the thing about ian saying his vows is that he starts out so nervous..."i, ian..." trying to remember and stick to the script...
then, "take you..." you can see the giddiness starting...the familiarity of his man standing in front of him...a little smile...he's here for him...
then, "mickey" his man! his fiance! his husband, only seconds away! it couldn't be easier for him <3
every single time you drop in here to point something out, i want to run straight to your house screaming at full volume until i crash full force into a window.....
----------
i mean, can we take a moment to imagine what might be going through ian's head right before he needs to recite his vows? just like the amount of rapid fire memories and concerns that could be happening within seconds?
a flip book playing at super speed! flying through those old chapters, some pages frayed and sticking together. burned...
the hardships they had to overcome to get here. the years of pain, solitude, and confusion. fighting so damn hard to be together, to survive, to just breathe. being in the closet, health issues, a marriage, a baby, jail, mexico! and also everything that happened just now! their venue burning, terry, debbie in a wedding dress! one thing after the other, flickering, zapping through his mind.
buzzing, humming, flashing...
until he grasps on to the one thing that's been keeping them afloat and alive. all encompassing, overwhelming, beautiful, magical, iridescent, loud, grounding.
love.
he opens his mouth to say the words he's probably been dreaming of since he was a kid smitten with a boy during the summertime.
i, ian...
WHOOSH! calm.
the flip book closes. and he sees a new one opening up before him.
take you...
fresh clean page. yea. this is it, this is right. this has always been right.
mickey.
and mickey, he smiles back. mirrors that same giddy expression right back to ian. he feels it too, the new beginning. another volume to their story. a new book.
in sickness and in health...
chapter one.

💍✨Details About Your Future Proposal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pile One | 🖤💍
Your person will be coming up with creative ideas on how to propose to you. They could possibly research proposals ideas on the internet or watch proposal videos to get ideas. They want this moment to be very special for the both of you. This person will be spending lots of money on making sure that this proposal goes as plan. They are definitely a planner and they pay close attention to details, so they plan to pull out all the stops for this engagement to be the best yet. They could be very wealthy and they will like to spoil you, so prepare to be spoiled with all types of gifts. Your person will try to keep this plan a secret from you and try not to make it too obvious, but I feel like some of you might already know what they are planning.
This engagement may take place out of the country. Your person may have planned a surprise trip for the both of you, or you already had a trip planned and this will be their perfect opportunity to pop the question. The proposal will likely be in a very private and intimate space where you and this person cannot be interrupted, or they may rent out a venue for the two of you for privacy. There may be candlelights, signs/decorations, band, and decorations involved. The vibe will be very calm and peaceful. This person may be a little nervous to propose because they want everything to go as planned and be perfect. They may ask the universe for a sign, if they should and I see them receiving confirmation. The proposal will be very traditional because this person is very traditional and conservative, so they will be well-groomed and dressed in a classic suit and they will expect you to be put together as well. You guys may have reservations for dinner and afterwards, they will get on their knees and present you with a beautiful, big, and expensive ring. This proposal will definitely shock & surprise you.You will most definitely cry and become overwhelmed with emotions, but you will be happy for the most part. You are very much in love with your person and you cannot imagine spending one minute of your life without them. You will be ready to start your new life with your fiancé. Your person will likely be working with your friends or relatives to plan this engagement. They could be asking for advice for how they will propose to you. This person will try their best to keep these plans hidden from you, but something might get revealed. You may think that something suspicious could be going on behind the scenes, maybe you may think your person is being unfaithful or hiding something from you, so you may spoil the surprise.
This engagement could likely take place on your birthday or your person’s birthday. It could take place near a large body of water, so they could propose to you on a boat. The proposal will happen near sunset or at night, under the full moon & stars. It will be in the summertime. Your person will be collaborating with your friends to plan this birthday celebration/proposal, so you friends and family will be in attendance. I don’t think you have an idea of what is happening behind the scenes, but you could be very suspicious of your person and could be wondering what they really been up to and you intend to find out the truth. Your person will confess some honest and raw truths to you about their feelings and emotions for you that they never expressed nor shown to you before when the propose. They will express their truth to help clear up any fears or suspicions you may have by revealing their true intentions. They will give a long speech in front your family and friends about how much you make them happy, how you bring so much joy and light into their life, and how they can be their authentic self with you. It will be an emotional & heartfelt moment for you & everyone.
You will feel very dumbfounded and relieved when you hear this truth from your person because you could’ve thought your person was being unfaithful or hiding things from you. You will accept their proposal and apologize to your person for overreacting and you will move on from the negative thoughts and feelings that plagued you before. You will look forward to the future with your person. Your person will be happy for the most part. Pile Three | 🤍💍
Your person may be at a crosswords when it comes how they will pop the question to you. They may not be good with communicating their feelings, but they want it to be fun and interesting in a way that you will understand how much they love you and want to spend the rest of their life with you.
The proposal will likely take place in a public setting in a country setting. There will likely be a singer & candlelights. It will likely take place at sunset or at night. your person will likely sing to you, if they sing or they could do a public announcement in the place that they will pop the question at. Your person will be very vocal and honest about how they feel about you. They will say whatever comes to mind because they aren’t really good at expressing their feelings, so that’s why they may dedicate a song/poem to you that helps them express their deep love and feelings for you. You two will likely kiss after they pop the question.
You will be overjoyed and elated about being engaged. You will find the engagement to be humorous and extremely creative. This will definitely be a dream come true for you. You will feel like your person was meant for you and only you. You will definitely be showing off your ring a lot and randomly announcing your engagement to anyone that will listen. You and your person may get married right away and then have passionate and satisfying sex afterwards. Your person will feel like you two are meant for each other. You are their one and only true love, and they cannot imagine life without you in it. They want to grow and expand with you for the rest of their life. Song | Marry You - Bruno Mars
youtube
Pile Four | 🧡💍
Your person is very much in love with you and they cannot imagine a present nor a future without you. They don’t want to wait another moment to pass by before deciding to marry you. They plan to spend the rest of their life by your side and being the best partner and father/mother to your children. This person could have conflict with your or their family about being in a relationship with you, so maybe both families disapprove of the relationship.
The proposal will likely take place somewhere in public. It could happen at the beach, a country setting, or near your home, or a place where you first met. It will likely take place during the day time. You and your person may go for a random walk in nature, maybe it will be part of you and this person’s daily routine. You and this person may go somewhere and sit for a while and they could suddenly pop the question, but not before telling you how they feel about you in a loving and sweet way that will literally bring tears to you and this person’s eyes. If you and this person have kids, they could include the children in the engagement, or this person will propose to you because you guys recently find out you were pregnant. They will likely propose to you with a heirloom ring that’s been in their family for generations.
You will be overcome with emotions because of the engagement and pregnancy hormones. You have so much unconditional love for your person, and you feel so loved and nurtured by them. You feel like you can grow and create abundance with your person by you side. You will be glowing and beyond happy to have found your mate for life. You feel like you have found your home with this person, and you believe they are/will make an amazing father/mother to your children. Your person feels like a fool in love when it comes to you and the connection. They feel like they are walking on sunshine and the sun shines out your ass to this person. They feel carefree when they are around you. You awaken this person’s inner child or you make them feel like a child again. You and this person could have just entered into a relationship not too long after they decided to pop the question, but they feel why wait when they feel like they have found the one for them. This person will be bursting with joy and excitement as you agree to share your life with them.
channeled messages | pregnancy, mountains, nostalgia, flowers, garden, water, trust issues, herkimer diamond, Scorpio, Cancer, Pisces, Aries, Aquarius, and Taurus, soulmates, January, “I love you”, “I can feel this connection”, “I am completely in love with you”, family, 6-10 months of dating, “who cares what people think, I love you!” Song | Let’s Get Married - Jagged Edge

Astrology Moments in Time : Leo Venus Transit 💋
Tumblr media
*Based on Tropical/Western astrology
This week Venus enters Leo. This is a time for us to shine, be proud of ourselves, of what and who we love and experience some lightheartedness. Venus, Mars and Lilith are ALL in Leo! EXPRESS yourself. This energy is so sexy (for lack of a better word) because there’s an abundance of confident energy. So flaunt your stuff and be open about what makes you shine. Allow yourself the permission to be the version of you that you’ve been longing for. It girl mentality only. 💋❤️‍🔥🌹
💋Leo in the 1st house - Try a new style. Put energy, love, and creativity into your appearance. Is there a style of makeup you’ve been wanting to try? Don’t be afraid to make a move, a gesture toward something you want. Whether it’s something simple or something big. You are taking it all on with confidence. You are shining during this transit. Connect with the world around you. Show up as your best self and see what happens.
💋Leo in the 2nd house - Acknowledge where you may be falling short. Your self-worth is important and radiates into every bit of your life. Spend time pampering yourself, know that you are a wonderful being and act like you are. Self-care time is key. Treat yourself like royalty. Assess the things you value and seek to improve the things that aren’t aligning with those values.
💋Leo in the 3rd house - “Winning friends and influencing people.” Reach out to friends and/or people close to you. Strike up a conversation, be open minded and try to learn something new about your environment. Spend a day exploring. Allow yourself to be inspired by what you see around you. Be mindful of how you are using your voice and expressing yourself. Try to speak from different perspectives and parts of your body. Speak with your heart, or with your belly, with your creative, sacral center, etc. You will learn where your true power lies and how you might be able to better use and express it.
💋Leo in the 4th house - Beautify your home. Spend time in your place of comfort and happiness wherever that may be. Try new recipes. Delight in old memories, but do not reconnect with people who dim your shine. Call up a family member, tell them you love them. Remember that your self-worth is only determined by you. Look for beauty in the familiar, mundane aspects of your life. Create a stronger bond with yourself by expressing only that which most aligns with your heart.
💋Leo in the 5th house - Creativity! Pour into your hobbies, interests and things you genuinely enjoy, whatever that may be. Joy is the goal here, do the things that make you happy and light you up. Allow yourself to SHINE. You are recognizing your natural strengths and talents. Romance may be easier with this transit and delighting in the best that life has to offer. Immerse yourself in life’s experiences deeply and fully! This transit reminds me of the song “Summertime in Paris.”
💋Leo in the 6th house - Stay active and engaged. Self-improvement doesn’t have to be hard but is a focus. You are taking charge will be happier if you follow your ‘gut’ and instincts. Express gratitude. Encourage others who could be struggling. Be open to being a source of guidance. But still put yourself first! You are experiencing lots of fresh energy toward the end of this transit. Out with the old, in with the new.
💋Leo in the 7th house - Love and connection. Life through rose colored lenses. Improving relationships. Manifesting better relationships. Build understanding and harmony with others. You are shining in terms of connecting with others, and a relationship offer may manifest. Try spending time with yourself to understand what you desire in someone else.
💋Leo in the 8th house - Intimacy & securing bonds. Feeling connected to your true self. Authenticity. Trusting the process. Tap into your inner 'femme fatale’ and work with the energy to manifest your truest desires. Nobody can stop you from realizing your worth. Self-worth is getting a major boost for sure. Seek to improve finances and don’t be afraid to ask for help, you will surely receive it.
💋Leo in the 9th house - There is beauty all around you. The world is opening up for you like a blooming flower. You are starting to glow with new confidence and self-assurance. Trust in yourself and your instincts. Life is becoming more exciting, and you are feeling more enthusiastic. This could be a time to rediscover your path as well. Don’t rush the process though. You can only climb mount Everest one step at a time.
💋Leo in the 10th house - Feeling like becoming a new person. A rebrand on the horizon. You are letting go of the person you used to be and seeing a new image emerge. You are challenging your limiting beliefs about your abilities. A time to see what you are really capable of. You will gain respect by being yourself and having confidence in your skills. Reputation will receive a boost if you allow it.
💋Leo in the 11th house - Friendships and social groups are more prominent and you are the main influence. Main character energy. A time to lead with character and confidence. Your main support could be friends and you may be feeling happiest around them.
