space babies and the devil's chord first watch thoughts
a couple of these are things i wrote down while watching but most is off the top of my head afterwards. will probs rewatch in the week and be more on it writing down thoughts etc
spaces babies
starting the episode with however many minutes of the doctor telling ruby his life story is... idk. defo didn't hate it but also it felt very powerpoint-y like they're just tryna get all the info out and hit the bases for the new viewers. which is partly understandable and i do think it make sense for the new therapised doctor to be willing to give out info about himself but that coupled with him giving her the key at the end of the ep is like hm i maybe woulda preferred her to find out misc stuff over time? not just have his life story dumped on her when they've just met??? idrk.
with prev eras, that stuff came over time or with 13 the fam finding out about where the doctor was from was a big thing bc it took a whole season and also there was meaning behind it, she was just telling them to get them to stop asking. where as this doesn't feel as deep? it felt, like i said, more about telling the audience than about anything else. even if it does make sense he'd be willing to be open bc of his new therapised self and also the fact him and ruby relate in certain ways so he might feel closer to her quicker
the exact same phone trick that nine did with rose is so... another thing that's like okay fine and also that rose scene was 19yrs ago now so it's not like it happened recently but it being by the same writer is like maybe think of something new. at least the scenes weren't in the same context like with nine and rose it was right after a fight but this was more chill
the doctor purposely scaring the babies was so 😭😭😭
the babies were so cute like. i low-key felt a bit teary when we first met them and they were saying about being alone or whatever it was
some review mentioned that the doctor said 'space babies' a lot and yeah he did and i noticed it every time and idk if that's bc of the review mentioning it or if i woulda noticed anyways but either way it was annoying
ruby sunday monday tuesday wednesday
fifteen and ruby have good banter idk i didn't list every moment but they're defo good together
gonna be real idk why they didn't just let that bogeyman die like. was he or was he not tryna kill them for half the episode. call him a baby but that is not a baby. that ending felt strange idrk
overall a good ep, gave it 3.5/5. has potential to be a 4/5 on rewatch but we'll see
the devil's chord
maestro i doubted you but i stan kinda
the scenes that were released as sneak peaks were WAYYYY better in the actual context of the episode
a susan mention in the year of our lord 2024 is craaaazy. loved it but again is like my first space babies point where it kinda feels like stuff is being revealed to kinda give new viewers back story?? but ALSO susan finally getting mentioned by name is great and what she deserves so idk
one review said ruby was 'casually bisexual' and i did watch these eps at 6/7am so maybe i missed something but.. i didn't notice a single bi ruby moment
maestro mentioning the one who waits at the end was like omfg can we be more creative. i am really into what this season is doing and the toymaker being maestro's dad is really cool but can we find ways of hinting at stuff that isn't literally just a character saying 'they're coming'. it's so lazy
not sure why there's been a six month time skip between episode one and two???? just to keep up with our time? very unnecessary and i feel like doesn't fully work bc ruby has FRESH companion vibes still (like how by now she would defo have found out that shit going bad in the past would fuck up her life in the future but she didn't) but we're i guess supposed to believe it's been six months? whatever
all the fourth wall breaking isn't my fave
why was there a song and dance at the end i know it was music ep but it felt strange/unnecessary
the doctor aggressively pointing the sonic at maestro was so funny like. worried ppl would play guns on the playground with the old sonic design and then you have the doctor do that lol very unserious
the next time trailer looked really cool i'm looking forward to more darker eps, these were mostly just fun
gave this ep 4/5. could go down, defo won't go up i don't think

@playful-level4366 Hey sorry I didn't reply like normal but I knew this wouldn't fit down there, considering how long I thought about this question and how to word it. It's kind of a weird dynamic to explain because it's not just about Tai Lung because he's intrically linked to Shifu and Tigress as an abuser, and in a sense I don't think the fandom wants to go over that with him at all. They believe him to be a victim and nothing else. It's true he's a victim, trust me I agree with a lot of Tai fans on that aspect (Hell, I relate to his need to prove himself and also hating who he is, hoping some magical spell will change all our imperfections but I know it won't...) but also he's a terrible abuser to his own Father and Tigress. And that ruins a lot of their fluffy hcs of a soft family learning to come together because that's too realistic for the fandom perspective and view on him. God, I don't wanna be mean but it always seems like when I see discussions on the character its as if we see two very different sides of a burnt piece of toast and see two different types of images, one skewed more by the lighting than anything. Listen, this isn't me telling other Tai fans they can't have their soft hcs for him go ahead but remember you need to stop blaming other characters for who he is, he choose his path. A person even said I was "too harsh" on Tai Lung after explaining all the horrible things HE DECIDED TO DO, that's not harsh. That's the truth and no one wants to go over it because its uncomfortable and I get it to a point but you all also picked the most uncomfortable characters who mirror our very dreary reality when we close our laptops and see the imperfections of our loved ones and ourselves. Tai Lung is a personification of the favored son in many Kung Fu flicks of the past and even the present, how the Father uplifts them to the light of heaven themselves before they ultimately go too far and let them down whilst ignoring the daughter. aka Sexism in the fam. Neat. You latched onto the man that was not only neglected by his own father but the man who abused his father back, both physically and emotionally TWICE to gain what he wanted because he knew Shifu would never hurt him.
Tumblr media
Like I had a whole Tai stan block me for daring to remember this scene of a father with a broken hip crawling to his son and mourning what he allowed him to become. Shifu could have died but he still loved that boy despite everything he did to him and what he would continue to do to him. Like if we wanted real redemption arcs of Tai Lung we would go over how he haunted Shifu's consciousness and led him to close himself off to his next child, Tigress, whom is always left out of the conversation cause no one wants to talk about the woman neglected and abused by her father and older brother. A popular fic even admitted to not even wanting to touch Shifu and Tigress' dynamic, do you see the problem here???? I know many of you may not know or even care but I write fanfic for this fandom focusing on that aspect of Tigress' character along with Shifu, its not always fun and I've probably stumbled and made mistakes but its a story worth telling. Because in the end, Tigress is still alive and so is Shifu! Tai Lung isn't he had his chance and ruined it. Most Tai redemption fics are easily consumable because they don't want to go over the unsavory aspects of Tai Lung's character; The fraud, the continued abuse of his own father because everything he does is to hurt Shifu personally so he can get what he wanted in the end. Po was just another piece to hurt him (Shifu) as stated on the bridge. No, in the end, they want to go over how Shifu hurt him as a child and try to lure Tigress to his side, despite the fact he belittled her when they first met. But you know, how else are we supposed to get hehe bickering siblings. Cause that's easier to consume than realizing she'd want nothing to do with him after hurting her friends and her father. There's just an overall lack of autonomy given to the characters that the movies relish in. The fandom is too scared to allow them to be themselves because pointing the finger at Oogway who allows people to grow at their own pace is easier than realizing; Tai lung and Shifu never listened to him. Like think of a person this week who did exactly what you told em to do? and did they do it? Probably not, people are fucking stubborn. Me, included. People love learning the hard way, that's just the truth! Even toddlers take a min to listen to one task! So, I wouldn't even call it whitewashing, it's this desire to ignore canon to support their own hcs because if they told his actual story all of their concepts would fall apart to the wayside to see, the only true victim in the end, was a woman. Tigress. No one wants to go over that, that's a lot of work, that's a touchy subject but it's why I love these characters, there so raw and horrible which makes their stories compelling enough to stand beside the likes of Seven Samurai. It's that good!! So, to end this all, no they don't. Even Traces of Spring which I still follow because I love the art falls into this safe way of going about telling his story and sidelining the character who mirrors who he could have been, Tigress. Because she's not that cool to them despite the fact she controls herself better than he does. And had the opportunity to be a hero as great as she was if he set aside his selfish, obsession, and toxic views. But you know he's hot to some people, so he's a good boy deep down.

Yup. Uh huh.

I forgot that thanksgiving exists so;
Goofy hcs of these fandoms doing stupid shit at thanksgiving:
TF2
Soldier definitely caused chaos during the day, multiple times.
SOLLY. STOP TRYING TO STEAL THE TURKEY! NO! IT CAN'T FLY-
Sniper definitely killed that turkey with the power of Australians (nsrs about the power of Australians please don't fight me-)
P y r o. Get. Away. From. The. Turkey. We don't need to fry it up more.
Heavy probably makes sure everyone has food bc I see him doing that.
