How about an AU where Jon and Gerry have been dating since Uni and have managed to keep it secret from everyone (including Elias and Gerttrude) by complete accident?
send me an au and i'll give you 5+ headcanons about it! requests closed!
by accident you say? 👀
1. jon and gerry meet somewhere completely ridiculous (yet also completely mundane) where the chance of them running into one another was like.... one in a million. like, maybe jon's class got out early and so he decided to walk a little further from campus to try a new coffee shop that he's never tried before and never will again because he realizes he really hates the drinks and that it's not worth the walk, and gerry is in the area looking into something leitner-related and he looks down at his phone a bit too long and runs smack into jon when he's walking away from the coffee shop with a lukewarm travel cup of hot chocolate because they were out of tea (what kind of coffee shop is out of tea? jon thinks with a scowl).
the hot chocolate spills all over gerry and jon's like 'oh god sorry, do you- do you want me to do something?' and gerry's about to brush past him when he sees the person he was looking for and shit, they're looking this way so without thinking he just... grabs jon and pulls him into the nearest shop. which happens to be selling something weird, idk, little ceramic figurines. and gerry does Not know what to say because like, he can't tell this stranger that he's hiding from maybe-a-fear-avatar! so he's like 'uh. you can make it up to me by.... helping me pick out a figurine? for, er. my mother. yes.'
so they're just walking through this shop, gerry's shirt still wet with hot chocolate, jon Very confused and also Very late for class but somehow nervous to just leave, so they look at figurines together. gerry keeps looking back out the window and nope, maybe-an-avatar is still there, and now they're sitting on the bench and it doesn't look like they're planning on moving anytime soon and gerry really doesn't want to take the chance and gamble that the maybe-avatar won't recognize him or realize what he's looking for. so gerry keeps shooting down every recommendation jon gives him with some progressively-more bullshit reasons--'oh, my mum already has that one' 'that one's too expensive, i can't afford it' 'that's too small' 'i don't like the way that one's looking at me' 'my mom's allergic to dogs, actually'--until jon's finally like 'okay what is going on and can i leave now?'.
and the maybe-avatar is still out there and gerry's certain now that they're watching him and he's suddenly very aware that he's spent a long period of time with this guy whose name he actually didn't quite catch and that it definitely looks like they're working together and ah, fuck, if i let him leave and he gets targeted because of me i'd feel horrible. so gerry sighs and thinks fuck it and is like 'listen i'm gonna level with you. i'm here looking for a book and there is somebody watching me right now and i know how that sounds but it's really not as shady as you think and also really not my fault but it is my fault that you're here too so. yeah. sorry i don't know if it's safe for you to leave.'
and all jon can think to say is 'a book?'.
and gerry's like 'don't worry about that bit, you really wouldn't understand' and jon gets all bristly and says primly, 'well, i'm a lit major and i work at the university library maybe i could help' and gerry can't help but laugh and say, 'really hope there's not a leitner in your uni library, mate'. and then jon gets this wide-eyed expression on his face like he's just seen a ghost and says 'what did you just say?' and before gerry can deflect again jon says, more intensely, but also hesitantly, 'is... is it called a guest for mr. spider?'.
and gerry's like 'um. no, it's not' and jon deflates a bit but now gerry's curious and he's like 'why?' and jon tries to deflect like 'oh clearly i misunderstood' but gerry's not budging and he's like 'no, no--have you read a leitner? gold bookplate, super fucked-up consequences?' and jon just goes pale which is really all the confirmation gerry needs. gerry feels the need to clarify that he hates them too--that he burns them whenever he gets the chance.
weakly, jon says, 'there... there's more than one?'. and then, a bit stronger: 'you- you're looking for another one? here? and you're going to burn it?'
gerry: yes, that's the plan. why--?
jon, without hesitation: i want to help
and maybe gerry is hesitant at first but, well. it seems like jon is already fully in this, so he reluctantly agrees, and they hunt down the leitner together and gerry lets jon burn it and then they're friends (and it really doesn't take long at all for that to transition into partners).
2. gertrude and elias missing that they're dating is a comedy of errors, including a lot of rather dramatic near misses including, but not limited to:
- jon always leaves a room just before one of them enters
- gerry always talks ambiguously about the person helping him hunt down leitners; elias always assumes he means gertrude, gertrude always assumes he means his mother. this is exploited to a comedic level
- getrude thinks 'going on a date' is code for gerry having a new lead on jurgen leitner and leaving to go chase it down
- when jon joins the institute as a researcher and runs into gerry in the building for the first time, he greets him neutrally in a mutually-agreed display of professionalism while working. gertrude and elias both remark at the fact that 'it's so nice that jon/gerry has a friend'
- gertrude, opening the door to the break room and bustling around inside, looking over at gerry where he's standing in front of the counter, jon sat atop it with his legs bracketing gerry's hips (they have very clearly just been kissing): oh hello gerard. jonathan. talking about leitners again?
jon, a bit embarrassed, slipping into Ultra Professionalism to compensate: i was just discussing with mr. keay the details of case number 0031211 regarding ms. cortena's experience with the talking vase--
gertrude, not at all interested, already knows that it's fake: right, right, carry on then
*after she's gotten her tea and left*
gerry, holding in laughter: 'mr. keay'?
jon, blushing: shut up gerry
3. gerry, casually, not actually aware that getrude doesn't know that he and jon are dating: yeah so then i had to leave my date early to go chase down this leitner and jon was not pleased
gertrude, after a hum of acknowledgement: how unfortunate. i'm not sure how jonathan's opinion on the matter is relevant, however. was he disappointed that you didn't ask him to track down the leitner with you?
gerry, Confused™️: he was.... at the date?
gertrude: at the date? whatever for?
gerry, now staring openly: because i was on a date with him? because we're dating? wait, did you not know that?
gertrude, not willing to admit that she missed that for nearly three years: of course i knew that, gerard. don't be foolish.
gerry, now even more confused: but--
gertrude, without missing a beat: i trust the leitner hunt went well, then?
gerry, after a long pause: um. yes?
gertrude, nodding: good.
4. there's an institute party and everyone's allowed to bring a plus-one
elias, noticing that jon's alone at the party: ah hello, jonathan. no plus one for you today?
jon: no, gerry couldn't make it, unfortunately. family business.
elias, somehow Oblivious, and also very Old Fashioned and way too familiar with his employees: quite. though typically, plus ones are of the romantic capacity. it's nice that you would consider gerard an acceptable substitute though, i suppose
jon, Bi confusion and suddenly unsure if his boss is homophobic: um. it.... it would have been in a romantic capacity?
elias, still Not Getting It: ah, i see. perhaps for the best, then--office parties don't make for pleasant first dates, in my experience
jon, unsure of how much of his personal life he wants to share with elias but not really wanting to pretend like he's not been dating gerry for going on three years now: um. it- it wouldn't be our first date. or- or really a date at all, just an- an event, i really don't think gerry would call this a date
elias, Getting it a little bit: ah. unfortunate, then. congratulations, i suppose, are in order. was it a recent engagement?
jon, ??????, biting the bullet: we've been together for three years, elias
5. jon, handing gerry a wrapped package on their fourth anniversary after they started dating: this is, um. this is for you
gerry, opening it and holding up the little ceramic figure of a dog: jon. is this--?
jon, in a rush: it's from that shop. where we, uh. where we met.
gerry, overcome with such love he really can't stand it, throwing all of his proposal plans out the window and digging the little square velvet box out of his pocket: jon can i ask you a question--
(jon is so surprised he just starts crying. it's only the fifth time gerry's ever seen him cry and he's so worried he said something wrong at first but then jon manages to say yes around his tears and jon wraps his arms around gerry tightly and buries his face in gerry's shoulder and whispers i love you and gerry hugs him tightly in return and says i love you, too, jon. i love you too.)

“I GUESS I’M JUST A PLAY DATE TO YOU.”
previous ❀ next ❀ series masterlist
𝟐𝟐. kei shouldn’t be allowed to drink either: the spinoff
𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: kicked out of her home with no place to go, y/n is forced to move into her family friend’s home, who coincidentally is also the family of tsukishima kei, the boy who denied her confession.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were already driving Kei crazy and you hadn’t even left your room yet.
You should have left thirty minute ago, but you were still locked in your room supposedly doing your makeup. He could hear your pacing through the wall, so he definitely knew you weren’t still getting ready. You were purposefully avoiding him, but it’s not like you both weren’t doing that anyway. He regretted doing a favor to Kiyoko by driving you to the party. (He had a sneaking suspicion she could have driven you, but she wanted you two to start talking to each other already).
Getting fed up with waiting, he yelled through the door.
“Y/N, are you ready?”
“Uh- Yeah! Just give me a second!”
He sighed in relief, going back to his phone.
Your door slowly creaked open as you emerged from your bedroom.
Kei definitely should have had Kiyoko drive you instead.
He didn’t mean to stare, but it was damn hard to when you looked like that. He didn’t know if he wanted to curse God out or thank him right now for the dress you were wearing. How the hell was he supposed to be in a car with you when he found you, to put it bluntly, hot as fuck?
“Let’s go,” he stated, turning to walk down the stairs.
He hoped you didn’t notice the blush on his cheeks.
To make matters worse, you had been silent the entire car ride, averting your gaze anywhere but him. You couldn’t even look at him, did you really hate him that much?
“Did Yamaguchi ever mention what his plan was?” You asked, eyes still fixed on the buildings rolling through the window.
“No, he said he would handle it.”
“O-Oh, okay.”
What else was he supposed to say? The real topic hung above your heads, but he refused to talk about it as acknowledging it would finally make him realize you were leaving, leaving him. But he knew it would be easier if he could at least brace himself for what was to come.
“So when are you moving out?” He asked, almost wincing as the words moving out left him.
“The end of next week most likely.”
He didn’t realize the time you had left was going to be cut so short. If he had known, maybe he would’ve watched more movies with you in your room, stayed out later when you snuck out for food at 3am, maybe he even would’ve found the right time to tell you he loved you. He would’ve done so much more with you if he knew.
The rest of the car ride was silent, as Kei wished he hadn’t taken the time you were with him for granted.
Kei could already tell the party was going to be a headache the moment he walked in. Terushima had truly outdone himself this time, the party easily could have been mistaken for a full-scale frat party instead of a regular high school party. He guessed MiyagiTea was to thank for that, their promotion had gotten the party to where it was currently.
“Y/N!” A voice called, averting your attention away.
Bokuto emerged from the crowd, with Kuroo, Yamaguchi, and Akaashi in tow. He immediately picked you up into one of his famous spine-crushing hugs, you giggled in response, a bright smile plastered on your face.
He ignored the way jealousy brewed in his stomach despite knowing that you and Bokuto were purely platonic and that Bokuto was more than aware of his feelings for you, and would never try anything. But still, he couldn’t help but be green with envy, wishing you were the one smiling at him like that.
“Nice to see you too, Bo,” You giggled as he let you down.
“And here I thought I’d be the hottest one at this party,” Kuroo sighed melodramatically, “unfortunately, Y/N beat me at my own game.”
“Yes, Y/N does look very nice tonight,” Akaashi chuckled, greeting you with a side hug.
While you were preoccupied hugging Akaashi, Kuroo quipped an eyebrow at him. Kei realized, the motherfucker was purposefully trying to make him jealous.