💋Leo in 12th house - Ideas and insights are coming to you as epiphanies almost. Spend time bringing forth these ideas in a very real way. Do something small each day. Pour little bits of creativity into the most mundane tasks. Romanticize your life in the best way possible! Your inner magic is getting a boost here and you can surrender to it with confidence.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Stay positive. Happy strawberry moon🌕🍓

ruby’s very own tour of hawkins!
yoohoo! here is all ze blurbs i wrote for the beloved celebration <3 enjoy!! and as always, i'll bite chew devour (appreciate) any reblogs so feel free to validate me hehe the kiss of venus the prompt: kisses in which ‘i’ll kiss you right now to prove i don’t feel anything for you’‘ but the kiss proves the opposite. You’re convinced that a bad kiss means a boy doesn’t like you. Steve disagrees and offers a good kiss to prove it — even though he does, very much, like you. fem!reader. only exception the prompt: “I want to spend all my time with you.” You’re not used to people sticking around and Steve’s seems to be an exception. Even better, he might like you the same way you like him. crush vs. crush the prompt: physical touches that aren't sexual but full of love >>>> Steve and you debate who fell first and you realise Steve’s been pining for you a lot longer than you’d ever realised. wistful wishes the prompt: forehead against forehead Steve’s just your best friend and no amount of wishing on eyelashes, 11.11’s, and dandelions is changing that. Til he notices the wishing. missed you, lover the prompt: a swirling reunion kiss You go out of state and Steve makes sure gives the proper boyfriend welcome back. (a real good kiss hehe) talk it out the prompt: fumbling with their hand as you tell a story. It’s been a long day and Steve helps you unwind, even if it just means holding you when it turns to tears. misplaced kiss the prompt: an accidental kiss that confuses you both, but only a moment pass before you crash your lips back against each other's Steve has been planning his move on you— a kiss on the cheek — for weeks. He misses and kisses you straight on the lips instead. Then deals with the aftermath. unlucky seventh the prompt: extending your hand for them to hold everytime they walk behind you and they wrap clasp their fingers around yours You’re stuck at the back of your group, lagging behind because there’s not enough space for all of you side-by-side on the sidewalk. Steve makes sure you’re not feeling forgotten. softest lips in the world the prompt: “Nobody in the world has hands this soft.” Dustin gives stellar advice and you try out the trick of comparing hand sizes with Steve. A slip of a tongue reveals a little more than intended. love in the a.m the prompt: a kiss that says 'we're late for work, but let's be later' Kisses in bed, kisses in the shower, kisses in the kitchen— it’s a wonder you and Steve ever make it to work on time. wildflower bouquets the prompt: “Thanks for marrying me.” + “I have never loved you as much as I do right now.” A wedding in a garden, lots of tears, and one very happy couple. fem!reader. rough day the prompt: “I wouldn’t wanna fight you. You’re pretty feisty.” Keith is an asshole but hearing you threaten to fight him might just be the thing to make Steve feel better. kiss it better the prompt: "I've had a terrible day at work so just kiss me." Sometimes the only remedy for Steve is a kiss from his lover. clingy drunk the prompt: physical touches that aren't sexual but full of love >>>> + "Tch, stop moving!" "Why-?" "You feel amazing in my arms." You’re a clingy drunk, demanding cuddles in the middle of a party— Steve thinks it’s downright adorable.
ramblings headcanons & thoughts this one (nsfw, we just nearly died tender-lovin sex), in the summertime (river date with stevie hehe)

———————————————
August 2026
“Deep breathes, darlin’,” his hands were smooth against her shoulders, instantly calming her nerves. Y/n took a deep inhale, nodding as she slowly let the air leave her lips. Jake beamed at her, “This ain’t the first time you’ve been on stage. You got this.”
“I know, but performing on live television for millions of people is different than a few thousand in a venue,” she reminded him, feeling the anxiety return causing her to close her eyes. “It’s been six years since my last VMA performance, Jake. Also,” she nervously laughs, “This is the Vanguard award they’re giving me—I’m, quite literally, shitting my pants. I want this to be amazing.” To be fair the reason for her not being invited back to the VMAs was a mini break from music she went on after they got married in 2021. The birth of their children was another factor so it wasn’t until late 2025 that Y/n had released the music she’d been working on.
The break was much needed, but she was missing the stage, the touring, the fans. It was what kept her going and made her career worth it. Music was her life, but so was her family which is why she took so long to release an album. Now here she was years later about to step foot on the VMA stage for the first time in six years. Another thing that made it worthwhile was she was being honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award. Leading up news outlets were covering her return and on the red carpet reporters were eager to know what Y/n was cooking up.
“And it will be,” he told her, cupping her face in his hands, careful not to mess up the gemstones and glitter around her eyes. She could feel the cool metal of his wedding band against her skin. “You are one of the best vocalists of our generation—the High Note Princess. One of the best stage performers of all time—it’s gonna be an amazing show. You’ve been working so hard for months,” he gives a comforting squeeze to her shoulders. “So just breathe with me and then you’ll go out there and sing your pretty little heart out. And it’s gonna be the best performance of the night.”
As she mentally prepared while waiting for the stage manager, Y/n leaned more into Jake’s arms and let her mind wander. Memories started to appear, reeling back to when her career kicked off all the way to when she met her husband and finally to the present day.
February 2008
Like any aspiring star, Y/n L/n made the rash decision to quit college and move to Los Angeles in hopes of achieving her goal of becoming a singer. Hollywood was calling her name, so she spent months applying to jobs in the area before finding a small studio apartment and packed up her little Honda and set sail for the city where dreams are made. Time would be the make or break factor if she stayed or retreated back home with her tail between her legs.
One year.
That was her deadline. One year to get a job at a label, get discovered, or possibly find something worth renewing her lease. Working as a singer at a jazz bar could possibly have one of the options come true. Again, it would take time before something happened.
Y/n wasn’t the only singer at the club. Another girl was on stage Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Saturday’s whereas Y/n was booked Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s. The club was closed Sunday’s and the nights Y/n didn’t sing she was a server or bartender. The pay was good for the most part with her tips racking in more income than the biweekly check for singing and serving. Sometimes she’d get compliments from patrons, especially the older crowd saying, “You have such a unique voice—the way you have control and range makes me think you should be on the radio and not some little jazz club like this. Your talent shouldn’t be wasted, dear.”
The words and support always boosted Y/n’s confidence. Truly did it make her feel she could make it big. Actually break through into the industry. But that takes time and sometimes the opportunity arises when one least expects it.
Maybe she could audition for American Idol. Maybe she could upload videos on that new website YouTube. Maybe she could be bold and send some demos to labels, praying it would land on someone’s desk.
Or, someone important from said label would wander into the club.
That idea seemed like a far stretch. But just three months shy of Y/n’s deadlines she was approached by a gentleman after she finished her number one Friday night. A business card in his hand, he said, “Give me a call Monday morning, I’d like to set up a meeting to talk with you about your potential. Bring some demos if you have any.”
A notebook of songs in her hand and a CD of demos she spent the whole weekend working on, Y/n left Capitol Records that morning with a copy of her contract in hand and the promise of bringing forth the best music of her life. There were tears shed as she relayed the exciting news to her family back home. Her coworkers whom she adored threw her a party at the club in celebration that night. She wouldn’t leave the club just yet. Just because she had signed didn’t mean she would make it big in the long run. No, she decided to stay at the club until she at least was at the level where she could financially afford to.
The first time Y/n heard herself on the radio she broke into tears. It happened unexpectedly too. After packing up her car with two weeks worth of groceries that cost her entire paycheck Y/n switched the the radio to the pop station and was singing along to the tunes when she heard the beginning chords to her song, ‘Teenage Dream.’ Cars honked around after she slammed the brakes and abruptly pulled to the side of the road, eyes wide with her hands covering her mouth.
“You think I’m pretty without any makeup on. You think I’m funny when I tell the punchline wrong. I know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down.”
Y/n literally changed the channel just to change it back to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. That it was actually her song playing.
“Before you met, I was alright, but things were kinda heavy. You brought me to life, now every February, you’ll be Valentine. Valentine.”
“Let’s go all the way tonight. No regrets, just love. We can dance, until we die. You and I, will be young forever.”
“Oh my God!!!” She got out of her car just to scream while jumping up & down. People on the sidewalk were looking at her crazy but she didn’t care. Not when her own song was blasting from her car on the radio.
“You make me, feel like I’m living a Teenage Dream. The way you turn me on, I can’t sleep. Let's run away and don’t ever look back. Don’t ever look back.”
Y/n’s entire life took a 180 after that very day. Her talent agent and manager from Capital Records were calling her saying she was on the Billboard Hot 100. They were planning on releasing her second single earlier than planned in order to push up the release of her album. Every radio station was playing ‘Teenage Dream,’. There were days Y/n would be in a store and would hear in playing, causing her to break out in a grin.
Before long Y/n was getting calls left in right with her manager and publicist securing television appearances and interviews. Her second single ‘Firework’ was an instant hit, becoming a gold certified record in just a few weeks. People auditioning for X-Factor and American Idol were covering it. Videos being posted to YouTube. Then Y/n released ‘Last Friday Night,’, becoming a popular song for teenagers and young adults. The full album shot her off into stardom.
“SNL?” She dropped her muffin, staring wide eyed at her manager. “SNL wants me to perform?”
“I got Lorne Micheals on the phone—I literally have him on hold—and he’s awaiting your answer.”
“Tell him my answer is ‘fuck yeah!’”
“I’ll tell him…you said yes.”
The appearance on SNL only increased Y/n’s popularity. Following it was invitations to the Kids & Teen Choice Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV VMAS, in which she won Best New Artist at all shows and Song of The Summer at the TCA’s. The first time she won she was a stuttering mess, thanking the fans and people who voted for her and her family, managers, execs at Capitol Records all while trying not to cry on live television.
Then the 2009 Grammys happened. And she won Best Pop Album and Record of The Year for ‘Last Friday Night’. Her hands shook as she accepted the award from none other than Usher, trying not to fangirl as she approached the microphone. She was never gonna get used to meeting the people she admired.
“O-oh wow,” she stuttered over the screams, feeling the cool surface of the award in her hand. A Grammy. She was a Grammy Award winning recording artist. “This is the greatest honor I’ve ever received—bigger than when I graduated with high school honors,” she laughed nervously, causing people in the crowd to smile at her. “Huge thank you to the Recording Academy for this award. It’s an honor to be part of a group with so many artists I admire—some of whom I’ve listened to for years a-and I can’t believe I have the privilege of being in your presence. I-I wanna take a moment to thank everyone at Capitol Records, my managers Raven and Paul. To everyone who helped me on this album who put their heart and soul into it—this award is not just mine it’s yours. To my family watching at home, I know you’re all losing your minds in front of the tv,” she grinned at the laughs around her, “I love you all so so much and thank you for your support—helping me get to where I am. I’m sorry if I forgot anyone else—t-there telling me to wrap up—b-but thank you—thank you so much for this, I’m so blessed and honored—I can’t even put it into words. Thank you!”
All of 2009-2010 was dedicated to her second album. Y/n was in the studio, writing songs on napkins when she was out with friends, mentally hearing the tunes in her head. She presented and performed at award shows and she went on tour. The goal was to have the songs ready and written by the time the tour ended. Luckily she achieved that goal with at least twenty potential for an album. Anytime Y/n found inspiration she made sure to write it down as quickly as possible.
Now with two Grammys under her name, one of which was for her debut album, the pressure was on.
“This is totally different from what you’ve been doing,” her producer said to her after reading the songs.
“I know, that’s the whole point,” she gave a pointed look, “I don’t want everything to be or sound the same. This is gonna have a different sound than what we did last year. Trust me it’s gonna be big.”
Might as well call her psychic cause that’s exactly what she was.
“It’s been a great week for popstar Y/n L/n, her recent single ‘Summertime Sadness,’ has shot to the top spot of this week’s Billboard Hot 100. A new sound that’s more mellow than her previous work, it’s been well received by fans and critics. L/n is finishing up the American leg of her world tour and is set to release her second studio album in the fall. Just two years ago L/n became an international star after winning two Grammys for her debut album and appearing on television such as Saturday Night Live, Ellen Degeneres, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. With her unique voice and style she’s been viewed as the next pop diva, joining that of Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga.”
‘Video Games’ was released when the tour concluded and it became her best single to date. The music video was played on MTV early in the mornings and predicted to be nominated for every award one could think of. It was that single combined with the critical acclaim from her album in 2011 that had Baz Luhrmann calling Y/n to write a song for his upcoming 2013 movie ‘The Great Gatsby.’
“And the Oscar goes to….” Y/n’s hand clutched her manager’s, keeping a calm face since the camera was panned on her and the other nominees. In Halle Berry’s hand was the envelope with the winner of the 2014 Oscar for ‘Best Original Song.’ Heart pumping out of her chest, she barely registered her song and name leaving the actress's lips. “Young & Beautiful,’ by Y/n L/n.”
Baz jumped from his seat, as did her manager and producer, the latter of whom she was sharing the Oscar with. A hand flew to her mouth, feeling her arm tugged as they lifted her from her seat while the theater erupted in applause. It felt like she was floating when she approached the stairs, taking the arm of her producer when he offered her help.
“Congratulations,” Halle said, opening her arms for a congratulatory hug before handing the gold statue to the singer. Y/n let out a mix of a sob and laugh as she replied, “T-thank you.”
Another statue was presented to her producer, Y/n waiting for the applause to end until giving her speech.
