redone to fit you.” So Smiler does and gets some fancy suits for fancy times

Spiritbane charm: Zero load – again, just standard issue in Duskwall

Crew:

Playbook Type: Shadows (the saboteurs, spies, and thieves), with maybe a bit of Hawker (the sellers of things) on the side

Name: The Three Pillars (I think Victor literally just blurts this out when asked by another gang, inspired by the fact their lair is in Six Towers and there’s three of them, and they roll with it)

Reputation: Tier 0, Rep 0, seen as Strange (they are a bit of an odd bunch)

Lair: “Gutknecht Bend” in Six Towers, the old home of one Elder Gutknecht, a former Whisper who, near the end of his life, found the secret to leaving his mortal shell to travel like a ghost. . .only for his physical body to die while he was out wandering and be taken away by the Spirit Wardens. On the plus side, his out-of-body experience seems to have helped him keep his sanity and become a “Reconciled” spirit instead of falling to the madness for life essence. The lair consists of an old boxy building with a right-triangle roof that served as Gutknecht’s living quarters, and a slightly-crumbling tower attached to said building with his library, workshop, and pet ravens at the top.

Hunting Grounds: AKA where the gang do most of their crimes...which is still being determined! Their first scores would take them to Charhallow to find a way to kill Bumby without leaving a ghost (or possibly just get evidence of his crimes to one of the famously incorruptible Inspectors in the Bluecoats; everyone WANTS to kill him, though), and to Nightmarket to steal Victor’s stuff from his house. Given I want them to be kind of heroes of the little people, though, I suspect they’d end up doing a lot of stuff in Coalridge, the industrial neighborhood, aiding the factory workers in fighting against cruel foremen and union busters.

Starting Crew Special Ability: I had a tough time deciding on this one at first, but after some consideration (done while writing this up, ironically), I’ve decided to go with Pack Rats, which turns the lair into a jumble of (possibly stolen) items and makes it easier to acquire an asset outside of scores (you get +1d on the roll) -- that feels appropriate for Gutknecht’s mess of a library in the movie!

As for future upgrades, Ghost Echoes is definitely on the list -- Victor learning a ritual to allow them all to see and interact with the ghost field of the city just feels like a natural progression of his Whisper training under Gutknecht! I also like the idea of them becoming Synchronized, which allows them to do a group action together and count multiple sixes from multiple people (like, both Smiler and Alice get a six) as a critical success, meaning they do even better when they work together. :) And from the Hawkers sheet, I’m tempted by Ghost Market for Smiler’s Joy Serum at some point -- figuring out how to prepare it so ghosts and demons can use it seems like an interesting project!

Starting Crew Upgrades:

Hidden – Elder Gutknecht’s house is not easy to find in the tangle of abandoned buildings in Six Towers, despite being relatively distinctive – Gutknecht kept it well-warded in life, and in death his presence has kept out the squatters, who tell people to avoid it (ironically, they’re warning people away from the one building in town that has a guaranteed friendly ghost in it). It’s a good hiding spot for three people accused of a very serious murder!

Training: Prowess – Upon being informed of their situation, Matthew and Carol Alton and their fellow Advocates were only too happy to help Smiler, Victor, and Alice hone some of the skills necessary to be a successful crew, such as how to handle things dexterously, how to move unseen when necessary, how to defend themselves in a fight, and how to destroy what should be destroyed. (In mechanical terms, the gang earns 2 XP instead of 1 when they train the “Prowess” XP track, related to these skills: Finesse, Prowl, Skirmish, and Wreck)

Cohort: Expert – Elder Gutknecht himself, who serves as their arcane expert and a teacher for Victor. He is an Occultist (being the ghost of a Whisper), is Tier 1 in quality, has the edge Independent (can be trusted to make good decisions on his own), and the flaw Principled (he has a personal code of ethics he won’t betray).

Workshop – Elder Gutknecht’s old lab and library – contains a number of interesting books on the occult, a well-appointed chemistry set, and a gadget-making bench. (And many many ravens.)

As for future upgrades, the first one on the list is Quarters, which...okay, technically the gang lives in the house before they get this upgrade, but it is far from comfortable. Getting the Quarters upgrade in this instance means they’ve finally cleaned up the house to a more decent state and have gotten themselves nice mattresses and such to sleep on. The Secure upgrade would also be a good idea -- putting actual locks on the door to start, and maybe helping Gutknecht upgrade his old wards once Victor’s skilled enough. And having the crew figure out Thief Rigging to give themselves two free load slots to carry around tools and gear would be handy too!

Favorite Contact: Ms. Plum, owner and cook at the Ball & Socket Tavern, a drinking establishment on the edge of Six Towers; popular among Whispers (Victor’s friend Bonejangles is the entertainment there). She’s a friendly sort and willing to pass along information she may hear, or direct them to people who may need their help.

Faction Relationships: I haven’t fully figured this one out yet, but I know the main relationship that they would have --

The Advocates: +1, Friendly – The Advocates are the worshipers of the forgotten god Mar-Mal, the Unending Smile, and Smiler is a member in good standing among their ranks (as is to be expected, given they were adopted by two members after running away from Kelman). They are only too happy to give a bit of aid to them and their new friends, especially if said new friends can be persuaded to join their ranks.

As for others, the Beornen of Wickerman would naturally be unfriendly, as would the Bluecoats. However, there’s a group of disgraced Bluecoats, called the Gray Cloaks, who hang out in Six Towers as well, looking for evidence to clear their names of a crime (burning down a watch house containing important documents in the case against one of the leviathan hunters) -- the Three Pillars might be able to forge some sort of alliance with them in the future! And of course I’m thinking I have to add the other Alton Towers coasters in at some point (preferably all as part of cults and secret societies of their own). It’s something I’m still working on!

