Hi Rain, Merry Christmas in arears and happy new year in advance. I have read through a good amount of your blog and i gotta say you are one of the most sensible taekookers i’ve come across. I have read ur takes on taekook and jikook and i can say i see where you and other taekookers are coming from when u say you think taekook are a couple even though i don’t agree because over the years, there’s been alot of stuff that have directly or indirectly debunked taekook as a romantic pair (for me atleast)

I do have a question for you and ur followers. What will be your reaction if u come to find out one day that taekook have always been just friends and nothing more? How would u view Tae as a person if we all come to find out that he was infact dating Jennie? We had the whole accidental instagram follow back in 2021, the leaked pics in 2022 and the Paris walk in 2023. After Tae “accidentally” followed Jennie in 2021, he went on weverse and said instagram is a scary app. This entire solo era, Tae has honestly done and or said things which could imply that he is in a romantic relationship with Jungkook. We had him namedropping Jungkook on almost all his lives, talking about going to eat at Jk’s place, talking about songs Jk recommends to him and sings to him, him posting that ss of himself and Jk shirtless, posting that pic of himself and Bam in Jk’s house and we all know that he most definitely knows about what fans think of him and Jk. He has actually replied to some taekookers on weverse before. Some jikookers think Tae did some of those things to distract from his relationship with Jennie and others think he does those things so he doesn’t lose his fans who are mostly taekookers. Now no one but Tae knows why he does all these ofcourse and you taekookers would not find anything wrong with the things he does because you honestly believe he and Jungkook are in a relationship and most taekookers hate Jimin because they think Jimin has been a very bad friend to tae all these years by doing Fanservice with Jungkook even though he knows it hurts Jk. You also believe that Tae gets hurt sometimes when he watches Jikook interact. So my question to you is, what kind of a person would u think Tae is if it turns out that he was never in a romantic relationship with Jungkook but did and said all these things anyway even though he knew exactly what it looked like? I know that right now u cannot even imagine it because u really believe that taekook is real, but you used to be a Larrie and u mentioned that at some point alot of things just didn’t make sense anymore so u stopped. You have already been through that route where u shipped two pple and later realized that maybe you were wrong all along and read things wrong. I know that you and other tkkrs love Tae and you believe that he and Jk are a couple but lets be objective here. Tae started mentioning and focusing on talking about Jungkook alot immediately after those photos with Jennie hit the timeline. Now I’m not saying i know his intentions but let’s look at a few things. After May of 2022, we had Tae mentioning Jk on almost all of his lives and sometimes just mentioning him with no context. In June 2022, he did a live saying he would get his tattoo with Jungkook, and then he proceeded to upload a fake tattoo minutes after Jungkook posted his real tattoo. In November he did a live and said he was going to game with Jungkook. At the airport, he said he was supposed to travel with Jungkook, in January he went live and said Jungkook was there at his place gaming with him and his friends, in February he asked Jk to do an instagram live together, mentioned on live that he was going to do a karaoke Live with Jungkook, also mentioned that he was making plans to enlist with Jungkook, does many lives and mentions Jungkook’s names so many times, talks about a song Jk recommended to him (with sus lyrics), talks about Jk singing to him, talks about going to eat at Jungkook’s place, during his entire promotion, he talks about recording at Jungkook’s place, and didn’t give much context until Jk came and explained and gave better context. So Tae is close to his wooga squad too and other members of bts, but he never felt the need to talk about them as much as he spoke about Jk. So if if turns out that Tae was dating Jennie all along, how would you explain these actions of his?

This is just a hypothetical situation ofcourse but i would really love to hear how u would react and and how you will view tae as a person if it turns out that he was never in a relationship with Jk, actually dated Jennie and Jimin has been the one in a relationship with Jk all along. The truth is, everyone is speculating here and no matter how convinced you think u are of ur ship, there is always a possibility that there are certain parts of the puzzle that u missed so u couldn’t come out with the full picture. Think about this and let me know what you and your anons think. Who knows? Maybe in a not so distant future, so many people will be coming back to this ask when think take a completely different turn from what y’all are expecting.

Alright.. let's get the obvious out of the way: You are a Jkkr and you don't much like Tae. You are a very polite Jkkr, and you have read my blog so thanks for that, now let me talk about the way I love Tae.

