Make Local Retailers Your Valentine This Holiday
Tumblr media
We love love. And we love our neighborhood communities. So in the spirit of Valentine's Day, here's the best way to show some love to your local retailers:
Spend. Your. Money. Locally.
There are many ways to support small businesses, such as giving a shout out to the great team at Waxman Candles (pictured above) on your socials or writing a positive review online about how much you love their candle selection. But the biggest way you can love your local retailers is to support them by choosing to spend your funds locally. Shop small for your Valentine's Day gifts, drinks, treats and eats. Find a list of gift ideas here and special Valentine's Day menus here.
Then, share with us and your community why you LOVE to shop local! Create an Instagram story or feed post sharing a reason why you love to shop local and tag us at @thisislakeview and @roscoevillagechamber and we'll share it on our Instagram story! Tune into our stories to hear from your neighbors as we spread the love of shopping local among our community. You can also send us a video to be featured via email at [email protected].
A big THANK YOU to everyone who has been prioritizing shopping small during the pandemic and beyond.

Ways to Celebrate Black History Month as an Ally
Tumblr media
February is Black History Month. Black history IS history - so we encourage you to do the work this month and become an active ally.
Educate yourself on Chicago’s racist history. Read up on the Chicago race riot of 1919 and the housing discrimination and redlining that continues to this day.
Celebrate the successes of prominent black Chicagoans, like Gwendolyn Brooks, Harold Washington, Richard Wright. Read their works, listen to their speeches, learn to their stories.
Donate your time and your money to local non-profits and community organizations working toward dismantling systemic racism. Becoming part of a community organizing group offers opportunity to take direct action, learn useful tools and strategies, and build relationships. Get involved with Chicago BIPOC-focused organizations like Assata’s Daughters, Lighthouse Foundation Chicago, My Block My City My Hood, or Black Lives Matter Chicago.
Support black-owned business. Order from black owned restaurants. Shop black owned retailers, like Lakeview home goods store, Recycled Modern, which features a black history art collection (pictured above). Support black artists, makers, and movers. You can find some Chicago black-owned businesses to support at https://blackownedchicago.com/

Chicago Moves To Phase Four
State officials announced Sunday that Chicago is advancing from Tier 1 to Phase 4 of Illinois’ reopening plan. The move loosens some restrictions for businesses in the city. For example, the city’s nonessential curfew has been lifted; at bars and restaurants, bar seating is now allowed and indoor tables can seat up to six people. Additionally, performance venues and movie theaters can operate at 40% capacity with a maximum of 50 people per space indoors and retailers must also limit capacity to 40%.
However, capacity limits of 25% for indoor service at bars and restaurants remain in place. On Friday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot explained that, in order to prevent an uptick in positivity rates, Chicago would not immediately ease restrictions on indoor dining and drinking should the city move into Phase 4. You can find a complete overview of Chicago's Phase 4 regulations here.