Whew -- lot of information there, huh? But I hope you find it helpful for understanding what these versions of Victor, Alice, and Smiler are like. I mean, if nothing else, maybe it’ll inspire someone to take a look at Blades in the Dark...

This fanfic is a response for three(!) challenges, woohoo!! @fictober-event, @flufftober, and another of my 3...ish planned entries for @launchtheship (my 4th for that already exists bc of me, oopsie~).

New ship + time limit = plotless, no context fluff. YuNaFa is definitely one of my more kick-and-giggles polyships than anything, NanoFei is OTP... but these 3 are cute don't come at me!! :{

Featuring the Day 8 prompts "Do you remember?" and Shooting Stars from fictober and flufftober respectively. YuNaFa are in their 20s, btw~

"Do you remember?"

Nanoha hadn't meant to speak at all; Yuuno, glasses askew, was dozing against Fate's shoulder while she watched the sky, and Nanoha didn't want to wake him. But the sight of the two of them curled together under the blanket filled her with such tenderness the words just came out, however softly.

Fate looked a bit sleepy too, blinking cutely at Nanoha wedging herself into the corner of the window seat, next to them. "Remember what? Thank you," she added, shifting carefully to accept the mug of hot chocolate from the tray Nanoha had brought back.

"How this started. You know, us." It seemed silly now that she had said it, so Nanoha sipped from her own mug to hide any embarrassment.

She remembered. How Yuuno was her first friend, her first crush, and how Fate was her first... everything. Yuuno drifting away more and more but always in her mind, Fate always pulling her back to their families, her fondness for Yuuno ever present.

She remembered inner turmoil somewhere along that timeline, but not what came of it. Yuuno and Fate seemed to dissolve that turmoil over and over so she never had to voice it, each in their own way, until seemingly all of a sudden, her duet with Fate became a trio with Yuuno.

She had just swallowed a drink of cocoa when Fate said, "We asked you out."

Heart jolting, Nanoha inhaled carefully, managing not to cough. "You what? No, I-I don't think that's..."

Fate's ruby eyes glimmered. "It is, really. We'd long since forged a friendship and a sort of truce, and obviously you loved me, so we took a gamble." She smiled, and then drank from her mug.

"Why don't I remember that...?" Mildly distressed, she sipped more and more cocoa until her mug was empty.

"Because you live in the present? Maybe." Yuuno stirred, stretching his arms out of the blanket with a gentle yawn.

"Clever," Fate murmured. "Have you been eavesdropping the whole time?"

"I heard something about our friendship," he said, slinging an arm around Fate and smiling disarmingly. "And then I smelled cocoa."

Nanoha handed the third mug to Yuuno, then squiggled over to lean on Fate.

"Wait, wait," Yuuno said, setting his mug down. "This won't do at all!"

Much laughter, rearranging and untangling later, Yuuno retrieved his mug and placed his chin on Nanoha's shoulder where she sat in Fate's lap, the blanket enveloping her once more. "Better," he announced. Then he slurped from his mug right next to her ear.

"Yuuno-kun!" she squawked (along with Fate), giggling.

"Pardon me," he said in a very unapologetic tone, sitting up properly.

"It's a good thing you're so cute." This from Fate, giving Yuuno a hair-ruffle just shy of a noogie.

"Which reminds me..." Nanoha tucked her legs underneath her. "Was there ever a moment when you two realized you felt more than friendship?" With Fate, it had been classic: that mental lightning bolt throwing their relationship into a new light, something Nanoha truly had to confess because no other way seemed equal in magnitude to the realization. With Yuuno-and-Fate, just like Yuuno-and-Fate with her, she couldn't pinpoint a singular moment.

Her pulse skittered as Fate leaned to kiss the edge of Yuuno's mouth and he snuggled into her. "Well, we both loved you... "

"Even though it took me a little longer to realize it," said Yuuno, blushing.

"Right," Fate said, laughing warmly. "I had to help out with that." Then she looked back at Nanoha, still smiling. "I guess we love you so much that it led to us falling in love too."

"Oh, gosh..." Her bashful laugh that the other two called cute, the one that she was still sometimes self-conscious of, slipped out. Fate's answer felt so true, so tender, that she didn't at all know how to handle it.

"Nanoha..."

She leaned into Yuuno's lips on her cheek, sighing as Fate's hand slid through her hair.

"You don't have to worry,” he said. “What does it matter if you don't remember every moment with perfect clarity? We all love each other, and that's enough."

"I was curious," she whispered, voice made soft by Yuuno's in her ear.

"But not just curious," Fate said.

Of course they were right. "Thank you…” Her heart felt lighter, though she hadn’t realized it had been heavy. “You always know just what to say.”

“I try my best,” they both said.

She smiled.

They were a few minutes into the group hug that Yuuno started when a bright light formed in the sky.

"Shooting star," Nanoha exclaimed, getting an arm out from the blanket to point a bit too late.

"Shh, I'm wishing," said Yuuno.

Nanoha shut her eyes and wished too.

"There's another one...!" Fate's voice was awestruck.

"My wish was so small, I don't think I have another one."

Yuuno laughed softly. "Me neither."

"Oh? And why is that?" Fate asked in her "I know but I want to hear you say it" tone.

Nanoha giggles at Yuuno, who hugs Fate so fiercely he almost knocks both of them over. " Because, Fate-chan! Because I have everything I could ever want right here. Right, Yuuno-kun?"

"Precisely," he said, ruffling her hair the way Fate had done to him. "Although," he added over her squeaks, "I could use some more hot chocolate..."

Nanoha agreed, and she heard Fate agree too. But she stayed in Fate's lap, and Fate's arms stayed around her, and Yuuno didn't move an inch.

In the end, they made more hot chocolate in the morning.

Let's do recs.

2022 was not a bad year for femslash fanfiction.

In particular, 2022 was a surprisingly robust year for femslash. No polyships made it to the top 100, tragically for me. But there was a 10% increase in women of colour!