MEDIC DON'T EXPERIMENT WITH THE TURKEY-
Engie please try to keep every banned from the kitchen mercs out of the said location.
The kitchen banned mercs in question: Pyro, Soldier, Demo, Medic (only sometimes). Do no ask me how Scout is not banned.
DO NOT LET THE RACCOON HORDE IN. SOLLY NO.
ROTTMNT
Donnie is so done with Leo.
Raph and Mikey are making the turkey of Splinter isn't feeling the urge to cook with Mikey.
Leo would probably try to make SO MANY THANKSGIVING PUNS-
Hueso would let them join his and his family's thanksgiving if the turtles' thanksgiving turns out to be a disaster (totally not bc he has a soft spot for them)
OMORI
Oh god idk what to do with this one. hHhHHHHHhhhHH-
Hector definitely stole a turkey leg at least once.
Aubrey spends her Thanksgiving with Kim and her fam (before the good heart change ofc but I'd like to think she still does)
Sunny chomps a turkey leg whole without fail each thanksgiving.
Basil and Polly would be yoinked to Kel's Fam's Thanksgiving dinners after the events of the game. (Possibly with Aubrey every once in a while)
The maverick makes everything better (postive sarcasm)
Henry/Hero definitely calls/video calls with his family on holidays and special days/events that he can't attend/go to.
Kel. Karaoke. He would probably do this or just dance.
Gravity Falls (I love this show so much lmao)
Waddles is not allowed in the kitchen.
Mabel is also not allowed in the kitchen.
Stan burnt water at least once. (Ofc Ford Studies it)
Soos is there bc soos.
The pines thanksgiving dinner is a usually weird one but it's them so what you expect?
Stan somehow remembered his Ma's turkey recipe by heart. Ford totally doesn't cry off scene.

Focuses on: Bruce Wayne and the Fam (plus a new addition)
Favorite bookmark: "GIVE BRUCE A BABY GIRL!!!! HE IS A DESTINED GIRL DAD AND DESERVES MORE DAUGHTERS!!!! AND HE NEEDS A BABY!!!!!!"
Tier: This is #11 in terms of hits and bookmarks?? How?? #9 in terms of kudos? #19 in comments?????? #14 in subscriptions. I am baffled by this.
This is my “behind the scenes” series where I indulge myself horribly by annotating my fics. Link to the fic itself above. Thoughts below the cut.
Apparently by this point I had secured a friendship with @audreycritter because she was the one who told me about the existence of Helena Kyle, Selina's daughter, and some comic book nonsense about her maybe or maybe not being Bruce's daughter also and how in some universes Bruce helps her get adopted out and no??? J'refuse????? This is the kind of canon nonsense fic was made to fix.
The decision was a spontaneous one. Rare, for Bruce, but not as rare as some might think. Nor were his decisions—including this one—as free from consideration as the label “spontaneous” might imply. While it was true that Bruce liked to put more deliberate, conscious thought into his life choices, the pieces had already been there, facts lurking in his subconscious like mayfly larva. When the moment had arisen, those facts had sprouted wings and coalesced into a swarm.
As anyone following along has clocked, the majority of my fics start with the author going "Now let me explain something I need you to understand."
Besides, it wasn’t like he didn’t have a history of making this kind of choice before.
We stan a self-aware man.
He wouldn’t make the same mistakes as before, even if it had taken him multiple times to learn his lesson.
I do want to write that fic someday. I had a specific framework mentally charted out that would partly involve Dick learning about Jason Todd's arrival. Someday.
“Bruce!” Dick’s voice was bright and warm, flooding through the interior like sunshine.
Bruce Wayne loves Dick Grayson so. freaking. much.
He could hear Dick shifting, probably settling against a wall or filing cabinet, before prodding, “No offense, but you’re not one for mid-day, no-reason calls. What’s up?”
Ah, that familiar "okay, who died" anxiety provoked by the unexpected call of someone who doesn't do unexpected calls.
“Bruce, tell me I did not just hear what I thought I heard.” Dick’s voice was flat and preternaturally calm, a detective arriving at the scene of a crime, analyzing and struggling to withhold judgement.
Dick: oh no who died
Dick, two seconds later: oh my god not again
“You were my first call.” Bruce offered the fact quickly, an olive branch to shelter under. He kept one hand on the wheel, one hand on the fussing baby in the backseat, and his focus on getting through this call. “I know I… haven’t handled this sort of thing well before. With you.”
Whatever else he may be, Bruce Wayne is a Dad Who Tries!!!!!
He was fumbling, words turning to sludge on his lips, gumming up with guilt and regret. It was always like that, for him. It was one of the reasons Bruce preferred the cowl. No one expected heartfelt speeches from a wraith out of Gotham’s darkest nightmares. Kids, though. Kids expected those sorts of things from their parents.
Always my favorite version of Bruce, this uneloquent and painfully aware version. Also, ironically, as best I remember this entire scene was one of the easier things I've written. I just watched it happen and took dictation.
He still had days with each of his children when seeing them at the breakfast counter or curled up in the den surprised him. That’s a living thing, he would think, and it’s mine, and he would be overwhelmed once more.
Literally me with my cats. The bit right before this about the choice crashing over him like a wave and taking him by surprise even years after the fact is a thing that happens to me. I adapt really quickly in the moment to various changes and then get hit with delayed, extended surprise. (But Bruce's literal surprised thoughts are me re: my cats.)
“As sure as I’ve ever been,” Bruce replied, and even he wasn’t sure which meaning he was reaching for.
Ah, duality. It's fun to think about which he might mean and which Dick might assume.
Still, it was a relief to have Alfred greet him at the door as if this were just another ordinary day and Bruce was not standing with his neck bent as a small child tugged on fistfuls of his hair.
What an an adorable art piece this would make. Not that I'm hinting. I just see it so clearly.
She was looking around with sedate interest, calm but alert, a monarch overlooking her domain. Or, Bruce realized with wry amusement, a cat eyeing a new box.
Please also know she's doing that little unbalanced head wiggle babies do when they're old enough to hold their head upright on their own but young enough to not do it well.
Bruce had planned on gathering all his children in the den, explaining as briefly as he could the circumstances of the baby’s arrival, and letting them make each other’s acquaintance. But his day had yet to go to plan, so why start now.
Drily wry Bruce is always so fun to write. He doesn't get to be as overtly funny as his kids, but I enjoy the humor.
It was an uncomfortable maneuver, since he had to bend further, almost double, to ease the tugging on his scalp until he could loose those little hands.
big man little baby BIG MAN LITTLE BABY
“I already have a sister,” he pointed out. Bruce was inclined to describe it as petulantly, but Damian managed to keep his bottom lip sucked in, if only just.
Damian: I claim none of you
Damian, confronted by a girl baby: HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO MY BELOVED SISTER
also he's jus' a babyyyy
Damian recoiled further, and Bruce let Batman fall from his shoulders like a loosened cape.
can't get enough of this crap
Bruce wrapped his arm around Damian’s middle and pulled the boy into his side. Damian turned away so he couldn’t look at the baby, who was gabbling to herself as she gummed on Bruce’s thumb. Bruce rested his jaw against Damian’s temple, both to keep the boy still and to keep his voice low. The Manor was the securest place in Gotham, other than the Cave, but he would not risk this.
Sometimes writing the logistics of physicality is so difficult, but when it works for me, boy does it work.
Bruce let the question settle against his skin like mist before answering the same way he would again and again for years to come. “She is now.” He didn’t know. He suspected Selina truly didn’t either. Whatever the case, it didn’t matter, in the same way it didn’t matter that his blood didn’t course through Dick’s veins, that he wasn’t responsible for Jason’s broad shoulders or Tim’s blue eyes or Cassie’s dark hair or Duke’s dimples. They were his. And now this child was, too.
I think, in canon, she's supposed to be his, maybe. Don't know for sure, don't really care, and I don't think Bruce would either, as stated above.
“You will be her big brother,” Bruce continued softly. “That is a solemn charge that you cannot take lightly. As closest to her in age, she’ll look up to you. As she grows, she’ll mimic you—your words, your actions, your behaviors. Which means you’ll be in a unique position, perhaps more than any of us, to influence the person she becomes. Do you understand?”
10000% shamelessly used this exact tactic on a nibling when they acquired a younger sibling.
That was something new, the idea of being able to name a child himself.
Isn't that fun! I love names and naming things. I'm delighted he gets this opportunity. (More on this in a minute.)
