one thing someone asked me irl was ‘how long would it take for you to be able to speak to me?’

time really ain’t the issue. i can count many people ive known for years and yet have only maybe said a few words in front of. there is no ‘waiting it out’ and there is no magical formula to get someone to be less anxious around you. yes, trust is earned and lost, but anxiety is also the distortion of even the most trustworthy behaviour as a threat (eg. my brain might say to me“they complimented your voice; why did you speak?”)

getting them to speak shouldn’t even be your main aim anyway. because speaking =/= more trust. speaking =/= more friendship. when you try to equate how kind you are to me with how much i can speak to you, you end up disappointed, and you end up hurting me.

when people take me communicating or not communicating with them as some kind of moral trip, it’s telling. my speaking isn’t a measure of my relationship with someone.

just take them as they are, enjoy their presence. if all you want is words from them, you’re using them. the words may never come, but the relationship is intrinsically worthwhile. 🌹🌹

Jazz stood in her Fenton Ghost Peeler Suit and crossed arms before a group of Gothams vigilantes. Her little brother was hugging her around the shoulder, in his Phantom form and floating. His face pressed into her shoulder and letting out quite ghostly whines couple with her name in ghost speech. He was clearly distressed.

With crossed arms, she glared at Gotham's vigilantes. They stood before her as a group. But the front took... Nightwing? She believed that was the name he used to introduce himself, who had the current Robin clinging to his arm. The kid looked as distressed as her brother, and normally, she would care to help, but right now, she was in protective sister mode. HER brother came first.

"We really mean no harm. It's just Robin and the others mistook him for a clone, and we would like to-"

"No." She cut the guy off. She glanced at HER baby brother, still refusing to look up and face the situation as he made another ghostly whine, before looking back at the group of vigilantes.

"I can see how they could be related." She raised an eyebrow below the visor at how hopeful the groups stance became. They don't know Danny's human form, but that's the excuse they use for attack her brother? They assumed he was a clone just because he looked like the inverted image of one of them? Fat chance that she would let them anywhere near him now. "But, you attacked MY baby brother-"

"And we are very sorry about that!" Nightwing cut in but Jazz ignored it.

"The point is you attacked him. I don't care if they are related. This is MY baby brother and if that is their reaction on seeing him and handling his own ghost rogues. I will NOT allow them to be part of his life unless Phantom wants it himself."

Turning around, she pat her baby brothers head and whispered to him in ghost speech. "Common Danny, let's go. Let's visit that planetarium you wanted to see later. After that we never have to come to Gotham again, I can go to another university somewhere far away from here."

They didn't know Phantom was Danny Nightingale, neither did they know that she was Jasmine Nightingale. This would be a one-time meeting and stay that way. Her baby brother did not need people like that in his life after the falling out with their parents they had.

I just have a lot of feelings about Astarion having no one to care about him or do anything kind for him in so long, and getting a messy little found family that goes out of their way to take care of him. Even when it doesn’t benefit them in any way!

They experiment with making dishes with blood for him so he can eat meals with the rest of the party. They get him a parasol enchanted with the Darkness spell, which casts a heavy shade over him and lets him go outside on cloudy days for a short period of time after he loses all the benefits of the tadpole. It’s not the same as being able to walk freely in the sun, but it at least gives him a little more freedom during the day.

His friends are willing to walk with him into Cazador’s palace and fight by his side and protect him, but they’re also willing to do him smaller gestures, little kindnesses to accommodate his needs and help him enjoy living again!

It takes a while to get used to receiving kindness, but after a while, he starts learning to give it in return. He keeps an eye out when pickpocketing for any trinkets his companions might like. He becomes the party tailor, doing any repairs and alterations to their clothes.

He’s still a bitch, make no mistake! But he’s a bitch who’s learned to allow people to be kind to him, to trust that people can be good to him without expecting anything in return, and to be able to give that kindness back in turn.

dean and cas love and trust each other unconditionally. they give and they forgive easily. there is never a debt to settle. never a score to keep. i'd rather have you, cursed or not. i prefer trusting, less dumb less ass. i'll go with you (again and again and again). i forgive you, i need you. of course i forgive you. of course i wanted you to stay. i've got you. i love you. etc etc. they are best friends first and foremost. they can talk to each other and be real. they know when the other is lying about being "fine" and they call each other out on it. and then they listen. they get angry sometimes, and miscommunicate often, but they are always approaching everything with the desire to understand, to work together. they worry. they make bad choices sometimes out of a desire to protect the other. keep each other out of a situation and out of the loop. take on the burden for the other. all these flaws and wrong choices are still rooted in love and care. they care SO much. that love and care is at the center of everything they do.