Tae is my bias. I love al members very much, all of them have a special place in my heart, but Tae is the one who constantly touches me, who has made me realize things about myself, who makes me stronger (even at 41 years old). I feel close to him, because I feel he and I are the same in some ways.. in ways that matter to me. I have always struggled with feeling different. People just don't easily get me, while I always get other people. I have a difficulty making people understand the way my mind works. And I used to think that was my fault, that I was doing something wrong. I've been on a road to acceptance of my weirdness for a long time, and.. even before I became an Army, I was already doing pretty well. I had accepted my weirdness. What Tae brought me was a freedom to also enjoy my weirdness. When I look at him, I see someone who has had the same issues like me, but who is so wonderfull.. I started thinking... who even cares if someone is slightly different from the rest. It's uniqueness. And uniqueness means that some people might not understand you, but others might find you amazing. So that's what Tae means to me. I love how he's soft and cuddly and caring, but he's also sharp as a knife. Tae cares, he cares so much and everyone around him knows it... so why don't you anon?

There's little certainties in shipping. I know I might me wrong about Tae and Jk, but there's other certainties that I do have. I am absolutely certain that Tae and Jk are extremely close, that they love each other even if it's only platonically. I am also very certain that Jm and Tae love each other to pieces. I think fandom has been a thorn in their eyes at times because of the Tkkrs hate Jm and Jkkrs hate Tae issues. I do not think they like serious shipping very much because of it. SO when you aks me, what would I think about Tae if him and Jk are not dating.. I would still think of him the same. My reasons for loving Tae have nothing to do with Tae and Jk. That is just something I noticed, but I do not need Jm to be the bad guy in this story and that is something you have to work on anon.. because you cannot think of Tae kindly wjile also reconciling that with your ship... of which you also cannot be sure. You dislike Tae in favor of a ship that probably isn't real.

If Tae and Jk aren't together I would still think he talked about him that much because they spent so much time together. Tae doesn't talk about Wooga much because when he does a live he is talking to Army. Army knows Jk. Army asks about Jk. When Tae goes live he is constantly reminded of Jk. He talks about him more than other members because they spend more time together.

If Tae and Jennie were real (🥴) I'd think he just went through a toxic relationship that finally ended and was very happy afterwards. It's a weird take to have that he used Jk to hide his relationship with Jennie. Like.. point to the gay to hide a straight one? Maybe they shouldn't have called a pap when they were in Paris then?

I cannot imagine Jkk being real. I mean, to me those two are so much bro-friends I just cannot. There's too much standing in the way for me to think of that as a possibility. Even my hypothetical thoughts end up in me going "nope".

The way Tae behaved at times when Jk and Jm were Jkking is something I would have difficulty explaining if it turns out Tkk isn't real. Because that is odd to me. There's a sadness and an annoyance there that I cannot explain otherwise. I do not feel Tae blames Jm for this, those two are good. If there's feeligns of anger those feelings are for the situation as a whole. Fandom often forgets that members know each other way better than we know them. So Tae knows better what's in Jm and Jk's minds than we do. And that goes the other way around as well. I am convinced that Jm would hate the way you think of Tae, just like Tae would hate the way some Tkkrs think about Jm.

I usually don't comment on stuff like this, because I don't make a habit of pissing on people's parades, but some of the recent things people are using as "proof" (of bbg ending, of Larry communicating with us, etc) are really wild stretches.

And, I usually wouldn't let it bother me; I understand that people (especially newer larries) are just having fun. But, as someone who's been here for a long time and who was part of the fandom when "proof" really meant concrete, vetted, and consistent evidence, I think people are unaware of how creating, spreading, and encouraging these unsubstantiated stretches and theories only support the extremely damaging stereotype that larries are unhinged and that we can (and will) make a connection out of anything, if it suits our narrative. (Which is, literally, what hets and shippers do, so yeah, forgive me if I don't want to be lumped in with that crowd.)

When we talk about Larry signaling (through clothing, warnings, selfies, the bears, etc), I think it's really, really important to remember the context in which those things happened.

They were both banging on the glass closet and seemingly seeding a potential coming out. They were at the height of their 'enemies' narrative and banned from being seen interacting, even while they were living out of each other's pockets. They were restricted by extremely abusive public identities (homophobe and serial womanizer) and contract clauses. They were making music and money for oppressive management and labels, none of which was directly contributing to or even hinting at potential personal career growth outside One Direction. They were signaling not only because it's all they had in terms of connecting with their community, but as an act of extreme rebellion and as a means of winning over even an inch of personal freedom and self-expression. (Remember, Niall wasn't even allowed to keep his natural hair color.)

And, while yes, Harry and Louis are still heavily closeted and being made to participate in (especially in Louis' case) extremely vile and abusive stunts, the context, in terms of their need to be seen (whether it be as their own people, queer people, or as a couple), has actually changed. In terms of self-expression, they're both making music that resonates with their creative identities, that they have some level of control over, and that contribute to them, personally, as individual artists. This means they actually have a personal stake in whether or not their projects do well because its a direct indicator of whether they get to continue making music that they love. Taking that into consideration, its unlikely that they want to overshadow the soul of those projects by slipping in all these little clues about their relationship into their promo. They’ve also (thanks mostly to the fans) found other ways of connecting to the queer community (which is an entirely different objective from wanting people to know about their relationship, specifically.)