“You’ll always be the hottest one in my book, Kuroo,” you quipped, punching his shoulder. He grinned brightly, but Kei knew the smile was smug pride, knowing that his little plan to get him jealous was working.
“Please don’t make Kuroo’s ego any bigger than it already is,” Akaashi sighed. Kei was thankful somebody finally put Kuroo in his place (even if they were friends) if it weren’t for Akaashi, Kei probably would have lost it on Kuroo already.
“Tsukki, you can at least pretend you’re enjoying yourself,” Yamaguchi commented.
“I don’t like parties,” he deadpanned. No, more like I don’t like how you’re flirting with Y/N.
“Well, do you like Y/N’s dress?” Bokuto slyly whispered in his ear. If you weren’t staring sheepishly at him, he would’ve strangled Bokuto right then and there.
He thought for a second, about to make his usual sarcastic comment, but the dress you were wearing was living in his head, rent free. His mouth ran dry, and he couldn’t think of anything to say but the truth.
“Yeah, she looks pretty.”
(He thought you looked even better than pretty, but he would’ve killed himself on the spot if he truly voiced what he thought.)
The group fell quiet, all eyes plastered on him as he tried his best to remain calm, as if he hadn’t just complimented you infront of his entire group of friends.
“I’m gonna go find Oikawa and Iwaizumi!” You chirped, breaking the silence. Before anyone could reply, you hurried away as fast as you could on your heels.
“Oh my god, she hates me,” he groaned, burying his face in his hands.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you be nice to somebody, like ever,” Kuroo commented, still stunned at his compliment.
“Much less call somebody pretty,” Akaashi added.
“He really is whipped!” Bokuto cackled, smacking Kei on the back. Kei cringed, hoping nobody heard Bokuto, but it was Bokuto, so it was more than likely.
“I don’t think she hates you Tsukki,” Yamaguchi nervously replying. (Little did Kei know, Yamaguchi was tearing himself apart inside keeping his promise to you.)
“I called her pretty and she ran away,” he grumbled, “I think that’s reason enough to think she doesn’t like me back.”
“You, my friend, need a drink,” Kuroo said, before dragging him off to the kitchen.
The rest of the night, Kei noticed how you dodged and avoided him. You conveniently had to leave the room whenever he walked in, you made an effort to talk to everybody besides him, hell, even his friends got in a proper conversation with you before he could. The alcohol was affecting his emotions more than he would care to admit. Kei was losing hope, the realization you’d never be his settling in much deeper than he thought it would. He wished you were his and much as he was yours.
“Yams, it’s almost 1am and you still haven’t found MiyagiTea, what’s your plan exactly?” Kuroo grumbled, flopped on a nearby couch.
With you heavy on his drunken mind, he forgot the true reason for this party. Despite it being so late, the party was still raging, showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
“I was hoping I would catch them slipping when some drama happened, but nothing,” he fumed. “There’s been 4 fights, 3 breakups, and Terushima even streaked across the lawn to lure them out! They still haven’t shown themselves.”
“Maybe we should give up,” Akaashi sighed, slumping down on the couch with Kuroo.
“No! We can’t just give up! This stupid tea account is what’s stopping Y/N and Tsukki from being together!” Bokuto cried. Kei took a mental note that you and Bokuto were both crying drunks.
“I hate to break it to you, but the reason we’re not together is because she hates me, and I don’t blame her,” he sighed. However, Kei was also a sad drunk it seemed.
“Tsukki, have you tried talking to her?” Yamaguchi asked, as if the solution was obvious. Kei scoffed in response.
“What do I even say? I love you, I’m sorry I’m such an asshole, please love me? It’s pathetic,” he spat bitterly.
“I hate to break up this little feelings sesh, but what the hell is going on in the living room?” Kuroo questioned, drawing attention to the yelling spouting from the other room.
The group stumbled out of the nearby room and into the living room, where the music had stopped and in the center of attention was you and Oikawa. A crowd had swarmed around you, hushed whispers filling the air.
Were you crying?
“Get the fuck away from me!” You spat, holding yourself as to shield yourself from Oikawa.
“Y/N, I swear I can explain-”
“No! I don’t want to fucking hear it!” You retorted.
Akaashi tapped somebody on the shoulder, “what’s happening?”
“Oikawa Tooru is MiyagiTea!”
Kei’s world stopped.
Oikawa was MiyagiTea.
He leaked all the information about you two.
He purposefully hurt you.
All Kei could see was red, every cell on his body was on fire. He shoved past the crowd, not caring who he pushed. Maybe it was the alcohol fueling the flames in his stomach, but all he could focus on was the fact Oikawa had fucking hurt you. You were crying because of him and if that didn’t make Kei go ballistic, nothing else could.
Kei stormed up to Oikawa and punched him across the face.
“Kei!” You shrieked.
All the noises around him drowned out, as he could only hear the blood rushing in his ears as he grabbed Oikawa by the collar and shoved him against a wall.
“I’m going to fucking kill you.”
Kei could practically feel the venom dripping out his voice, wanting nothing more than to make Oikawa regret ever making you cry, but your grip on shirt made him snap out of his rage.
“Kei, stop!” You cried.
Your touch suddenly made him forget his rage. His muscles eased under your fingertips as he let go of Oikawa, who shamefully backed away from you two. He turned to you, your face making his stomach drop.
You looked scared. You were scared of him.
Iwaizumi pushed through the crowd, as well as Kiyoko.
“Iwa, did you know?” You asked, your voice cracking.
“No! God no, I had no idea- I would never-” Iwaizumi began before sighing to stop himself, “I’m going to take Oikawa, he shouldn’t be here.”
“Y/N, let’s go,” Kiyoko whispered, taking your arm. You nodded, wiping your mascara stained eyes.
“Y/N, wait-” Kei called, reaching out to stop you. But Yamaguchi grabbed him, reeling him back.
“You’ve done enough, Tsukishima,” Kiyoko hissed before taking you away.
Terushima emerged from the crowd, grimacing at the state of the party.
“Everybody, there’s nothing to see here!” He announced, “Go back to uh, partying or whatever!”
People awkwardly began to murmur, going back to the party, the music started up again, the atmosphere of the party slowly returning to normal.
“I- I have to see her-” Kei stuttered, the drunken adrenaline wearing off and realizing what he had done.
“Tsukki, she needs to be alone right now,” Akaashi murmured, helping him sit down on a nearby couch. Kei buried his face in his hands, he had fucked up, again.
“How about we get you home?” Yamaguchi asked, rubbing his back.
The boys piled Kei into the car, and drove him home. The alcohol, exhaustion from the party, and the quiet drive home should have been enough to lull him asleep, but the horrified expression you wore plagued his mind on an endless loop.
He wanted to blame the alcohol, but he knew it wasn’t an excuse. Like you said, he would always hurt.
And for the first time in awhile, Tsukishima Kei started crying.

Simply Delicious
A Barisi ficlet for the Archive’s rule of three challenge. The prompt words are: stack of books, salted caramel sauce, pushing.
Barisi’s relationship told through food they share. Warnings: none; except for the food talk.
Word count: 1686
Tumblr media
1. “Hey, Barba.” Sonny paused in the doorway, juggling two deli sandwich boxes and a cardboard carrier with two coffees. He had a messenger bag slung across his body and he was dressed down, in jeans and a hoodie. “I brought some dinner and caffeine reinforcements,” he explained needlessly, holding up the food.
Rafael watched in silence as Sonny crossed the room in half a dozen long strides, placing their dinner on the conference table, and then dropped his bag into the empty chair next to the one he was going to occupy. Rafael nodded absently, distracted by the detective. He was always surprised at how young Sonny looked when he was in casual clothes, despite the silvery strands of hair that threatened to betray him. “What? Did I spill?” Sonny looked down and brushed at the front of his sweatshirt.
“Huh? No, I, uh, sorry, I guess I just needed the break more than I thought.”
Sonny flashed a smile that was all dimples and Rafael wondered if his eyes always sparkled so blue.  “Well get over here, then. We’ll eat and you can take a little break.” Sonny pushed both boxes over. “I didn’t know what you wanted, but you can pick which one you want and I can eat the other.”
Rafael paused in front of the sandwiches. “They both look good.”
Sonny laughed. “Good thing I had them cut in half then, huh?” Sonny took half of each sandwich, piling them on a napkin and Rafael did the same.
“How much do I owe you for dinner?”
Sonny waved a dismissive hand. “Don’t worry about it, you’re doing me a favor.”
Rafael snorted. “You’re giving up your Friday night to help me research. For a case you weren’t even involved in. I think you’re doing me the favor.”
Sonny shrugged. “Yeah, well... law school.”
“How’s that going, anyway?” Rafael asked, taking a large bite from one of the sandwiches.
“Um, good. It’s harder than I thought, with work.” Sonny shrugged. “But it’s almost over.”
Rafael ate while Sonny talked and Rafael found himself intrigued by the younger man’s stories. Sonny’s voice was hypnotic, even with that accent. They talked long after the sandwiches were gone and Rafael actually found himself disappointed when Sonny tossed his garbage in the bin and reached across the table, pulling over the large stack of books so they could both reach.
“Do we have a plan?”
Rafael looked at the mound of motions wrapped in bright blue and rubbed his temple. “I suppose burning these and running away to Cabo is off the table?”
Sonny chuckled, “yeah, probably.”
“Teamwork, then?”
Sonny smiled, “I think that’ll work.”
2. “I’m not one to turn down coffee. Ever. But this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I said I’d buy you a drink to celebrate.” Rafael looked around the small, local coffee shop Sonny had suggested.
“Hey, Barba!” Sonny smiled brightly.  “I, uh, actually I’m on call so I can’t drink tonight.”
“Okay, well first, we’re not at work, so you don’t have to call me ‘Barba’. And we could have done this a different night.”
“Nah. Then the excitement would have been gone.” Sonny bounced on his toes once, then again, but stopped abruptly when Rafael chuckled. Sonny usually had energy to burn anyway, but he’d been riding the high of the adrenaline rush since this morning when he found out he’d passed the bar.  And then Rafael had suggested hanging out, just the two of them, to celebrate and Sonny thought he was going burst.
“Go grab the table over there and I’ll get your drink. What are you having?”
“Oh, uh, my usual. They’ll know.” Sonny waved a hand at the blonde behind the counter before hurrying over to the last open table in a corner of the shop.
Sonny spent a few minutes responding to texts, offering congratulations or condolences to classmates. Rafael joined him quickly, carrying two coffees, and a plate with a large slice of the shop’s specialty cheesecake, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a generous drizzle of salted caramel sauce.
“Thank you, Rafael.” Rafael handed him a fork and they each took a bite, marveling over how delicious the dessert was. It was rich and decadent - the perfect celebratory treat for Sonny’s victory.
“So, how does it feel?” Rafael took a sip of his coffee and leaned in, bracing his forearms on the table.
“Good! I mean, I can’t believe it. The past few months, all I have been able to think about are the questions I didn’t know. I still kind of feel like I’m dreaming, you know?”
Rafael laughed and reached out, gently pinching Sonny on his wrist. “Still think you’re dreaming?” He asked, his hand lingering, touching Sonny’s forearm.
Sonny looked down. Rafael’s hand was soft and warm, and Sonny ached to know how it would feel on the rest of his skin. He swallowed hard and nodded. “Kinda. This is, um, definitely too good to be true.”