“O-oh my God, I just met Halle Berry,” there were some chuckles, the singer pausing to hold a hand to her thumping heart while the other clutched the Oscar. “I-I don’t know how to start. First, thank you to the Academy foremost—it’s an honor to be receiving this recognition. Shout out to the other nominees and their incredible work—you all are amazing and we’re so lucky to be almost you all. We all have one major thing in common, and that’s music. Music and movies bring people together—it’s a universal language that we get to be a part of and I am so grateful everyday for being a part of it. Thank you to Baz for allowing us this opportunity—it was so fun working on this song for you and your spectacular film. This Oscar is for you, Baz,” she saw the director blow a kiss from his seat. “Thank you to my producer, Tim—who’s standing right next to me. The magic behind Young & Beautiful, Tim you are a genius and I love you so much. Lastly, to my family back home—ah!” She waved the trophy like a little kid, “Look! I love you all so so much—thank you and I can’t wait to celebrate with you when I come home. Thank you everyone!”
Each year came with more success. The rest of 2014 going all the way to 2016 was nonstop energy. She was working day and night, touring, performing on talk shows, collaborating with other artists—like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, The Weekend, & Justin Bieber—and dabbling in acting jobs. Y/n secured roles in films like The Greatest Showman, The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials & Death Cure, & The Shape of Water. Some television roles included MTV’s Teen Wolf, American Horror Story and guest appearances on Criminal Minds, Greys Anatomy, and Doctor Who. Her role on AHS garnered her an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. After the award show her manager told her with a wink, “All you need is a Tony and you’re part of the EGOT club.”
EGOT. The ‘grand slam’ in show business. Where only more than a dozen people have achieved the status in which they have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The biggest awards in television, music, film, and theater.
After she heard that….well you could say Y/n was on a mission.
She continued to release music while pursuing acting. She leased her third and fourth studio albums in the span of eight months—a rare sighting for an artist. Both broke records in their own right. ‘Break Free,’ was playing in every club and ‘Imagine’ was used in Riverdale. She won the Grammy for best Pop album once again and performed ‘Imagine’ at the show. The second it was revealed she got the role of Christine in Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, the buzz was already on if she would achieve EGOT status if she was nominated for the Tony.
The show opened in early 2017, selling out at a rapid rate with people coming from all over the country solely to watch Y/n perform. She already showed the world she was a brilliant singer and actress, now it was time to combine the two.
Never did she think she’d meet the love of her life at a show.
Jake Seresin wasn’t much of a musical man, but his sister and nieces were so he sucked it up and attended with them. Now Jake wasn’t living under a rock, he damn well knew who Y/n L/n was and frankly the man was a fan. A lot of his exes were fans of the popstar so he was quite familiar with her music and even enjoyed her acting. So of course he was more keen to the idea of going to a Broadway show if it meant he got to see her perform live.
What he didn’t expect was to—literally—run into her on his way back to the hotel. After telling his sister he’d pick food up since her daughters were too tired to go to a restaurant, Jake took a shortcut which happened to be the alley between the show venue. The bag in his hand dropped, the pilot falling to his ass when the door suddenly opened and hit smack in the face.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” A voice shouted followed by a gasp. “Are you okay, sir? ‘Please don’t have blood-please don’t have blood.’
“I’m fine,” he moaned, shaking his head a bit and feeling for any sign of a wound. Thankfully he found none. “It’s alright, ma’am.”
“Here let me,” she helped him up, Jake stumbling a bit and apologizing when he bumped into her. “Are you sure you’re okay? Do you need me to call an ambulance in case you have a concussion?”
“No, no,” he insisted, finally looking up which only resulted in him freezing. The woman he watched on stage not even an hour ago was standing in front of him. “Oh wow.”
Y/n was frozen too, for he was the most attractive man she’d ever laid eyes on. The glow from the street light shined down on him, illuminating his green eyes and blonde hair. His bone structure was what most Hollywood heartthrobs would die for. Come to think of it he could literally pass as a young James Dean.
“H-hi,” she smiled, feeling a bit flustered all of a sudden. It didn’t help that he was still holding onto her shoulders, and she was clutching his forearms.
“Hi.” Gosh even his voice was attractive. A southern accent could be made out with the simple word.
“I’m so sorry for not looking before pushing the door out like that. I—,” Y/n cut herself off when she spotted the discarded bag of what appeared to be food. Some of it spilled out causing guilt to fill her, “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry about your food.” Stepping away she reached into her bag to pull out her wallet. “How much was—.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Jake says, but the singer shakes her head.
“No I insist,” she takes out a random amount of bills which was likely triple what he had actually paid but she didn’t care. She extended her hand out with the cash, “I rammed a door into you and made you drop your food. Please let me make it up—otherwise I’m gonna have to drag you to the place you got it from and replace it myself.”
Jake couldn’t help but smile, taking the cash and examining it before only keeping the amount he had originally paid. “No need to give me more than what it was worth. Here,” he hands back the extra, making her frown but she takes it regardless. Her eyebrows then raise when he goes, “But you could make it up to me in another way?”
Tilting her head, she can’t help but say, “How so?”
“By having a drink with me. If you’re available.”
So that’s how Y/n L/n met her soulmate. By hitting him face first with a door. He literally fell for her if one thought about it—pun intended.
What made it even better was Broadway not only gifted her future husband, but her status as an EGOT winner.
“Last night was a record breaking night for popstar Y/n L/n. The 30-year-old singer and actress has become one of just over a dozen to join the prestigious EGOT Club after winning the Tony for her Leading Actress in a Musical for her role of Christine in Broadway’s Phantom Of The Opera. L/n won the Grammy for Best Pop Album and Record of The Year in 2009 followed by the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2014 for The Great Gatsby. She then went on to appear in several television series including the popular horror series American Horror Story in which she won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It was rumored L/n would venture into Broadway to possibly add a Tony to her collection of numerous awards, confirming this in mid-2016 when the cast for the 2017 run of Andrew Webber’s Phantom Of The Opera was released. Classically trained as a child, the popstar showed she can belt a lyric and hold a tune. It was a spectacular night for Y/n L/n, receiving a standing ovation when her name was called for the award and dedicating the Tony to her family, friends, cast members, and managers who’ve been with her since her debut in the music industry almost a decade ago. She is one of the youngest stars to ever achieve EGOT status and the fastest ever in a career.”
Many many songs were inspired by her relationship with Jake. Her entire album released a year after they got together was basically a love letter to him. ‘Love Song’ was regarded as her most beautiful record to date, a source for many fan-made videos for their favorite fictional characters and features in movie soundtracks. ‘Love Me Harder,’ & ‘34+35’ had fans go crazy with how frisky they were. Though their relationship was a secret it was obvious the popstar was in love. It only made fans want to know who was the special man to take her heart.
Jake learned pretty early on the price that came with dating a critically acclaimed songwriter: that if messed up there would be a song about it.
Immediately speculations arose that Y/n and her secret partner were broken up with the release of songs like ‘Woman Like Me,’ & ‘Power.’ She had to get on instagram one day to settle the rumors with a picture of their interlaced hands saying, “You drive me wild sometimes, but my love for you overpowers all.”
Their relationship was eventually exposed when Jake appeared in her music video for ‘Secret Love Song,’ released just shortly before he was set to return to Top Gun. People could easily tell the chemistry between Y/n and her ‘love interest’.
Maybe a little too much chemistry.
Dedicated fans were able to find out who Jake was in less than a week. Matching up his social media post locations and dates with hers, they didn’t even need them to confirm their suspicion to know they were together.
“I guess the cat’s out of the bag,” Jake chuckled, showing Y/n his phone screen with a picture that was just sent to TMZ of the two in San Francisco.
Y/n simply shrugged, “I’m fine with it if you are. I’m happy we got to keep it to ourselves for this long. And considering people are now asking about this—,” she held up her left hand, flashing the diamond engagement ring Jake spent his entire year’s paychecks on. “It was bound to happen sooner or later.”
Was Jake still the arrogant, egotistical pilot amongst his peers? Yes. But was he the type to boast about how he was engaged to one of the best musical artists of the century? Surprisingly no.
He actually enjoyed keeping that little detail a secret. To Jake his personal life was for him and him only. And he didn’t want people going around saying he was a gold-digger or wanting to be that guy who got to say he hooked up with a celebrity. Nah, he was in love with Y/n with his entire being. She was the gravity that kept him down to Earth. Sure they bickered like any couple but never once did either of them cross a line.
The only time they ever had a big argument was when he did get jealous over one of her former co-stars trying to have a shot at her. Y/n tried brushing it off saying it was nothing, but Jake could tell the signs and it upset him Y/n was not taking him seriously. “I just don’t see why you’re being so childish about a dinner party that’s gonna have multiple people.”
“Have you even asked who else is coming? Or wondered why he’s started texting you more when you guys finished filming ages ago? I’m not trying to be insecure or jealous, Y/n, but I know when a guy is trying to flirt. He didn’t even acknowledge me as your date when we were at the premier party. In fact I don’t think he said hello to me when he approached. All his eyes were was on you—which I don’t blame because you’re the most beautiful woman on the planet—but trust me, I know that look because I have it every second I’m with you.”
Needless to say you didn’t go to that dinner party and instead were doing what ‘Love Song’ was about the entire weekend.
When Jake goes to Top Gun for the special detachment, he’s still the arrogant asshole the others thought him to be. But if they were being honest they could see a difference in him. Maybe it was because he wasn’t flirting with anything with legs. Maybe it was the fact he rejected the drink from a pretty blonde. Maybe it was because they caught him smiling at his phone whenever he got a text. Whatever it was, they wanted to find out.
The only person in the detachment who knew of Y/n was Javy considering he was Jake’s best friend. She met him roughly eight months after she and Jake got together after much discussion. Their relationship was still a secret by then so they were hesitant to let anyone besides her team know, but Javy was an important person to Jake. He wanted his best friend to know the woman he loved.
Natasha being the amateur sleuth she was pretty much discovered Jake’s secret in a few days, “No fucking way.”
The evidence was presented to Jake during their lunch break the day after she found out, Nat holding the phone up for him to see. She literally watched the gears turn in his head, a sly smirk forming on his lips. “What about that, Trace?” The question caught the attention of their colleagues, who were trying not to show they were eavesdropping.
“Is that not you?” Nat looked at the screen to make sure it was on the zoomed in image of him and Y/n L/n. The entire music video Jake’s face was pretty much hidden from view, but briefly his face could be made out at certain angles.
“It is,” he shrugged, going back to his sandwich. A cluttered sound indicated Nat had dropped the phone on the table, scrambling to pick it up.
“So you just casually ended up in Y/n L/n’s music video for her iconic song?” By now heads turned, expressions of absolute shock. Well all except Coyote. He just raised his brows at Jake while holding back a laugh, wanting to see what he would say.
“No, I ended up in my fiancé’s music video for her iconic song.”
“You’re what?!”
“Babe, I got a favor to ask you,” Jake’s voice was tainted with exhaustion when he FaceTimed Y/n that night. She was at their Fresno home since he was stationed at NAS Lemoore and was planning to meet him in San Diego that weekend. Raising a brow at him through the screen she could tell he looked apologetic.
“What is it?”
“You think you could come down earlier than planned?” At her reaction he explained, “My detachment found out about us and well……they’re accusing me of photoshopping the photos of you and I—even though they literally saw us make out in your music video. And I want to prove to them I’m telling the truth.”
A moment passed and then Y/n burst into laughter to the point of tears. What got her was the photoshopping accusation.
“Stop laughing,” he pouted, “I’m fighting for me life out here—I could use some backup.”
“My goodness, Jake Seresin,” she calmed down, shaking her head at his butt hurt expression. “You’re something else you know?”
“So does that mean you’re coming?”
“I’ll book my flight for the morning as soon as we get off.”
One could envision the confusion on the pilots/WSOs when Jake prevented them from leaving the airstrip at the end of the work day. It was pushing five in the afternoon, they were tired and hungry, and honestly could care less about what Jake had to show them.
That was until the black SUV with tinted windows pulled up to the parking lot where they were standing. When the door opened jaws dropped to the floor with eyes bulging out at the person emerging from the vehicle. Who happened to jump into Jake’s awaiting arms. Fanboy had to rub his eyes to make sure he was seeing clearly. That it was Y/n L/n sharing a kiss with the resident asshole.
“Oh my God he wasn’t kidding,” Rooster said with a mix of awe and disbelief. Javy patted him on the chest, moving first to greet the popstar who shocked the pilots again with her warm welcome to them. None knew how to react when the couple approached hand in hand.
It’s not everyday someone meets a fucking EGOT winner.