Somehow, choosing a name felt like a larger responsibility than all of his former child-rearing experience put together. My car is called the Batmobile, Bruce thought despairingly as he watched his children watch each other.
Did I mention that I love drily deadpan Bruce? That line still makes me laugh.
“So does she do anything?” Tim asked. He was eyeing the baby in the same way he might a particularly florid insect—with interest, scientific remove, and no small amount of wariness. Cass wrinkled her nose but didn’t comment. “She’s a baby,” Duke pointed out with the typical fond exasperation he had picked up once the shine of the Manor had worn off. “What do you expect her to do?”
I loved trying to figure out how each kid would react and if there were ways they might respond to the new baby that would be surprising but still sensible. I'm not sure if I managed that, but I'm still pleased with how they all ended up, this weird little family of only children.
Bruce’s brain made a sparking noise, like a fork left in the microwave.
BZZT DING DING A DING A BZZT DING
“Uh, yeah? Got back on Monday. Why?” Why, why, why. Why were his children so distrustful, that’s what Bruce wanted to know.
*taps the exhausted dry humor Bruce sign*
Bruce opened his eyes and stared at the baby shrieking inches from his face. Duke stood behind her, his hands clamped under her arms, and stared back impassively as she squealed into the phone.
Bruce has horrible children.
“B, what the—“ Bruce fought the urge to cover the baby’s ears, even though he was the only one who could hear the voice on the other end.
I love this stupid family.
There was an ominous gurgle from the baby. Duke looked at her, then at Bruce, then quickly handed her over. “Not it.”
I have literally watched hundreds of children in my life, related and unrelated. I have changed one (1) diaper, under duress, and immediately and deliberately forgot everything I was taught. J'refuse.
Helena, meaning bright, shining light, Bruce had explained almost bashfully to Selina. Selina, who had left town the same night Helena went home to the Manor but who saw each of Bruce’s texts and left the read receipt on so he would know. Selina, whose name meant moon. So she’ll always know where she came from.
Remember I said later? Later is now. As we were already spitting on canon, I was more than willing to change the kiddo's name if needed, but it turns out DC (I will be charitable and assume purposefully) chose a lovely, symbolic name that matched beautifully in a way that felt like Bruce. So I kept it. So Bruce did get to name a kid, but also not really because comics did it for him.
The legislation that he’d helped champion regarding the treatment of minors in the media hadn’t hurt either.
I think this was around the time there was a flurry of papparazzi nonsense and talk about this IRL with... Jolie kids or Cruise kids or something, I don't remember. Some grown adults being awful and pushy around famously related minors.
With each adoption, the celebrations had gotten smaller but more precious, the attendees a guard set in place, their names like a chant against hardship and a hymn of thankfulness.
I love this line, but I also think it's wrong now. I think the older Bruce gets, the more firmly he cements the relationships he trusts the most, but also the more he meets people deserving of that trust. Loner, low-key terrified Bruce wouldn't have held a gala to celebrate Dick's appearance. He would have gone full feral shields up. Maybe with Jason he would have given half a thought to expectations and appearances, but with a street kid like Jason, he would've wanted that child shielded from the horrible people in his social circle. And so on and so forth. By now he has his friends, but also his kids' friends, their allies both in domino and out.
Bruce vowed it, down in the deepest part of his heart, the core of him that let him lead a team of aliens and demigods, that made a double life possible and dressing as an armored animal a feasible life choice. A life choice he would not let the baby in his arms emulate.
I too sometimes have a deadpan sense of humor. Shocking, I know.
I take that final line not so much as full self-criticism but an acknowledgement that Bruce's children are all driven to the caped life in the same way he was—by trauma and loss and the need to fix Gotham—and all came to him with that drive already installed. With Helena, being separated from Selina is a trauma, even for an infant, but as is stated throughout the fic, Selina will remain fully present and involved as much as she wishes to be. And Bruce will brave hell and high water and even worse to keep this child from experiencing the kinds of trauma that brought his other children to him and into their other life.
She was already a wonder to him, his little moonbeam, a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a taffeta-heavy party dress with a matching headband.
The bookmark was right. Let this man be a girldad!!!! (I'd briefly considered writing a followup to this, where Cass had to sort complicated emotions about not being the only girl in the house. Never got enough reaction in the early days, though. Something about it or the tags or something attracted a larger than usual contingent of "okay but Bruce is a bad dad" crowd. Bleh.)
He realized he looked like his father, but with airbrushed grey hairs and crow’s feet lines that Thomas Wayne had never had the time to gather. He realized he looked happy.
me @ me: ow????
As stated in the before-cut stats, this ranks decently high in terms of all my fics????? Somehow????????? I can usually get a decent bead on reception just based on how option a fic shows up in my inbox or people reference it on Tumblr or whatever, but this one apparently was a sleeper to only me. Stunned. Bewildered.

honestly while I do like the "kidnap fam" since canonically the book says there was great love between the twins and maglor, I wouldn't go as far as boasting that as an achievement of the feanorians (like some posts and fics do) seeing as they destroyed doriath and then destroyed sirion, which is full of refugees cause like suddenly saving the twins (sorry elrond and elros, love you tho) absolves them of the sins of the many innocent people they killed like ??? it's a good thing the twins grew up nice tho I never gave that credit to the feanorians, I always assume since earendil was nice af, they inherited that from him
some would even go as far as portray the murderers as the good guys while the mother whose life was destroyed TWICE by these murderers is implied to be the fucking villain like they drove the twins mother into committing suicide (and I know some of y'all wouldn't admit that because despite whining about having less female characters in silm, y'all still hate complex female characters like elwing) and y'all were like THAT HORRENDOUS BITCH And the fact that there are less fic of elwing reuniting with elronds family says so much lol
im sorry for the rant, because as someone who discovered silmarillion recently, this hate towards elwing and earendil was THE greatest disappointment I've ever encountered in the fandom
Oh don't apologize anon, I basically agree with all of this lol
I was stunned to come into this fandom after finishing the book and find out that Elwing and Earendil are controversial characters. Headcanons and AUs all you want, but the book makes it very clear they are heroes and Tolkien portrays them as heroes (albeit tragic ones)--Earendil slaying Ancalagon and Elwing convincing the Teleri to aid the war effort is more proof of that.
The Feanorians are the closest thing we have to true protagonists in the book and they're fan favorites, so there's a tendency to see other characters (Turgon, Thingol, Dior, Elwing, etc.) through the lens of how well the Feanorians like them or get along with them. If a character has conflict with the Feanorians, they're likely to get the villain treatment in certain circles of the fandom no matter how reasonable their actions were.
Under the cut because I rambled also lol
Above the cut I'm just going to link here to my tag for Elwing metas from other people.
There's also in some cases, I think, a discomfort with rooting for characters who have done so much wrong (see: "stanning villains" discourse), so in some places there's an effort to downplay what the Feanorians did because of course you can't like a character who is genuinely terrible! So this is where we get into making Dior and Elwing look worse than they are, so that the Feanorians look less bad by comparison (here we get the "good thing the twins were saved from their shitty and neglectful mother!" ...by the dudes who just slaughtered their entire hometown).
This is made easier by the fact that since Silm is told in such an epic fairytale style, we as readers don't have to confront the personal level of the violence the Feanorians committed. We don't see Elwing's reaction to the twins being taken hostage (besides being told that "great was [her] sorrow" for their captivity), we don't see Dior and Nimloth discussing the decision not to respond to the Feanorians' threats, we don't get a description of what Menegroth looked like after it was sacked by the Feanorians, we aren't told about Elrond and Elros trembling in fear as they're taken away by these terrible, violent Elves who killed their grandparents and their uncles and just now their mother and who may very well kill them also. That makes it easier to gloss over the practical realities of what they did (which is why it's something I'm always interested in exploring in fic).
And you're right--there is a draw in the relationship between Elrond and Elros, and Maedhros and Maglor, just because it is so improbable that they would develop any affection at all for each other. And yet, a relationship can be loving and still abusive or unhealthy, and I just cannot buy that it was healthy for Elrond and Elros to be in Maglor's care. Given where Maedhros and Maglor are at this point, they are unlikely to be doing well mentally/emotionally, and even if they were, they can't just detach themselves in the twins' mind from being the monsters who have been haunting Thingol's line for generations (See: Kidnapping and attempted forced marriage of Luthien, attempted murder of Beren, threats to attack Doriath, the Second Kinslaying, killings of Dior and Nimloth, leaving Elured and Elurin to die of exposure in the woods, threats against Elwing, the Third Kinslaying, driving Elwing to suicide). There's also a significant level of cultural loss with Elrond and Elros, which Maedhros and Maglor simply do not have the knowledge to abate. E/E are deprived of being raised in either their maternal or paternal cultures, and with the virtual extinction of the Iathrim by the end of the Third Kinslaying, much of that knowledge is simply lost, and the few people who still hold it (Oropher and his people) are kept away from the twins. Is it any wonder Elrond becomes fascinated with collecting knowledge as an adult?
