Want to hear my fun little TSC afterlife headcanon? Cool.

So basically, there are two sides of the Great River. Will waits on one for Jem and Tessa. The TLH characters cross over really quickly and enter into the Shadowhunter afterlife.

Because Will has not crossed the river, the TLH characters take it upon themselves to build a gorgeous home for Will, Jem, and Tessa to all live in together. James chooses a basic decor theme and adds fixtures like wallpaper and lighting; Matthew provides aesthetic features like paintings, sculptures, and other artwork. Anna and Ari add unique, one-of-a-kind curiosities in random corners; Christopher and Grace, who finally are together, build all of the clocks and gizmos inside the house. Thomas, a handyman, builds annexes and reading corners and windows with natural lighting. Alastair and Cordelia create a gorgeous music room for Jem complete with perfect acoustics.

Despite them going and sitting on the other side of the river to chat with Will regularly, they never share this with him. When Jem shows up and eventually sits next to Will as they wait for Tessa and throw things at the steady stream of ducks that heaven has supplied them, they don't tell him, either.

Tessa gets there, and the three of them cross over holding hands. They're immediately greeted by a massive but cozy house that their children, nieces, and nephews have spent over a century lovingly crafting for them.

Cellphone spying! TDA Edition (;TWP)

(I'll be asking this same question to respective other sub-fandoms in the Shadowhunter community so that we have a net-profit of fantastic phone snooping of our own favs)

What are their most used apps, their background photos, their favourite social media, and do they have a pop socket or a special kind of case? etc.! Let's get started!

This ask applies to each TDA cast member of note as well TWP (mainly just to emphasis that KiTy and Dru matter! haha)

❤️‍🔥 Type of Phone: Do they use their phone a lot? What brand is it? What type of model is it? Are they interested in a lot of gadgets or is it very outdated? Does it have a cracked screen? Do they splurge often to buy their phone? Why is it that model?

❤️‍🔥Type of Phone case- Is it utilitarian? Is it branded? Is it funny quirky and often changed up to match certain outfits? Or does it have a string around sometimes just to be useful for i.e. when they take shifts and are on patrol so they have and its very to have a case that wraps around them? What colour is it? Why is it that colour or design?

❤️‍🔥Home & Lock-Screen Photos: What is their wallpaper right now? Do they change it regularly? If so to what? Or is it a generic wallpaper that never changes and it comes wit the phone? Or is it of family members? Maybe a wallpaper affiliated with a sports team or a favourite fandom? Or a fandom ship? Is it a different wallpaper from their home screen?

❤️‍🔥Alarms: How many alarms does this person set? Do they use alarms solely for waking up? Or does they set reminders for different tasks or timers for assignments? How much backlog of alarms is there of alarms? Or do they keep only the few they use on the regularly?

❤️‍🔥What news apps do they get their current events?: Do they even check in on current events? Or do they get it from podcasts? Or do they get their news from social media? And if so which?

❤️‍🔥 Social Media Usage: Are they, 'popular' on social media? Thus having a high follower count? What do they tend to post to 'the public'? Are they gearing their instagram or TikTok for a more artistic angle or sharing private important moments to the public? i.e. what they eat, what their favourite show is right now? Do they curate it to a specific aesthetic? Or do they not bother at all? and can go a long time without checking their social media? Do they have a burner account they use to follow all their favourite things and spy on people? Or do they not play that game?

Regarding the Cellphone-Spying

This is an Answer-Post to a really nice & intriguing question I received from @emmalovesfitzloved.

I really don’t know how freaking long this answer-post will be, so I hope y’all are in for this ride!

We’re starting off with Kit, since he's definitely one of my favorite characters and also one for whom I have lots of personal head canons & theories, which will make this a lot easier. He was also the first one that came to mind!

I also made some categories to please my perfectionistic, organization-obsessed brain. Hopefully, it’ll make everything look less long & intimidating.

The Outside

So, first of all, Kit definitely has an IPhone. I'm thinking maybe 11 or 12 model-wise, and for sure either a blue or silver one (though the light blue one is the most obvious choice for sure)

He would have one of these weird-ass clear cases with the circle thingy, the only reason being that everybody else uses those as well, and he didn't really feel the need to stand out (at least not through his choice of phone case??)