Rafael rubbed the back of Sonny’s hand with his thumb. “Well, let’s just see about that.”
3. Rafael opened his eyes slowly and squinted against the bright sunlight, slightly disoriented. The sheets were rough on his bare skin and the mattress was slightly lumpy.  It took a few moments for him to realize he was at Sonny’s place. This wasn’t the first time they had slept together, of course, but it was the first time they had spent the night together.  It had been a long time since Rafael had shared a bed and slept tangled up in someone else - and he had to admit, he didn’t hate it.
Rafael rolled over, expecting to feel the firm body of the detective next to him, and was disappointed to realize he was alone.  He flopped back onto his back and tucked his arm behind his head. He wanted to call Sonny back to bed so he could spend all day cocooned in the other man’s warmth. But he could smell bacon and, more importantly, coffee, so he knew Sonny wouldn’t be joining him anytime soon.
Rafael climbed out of bed, trying to find his clothes strewn about Sonny’s not-quite-messy bedroom. He located everything except his shirt, which he realized was probably still on Sonny’s couch, before heading into the bathroom.  Sonny had left him a towel and toothbrush on the counter. Although he didn’t shower, he brushed his teeth and washed his face and headed out to join Sonny in the kitchen.
His shirt was where he expected and he grunted a quiet greeting as he slipped it over his head.
“Hey, Sleepyhead.”
“Are you always this cheery at seven in the morning?”
Sonny laughed, “Unfortunately yes. I grew up with three sisters and one bathroom. I learned very quickly that I needed to get in there first and the habit stuck. But here. Your own cup of cheer.” Sonny handed him a large mug of coffee and silently turned back to dicing his potatoes.
“Thanks.” Rafael sipped his drink, cradling the mug in both hands. He sat on a barstool, watching Sonny intently.  He chopped efficiently, and Rafael marveled at the uniform cubes of starch, all perfectly bite-sized.
“Wanna help?” Sonny asked, rolling over another potato.  “I mean, you don’t have to,” he added when Rafael hesitated.  It wasn’t that he couldn’t cook, per se, it was just that he was a little clumsy with a knife and he didn’t want to spend his Saturday in the Emergency Room getting stitches.
“I shouldn’t handle anything sharp until after my second cup of coffee.” He murmured, sipping again.
Sonny chuckled as he scooped up a handful of potatoes and tossed them in the skillet. He pulled a batch of bacon out of the pan, laying the slices on a paper towel-covered plate before adding a few more slices to the pan.
“You’re really not a morning person, are you?” Sonny leaned on the counter and draped an arm across Rafael’s shoulders. Rafael grunted again and Sonny laughed, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Tell you what; stay awake a little longer, we’ll have breakfast and then we’ll go back to bed.”
“Back to bed?”
“Yes. We can stay there all day.” Rafael didn’t say anything, but he savored his coffee and smiled.
4. “Don’t. Sonny, please,” Rafael pleaded softly. “I’m begging you.”
Sonny just chuckled as he put one hand in his pocket and slipped the other around Rafael’s waist, pulling him in close. The pair smiled as they took their obligatory pictures behind their three-tiered monstrosity and then Rafael stepped back, shooting another desperate look at his husband. Of all the wedding traditions, this was shaping up to be Rafael’s least favorite.
Sonny grinned playfully and his eyes twinkled with mischief as he grabbed the knife off the table. Rafael rolled his eyes and sighed and put his hand over Sonny’s, helping him cut a neat slice of cake from the middle tier. Sonny put the cake on a plate and took half, pushing the plate towards Rafael. He turned and smiled for another picture, oblivious as Rafael scooped up an obscene amount of buttercream in his fingers.
Sonny turned back. “I love you,” he murmured, reaching out to offer Rafael his bite of cake.   Rafael did the same, his hand hovering near his husband’s face. Sonny obediently dropped the cake in Rafael’s mouth, careful not to get any crumbs on his suit, then grinned. Of course, he had no intentions of smashing wedding cake in his husband's face, but the threat of it was too fun to ignore.
“I love you, too.” An almost wicked smile crossed Rafael’s face as Sonny leaned in for his bite. Rafael caught him off-guard and, before he could react, managed to smear frosting on Sonny’s nose, lips, and chin.
Sonny paused, stunned. “I should have seen that coming, huh?”
“Oh yeah.” Rafael smiled, clearly pleased with himself.
“Sneaky, sneaky. Is that really how we’re starting our marriage?”
Rafael nodded and wiped at Sonny’s face with a napkin. “Happily ever after.”

Choosing Fate: Chapter 4
Helping or hurting? // Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3
A/N: Happy birthday to the best girl ever, Uchiha Sakura!! I also posted a super short one shot yesterday, so consider that an homage to her as well :D
.
.
After the strangeness of living with a new family wore off a bit, Sakura started growing dreadfully bored. She couldn’t think about her parents and siblings for too long without growing teary eyed. The house was quiet most of the time, even when the entire family was home. Even when she tiptoed, she felt like the floors always creaked beneath her feet and she could never achieve the silent grace of the Uchihas.
She tried making small talk with Sasuke but it usually ended quickly and in an awkward silence. It seemed that to him, a good life was a productive life, so he often met her efforts with a cutting, “What are you doing?” If she wasn’t keeping busy, it didn’t seem worth his time or understanding.
The jokes and smiles that flowed so freely in her childhood home were nowhere to be found here. She tried to think of different ways to spend time with him that didn’t include eating with his parents. He was a tough nut to crack. If they had to court each other before marriage, they both would’ve done a terrible job, she thought.
When she found him in their room packing up for another trip with his father one morning — this time, hunting — she offered to go with him, as silly as it sounded. She was just desperate.
But Sasuke didn’t see the point at all and quickly wrote her off, “There’s no need. You would just get in the way. We’re almost ready anyways.”
She bit her lip, “Ah, you’re right. Sorry, I wasn’t sure. Just trying to help. This whole marriage thing is new to me too.” She forced out a laugh.
“Sakura,” he started awkwardly, “I don’t want this just as much as you don’t.” He had paused in his packing and found her wringing her hands with a hopeful expression, but the light quickly dimmed in her eyes after he finished speaking.
What were meant to be words of comfort were interpreted as words of cruelty, words that distanced. “I know you don’t want me, Sasuke,” she said, already exasperated. “But you don’t have to always make it seem that way. You can pretend for a second and be nice to me.”
In a moment of frustration, he spit, “We don’t have to love each other to be married, you know.”
Sakura laughed without humor, “Trust me, I know. You think I want to love someone like you, let alone be married? Like you said, this is as bad as it is for me as it is for you. At least I’m trying to make the best of things.” Everyday, she discovered ways they were different. She didn’t understand him, but she wanted to. He was making it near impossible; they wouldn’t make any progress when she was always being kept at arm’s length.
She marched out of their room quickly and left him to continue his preparations. She didn’t want to cry, and she knew seeing his face would’ve set her off. An apology rested on the tip of his tongue, but his pride held it back.
He felt a strange sense of guilt settle in the bottom of his stomach when she still sent him off with a perfectly made bento.
.
It had been two weeks since Sasuke returned from the hunting trip and things were icy between him and Sakura. She was always polite, but she wasn’t extending herself the way she used to. Even if he knew he could find the answer through introspection, he wondered what was wrong with her. The house felt dimmer than ever.
Their little argument faded into the background when new and more important issues needed to be addressed. What Mikoto originally waved off as spring allergies eventually revealed itself to be a nasty flu. “It’s all the pollen in the air, you know,” she insisted even after her first attempt at speaking was cut off by a bout of coughing. Where Sasuke was panicked and uncertain, Sakura was calm and composed — the water to his fire.
Sasuke admired how Sakura never left her bedside and cared for her when he couldn’t. He was surprised, even, that she would dedicate so much time to someone who, while friendly with her, was still a bit of a stranger. It would’ve been more convenient to call a doctor, but Sakura claimed she had it under control. His father, stoic as ever, still proceeded with all their plans. Even Itachi and Izumi were forbidden to visit lest they catch the same flu and spread it around. “She has Sakura,” Fugaku said matter of factly when Sasuke expressed concern over leaving Mikoto alone. They set out on a scheduled trip, taking care to wash up, but trusting Mikoto in Sakura’s hands.
When Sasuke was at home, he still left it to Sakura as she proved to be far more capable than him. Her hearty soups and cups of tea were always heated to the perfect temperature. She washed the bedding often, making sure her mother-in-law was always as comfortable as possible. She carried a heavy bucket of water into the room to keep a damp cloth on Mikoto’s forehead without spilling a drop. She even ordered Sasuke to go to the market and buy a specific herb that was nowhere to be found in their kitchen.
Upon returning, he found her asleep against the foot of the bed. He felt bad that he had to wake her up, but he had no idea what to do with said herb. He felt, in a word, useless. But Sakura roused easily and thanked him as she blinked the sleep away. He watched as she expertly ground it into a fine powder, adding it to another cup of tea. Sasuke made a note of the process; next time he would let her sleep.
Anyone who displayed so much care for his mother was worthy of praise, he decided.
He caught her in the backyard enjoying the brilliant sunset and a bit of fresh air after she deemed Mikoto healthy again, a week later. “I wanted to say thank you for taking such good care of her,” he started. “She always wanted a daughter, and I know she was sad when Itachi and Izumi moved out. Both my parents felt that way, really. She was very happy when it was decided that you would move in so soon after.” He didn’t really know why he was telling her all of this — in fact, it was probably the largest amount of words he’d ever said to her — but it felt like he owed her now more than ever.
Sakura laughed lightly, “Well, I’m glad at least one person was happy I came here.” It really was reassuring, she had felt like an intruder for so long. Honestly, Mikoto was lovely and Sakura would willingly help her anytime. The circumstances of them living together were just a little unfortunate. Sasuke responded very seriously, “It’s not just her who appreciates it.” She, in spite of all her annoying tendencies, was growing on him. When he noticed the pretty blush dusting her cheeks, he quickly changed the subject. He really didn’t want to explore the implications of his words or her reaction.
“How did you even know what to do?” Sasuke asked bluntly.
Sakura laughed again, and Sasuke still couldn’t help notice the way the fullness of her pink cheeks made her eyes crease at the corners. Such a useless piece of information, yet he couldn’t look away. “I have so many siblings, someone is always sick. We usually couldn’t afford an actual doctor, so it was always up to me to figure things out.” Sasuke nodded and looked out into the yard. None of the grasses or plants were quite the color of her eyes.
He found himself thinking she’d make an amazing mother. He had been praised for his looks his whole life, and he took after his mother. He knew if their child took after Sakura, they would be beautiful.
He headed back inside when he noticed his heart rate speeding up. He tried convincing himself that maybe he was just getting sick too.
.
After Mikoto made a complete recovery, she set out to visit her friends and family that had been kept away by Sakura’s orders. And once again, without someone or something to attend to, Sakura only felt trapped inside the house. The chores she used to despise growing up were ones she now wished she could pass the time doing. Was her father minding his back in the fields? Were her mother’s joints hurting with the change in the weather?
Sasuke noticed Sakura staring out the window, looking terribly bored and melancholy on more than one occasion. He finally found the time to stop and talk to her, something he knew he should do more often.