Personally, I see Maglor's having kept the twins (for however long you imagine, although most of us seem to picture until at least mid-adolescence, if not full adulthood) as a deeply selfish act. They could have released the twins to Gil-galad or Cirdan or Oropher--but they chose not to, for years. I think he loved them--and I think that's why he didn't want to let them go. I think the best and most redeeming thing Maglor ever did with the twins was allowing them to leave to join Gil-galad.
And I do agree with what you said there that Elrond and Elros grew up kindly and generous more in spite of their childhood than because of it.
The Feanorians' descent into villainy in pursuit of their oath is, imo, key to their arc, and one of the most interesting things about it, so I'm not here to downplay it. Even Maedhros and Maglor realize how far gone they are! Maglor himself calls continuing to follow the oath "evil" and says that "less evil shall we do in the breaking" and Maedhros stands with the Silmaril in the end and sees that all the violence and horror he's committed has been for nothing and finds it so unbearable he is one of only two named Elves to ever commit suicide (the other being his victim, Elwing). He literally kills himself because he can't deal with what they've become (or at least, that's how I read it).
The other fascinating thing about these two is how at the end Maglor makes a couple efforts to turn away, to let go of the oath, to do something better--but he can never quite manage it. He's not willing to do it alone, and Maedhros won't do it with him, so he keeps himself stuck on this path until he's the only one left.
Rewriting them as characters who did nothing wrong deprives them of all their complexity. And honestly, you (not you you, anon) just sound like a clown when you're arguing they were justified in sacking a refugee camp because uwu property rights.
With Elwing especially I think there's also a misunderstanding about how exactly things were handled.
I think people forget that Elwing did not make the decision to keep the Silmaril alone--it was Elwing "and the people of Sirion." This was a group choice, not something Elwing imposed on them.
I think people forget the Sirionites believed the Silmaril was protecting them. This would have been especially relevant in the minds of two refugee groups who had both survived a brutal and bloody sack of their cities.
I think people don't realize that the correspondence between Elwing and Maedhros prior to the Third Kinslaying all seems to have taken place during a single voyage of Earendil's. She tells the Feanorians she can't make a final decision on the Silmaril while Earendil (one of the rulers of this city!) is at sea--but they don't wait for his return, they just attack.
And of course, once she and Earendil reached Aman, they were literally prohibited from returning to Middle-earth, so it's not like they made a choice not to come back for the kids.
Earendil and Elwing are forced to look at the big picture--that after the Third Kinslaying, even if they did return a) How exactly are they supposed to get their kids back from these notably brutal and ruthless warlords?; b) Morgoth is still there. Doing his Morgoth thing. Someone has to make it to Aman to get them to intercede. If Earendil and Elwing turned home instead of continuing West, it would be dooming the rest of the continent--yes, their kids included--to eventual destruction by Morgoth. The fact that Elrond and Elros are able to live so long and raise such prosperous realms is directly related to Earendil and Elwing's decision to keep trying to reach Aman.
You might find it reassuring how in LotR how much connection Elrond is given and expresses with Earendil and Elwing. Clearly he still views them as his parents and if he harbored any resentment (which honestly wouldn't be unreasonable as a child/teenager with a less mature understanding of the situation), it's gone by then.
And finally I just think there's a general fannish fixation on the concept of found family, so people want to force Kidnap Fam into that dynamic so badly they'll completely rewrite Maedhros and Maglor to be E/E's "true" family and ignore all of the horror of what they did leading up to literally kidnapping the twins.
ALL of which is a long-winded way of saying: yeah! you're right.

I think you are being too critical of the show to align yourself with the reviews
1) I still haven’t read the reviews (positive or negative)
2) I haven’t even said the really bad parts out loud yet because I’m hoping that the show will prove me wrong down the line.
Btw, I’m not going to do this every week fam. The reality is that I’m not a voice of authority on TCR (or anything on here really).
If you think that the show is flawless or above criticism, I’m happy for you. That would mean that you’re really enjoying it and what more could one ask for… right? Yet you are in my asks, pulling shit out of your ass, because you don’t like what I had to say.
I can guarantee that I’m having way more fun watching TCR than you are because I’m free from this goofy ass shit stans be on sometimes 🤣

Glee Song Tournament Update #1
I’m hoping to start the tournament on Sunday the 16th, but I will post a more concrete confirmation of the schedule once I get it 100% sorted
For now I wanted to talk about the songs that are included and excluded, and how I’ve set this up
What didn’t I included? Well the only two concrete answers were anything that was just a dance performance with the original song in the background (Single Ladies, Bubble Toes, etc), and any song that was album only with no filmed scene to go with it (Dancing On My Own, I Was Here, etc)
Some musical moments I left out might seem hypocritical. I left out songs by rival glee clubs that basically only served to show that yes, there is a third club competing, here’s ten seconds of their song (Broken Wings, Starlight Express, etc) but I included ten second snippets of songs from main characters (Respect, Mr. Cellophane, etc)
I also didn’t included (most) songs whose only purpose was to be bad or get cut off which unfortunately cuts out half the times Tina got to sing. Some exceptions are Crush (because we at least got a full studio version) and Pink Houses (which we heard enough of in the episode). But things like The Climb or Revolution will not be found here
Lastly, songs in deleted scenes. These were cut or kept in based on what I thought was more popular. I can understand someone being miffed if Santa Baby or I Want You Back wasn't included, but I doubt anyone would care as much about Oklahoma or Mr. Monotony (if you stan the latter two songs, I'm sorry). So I only kept in the ones I thought were more well known/liked
If you're upset about one of the above songs not being included, or think I'm not being fair, you should know that there will be 340 match ups consisting of 681 songs in round one alone. I only trimmed the tiniest amount of fat, and I promise there are still plenty of songs for you to vote on. But hopefully everyone can understand where I'm coming from and just accept what got cut x
Now, with hundreds and hundreds of songs in the mix, I wanted to do something a little more interesting than just throwing a million random match ups your way with no rhyme or reason. Bc 1) It could get boring and repetitive and 2) It could be harder to follow if it weren't split up in some cohesive way. That's where the categories come in
What are the categories? Generally speaking, they're the ways I've broken down the polls into themed sections. Hopefully this will make everything easier to follow, plus who doesn't love some good theming?? Specifically, the categories are...
Holiday Songs. All the Christmas songs + the one Hanukkah song. If you hate Christmas music, feel free to skip this round
Original Songs. Basically just any songs that aren't covers, whether it's the humorous or serious ones
Mash Ups. All the songs that are two songs combined
Same Songs. The songs that were covered multiple times on the show, pitted against one another. The only round that isn't matched up randomly
Tributes. Songs by artists/from musicals that the show frequently paid homage to (RHPS, WSS, Grease, Beatles, Britney, Fleetwood Mac, the Jackson fam, Madonna, Whitney, Stevie Wonder)(also the songs are from all eps, not just the one(s) that served as the actual tribute ep)
Musicals. Songs from musicals not listed in the last bullet point
Rivals. Songs performed by opposing glee clubs (The Warblers, Vocal Adrenaline, etc)
Guest Stars. Songs performed by, or heavily featuring, any of Glee's numerous celebrity cast members
New Directions. Songs performed by the main club. (Not necessarily a group number. Could be sung by half the club, or even two or three people, but as long as the rest of the club is there vibing, it counts)
Solos. Songs sung by one main or recurring character
Duets. Songs sung by two main or recurring characters
Misc. Everything else! Mostly trios, quartets, or group numbers that go beyond just ND
Of course there are plenty of songs that could fit into multiple categories. For example, "Somewhere" could fall under Tribute, Guest Star, and Duet, but will only be included in one of those. So if you think I left something out of a certain category, don't worry, you'll see it pop up in a different one later!