Which means +5.

But still!!!!! Nice work, everypony!

On a personal note, I focused primarily in 2022 on collecting fics with trans characters, which makes f/f recs that much harder for me to give.

But!! I do have some bangers!

These are listed in order of my bookmarks, not in order of preference.

First up (thus, the most recently bookmarked) is this Yu Gi Oh fanfic featuring Rebecca/Téa(Anzu)

At 4k words, it has a roughly 20 minute read time and is terribly sweet. It's not fluffy, mind you, just heartfelt in a way that little autistic lesbians will relate to. It follows many years of Rebecca's life, from learning about sex, to learning about girls, to learning about the trials of being an adult.

Next up, this Deltarune porno featuring Noelle and Susie.

It's about going into heat as a consequence of HRT as a deer. It's Very Good, if you're into that kind of thing (I am).

This is a gore/horror/delirium piece with some truly compelling and hypnotic wound fucking.

Next, let's talk genderbends. Specifically, let's talk this rule 63 by way of transition Harry/Draco piece. Obviously I'm a big believer in violently ripping HP away from JKR and letting fans use the framework to make better things. And this is one of those better things!!

A sweet but emotionally brutal little piece about realizing you like girls in a gay way because you are one. Only, you're an adult and quite a famous one, so it's Very Stressful Actually.

This last one is far and away my personal favourite of the list. It's a Young Justice fic, though because it's from early in the canon and diverges hugely, you really only need basic familiarity with the concept of Superboy as a character. The ship is Supergirl/M'gann(/kind of Kaldur, who is kind of a girl at the time)

God it's so fucking good. It's so good that it literally caused me to start a trans-and-t4t collection on ao3. I want everyone on earth to read this goddamn fic. It's not really focused on the femslash, it's more of a gender fic, but still!! The premise is simple. A magical attack swaps the sexes of everyone on the team. They all experience crippling dysphoria, save the already fluid and alien M'gann, and Superboy, now Supergirl, who for the first time in her miserable life ISN'T dysphoric, but has no words for any of the joy, or the fear of going back.

Reading update:

YA graphic novel about werewolves. I was kind of meh on it. The artists switched off each chapter and I preferred the style of one of the a lot more.

Military fake dating romance. I like Annabeth Albert a lot so I enjoyed this, though it’s not my favorite thing I’ve read of hers. I was rooting for the two dumbasses to just admit they love each other. My major problem with this one was that I didn’t feel the barrier to them being together was...a thing. Like, once they realized they both had feelings for each other, which they did basically immediately, there was no reason for them to not just...get together for real.

I have the sequel to this one in my TBR pile as well, but it focuses on a character I found extremely annoying in this one. Then again I also didn’t like the side characters in Conventionally Yours, but I ended up enjoying Out of Character more.

I really wanted to like this one, and it was fine. But I didn’t love it? Maybe I just don’t really care for the rich businessman trope. Or the grumpy/sunshine trope? I also have the second book in this series in my TBR pile so we’ll see if I like that one better.

I was also pretty meh on this. idk? I liked the main character but I didn’t really care about the love interest. And it kind of felt like they only got together because the MC got his heart broken by the guy he spent most of the book pining for.

I loved this one! I love KJ Charles, and I seem to be a sucker for post WWI and post WWII mlm romances. Also I loved the fact that the love interest is shady and double-crossing but genuinely cares about the MC. *chef’s kiss* I had to order the other two in the series after I finished this one.

It’s weird to read basically all queer books and then to read a book that...isn’t queer. I picked this one up because it’s sci-fi, set in Minnesota, and by a Minnesotan author. It was pretty good, and I think the first in a series? It’s about how a small town in the Boundary Waters experiences a huge boom because meteorites containing this crazy metal hit there. Features Superpowers From Space (Stan Lee is thanked in the acknowledgements), an idealistic woman cop, and military experimentation.

Very good book that’s inspired by the HH Holmes murders during the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair (The Devil in the White City is a nonfiction book about the subject, if you’re familiar with that). The story centers on a Jewish teen who more or less gets possessed by the spirit of the young man he loves, who is murdered by a serial killer who appears to be targeting young Jewish men. I love World’s Fair settings, and I haven’t read many books with a Jewish cast of characters, particularly not queer Jewish characters, so that was very cool. I recommend this one.

This has been sitting in my TBR pile for like 5 years, and I finally read it. It was a WWII book? idk. I know people love it but it was a solid 3 stars for me. Easy read, though, so despite its length, I got through it fast.

And currently reading:

Why have my last three reads had red covers? I didn’t do that on purpose. Anyway I’m almost halfway through this one and it’s good...but idk if I’ll continue with the series because I read a review that mentioned the endgame romance is a polyship, and I find polyships very squicky (no shade if you like them, they’re just not for me). The world is interesting and I like the main character, and the character who presumably will be his love interest down the line. I’ll have to see how I feel once I finish it.

“Where are we going?” Alfred whined for the third time in the past fifteen minutes. It was cute the first two times, but now it was starting to get on Savino’s nerves. If it wasn’t for Tolys gently squeezing his thigh he would have probably lost his temper.

“We’ll see,” Tolys spoke calmly, “that’s the point of surprises.”

“Yeah but-”

“Alfred.”

“Okay…” Alfred sighed dejectedly, sliding down in the back seat.

“Trust me, Fredo, you’ll love it”, Savino assured him.

Tolys turned back towards Savino, giving him a knowing smile. The Lithuanian was quite perceptive, and Savino had a feeling he was catching onto his surprise.

They had just finished up dinner and the sun was setting over the horizon. Though it was getting late, Savino had one more trick up his sleeve to impress his lovers. Though stars and space were Alfred’s thing, Tolys seemed to also enjoy a night of star-gazing. And who wouldn’t when you had someone as knowledgeable as Alfred to point out all the constellations and seemed to have a story for each one. A few weeks ago, Savino had found the perfect spot for such activities and was determined to share it with his boyfriends.