“What are you doing?” He had something to give her, but was she..busy?
“I want my life back,” she stated dully while continuing to look out the window.
He sighed. She didn’t even try to sugarcoat it. Their marriage wasn’t his choice, but he was beginning to feel like some of her misery was directly a result of his neglect. And he didn’t like the way that weighed on him. “I’m not a thief,” he answered simply before placing a thick book on the table next to her, titled A Beginners Guide to Medicine.
He had never seen her eyes so bright.
.
Sasuke took it upon himself to tutor Sakura from that point on. Even if they weren’t yet suited to being husband and wife, they didn’t have to ignore each other’s existence. Tutoring her gave him a goal, it helped orient their relationship. And she was an excellent student: diligent and hungry for knowledge.
He discovers that there are gaps in her education, from times when she had to devote herself to helping in the fields or raising her siblings. He had always thought of being educated as a binary: either you are or you aren’t. She hardly seemed embarrassed, rather she was more determined to catch up to Sasuke’s level. He admired her impetus and found himself regretting taking his school days for granted. He couldn’t help but think the village would have been a lot more prosperous if someone like Sakura had been allowed to put her mind to solving its problems.
Sakura grew to admire Sasuke, just a little bit. He was a strict teacher, but a knowledgeable and clear one. She had his full attention for once, and his intensity was impressive.
She privately decides to accept the book and his teachings as a birthday gift.
.
.
A/N: I wanted to draw parallels to Sakura taking care of Sarada, and provide some sneak peeks into how Sakura gets into medicine in this AU. Also anyone catch the New Order reference?? Haha superheated is one of my favorite songs ever, so I just wanted to throw something in when I got the chance. There’s a lot packed into this chapter, hopefully it was ok! Sakura please tell everyone to stay home and flatten the curve :(

As promised, my analysis/opinion/thought piece on today’s MUWFC game vs Spurs. Everything is chronological which I feel like should go without saying but in the interest of clarity 🤷🏽‍♀️ but not everything is tagged to the minute cause I am an idiot that didn’t realise that that would be helpful til like the 2nd half. Also, if I missed anything, or got players mixed up or anything pls lemme know and I’ll edit accordingly! I’ve never really done any from of sports based writing before (I don’t think tweets count lol) so pls be nice, merci 😘
Line up as follows, I guess this is pretty common knowledge but you know, coherency and such.
Tumblr media
Tbh it was kinda hard to see *a lot* of this game, especially on the far side of the pitch and by both goals because of the weather, felt like I was watching Silent Hill for a little while there, but I did my best. My wifi is also horrendous atm, and we all know that the FA Player can be problematic so there’s a very good chance I might have missed something due to a lag or buffering btw. Just drop me an ask if you notice anything that mightn’t be quite right, and I’ll fix it asap! Some ~analysis~ (if you could call it that lol) is more detailed than other bits cause there was a lot happening and today I learned that it’s kinda hard to write one thing and watch another at the same time lol
First half:
Quick, fast and almost successful start. A much-needed improvement on the stagnancy vs Bristol a few weeks ago, and obviously we couldn’t see the midweek game vs Brighton so I can’t compare them.
I have to say I’m not a massive fan of all the back passes, all the time. I think a more attacking FB might be needed in the summer, or maybe Ökvist should be given some time to acclimatise to the WSL soon? I was never the biggest fan of Harris last season, I personally don’t think she’s fast enough – she gets outpaced down the flank by attackers 90% of the time, which isn’t good. I think A. Turner is the strongest FB option currently, at least defensively, and she’s shown she has a decent attacking ability, and has a wicked long ball, as well as crossing. My only issue is sometimes those tackles of hers can be a liability, giving away unnecessary fouls. It’s almost like she doesn’t think before she flies in sometimes, which is a shame, cause I love them. A lot.
There were a couple of really good chances in the first half, including a great ball in and run up from Galton, which should have resulted in probably the opening goal but whether it was as a result of the weather or just misjudged timing and placement from both Ross and Sigsworth, the chance went to waste. Groenen had an excellent chance to net her first for United but unfortunately sent it just wide. Another glorious link up between A. Turner and Galton led to another decent chance, a gorgeous cross in from the right to the opposite side of the box, and the perfect header which unfortunately was aimed straight at the keeper. Very unlucky to head in at the break with nothing.
There was an incredible double save from Earps around halfway through the first half. I have to say, I have some anxieties with her sometimes. She is quite good, but has a tendency to make some silly mistakes, and doesn’t always make the right call for a save. But my god she was on her game today, even if a potential error might have led to the first save. Didn’t disappoint me anytime she was called on this afternoon.
A few frustrations started to show around the 30 min mark, a few sloppy passes and challenges making the rounds. It was also around this time that I realized I’d picked a pretty poor game to start this thing on because I could barely see anything.
Zelem seems to be back in form, which can only be a good thing. But I would very much like it if somehow she could drag some of the other girls back up with her.
There were a fair few soft calls going Spurs way, which I wasn’t entirely convinced by. But then again I’m probably just naturally biased towards my girls.
Another great ball in to Sigsworth from A. Turner which was just *chefs kiss* but unfortunately came to nothing. There was also a spin move either to commit or avoid a challenge, I couldn’t really tell tbh, which was very impressive, as was her chase down on Mitchell at around 43 mins. (Amy’s my favourite player, can you tell?)
Booking for Kirsty Smith just before half time, but I gotta be honest I couldn’t see it due to the fog, so I have no idea what happened. Couldn’t find anything about it in the United post-match report either so apparently we’re just deleting that from the history of the earth which is completely fine by me to be honest.
Second half:
My main takeaway from this game is that both Sigsworth and Ross always seem to be looking for the same ball in the penalty area, and there very rarely seems to be anybody else around looking for a potential rebound. I think that James (who missed today’s game due to suspension) seems to be our main (only?) front line creator and finisher; Sigsworth is fine, that girl works like a dog and always gets the job done, I think she may have just needed another goal to boost her confidence, but I have no real concerns with her. Ross, however, I’m not entirely convinced by, I think a lot of her finishes have been a bit lucky and flukey so far. I’d start Toone over her for the rest of the season to be honest, Ross hasn’t done anything that tells me she deserves the starting place. Feel free to disagree with this of course, this is just my own personal opinion.
56 mins – confusion has entered the chat. McManus ends up pretty much through on goal, and then the ref whistles for what I assumed to be an offside. So naturally I nearly kicked my laptop out the window. The ref then awards a United penalty, and I’m even more confused now than I was in the beginning. I genuinely didn’t see anything but did hear a few shouts from what I’m assuming was the United bench for handball, so I have no idea what happened here.
‘58 – GOAL. Who else? God bless Katie Zelem is all I’m saying.
‘61 – Hanson 🔁 Ross. I think this was a good swap. I don’t think Ross was particularly good today, and Hanson immediately sparked that RW. I would have subbed Ross off sooner but that’s my only issue.
’64 – GOAL – Sigsworth with a pretty perfect if slightly scruffy strike from a corner.
Tumblr media
A much better corner than previous attempts, and Spurs hadn’t defended any of them particularly well. I think that we have a major issue with set pieces, I dunno what exactly the problem is, whether they need to allocate a new taker or whatever but before today had we scored from a corner all season? Lemme knowwww.
’65 – A few decent chances for Spurs around this time. One pretty clear run in from the right, and one or two shots bounced right of the crossbar and the post. Basically my heart stopped for about 8 mins.
’66 – I DO NOT WANT TO SEE BACK PASSES IN THE BOX AS OPPOSITION PLAYERS SWARM IN. CLEAR IT. I DON’T CARE WHERE IT GOES JUST GET IT OUT. (sorry for the caps but my anxiety was out in force this afternoon)
United started playing much better after both goals, think they just needed a kick up the arse. *Ahem* A confidence boost. 👀 Much better intensity for the final 30 mins than the previous 60 imo.
’68 – Another decent chance for Spurs, with Earps coming way too far off her line than sat right with me. Very lucky nothing came of that.
’69-72 – Around this time I started to get *very* confused between Amy and Abbie cause they both had yellow boots on and literally the only thing I could see on the far side of the pitch was feet. That was fun.
’73 – The wasteful corners made a return. Slightly less panicked about that one considering we were already 2-0 up but still, I would like to see the glaring set piece issue sorted asap thanks girls x
’75ish – Toone 🔁 Groenen. Man I love Jackie Groenen. She really has been immense for us so far, and there’s a definite difference in how we play without her.
’78 – Harris 🔁 M. Turner. I’ve said my piece about Harris above but man, can we take a second to appreciate Millie Turner. She never, ever stops. Literally the heart of our defence.
Tumblr media
’86 – GOAL – Oh captain, my captain. Beautiful strike from a free kick just outside the box, with the perfect bend around the wall and subsequently the keeper to make it 3-0.
United were very obviously stronger in the second half, almost looked like a completely different team at times. Whether they just got the hairdryer treatment at the half (I would imagine Casey is terrifying when she’s mad.) or the goals gave them that spark they desperately needed to kick on, they definitely made up for all the missed chances in the first half.
’90 – 4 additional minutes.
’92 – Another United free kick. McManus found herself almost clear in (again!), but due to an unlucky fumble with the ball at her feet unfortunately nothing came from this one. Surely a 4th goal otherwise.
’93 – FIIIIIIIIGHT. Kinda. You love to see it. Spend a little while conducting some, scientific research 🌚 and have concluded that Toone was tackled from behind just as the ball left her feet, which led to the ~scuffle~. Have to say that Amy walking away with Ella was extremely 🥰🥰🥰 (This is my research - https://twitter.com/48hours8/status/1218896406020349953?s=21)
’94 – Red card for Tooney. I would assume for her reaction more than anything but the camera didn’t catch it so I guess we’ll never know. I would have thought a yellow would suffice, considering that’s all the Spurs player in question received, but apparently not. 🤔 I’m still kinda confused tbh.
’95 – Full time.
Thus concludes what was certainly an interesting match. Please enjoy this comparison of United vs Spurs chaotic energy from @danieljamesmufc
Tumblr media
Also thanks for reading if you got this far, it’s a bit stop-starty and clunky cause I just wrote down thoughts and whatever as they came into my head and then pieced it all together later on. I also just wanna say that I was massively impressed with Smith today. She hasn’t had many chances to prove herself this season, but that combo of herself and Galton down the left was lethal today imo. 🔥
Some extra thoughts:
I’m not a huge fan (like, at all) of fans singing men’s orientated chants. Let the women’s rivalries develop on their own, in their own way, and don’t drag the vulgarities across! That said, I do think that particular group of United fans has the potential to be a very, very good thing.
Also, just wanna say that these are my girls, and I would die for every single one of them. None of my criticism is meant to be intentionally negative, I just tried to be as objective and realistic as possible, without being a fangirl lol. Even my faves aren’t immune to criticism unfortunately.
And this picture is now my favourite thing ever to exist

- Spin the bottle
~Pairing: Choi Hyunsuk x Reader
~Warnings: Angst///Fluff
Quick summery :
In which Choi Hyunsuk is the schools delinquent and your known to be the one who never does anything wrong.
You both admire eachother from afar but despise eachother up close, or at least one of you do
A game of spin the bottle might change everything for them, but will it be for the better or for the worse?