To be really honest, I think they’ve actually made a collective decision to work harder to protect the privacy of their relationship, even behind the scenes, for many reasons. (Harris Reed’s recent interview, where he mentioned not really knowing Harry all that well, but alluded to leaving space for his queerness is what swayed me the most.) Being older, and having a lot more at stake (personally and professionally), makes me think they’re now (maybe in the last four or so years) very, very selective about who they share this part of their life with, one, because they each have a lot more to lose now if they’re outed, but also because their relationship is their top priority, and as Harry has said (and no doubt learned), a relationship has never benefitted from being made public (and we have to remember that even “within the confines of the industry” is still very, very “public”).

But, I digress. My point is, they've been together for twelve years, they've written hundreds upon hundreds of love songs to each other, they have their love story tattooed all over their skin. I get if you, individually, need to read into every little clue to prove to yourself they're still together, but don’t confuse that with them needing us to know it.

Again, I'm not saying this to piss on anyone's parade. I love a Larry proof to death and god knows I believe in the real ones with my whole chest (Still the One still gives me chills, Princess Park is fucking perfection, ‘waiting to wrap your legs around me' and ‘tired eyes are the death of me’ are tattooed on my heart). What I'm saying is people need to take context into consideration to keep from devaluing and trivializing actual, solid, vetted Larry proof and signaling because the only people and reputations these stretches and theories are hurting are Larries’.

To lighten up the mood a lil, I have been following the delusional Shakira/Lewis rumors for a while and every week there's a new twist introduced by Spanish media 😭 They tried desperately to make it happen after Barcelona but as expected both went their separate ways immediately after the race. She flew to Colombia and he to NYC. Things slowed down a little. Then came Silverstone. Spanish and British journalists were salivating at finally discovering a goldmine to feed their family for months but to their utter disappointment Lewis flew to Ibiza for minibreak when she was in London. Shakira was spotted with Jimmy, someone she actually had private dinners with according to Deuxmoi, so now according to Spanish press, Lewis and Shakira are in an open relationship. Then radio silence from Lewis leads to the story that he in fact dislikes her and barred her from entering Merc facilities 😭 However Lewis then likes an ig photo of her kids a month later, what does Spanish media do? Invent fake Ibiza sightings for the week that Shakira was in London attending Wimbledon and Vogue parties and Lewis was in Ibiza. Lewis himself was photographed filming INEOs commercial in uk at the end of the same week but they were apparently teleporting to Ibiza. Finally Summer break, by this point they have already spent months theorizing that Lewis will be vacationing in Caribbeans with her.So what happens? You know it already, NOTHING. Lewis has fun in the studio with friends, picks up Roscoe, leaves for Colorado the before she returns to LA. So they try to get a "oh they were probably in the same studio" theory going but those don't catch on and now we have a Dominican psychic claiming that they've actual split because Lewis demanded a child. Mind you all of this has happened in THREE (3) months and these two have never once met outside of three post-race events 😭 They're making Larry shippers look sane 😭

I am pointing Wenclairs out specifically, because from my own experience they are the ones who take the shipping beyond just the fictional duo of Wednesday and Enid to applying to their real-life counterparts of Jenna and Emma. The Wenclairs have been the most aggressive in their shipping and are the ones more likely to actually attack people over other ships.

I’m aware that Percy and Jenna have some speculation, but in my observation those shippers have not been weirdly aggressive about it.

Hunter and Jenna have not had any due to Hunter's homosexuality and husband.

In the brief time I was on IG, I was seeing comments of people declaring that Jenna was for sure a lesbian and they act as if they have insider knowledge. It’s weird and creepy.

I think when the “theories” are in their infancy, most can brush them off and even laugh about it. The actors might joke about it and even reference it in interviews. But then the theories become bigger, and people become more unhinged and start to cross boundaries. People create explicit art or fanfic and then tag the actors in it. They start fights in comment sections. It crosses a line and its sexual harassment, plain and simple.

Louis point blank says the Larries affected his friendship with Harry, and I don’t blame them for wanting to distance themselves from each other. I agree with Louis, it was super childish to press the issue.

Same with the “Gaylors” who were aggressive in saying she was a lesbian.

There are many reasons why people might stay in the closet. People have a right to keep certain things private. Hounding them for the “truth” shows a serious brainrot in our society. It’s especially disrespectful when the celebrities point blank deny the allegations and the rabid fans double down.

If we want actors to have at least cordial relationships with each other, much less have a friendship, then we have to cool it with the aggressive shipping, especially IRL shipping.

