Trope Tag Game
Thank you @vintagecivet for tagging us!
Rules: Look back on your work, both past and present, finished and unfinished. What are five to ten narrative elements or tropes that continuously pop up in your work?
LGBTQ+ Themes We almost always have LGBTQ+ themes in our writing, especially trans themes.
Weirdcore imagery I just love that kind of stuff. It really connects to our experience as a system and how we view reality due to it.
Supernatural Events From demons, to potentially possessed toys, to strange dreams, we definitely have a love for the supernatural. Especially when horror or romance is involved.
Dead/Absent Parents I hate writing parents, so a lot of them have either passed or are absent by the beginning of our stories.
Ex-abusive partners We enjoy seeing those who have been abused get fresh starts and happy endings, so we incorporate that arc into our stories a lot.
Trauma All of our characters are not having a good time.
Tagging: @toribookworm22, @heavensfallenfaction, @hallwriteblr, @perasperaadastrawriting, @ryns-ramblings, @i-can-even-burn-salad, and anyone else who wants to participate!

Tropes - Tag Game
I was tagged by @surroundedbypearls and you can find her post here.
Rules: Bold the tropes you enjoy writing or that show up in your writing a lot.
Found Family | The Chosen One | The Martyr | Surprise, Bitch! You thought I was dead | Enemies/Rivals put together for a project | Teen gets kidnapped; parent goes on killing spree to find them | Happy Ever After | Black and White Morality | Fight scene turns into a make-out session | Only one bed | The airport/train/bus station love confession | AUs | Amnesia story | Villain and hero fall in love | Love triangles | Bookworm falls for the bad guy | Killing off the audience’s fave characters | Smalltown falls for Big-City | Princess kisses a frog & gets Prince Charming | Villain redeemed | Protagonist beats “best in the world” | Enemies to friends to lovers | It was all a dream! | Coming of age story
I actually don't have a large amount of tropes that show up in my writing (that I'm aware of!) but I do enjoy a lot of them.
I'll be tagging @thewardenofwinter, @charlesjosephwrites and @emustockings

Thanks for tagging me @squarebracket-trick!!

A lot of these tropes definitely come up in multiple of my WIPs - except I guess I don't know for sure if I've killed off audience's favourite characters yet, because I don't know who the faves are! It may or may not be true lol.

Tropes Tag Game
Tagged by @arijensineink --thank you!!
TBH I don't think about tropes a lot while I'm writing/planning, and it's only later when I read about tropes on writeblr that I realize which ones my stories lean on (if they do).
Tagging: @abalonetea @gummybugg
Rules: Bold the tropes you enjoy writing or those which are presented in your writing (a lot). Put in italics the tropes which you'd like to write one day or you're intrigued by them. --I've also underlined tropes that come up, but with a caveat or smth.
Thoughts below:
Found Family
This one just tends to come up a lot, possibly because I tend to write a lot of queer narratives,
The Martyr
I don't think I've gotten to this point in any of my stories, but I can see it coming up.
Surprise, Bitch! You thought I was dead
THIS ONE has come up (a couple times) in either the actual MS or the outline. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's a problem.
Happy Ever After
Y'know, I just like my stories to end happy, at least for some of the characters. It might not end well, or wrap up neatly for all of them, but generally the main character get at least some of a happy ending (after all the shit I put them through they deserve it, okay?)
Fight scene turns into a make-out session
This usually happens with friends/rivals sparring or in competition, and not so much with characters who are actual narrative enemies. At least not so far. It might come up if/when I get to "Enemies to Friends to Lovers."
Amnesia story
I've got a story planned with this, it's just not being written yet. I like the Unreliable Narrator aspect it brings in. Specifically I like Selective Amnesia, where things that the character remembers just... don't line up with the established timeline.
Love triangles
Yes, but. They're ALL in love. It's ACTUALLY a triangle, not a weird arrow shape situation.
Villain redeemed
Haven't done this yet. Not sure when or where it'll happen. It just sounds neat.
Enemies to friends to lovers
This one also just sounds neat, I don't have anything planned yet.