Tumblr media
Chapter 1:
Choi Hyunsuk ran through the hall as he planted a prank somewhere, again. ‘Troublemaker’ would be an understatement of what he actually is. You heard a deep voice that was shouting “CHOI HYUNSUK!” as ice cold water was dripping off of him, the voice belonging to the one and only Lee Byounggon.
Water seems as a light prank doesn’t it? That’s because Byounggon and Hyunsuk are bestfriends and hyunsuk didn’t want to prank him too badly. He considered both water or orange juice, but decided juice would’ve been too cruel since it would stick for the rest of the day.
As Hyunsuk was running through the hallway, away from Byounggon, he bumped into you.
When he bumped into you, you lost you balance and fell to the ground. “Watch where you’re going, asshole.” You scowled, not knowing who pushed you to the ground as you didn’t look up.
“Oh I’m sorry your majesty, I didn’t know this hall belonged to you.” Hyunsuk said sarcastically, as he tilted his head down to look at who he had pushed to the floor.
You quickly tilted your head up as you recognised that voice immediately “Choi Hyunsuk the school’s delinquent.”
Hyunsuk scoffed. “Y/n, the school’s princess”
“Excuse me?” You hissed, looking offended.
“Cute” the elder thought to himself as he let out a slight chuckle. “Sorry princess, can’t talk, I’m being chased. bye!”
“Hyunsuk I swear to g-“ Byounggon shouted, turning around the corner as he sees you on the ground. “Y/n? What are you doing?” He asked questionably.
“I’m cuddling the floor” You said, sarcastically. “What does it look like I’m doing?” You snapped. “More importantly... why the hell are you soaking wet?”
“Hyunsuk that sly short bean, that’s why. I was on my way to strangle him.” He said, motioning his hands into some kind of strangling position.
You got up from the ground, removing the dirt off your clothes. “Oh! So he was running from you, he went that way.” You said, pointing your finger in direction Hyunsuk went. “Why do you even put up with him?” You asked, not understanding why one of your close friend is best friends with someone like that.
“We’ve been friends since childhood, I’m used to this.” He said, squeezing the water off of his T-shirt that is soaking wet. “He’s actually not bad belive me!”
You snorted in disbelief “sure.”
“Anyway, gotta go strangle that pretty face for embarrassing me infront of everyone, see ya later, y/n!” Byounggon said as he ran off again.
“He does have a pretty face” you thought to yourself.
As you were putting some books in your locker Seunghun popped out of nowhere, startling you of course. “Damn Seunghun stop doing that, jeez!”
Seunghun grinned. “Sorry... but not really. I wanted to ask you if you wanna come over to my house after school? I’m allowed to invite some friends over for the weekend and it’s friday today so...wanna come?” He asked.
“Of course I’ll come, count me in.”
“Yeyyy! I’ll introduce you to some of my friends that you don’t know, tonight. You’ll get along with them really well, I’m sure!” He says enthusiastically. “See you tonight!” He added, waving his hand to me and headed off to his next class.
[ At Seunghun’s house ]
You arrived a tad bit later than everyone else since you had some after school tasks to do, which held you back.
You rang the doorbell as Seunghun went to open the door. “Ah, finally you’re here!”
“Sorry, had some tasks I had to take care of first.” You said, smiling apologetically.
As you both walked into the living room, Seunghun introduced you to his friends. “Of course you already know Byounggon, so I’d like you to meet Yedam, Doyoung, Jihoon and Junkyu.” He said as he pointed to each one of them when saying their names.
“Nice to meet you all! My name is y/n” You said, smiling widely while slightly bowing.
“Ohhh!! So you’re y/n! Nice to finally meet you.” Junkyu said loudly.
You raised your eyebrows, looking at junkyu with a questioning face.
“Don’t mind him, he’s always this loud. Another friend of us has mentioned you a few times, that’s why he’s this hyper.” Yedam said smiling.
“Yeah! He’s right though, you’re really pretty hyung.” Doyoung blurted out while studying your features.
Yedam and Junkyu nudged the youngest, who’s standing between them, signalling him to shut up before his words get them killed.
They were saved by the bell as the bell rang. “Finally he’s here.” Seunghun sighed as he left to open the door.
“Yeet, Hyunsuk has arrived.” Hyunsuk said to Seunghun as he stood in front of the front door.
“About time.” Seunghun sighed.
“Sorry Seunghunnie, I was stuck in detention.” Hyunsuk replied, rubbing the back of his head while smiling innocently.
“What did you do now?” Seunghun sighed, again.
“Pulled an ice bucket prank.”
“On who?”
“Byounggon.” He snorted. “He betrayed me and sold me out to the teacher.” He said, shaking his head as he took off his shoes and joined the others in the living room.
“Serves you right for embarrassing me infront of everyone.” Byounggon scowled.
“You mean in front of the girls.” Hyunsuk winked at Byounggon teasingly.
“YOU LITTLE-“ Byounggon started but was cut off by Seunghun.
“Okayyy! Shut up both of you!” Seunghun yelled and he started introducing everyone to Hyunsuk. “Y/n, this is Choi Hyunsuk.”
Your eyes widened as you saw him.
“Oh well well well, if it isn’t your majesty.” He said sarcastically smiling, and then turned to look at Seunghun. “Seunghunnie, you didn’t tell me you were friends with little princess over here.” He whispered, grinding his teeth.
“My name is y/n, thanks.” You hissed.
Hyunsuk rolled his eyes and sighed. “Nice to meet you, y/n” he smiled.
“Not so nice to meet you, Hyunsuk.” You scowled.
“You can at least pretend to be nice.” Byounggon whisper shouted for everyone to hear which made Hyunsuk smirk, letting out a small chuckle.
“Yeah, what exactly did I miss? How do you two know eachother?” Seunghun asked questionably.
“Everyone knows him.” You said.
“We go to the same school?” Hyunsuk said sarcastically but blunt.
“Point taken.” Seunghun said bluntly.
“I despise him.” You scowled.
“Aww, I feel honoured.” Hyunsuk said sarcastically, slyly smiling.
“You should, honestly. I don’t think she actually despises you.” Junkyu said dryly, stuffing food into his mouth.
“Why do you despise him again?” Byounggon asked as he doesn’t recall a reason behind it.
“I despise his behaviour and so I despise his entire existence.” You said
“And here I thought you two would get perfectly fine.” Seunghun sighed. “Anyhow, since I don’t have enough bedrooms for 8 people we gotta pull straws to decide who gets to sleep together in a room.
Time to reveal which number each one of them pulled out.
Room number 1: Yedam, Junkyu and Doyoung.
Room number 2: (Seunghun gets his own room since it’s his own house)
Room number 3: Jihoon and Byounggon.
Which leaves...
Room number 4: Y/n and Hyunsuk.
“Oh you gotta be kidding me.” You glared at Hyunsuk.
“Great... I’m stuck with princess.” Hyunsuk glared back at you.
“We should play a game!” Doyoung suggested, releaving the clearly visible tension hanging around.
“What about spin the bottle Truth or Dare?” Byounggon added.
Everyone was fine with playing the game and surprisingly found an empty bottle laying around. Doyoung the youngest, began the game as he spun the bottle and unfortunately it landed on you and you chose ‘Truth’
“Y/n what’s the real reason behind you despising Hyunsuk hyung? I mean... he’s actually really nice.” Doyoung asked with a little smirk, which made you glare at him.
Everyone turned their attention to you, all wanting to know exactly why. “There’s no reason behind it, I just really dislike his behaviour, especially at school.”
As you spun the bottle, it landed on the one and only Hyunsuk. Who also chose ‘Truth’ since he doesn’t want to risk doing a dare if you’re the one giving him the task.
“I’m actually kinda curious about this so I’ll just ask now, why the hell do you keep calling me ‘princess’ or ‘your majesty’!?” You asked annoyed.
“There’s no reason behind it, I just like annoying you with it.” He answered, slightly smirking. “Also sometimes you act like you’re royalty.” He muttered rapidly. receiving a glare from you.
As everyone was playing spin the bottle and since the bottle wasn’t landing on you anytime soon, for some reason your eyes kept wondering over to Hyunsuk “fix your hair it’s getting messy!” You informed since it started to annoy you with a little strand of hair sticking up.
“Ah whoops, thanks.” Hyunsuk giggled with an adorable smile on his face while fixing his hair.
“Why is my heart racing and why the hell do I keep staring at his oh so beautiful face” you thought to yourself.
An hour passed by as they decided this would be the last game. It was your turn to ask Doyoung a question since the youngest had chosen ‘Truth’
“Doyoung when we met a few hours ago you all seemed to know my name? My question is how? I know it’s not Byounggon or Seunghun since they would never say I look pretty.” You asked curiously, wondering who the hell talks about you.
Doyoung was speechless, wide eyed and probably about to cry. He’s gonna he killed is what he thought to himself as he felt two eyes glared at him through his skull. He asked himself how the hell you even remembered that.
“H-hyunsuk hyung.” The youngest replied anxiously.
You felt your heart skip a beat at the sound of Hyunsuk’s name to that question. Hyunsuk talks about you? Why? When? How? You just sat there stunned.
“Hyunsuk hyung, please don’t kill me! I didn’t do it on purpose!” The youngest says, begging for forgiveness.
Hyunsuk went over to Doyoung and patted his head. “I won’t kill you, Doyoung.” He turned around, walking towards you “You! Don’t overthink. I just find you cute that’s all.” He said as he ruffled your hair.
“A-am not cute!” You scowled while removing Hyunsuk’s hand from your head.
Hyunsuk chuckled “Aww you’re blushing. Adorable!”
You was mentally going crazing. What is this feeling your feeling and why are you feeling it for the person you despise the most? “S-shut up!”
The others just kindly say back and enjoyed the scene.
Not long after that it was time to go to sleep.... To be continued...

Ranking the Songs Nominated for Best Original Song at the 2019 Oscars
article by Mark McGreal
With the 91st Academy Awards fast approaching the movie world is abuzz. Questions are being posed such as “What will the awards looks like without a host?” and “Which film is going to win best picture?” and “Is the person who wins for sound editing REALLY going to talk for 5 minutes?!?!?”. While we won’t know the answer to any of these question until February 24, it’s always fun to do a little guessing, ranking, and arguing.
The Best Original Song category has five nominees that each have a shot at the little golden man, and, since it takes about 20 minutes to listen to all of them versus the approximately 20 hours it takes to watch all of the Best Picture nominees, I’ve decided to give you my prediction on which song will be taking home Oscar gold later in the month.
It should be noted that none of these songs are bad. Even the worst Oscar-nominated song is better than a fair amount of songs released in any particular year. Its like ice cream. Vanilla is no one’s favorite ice cream flavor, but it beats garlic flavored ice cream by a mile. It should also be noted that I’m ranking these songs based on my own opinion, tastes, and gut feelings after listening to the songs. You might have a different opinion, I just happen to be a writer for a blog. So, without further ado, coming in at number five is.....
5. The Place Where Lost Things Go (Mary Poppins Returns)
I’d like to start by saying that I absolutely adore Emily Blunt. She’s a terrific actress, funny in interviews, and her husband was on The Office. Oh yeah, and she’s an excellent singer. She previously appeared in Into the Woods (2014) where she showed off her pipes as The Baker’s Wife. She does a great job with this song as well, showing off her range and ability to carry a show tune. Overall, her performance was good. The song itself is the problem. It’s slow, methodical, and a little boring to be honest. Blunt does her best with it, but unless you have children or an unbridled passion for musicals, you probably won’t be bumping this song on your car’s stereo anytime soon.