Okay, let's go! It's 2024, and this talk should have been left back at the beginning of Holivia, before we'd even spent two years explaining and practically drawing things out for people.

First of all, anon: behind all this universe that you see, there is a galaxy of events that you don't see! And a lot of people working to ensure that you continue not to know how it happens.

To give you a practical example: if you've ever been to Disney, you may have noticed (and if you haven't, here's a curiosity) that you don't see people taking the garbage out of the garbage cans. I dare you to spend a whole day there and send me a photo of a cleaner doing this task. You won't be able to. Because there is an underground world in the Disney parks, where everything happens: where employees walk, where characters hide, and where everything that Disney doesn't want you to have access to happens. This is done to ensure that your experience is not spoiled and that you don't miss out on the "magic" that happens around you.

The same behavior exists in the world of cinema, in the world of literature, in the world of celebrities. NO ONE, in their right mind or of their own free will, will expose to you what goes on behind the scenes. You don't see the storeroom of a shopping mall, you don't see the work of a printer printing books. And when you do, it's all purposeful, organized and clean.

Now, bringing Mitch's show, which is what you mentioned, anon: it really wasn't planned. By Harry, at least. But it's curious, to say the least, that a circus was set up outside the venue where the show was taking place, just after Miss T arrived. Until then, as far as I know, there were no paparazzi or fans at the door, and if there were, they were few. But it wasn't until she arrived that we suddenly had photographers, separate cars, and people shouting her name.

Now answer me this: how did they know she was there if during the whole concert we only saw pictures of Harry? if she had a performance of her play happening the same night? If they told me there were photographers at the back door only, it would make total sense, after all, that's where Harry came in. It stands to reason, then, that that's where he'd come out. But, for some unexplained reason, some photographers knew that they were going out the front door, which Harry NEVER does, unless - mind this - it was planned. If he doesn't want to be seen for some reason, Harry goes in and out through alternative doors, whether in restaurants, concerts, hotels, or anywhere else.

Just do 2+2 and watch the magic happen. Miss T was anonymous until recently, no paparazzi are stalking her day and night. Not even Harry, a three-time Grammy-winning musician, has photographers glued to him all day. And, really, Jeffrey only needs to make one or two calls to the main agencies so that no one photographs them if that's what Harry wants. Do you know why? Because NO ONE is going to take issue with one of the most acclaimed artists of our time. That's shooting yourself in the foot.

Those photographers were called, just as they were called in Japan. There was a plan for them to be seen leaving together and, for that reason, Harry went out the front door. Otherwise, we would have seen photos of him arriving too, but curiously, we haven't.

And, really, to say that you're not a shipper when the first comparison you make is with the Larries shows that you haven't been here very long. Because this is one of the greatest proofs of a disguised shipper, who tries to defend the indefensible, which is that they do call the photographers when it's convenient. Because the whole scene was pathetic, right? She only showed up there to leave with him through the front door, because public humiliation must be a kink. Her boyfriend didn't want to go to her play because he preferred to see his friend play, even though he's been in the same city where Mitch has performed MANY times. But he thought that THAT day and THAT moment was the right time to go to a performance. So, in order not to miss the opportunity, she set up a quick circus there, went to the venue and got five seconds of attention.

But that's what I always say: the devil works faster, but nobody beats Jeffrey Azzof! If he needs to do something to ensure that his main customer is safe and satisfied, he will. Even if it means releasing photos of Harry walking around NYC alone on the same night.

Okay this whole melissa story imma just summarise here - I don’t get it. Where has this influx of Zarrie shippers come from since lockdown? Hardly anyone believed in Zarry or even took it seriously years ago. Narry was more believable and popular then Zarry ever was (and we all know how Louis reacted to Narry lol) I do not understand it at all. All of the boys in the band were close and touchy with eachother. Zayn was obviously a lot closer to Louis during the entire band era. They even went on trips alone together (in 2013/2014 around when Zarries nowadays claim that Louis and Zayn hated eachother because Zayn ‘stole’ Harry from Louis) like you can just tell these new Zarries do not know their history at all. Otherwise they would know that Zayn was a lot closer to Louis then he was to Harry. I’m tired of them trying change history and make Louis out to be this irrelevant bad guy when if they really looked into everything and not just the odd clips taken out of context they would understand the actual facts. This is how I know majority of them only came around when Harry and Zayn became popular solo artists and just liked and pushed the agenda of Harry and Zayn because they find them attractive and it suits them better then Louis.

