On Everything Discord

I just Reblogged a little something about how annoying it is to see Discord supplant other means of info-dissemination, and it made something click in the back of my mind...

See, I've putzed around with Midjourney, an AI art plugin that resides within Discord proper and that functions as a Discord channel. I'm sure the platform served as a great API hook for researchers looking for a system that would let them organize queries efficiently, but I have to admit I'm a little worried by the idea of everyone else seeing my prompts.

For the most part, Midjourney's Newbies rooms are filled with Vanilla prompts along the lines of "an astronaut in the void of space" or "Superman if he were a Tamil man". The problem is you've also got openly fetishistic prompts and people who clearly have highly particular yens they're not afraid to pitch to the AI cluster as high-effort jobs.

Do I really need to see some guy's generated "tasteful nudes" of a dead celebrity? Do I really need to watch what happens when a bored fifteen year-old decides to dig into the "Loab" prompt? Do I really need to have to scroll up for half a page to pick out my results from everyone else's?

I mean, I get it. Midjourney's a pseudo-scientific novelty, at this point. It's fun to gawk and it's probably really interesting to realize that someone else cared enough about your prompt to request variations of it. Despite that, I'd really like it if my own putzing-around wasn't openly accessible.

Call me old-fashioned, but I value my privacy, is all.

the thing about Web3 is that it is uniquely useless. I have actively searched for an explanation as to why it's the future, what products it would allow us to build, what sort of *good* it would provide, and I cannot even at my most optimistic find a real use case