“Hello,” Y/n smiled a dazzling grin, drifting her eyes over each of them and committing their callsign to memory. She could tell what they were likely thinking, ‘How the hell did Hangman manage to pull a fucking popstar?’ And ‘He must be brainwashing her, blink twice if you need help,’ kind of stuff.
Introductions were in store as well as explanations for how the couple came to be. In all the years they knew the pilot, none could’ve predicted that kind of secret. They quickly learned Y/n was not the typical celebrity—some of them were even ashamed to think she’d be stuck up, arrogant, snobbish. They were almost convinced the personality she had in interviews and fan interactions were fake, but Y/n was a truly genuine person. Not only did she come from humble beginnings, but she was a hard, driven worker who truly earned everything she’s gained.
And she was perfect for Jake. They were like two peas in a pod, with Y/n being the only one who could bring him back down to earth. Truly was an amazing thing to witness and the daggers were having trouble comprehending it at times. Hearing the story of how the two met brought tears to Rooster and Fanboy’s eyes by how funny it was, while Phoenix was covering her mouth to hide her smirk at how embarrassed her colleague was.
“In my defense,” he puts his hands on his chest when Bob asks why he thought to pass the side door, “I didn’t expect anyone to still be inside and potentially use that door.”
“He just hates when I tease him about how he literally fell for me,” Y/n winks, making them all smirk.
Later on in the night after going to the Hard Deck for drinks and pool, Rooster says, “You know I feel I won’t be able to use my karaoke song if we ever go cause I’ll be too flustered to sing a song in front of the person it’s written by.” Y/n couldn’t help but blush, giggling lightly.
“What is it?”
“Last Friday Night. Such a banger—really gets the crows going.”
Even after the Uranium mission happened, the daggers continued to remain in contact. Many were offered jobs of instructors but the real surprise came a couple months later from the Pentagon asking if they could remain a permanent team. Selling their San Francisco home, Jake and Y/n moved to San Diego, which was better since it was closer to L.A. The team hung out often with Friday nights reserved for the Hard Deck.
Y/n even found musical inspiration with them.
“So I have a proposal,” she hums to Nat and Callie one day while the guys are playing football on the beach. “Not a marriage one Jake claimed that one already,” she pauses when they all laugh at the joke, “but a ‘if you want to be a part of it I would love it if you did but I understand if you can't be’ kind of one.”
Nat tilts her head curiously, Callie mirroring her, “What is it?”
“I wrote a song….that you two helped inspire,” Y/n smiles at their expressions, “and I’d love for you both to be in the music video after I release it.”
Nat loses it, “OH MY GOD YOU WHAT?!!”
“Can we hear it!?” Callie blushes, “I’m so honored—oh my God I literally don’t know how to react to that.”
“Girl you cannot just drop that on us,” Nat playfully points with narrowed eyes, “If you weren’t Jake’s soon to be wife I would marry you right now.” Y/n just laughs, rummaging through her bag to find her notebook to show them the song.
“If he messes up you’ll be the first to know and we can head to the courthouse.”
“Don’t play with me now, Y/n,” Nat shakes her head. “No man has ever done something like that. Write a song inspired by me?” She gives a dramatic sigh. “Feels like I’m living in a romance novel.”
Both read the song, both fell in love with it and pretty much cried. It was empowering, motivational, a love letter to women, everything they wished they heard growing up in a field where men dominated and looked down upon them. Y/n made sure to keep them updated when she was in the studio, allowing them to hear it first before it was released.
2020 was a year no one could’ve expected.
It started off great with the singer releasing ‘Salute,’ shortly after the New Year and filing the music video in February. The song was well received from fans and critics, with people already calling it the ‘anthem of the year.’ Jake loved it and would send clips of him in the car to Y/n belting the lyrics. The guys all loved it too and loved that their colleagues were the source of inspiration.
Halo and Phoenix were part of the MV as well as women who in real life were doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, athletes, students, astronauts, & scientists from all ages, races/ethnicities, genders, etc. Not all of them were in the armed forces, but a couple were along with Nat and Callie. Special permission from the Navy & Top Gun was needed to put cameras in the F-18’s on the exterior and interior to capture footage of the two flying. Halo was Nat’s backseater for that day and the guys came out just to watch and support.
Released just before March, the music video hit 100 million views in less than 12 hours. It only grew from there with people praising Y/n and the women included in the project. There was talk of ‘Salute’ being nominated for the upcoming awards, Team USA asked permission to use the song for promotion for their women athletes for the upcoming Games. Y/n was over the moon, really looking forward for what the year held. Especially with her wedding around the corner.
Then the world shut down. Literally.
A global pandemic altered everything and everyone. Anything that required a group of people ranging from small to stadium level was banned. States were on curfew and not letting people cross borders, international traveling was restricted. Lockdown was mandated for pretty much everywhere to the point Jake was working from home for a couple months.
In that time Y/n threw herself into writing songs to release her next album. Her reason: she was in need of a break. Not a ‘I’m retiring from music,’ but a ‘I’m drained and in dire need of taking time for myself and start the family I’ve always wanted.’ It was always her plan for after she and Jake got married, just to have a few years for themselves and see where life takes them.
Thankfully when the pandemic hit Y/n was already done with her collaboration with Lady Gaga. The fellow popstar had been her friend since she joined the industry and it was a long time coming for the two to work together. Not to mention they were on American Horror Story together. The Mother Monster approached the High Note Princess in late 2019, both sharing ideas and writing the song together before recording to release in 2020. Filming the music video, they combed both of their aesthetics and styles to create a pop masterpiece.
Fans went crazy. They loved the return to classic pop when both singers had gone off to pursue acting careers and change their sound a bit. Many felt deprived of being able to dance to ‘Rain On Me’ in a club since going out was restricted. And you can best believe the Daggers felt the same—especially Rooster who loved to dance his ass off, “I would be tearing it up right now if Rona wasn’t such a bitch.”
Surprisingly the 2020 VMAs still happened. It was roughly six months after the outbreak and very strict regulations were in place for the show to go on. With ‘Rain On Me,’ being so popular and popstars releasing albums, Y/n and Lady Gaga were invited to perform. After prepping for weeks and self-quarantining, the daggers all gathered around at the couple’s home to watch the live show. Lady Gaga was the first to perform solely when it was their turn, then Y/n joined causing the select few in the crowd to cheer—with her friends and loved ones going crazy in their living room. All were in awe when she hit a high note, killing it with the choreography and honestly being the best performers of the night. Finally Lady Gaga left the stage with her dancers allowing Y/n’s to appear in time for the popstar to sing ‘Salute.’ At the house, Halo and Nat were dancing along and belting the lyrics with the guys while recording the performance on their phones.
“Sisters, we are everywhere! Warriors, your country needs you! If you’re ready, ladies, better keep steady, ready, aim, shoot! Don’t need ammunition, on a mission—now we hit you with the truth! Divas, queen, we don’t need no man, SALUTE!!”
2021 came with hope and breaths of fresh air. A vaccination was developed, restrictions were lifted in most locations meaning Y/n and Jake could finally plan for their wedding. It took a few months to plan, desiring an intimate private wedding at their home with their close friends and family. The daggers were all there, including Maverick, Cyclone, Warlock, and Hondo. Their families were all there as well as Y/n’s managers & agents, some cast members from the shows/films she grew close to, as well as artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, David Guetta, and The Black Eyed Peas, the Jonas Brothers, & Miley Cyrus.
A sweet ceremony, Y/n squealed when Jake tipped her back to the cheers of their loved ones as he kissed her passionately. “I love you so much, Y/n. Or should I say, Mrs. Seresin.”
“I love you too, Mr. Seresin,” she kissed him again, “Now let’s show them we’re the life of the party.”
Rings on their fingers, grins plastered their faces when they ran through the Arch of Swords the guys of the Dagger Squad set up on the aisle. Then came time for the reception. Jake presented Y/n with a sword, per military tradition, to cut the cake and Y/n poured the champagne over the tower of glasses. They had their first dance, which Javy made sure to do his best man duties and record everything.
Which came in handy when it was time for Y/n’s surprise for Jake.
Seating him in a chair at the front of the dance floor, Y/n smirked at his confused expression as she took the mic from the DJ, calling everyone's attention. “All of you know I’m one for surprises. And tonight is no exception,” biting her lip she signaled for her maid of honor, who started rounding up the bridesmaids. “I thought it would be great to give Jake a little treat tonight—do not take that the wrong way, I can already see your minds going somewhere,” she pointed at the daggers who were hollering, giggling as she continued, “Stop it. Anyways, we’ve been cooking up this little number for the past month and now it’s time to let it shine. Baby, this is for you.”
Jake slapped a hand to his mouth containing his expression of glee when the opening chords to Y/n’s ‘Power’ echoed through the speakers. Her bridesmaids got into place, the singer discarding her veil and moving to the center. Everyone was on their feet hooting and hollering, capturing the performance on their phones for memory. Javy even put the phone right up in Jake’s face, Payback slapping the pilot on the back as the others whistled and danced. Just the expression of his mother and family sent Jake into tears of laughter.
She was flabbergasted. Unlike his sister and brother who were having the time of their lives witnessing the masterpiece that was Y/n practically seducing her husband live and singer her own song.
“I don’t think she’s heard this song until now!” He shouted over the music to the phone, blushing when Y/n winked at him. To be fair, the bridge of ‘Power’ was a little on the frisky side and Y/n was edging closer to Jake until she was basically in his lap.
“Don’t be fooled, I got you wrapped up. In the arms of an animal—get you thinking that I’m all innocent. But wait ‘til I get you home. If you don’t, baby, you should know. I’m the one who’s in control.”
Hell yeah she was in control when she got home that night….well at least for a few rounds she was.
Sadness came with the announcement of her break from music. The hot topic for media outlets, Y/n had released a statement on Twitter and Instagram confirming the suspicions many had after her wedding. Fans were understandably upset that their favorite artist wouldn’t be releasing new material until further notice, but they’d rather have Y/n at her best and not give half ass energy in her work. She was burnt out. It was time for a break after 13 years with six albums, each with their own tour. Don’t get her wrong, the popstar loved to be on the road, but after a while she was ready to just stay home for some time without planning for what was next.
In the meantime she sold songs for other people, collaborated on writing with artists, and acted when filming was either in L.A or San Diego. She and Jake were happily married, little to no financial stress or personal issues, and were ready to expand their family. By mid 2025 they had/adopted two kids, two dogs, and a cat. They were a full house with no dull days whatsoever.
“Are you going to get back in the studio like you mentioned the other week?” Jake asked at dinner, helping cut his son's food into smaller pieces.
Y/n nibbled on her floor while also assisting their daughter, “Yeah I think this weekend I’m gonna call Jack up and see what his schedule is like. I got some lyrics I’d like him to read.” Sipping on her drink briefly she then asks, “How long do you think this next mission is going to be?”
“Probably a week or two. Mav is working out the details and hopes to tell us Monday. I just pray I’ll make it in time for your birthday.”
Y/n feels her heart skip, giving a soft smile, “You know I understand if you can’t, honey. If the Pentagon is tasking you then you know it’s important. We’ll celebrate either before or after you get back,” she assured, reaching over to hold his hand when he frowned.
“I just hate the idea of missing it, you know? It’s your birthday and I missed our anniversary last year,” he pauses to sigh, “I just hate leaving you guys for so long. And I never wanna make you feel like you’re always alone.”
“I knew what I was getting into when we fell in love. Don’t feel like you’re missing out or I’m going to suddenly start giving ultimatums because you know I’m not that person. If it was our anniversary or another memorable date I would still feel the same. You have a job, Jake, you’re the best there is to do it. There will be plenty more birthdays for us to be together for.”
Being back in the studio felt like a whole new world. It had been nearly five years since her last single was in late 2020. When Jake was working the kids would come with her and be the stars of the crew, playing in the mini play area they had set up while Y/n was recording. Besides the people she worked with, only Jake knew she was releasing new music. Quite literally Y/n did not announce anything until the night before with a single Tweet and Instagram post with the art cover and the caption, “Tomorrow at midnight, Between Us.”
She broke the internet to put it lightly.
@ Y/ns_microphone: WE’RE GETTING NEW MUSIC OMFG PLEASE TELL ME IT’S A WHOLE ALBUM!!
@ livinginharryshouse: y’all the High Note Princess is back I’m gonna lose it.
@ a_teenage_dream: 2025 ending on a great note 🥹 five years and the wait is over!!!!
@ dylanobrien ✔️: crying, shitting, throwing up. Thank you @ Y/n
August 2026
18 years in the music industry and the rush before a live performance had Y/n pacing backstage during the commercial break of the VMAs. Their children were being occupied by her manager while Jake helped her mentally prepare. He was going to be the one to present her the award at the end of her set, so they were just waiting for the green light from the stage manager. The performance was going to be nearly ten minutes, the longest she’s ever done live on an award show since it was going to be a medley of some of her classic hits while also including ‘Between Us’. Lady Gaga, Y/n’s close friend and who collaborated with her again on her most recent album, was going to introduce her.