After another few minutes of driving, they pulled up to a small park that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Alfred peeked outside the window, confused by what they could possibly be doing here.

Savino hopped out and headed towards the trunk to collect the blankets he had brought for the occasion. Alfred joined Tolys in surveying the area. The American looked up at the sky that was starting to give way to a canvas of sparkling stars, far more than he was used to.

“Like the view?” Savino asked with a satisfied smirk.

“It's...beautiful,” Alfred breathed without taking his eyes off the sky. Savino gently took Alfred’s arm and began guiding him towards a spot they could set up the blankets with Tolys in toe. They found a good one towards the middle of the park, right next to the small pond which reflected the skies beautifully. There seemed to be no one there but them which only added to the serene setting. “Was this the surprise?” Alfred asked, eyes sparkling.

“Mhm,” Savino hummed. “You like it?”

“I love it! You know me so well, Vinny.”

The Italian smiled before turning towards Tolys to see his reaction. The brunette looked at the skies with wide eyes though his awe was more reserved. Savino pulled the Lithuanian closer so they were all cuddled up together. Tolys made a surprised squeak before relaxing against his Italian lover.

God, it was simple moments like this that reminded Savino just how lucky he was to have these men in his life. There was Tolys, patient, and understanding, who Savino could go to and talk about anything without being judged. Then there was Alfred’s unconditional and open affection that never failed to make Savino feel like the most important man in the world (well, tied with Tolys of course as Alfred loved them equally)(He was more than happy to share that title with someone he loved so much). And that was only scratching the surface. We’d be here for hours if they were all listed though.

As expected, Alfred began going on and on about the stars and constellations. Savino wasn't quite paying attention, though he had heard this spiel a dozen times. Right now he wanted to commit to memory how the moonlight made Alfred’s eyes shine, how he talked so quickly, but passionately about the topic, and the overall look of wonder that was painted across his features.

“I haven’t seen this many stars since I was a kid,” Alfred mused, tearing his gaze away from the sky to look between his lovers.

“Yeah...it's a shame you can’t see them like you used to,” Tolys agreed. As the lovers admired the sky and the temperature dropped, a chill ran through them. Eventually, it became too cold for their thin dress shirts and they had to call it a night (much to Alfred’s disappointment).

“How about we have some hot chocolate when we get to Savino’s?" Tolys suggested as they made their way back to the car. He hated to see Alfred pouting.

Luckily, Alfred immediately lightened up. “Oooh okay!”

Savino and Tolys laughed at their boyfriend's quick change of mood before linking hands for the rest of the way to the car.

Yugioh Polyship Week - Day 1

Hi! My name’s Sam, and while I’m, 25, I’ve been a yugioh fan since around the age of 4. I used to watch Duel Monsters air on TV Saturday mornings with my brothers! We were also really into the card game and dueled against each other a lot. As time passed and life got busy I kind of lost track of both yugioh itself and the card game, I saw bits of Gx And 5D’s back then but couldn’t keep up. Around the end of high school, however, Arc V started airing so I tried to keep up with Arc V and binge watched GX. After that I went through 5D’s and Zexal and kept up with Vrains, and here I am! I’ve only seen one episode of Sevens so far, though.

The first non-monogamous ship that ever caught my attention was competitorshipping in GX. Jaden/Chazz and Jaden/Jesse are two really big ships in GX, but you know what? Both is good. I also got really invested in Chazz/Jesse because they have a lot of potential that is never really explored in canon, which brings us around full triangle to Chazz/Jaden/Jesse. Around this time I started writing the fic Return to the Different Dimension which largely focuses on competitorshipping, and then that whole thing sort of spiraled into a huge AU I love with my whole heart, but competitorshipping is still a huge part of it to this day.

Competitorshipping is still very much my favorite poly ship. However, writing Return to the Different Dimension gave me a different perspective on the whole thing since it’s post-canon and I started featuring Yubel more heavily into story. Now I also like to think of it as Chazz/Jaden/Yubel/Jesse, where Yubel is a big part of the relationship overall but is for the most part only in a relationship with Jaden. Yubel’s dynamic with both Chazz and Jesse is also super interesting to me, though.

Once a competitorshipping fan, always a competitorshipping fan, I suppose.

Today is, officially, the last day of 2020 - so it's literally just in time that I'm getting to @aosrecweek's amazing challenge. But that does go to show the nature of this crazy year a little bit, right? Time has just been INSANE, and I honestly cannot believe it's so close to over.

That said, I want to put it out there that everyone - absolutely everyone - who created something in this mad year, is a SUPERHERO. Like. We could have hidden away in dark corners, curled into little balls, and lost touch with our creativity entirely - but instead, we made some of the most fantastic content I have ever seen. And, excuse the language, but that is fucking amazing, of each and every single one of us. We're bloody INCREDIBLE, you guys. We really are.

Now, the rules of this challenge dictate that I've got to start with some of my own things, then repeat with the same number of creations by other people. So I'm going to do that, and I apologise for the sheer length (and self-plug-iness) of what is about to follow - but, bloody incredible, remember? I really mean that. 💜💜💜

My Own:

you could call me babe for the weekend - 19k of Spideychelle being oblivious, mutually pining IDIOTS while being snowed in. And, you know, fake dating. (This thing was SO MUCH FUN to write and though, yeah, it got completely out of control, as evidenced by the 19k, I still really love it.)