So I think that's all the basics so far. If you have any questions you can send them here or on my main @angelhummel

I love reading your insightful thoughts on topics regarding mha and especially touya you alone bring my hype up
I just wanted to ask, after having read your rei meta (which I agree with wholeheartedly) I can't help but feel kind of a distaste towards some actions towards some members BECAUSE of the narrative framing
Rei calling her son "dabi" in the hospital scene was so distasteful considering she was ready to forgive her husband after everything but it almost narratively seems she holds no such regard towards the son whose demise she took part in regardless of intention
Also in the mental hospital scene where fuyumi was telling that "natsuo is the only one who isn't letting begones be begone" like hello? we are talking about you dead brother who mer his end due to your father's actions?
I don't know I am pretty sure it's because of horikoshi and I shouldn't think like this blaming the characters because he is the writer after all but the way he writes rei and fuyumi sometimes is so distasteful to me that I almost wish touya never returns to that home where he was labeled a black sheep simply for being self aware because of how they used him as a scrapegoat especially in the hospital chapter
Ps i am well aware touya will probably reunite with his family and all will be well but it's the narrative choices that kind of make me dislike them even endeavor who is pathetic is at leadt enjoyable to read in a sense that he stays true to character to an extent. Shouto is on the way of reaching an epiphany about how to reach his brother as family instead of a hero so i still have hope for him and natsuo is still true to character kind of in the hospital chapters but fuyumi and rei got me fighting against everything in me to not dislike them. Even toga and freaking afo calls him touya but his family is stuck with dabi like bffr
Hey! First of all, thank you for reading my stuff! I'm glad it can bring you some positivity in these otherwise trying times as a Touya stan.
Now, to answer you... I debated how best to approach this reply, because there's a number of ways I could go about this. But you specifically mentioned the framing, so I'm gonna build my argument on that.
So. How is Horikoshi framing Touya in the eyes of the Todofam? As you said yourself, they’re treating him like the black sheep to Shouto's golden child, and uniting to stop him.
From what I understand, though, you seem dissatisfied with the execution because you think that while every other fam member acts coherent about either blaming or wanting to rescue Touya, the Todoroki women are outliers because they have instances where they go back on that resolve to save him to blame Touya instead.
Am I getting this correctly?
If so, I think there is a problem with that conclusion. It's not just the women who go back and forth, and in fact, I think Rei and Fuyumi are the mildest ones of the bunch. But for reasons that I'm going to dissect later, I also think the fandom… latches on to them as exceptions, and in the process doesn't understand that it's meant to be a family narrative in which all of them are imperfect.
(putting this under a cut for length)
I think it’s important to remember that all the Todorokis agreed that Touya needs stopping. Not just Rei and Enji, or not even just the two heroes, Shouto and Enji. All of them gathered in that hospital room to discuss family matters, and they reached that conclusion as a collective decision.
Now, I’m stressing this because the language they used is peculiar. We all noticed that they said that Touya needs stopping, not saving. But when it comes to the Todofam, that word carries a certain weight, and I don’t think it was used randomly here.
As this person pointed out in this post, Touya was always asked to “stop” whenever his self-awareness or his attempts to be acknowledged disrupted the family dynamics. This is less apparent if you haven’t checked out the revised flashbacks in chapter 302. But the fact that Horikoshi went back to alter the storyboard and narration for the tankobon release means he wanted to draw more attention to something, to make it clearer for the audience. And indeed, the why becomes clear when we see Shouto confront Dabi and echo the same words: “please, stop.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Todorokis haven’t yet reached a place where they can fully sympathize with Touya. In Shouto’s case, it’s because he doesn’t know his brother; he can empathize with Touya’s circumstances, but not with Touya’s reasons. After all, Shouto is a successful creation. He never faced the brunt of the entire family’s blame and disappointment. As a result, he doesn’t understand that this approach is doomed to fail, because it echoes the scoldings Dabi’s used to.
Whenever someone tried to reason with Touya, it was always framed as if the root of Touya’s unhappiness (and the family’s by extension) was his refusal to quit his ambitions. Basically, they told him that it was his fault, and not his father’s for putting those ambitions in him. Even if it’s Enji who’s guilty of rewriting Touya’s sense of self around an impossible goal, the one who’s held accountable for it is the victim.
Not only do they all ask Touya to stop over and over (and not his father), but Touya’s also blamed for the fallout of Enji’s abuse. First, he was framed as the reason for Enji to keep making replacements, then for why Enji isolated Shouto from his siblings. It’s always because of him. Because Touya couldn’t quit.
Even now that the family supposedly knows better, they’re still struggling to move on from that pattern. Just like how back then Touya was always singled out as the disruption, as the element of unrest, Dabi is still pushed into this role. Except now he’s singled out as the disruptive element that exacerbates not only the inner dynamics of the family, but of society as a whole. Once again, his refusal to stop is making things worse for everyone willing to just lay down and take it in silence. Because of it, he’s not regarded with sympathy. Instead, all the flaws he addresses are his responsibility to bear. It doesn’t matter if those issues existed before him. He becomes the suitable scapegoat.
Now, all of these are things you seem well aware of. But you still singled out Fuyumi and Rei as subjects of your ire, and I don’t think that’s entirely fair. If this was something we could blame just on one character, or just on Rei and Enji as parents, we wouldn’t have heard the same words repeated by multiple family members. We would’ve at least seen someone push back against them.
Instead, even Shouto is still torn between seeing Touya as a villain and as his older brother. Linkspooky wrote an excellent post on this recently that I encourage you to check out.
This makes sense for him because Dabi was just a villain to him until a while ago. He has no solid memories of Touya because as a kid he wasn’t allowed to exist in the same room as his siblings. Yet, he has several memories of his brother as an enemy. He fought against him. Dabi kidnapped his classmate. So that mental divide is at least somewhat justified. It’s hard to wrap your head around the fact that your presumed dead brother, who you only saw as a normal kid in your sparse memories, committed atrocities and tried to kill you and your dad (and himself).
However, I also think this divide works on a societal scale as well. During the present arc, we’ve seen the hero kids struggle to reconcile the idea of the League as victims with the crimes they’ve committed. Those two sides should coexist; one doesn’t exclude the other. Hurting people doesn’t mean someone can’t have hurt you first. The kids seem aware of this, unlike the rest of society. They see the League’s victimhood. The problem is, they still think in terms of which side weighs in more, which one deserves more of their heroic efforts. And because the people they’ve hurt are multiple, while their victimhood only involves a single person, the good of the many always ends up being more important than showing sympathy.
This is what happens with Uraraka, for example. She remembers Toga’s tears, and wants to help her smile, but because Toga is part of the League and wreaked havoc in several cities with the PLF, killing many innocents… that sympathy becomes conditional. So Uraraka looks at the destroyed landscape to remind herself that there’s also another side of Toga. One less worthy of her concern. One that deserves it, because this suffering she’s experiencing is Toga’s own fault. If Toga wants to live her version of a happy life, she tells her, she also must be ready to live with the consequences.
This sentiment is the same that Shouto later directs at his brother. You can’t blame dad for the lives you took, he tells Touya, because you did those things, not Endvr. They are your own fault.
The problem with this approach is that it asks victims to put their shit together on their own, for everyone else’s convenience, without anyone else involved in fixing a broken system. And most importantly, it also asks victims to face the consequences of their actions, while also turning around and not holding abusers accountable for their own.
The fact that this idea is explored through Toga and Shigaraki as well makes me think it goes beyond the Todofam’s dysfunctionality. But to bring this back to them…
Do I think it’s distasteful that the framing treats Touya this way? Yes. It hurts to watch on a near constant basis, even when I know there’s likely a reason for it. But at the same time, I dislike on principle when people hold Rei and Fuyumi to a higher standard than the men in the house for displaying character flaws.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not accusing you of purposeful malice or anything like that. You're clearly struggling against your instinctive dislike, and you came here to discuss it, so I presume you're looking for reasons to either reinforce it, or to let go of it. I hope that by the end of this, you will find some more reasons to be kind to them regardless of the quality of the writing.
What I’ve noticed during my time in this fandom is a certain... expectation, almost...? for women to always perform the role of "perfect victims", with the penance of getting the brunt of the fandom's anger when they don't.
What does that even mean?
In short, women in fiction aren't given the same leniency as their male counterparts when it comes to displaying said flaws. While for men having any is typically regarded as a good thing because it gives the character depth, when women do something “wrong,” they get crucified.