“Deep breaths with me, baby,” Jake held her in his arms, kissing her forehead. “I can feel you shaking. But once you get on stage it’s gonna be like you never left.” Taking a strong inhale, Y/n let it out slowly before repeating.
“I know it probably won’t happen,” she starts to laugh, “but I can’t help but dread the idea of me falling on my ass or forgetting my lyrics.” Jake laughs with her, shaking his head while pulling away to look at her.
“Knowing you, you’d fall gracefully and make it look like it was intentional. Also you mumble those lyrics in your sleep…you won’t forget them.”
She leans more into him just as the stage manager yells, “You’re on in five, Y/n!” The commercial break must have ended. Lady Gaga was already being pulled on stage after wishing the popstar good luck with a hug and friendly kiss to the cheek. “We need you over here please.”
“That’s your cue,” Jake grins, cupping his wife’s face before bringing her in for a passionate kiss. Y/n smiles into it, nuzzling their noses together causing him to chuckle. When they pull away he says, “Go out there and have fun. Bottom line, baby, have fun out there and sing your heart out. I’m so lucky and honored to be your husband and share this life with you. Don’t start crying,” he playfully scolds when her eyes tear up, “you’ll ruin your nice makeup your team worked so hard on.” That makes her laugh. Jake kisses her again, “I love you, baby. I’ll see you at the end.”
“I love you, Jake,” she hugs him tightly, feeling comfort in the smell of his cologne. “Thank you for being by my side everyday. You’re the light of my life—,” she nods to the stage manager who was waving frantically. “Fuck okay, I wanted to be more romantic but I got to go before they drag me.”
“Go, go,” he kisses her cheek, Y/n moving quickly to kiss her children and hug her managers before waving goodbye. “We love you!!”
Running to the nearly annoyed stage manager, she throws off her robe to reveal her stage outfit and takes the microphone. Heart pounding, she adjusts her earpiece as they escort her to the spot she was needed just as Lady Gaga finished her introduction speech, “Los Angeles and to everyone watching at home, it is my honor to present to you your recipient of this year’s MTV Video Vanguard Award. Get on your feet and make some noise for the one and only, Y/n L/n!!”
It was still dark on stage where Y/n was hidden from the audience as all attention went to the giant screens all around showing the pre-recorded video montage with her face in black and white and eyes closed. The crowd was already going crazy as the camera zoomed in toward Y/n’s face while audio played of her talking about her love for music and the thrill of performing. The camera continued to pan in, the popstar on stage thinking about everything that had led her to that moment. From starting out her days singing in a jazz club, to becoming one of only 19 EGOT winners, and now the recipient of the Video Vanguard award.
The microphone went to her mouth, Y/n putting on the show of the year when the video ended with her eyes opening and voice echoing the music channel’s iconic phrase in the stadium, “I want my MTV!!”

Tumblr media
There’s this story that your English teacher had you read, right before winter break of your senior year. He’d said it was a good mirror tale to Macbeth, the Shakespearean title that your class was absolutely slogging through. The Monkey’s Paw by W. W. Jacobs, published about a hundred years before you were reading it.
At the time, you didn’t think too deeply about it. This story was like any other of the number of poems, journals, and creative whittlings that they threw at you for the sake of expanding your critical thinking capabilities. Lately, years since you’ve even set foot in your hometown, the story has haunted you. Your dreams, specifically.
Recalling the details of the story—the White family, their wealth and existence all glossy with a vague European sheen. Herbert White, crushed inside a factory machine as a consequence for his father’s greedy wish. You imagine the son’s corpse, mangled and battered beyond recognition, standing over you in bed. You’re unable to move, monstrous animal hands holding you down against the mattress. Herbert looms, staring, mouth lolling open because it has no choice. Then suddenly it’s you, a rotting corpse, staring down at yourself.
Today, you wake up at quarter past one. The sky is dark, the sun certainly not out. You are tempted to call Mia, reach for the phone to do so, then remember Sam. You hang up before it even has a chance to ring. Scrolling through your contacts, you hover over your father’s number for a moment, then shut off your phone. Everyone in here is a work contact or a landmine.
There’s finally food in your fridge, but none of it meets your appetite. Checking the cupboards, you push past boxes of Kraft Dinner, searching to no avail. What you’re looking for isn’t here. You don’t need a snack to tide you over and occupy the wait until you fall asleep again. That’s not happening. What you need is a good, cheap drink.
You put on clothes that match—dark colours and sneakers. Something socially acceptable that still, if unintentionally, indicates that a bar is not the venue you’d had in mind for the night. Thirty five minutes from home is a dive at the center of the city, the name irrelevant compared to the need the services inside will satisfy. The time has you antsy, practically dumping yourself into the driver’s seat as your car rumbles to life on the quiet street.
The I-75 is deserted, spare a few stragglers that glide past you, headed the way you’re coming from. No one is driving from the suburbs to the city at this time of night. No one but you.
If it were September, this would be different; all the college kids with rented bedrooms in laminate-floored McMansions built after the recession would be headed to the bars, just as you are. But it’s summertime, and all of those kids are at home in different states, surely as bored out of their minds as you were in your tiny apartment. Maybe not as lonely, though.
You pay the fourteen dollar parking fee, and that’s just for an hour, because you don’t feel like slowly trolling the block for some sketchy corner to leave the car. Instead, you’re parked right out front under the direct glow of a street lamp. No more horror movies for you tonight.
They don’t card you at the door, something you’re coming to appreciate as it happens more and more often now. Before it was a pain, digging your license out of whatever tacky pleather clutch was out for a spin that night; now you like the silent nod that bouncers give you, noting the tired look of age that’s replaced the bright wariness that used to be there. Soon enough, you’re sure, this event will start to feel bad. Everything does eventually.
The establishment you walk into is a true dive, but not quite a shit hole. It has the ever-present hum of low conversation and drinks clinking. A rack of billiards balls crack against each other as a game is started in the far corner of the room. The leather stool you take a seat on is plush beneath you. You already know you won’t be able to sit here very long. Hopefully the bartender doesn’t think it’s weird when you leave your seat to wander a couple antisocial laps.
At the thought, he materializes, throwing a rag over his shoulder. He asks what he can get started for you, leaning hard against the wood of the bar.
“Can I just get a gimlet?” you ask. The bartender nods, pushing himself off and away again. He returns minutes later with your drink, a pale greenish-yellow in the crystal tumbler he serves it to you in.
You barely get a sip down before someone slithers up to your side.
Rolling your eyes, you turn to the standing figure. “Look buddy—”
Frankie Morales, stunt pilot, smiles down at you.
“Oh,” you stop yourself. “Francisco. Hi.”
“Hey,” he says. “And it’s just Frankie.”
“Right. Sorry.”
“May I?” he asks, nodding to the stool beside you.
“Oh, yeah. Sure.”
You start to ask if Frankie got those contract papers from Mia at the same time as he asks, “So, what brings you out tonight?”
You shake your head. “Sorry. You go first.” Second apology of the night. This is going well.
“I got ‘em. Was gonna bring them back today, actually,” he says. That’s a relief. “So?”
“So, what?” you ask.
“You’re sitting in a bar, about…” He glances at the clock beside the clear bottles of liquor across from the two of you. “Six hours before you’re supposed to be on set. If I had to guess.”
“Four and a half,” you say. “But close enough.”
“D’you just enjoy a good dive bar?” Frankie asks.
“No,” you sigh, “I prefer titty bars. More glitter, less…vomit. Much more my speed.”
Frankie stares at you, face severe.
“I’m joking,” you clarify.
“Oh!” He breaks into awkward, relieved laughter. “Sorry.” One point for Francisco on the apology board.
You shake your head. “It’s fine. I’m a little dry in my humour.”
“You’re funny. More than most people got going for them,” Frankie says.
“Well, I’m glad I’ve got more than most people,” you smile. “What brings you here tonight? I figured titty bars were more your thing too.”
“You know, maybe for a special occasion. Tonight’s any other night, so I made my way down here. Lucky I caught you, huh?”
“I don’t know if I would call it luck. Coincidence? Have you pissed anyone off lately?” you ask.
“Well, whatever it is, I’m grateful. We didn’t get to finish our conversation,” Frankie says.
“You wanted to finish our conversation?” You feel that guilt from the other day, hot and foamy in your stomach, and take another sip of your drink.
“I like to get to know the people I’m working with,” he says. “You mentioned that you were a stuntperson.”
“Yep, I did,” you say. If only there was such thing as a time machine, so you could travel back to three days ago and slap yourself before the words could come out of your mouth.
“What’s the story there?” Frankie asks.
“Oh, nothing. It’s a long one.”
“I’ve got time,” he says.
“Longer than I’m willing to tell,” you say. Another sip of the gimlet, the tang of lime overtaking the sugar on your tongue.
“Okay,” Frankie says. You look at him, and there’s that twinkle again. “You can keep your secrets for now.”
“You’re asking about me when I barely know anything about you,” you say.
“Fine, what do you want to know? Favourite colour? Green. Favourite season? A toss up between summer and fall. My first dog’s name was Ruby, and we grew up on Yosemite Street.”
“All I need is your mother’s maiden name and you’ve become the perfect candidate for social security theft,” you say.
“I have a feeling you wouldn’t do it,” he says.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. There’s this general goodness that reverberates from you. Plus, Mia likes you,” Frankie says.
He catches your attention with that comment. What does that mean? “Have you known her longer than just the email exchange?” you ask.
“Eh. A little,” Frankie says.
“How?”
Frankie shakes his head, tutting lightly. “You have your secrets, and I have mine.”
He puts both of his hands on the bar, and only now do you notice he’s lacking a drink in either of them. Like Frankie the other day at the studio, you notice, but don’t comment.
“Fine. I’ll give you one,” you say.
“One what?”
“One secret. In exchange for yours.”
“I didn’t know you were a bartering man,” Frankie says.
“Neither did I,” you say. “Here’s my offer: I’ll tell you why I’m here, and you tell me how you know Mia.”
“Hmmm.” He makes a show of mulling it over in his head. “Deal.”
“I had a nightmare. It was pretty stupid,” you say. Frankie remains silent, waiting. “There was this story that I read in high school. Some early twentieth century horror fiction, about the whole monkey’s paw curls thing. I haven’t thought about it since high school but…I guess it’s been waiting for an opportunity to terrorize me.”
You finish the rest of the gimlet, waiting for Frankie to say something. When he doesn’t, you turn to see him watching you.
“What?”
“Nightmares. I get ‘em too,” he says. “Not Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark, but…” Right. War. “My solution is usually a good hot toddy and those twelve hour rain sounds videos online. Next thing I know, I’m out like a light. Hot toddy sans whiskey, though.” You raise an eyebrow, a silent question. “I’m sober.”
“Oh. But you’re here?”
“Jack serves me water and peanuts and I listen to him bitch about his mother,” he says, nodding at the bartender who’s currently talking to another customer.
The words come out before you can stop them. “You’re a little odd, aren’t you?”
Frankie chuckles, the sound never quite leaving his throat. “Takes one to know one, I guess.”
You roll with it, shoving down the embarrassment spreading warmth all over your body. “Okay, now tell me your secret. How do you know Mia?” you ask.
“I flew some of the planes she dove out of a couple times,” Frankie says. “There was this teen show? It’s been off the air for a few seasons, I think it was—”
“I remember,” you nod. “Well, hey. Small world.”
“Your turn again,” Frankie says.
“What? No, we had a deal.”
“And I gave you an extra secret. Two, if we’re really counting here. My top tier hot toddy trick, and my epic sober journey. But I’ll let you off with just the one.”
“Of the two of us, you are definitely the bartering man here.”
You think hard, trying to source a topic that won’t wedge loose anything you’d rather keep away from the charmingly persistent pilot to your right. Your childhood. Landmine. Your parents. Landmine. Your past with Mia, your career, the entirety of your personal life. Landmine, landmine, landmine.
“If you’re having trouble, I could help,” Frankie offers from beside you.
“Why, you have a burning question for me?” you ask.
“Not so much burning, more so just curious.” You don’t like the way the word sounds in his mouth. Laced with implication. “After our initial meeting, I was wondering why you were dressed like a paralegal when everyone else looks like they’re at the gym or watching Saturday morning cartoons.”
Ah. That’s a question you can answer easily. “Well, I don’t do the stunts, so that’s one part. The other…I don’t know. When I first started working, I was a PA. My supervisor told me that the best way to get noticed, to stick out in the good way, was to dress up a little. Show the powers that be that you’re taking things seriously.”