'tis the damn season - my first attempt at writing a multi-chap, and, yeah, it only has one chapter as of now, but I really love said chapter. Basically, it's Daisy and Mackelena being friends, and honestly just the BEST friends - I adore the style I managed to achieve in this thing. Plus, the Skimmons I have planned up next is going to be da bomb.

the closest thing - Philindaisy plus fake family. Also; amusement parks. And for a fangirl like me - well, it was pretty much a dream come true to write!

oh valley of plenty - in this fic, I basically told myself, so AoS won't give us Huntingbird in the finale? Fine. I'll just do it myself then - in the fluffiest way possible. And that's exactly what I did - making them, and their kids, be best friends in Perthshire.

maybe life should be about more - a very angsty Skimmons and Daisy-centric AU, focusing on the internalised homophobia Daisy has experienced through her life, and shaking it off (and eventually, y'know, getting together with Jemma.)

and it's dark in a cold december (but i've got you to keep me warm) - Fitzsimmons just make such a supreme pairing for hurt/comfort, what with how insanely well they understand each other and care about each other, so I'm really glad for the Fitzsimmons Secret Santa giving me the chance to write this! Basically, this follows our science duo through a stressful mission on Christmas Eve (so yes, it's a mission fic!!) and realising that the two of them can do anything together.

july second - ahhh, one of my personal favourites to write! Daisy birthday surprise fluff will always be top-notch for me, especially for all the team-as-family fluff you can add in, especially especially that this is set in Staticquake times! Also, it's from Hunter's point of view, which will forever be the most insanely fun thing to write, I do think.

i just wanna be with you - man, I'm such a big royal fan, so getting the chance to write a modern royalty AU for my OTP was nothing short of amazing!! This is Princess Daisy and her fiancée Lincoln Campbell at their official engagement interview

see the line where the skye meets the sea - shameless season 1 bby Bus Kids fluff, featuring movie nights, singalongs and... so much fluff your teeth will rot. Also I'm really freaking proud of the pun in the title okay

'cause all that you are is all that i'll ever need - Huntingbird waking up together fluff (because, fight me, Huntingbird in their sweet moments is one of the sweetest things you will ever get to read or write.) This is also my, fluffy, take on the origin of the Franny's Saloon keychain.

we love you, we love you (and we hope you love we too) - aha, my first polyship fic! Also my first try at some actually fancy HTML formatting (forever thanks to Kat for explaining.) Both of these things combined to form a fic that even I think is ridiculously fluffy and funny, and kinda amazing, at that.

and man I don't know where the time goes (but it sure goes fast like that) - Another Bus Kids movie night fic, but this one set post-season 7, and reflecting on how far they've come. A little bit more hurt/comfort-y than it's pure fluff prequel, but still super fluffy and soft. And, of course, with a happy ending.

she shares my dreams, i hope that someday, i'll share her home - snowy Fitzsimmons fluff, complete with them falling in love at the Winter Olympics, as you do.

then you walked in and my heart went boom - 16k of Dekesy for the wife, and remarkable for that, because literally a month ago from this, I hated Dekesy with my entire soul. Then I started reading Kat's fics, and, well, fell in love with them... so much so that I wrote sixteen thousand words of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, bed sharing holiday fluff for them.

a love like that - a Fitzsimmons Cinderella AU, featuring my two favourite science babies, in true science bby style, falling in love over science and how stupid the whole courting thing is. Also, Daisy makes a brief appearance, and she's the freaking best.

ever after - ah, probably the one single fic I'm proudest of. A post-season 7 Daisy character study focusing on her emotional rollercoaster re: losing her family/things never being the same again, which just achieves... an emotional level that I have never managed to replicate again. I was full-on sobbing while writing it, and, guys, it also part-holds the Closest To Making Kat Cry prize.

blue - Daisy character study spanning snapshots of seven seasons, and before - but tied together by something blue in every moment. Researching for this, and finding all the blue moments, was very interesting, and immensely satisfying, especially since all the moments where a little bit of blue was present actually combine to chronicle Daisy's journey on the show remarkably well.

who is that girl I see - the one time I decided to write straight angst, and straight angst with no happy ending. Melinda May post-Bahrain, folks.

take my hand, take my whole life too - aww, the first thing I wrote that I really and truly loved. A Staticquake and Fitzsimmons Actors AU, featuring a proposal on set and INCREDIBLE amounts of fluff and softness.

hold out your hand, 'cause friends will be friends - the wife's favourite, and, as second fics go, pretty damn good, if I do say so myself. It's a Soulmates AU for Staticquake and Mackelena, with the focus being on DaisyMack friendship, and lots of denial, angst, and guilt about finding their soulmates. (They figure it out eventually, don't worry - it's me, of course I made them happy.)

Fitzsimmons + Fake Dating moodboard - Fake dating will always be FAB, and picturing it out in a moodboard - especially for my clueless bby best friends in love - was the best, and super satisfying.

Staticquake + Orange moodboard - One of the cooler ideas I had for Trick or Treat (which I still have not finished, heaven help me) was to make a series of moodboards for my OTP plus different colours. This orange one is just so light, and cheerful, and happy, and honestly I kinda adore it.

This Philindaisy + Family Moodboard - making moodboards can be insanely frustrating when you just can't find the photo that fits exactly right. With this one, however, I found all the pics I needed pretty insanely fast, and, better, the whole thing just worked, and really nicely so, too.

This Bus Kids + Baking Cookies moodboard - there's absolutely NO faults to be found with tiny, adorable Skye, Fitz and Jemma concocting choc chip cookies - but I'm actually doing a tiny cheat here, because, cute as my moodboard here is, the accompanying fic by my love @eowima is the SWEETEST and best thing you could ever wish for!!!

Chasing Cars (even after the story ends) by @aleksandrachaev - the epic Dekesy roadtrip AU and incredible Daisy character study itself, which, I do believe, finishes today!! Words aren't enough to describe how freaking AMAZING this thing is, or how spectacularly well characterised. Just: if you haven't read this yet, you are missing out. You will laugh, you will groan, you will want to wrap Daisy in a very tight hug, and you will probably cry, too. This fic just has it all, really!

there goes the maddest man this town has ever seen by @aleksandrachaev - the post-season 7 Deke-crashes-the-Framework-Zoom-call fic I didn't know I needed (but spent the next two weeks rereading every single night.) It is absolutely INCREDIBLE, with all the Deke & Team feels we missed in the final outro scene, and honestly just the most fantastic writing. I cannot recommend it enough!