Yeah it's exactly what you just said, Harry and Zayn are the "popular ones" and the "hot ones" so they rather exclude Louis from everything just because Harry and Zayn look better together. Anyone but Louis. I think people were just bored as fuck during the pandemic and they decided to make it a thing and bother everyone with it, but it was never a thing. I have so mucn beef wiith myself about this whole larry denial . Let me tell you something. I've been in this random since 2012. That one random time Harry tweeted, and it was like a before and after of a pic of Louis, i was there for that. I was there for them being besties and then acting like they didnt fucking know each other. And i thinks thats what made Larry real for me. Becuase why? Why live with each other and literally have this bromance that had so mucb spotlight and then have to act like you hate each other? The only other reason that i can come up with for having to do that is that they got into a fight, and again thats a murky reasoning. These boys were literally on top of each other. How do you go from that to never even looking at each other. That's crazy to me. Now, I've been a hardcore Larry shipper for years, but i keep it to myself. I see shit online. I've been there for the gfs and all that, and i just mind my business. Why? Because their personal lives are theirs. Would i like to know whether I've been delusional or not all these years? Yes, of course , but they do not owe me that. Lou said the other day in an interview that the only people that understand what they went through are only them 5, and i honestly agree. Who knows what kind of fucked up shit they had to go through? I mean, Zayn left the band and has been mia ever since, apart from releasing music until now, where it looks like he's finally reached a point to be out in public. The truth is we dont know what happened behind closed doors, and maybe we never will, but i think part of being in this fandom is supporting our boys because of their music and talent. Lou should not have to go on stage and talk about how people questioning his son irritates him because, yeah, of course it does. I get asked whether I actually still believe in Larry. The truth? I would like to. But i dont know, i think at this point its like a comfort blanket. Its all ive known and its brings ME comfort. I have no idea if one day itll come out that we were right all this time, in the end all i want is for the boys to be happy and healthy and successful. I love both Harry and Lou and i think fandoms all over need to realize that our idols dont owe us shit about their lives. These are the people who were crying and losing their minds when it was announced that Jimin and Jungkook would enlist together, having mental breakdowns. Can you imagine what would happen if a romantic relationship between Jikook is publicly announced. They won't just implode behind their keyboards this time, that's for sure. Not with the way they've absolutely despised him for years. They will find a way to get closer to Jimin and they will try to cause him physical harm. They might even succeed, and there's a chance it could be fatal.

I do understand your fears and concerns. The way that tkkrs talk and manipulate is scary and serious and they should be taken as legitimate legal threats by bh as well. But I don't think you need to worry about jimin or jks security from them just yet. They make a whole lot of empty threats and are loud on purpose to make themselves feel more important and right than they are, but they really don't have the kind of pull to actually physically harm them that they think they have.

I would recommend to not follow tkkrs and their discourse that seriously as it will only mentally affect you, they thrive off their conspiracies and vileness, nothing can stop them. Bts have a lot of protection around them and more than anything we have no idea what jikook will be like post military and how tkkrs will take it. Maybe they'll get plenty of tkk moments again and will shut up for a while or maybe not. Either way, from one anxious person to another, don't borrow grief from the future, especially grief that is based on far fetched scenarios unlikely to happen.

I think Sheila's feelings about Tudd moving on would stem from their prior marriage (and what was wrong with it lol). I take Sheila's polite statement that they were "at different places in their lives" to mean Tudd was immature and volatile. We know he's prone to angry outbursts... it really sucks to imagine them being directed at Sheila. She still likes him now and wishes him well, so she probably always believed in him/knew he could become a better person through experience—but she also knew it was NOT her responsibility to put up with his shit until then. Sheila's a normal, self-respecting person. She can't be Tuddrussel's mother as well as his wife... luckily, Larry is a freak who enjoys doing just that, lmao!! So I have been an army since 2017 and I started shipping in like 2018-ish and I have an army twt and everything. But on my army twt I only have my army friends who believe shipping is for deranged ppl lol. I have had discussions with them about shipping and they hate shippers because they believe shippers objectify the members in a way. And almost all times I agree, especially when I see fans of other ships like jkk or larry or even jklisa. When I look at these ships, I definitely think that they only look at these ppl as a tool to satisfy their own void. Analysing every single behaviour is psychotic and they need to touch grass honestly.

BUT

I just cannot bring myself to think the same about tk. I like to believe I am definitely a sane tkkr (I know there are tons of delusional tkkrs). I am queer and most of my army friends are queer as well so we do joke about the members being gay and we do joke about tk as well but I will never be able to tell them I like tk (that I ship them). I do think there is something between them. I know I could be wrong and they could just be really close friends. The point is that my shipping has always been a secret in a way. I have never told any of my army friends this. If I did they would definitely think I am total weirdo since I have seen how they view shippers. I don't really have a twt for tk just bts as a whole so I have never really had any tkkr friends as well, I have just lurked here and there.