Also, he is one of those people who store absolutely everything in their phone case. Keys, money, hair clips (for Mina), chewing gum, guitar picks (my kit-attempts-to-play-the-guitar-headcanon is very strong), a paper heart (from either Ty or Mina, you decide) and random pieces of garbage

All his wallpapers, not matter if we're talking home- or lock screen, are always pictures of him with his loved ones. Always. Ty basically lives on his lock-screen rent-free at this point.

In terms of accessories, I will definitely stand by the fact that he uses very old, partly damaged wired headphones (instead of listening to his boyfriend!) and is very stubborn about it. He also uses a pop socket, either one of those black-and-white checked ones or one with some sort of comic or movie reference.

The Inside

Apps

He has an average amount of apps, mostly socials and unnecessary games he downloaded because of advertisements but never really uses.

There isn't really an organization to them (like color-coded or something); he just lets them be where they are.

Most used Apps: WhatApp, YouTube and Google (pretty basic)

Personalization

Alarms: He actually only needs like three alarms, the first one being the most annoying sound ever (summit), and the others just in case.

Ringtone: He definitely had a duck-one at some point, simply out of spite and to scare Jace.

People

The people he texts the most are Ty and Dru. I would actually even say that he and Dru have more messages together than he and Ty, for numerous reasons. One of them being the fact that their chats contain many many playful arguments which result in tons of short messages and emoji-spams. Also, Ty isn't really a texter in my mind, and the two of them are around each other the whole time anyway.

In terms of who he calls the most, it's definitely Ty and Tessa, who's also his #1 Emergency Contact. Kit calls Tessa a lot, not only to talk to Mina who does not have a phone, but also just to check in, get advice or just talk for a bit. Him and Ty do both normal calls and video calls, but only if they're away from each other, normally, which doesn't happen too frequently. But when it does, they'll be calling each other a lot!

Group Chats, whew. This is gonna be a long one😅 There is, of course, a family group chat with Jem, Tessa and Kit, that'll have Mina in it later. Just a basic one, I would say, where he always replies (like the good son he is). He's also definitely in a chat with the whole Blackthorn-Family (in which he's mostly active through weird emoji-reactions) and the TWP-Gang (which he keeps muted A LOT, mostly because of Dru). And then there's a really unnecessary Herondale Group Chat, which Jace thinks is very important (it only has him and Kit in it at the moment; they're waiting for eventual children to add😭).

Chapter 2 - Follow My Fears All The Way Down (Read on Ao3)

//TW - Discussion of suicide. Meant to be kind of humorous, but may be triggering to some.

The night is cold and young, there are crickets chirping in every corner and the din of traffic feels very distant in this part of New York City.

Magnus let a thin sound escape between his teeth - a sound that was somewhere between a grunt and a groan. A trickle of blood ran down his forehead, but his hands were occupied with carrying the Shadowhunter on his back.

Once he knocked Alec out with a concentrated beam of magic, it became Hell competing with several vampires to get to his unconscious form first. And then again to get out of the Hotel Dumort and open a portal. Raphael did his best, but even he couldn’t hold back dozens of bloodthirsty vampires at once. Magnus had been dealt several cuts, including the one on his forehead, and a few blows to his chest and back which he’d look at once he got home.

Thankfully, Magnus got away, but in his haste opened a portal two streets away from where he lived.

He was a warlock, but he wasn’t a dumb warlock. He wasn’t going to open a portal to somewhere he could easily walk.

So here he was, walking down the sidewalk with an unconscious Shadowhunter on his back. The tear on his wrist was shallow and had already stopped bleeding, and he was otherwise unharmed, contentedly snoring away with his head on Magnus’s shoulder. Magnus couldn’t see him, but he still brought to mind the image of a koala bear hanging on to its favorite tree.

When they finally reached Magnus’s loft in Brooklyn, he carried the Shadowhunter up the stairs and through the front door. He paused when he heard the familiar meows of Chairman meow and the patter of his feet, and couldn’t help but smile.

“Not now, Chairman,” he cooed as his cat came into view, from behind the sofa. “I have a guest to tend to.”

Chairman mewed again, but Magnus determinedly turned away from his cat and headed towards one of his guest bedrooms.