4. When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs)
Full disclosure, I fully expected to hate this song. I can’t stand country music (apologies to any of you country fans reading this). I don’t like the genre and I’m not a big fan of westerns in general. This, of course, is not your ordinary western. The newest Coen Brothers film is a Netflix original and has been getting rave reviews. The film itself is built like a six-part anthology, following different stories in the old west. The song is very country. It's slow, the singers have the trademark twang to their voices, and the acoustic guitar is prevalent, but the lyrics are poignant and the song has a certain intrigue to it. Extra points were given for Tim Blake Nelson’s performance on the song. Nelson plays the eponymous character and is probably best known for his role Dr. Pendanski in the Disney classic Holes.
3. I’ll Fight (RBG)
Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson collaborated with ten-time Academy Award nominee Diane Warren to create the theme for the documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman ever elected to the Supreme Court. The song is an anthem for those people who feel oppressed or overlooked, and Hudson’s performance gives the song so much power and nuance. In another year, it might have won Warren her first Oscar. Unfortunately, the category is just too strong this year, and it appears Warren will be 0 for 10 in the Oscar Category.
2. All the Stars (Black Panther)
First off, I’d like to say that it’s good to see a comic book movie receiving nominations for major awards that don’t have to do with visual effects. As a proud nerd and comic book geek, I appreciate the representation. The song has received a decent amount of radio play, SZA’s voice is excellent and Kendrick lays down another top-notch verse. The song does get a bit repetitive as it goes on, and the beat can be a bit annoying as it continues over and over, but it is one of only two songs being played at the awards this year so that has to count for something.
And that brings us to number one. And the Oscar (probably) goes to....
1. Shallow (A Star is Born)
Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut and Lady Gaga’s first lead role in a film coincided to deliver an above average remake of a classic film. Yes, I say above average. The movie isn’t great. The characters are semi one dimensional and if you pay close attention to the background for the first 5-8 minutes of the movie, you can guess the ending. It’s an okay film that is nominated for best picture because of its song. Shallow is great. Bradley Cooper is a surprisingly decent singer, and his performance should be commended. But Lady Gaga. Wow. Of course, I knew that she had singing talent, but the things she does with her voice are unbelievable. She and Mark Ronson put together a spectacular song that played into both her and Cooper’s strengths. Her vibrato is unmatched, and I think she deserves this award more than any other candidate in the field. (Side Note: bet anyone and everyone you know that she is going to burst into tears when she wins. She does it every time without fail. It’s like she doesn’t realize she’s talented.)
And that wraps up the list. Tune in ABC to watch the Academy Awards on February 24th at 5 pm.

An inside look at the Key Collector Comics mobile app, one of the most innovative tools to be introduced for comic fans, collectors, retailers, and industry professionals, to-date!  Founder, Nick Coglianese,  gives us a peek inside, plus details regarding the recent partnership with Valiant Comics, and the confirmation of  partnership with Coffin Comics and the biggest update yet!
‘The Origin of a Better Comic Book Collecting Experience Starts Here!’
Key Collector Comics hosts over 7,000 key issue comic books extracted from the Golden Age of the 1930’s to today.  The Key Collector Comics Database© is a concise and comprehensive resource that isolates issues of significance from the clutter of uneventful comics.
Additionally, the Key Collector Comics mobile app is equipped with a simplified price guide to help you make informed purchases without being an expert in grading the condition of a comic.
Having the ability to catalog the issues you own and create a wish list of the issues you want makes the Key Collector Comics app the only thing you need to build a legendary collection.
‘The Man Behind Key Collector Comics, LLC, Founder – Nick Coglianese’
This is how the Key Collector Comics app is described on the Key Collector Comics website,  and due to my personal experience with the application, easily locating key issues, such as the first appearances of Moon Knight and Gwenom, for example, I found the Key Collector app extremely useful.
I decided to seek out the man behind the application and found myself speaking with its founder, Nick Coglianese, and after using Key Collector, being totally blown away by its functionality, and ease of use, I knew I had stumbled upon something that added value to my life, my collection, and it is totally free!  I thought it selfish to keep it to myself, thus finding it necessary to share our conversations with comic fans and industry professionals!
I asked Nick to tell me about himself and what led to the mobile app, and what follows is the story behind Key Collector Comics.
Nick:  “I’ve been collecting comics since 1989.  Like all kids, I’d imagine superheroes appealed to me, but it was when Tim Burton’s Batman came out in 1989, when I got really hooked.  It’s probably the same thing happening today to hundreds of thousands of kids which is why Key Collector Comics is so important, to give them a guide through 80+ years of comic book history.  I remember having the novel adaptation of the movie and reading through it two or three times.   Actually, it was before the movie even came out.  The trailer and commercials resonated so deeply with me, I didn’t even need to see the film, although I did, and loved it as much as I thought I would.  From there, I remember getting two graphic novels,  Batman Greatest Stories Ever Told and Joker Greatest Stories Ever Told, and it never abated.  I still have the same hobby as a 39 year old man that I did as an 11 year old boy.” Nick continues, “Unfortunately, I haven’t picked up a comic for the past two years, ever since I began building the database.  Funny thing is, I thought the database would take about 3 months and I’d be finished…here I am two years later and I’m still adding to it.  I don’t mean I worked on it here and there, over a two year period, I mean, not only have I not picked up a comic, but I haven’t turned on a television, or watched a movie!  People think I’m exaggerating, but I’m not.  I’d like to start hunting down books again but in the meantime, it’s really great to connect with people on social media and see what they’ve found with the app.  Honestly, it’s like collecting vicariously.  I truly get a lot of joy from seeing what my app is doing for collectors.”
‘The Conception of Key Collector Comics!’
CW: Nick spent two years completing the initial Key Collector Comics app, but it’s constantly growing, which means it is never really ‘complete’, as you are constantly updating the application with new key issues, but where did this idea come from?
Nick:  “I was always on the hunt for comics:  antique stores, flea markets, garage sales.  One day, I stopped into a used book store in downtown Milwaukee I had never been to before.  I didn’t even know if they sold comics, but the first thing that caught my eye was X-Men #221, 1ST appearance of Mr. Sinister for $1.00!  After returning a few more times and seeing fresh inventory, I asked if he had a decent amount of stock in the backroom.  He did not,  actually he had an entire basement filled with 30,000 comics at an off-site warehouse!”
“So I did what any comic collector would do and begged this stranger to bring me to this off-site warehouse, lead me into the basement, and request that he not kill me at any point during the process.”
“Truthfully it took a lot of time, going into the store, hanging out and establishing trust.  Turns out, we got along really well.  He’s a good and honest person and I find it easy to relate to people like that.  After a few months, we came to an agreement on how to split the profits of key issues I found, post to eBay, and sell.  He didn’t know much about which comics were worth selling, so I became valuable to him.”
“BUT, as much as I thought I knew, there was A LOT I didn’t know:  Sally Forth #4 – $100?!  Scud #1?! I had never heard of those books before, but discovered they were valuable based on a hunch, so I knew there had to be more gems that I couldn’t distinguish from the rocks.  I spent most of my free time, over an entire summer, down in that basement, which got tiresome after awhile, but I had an agreement with the owner and wanted to make sure that the trust this guy, who was now my friend, put into me, had a good result.  I found myself wishing there was a book, some resource that had JUST the key issues, ONLY the valuable stuff, without the clutter of hundreds of entries.  I hated searching each issue individually.  I just wanted to FLIP and SCROLL.  The whole situation got more mundane and I just wasn’t enjoying it anymore.  I figured I couldn’t be the only person who was in the same situation and might be turned off to collecting because of it.  So it just kind of hit me one day to create the database and put it on an app for total convenience.”
In case you are new to comic collecting or just not familiar with the term ‘Key Issue‘, the description per Key Collector Comics is:
What is a Key? First appearances, early appearances, origin stories, iconic cover art, classic stories and many other categories could be considered a “key issue”.  The truth is, it is up to each individual collector to determine what a key comic book is based on their own preferences.  Key Collector Comics mobile app offers a variety of different categories of key issues in order to be an effective sidekick for every collector.
‘The Functionality of the mobile Key Collector Comics App’
CW: This sounds like a dream come true, but I had to ask Nick to elaborate on how exactly the Key Collector App works? Nick:  “The app has 3 main search functions:  Search by Title – while you’re flipping through a series of multiple issues and if something on the screen matches something in the box, you found yourself a key issue.  For example, between the Amazing Spider-Man #316 (1st cover appearance of Venom) and #344 (1st cameo of Cletus Kasady who becomes Carnage), there are no issues listed because not much happens that we still see the repercussions of today, therefore the app will not have any issues listed.  Collectors can assume that these are $1 books and consider that in the valuation of a collection.  Some people like to catalog every single book they own but it’s time consuming, so why not just catalog the comics that matter?”
“Search by Character – reveals the history of any of the thousands of characters in the database, from 1st appearance, to where they are today and the milestones that happened in-between, to define who they are.  For example, Wolverine, with Key Collector Comics, you’ll know when his berserker rage was first introduced to the mythos, when he was first called Logan, his first fight with Sabretooth, and the first time the words “I’m the best there is at what I do” appeared on the page.”
“Finally, Browse by Category – is really more for fun than anything, but also for the newest users who want to find a recommended classic story-line or want to see 100 Iconic Superhero Covers.  There are currently 75 or so categories to browse by.  Admittedly, I’ve been so overwhelmed by the response to the app that I haven’t been able to give that browse option the attention it deserves, but I will very soon.  For now, in that section, you can also see what new keys are added on a weekly, sometimes even a daily basis.” “Collectors can also catalog the issues they own and assign a grade to it and also build a wish list for what they want which is hugely important because if you’re like me, anytime I go to a convention or walk into my LCS, I go brain-dead. [This resonates so much with me, as when I come upon a treasure trove of comics, all of the sudden, I can’t think of anything I’m looking for and the Key Collector app has saved me in these situations!] The wish list will provide a reminder for the issues fans will want to seek out specifically before they browse.  The beauty of it all is that its all bundled together in one app.  In the past, you’d open your notes app to look at your wishlist, then you might check eBay pricing, or maybe you’d google a character to find out their 1st appearance,  and then you’d catalog whatever you may have purchased.  That’s 4 apps you have to open, and now, you open Key Collector Comics and everything you need is available to you, in an intuitive interface that requires zero learning curve.”
‘Key Collector Comics Partners With Valiant Entertainment’
CW: On December 13th, Valiant Comics announced a partnership with Key Collector Comics, how did this happen?
Nick:  “I was able to secure a table at the NYCC last minute.  Someone had dropped out, and I dropped in.  I barely had anything as far as promotional materials go.  A couple computer screens on a loop and some fliers.  Needless to say, getting people’s attention was a struggle, but Dinesh*, being the kind-of-guy he is, inquisitive, passionate about the industry, humble – walked the aisles, shopped for comics and eventually came across my booth.  Again it was bare-bones and I didn’t fault anyone for whizzing by me, but Dinesh asked ‘What do you have here?’  I gave him the extended explanation, just like you’re getting, and he immediately grasped the concept, knew what the intention was, and wanted to see it succeed, because as he perfectly stated, ‘This is really good for the industry!’.  I was thrilled, he said exactly what I was thinking, validating what my intention was for building the app and being at the NYCC.”