I believe this happens in the bnha fandom as well, particularly amongst Todofam stans. While Shouto, Natsuo and Touya are all allowed to be imperfect, and their rough edges get widely recognized as faucets of trauma, Fuyumi and Rei aren't given the same sympathy.
As I mentioned above, Shouto gets to be undecided and to direct unkind words to his brother without the same backlash from fans. Natsuo is allowed to put faith in Enji because he shows reluctance to trust his old man. But the women are hated because they take a less belligerent approach to Enji’s atonement.
I believe that the reason why so many fans struggle to like Fuyumi and Rei is because they misread them. Their lack of outright hostility is widely interpreted as forgiveness, when in fact, it’s not quite written that way. I find that equating their willingness to let Enji try to be a better person with forgiveness is a flattening of their depth as abuse survivors.
I think much of the blame Rei faces isn’t actually rooted in anything particularly bad she did in canon. Most of the things we can blame her for are also things that Enji did alongside her, and Enji did them with far more cruelty and selfishness. But! I also think that some people have an instinctual dislike of her because she’s written with a lot of stereotypes of submissive femininity in mind, and that understandably makes a lot of folks uncomfortable.
What I’ve seen is that because Enji is a pos, people have turned to Rei in hopes she could be a better parent, or someone okay-ish enough to make up for the bad, you know? And that’s totally fair. I’ve done the same. But I also think that in the process, people sort of created this idealized version of her that then didn’t live up to her canon characterization. They—perhaps subconsciously—wanted her to be a good victim and a good mom, when she’s meant to be neither. I think she’s more nuanced than that, and that perfect victims don’t really exist anyway.
But because they expected her to balance out Enji’s bad, they don’t really know what to make of a character who’s now written to parallel him in many ways. While she did not hit her kids, she still hurt them in other ways. While she tried her best to oppose her husband’s will, she still didn’t oppose it in a way that mattered when it came to Touya’s mental well-being in particular. Just like Enji, she was shown to be neglectful and avoidant of her eldest.
This makes her a nuanced character. Just like Touya, she can have done horrible things and still be a victim because the two things can coexist. But expecting her to be just one over the other, ironically, results in the same scapegoating Touya’s being subjected to by the narrative.
The fact that she’s a victim and that she ended up hurting others as a result of unaddressed and spiraling mental health problems aren’t factors that are battling for dominance. You’re not supposed to look at her and think “the bad she’s done outweighs the good, hence she doesn’t deserve any sympathy.” If you’re not doing that for Touya, why are you doing it for her?
To address the one complaint you mentioned about her, the fact that she calls her son “Dabi.”
She does that once.
Tumblr media
In fact, if you look at it closely you’ll notice something interesting. She calls him “Dabi” when she’s thinking of him as a villain. When the topic of fighting comes up, and with it, the emotional baggage that “stopping” Touya already has as an ongoing theme. But Rei also calls him “our son” when she’s apologizing to Hawks for the burns, and she calls him “Touya” when she’s confronting Enji. To me, this confirms the idea I talked about above, the mental divide that makes it harder to reconcile the villain with the crying boy they remember. Rei, like Shouto, loves Touya, but her reaction isn’t perfect because she’s an imperfect victim living in a flawed world.
In the grand scheme of things, the issue with the framing of Touya as a bad sheep does exist, but I don’t blame it on Rei specifically. I think there’s a fundamental difference between her calling her son “Dabi” that one time versus Enji privately thinking of Touya as a mass murderer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting this out there for those who can’t read japanese. The word (in kanji) Enji uses here reads tairyousatsujinsha. Which means indeed “mass murderer.” We only know that he’s even referring to Touya because the furigana (which typically shows the actual reading of the word in kanji) reads a different word, musuko, “son.”
So, sure, might be more internally coherent as an asshole who can’t face his actions, but getting angry at Rei for calling Touya “Dabi” seems rather… mean-spirited imho, when it’s not even on the same magnitude of alienation Enji shows for the blood of his blood here. He doesn’t even call him the more generic word for villain. Not his chosen villain moniker, either. He goes straight for the moral upper ground of calling attention to Dabi’s crimes, when he can’t even properly own up to his own.
Anyway. Moving on, there’s also the topic of Fuyumi. You mentioned that her line “letting bygones stay bygones” was in the hospital chapters, but I couldn’t find it there. Were you by chance referencing this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
because if so, I believe the above panel on the left comes from a fan scanlation. If you compare it to the official Viz translation, her words don't carry quite the same edge. Now, the wording is similar enough that it might be an instance of Viz correcting the release at a later date (it has happened before. Japanese is a tricky language).
But since you quoted this line, let’s discuss the nuance.
In the picture on the left, Fuyumi appears less sympathetic towards Natsu. It reads like she's blaming him for being too stubborn to let the past go, while also minimizing the extent of his trauma as something that can be just… brushed off. As something that should stay in the past.
As opposed to that, the version on the right puts more emphasis on the process of grieving, on Natsuo's mental well-being. "Can't seem to let go" still carries the same implication that closure on Touya’s death is desirable, but her phrasing is soft enough that it comes across like she's sad about Natsuo’s sadness. Like she wishes he'd let himself find some peace, after all this time.
I'm bringing up both these versions because I wanted to compare and contrast them to the original. See, the jp text says this:
Tumblr media
Which translates to: "Only Natsuo can't lower his raised fist."
Being fair to the eng translation, all these versions more or less say the same thing. She's still singling out Natsuo for reacting differently from the rest of them. Which does indeed seem like she’s blaming him for it.
However, the original wording has a completely different nuance imho. By bringing attention to his raised fist, Fuyumi is commenting on Natsuo using anger as a coping mechanism to deal with his grief. The emphasis then is not so much on whether or not she thinks he should "let go" or "let bygones be bygones," but on the fact that Natsuo is stuck in that defense position. His fists are permanently raised, and he cannot let them lower. He's constantly poised for a fight, and as a result, he always slams headfirst into one.
I think this confirms my reading of Fuyumi as a mediator, as someone trying her best to de-escalate all the fighting in the house.
In this post I explained why I think she's stuck into a part herself. As the big sister who stepped into the role of caretaker at a young age, Fuyumi displays all the traits of someone who learned early on to fear explosive tempers, and resorted to acting like the patient one to protect her siblings. She sorta acts like a… fire-retardant blanket, so to say. She attempts to put out fires before they can get bigger by sucking out the air that keeps them alight. She’s shown doing this with Natsuo during dinner, and she’s shown often playing mediator to avoid explosive tempers from bursting.
I think a lot of people read her as someone pursuing her idea of a perfect family because she remembers a time where things were better and wants that again. The problem with that, imho, is when people call her selfish for it. When they say she’s pressuring her brothers into forgiving Enji like she did. I find that—at least the latter part—a malicious misreading rooted in badly hidden misogyny. Why is she not allowed to want things that are at odds with her brother’s wishes, but her siblings are allowed to want things that are at odds with hers? Why is she perceived as selfish for it, but her brothers are not? And why is the reading of her as forceful in this pursuit so widespread, when she made no attempts to steer Natsuo back in both times he stormed out the room?
It seems to me like the same issue with Rei. Fuyumi needs to be a good victim and a good sister, or be crucified if she dares have flaws and imperfections. But again, just like Rei, she’s a victim as well, and she has trauma too. I think people shouldn’t presume that her feelings for her abuser are clearcut and black and white.
I know it’s easy to dislike her because she seemingly “forgave” Enji, but so far she’s never stated that. It’s the audience’s inference that she has. The fact that she wants a shot at having a more normal family doesn’t mean she thinks Enji did a 180°. It just means she’s willing to give him a chance to be a better person, which is something that Shouto’s also shown doing. But because Shouto remains hostile while Fuyumi makes an effort to treat Enji like a person, it’s widely assumed she must have no complex feelings for her father, or that she’s okay with moving on.
I find that an oversimplification. Don’t get me wrong, I know the Todoroki women are much less fleshed out than the men. Rei doesn’t even have a character profile yet. But because of this, I wish the fandom didn’t jump for their throat based on those few sparse lines we do have. Just because Horikoshi hates women doesn’t mean we should all follow in his example
Let’s all allow ourselves to think these characters can have depth. To experiment and play with ideas when something’s yet unconfirmed, to headcanon and theorize and fill the gaps of missing info like we do for other (male) characters. I promise it’s much more fun than getting angry or upset at all the failings from canon
If that's not your cup of tea... that's fine, but I hope I was at least able to make you consider something you hadn't thought of before

DAMN IT HARADA. jfc I'm excited and mad at the same time! Maybe I'm high on cope but this still doesn't show everything, like someone said maybe Kazuya is taunting him, but then again we all know how bad the writing can get. And some annoying Kazuya stans are already starting to say Jin is the real villain of the story I'm gonna be sick lmao
Tumblr media
I FEEL LIKE BOOBOO THE FOOL RIGHT NOW.
