One of my favourite things about Fiona and Debbie’s relationship is how it’s such an accurate portrayal of sisterhood when the older sister has always played the role of a mom.

It’s fine when Debbie’s little because she wants a motherly figure. But when she becomes a teenager, she just wants Fiona to be a sister and not a mom. You can see the roles start to shift. Up until then Debbie was the daughter and Fiona was essentially the mother. But at the beginning of the middle seasons as Debbie gets older, they become each other’s sisters. Debbie wants to be Fiona’s equal and to be able to talk to her about things the way sisters can without Fiona lecturing or mothering her.

But Fiona desperately wants to stop Debbie from making the same mistakes she did and to make her see things the way she does, because at the end of the day teenagers still do need guidance from adults. And there were no other adult female figures to do that for her. She can’t just turn off parent mode and be the sister Debbie desperately wants.

One sister having to play the parent role is often unavoidable but it can drive such a wedge between sisters, especially during the younger sisters teenage years.

Soft Eddie for day four. Eddie’s generally a boisterous and excitable man. There’s no shortage of noise in your shared home between the music, DND games, and just Eddie in general. However, when you need quiet time Eddie is more than happy to give that to you. Be it a migraine or a stressful day all you have to do is ask if you can turn it down a little and Eddie instantly understands. He makes a nest out of your bed pillows surrounding a cozy little spot in the middle that has thick blankets and your favorite book. The stereo in the living room is completely off and he speaks in hushed tones when you come home. He tucks you into the little nest and plugs in the fairy lights before handing you your current book so you can decompress before checking on you in a little while to see if you’re ready to let him slide in with you. If you fell asleep he kisses your temple and moves the book to the side closing the door on his way out to cook dinner for you and if you’re awake he slides in with you with a smile saying hi pumpkin like it’s the first time he’s seen you today. He loves to be the one to greet you when you’re ready to re-enter existing and it always make your heart melt to see those big brown eyes light up when you smile at him sleepy and soft but recovered.