“But you’re not a PA anymore,” Frankie says.
“This is true, but,” you say, because there is always a but. “I can’t afford to not be noticed. In the good way, anyway. It’s how I got this job. I’m sure it’ll be how I get the next.” If. If you get the next. “When I can afford to not put the effort in, you’ll know. I just won’t be there.”
“I guess that makes sense,” Frankie says, repeating your own words from set back to you. It’s your turn to watch him now. From where you sit, he looks like a puzzle; you can’t figure out what exactly he’s supposed to be showing you right now, what game he’s set. You hate to admit that despite that, you’re having fun playing.
“And I’ll throw another one in for you, because why not,” you say, gimlet loosening your tongue just a bit. “Ashton Marilyn? My boss, your soon-to-be boss? The most pretentious douchebag I have ever met in my life. And that’s high praise. I lived in L.A..”
Frankie bows his head, seemingly relieved. “So it’s not just me then.”
“It’s not just you at all. The man makes my skin crawl.”
“After that little meet and greet, I was going to tell Mia that I couldn’t take the job,” Frankie admits.
“That would’ve sucked for me very specifically.”
“Be glad that I changed my mind then.”
“And what brought about this charitable change of heart?” you ask. “The money? I’d spend it all on dames and horses if I were you.”
“Nah. Air shows are light this year, but it wasn’t that,” Frankie says.
You take a hard turn, curiosity killing the proverbial cat that is your joking mood. “What was it then?”
Frankie raps his knuckles against the hard wood of the bar, looking out at those liquor bottles again. “I guess that’s for me to know and you to find out,” he says. Suddenly he’s standing, taking off his baseball cap to nod at you politely as he says your name. “I’ll see you around. Have a good night.”
Before you can ask another question, before you can stop him, Frankie is across the room and out the door.
-
You’re seated behind the wobbling desk that production has allowed you to call your own for the duration of filming. Underneath you is a gel seat cushion, supporting you in the swivel chair that Andy rescued from a Dumpster. Lunch is best spent up here with your yogurt cup, where no one can bother you. Ashton’s been up your ass all morning; he doesn’t like to talk to the stunt cast without your overseeing presence. He’s absolutely terrified of being reported for belittling behaviour, like he was on the last set he directed on. You both love and hate that the man’s biggest fear is being cancelled on social media.
At last, the gracious break for lunch had arrived, and now you are here. Blissfully alone with your breakfast parfait, watching the southern sun filter in through dusty windows in front of you. Watching the thousands of specks float through the air reminds you of stars. In college, Friday night was dedicated to Neil deGrasse Tyson. You forced Mia to watch all nine seasons of The Universe docuseries in eight months.
Aside from British literature, the cosmos features heavily in your dreams. The idea of zero gravity, specifically, since the accident. Nothing to keep you grounded to the surface beneath you; no force weighing on your spine. Floating in paradise.
A knocking at the doorway pulls your thoughts away from space, turning slowly to face the front of the office. It’s nothing special, with its puke green walls and the pendant lamp overhead, covered in grime. A time capsule of a bygone era.
Frankie leans in the room’s threshold, a neat stack of papers in his hand as he says hello.
“I was wondering when you’d make your way over here,” you say, plunking your spoon into your cup.
“I’m surprised you’re here at all,” he says, referencing this morning.
“When I have a job to do, I like to get it done.”
“You and that yogurt look hard at work.” He eyes your food, then asks, “Is that raspberry?”
“Boysenberry.”
“Ooh, fancy,” Frankie says.
You look at the reddish-brown fruit sitting atop a pile of granola. “Catering, you know. They get a little weird with it. Wanna keep your business.”
“Makes sense,” is all he says about that. “Anyway, these are for you.”
Frankie hands you the signed contract. You stick the spoon in your mouth, flipping through the pages to double check anything.
“What, you think I can’t read?” Frankie asks.
“Making sure I didn’t fuck up the wording of anything,” you mumble absently.
When everything looks about right, you stop flipping, turning over the stapled package to put your signature down next to Frankie’s. Your eyes linger over the fancy scribble of your name, watching the ink bleed into the paper. Then you look at Frankie’s signature. The F is harsh and bold, a stark contrast to the cutesy cursive letters that spell out the rest of his first name. A small circle sits overtop the line meant to be i in Francisco, like a cartoon cyclops.
“Great!” you say. “Thanks for this by the way. Don’t know if I’ll be able to say that enough in the time that we work together.”
“It’s no problem, really,” Frankie says. “Although I was wondering when I could see ‘er.”
Okay, now you’re confused. “Sorry, what?”
“You know, the helicopter. I’d like to get acquainted before we start rehearsal.”
You do not know the helicopter, mostly because there isn’t one. Another layer of seething rage towards Ashton settles over you, even if it’s a little misplaced. He’s the one who so gracefully sprung this on you with no plan in place.
You glance up at Frankie. You can’t tell him that there is no helicopter, not when he’s just signed this contract and locked himself into this wholly incompetent production.
So you say, “Let’s go see if production has anything for us,” with a slight smile, like everything’s fine, because everything will be.
Even though you can’t see him, you feel Frankie’s presence at your back. Leading him down the hall, you start to wonder why this needed to be a real helicopter. Why did Ashton need the real thing, with a real pilot? Half of this movie is made of scenes chopped up and filmed in front of a green screen. Why couldn’t this be the same?
Of course, that takes working with Frankie out of the equation, which if the way your stomach sours at the thought indicates anything, that’s would be bad . But now you have to choreograph a stunt with the very big, very dangerous obstacle of a helicopter in the mix. On the bright side, there’s a first time for everything…?
Moby is staring at a computer older than you when you brush into the production office, Frankie right behind you. A bagel spread with liver paté sits on a paper plate beside the keyboard, his glasses catching the reflection of the screen. You clear your throat, giving him a chance to minimize the tab of softcore porn he’s watching on mute.
“Oh! Hey,” he says, acknowledging you. “And…” Moby looks to Frankie, still standing behind you.
“Frankie Morales,” he introduces himself.
“What can I do ya’ for?” Moby asks.
“So you remember that helicopter?” you ask, cutting right to the chase.
“Uh, vaguely? I know the studio wanted it,” Moby says. This does not sound promising.
“Well this is the guy who’s supposed to fly it,” you say, nodding back at Frankie. He’s still lingering halfway between Moby’s office door and the hall, like he’s wary of entering. You try not to touch anything as you move to stand across from the sitting producer.
“That’s great,” is all Moby says.
“And he’d like to see the helicopter,” you say.
“Now, preferably,” Frankie adds.
Moby hisses on an inhale, a cat that’s been disturbed. “About that…”
“Moby Elias Clark, you are not about to tell me you don’t have a helicopter,” you say.
“Jesus. What are you, my SAG card?” he asks, hands up in defense. “It’s not like I’m sourcing aircraft every day here.”
“But that’s your job,” you say.
Moby lets out a hum of slight disagreement, the noise dying in his throat as you narrow a stare at him. “Look, I’ll talk to Ashton. Get something for you in a couple days,” he says.
“Today,” you say. “And you aren’t going to get something. We need to see them. He does.”
“I do,” Frankie agrees.
“What, you want to go helicopter shopping or something?”
You think about it for a moment, then say, “Yes. We want to go helicopter shopping. It’s eleven-thirty, we’ll be on set for another eleven hours. Make it happen. Today.”
“Geez, alright. I’ll make some phone calls, just—get the fuck out of my office, will you?” Moby asks.
Taking a deep breath, you square your shoulders and do as he asks, closing the door behind you. You can feel the come down from your sudden burst of adrenaline, brain coming back to yourself. Frankie looks at you, eyes bright with a smile across his lips.
“Remind me to stay off your bad side,” he says.
“So the goal isn’t to stay on my good side?”
“I like to set reasonable expectations for myself,” Frankie says.
Lunch ends, and it’s another hour before Moby gets back to you. He’s got a guy out in Athens with a fleet of helicopters for you two to look at. You immediately offer to take your car. As much as you don’t want to spend an hour in your own vehicle, filled to the brim with personal items and with them questions and stories, you can’t imagine the feel of the drive with Frankie’s truck’s suspension.
“Lead the way,” he says.
Moby meets you outside at your car, which Frankie seems surprised by.
“What’s wrong?” you ask. Moby’s already settling into the back seat.
“I didn’t know he was tagging along,” Frankie says.
“Well, his contact and all. It’s stunt budget but…it’d be best if he’s there, you know?” you ask. Frankie simply nods, pulling open the door to get into the front passenger seat.
The drive is an uneventful sixty-eight minutes, spent mostly listening to the quiet radio or Moby’s phone call with Ashton as he tries to placate him about both of your absences on set.
“Listen, it’ll be fine. We got the stunts we needed done before nine-thirty,” Moby says. A brief pause as Ashton surely bitches over the line. “I know. I know, it’s difficult, but Marie’s there.” Another producer on this heaping shitstorm of a movie. “I’m sure Gwen can help you with the continuity of the shots.” She should anyway, considering that’s her job and all. As you drive up the road towards the massive airplane hangar that Moby’s sourced address belongs to, he ends the call with a hasty goodbye.
Frankie hasn’t said anything about the cushion on your seat in the car, identical to the one on your office chair. He didn’t ask about the Hawaiian Breeze air freshener hanging from your mirror, or the chunky ring hanging on a thin silver chain that sways beside it. He’s been nothing but silent this past hour, picking at a tiny hole in the pocket of his jeans. For some reason, it bothers you.
As the three of you get out of the car, the sun hits you. Burning and relentless, you shield the top of your forehead from the rays as you walk towards the wide mouth of the hangar. The walls tower over you, concrete beneath your shoes turning to bright grey resin floors. Moby takes the lead on the interaction, shaking hands with a man that looks more like a mechanic than a business man in his blue cotton coveralls.
Moby introduces you and Frankie to the man. “John Whittaker. Nice to meet you both.” His handshake is firm, palms calloused. An orange shammy cloth is slung over his shoulder casually, the knees of his work suit stained with grease.
“So do you take care of these, then?” you ask.
“What? Oh, no. I own ‘em.” John looks over his shoulder at the half dozen helicopters grounded in the hangar.
“I think I’ve seen that one on Law and Order,” Frankie says, pointing to the skinniest craft of the bunch.
“You’ve probably seen them all over the place. I do a lot of business in the entertainment sector,” John says.
“That’s great. I know this was kind of last minute, but our studio put us in a bit of a time crunch,” you say.
“It’s no problem at all,” he shakes his head. “What kind of ‘copter were you thinking you’d need?”
You’re blanking, fumbling the words in your mouth when Frankie steps in.
“Nothing too complicated. It has to look military, but y’know, your average civilian isn’t going to know the difference. Ideally something that handles nicely. Give myself a break, you know?” he asks with a laugh.
John and Frankie seem to understand each other immediately, minds interlocking and delving into aviation talk that you can’t understand. You hang back a bit as Whittaker leads you between each helicopter. Moby trails behind you, typing away on his phone, wholly uninterested.
You should be looking at the helicopters and their large, would-be spinning blades, noting the glossy varnish on some of them and the grainy-finished camouflage on others. Instead you watch Frankie, observing how his brow scrunches together when John poses him a question you can’t quite hear.
He turns to ask you something in turn, catching you in the act. Immediately, you look away, eyes darting to the glowing floor.
“We’d definitely need it for a few weeks,” Frankie says to John, then back to you. “Right?”
“Yes,” you confirm. “About seven or eight rehearsals across a couple weeks, and then a day or two for the actual shoot. That part depends on our director.”
John hums, nodding. “That should work for me. This one,” he says, pointing to the helicopter just off to your right, “isn’t available in that timeframe, but otherwise you’ve got your pick of the litter.”
“You think we could hop inside? Not take her out, but just get a feel for the thing,” Frankie asks.
“Sure.”
You watch as Frankie walks along the row of helicopters, stopping at the one at the very end of the hangar. Its body shines a deep black under the fluorescent lights. Frankie steps up to it, pulling the door open and getting in. You follow him over to the metal creature, standing next to the landing skids. He’s left the door open, sitting in the cockpit by himself.
“You coming?” Frankie asks.
“Me?” you return. He nods. “Inside? Is that safe?”
“Of course it’s safe. Come on.” He stands from the pilot’s seat, leaning out to help you up. You take his hand, firm and warm over your own, feeling him pull you up by your arm as you step into the helicopter. He takes a seat on the other side of the cabin, leaving you to the seat in front of the main controls.
The leather seat beneath you is dense, warmed only a little by Frankie’s back. Dials and buttons you have no idea the purpose of lay on the dashboard before you, the lights unblinking as the machine remains powered down. Being in here strikes a chord with you. What could it be like when this thing was actually in the air?