This one was done up with olive green wallpaper and neutral beige bedding. Magnus laid the boy onto the bed, tucked him in like he would an old lover, and stared.

His dark hair looked even darker in the moonlight, and his skin much paler. He would’ve made an excellently looking vampire.

Unfortunately, Magnus wasn’t fond of vampires, and he was even less fond of Shadowhunters.

This was the first time Magnus had a Shadowhunter in his bed. Technically an ex-Shadowhunter, but the sentiment remained.

It’s just for tonight, Magnus told himself, and left the room.

The next morning, Magnus woke up at the crack of dawn. He showered quickly, minding the still tender bruises across his body, and made himself breakfast while chattering to Chairman about the events of last night.

After he ate, he cleared his schedule for the day, sat down in his favourite settee, put on an old Frank Sinatra record and waited.

At 9AM, the vinyl had to be switched out, and the Shadowhunter still hadn’t woken up.

At 10AM, Magnus had finished catching up with all of his magazine subscriptions, and the Shadowhunter still hadn’t woken up.

At 11AM, Chairman had grown exhausted and took to napping in the patch of sunlight coming in from the balcony, and the Shadowhunter still hadn’t woken up.

At 12PM, Magnus grew tired of waiting, and knocked thrice on the door of the guest bedroom. When there was no answer, he unlocked the door and went in anyways.

Turned out the Shadowhunter was awake, sulkily laying in bed and staring at the ceiling. He frowned at Magnus as he walked in.

“Why am I still alive?” he asked.

“Good morning to you, too,” Magnus replied. “Fancy some breakfast?”

“I don’t want breakfast,” the Shadowhunter boy replied. “I-“

“You want to die, yes, I know.” Magnus rolled. “But don’t even think of trying anything here. All the windows are warded, as is the balcony and the front door. No one can pass through the wards if I don’t want them to. That includes jumping out of anything.”

The boy stared levelly at him. “I’ll borrow your kitchen knife, then.”

Magnus smirked. “I don’t own any knives, sweetheart.”

“Then-“

“Everything I eat, I summon up. I haven’t cooked in the last 500 years.”

The Shadowhunter frowned. “I’ll hang myself.”

Magnus snapped his fingers. “As of this moment, ceiling fans no longer exist in my apartment.”

At this point, the Shadowhunter was starting to look livid. “I’ll bang my head against the wall until-“

“Darling,” Magnus smiled. “I’m a warlock. You can try to do anything to hurt yourself, and I’ll heal it before Death can even step foot into this apartment.”

He watched the Shadowhunter as his face went through all the stages of grief - ironic, since the only thing to grieve here was the prospect of living - until finally he said,

“Do you always save people’s lives against their will?”

“It’s kind of my thing, yes.” Magnus grinned. “Now, breakfast?”

After a lot of prodding, the boy had finally agreed to eat scrambled eggs seasoned with salt and pepper - a little specific, but Magnus summoned it up anyways.

“I never got your name,” Magnus asked as he watched him eat, putting one tiny piece of egg into his mouth at a time and chewing carefully, as if the eggs could explode any second.

“Alec Lightwood,” the boy said. “Though I suppose I’m not a Lightwood anymore.”

Magnus couldn’t help but bristle a little at the reminder that he was a Lightwood. Last time Magnus had come face to face with a pair of Lightwoods, he’d almost died.

“Alec it is,” Magnus said. He idly tapped his fingers on the surface of the dining table, his thoughts running at a mile per hour. “So, what’d you do to get deruned?”

“It’s none of your business,” Alec grumbled.

“I think it is, in fact, my business,” Magnus said slowly. “I don’t want to be housing a criminal.”

“No one asked you to bloody house me,” Alec snapped at him. “You practically kidnapped me! And to what, ask me stupid questions about my life? Go to Hell.”

Magnus’s fingers on the tabletop froze. He watched, stunned, as Alec went back to his eggs, fuming. The air between them was thick was ice, and yet Magnus’s collar felt much tighter.

He supposed he had to do the sensible thing and shut up, but there were so many questions burning at the tip of his tongue.

Who really are you?

Why were you at the Hotel Dumort last night?

Why do you want to die?

Why were you deruned?

What happened to you?

Because of your choice last chapter, Alec doesn’t trust Magnus