I wanna ask you do your irls or army friends (who are not tkkrs) know about your shipping? And how do you recognise delusional behaviour in other ships vs when it comes to tk? Cuz for me I could easily spot it other ships but sometimes I am afraid I am delulu when it comes to tk😭

Well, I think there’s a difference between shipping and believing two persons are together. We use the term shipping/shippers for both those things, but it’s not the same although there can be some overlap. To me shipping is something like: enjoying the idea of two people together or thinking two people would be well suited. It does not directly mean that you think those people are actually together though. Believing without shipping is also possible. Personally, I am not a shipper in essence (though i do think Jk and Tae fit together well). When I came into this fandom it was for music, I love to see BTS perform… I still go through performance videos often. When I started to look at more other footage Tae became my bias.. but I wasn’t looking for someone to ship him with.. I rarely do that.. even in my life outside of fandom, I never connect two persons that way. But something about Tae and Jk just started to stand out to me. It was only after that, that I started to look into them more.. and well here I am believing that they might be a couple.

I think the only way to figure out if a ship is real or not is to look into it. Sometimes it’s very easy (the Liskook stuff for instance) and sometimes it takes a few more looks (Jkk, though I have little difficulty with that as well). But the difference between a ship and and a real relationship will always lie in the actual connection between two people. Most of the easily debunkable ships lack in the real connection part. It’s narrated by fans using similar clothes and jewelry for instance.. and other situational stuff. That is also why for some Jkk is harder to debunk, because it is clear that Jk and Jm do have a real close bond. So imo really looking into it (as a whole, within the context of everything around them) is necessary to understand if it’s real or not.

Now this is where you will lose all faith in me 😂 (it’s been good having you around anon!) because I do believe Harry and Louis were once together. I understand if you base your thoughts on that on Larry fandom these days that it all seems very farfetched and crazy. But, during 1d Louis and Harry imo did have that real connection I talked about before. In a way to me that is even more clear than Tae and Jk (their culture is similar to mine, and they were quite obvious). I do not believe they are together now though and probably haven’t been for a while.

We could be wrong about Tae and Jk. I could be wrong about Larry. We all deal with just tiny bit of information about their lives. But I also think it’s kinda crazy to think that two members of the same band cannot fall in love. Why couldn’t they? It is a unique situation for sure, but then again that is kinda why we are all here… we think we’ve spotted something special.

I don’t really speak to my irl friends about this. I’m 41 and for some reason people already find it weird that at this age I’d be a fan of BTS.. so I don’t really wanna let them steal my joy in Tkk. I have some Tkk friends around here who I talk to. And for me that is enough. I think.. that a reason why some of us don’t feel like we can share this is because we are made to feel ashamed of our thoughts. But believing in the love two people have for each other isn’t something we should have to be ashamed of. If anything.. Tae and Jk do love each other.. no matter to what extend that might go.

Omg finally someone else knows about the Charmie ship, I was starting to think it was a fever dream that I dreamt up lol. People always bring up Taekook and Larry as examples of bad shipping practices but Charmies were delusional too. It’s interesting how these problematic ships have specific terminology associated with them/their industry. Larry had a ‘beard’, Taekook had an opposing ‘fanservice’ ship and Charmie had a ‘PR relationships’. Observing the ships of especially higher profile celebs/idols is so interesting to witness because it highlights the patriarch society we live in. Like you mentioned, these ships really display how women consciously/subconsciously hate on other women they perceive to be threats to their ship or fantasy. The enemy of these ships are usually women (Harry+Louis+Timothee+Armie’s girlfriends/wives) or men that they feminize (Jimin). Interesting topic.

You made an interesting observation at the end regarding Jimin. The taekook narrative is different in comparison to other big slash ships because the so called "enemy" has a different gender. For larry or charmie, the woman is the intruder so hating her it's like an automatic response. She's there to disrupt the fantasy and also expose the fantasy at the same time.

Because the result is that the shippers are more interested in actively fetishizing a gay relationship and gay men. They are fascinated with it, although at the same time they apply heteronormative definitions to it. One is the woman with any particular gender stereotypes, the other one is the man, with its own set of gender stereotypes. This is then transposed into the way they write fanfiction, how they draw the couple. They have the obsession with coming out, of praying for their eternal love. Once you see such vocabulary, it makes it all more clear. And then something happens, a woman comes into play and that's a problem. They already have the woman, the feminized version of one of the men in the ship, which is acceptable because it's a product of their imagination and a self insert at the same time.