“Okay, this is kind of cool,” you admit. “You do this for a living? I got into the wrong damn profession.”
Frankie smiles, holding his tongue between his teeth as he looks everything over. “I could definitely see you flying.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Sure. You’ve got the same intensity of everyone I went to flight school with,” Frankie says.
“You’re not too intense,” you say.
“We’re still on each other’s good sides.”
“I see,” you nod sagely. “I’ll have to play nice in case you decide to land this thing on me.”
You spend another hour getting in and out of the other five helicopters, even the one you know you can’t use, letting Frankie explain everything about them. The first one you sat in is a coaxial helicopter, which is why it has two giant rotors overhead; it eliminates the need for a tail rotor and simplifies the aircraft’s design. The one beside it—a Kaman K-MAX, Frankie tells you—looks squished, like it’s been pinched at the nose. He calls it an intermeshing rotor chopper, and you simply call it what it is: ugly.
“We used synchropters a lot in the military,” Frankie says. “Standard operations, search and rescue. They’re good for dense terrain. Forests, jungles, that type of thing.”
You are sure that if it were anybody else telling this to you, you would be bored out of your mind. Helicopters, rotors, terrain, who cares? But with the way Frankie explains it, you can’t help but listen. A special liveliness highlights his features as he tells you about each chopper, he keeps saying that, and you want him to keep talking.
When you finally leave the hangar, dragging yourself away from their hard polished bodies and all that Frankie has to say about them, it’s almost five. You promise to send John an email by tomorrow at the latest, ironing out all of the finer details. The drive back to Atlanta is less starkly silent, Frankie throwing out a helicopter anecdote every few minutes as he stares out at the horizon. It reminds you of a little boy who’s just discovered something, immediately fascinated.
When you reach the studio, Moby ambles out of the car without much more than a quick and impersonal goodbye, leaving just the two of you.
“That was fun,” you say. You can’t remember the last time the sentiment has rang true about anything work related. About anything at all really.
“I’m glad I could teach you something,” Frankie says.
“Something? I think I’m ready to fly one of those things all on my own now.”
“I don’t know about that,” he says, shaking his head. “I think I like you better grounded.”
“Why? Scared I’d take off and never come back?” you ask.
“Would you?” he asks, playful and light. Still, it pulls at something in your gut. Would you?
Instead, you ask, “Do you want to grab something to eat?”
Frankie looks at you, then at the studio. “Don’t you have a job to get back to?”
“My next call time is at seven.” It’s six-something. That leaves you with about an hour to kill.
“I guess. If you’ve got time.”
You don’t tell him where you’re going until you get there, driving two miles from the studio to park beside a 7-Eleven.
“This is where you want to eat?” Frankie asks.
“I never promised you a steakhouse,” you say.
Walking through the aisles of the store with Frankie feels oddly close. Like you’ve skipped all the small talk and jumped right to the good stuff; the come-easy moments of connection without the awkward easing in, a newly-built house already settled on the foundation. You stick to the packaged and processed goods—Doritos and bottled water—staring at Frankie with your mouth half open as you watch him buy a corn dog.
“What?” he asks incredulously.
“You’re disgusting,” you mumble, holding the door open for him as you stroll back into the night air. The sun’s beginning to set behind your car.
“You bring me to the convenience store for dinner and expect me to not eat the convenience store food?”
“Yes,” you nod.
“So you want me to starve,” Frankie states. He sits on the curb, out of the way of the neon flash of the open sign.
“If it meant you not eating that, then sure.” You gently crouch down next to him. He makes direct eye contact as he takes the first bite. You feign a shudder.
“So we got the chopper,” Frankie says, mouth still half full, and you can’t help but roll your eyes at the word. “And you’ve got me.” He swallows. “Now all we need to do is do the thing.” He means the scene.
“Practice doing the thing,” you say, “and then do the thing. And then we’re done.” Summing up the next month of work in terms like this makes your stomach lurch. You’re beginning to think you’ve found another Mia. Another friend. You say, “I can’t believe we haven’t worked together before.”
“By proxy,” Frankie replies. “I knew who you were. A little.”
“I’m flattered,” you say, coming out like a question.
“Nothing but good things,” he assures you. “Not much, period.”
He continues to eat his corn dog as you slowly sip at your water. Just spit it out already.
“So I’m not good at this anymore,” you say. “But… Oh god.” You sigh, then look at Frankie. “How do you ask people to be friends once you aren’t seventeen anymore?”
“That’s a great question. I don’t know the answer,” Frankie says.
“I want us to be friends.” The words feel strange, too solid coming out of your mouth.
“I’d like that. It would be nice to have someone to talk to that doesn’t know what the inside of a basic training camp looks like.”
“So all of your other friends, they’re just military guys?”
“Well when you say it like that.”
“Not just. You know what I mean,” you say. “I’m glad to bring a different…tone to your life, I guess.”
“Perspective,” Frankie supplies, “Experience. Never went to college myself.”
“You’re not missing out,” you shrug. The Doritos bag opens with a slight pop. “The best parts of college were all the moments outside of class, if that tells you anything. That’s where I met Mia.”
Frankie hums, tossing the wooden stick that remains of his corn dog down onto the ground. “That figures. You two’ve got that bond.”
“What bond?”
“You and her seem to be interconnected,” he says.
“You mean codependent,” you say.
“No, not like that. I guess it’s something like what I have with my buddies from spec ops. Sticking with someone long enough, you start to grow under their skin. I don’t think it’s a bad thing.”
You pull a chip from the bag and put it in your mouth. “Alright Topgun,” you say.
“Actually, they call me Catfish. Fish, really,” Frankie says.
You blink at him. “I’m sorry?” you ask, mouth still full. “Like the animal that swims?” He nods. “Is that because—”
“It’s a long story,” he says.
“I thought you liked those,” you say.
“This one, you gotta earn,” Frankie counters.
“Touché.” And then, “So you know about all of my friends. The one. What about yours?”
“Well, there’s Santiago. He’s the only one still doing action hero shit these days. Private contracts, y’know, the works. He’s a bit of an asshole. You two probably wouldn’t get along,” Frankie says. “Benny and Will Miller are brothers, but Ben’s more of a pain in the ass. Will’s always been sort of on the straight and narrow.”
“Sounds like an interesting bunch.”
“This is the part where I tell you I have a kid,” Frankie says, looking halfway between you and his boot. You don’t know what kind of reaction he’s looking for, what he’s expecting, but you don’t give it.
You’re waiting for him to continue when you finally say, “Alright.”
“I’m waiting for the shock and awe,” he says.
“Why would that be either shocking or aweful?” you ask. Under different circumstances, you could’ve had kids by now, and Frankie’s older than you.
“People don’t usually expect it.”
“Well you aren’t exactly carrying around a sign, but we are adults. People have kids, I know that. What’s yours like?”
“She’s the sweetest bundle of joy I’ve been blessed to receive in my life,” Frankie says. “When she first got here, I couldn’t even believe it. This tiny human being that I am somehow apart of."
You figure this is how Mia will feel soon, what she’ll be thinking about once she and Sam tie the knot. Maybe she’s even thinking it now. Something that even you could wonder about, with a few major life tweaks. But no, you don’t want kids. Your body has been changed enough beyond your control for a lifetime.
“I’m happy for you,” you say, because it’s polite and showing him the apathy that coats your insides when it comes to this topic probably isn’t the best move in the name of friendship.
“Thanks. So how about you?” Frankie steers the conversation back around.
“Kids? You’re funny,” you say.
“Well, anything. Boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse…?”
“Certainly not. Me, all by myself. I have a house plant if that counts?”
“No dice,” he shakes his head. You feel like you’re under constant surveillance in moments like this, Frankie’s eyes a camera pointed right at your soul. “You’re doing that thing again.”
“What thing?” you ask, biting down on another chip.
“You freeze up and get all quiet whenever I ask about yourself.”
If he’s noticed that, you are worse at pretending than you thought. Now you have to wonder what Mia can see, what she doesn’t mention. “There’s not much to tell,” you say.
“Oh, come on. People love talking about themselves. It’s a scientific fact.”
“Well Bill Nye, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t.” Everything about your delivery is meaner than intended, each word harshly paved and scraping as they fly out at Frankie. “Sorry. That was—that was rude.”
“It’s fine,” Frankie says.
“To answer your question… My work is my life. I eat, sleep, and breathe what I do. It’s to the point where I used to stay up at my old place and draw out choreo for scenes. This was months before production, and I had sketchbooks filled with five, six different ways a scene could play out. And before that, actually doing the stunts? It’s the only thing that made me realize what makes me happy. The rush, that pure adrenaline after you do something that could kill you and you don’t die? It didn’t matter where I was. As long as I was doing it, my favourite place was myself.”
You clear your throat, scrubbing a palm over the side of your jaw. “Is that your favourite part of the job?”
“Nah, not really,” Frankie says.
“What, then?”
“In our line of work, you meet some pretty cool people along the way.”
“You think I’m cool?” you ask.
“Oh, no. I wasn’t talking about you.” But as he says it, Frankie smiles, mustache curling above his lip.
He thinks you’re cool. He’d like to be friends. They call him Fish. When you’re with him, you feel your bones start to settle. You can already feel Frankie growing under your skin.

Love Marks 🖤
David/GN!Reader
Summary: You love and accept every part of your body, and so does David. Little do you know, your lover is hiding a few insecurities towards his own body. He's spent so much time loving you, it's time he learns to love himself.

Thank you @michael-after-hours for the writing request! This story is SFW fluff. Please enjoy!
WARNINGS: Body image issues, Insecurity
Tumblr media
It was so rewarding to be comfortable in your own skin. Years of insecurities, diet culture, and aggressive advertising on what the “perfect” body should look like had kept you down. It went on for far too long, and you decided at one point you had enough of it. Overcoming your confidence issues was a difficult task, but you had learned to love the body you had, appreciating every single inch.
That also meant getting more comfortable with showing off some skin. One of the things you had struggled with the most for ages was your stretch marks. It took you quite a while to figure out that they were a lot more common than you realized, and that there was nothing to be ashamed of with them.
Just like bodies, they came in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. They weren’t ugly or a problem, they were just something you could have.
So with time, you learned to show them off with pride. After all, you lived in Santa Carla, and the weather could get quite hot in the summertime. The less clothing you wore, the better. Crop tops, shorts, tank tops, anything that showed off your amazing body. You loved it dearly, and now you wouldn’t feel ashamed showing it off to the world.
It was actually the reason you met the boys.
You were at a concert on the beach, listening to the music without a care in the world. Four incredibly handsome boys were checking you out and offered a dance with you. The rest was history.
Not only were you in with the coolest biker gang in all of Santa Carla, but you had also won the heart of their leader. David. Your platinum blond, devilish-grinned knight in shining armor.
The other boys already found you attractive, but David was absolutely enamored by you. He was an old soul, kissing your hand and whispering sweet nothings about how no artwork of Venus herself could compare to you.
And as for the stretch marks? Oh, he adored them. He affectionately called them "tiger stripes" and loved to take his gloves off to trace his bare fingers along them. He mapped out each line carefully, memorizing your marks. If he was feeling extra lovey, he would get down and press kisses along your belly and thighs. Your sequels of delight only fueled his need to kiss you more.
He truly did love you and he thought your body was perfect.
But while he thought highly of you, there was this lingering feeling that he might not feel the same way about himself. Sure, David was quite confident. He had a cocky grin and an assertive strut to his walk whenever he and the boys hit the streets. He knew nobody could touch him and he was always in control.
It was more subtle hints that you picked up on. The first one was how he bundled up more than his brothers. While they flaunted their abs and firm chests every night, David was fully covered with a thick shirt and not one, but two long jackets. If you ever asked if he was too hot, he'd insist he was fine.
Another was in relation to your intimate moments together. He always undressed you first, ravenous for your body in every sense of the word. But when it was his turn to disrobe, he shut off the lights before doing so. You had been with him for a while now, yet you still hadn't seen his entire body under his clothing.
One day, you finally figured out why that was.
It was a complete accident. You had been in your room with David, cozy on your bed while he was looking through some movies for you two to potentially watch together. He hadn't slept too well during the morning, so he let out a large yawn and lifted his arms up to stretch.
When he did so, his shirt pulled up at the bottom, allowing you to see all of his stomach. To both your surprise and delight, David was a bit thicker in the waist. Soft and curvy with a happy trail of brown hair under his belly button.
What truly caught your attention were the marks on his belly. Stretch marks. Just like your own.
But you didn't get a good enough look. He noticed you staring. A spark of panic showed in his eyes and he swiftly pulled his outfit back into place.