To Box It Up And Start Again (everything must go) by @aleksandrachaev - bloody hell, this BROKE me. Deke never really got to say goodbye in canon, but Kat gave him the chance to do it here. And, my freaking GOODNESS, she made it so incredibly bittersweet and heart-shattering. 10/10

i am a leaf on the wind by @aleksandrachaev - a little bit of a stretched-out, reflective moment in the season 7 finale. As Daisy lingers on the edge of death, she reflects on all the lives she could have had - and, man, what a study in bittersweetness!! This entire fic is utterly incredible, and something I think all Daisy fans should read.

Falling Into Place by @aleksandrachaev - here's a tiny cheat from me (sorry, babes, lmao) because technically this isn't one fic, but a series of three. Way too amazing to miss out on, though!! Set mid-season 7, this has the Chronicoms go after a young Mary Sue Poots to kill Quake before she can become a problem for them. They stop the Chronicoms, yes, but not without a TREMENDOUS dose of feels and hurt/comfort. There's also a wonderful little dose of Dekesy friendship, and then an adult adoption (!!) that honestly made my entire day to read. Actually, that's true for the entire series - I really canNOT yell about it enough!!

destroyer of worlds by @bobbimorseisbisexual - a study in incredible parallels between Jiaying's daughters. Utterly breathtakingly done, this will give you ALL the feels for this small and complex Inhuman family.

Muscle Memory by @robotgort and @bobbimorseisbisexual - a Huntingbird!! Bones!! AU!! And also a collaboration between two of the most fabulous Huntingbird authors in the fandom - honestly, what more can you ask for?! This will make you laugh, and gasp, and wince, and keep you guessing at each new plot twist (and also screaming at your screen for Hunter and Bobbi to get their acts together and TALK ABOUT IT.) In short: it's completely and utterly amazing, and I cannot, cannot recommend it enough!!

You Belong Among the Wildflowers by @libbyweasley - a freaking incredible Scis & Spies Regency AU! I only just started reading, but I was hooked all the way through, especially on the way Libby writes all four characters' complex relationships (and their attraction, and their history!) Everything about it is just completely stunning, and I for one cannot WAIT for these beautiful idiots to figure out they all belong together.

Family Snapshot by @tomatobookworm - if it's family fluff you're after, especially Staticquake family fluff, look no further! This tremendously soft and utterly amazing fic follows a day in the lives of a pregnant Daisy and her husband Lincoln, and their not-so-little family of Inhumans, both adopted and biological. There's also shopping with Grandma May, lots of feels, lots of shippiness, and just AMAZINGNESS all the way through!!

Best Day Ever by @loved-the-stars-too-fondly - Jemma and Daisy want to adopt a pet, and make a very special trip to Wisconsin to do it. Also, whether he knows who he is or not, Jemma has an important question to ask Cal - and just, AHHHH, everything about this is utterly stunning! For starters, Aubrey's writing is FANTASTIC, and the scene she sets is absolutely beautiful, and so very bittersweet. I was actually misting up a little with happy tears towards the end of this - really, I cannot recommend this enough, to any Skimmons fan.

so why don't we go somewhere only we know by @loved-the-stars-too-fondly - more Skimmons (platonic this time, though), more hurt/comfort, and, yes, again, more absolutely INCREDIBLE writing. This one is canon compliant, following a shaken Jemma struggling to sleep after Maveth, and how Daisy finds a way to help her out. Incredibly sweet, tender and BEAUTIFULLY written, this one was an instant favourite the moment I read it!

Unspoken by @anxiouslynumbme - a birthday fic for yours truly, and, honestly, one of the most STUNNING Staticquake introspectives I've read. It follows Daisy and Lincoln in a beautifully tender missing moment in season 3, with them both realising their feelings, and just... AHHHHHHHH, everything about it is utterly incredible!! I cannot, cannot recommend this gem of a fic enough

the thing about water droplets and ruffled hair by @que-mint-tea - here's another fic that proves, once and for all, how good Kat's Dekesy is, because it managed to convert T to write some Dekesy smut. And, oh my GOSH, what Dekesy smut - so goshdarn angsty, but so FANTASTICALLY characterised and written that it leaves you more than a little breathless, and gaping at your screen. The first chapter initially left us on the most HORRIFIC cliffhanger, but then T fixed it, and it's just... this thing is really a whole new level of emotional writing, raw and gripping and intensely perfect for both of these characters. My haw still drops whenever I think of this thing, and how utterly AMAZING it was, so yeah. Fic rec!!!

beautiful stranger, there you are by @justanalto - I do believe I still owe Serena a long and very gushy comment on this thing, because, MAN, does it ever deserve that!! Pipsy and fake dating, with the most HILARIOUSLY incredible writing, plot and characterisation, and honestly just a giddy "askhdfkhsfh" whenever I think back to how much I enjoyed it. Yup, it was that good.

Jumping to conclusions by @eowima - a very special one, because it marks my love Océane's first venture into writing AoS fic! It's an AU of 1x06 (the Fitzsimmons episode of s1) where Fitz does actually jump out of the plane to save Jemma. Realisations of feelings, and some of the most genuinely FANTASTIC Fitz characterisation I've read in a while, follow - and, yup, I was shouting at my screen for them just to get together already. Amazing stuff, really!!