Now, taekookers are having to deal with a bigger problem. Their biggest threat in their view is in this case a man. That disrupts the fantasy even more. So in order to make it all work, they have to change how they view that man. They need to reduce him, to strip him of his masculinity because his masculinity puts him as equal as those other two men. And him being an equal makes it a threat. Because in the case of taekook where the shippers believe that Tae and JK are in love with each other and that makes them automatically attracted to the same gender, hence gay (I'm just telling how their fantasy works), it means that there is the possibility of Jungkook (never Tae) to be attracted to Jimin. Because he is a man. That's why ships involving Tae/JK and a woman do not pose a "real" threat in the eyes of the shippers. They laugh at it because they truly believe JK and Tae are together. But by believing that, they are also aware, deep down, that Jungkook as a presumably gay man, could also be attracted to another man - Jimin.

So because this is such an unacceptable scenario, they have to femininize Jimin. He cannot be seen at the same level of a gay man as JK and Tae. Hating Jimin in that position would reveal that they can be homophobic and how they mostly fetishize a gay relationship. In turn, Jimin is portrayed as a woman. A woman that can be hated, the type that through the patriarchal conditioning, is seen as a threat to other women. For example, the femme fatale, the seductress, the slut, the whore. All words used by taekookers. Sometimes they latch onto made up rumors in which they return Jimin his masculinity if it involves some woman, or him supposedly becoming a father. But that doesn't happen often. Jimin is also seen as a man who could be gay only when once again, they find another man to ship him with. Be it Yoongi, or his friends in his private life. In both these scenarios, Jimin can be a man and attracted to other men. But the minute he is next to Jungkook, he cannot be that anymore. He is no longer potentially a man with whom Jungkook may cheat, but a home wrecker, which is usually a term used for women. Jimin's feminine qualities which show up in his behavior in a positive sense (he is more nurturing, he is in tune with his emotions, etc) are completely dismissed. He is patriarchaly feminized.

Curious what got you into 1D and how long have you been a fan? Also were you a Larry shippers from the start? Or did something change?

Oh, what a weird story this is... (And it's a long and meandering one, so grab a cuppa, and strap in...) Okay, here goes... Schitt's Creek, or more importantly, Dan Levy and his huge crush on Harry Styles is what got me into Harry & 1D. Like early 2019, Dan had been posting stuff on his Insta- mild thirst content about Harry, and a pic of him in a Harry concert t. At the time, I didn't know who Harry was, so I asked someone in my SC discord. They shared Harry's cover of Juice and I immediately was intrigued... thought he was adorable, had cool style and definitely fell a little bit in love with his super cool chick drummer. I got into all of his music right away, and instantly fell down the Larry rabbit hole of YouTube... Freddieismyqueen, cosmic leeds, etc. It was all over from that point. I did all the deep dives I could on tumblr, read all the master posts etc. Being an older fan, I was very much set on not getting into 1D at all. So I steered clear of their music and all other content. But you can't watch the Larry videos without also seeing all the old 1D funniest moments compilations etc.... and unless you have a heart of stone, it's impossible not to fall in love with those boys, their ridiculous antics and how well they get along together. So I would say I was definitely a Larrie first and then became a fan of their music. It was a domino effect with the music. I allowed myself to like one song and that's it... then one turned into two, and here we are. Although I'm not so much into their really early stuff, I am thoroughly into their last 3 albums. Me getting into One Direction, and more specifically becoming a Larrie in my late 30s, was definitely not on my bingo card, but life has a strange way of working out, doesn't it?

It's taught me a lot, brought me new friendships and opened up my world to writing, and just brought so many other unexpected but positive changes into my life, so I don't regret it one bit.

The most despicable thing about Larries as human beings is their need for “gotcha” moments. They live for them. They will harass everybody and anybody for them. There is no getting away from it. No matter what the question is, no matter what the answer is one of them will twist it to suit their narrative and the rest will go along with it. I read a big larrie account saying today that all of the shippers uas die out and HLD ua keeps going is the biggest Larrie proof. The other UAs are based on real relationships which were formed and then broken. HLD is based on a relationship which is sustained by people’s imagination hence there is never going to be a breakup article about it. The fact that you are then using this as a “proof” and people are buying into it is just dumb but these people have crossed all the limits of decency and they will take pride in harassing anyone who will tell them otherwise. Louis can never win with them, whether he stutters or not.

Louis can’t win with Larries, and Harry Styles will never, ever have the spine to tell them off, because he can’t turn away from the money.

This is already pretty gross, but even more gross is the Larrie fantasy that Louis “takes on the suffering role” for both of them.