“We had a few conversations in the weeks that followed.  I presented the Valiant Key Issue portal that connects fans directly into the dynamic universe of Valiant (which I can honestly say has the most creative stories, the diverse universe and incredibly beautiful art of any books that are on the market) and Dinesh accepted.  They help me with exposure and credibility while I familiarize the growing legion of Key Collector Comics members with the Valiant books in a non-invasive way.”
*Dinesh Shamdasani is the current CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Valiant Entertainment, and one of the most creative, ingenious marketing and creative minds in the comic industry.
According to Valiant Comics Media release,
Valiant Entertainment is proud to announce that it has joined forces with Key Collector Comics – currently available for iOS and Android – for their first official publisher partnership!  The free-to-download mobile app aims to make collecting the most seminal single issues from across the renowned publisher’s 25-year history easier than ever before with a complete list of Valiant’s biggest and most sought-after milestones!
Using the dedicated first-of-its-kind “Valiant Keys” button on the homepage of the mobile app, fans and collectors can access an extensive database full of information and pricing data for more than 100+ significant comic book issues published by Valiant, including first appearances, origin stories, gold issues, iconic cover art, rare variants, and more:
Harbinger #0 (1992) Pink Variant – a highly sought-after mailaway issue revealing the origin of the Renegades!
Eternal Warrior #4 (1994) – featuring the first cameo appearance by Bloodshot!
Quantum & Woody #3 (1997) – featuring the first appearance of Vincent Van Goat (aka “The Goat”)!
X-O Manowar#1 (2017) Brushed Metal Variant – Valiant’s first brushed metal variant cover printed via a special process on an actual brushed aluminum metal sheet!
Eternity #1 (2017) Massafera Variant – a rare 1:40 wraparound variant cover introducing the complete cast of the visionary new series by Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine, featuring fully painted cover art by Felipe Massafera!
Plus dozens more!
The Key Collector Comics app is a concise and comprehensive resource that isolates issues of significance from the clutter of uneventful comics.  It features information regarding over 7,000 key issue comic books, as well as a simplified price guide, robust search filters, and a cataloging system to determine the value of your own collection.
CW: You mentioned a new partnership with Coffin Comics along with a new update to the Key Collector app? How did this come about?
Nick:  “My brother-in-law is in a band called The Rosedales.  They’re like a Rockabilly Monster band like the Monkees meet the Munsters.  The bassist and lead vocalist in the band is friends with Brian* out in Arizona.  That was sort of the connection that allowed me to be heard by a very busy, very savvy individual in the comic book industry.  Brian, like Dinesh, has been very gracious with his time and helped me understand things about the app and about the business that would’ve taken me years to come upon.  Also, both creators see the value in the app and what it means to the future of the comic book industry.  Embracing new collectors and innovation, technologically and new concepts, are the lifeblood of any business that seeks to have a place for itself in the future.  Comics are no different, but the secondary market collectible arena has been static with advancements, which is why the app is garnering the praise and attention it deserves.”
*Brian Pulido, is the former president of Chaos! Comics, announcing in late 2014, upon reaching an agreement with Avatar Press, he would be to taking sole ownership of the character, Lady Death, former publishing home of Pulido’s Lady Death since 2005.  Concurrently, Brian launched a new publishing entity, Coffin Comics, for all future Lady Death titles, as well as a new supernatural universe, in which Lady Death will play a major role going forward in 2015.
A note to readers,  I was unaware that I had the first appearance of Lady Death, who first appeared in Evil Ernie #1 in December 1991, until I used the Key Collector app!
‘The Key Collector Comics Update’
CW: The Key Collector app update you mentioned, can you tell readers what they can expect?
Nick:  “With the next update, Key Collector Comics’ biggest update since launching October 2017 at the NYCC, I’m giving fans what they asked for!”:
Full expansion of the grading scale!
The ability to designate if your comic is slabbed or not, signed or restored!
Collectors can enter notes and take photos of the comics they own!
They can enter the price they paid for the comic and see what the current net worth is for their full collection and each issue individually!
There will also be an option to collapse the cover images, for quicker scrolling through a title if, let’s say, someone might be trying to flip through a lot of books at once!
Collectors can also enter their own value for the book they are entering into their inventory!
“As always there will be more key issues added to the database as they come out on the market.  The beauty of the app is that you don’t have to update it to download these new issues.  The changes are instantaneously retrieved from the server on the next query from the app.  In other words, I plug the comic into the database and its available to be seen, so that no collector will be in the dark about what’s new and hot.”
‘The Future of Key Collector Comics’
CW: What’s next for Key Collector Comics?   Can you mention any future plans for the app going forward?
Nick:  I have so many ideas that I would love to discuss, but to keep things exciting, I have to reveal them the closer I get.  There will be a Variant Cover portal added shortly that will allow access to a database specific to those books.  Since there are so many variant covers and so few in distribution, I want to maintain the initial concept of the app, which is to help identify keys quickly and efficiently.  Keys that are more likely available to be found.  Yet, I understand the importance and desire of variants to be included.   Also, a Creator search option has been in the plans since day one, so that functionality will be built out shortly.  Beyond that, I can sum it all up like so:  the Key Collector Comics mobile app is built by a collector, for collectors, therefore my intention is to make it the only resource necessary to obtain the comics collectors are passionate about owning.  I will maintain the integrity of the app in the way I would want it to exist as an end user, which means – no invasive ads and no freemium charges to unlock promised or already given features.  My Golden Rule in every decision I make regarding the app is asking myself, “would I be happy with this if I were on the other end?”  If the answer is no, I do what needs to be done to make it “yes”!
I would like to first, tell Nick “thank you” for taking the time out of his busy schedule to discuss the Key Collector Comics app with Comic-Watch, and I would invite him to keep us posted as updates are made to the app going forward!  As an avid comic collector myself, I find the Key Collector Comic app absolutely amazing, and I recommend it to everyone I come across on social media and at my local comic shop!  Please Download the app and share this article with as many as possible, as this gem, the Key Collector Comics app, is just waiting to make your comic collecting experience easier, more enjoyable, and provide you with a resource that meets all your needs, all in one place!

Online Dating Statistics: Dating Stats from 2017
No doubt about it, 2017 was one for the history books. From the inauguration of Donald Trump to the casting of Beyoncé in the new live-action The Lion King—this year has been a doozy.
For me, the end of the year is a time for reflection and resolutions. It’s a time to look back at where we’ve been and think about where we’re going. So, in that spirit, now’s a good time to take a look at online dating’s report card and see how singles fared in a rapidly changing dating scene.
Although online dating sometimes gets mixed reviews, no one can deny that dating sites and apps have become a major part of single life, and they’re not going away anytime soon. You don’t have to take my word for it, though, because the numbers speak for themselves. Take a look at the following noteworthy online dating statistics that made headlines this year and changed the way we view online dating.
1. 19% of Brides Said They Met Their Spouses Online In 2017, online dating became the most common way for newlyweds to meet one another. The Knot surveyed more than 14,000 engaged or recently married individuals and reported that 19% of brides said they met their spouses online. This is a significant increase from the 5% of American couples who said they met online in a 2015 Pew Research poll. According to the Knot, meeting via dating sites has now surpassed more traditionally popular venues, including through friends (17%), during college (15%), and at work (12%). As time goes by and more happy couples decide to tie the knot, we can probably expect further increases in the percentage of married couples who met by swiping right.
2. Annual Revenue in the Online Dating Industry Has Surpassed $3 Billion Online dating has been around for decades, but it’s really taken off in recent years. Partly because it’s gone mobile. Many of today’s best dating apps have seen exponential growth in online activity and revenue as more and more singles seek fast connections. Millions of people have now invested their time and money into online dating, which has become a mainstream solution for singles around the world. In early 2017, online dating became a $3 billion dollar industry. Yeah, billion. It’s a pretty big deal. Dating services, half of which are dating apps or websites, employed around 9,500 people worldwide and have collectively seen an annual growth rate of +5.3% in the past five years.
3. Couples Who Meet Online Tend to Get Married Quickly Online daters don’t show up on a dating site by accident. They come there with a purpose — whether it’s to woo a date for the night or to find a partner for the rest of their lives— and they often don’t want to waste time. So it may come as no surprise that sociological scientists see a trend of heterosexual couples meeting online and quickly popping the question. According to one longitudinal study, couples who meet online tend to get married much sooner in their relationships than couples who meet offline. Dating websites often fast track committed relationships because when two compatible people meet and discover they want the same things, there’s no reason to hit the brakes.
4. Online Marriages are Less Likely to End Within the First Year We all know dating sites are fast ways to meet people. You can start chatting with someone online within minutes, so it’s easy to pigeonhole online dating as a tool for superficial hookups and not relationships. But, actually, personal compatibility algorithms work exceedingly well and yield great results for relationship-minded users. Recent evidence suggests that dating sites facilitate more diverse and longer lasting connections between online users. Economists Josué Ortega and Philipp Hergovich investigated the long-term effects of online dating and demonstrated that the high-tech dating environment has contributed to “a sharp increase in interracial marriages in the US in the last two decades.” Those marriages are also less likely to break up within the first year.
Plus, when the University of Chicago surveyed nearly 20,000 people between 2005 and 2012, researchers concluded that those who met their spouses online expressed more marital satisfaction than those who met their spouses through more traditional avenues offline.
5. Some Dating Networks May Have Contributed to a Rise in STD Outbreaks Of course, it isn’t all wedding bells and happily ever afters. Online dating also has a dark side, especially in the world of hookups. When you make it easier for strangers to solicit sex, sometimes there are some not-so-nice consequences. I’m talking, unfortunately, about STDs. Some health experts have linked the rise of fast-paced dating apps, most notably Tinder and Grindr, with a corresponding spike in cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, and HIV. Correlation doesn’t prove causation, but it’s something to keep an eye on in the future.
6. Half of British Singles Have Never Asked Someone on a Date Face to Face In some ways, online dating is a crutch for singles who feel uncomfortable or fearful about talking to their crushes in person. It’s much less intimidating to communicate with a date online because you don’t have to look the person in the eye and put your heart on the line. Over half of British single adults surveyed by The Sun admitted they’ve never asked a date out in person, and 46% said they’ve never dumped anyone in person. While online communication can make those tough conversations feel more pleasant, at some point, you’re going to have to talk to your date in person.
Online Dating Has Come a Long Way, But There’s Always Room to Grow and Improve
In 2017, we survived hurricanes, political scandals, and Taylor Swift albums, and we grew online dating into one of the largest industries around. I think that’s cause for celebration. Even if we don’t always agree on everything, at least we can all come together in an online space and judge each other’s bathroom selfies.
If you look at the stats, it’s encouraging to see so how many people are now going online to seek out that special someone. Today’s singles benefit from advanced search features, online verification tools, and international dating networks, so they have more dating options than ever before. Whether you’re after a short-term date or a long-term relationship, dating sites and apps have proven remarkably effective at pairing up like-minded people. All in all, the future looks bright for online dating, which can only be good news for singles out there.

Self care
day
And by self care I mean being super efficient and productive.