"Wait! David, please don't be shy!" you pleaded. Quick on your feet, you slipped off the bed and made your way over to him. He was always so confident but now he had an expression of shame on his face.
"What's wrong, honey?" you cooed. "I have stretch marks too! You don't want me to hide them, do you?"
He looked absolutely shocked you would even suggest such a thing.
"Never, my love," he said, pulling your hand to his lips for a kiss. "I adore your body more than I could possibly explain. It's just…your marks are perfect. Mine aren't"
You were positively shocked. David was the most handsome man you ever laid eyes on. He was perfect in your eyes, especially if he had stretch marks like your own.
"What are you talking about? Why don’t you like them?"
"Well, there was once a time long ago when people made fun of me. I wasn't the man I am now. I was soft-spoken and very timid. It gave others the chance to point out my flaws"
He leaned against part of the bedroom wall, looking down at his feet while crossing his arms. It seemed that he really couldn't look you in the eyes admitting such things.
"I was a bit chubby as a child. Less than I am now, but it caused these marks on my stomach to show up. I'm already very pale, so they're quite  noticeable. I grew to hate them. So you know what I did?"
"What did you do, honey?" you asked, being as sweet as possible with your tone.
"I covered up. I refused to let anyone see me underneath. I acted tougher and more assertive so others would treat me with more respect," he explained. "The reason why I'm much more supportive of others with their own bodies is that I would never want them to feel the insecurities I felt"
David finally looked up from the floor, meeting your gaze with those perfect, blue eyes. For once, he had a genuine, soft smile rather than a smirk.
"You are perfect, inside and out. I'll never stop feeling that way, even if I don't feel that way about myself"
It broke your heart to see David look so insecure. Whatever hate he had experienced was completely unjustified. You adored him for all that he was, and it was important to you that he saw that too.
So you were going to do something about it.
"David," you said softly. "Give me your hand"
He seemed skeptical of whatever it was you had in mind. His eyebrow was raised and his posture stiffened. And yet, he knew he could trust you. With his hand slipped into yours, you guided him into the bathroom. It was where your biggest mirror was and it was crucial for what you needed to do.
David wasn't entirely happy with his reflection. He made a face when he caught sight of his image. Poor thing was probably thinking of a hundred things he didn't like about himself.
"Now then. You know what I see when I look at you?" you asked him. You wrapped your arms around his waist, gently tugging him into a hug from behind.
"I see someone who has shown me nothing but true kindness since the day we met. Someone who would do anything for the ones he loves. All that love you have inside your heart makes you truly perfect"
He was starting to soften up a bit. Though his expression was now in a playful smirk at your mushy words, you watched him stay focused as you went on.
"Every part of your appearance reminds me of something special about you. That beard on your face makes me think of all the laughter you've caused when you tickle my skin. Your lips remind me of every tender kiss we've shared. These arms have held me close while the hands caressed me, letting me feel safe when I'm having a bad day"
You traced over each part of David you listed off. After all the amazing moments you two had shared together, you could have done this blindfolded. With each part, David seemed a little bit happier.
Feeling bold, you took hold of the bottom hem of his shirt, tugging it upward to reveal his stomach. Though shame was painted on his face at the sight of those marks, you had nothing short of pure adoration for them.
"And these," you cooed, tracing your fingers over the lines. "Remind me of how fierce you are. Tiger stripes. That's what you call mine. David, you are the bravest, strongest, most loyal man I've ever met. You are the most amazing partner I could ever dream of having, and I would be proud to tell anyone you're mine"
Something in his eyes showed that lingering insecurity. But with every sweet word you shared, the more it faded away. The way he looked at your reflections together was as if he was falling in love all over again.
"You never once made me feel ugly with my own stripes, and I want to do what I can to return that kindness. You're perfect, David. I wouldn't change a thing about you because I love everything about you. I love you"
The words surprised even you. It had all come from the heart and without how full it was for David, you could have written a book describing your love.
He must have appreciated it because his icy blues were starting to spot with tears in the corners. David was certainly not one to cry, yet here he was getting misty-eyed. He smiled bashfully as he quickly wiped them away.
"God, I love you too," he sighed. David looked away from the mirror so he could turn to you, pulling you close for a kiss. You could have melted right then and there.
When you both released from the kiss, he pressed his forehead to yours, sharing a tender moment before speaking again.
"Just don't tell the other guys about me almost crying"
Laughter filled the room as the two of you burst into a fit of giggles. It was just too adorable seeing him so happy and carefree again. That was the David you knew and loved.
The two of you embraced for another minute before heading back to your room. With David in good spirits again, you both were able to pick the best movie and get it started so your date night could continue.
You cuddled him close in your bed, head tucked in the crook of his neck, and your body snuggled into his side. Your fingers had made their way under his shirt again, gently caressing his stretch marks as he had done several times for you.
Never again would either of you feel shame for them. They were love marks. Something that reminded you both of how truly special you were.

top five concerts you've been to?
(just top concerts if you havent been to five)
GREAT QUESTION!! i have a lot to say abt all of these so sorry for my ramblings in advance but in no particular order we have:
1. MCR Boston2 - its hard for me to pick my favorite of my MCR shows but the setlist for this one juuuust pushes it over my first show i think. got to gear sooo many of my faves that night- SCARECROW and Deathwish and Summertime and Boy Division and Best Day Ever and Cancer!!!!! they played a lot of danger days song which obviously i fucking LOVED and idk something abt Famous Las Words really got to me that night. maybe its bc even tho our seats were kinda shitty that meant i could see basically the whole crowd as well as the stage and i just remember feeling so at home like "oh yeah. you all understand too huh?". i was also dressed as party poison that night so a lot of cool people came up to talk to me lmao
2. Set It Off at the Palladium for the Dopamine Tour - my most recent time seeing the boys AND MY FIRST TIME MEETING THEM!!!! they were all so sweet and they played an acoustic version of Bleak December which had me Felling Things. AND THEN THE SETLIST FOR THE SHOW ITSELF WAS INCREDIBLE AND THEY FUCKING PLAYED MISS MYSTERIOUS WHICH US LIKE MY FAVORITE SONG EVER OF ALL TIME AND ID RATHER DROWN WHICH IS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVES AND FUCKING ILL SLEEP WHEN IM DEAD WHICH WAS MY ANTHEM IN MIDDLE SCHOOL- and also Scene Queen opened and she was fucking spectacular and im really glad i lost my dad in the crowd before her set bc i lost my shit screaming along with her sings and he Did Not need to hear that 💀
3. Fall Out Boy at Darien Center - first time seeing fob the seats were so fucking good and i met so many cool people AND HEARD HEADFIRST SLIDE AND YOURE CRASHING AND 27 AND GET BUSY LIVIN AND- also i was at the park connected to the venue and i fucking left before the rest of my family to get some rest before the show. and literally as soon as i get to the fucking hotel my dad texts me a picture of PETE FUCKING WENTZ. IF I HAD JUST WAITED LIKE TEN MINUTES I COULDVE MET PETE WENTZ BUT NOOOO I WANTED TO REST SO J WOULDNT GET A HEADACHE IM STILL NOT OVER THIS MY DAD WHI DOESNT LIKE FOB SAW PETE WENTZ AFTER I HAD BEEN JOKING ABT JT ALL DAY GOD HATES ME BUT ITS FINE BC AT LEAST I GOT TO LOSE MY SHIT TO HEADFIRST SLIDE ONLY SONG EVER OF ALL TIME
4. Set It Off at Toad's Place for the Welcome to Elsewhere Tour - yes of course they're on here twice idc if theres other vands i could mention THEYRE THEM. this show was incredible, i managed to push my way almost to barricade by the end of the show AND i caught one of zach's guitar picks!! the openers were both killer too, but Cherie Amour in particular stood out to me so obviously i bought a CD after their set (which was SIGNED and i got to meet/take a photo with Trey and Brendan and they were both so nice it was awesome)
5. The Used & Pierce the Veil (i forget where this was and im too lazy to look it up rn 💀) - VICS VOICE LIVE HELLO????? HOW DOES HE SOUND LIKE THAT IM IN LOVE WITH HIM RAAAAGH- and look even tho i love ptv im much more of a casual fan when it comes to them so it was nice bc i had fun during their set but still had so much energy left over for THE MOTHERFUCKING USED. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW LOUD I WAS SCREAMING WHEN BERT CAME ON STAGE MAN AND GE WAS HOLDING A TRANS FLAG WHEN HE WALKED OUT AND THAT ALONE NEARLY MADE ME CRY THEY WERE SO AMAZING IM VERY INCOHERENT ABT THIS SHOW BC I LOVE THEM SM IT WAS SO FUN AND I CANT WAIT TO (HOPEFULLY) SEE THEM AGAIN NEXT MONTH

thinking about being wedding guests with jeonghan and sneaking away during the reception to swim in the river just beyond the line of trees decorated with lights that you admired only hours earlier as you entered the pretty venue. imagine his laughter and the feeling of his hand enveloping yours. your heels in hand, standing at the shoreline, and feeling the cool sand and pebbles beneath your feet. the air is chilly. the water certainly freezing, but it’s summertime and you’re in love, and he’ll cover your soaking dress with his suit jacket afterwards. you’ll lay in the grass, lulled by the sound of music carried faintly over the trees and through the wind. you can see his skin through the sheerness of his button down. his collarbones shine from the water. his hair falling over his eyes is so dangerous wet. he’s breathtaking.
“i’ve been waiting for forever to do something like this.”
“i didn’t know you wanted to.”
“it’s not something you can plan. it wouldn’t have felt the same.”

similar to an ask you already got but do you have any good summer scents? i really need a summer scent as all of the ones i bought are definitely more fall appropriate. my summer is gonna be full of going out on the lake, going on walks/hikes through fir trees and ferns, etc. maybe some bonfire notes in one of them? just something that screams summer- sweet but active and fun, maybe a lil earthy and salty. thank you!!! maybe even one based around a humid summer evening as well...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
before the rainbow by the fine'ry
this is inspired by a way more expensive fragrance by jo malone, but it's infinitely better and cheap!! fresh, salty, and earthy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
venus euplea by nui colbalt designs
a cheap indie fragrance that holds up pretty well for summertime. it's got a zest from the lime, coolness from the honeydew, and everything together gives off a sort of summer ocean breeze vibe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cape heartache by imaginary authors
definitely recommended before, but i will never back down on my love for her... absolutely perfect fragrance for a summer full of being in nature. makes me think of my oregon camping summer days 🫶
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sailing day by replica
sorry for Another more oceanic recommendation, but sailing day is a really good summer fragrance!! it's spicy, salty, a liiittle floral...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a city on fire by imaginary authors
now this one is for your bonfire request specifically! if you want to smell like you've just got back from a bonfire, this is the go-to. maybe a bit heavy on the burnt smell, but it dries down alright after a while. you will definitely smell like fire smoke out in nature
other recommendations (hit the photo limit lol):
woody tobacco by dossier — a cheaper alternative to jazz club by replica. i LOOOVE this fragrance and i think it suits your request well. jazz club is fantastic but more expensive, either one would work 👍
fume by hendley — sadly sold out right now but you might find it somewhere online. pine, incense, green earthy goodness i love it and this would be my #1 recommendation if you can find it somewhere!
vince camuto by...vince camuto — yummy musky peppery citrus lavender wood smell!! its longevity is kind of crap if im being honest but it really is a good smell
i hope these help!! tbh i have more i could probably recommend if you're unsure of these

3, 16, and 29 (for the music ask!) :3
thank you so much for the ask !! this is gonna be long bc i love to talk about music, sorry <3
3 : a song that reminds you of summertime dispatch opened with "be gone" when i saw them live last july and hearing the drums in the beginning takes me back to the venue in the best possible way <3 actually most dispatch songs are very summertime to me in a driving to the beach way. alternate non-dispatch answer is "strange overtones" by david byrne (sorry there's a bunch of answers, i am dreadfully indecisive <3 this will be a theme <3)
16 : one of your favorite classical songs my first thought is shostakovich's "jazz suite no. 2: vi. waltz no. 2" or saint-saëns' "danse macabre" but idk if this means classical like The Classical Period from 1750-1820 or classical like a composition? my favorite classical era piece is tchaikovsky's "waltz of the flowers" bc i'm basic and i did ballet growing up (but i prefer the romantic period of ballets personally)
29 : a song that you remember from your childhood i Loved "save a horse (ride a cowboy)" by big and rich when i was a kid if that says anything about me? another classic that i was super normal about is "if i die young" by the band perry bc i remember hearing it like the day after i almost drowned in my friend's pool and there's a line that says "sink me in the river at dawn / send me away with the words of a love song" and it freaked me out <3 unrelated to that but "a thousand miles" by vanessa carlton also
(questions from this post !)