Larries’ story of 2023-Harry-and-Louis is the excuse an abuser uses to justify the mental and emotional abuse they inflict on their partners. “It’s voluntary.” “We both consented to it.” “We have a masterplan; you guys just need to stay out of it.” “The abuse goes both ways, but the greatest abuse comes from an unknown and unprovable big entity.” “Of course one of us has to say relationship isn’t what it seems, but you guys know better. Right? 😉” “The person who seems to hold all the power is actually the bigger victim, and guess what? Only you Larries know the truth.”

what these people think they’re talking about is strictly homophobia, and they believe that homophobia is keeping professional athlete men in the closet and forcing them to marry Blonde Skinny White Women who they dont actually love. specifically, they are talking in the world of hockey, which is it’s own specific flavor of deranged nowadays.

okay so say i accept this sweeping generalization that hockey players just date Blonde Skinny White Women- okay well most nhl players are in fact white, and usually people date within their own race that’s just how it is, and statistically they are overwhelmingly likely to be straight as well., and we all know the reason that a lot of men prefer thin women is misogynistic beauty standards, so that’s the reason for that. score 1 for misogyny

im sure there’s great scholarship on why women’s hockey and women’s sports are a haven for gay women to meet eachother and find each other, but i dont know it. but, knowing how SOCIETY UNDER PATRIARCHY EXISTS, its not shocking that a small community that is gender nonconforming would attract queer and gnc women. so, that’s the reason for that.

now to the points related to Shipping - this idea shippers have that their faves are actually stuck in the closet and that straight men are in secret relationships with each other. it’s not anything new per se, but the degree to which people are seriously believing it and trying to actively prove it is new, and the amount of people who seriously believe it is only increasing.

i think it’s safe to say that it is usually young women who take up fandom in this kind of way, who ship men with each other, as has been the case for quite some time. even nb and otherwise gnc individuals flock to fandom, often bc of its imaginative and transformative powers.

i remember being a teenager and wondering why the guys would only pay attention to the Conventionally Pretty girls while also mocking me and trying to take my glasses of without my consent, leaning hard into Not Like Other Girls syndrome, and then unlearning that and realizing my dislike of those girls was bc of internalized misogyny. but the other piece of that is like, the Preferences of the boys (bc of patriarchal beauty standards) and i think that hurt does stick with you for awhile until you do receive some attention of your own.

so, im a little sympathetic to this behavior from the younger set, especially with the world we’re living in right now — women’s rights are actively backsliding, social media and increased beauty standards are harming young girls, boys are watching porn from like age 10 online, maybe even earlier, its not a stretch for a young girl to want to escape into a world where boys are a bit softer, where they are kind and nice and it’s a one sided relationship and you can fantasize all you want and it’s Safe. it’s not a shock that parasocial relationships between girls and whatever famous man du jour happen. that’s a story as old as time, and it’s increasing now just because of the world we’re living in.

the other piece, however, the people who are a bit older who are parroting the qanon shit about how str8 men are in secret relationships: i think it’s time to grow up a bit.

after a certain point, you should know you’re not making any kind of grand statement about society by examining men in this way that hasn’t already been made better by gender studies and queer theory scholars, you’re not fighting for gay rights by inventing things that aren’t there, by making such a big deal out of male friendship that that friendship has to end (a la larry stylinson) … you’re just showing that you havent unlearned your own internalized misogyny and have a severe case of 2010s tumblr brain meets 2020s conspiracy brain. i get wishing men were better, wishing for A Softer World, but you shouldn’t steer that anger toward WAGs and act like you’re doing anything when you use the phrase “wealthy white women” a zillion times in a 'critique' of WAGs.

‘Toxic Masculinity’ is a problem in sports, but it’s one that has demonstrably gotten better over the last decade in my opinion. and it hasn’t gotten better by manifesting straight players to be gay, it’s gotten better by changes within systems and things like pride nights and mental health awareness becoming the norm. i’m sorry if that’s boring, but it’s the truth. instead of admiring positive masculinity — the affection that the guys have for each other, it’s immediately twisted by some into proof for their thesis that x player is gay.

i remember when i learned that the root of most homophobia is actually misogyny, and that has stuck with me — that the root of hatred against gay men is often that they’re seen as effeminiate and weak, one must always be ’the woman’ in the relationship, etc etc. homophobia against gay women is because of their gender nonconformity - they will not submit to the beauty standards, submit to being lesser in a relationship, aren’t making themselves sexually available to men, etc. so how in the hell are you going to fight homophobia by being misogynistic towards WAGs.

of course, there are players in the closet. we know this, statistically there are likely to be some in any league. if anything, knowing they will be scrutinized and looked at under a microscope and shipped with anyone they even come in contact with would probably be a reason for them to NOT come out. we’ve seen the results of speculation over the sexual orientation of more famous celebrity men, usually actors - it’s not cute, it’s damaging. and not because those individual men are homophobic, but because one’s personal life isn’t any one else’s business unless they WISH TO SHARE IT! denial of the existence of a player’s wife or girlfriend is not Fighting for Gay rights or gender nonconformity, it’s just being misogynistic. and if that player turns out to treat that woman poorly, that’s likely because of misogyny too.