I’ve been feeling really depressed lately. I’m still not sleeping at night, money issues bother me a lot and I’ve been in a lot of fights with friends and boyfriend. I’m hungry and tired and irritable and self-loathing all the time. Also, having the bunny staying at my place means that I’m giving up my freedom to come and go as I please and spend time traveling and such. I’ve been so down that I’ve questioned my entire life, hated myself loads and haven’t been able to do the tiniest tasks such as unloading the damn dishwasher. So today I got up early, did my quota of thesis stuff, did some work from home, did today’s and half of tomorrow’s JLPT quota, cleaned up my house, did a workout, washed my hair and now I’m catching up with the blog. I feel a lot better having accomplished something for the first time in a while. I mean all my relationship and monetary trouble are still there but at least my head is a lot clearer.
I spent a fun weekend at our summer house with mum and dad. Dad just moved his stuff over to a new town a lot further away than previously to start his new job tomorrow, so we celebrated his birthday and the end of summer vacation by eating delicious food and spending time together. The summer house really and truly is the only place where I don’t need to keep accomplishing stuff to keep my mental clarity. In there my chores include playing ACNL and HHD, reading books, enjoying the nature and watching YouTube videos. Lately I’ve been super into Stardew Valley let’s plays and my boyfriend was sweet enough despite all our fighting to buy the game for me. I started life on my own Ruusula farm, named after my little sleeping cottage at our summer house. The sleeping cottage is in turn named after my stuffed rabbit that dad brought me from Norway when I was little.
So it was rally season again last weekend and I loved it. I’ve come to really love sports events and I’m even considering sending the organization my resumé and asking if they’d get me to do social media there as a volunteer like I do for nordic ski events. I love getting emotional over and cheering for athletes, and I love the buzz of an international event. I also live for the feeling of being important and a part of something bigger working in a team. We’ll see. Unfortunately I wasn’t in town that much this year but I still got to watch some of the courses on TV and listen to the radio. And see the cool rally cars in traffic and all the fans and helicopters and roadblocks and yeah. I just love when there’s life and people, even though I’d rather look at them from my window.
I cannot believe I haven’t blogged since before our convention 3 weeks ago. Wow. That said convention was a lot of fun. I was dressed as my ACNL mayor and nobody recognized me so I got to stay in peace and help my guy out when he got his pictures taken. There was no drama regarding me dropping out of our group for at least a year, and I ended up enjoying myself a lot. I got to play ACNL with my friend and collect street passes. It was also sunny and super hot that weekend so I enjoyed myself. I actually enjoyed myself so much that my guy was the one who wanted to leave before I did on both days. A true miracle. My guy was irritated because he hadn’t fixed his cosplays on time but everything worked out in the end and I had fun now that I was stress free for once! It was a fun little road trip together, and a couple of days of us staying at my guy’s parents’ house with just the two of us.
After the convention my days have consisted of either thesis or JLPT work, and depression naps/binge watching YouTube. Our summer course students had their last few free time events, and I went in to take their picture at the handing out of diplomas. My friend has been coming over to play ACNL weekly and now that I have Stardew Valley that and ACNL are taking up a few hours of my day. I’m at a frustrating point of my MA thesis where I have to go through pamphlets that are anywhere from 4 to 90 pages long and I’m trying to stick to my weekly quotas of at least a year per week so that it’ll take me 8-ish weeks to go through 10 years of source material. At most there are 41 pamphlets per year, and going through them is super time consuming. I just want to get this stage done with so that I can email my seminar professor in the beginning of September to update him on my progress over the summer, and move on to more writing. I want to stick to my goal of more research literature and last of the sources in September, writing in October, finishing in November and submitting the finalized draft version in December. Then I’ll do what needs to be done based on the feedback I get, and submit the final final final MA thesis in March at latest. That way I’ll be able to take my degree out in April/May/June and be done with it! I just hope I can keep up with everything and my personal life won’t get too hard. One thing I like about my self-hatred is that it keeps me going. Many people procrastinate because they can persuade themselves into idleness. I on the other hand fear inadequacy so much that I have no interest in laying in bed all day. When you’re as disgusting and stupid as me, you really need to work your hardest because you’ll never amount to anything anyway. Cheerful but at least it keeps me working on the stuff that I need to work on, and thus keeps my head clear. Self-hatred truly is the driving force in my life.
I think I’m going to go do my ACNL chores, and then maybe play some Stardew Valley to finish off this productive day. Going to work on my thesis for the next few days as well and hopefully taking the weekend off again. This is one of those 41 pamphlets -weeks so it’ll take me at least 4 days to go through them ten per day. Ten really is the maximum, when I did twelve to thirteen last week I was straight up crying by the end of it.
Origin games aren’t working with my Nvidia drivers and it makes me so sad. I can’t play DAI without getting the damn “GetDeviceRemovedReason” error and ME3 crashes with flashing colorful pixels, which forces me to restart my PC. I hope to whatever higher force for a fix SOON because my friend is about to finish ME3 and my guy is about to finish DAI and play through Trespasser. Also I’m about to start MEA and if the same problem goes on I’m going to cry. I really can’t afford a new graphics card or a new screen anytime soon...
Last day of July, welcome August 2018! I dread the end of summer but at least I was able to end this month on a slightly higher note.

Dallas Cowboys: 5 Veterans who won’t survive 2017 training camp
With 2017 training camp just around the corner, the Dallas Cowboys may soon be faced with the uncomfortable task of cutting a number of veteran players.
Free agency and the 2017 NFL Draft are in the books, meaning it’s time for the Dallas Cowboys to start looking ahead to OTAs and training camp. It’s going to be a busy next couple of months as America’s Team prepares for what should be another serious playoff run.
Before we start talking Super Bowls, though, let’s focus on the present/near future. With OTAs and training camps on the horizon, the Cowboys have been busy loading up their roster with capable talent. However, before training camp is over and Week 1 arrives, the roster will need to undergo serious changes.
Between now and the beginning of September, the roster will be trimmed down to 53 players. By the time said roster pruning is complete, a number of notable names will be shown the door. In fact, I’m guessing at least a handful of veterans will be sent packing — it’s not just the undrafted rookies and little-known prospects who get the ax at final cuts.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at five Cowboys veterans who won’t survive 2017 training camp. For one reason or another, these players who have at least three NFL seasons under their belts will be forced into unemployment.
5. Damontre Moore, DE
Let’s be honest, Damontre Moore was little more than a low-upside flier for the Cowboys. Once seen as a rising star at defensive end, the 2013 third-round pick has watched his NFL career struggle to simply stay alive.
Since being cut by the New York Giants two seasons ago, Moore has bounced around the league while battling character issues. He recently got popped on suspicion of DUI, which will likely land him a suspension at some point in the near future. Even if he does offer some potential as a pass rusher for a team that desperately needs it, he won’t pan out.
The Cowboys made some upgrades on the edge this offseason. The selection of Taco Charlton during the 2017 NFL Draft was a big step forward. The return of a healthy Demarcus Lawrence should also give this Dallas defense a boost. If only Randy Gregory could have gotten his act together, but a recent failed drug test made sure that wouldn’t happen.
As much as the Cowboys could use a starting-caliber edge rusher, Moore isn’t the answer. He’s a washed up option out of Texas A&M who’s returning home before the final grains of sand in his NFL hourglass finally fall.
4. Leon McFadden, CB
Much like Moore, Leon McFadden is little more than a longshot at this point in his NFL career. Since entering the league in 2013, he’s played for four different teams and hasn’t stayed in one place longer than a year.
I wouldn’t expect that to change with the Cowboys. After he was promoted to Dallas’ active roster late in 2016, he played sparingly while serving a significant role on special teams. While he wasn’t a complete disaster, he doesn’t offer the skills needed to earn a roster spot right out of the gates in 2017.
The problem is that the Cowboys’ cornerback room is now rather crowded. After drafting three cornerbacks and signing another via free agency, Dallas doesn’t have a ton of room for replacement-level players. As you can probably gather, McFadden is nothing more than a replacement-level player.
Despite his lengthy list of stopping points, I wouldn’t be surprised to see McFadden catch on elsewhere. Unfortunately, there’s a very good chance his string of stops spanning less than a year won’t end with the Cowboys. If he is cut, though, don’t be surprised if the team keeps him on speed dial.
3. Kellen Moore, QB
Okay, so this is a bit of a bold one. Right now, the Cowboys only have two experienced quarterbacks on the roster. Dak Prescott is the unquestioned starter, and the only semi-proven option behind him is Kellen Moore.
So why would the Cowboys opt to let Moore go as part of the roster trim? It’s simple, really — he’s not a very good quarterback. Throughout his career, he’s been little more than an emergency backup, having only seen action in three games over five seasons. To make matters worse, he missed the entire 2016 campaign with a broken ankle.
Even when he does see the field, Moore is far from a capable signal caller. During a two-game stint as the Cowboys’ starter two seasons ago, he was unimpressive to say the least. So it makes sense for Dallas to be looking far and wide for an alternative behind Prescott.
One option could be undrafted rookie Cooper Rush, who some see as a hidden gem. While I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s going to push Prescott for snaps anytime soon, he could show enough during camp to make Moore irrelevant. Either that, or another veteran gunslinger gets cut by another team and ends up in Dallas as Moore’s replacement.
2. Jonathan Cooper, G
A former first-round pick once considered a rising star, Jonathan Cooper has quickly seen his stock tank in recent years. Over the last season, he’s been on three different rosters and now finds himself hoping to stick around in Dallas.
Unfortunately, I just can’t imagine that happening based on what we’ve seen so far from Cooper. He’s essentially already been labeled a bust, so why should we expect anything different from him on a Cowboys team that obviously has high expectations for its offensive linemen? The realistic answer to that question is we shouldn’t.
And yet, Dallas has already tabbed him as first up to earn the starting left guard job (via the Star-Telegram’s Charean Williams). Regardless, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see Cooper struggle to capitalize on the opportunity. Chances are someone such as Joe Looney steps up and rips the starting job away from the North Carolina product.
This could very well be one of Cooper’s last shots in the NFL. He’s already worn out his welcome in Arizona, New England and Cleveland, and now has a brief window to impress the Cowboys. If he can’t do that, we could see his football days come to a merciful end.
1. Alfred Morris, RB
Alfred Morris signed with the Cowboys in 2016 thinking that he’d get an opportunity to carry a significant part of the load. Instead, Dallas drafted Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4 overall and it was all downhill from there for the former Washington Redskins runner.
Despite serving in a backup role, Morris didn’t get anywhere near the type of run he was expecting. Now with a healthy Darren McFadden back in the mix, it’s understandable why the Cowboys tried to trade Morris leading up to the 2017 NFL Draft. His limited skill set and ineffectiveness in the passing game also played parts in his availability.
The biggest issue with moving on from Morris is the $500,000 in deap cap space it would create. Dallas doesn’t have the greatest financial situation right now, so taking on another half-million against the cap isn’t ideal. Still, it’s worth the hit to move on from a runner who doesn’t check any boxes that Elliott hasn’t already.
Despite McFadden carrying less dead cap if cut, Morris is the one who will get the ax. His release will pave the way for a younger back like Rod Smith to see some snaps, or another player could be added once roster cuts are made. Either way, don’t expect Morris to be around for long.