But HONESTLY, to continue our sweet coping! We can look at some bright sides for that Hope: As you, others, and I've also realized: It could very well just be Kazuya taunting him. Especially since Kazuya is still... weirdly acting all High and Mighty. As if he's the "better" of the two. (This could be just bc Kaz accepts his "destructive nature" while Jin feels hypocritical to him.) Which kinda reminds me of how Kaz was acting in Tek6, trying to present himself as the better guy. So, this could be a manipulative act from Kazuya to try to get under Jin's skin, and try to get Jin to blunder. Jin could not be correcting Kazuya, because he does feel genuinely guilty. Like even if Jin wasn't in control or brainwashed, he still feels like he should've been stronger to prevent that from happening. Also, it IS the first 4 minutes, too. So, if it is clever writing (or decent writing for that matter) it could be setting things up, making us think things are different just to surprise us, y'know?
HOWEVERRR... even if they really ARE just gonna go with "Jin DID do that but it's okay because of the flimsy reasons we've given since that mess. :)" then I actually still don't see them making Kazuya the True Hero of the game. Why? Because I think the writing would be that bad that they think Jin's actions ARE excused because he's "sorry" and that he's trying to "make it up to everyone." Because the game's writing before has shown it has warped perceptions of character's actions. Hell, Harada doesn't even think Heihachi is that bad of a guy, even compared to Kazuya. (Which Heihachi is either just as bad, or WORSE lmao) Did everyone in the fandom just... forget that Heihachi was seen as the "better" of him and Kazuya in the games? Because if that happens, then why is everyone thinking Jin is still gonna be the bad guy despite his actions lmao?
And again... it still doesn't explain Lars' feelings towards Jin (or many of the other characters for that matter.) You could also say "aah, it's just the first 4 minutes! We don't REALLY know how Lars feels around Jin." But not only was he rooting him on in that story mode there, he's also friendly with him in their unique intro - they act like bros! And like, it'd be one thing if they were already acting this way in Tek7... but they weren't! Lars acts like he HATES Jin's guts. He even practically tells the Journalist that he would've killed Jin, too - but he's ONLY keeping Jin alive so that he can defeat Kazuya. So how do you get to "I wanna fucking kill you for all the pain you put me and everyone else through" to "Let's spar and fist bump fam! I believe in you!" Like that weird transition just made me BELIEVE that Lars must've had a revelation.... that it must have NOT been Jin's fault in some way, and Lars after discovering this, had started to warm up to his nephew. So yeah, to explain THIS ALONE, they're gonna need more than just Jin saying "I'm sowwy I feel bad. :(" Because remember "SO YOU STARTED A FREAKING WAR?" Like if Lars wasn't having it in TWO GAMES, he's not gonna have it all of a sudden in this game LOL.
I'm also going to avoid Reddit rn. Like I think I'm not gonna log on to it for a loooooong time. Just because there was already a handful of people bashing on Jin and saying Kazuya Is/Should Be the Main Hero, and Jin's irredeemable garbage. And this actually feels like fuel to that fire, and it's probably gonna cause an explosion. And I just... yeah. I don't feel like witnessing that explosion. Even if my hopes of it actually being retconned ARE true... we won't know until the game is actually out. And that's still a few months away, so that means there are still lots of time for people to just bash on the characters and stuff, and Tek6 in general is probs gonna be brought up a lot more. And I'm just not looking forward to that. Probably for the best, anyway - since I was using Reddit a lil too much.
Anyway, to end, I've seen some spoilers that were found in CNT via datamining, and it does potentially help with my coping too LOL. I will be talking about this under a readmore because they could be potential massive spoilers.
Tumblr media
Azazel's pose was found in the CNT. Jin's only doing this here because the pose was just "code" - somebody had to apply it to a fighter to show that the code is indeed there, and see what the code looks like in the game. That's def Azazel's pose from Tek6! Many people think, due to the stage that looks like a reference to Tek6's throne room, that Jin will just have a mental battle with Azazel as a way to "fight his demons." Buuuuuut I actually don't think that's it. I think we're gonna see the REAL Azazel, he may even be the final boss.
Tumblr media
Because Zafina is base game. She WASN'T base game in Tek7, only DLC. Why is she base game now? Hmmm... remember? Zafina's still "possessed" by Azazel. I think she's gonna play a MAJOR role in the story. I think she's gonna be why/how Azazel returns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally... the FIRST THING I theorized when the story trailer released nearly a year ago. Kazuya's tie clip. It looks like it could be Azazel's skull + his horns. Isn't that also kinda sus? Why would Kazuya be wearing an image of Azazel? Could he still be under Azazel's influence? Like there are already so many things pointing to Azazel.
So, my verdict is... as much as I adore my own concepts, I really thought it was more unlikely for the game to place the blame on DJ. Especially just because DJ and Jin might be in a kind of Truce right now? They might be working together? Given DJ reaching out to Jin in the beginning of the story trailer, and DJ still being on the roster, and DJ POSSIBLY being in the first five minutes. So yeah. Right now I'm banking on Azazel was brainwashing Jin (and maybe even Kazuya, who knows) Because Azazel, being the creator of the devil gene and once ruler of humanity, just has that power. The devils are his puppets, and he can control them... they must break free of his chains. Which I HOPE this is it, and they just don't have Azazel pop up in the final act so Jin and Kazuya can be like "he's the REAL reason why we had to start this war!111!!1 He threatened our world and we were FORCED to plunge it into despair to draw him out!111!!!" But we'll see.... we'll see.
Of course, if Azazel's brainwashing is what happens. It'll make me happy. But my blog will have to STILL be canon divergent just because I love my ideas too much of DJ doing the war, and I love the development I put him through with it. :3

Second Chair Spark Ch 13
Tumblr media
Warnings: Language, smut. Fam, I’m 99% sure this is the end of this fic, I don’t really know how to wrap it up otherwise, (plus who TF knew it would end up being 13 fcking chapters?!) I know I don’t want it to end super fluffy cause it’s not that kinda fic, so I guess send in your requests/prompts/even just a character so I have some shit to do this quarantine! Also yes, in this house we stan Liz Donnelly & Rita Calhoun…
***
A few weeks had passed since the squad had found out about the shenanigans going on at the D.A.’s office, and while there was some teasing, it came to a stop when Casey blew up, admitting to them that it was more than a hook up, you were her girlfriend (and you’d started talking about moving in together considering how much time you were at her apartment anyways). You’d beamed at her, promptly not caring about being in the middle of the bull pen when you pulled her into a kiss, knowing it would make half the squad embarrassed while the other half simply cheered. You still spent most of your time on joint cases, though your case load was nearly to the point that you were practically working solo, but it worked, you had a system by now, barely needing to communicate before a trial started. And those trials were still spent completely torturing the other, playing into each other’s games so by the time you retreated to Casey’s office or the apartment you were both drenched and could barely keep your hands off each other.
Rita would openly groan whenever she walked up to see both of you outside interrogation, Nikki always liked the challenge, and Buchanan slowly started to accept you into the world of lawyers. After you’d wiped the floor with his 5th client, a smirk on your face as you turned back towards the gallery, knowing that no one had been able to break the perp yet, he actually congratulated the both of you, mentioning he must owe you a drink. (Which honestly, you both politely declined, claiming there was too much paperwork to be done).
Despite the detectives and Rita knowing about your relationship, your games in the courtroom were far from coming to a halt, you still used them to trap each other, being so fucking turned on that you’d barely make it to privacy before pouncing on each other. At least now everyone was overly cautious to knock and then wait for at least a vocal reply if not one of you opening the door for them before they entered.
