we were genuinely so cheated not to have Cas possess Dean. Hell! He could have possessed Sam and it still would have gotten the point across. Jensen would have put his whole jussy into the Cas/Dean hand off, and they could have had a whole convo before or after about how “it’s okay Cas, I trust you. You can have control.” And then references from then on to “when I was in you…” and with Sam? Don’t get me started. Dean being so fucking uncomfortable because Cas looks like his brother. Or the complete opposite where Dean so clearly just sees Cas and keeps having to be like “oh shit” when he gets too close and realizes it’s Sam’s body and it’s weird. Castiel CHOOSING to let his vessel age alongside Sam and Dean. He first excuses this by convincing himself he's only doing it to not stand out and it's saving his grace. That it's wasteful to constantly keep rejuvenating cells when he could be using that power elsewhere. It simply makes the most sense, especially when he falls from Heaven to help aid Dean Winchester. The years go by and the vessel is no longer just a vessel, it's his body and he likes experiencing the human process of aging. The wrinkles he's getting at the corner of his eyes, the laugh lines on his cheeks from smiling at Dean's antics, the grey hairs starting to dust his hair. He loves experiencing this part of humanity. Sam and Dean don't notice how odd it is Castiel is aging alongside them. They're human, so they don't think anything of someone aging until it's brought to their attention by someone Castiel is an angel-- vessels don't age. Or at least, they shouldn't. Dean thinks something has to be wrong with Cas' grace, that Cas has been hiding he's hurt or something fatal but Cas tells him there's nothing to worry about. He chose it. He could at the snap of his fingers restore the body back to its original state when he first possessed Jimmy Novak but he doesn't want to. Dean asks why doesn't he. I mean, aging isn't exactly glamourous and it's something a lot of humans would want to skip out on. Cas answers by saying, "I wanted to because... because it makes me feel more like I belong", but Dean notices his stutter. Cas' answer is satisfactory, but Dean knows Cas and he knows when Cas is hiding the full truth. Which causes him to think Cas is lying about something important he should know about and he's determined to find out what.

What Cas doesn't want Dean to know is that maybe back in 2009 he started letting his vessel age to conserve grace where he could or so he wouldn't stand out amongst the Winchesters or make himself seem more alien than he already did. But the real reason he let his vessel age (which he's aware of now) is because he wanted grow old alongside the man he loves and this was as close as he could get to the fantasy.

I HAVE SOME OPINIONS ABOUT SUPERNATURAL GENDERBENDS.

Listen. I love that image of fem dean that most people in fandom have, with her being like a really cool masc woman with an undercut who is confident in her bisexuality and has no problem sleeping with both men and women. I love her dearly.

BUT. Realistically speaking. Look at john winchester (and tell me there’s god). and the amount of INSANE toxic masculinity bullshit that goes on in canon dean’s brain that actively makes his life worse.

Imagine what kind of GIRL would john winchester raise.

Fem dean would have contradicting roles she needs to fit in. on one hand there’s this image of picture perfect mother/wife that mary was in john’s eyes and that he forces on deanna. On the other theres Family Business which you Can Never Escape. She should be daddy’s daughter, good older sister, future mother and wife but she can never achieve that, so she is ultimately Fails as a Woman. Insert canon dean’s thoughts about being a freak. Worst case of “not like other girls” mentality. Mary as unachievable ideal of traditional femininity which is totally alien to deanna.

And talking about fem sam in my mind Jessica stays her Girlfriend

And that is the core of deanna and sam’s conflict actually because in dean’s eyes sam escapes Family Business so surely she can now be the Right Woman even if deanna herself cant have that?

WRONG, sam doesn’t give a shit about johns views on gender roles, she wants to be a lawyer of all things and lives with another woman. A fucking slap in the face.

John the kind of father to forbid sam from painting her nails in high school cause The Hunt but also gets mad at her for cutting her hair short over a sink.

ALSO I think it would be INSANELY COOL for sam to have hoodies with those 2000s graphic crosses/angel wings prints as sort of foreshadowing

Currently obsessing over the idea of Michael and Adam getting separated (Like Michael leaving the vessel for whatever reason, maybe a case or something???) and Adam gets hurt or like tortured and Michael just goes fucking FERAL.

Like, they might be helping the Winchesters and Castiel out for once, just cause they need like Michael’s power or something, but then Adam and him get split from each and Adam gets kidnapped by these monsters who like beat the shit out of him and finally Michael finds them and once Michael sees what they’ve done to Adam he just- looses his fucking shit. I’m talking smiting all the monsters, breaking the windows, bursting bulbs and probably ruptures the sound barrier for a sec.

And then after all this damage he quickly goes over to Adam and cradles him so softly and with such gentle care he heals all his wounds and soothes him and asks if he’s okay and then re-posses him so he can wrap himself back around Adam’s soul and find peace again. All the while Dean, Sam, and Cas just watch on like tf happened? Two seconds ago you were ready to kill everything within sight???