Thanks for the tag, @writing-for-life! I recently followed you AND I also write fanfics, so it was the right call and a fun game!
To be honest, I rarely think of tropes. It's always only after I start writing a fic that I realize, "oh! it's x trope!". When I pick a fic to read, I'll be more careful about avoiding tropes I really dislike, than about finding a trope I like... If that makes sense.
Anyway, enough babbling!
Rules: How much do these tropes affect your decision to click on a fic?
• -10 -> very dissuaded
• 0 - don't care either way
• 10 -> very enticed
• nope -> if it's a hard no and you'd never click on a fic with that tag or or you even have the tag blocked or you'd insta click out of the fic if it wasn't tagged
Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it's conditional.
Age Gap: 0
I can't say I'm turned on by a big age gap especially, but I don't mind if there's one and it serves the plot. If it's just an excuse to write Daddy kink smut, I'm not interested.
Codependency: -10
Not a hard no because context matters, but as in most cases codependency is depicted as very romantic as codependency is often confused with "real love", I generally avoid fics that involve this trope.
Enemies to lovers: -5
I think it's a trope that can be really great and thrilling to read and write, but for me to work it has to be rather: enemies to friends - friends to lovers. I really don't like it when the characters hated each other but suddenly fall in love for no reason whatsoever, or when the reason is crap such as "oh in fact they're soulmate!" (Reylo I'm looking at you). So, I'm rather on the fence about this one and I don't think I'll ever try my hands at it personnally.
Enemies With Benefits: nope
I don't even understand how it works tbh. Maybe because I'm demisexual but it's unconceivable in my head. You hate eact other but you fuck? how does that work?
Fake Dating/Relationship: -9
I tend to consider this trope as lazy writing, maybe because I never read a good fake dating relationship story?
Found Family: 8
This trope never fails to make my heart melt!
Friends to Lovers: 5
My first ship was the ultimate Friends to lovers ship aka Mulder and Scully from X Files, so... Even though I often end up finding the trope boring and predictable, I keep a soft spot for it.
Friends with Benefits: nope
Sorry, boring.
Hurt/Comfort: 10
I LIVE for this trope!
Love Triangle: nope
It's probably the trope I hate the most. I really don't like the concept of a competition for someone's heart, and it always ends up with someone being lonely or miserable or worse, dead. Hard no.
Mistaken/Hidden Identity: 10
I love writing these stories and reading them! I love trying to find out why the character hides their identity/are confused with someone else, who they are in reality, their motivations, their loved ones' reaction to the truth, the resolution... There's so potential for development it's really one of my favorite trope.
Monster Fu... Relationship: -9
Meh... I'm more interested in *human* monster fu... than in actual monster fu... I'm a Will/Hannibal shipper for example, but if say, Hannibal turned into a werewolf at night, that wouldn't work for me...
Obsession, Possessiveness, etc.: 0
I have to clarify: if it's framed as something possessive, it's a hard NO. But I don't mind a good thriller type of fic :)
Opposites (like grumpy x sunshine, etc): 5
If it doesn't rely too heavily on stereotypes (not a big fan of the grumpy x sunshine stuff for example), I'm in.
Poly: nope
'nuff said.
Pregnancy: -2
I tend towards the negative because too often pregnancy is used as a solution to every problem that the characters might have at the moment, like, erm, a blatantly abusive relationship for example, in which case I hate it. But I write it sometimes, and if done in a realistic way that doesn't undermine the female character's arc... I don't mind.
Second Chance: 8
I believe very much in the concept of second chance so yes, I'll probably read it.
Sex to Feelings: 1
It really depends on many things, like if it's a real story or just smut without plot with a sudden happy ending (in which case it's not my thing), and of the story of course! if the plot is the trope, it's not my thing.
Slowburn: 10
As I said Mulder and Scully were my first ship.... Seven years of slow burn, friends, SEVEN YEARS!
Soulmates: 7
I never believed in soulmates in real life, but for some reason I absolutely love to read it, and write it too! It has to be well developed for me to be really into it though.
Thanks again for this! it was very pleasant ^^ Tagging now @arawen898, @alrendriablaze, @endlessbittersweetdreams, @sylverfaeland, @thepaintedlady00 : if you have already done this game or are not interested, feel free to ignore of course!

Yes and no to a lot of these, love triangles I think are overrated. Bi-polyamory is in!
But! I’m also a historical fiction/monster writer mostly and I lowkey disdain some of these tropes.
For example: “villain redeemed” what are you you catholic? We are vampires and evil is a matter of perspective!
Tumblr media
As a role-player I do love me some AUs, also love angst and enemies to lovers and only one bed. I’m not sure if you could categorize “coming of age” but I deal with me having to adult through my writing, so, I suppose it counts.