You were currently working together on a sex trafficking ring case that you were obviously taking the cross examination on, Casey had interviewed multiple suspects, edging you on the entire time with the way she inflicted her voice, the raised brow she’d give the gallery that was so obviously intended for you, the way she’d bite her lip while concentrating.  You brought your fucking A game when it came your turn to talk to the mastermind pimp, Casey not missing that you discreetly undid one button lower than appropriate for the courtroom on your shirt. Your hair was loose today, your lips plump with a red lipstick, your voice smooth as velvet as you tortured the asshole who spent years torturing girls. You basically sauntered your way through the courtroom, leading the asshole on, if she hadn’t know any better Casey would think you were even flirting with him past your normal amount. You pulled your usual weakness stance, hands leant against the barrier of the box so the perp could really drink you in, she saw his eyes linger, much longer than normal down your shirt before he stuttered over your question. A few more rounds of back and fourth and he was fucking putty in the palm of your hand, and to be completely honest, so was Casey.
The jury left to deliberate, not giving you enough time to sneak off, especially since Olivia and Elliot kept commending you on how insanely well you’d handled the trial. They’d handed you a wreck of a case (which, on separate occasions, you’d both let them know) and now you were coming out miles ahead of the defence. Before you’d managed to escape the multiple people talking to you, the jury was back, naturally, all guilty.
**
As fast as you could disappear from that courtroom you could, barely managing to keep your hands off each other before you reached Casey’s office, her hands buried into your hair, pulling you against her, moaning against your lips. Your hands traced around her body, squeezing her breasts, pinching at her nipples as her hand found its way up your skirt. She chuckled against your lips at how fucking drenched you were already.
“So fucking hot baby girl.” She murmured, pushing you back against her desk. Her tongue slipped into your mouth, gasping against you as you pulled her hopelessly close to you, her free hand reached out, pulling open the top drawer of her desk as she dug around for a second before she managed to get the ring vibe on her thumb. You did you best not to shriek as her hand made its way back to your cunt, fingers buried within you, the vibe directly on your clit as she pushed down against it, rubbing the vibrations in circles as your body shivered against her. Casey could feel your arousal drenching her hand, slicking your thighs as she continued to press against you, her teeth biting into your lips. You pussy pulsating around her fingers when a brash knock on the door interrupted you. You whipped apart from each other, you couldn’t help but drop into her desk chair, not sure if your legs could hold you up right now, Casey hit the button to turn the vibe off as she called a soft ‘come in’.
None other than your boss Liz Donnelly entered the room, and she didn’t look impressed.
“Judge Donnelly..” You somehow managed to pull yourself together before Casey did.
“There’s no need with the  fanciness,” She started, “You both know this building leaks like a sieve, right?” You both nodded, somewhat confused,  “So why is that I am just now finding out that that the two of you have been screwing around for over a year?” You felt your face pale, you could practically feel Casey’s heart stop.
“Well we..” Liz was quick to cut her off,
“When I told you to figure out whatever the hell was going on between you…this isn’t exactly what I meant!”  You both stumbled over your words at an attempt to respond, “That being said, I’m glad you two finally came to your senses and fucked because we were all going insane having to deal with your bullshit.” THAT certainly thew you both off,
“Elizabeth I…” Casey began,
“Don’t..honestly, I’m happy for you.” She moved a couple of steps back, “Though if you use my courtroom as a goddamn thirst trap for each other ever again I’m charging you both in contempt.”
“Yes…” You both managed out, she was almost out the door when she turned back for one more,
“And Casey…” Novak looked up at her, “I’m really hoping your hand wasn’t up Gerard’s skirt 5 seconds before I knocked on the door.” Donnelly may have disappeared faster than she came barreling in, but she knew exactly what was going on. You’d both moved so quickly Casey hadn’t removed the vibe from her thumb (at least it was turned off). Everyone knew now…and there was no hiding it…maybe it really was best if you kept your sexual shenanigans at home….but where was the fun in that?!

Not jokers crying behind Anon and trying to shift the narrative that its Jimin stans' fault for what happened during 'FACE' 😭🤣🤣
Really?? Pjms are the ones to blame for Jimin's promo getting cut to 9 days?? Saying that WE pressured him? When it was clearly the company? (Y'know, the same company who sabotaged him since day 01, still IS sabotaging him & didn't even acknowledged his No.1 on BBHot100) And then you got a whole ass Min Yoongi laughing right in Jimin's face during Ddeunddeun Show because HE knew Jimin's promo would be cut off so that HE could begin HIS promo before going off on tour?
Like I'm sorry ya'll had to find out today in the worst possible way that your ship is not real, fam. But I think instead of putting the blame on others, maybe take this as a sign that ya'll really need to wake up and start considering getting... i dunno...
THERAPY FINALLY?

Something I really like about the Jonsa fandom is that so many of us are actually OK with the possibility that Jonsa will not happen in the books. Jon and Sansa will be alive and they will have the possibility of future interactions. But Dany is dead, dead, dead, and will be dead because Jon had to kill her. How does anyone get around that except by denial and rationalizing?
Me @ the start of this message: so sweet, we love our chill Jonsa fam! So much positivity today! 🥰
Me @ the “dead dead dead” part: “actually, being a petty bitch is a rewarding pastime. Don’t mind if I do” 😂🤣
Tumblr media
I know after s8 a lot of Jxnerys fans wrote post canon fics to fix things and apparently as long as Jon groveled and/or killed Sansa, shippers found a way to get them back together (I didn’t read, this is secondhand information) which is amazing to me because a lot of Jonsas stopped shipping Jonsa after s8 because they were so appalled by Jon’s behavior, but mass murder and the subsequent assassination weren’t insurmountable obstacles for the other shippers 😂 I cringe when I see pics of Jon stabbing/holding Dany in the finale, I cant imagine wanting them to be together after that. And weirdly, for show shippers, a disturbing amount are more upset with Jon for killing Dany than they are with Dany for murdering kids. They just have a wildly different moral reference point than I do, so I can’t offer an explanation.
For book fans, from what I’ve seen, most Dany stans reject the idea that Dany will go bad/burn KL in the books, so it’s easy for them to imagine a happy ending or at least a tragic love story for her and Jon—one in which Jon doesn’t stabby stab her. I might not like that they’re ignoring or defending all the crap she’s already done, but I actually find that less disturbing than the ASOIAF fans who know she will burn KL but still think she’s a good person and will end up with Jon after that. At least the former genuinely believe that their version of Dany and Jon can offer each other good things, the latter sounds like a really fucked up thing to wish on book Jon!

I completely agree team green is much more divided- it’s riddled with antis, far more than team black. My own personal opinion is a lot of them are Aemond “stans” who fell in love with this one singular character (more the actor- which is fine! There’s nothing wrong with being a fan lmao) but they now pretend they like everyone else in his fam too 😭😭 And they need everyone to know they are against “problematic” content and ships Whereas with TB, Daemon stans either came from f&b and are familiar with him as a character, or they understand he does creepy shit in the show and they still like him lol. This level of Aemond fans sort of deny a lot of his canonical traits/already woobify his future actions. So to them, anyone who wants to write fic where he’s weird or creepy or a genocidal teen burning villages is Wrong.
Rhaenyra stans are their own thing and a lot of the show only fans obviously see her as a very sympathetic figure, which makes senses bc HOTD leans into that but time. I also have a theory that TB fans who fell for Aemond are the majority of Lucemond shippers and that’s how we got to wherever that it; but I digress.
aemondwives are definitely very gatekeep-y about aemond and are going to have a rude awakening when he starts having his hot girl autumn in the riverlands. lucemonds shippers are TB in the majority bc there's no way. there are hardly any greens interested in luke, lbr. i actually wonder whether lucemond will maintain its popularity or will be supplanted by daemond.
daemon stans are more divided than that - there's a section of them that truly see him as a malewife. remember how shocked they were that he would choke rhaenyra. some are still insisting it's OOC.

I'm literally so crushed, we only got 1 season of Joseph's Adar and I was looking forward to more. Why does nothing good ever last 😭 "Why do the people I love always have to go away?" - Poppy 😢
Tumblr media
^^^This is literally my face rn and it shall remain so for the forseeable future.
Legitimately I cannot remember the last time a character grabbed me THIS HARD. As in, hard enough to start a DEDICATED SIDEBLOG and dive back into writing fanfiction. The sadness today is REAL.
But I'm trying to focus on a few things, which are:
We have Joseph Mawle's amazing Season 1 episodes. He laid the foudation for this character, and we will ALWAYS have that.
The Adar stans are incredible! I love being a part of this little weird daddy-obsessed corner of the internet.
We still have lots of time before S2 premieres, so in the meantime, I'm gonna continue to think about and moon over and create content based on Joe's Adar.
The ones we love never truly leave us!
Big hugs, Adar fam. We're gonna get through this.