Look into your eyes and the sky's the limit by @eowima - okay, this. This. Another gift for me, and one that I will probably treasure forEVER, because it is just?? so?? utterly?? perfect?? Just for starters, the title is a Hamilton reference - and then the theme of Hamilton references continues into the fic itself, I'm delighted to say. There's also the most BEAUTIFUL, playful Skimmons friendship, and teasing, and then of course the bet about who can make out with their crush first... Staticquake & Fitzsimmons perfection. And all rendered in Océane's delightful, best-thing-ever-to-read writing!! I'm going into a giddy keyboard smash just THINKING about this, so yeah, cannot recommend it enough.

lullabies and clear blue skies by @springmagpies and @bobbimorseisbisexual - okay, I never thought I'd catch myself shipping FitzBobbi, let alone shipping it this hard, but... wow. Maggie and Al teamed up to completely blow me away, and MELT MY WHOLE ENTIRE HEART with the sheer cuteness of this!! It features Fitz, Bobbi and adopting two daughters, and it's just the most tender, beautiful development through that little family - I love it so, so much.

We made all the wrong choices by @browneyedgenius - the winner of the AoS Angst War 2020, how could I not include this one? It is such a well-deserved win, though, whoa - I was sobbing, full-on sobbing, at least twice while reading. It follows the season 5 team through the events of the time-loop, after they failed to save the world - and, oh my gosh, it ripped my heart right out of my chest, but beautifully so. Everything about this fic just hits so hard, and it's written so well - yeah, really a most AMAZINGLY deserved win, for an utterly SHATTERINGLY incredible fic.

I threw stones at the stars (but the whole sky fell) by @nazezdha321 - this is Z showing us all how to write a backstory for a minor character, and write it so well that everyone's hearts break all over again when she dies. This one is about Victoria Hand, and it builds a stirring and profound childhood for her, also making her rise through the ranks of SHIELD and just her entire character mean so much more. Really, fic-wise, this is goals, and I take my hat off to you, Z, 1000%, for writing it.

in which the universe is put together by @besidemethewholedamntime - Rebecca's emotional writing, particularly Fitzsimmons' emotions, is incomparable, and she proves it all over again in this fic. If follows Fitz and Jemma before, after and during the bloodwork, and I just... wow, honestly. The emotion!! And the characterisation!! Absolutely stunning, and honestly all I could wish for in a we-had-time fic.

Agents of SHIELD Season 8 by @egumal - THIS. This, this, this, oh my gosh - as fix-it fics go, this has to be the most spectacular one I have ever read. What it does is find a way - a potentially canon compliant way, too - to bring back Lincoln Campbell, and reunite Staticquake. Basically: just about as season 7 finishes, the Astro Ambassadors get an unexpected visitor from another timeline, who asks them to come help out against Hive. Case in point, Daisy meets her lost love again (... but he has no idea who she is) and also has to relive the Fallen Agent drama. It all gets even more complicated when Kora restores Lincoln's memories, and Daisy meets the full team Deke has assembled around him in the 33 years (for him) that they've been apart... in short, this is one of the most thorough, well-written and downright SHOCKING plot-twist-wise fics that you will ever read, and honestly, saying "I can't recommend it enough" is an understatement. This thing is thd BEST, plain and simple!

Black Roses aren't real (but you and I are) by @ohwriteiforgot - ahhhh, a fic that will always have an incredibly special place in my heart, because it introduced me to one of my best fandom friends. The main focus is on Clintasha, it's true, but it's also a crossover with AoS in the sense that Clint was adopted by Coulson and May. Also, Daisy is his little sister, and their bond is gold. Also - there's Staticquake!! And flower shops!! And rivals to friends to lovers!! All I'm going to say is, what more can you ask for?!

A book to shield my story by @maybebrilliant - Staticquake High School AU, ahhhhhhhh!! There are only two chapters out so far, but the way this is shaping up is making my DAY - with Daisy as the new girl who meets Lincoln and his group of friends, and, though her foster parents are absolutely shit, starts to find actual happiness in a school for the first time in her life. Also - THE REFERENCES. Guys. I'm crazy for those, and in this book, so are my favourite dorks, Daisy and Lincoln - and let me tell you, it's nothing short of the best thing ever.

This AoS Finale Gif Edit by @heysteverogers - AoS really has been the most INCREDIBLE journey through the years, but what's really made it special is the company - and that's summed up perfectly in this gorgeous gifset. Also, the graphics on this are just, ahhhh, stunning - I'm in awe, and I've spent very long periods of time just looking at this thing in a state of heart-eyes.

This AoS Finale Gif Edit by @jemannesimms - combining Auld Lang Syne and the final scenes of my favourite show was a raw emotional - but utterly brilliant experience - for me. It's just so absolutely beautiful, and perfectly suited to the team, and their goodbyes!! Breathtaking editing work here, too.

This Daisy as Peter Parker and May as Tony Stark moodboard by @agentsofcomedyandchaos - ahhhh, a crossover of two of my favourite fandoms!! And what a lovely one, too - the colour scheme, quotes, and just the whole FEEL of this is absolutely genius, and I am guilty of being inspired by way too many fic ideas by it. Stunning stuff!!

And... whoa, that was long, but I really do feel that we deserve a bit of a proper pat on the back after creating such magical content in such a messed up year. So that's the note I'm going to leave you with for 2020, my friends: hell-year or no, look at the absolute beauty we were still able to create!! We really are freaking amazing, guys.

Let me be explicitly clear, I mean the book, not the film. Does this one count as enemies to lovers? Antagonists to lovers? Driving each other absolutely crazy to lovers? DWJ is so, so, so good at writing characters who are real people with all their flaws, and that is absolutely the heart of this pairing - that Sophie and Howl both see the worst the other has to offer and fall in love anyway. It's not so much a romance as it is each of them pointing to the hissing, clawing thing in the corner of the pet store and saying, "That's the one."