Thank you for tagging me, @rey-jake-therapist! This is so fun, I'm so glad you did!
I had a real existential crisis when I discovered tropes and noticed I could not escape them when writing, so participating in this game now is very funny to me!
Rules: How much do these tropes affect your decision to click on a fic?
• -10 -> very dissuaded
• 0 - don't care either way
• 10 -> very enticed
• nope -> if it's a hard no and you'd never click on a fic with that tag or or you even have the tag blocked or you'd insta click out of the fic if it wasn't tagged
Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it's conditional.
Age Gap: -8
This one is something I find incredibly disgusting in real life and in most stories, too. If the age gap is huge and one of them is below the age of 25. But if the age gap exists because one is a human and the other is an entity or supernatural being, I'm totally in favour.
Codependency: 10
I know this is a polemic one, but I don't agree with how most people view codependency. In my opinion, as someone who believes in soulmates and romantic love being the greatest thing a living being could ever experience, codependency seems like a natural part of it to me. Dependency is very toxic when one-sided, but when it is mutual, it makes a lot of sense. To me at least! How could one survive without their soulmate? There is no life without them. That's exactly how I feel about mine.
Enemies to lovers: -9
I find this one irritating at best and borderline toxic at worst. There are some rare stories where it works (Dramione and Tomione, for example, love those), but I dislike it very strongly overall.
Enemies With Benefits: nope
I'm demisexual, so nope. It makes no sense to me. Sex is the greatest connection a human can have with another; it is magical. I don't understand how one could ever do it with someone they do not love, let alone hate. I can't even read this one. It's a real nope.
Fake Dating/Relationship: -5
I wouldn't read anything with this trope because I only read what I love, but I've watched a few silly movies with it. I didn't have to really use my brain; it was fine. It's a silly and unrealistic trope, but it's not bad or anything.
Found Family: 10
Love it. As someone who is strongly against the idea that blood equals family, this one makes me super happy!
Friends to Lovers: 5
This one depends. I really dislike the childhood friends who've never been interested in one another and suddenly fall in love. It makes no sense. Or when one of them has had a crush on the other since childhood and it's completely one-sided, but they end up together anyways because the writer is incompetent, especially if there was a better option for one of them or both. *cough* Barchie *cough*
But, if done right, this trope can be quite beautiful.
Friends with Benefits: nope
Again, sex is love. In my opinion. So nope.
Hurt/Comfort: 10
This is one of my favourites. All stories need at least a little bit of it to be good. I love it!
Love Triangle: nope
C'mon, I believe in soulmates. Loving two people at the same time makes no sense to me. And this one is horribly executed most of the time, too.
Mistaken/Hidden Identity: -5
This one paired with slowburn is the recipe for driving me insane. I'm so sorry for all the Ladybug fans. I could never. I'm too impatient.
Monster Fu... Relationship: 10
I don't know what the 'Fu' stands for, so I hope I'm understanding this correctly. But I love monsters. Especially as romantic interests. And even more so if they're incredibly powerful and ancient. Vampires, to be more exact. I love vampires. I don't know if entities and gods are included in this, though, but I love those even more than vampires. I don't like werewolves, zombies, or Frankenstein-like monsters, though.
Obsession, Possessiveness, etc: nope/10
I have two different ratings for this one because if obsession and possessiveness come with control and abuse, I hate it. It's disgusting and a nope. But if it's more of an "I love you so much I want to crawl beneath your skin", or a possessiveness that expresses itself in protectiveness and needing to keep the one you love safe, then I love it, and it is a 10.
Opposites (like grumpy x sunshine, etc): 2
This one can be really cliche, but it's cute. It doesn't annoy or bother me, but I'm not a fan of it either. It's whatever.
Poly: nope
Respect it. But it's a nope for me.
Pregnancy: nope/10
Another one with two, opposite ratings.
If it includes any type of misogyny, it's a nope. Like Bella almost dying in Twilight in order to give birth to Renaissance instead of getting rid of her. Like? If my life is at stake, I choose me. And so should all women. We should never sacrifice ourselves for our children or prioritise them above ourselves. That is a concept created by the patriarchy. It is misogyny. And it makes me really fucking mad. So if it involves any type of misogyny, I give it the most negative rating I could ever give to any trope. It's the one I hate the most.
But if the pregnancy comes as the fruit of an unconditional, epic love while the woman remains a free and independent character with a personality and a life outside of the child, then I do love it. Especially if both parents remain in love and prioritise each other first while being amazing parents to their children. It's a 10. All the precious and fragile things'verse (Morpheus x OC) is a perfect example of this.
Second Chance: 8
I love angst and tragedy with a happy ending, so a second chance is mandatory. But if cheating or betrayal of any kind is involved, it's a nope. One of the biggest nopes, in fact.
Sex to Feelings: 0
I can tolerate it if the romance builds beautifully afterwards, but I prefer feelings to sex.
Slowburn: 0
There are some I have loved. Percy and Annabeth were one of my first OTPs, but the slowburn almost made me lose my mind. I'm not patient enough for this one. I admire people who are, though. It can be beautiful, but to me, it is maddening.
Soulmates: 10
MY FAVOURITE ONE. I've been obsessed with the concept of soulmates my whole life. Need I say more?
This is the end. I don't have anyone to tag, so goodbye! This was fun!