Vickie Bliss/Sir John Smythe

Vickie Bliss mystery series by Elizabeth Peters

Okay, so, I love a slow burn. Reallllly love a slowburn. So a romance that takes multiple books to work out? BE STILL MY BEATING HEART. Elizabeth Peters is better known for her Amelia Peabody mysteries featuring an intrepid turn-of-the-century egyptologist, but I've always liked her Vickie Bliss mysteries the best, because they are So Damn Fun. Sir John Smythe is a dashing overbred lord-turned-art-thief who is every bit as much a slitherer-outer as the Wizard Howell ever was. Vickie Bliss, on the other hand, is the six feet of blonde American art expert he never saw coming. These mysteries are strong on the romantic-suspense action, but what really sells me on their relationship is the HUMOR, because they always start laughing just when things begin to border on the melodramatic.

Harriet Vane/Lord Peter Wimsey

Lord Peter Wimsey mystery series by Dorothy Sayers

Did I mention slow burn? This is probably the 'ship on this list I've had the longest, and oh, it's a doozy. Harriet Vane is one of my favorite female characters EVER, which is particularly impressive when you consider that this series was written in the 1930s. And how can you not be intrigued by a romance that starts with one character having to desperately solve a murder in order to save the life of the person who is on trial for said murder? What I really love about this romance is how deliberately paced it is, and how although they are both attracted Harriet is very decisive about needing space and time to reach a place where they can have an equal standing before they go further. SO GOOD.

Parker/Elliot/Hardison

Leverage

MY BABIES. I just... I just can't with these three. This polyship hits SO MANY of my buttons. Taking time for things to develop in a healthy manner. Respect for boundaries. Ace relationships. Learning that people can love you even if you don't feel worthy of it. Finding a home in other people. Each of these three fills a gap for the others, but at the same time they all work to become better, more whole people in themselves. Plus they would each die/murder without question for the others. What's not to love?

Evelyn Carnahan/Rick O'Connell

The Mummy (1999) and sequel

Okay, okay, I had to have one non-slow-burn pairing on here, I guess. Do I even have to explain this one, though? Part of it may just be that this level of relationship was so very unexpected in an action movie, where women are usually treated as interchangeable. But here comes this rough-edged adventurer who takes one look at this well-bred and intrepid librarian and his blood is instantly replaced with Respect Evie Juice. The chemistry between these two absolutely sells it.

Part 1

You’re drowning in him, body pinned against dusty shelves by sheer presence alone, and the way he slinks closer sends shivers down your spine.

He’s still several yards away, all cat-like grace and predatory intention, and every second that passes, every slow step he takes, overflows with anticipation. He moves like there isn’t a single being in existence who can challenge him, dominance pouring off him in waves that would put even the Alpha and Omega to shame.

A wolfish smile has the lights stuttering, and when the darkness lifts he’s closed the distance between you by half.

Your heart follows the unsteady cadence of the fluorescent bulbs above you, and you wish he would just strike. Snap you out of existence. Do something, other than toy with you this way.

Another blink and he’s right there, frost-kissed breath unfurling across your face. One more has his fingers wrapping around your throat, firm squeeze hindering your shallow breaths, but not cutting them off completely.

He wants you to feel the raw power thrumming beneath his hand, to know how easy it would be for him to end you right then and there. You imagine he intends to relish the fear saturating your system, but it’s not the only thing tingling across your senses.

There’s a frightening pull to him, an animal magnetism that sparks something on the most basic of levels, and it overwhelms you to the point you almost can’t feel the chill of his vessel as he cages you in place.

“Well, how about that,” he drawls, the inner circle of ice melting as his gaze ignites in a burst of red grace, and the smirk splashing wicked across his features speaks of something other than frigid retribution.

There’s a dampness gathering between your legs, and the devious chuckle rumbling through his throat does little to discourage it.

“Have to say, I didn't peg you as the type to have a fear kink..."

His grip around your throat relaxes, thumb easing over the edge of your chin to trace along your lower lip. There’s a heated sensuality beneath his touch, and that unrelenting primal undercurrent to it all has you unconsciously squeezing your thighs together.

He leans forward at an achingly slow pace, giving you plenty of time to react, deny him, resist.

There’s no point. He’s too strong for you to fight alone, and he’s aware of the treachery brewing within your body.

For a moment, you think he might actually kiss you. The thought is like a livewire arcing through your system.

It’s immediately replaced by an aching disappointment as he turns his head at the last second, nose pressing into the bare skin along your collar. He inhales, deeply, before tracing the tip along your jaw.

He breathes heavily against the shell of your ear, mouth grazing it as he speaks. “Or maybe someone just likes to play with dangerous things.”

He tests the waters, hand searing through your jeans as he palms the side of your hip. You make the smallest of noises as his thumb slips beneath the hem of your shirt, stroking the sensitive skin along your waistband.

“I know you’ve been told the devil’s supposed to be bad,” he purrs, “but I promise, I can also be real, real good.”

You gasp as his tongue snakes out, forked tip hitting both the outer shell and just inside your ear. Goosebumps cascade down the length of you, and you grip the shelf behind you to keep your knees from wobbling.

“What do you say, y/n? Would you like to play a game with me?”

He doesn’t wait for you to respond, his tongue salacious along your pulse as he helps himself to a taste.

Any sense you might have left becomes scrambled by the icy electricity that seems to jolt through you with his touch, and all you can do is obey when he nudges your head aside, allowing him better access to your neck. You whimper as his lips latch on to you, sucking just enough to bring your blood to the surface before lavishing the spot with his tongue.

“That’s a good girl,” he praises.

He turns your face back towards him, fingers lightly indenting your cheeks as his eyes bear straight into yours. There’s a hunger that whispers within the darks of his eyes, and the way he bites his lip as his stare slides down the front of you suggests he could devour you whole at any moment.

“We are going to have so much fun together,” he promises, that wolfish grin spreading across his features once again.
