Today's update drawn by me, @jitterbugjive

This blog started December 20th in 2011, and so now it ends on December 20th in 2023. An exact 12 years. When I realized how close it was to the blog’s anniversary I decided to make sure the epilogue would post on the anniversary.

I will next be posting a spoiler warning post so anyone who hasn't caught up on the blog will be less likely to be spoiled. The post will also have my final author commentary attached to it which will share more details about the story and what other projects of mine you can follow. I'm hoping to hear feedback on my author post, so keep an eye out for it.

Addiction PSA:

If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, I highly recommend the SMART Recovery Program. Unlike AA, this program is not based on religious ideas or guilt and shame in regards to your addiction. Instead, it is based on therapy skills and group support, and teaches that things like relapse are not things to be ashamed of, but instead are things to learn from to have a better recovery. While AA will make you feel like you failed for having a relapse, SMART pulls you aside and asks "Alright, why did the relapse happen? What triggered it? What can we do in the future to prevent this from happening again?" and it teaches that every relapse is an opportunity to learn about yourself and what you need to recover. With SMART, you don't need to believe in a higher power, you learn to believe in yourself and your supports.

Why I think Russell Adler is going to make a comeback in COD 2024

WARNING⚠️: Contains spoilers for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Disclaimer: This is all just speculation on my behalf of course. I've just tried piecing stuff together for fun because Russ is one of my fave BO characters even though he's a bitch but i need more Adler content stat. <33

Let's get into it peeps. HEAR ME OUT.

Buckle up. Gonna be one hell of a ride folks 🤪

We'll start off with some random/background info.

Russ was born on February 12th 1937 so that would make him 53/54 in the Gulf War era. This actually isn't that old because if you think about it, Woods was about to turn 51 in 1981 during the Cold War campaign. What's a few more years?

We last saw Adler in action post-campaign in Warzone 1.0 cinematics but we've been kept in the dark about Adler's whereabouts post-1984 (after being brainwashed and killing Stitch LOL).

This meanie in a beanie wasn't forgotten about, oh no. He appears in the new cinematic intros on startup for both MWII (2022) and MWIII (2023). See below:

He was also featured twice in the 20 year anniversary video for Call of Duty whereas COD Ghosts didn't even get an appearance (ouch): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL_w5HmxsPI

I personally believe Adler was a great addition to the Black Ops roster and is essentially the new Black Ops 'cover boy' now. Would be such a shame and a missed opportunity not to include a character like him in the upcoming COD. One who is morally grey, does whatever he deems necessary to get the job done - a bit like Cpt. Price in MW. Got the COD fans riled up about him brainwashing and pulling the trigger on Bell too - he's already got the spotlight in both a good and bad way.

Now, let's explore my main reasoning as to why I think Mr Shades 2.0 is most likely coming back in late 2024...

🎖️First up: Gulf War mission list 🔫

I took the following snippet from this official article.

From this, we know there will be a huge focus on the CIA and who's a CIA clandestine special officer? Mhm, you guessed it - Russell Adler.

Now, according to the events of BO2, it's evident which characters have the possibility of returning out of our original BO trio - Jason Hudson, Frank Woods and Alex Mason.

💫 Alex is presumed dead after Frank shot him so he's out the picture in '90/91 until 2025 when they canonically meet again.

🪵 Woods would be in his 60s during this time too so I'll let you decide whether that's too old for him to be in GW.

Edit: Woods got SPAS-12'd in the kneecaps on Dec 20th 1989 by Raul Menendez so uh...yeah

🧊 Hudson died on Dec 20th 1989 at the hands of Raul Menendez.

➡️ Gulf War being a direct sequel to Cold War and what that could mean 💉

That brings me onto the rest of the safehouse crew. Since GW is a direct sequel to CW, it would make sense for some characters to carry over if possible:

We, as the player/Bell, get to choose whether Park or Lazar die (or both lovebirds) in 'End of the Line'. It's highly unlikely they'll return unless the devs make one decision canon maybe.

There could be a chance we see Sims again given his bond with Adler (Da Nang etc.), his age (late 40s in GW) and his status (alive).

That leaves the man himself, Russ. Everything from his age to the fact he's CIA and was the deuteragonist in COD 2020's campaign just makes sense for him to have at least a lil cameo or even a larger role, don't you think?

📱Finally: Hints from official posts 🔎

This post from Call of duty's official Instagram account kind of sealed the deal for me.

Oh lookie - they dropped syringe-lover's famous line in a zombies post. Why would COD just drop it so casually like that without a reason and years after CW came out? They could've said absolutely anything else but no, this was purposeful.

Do what you will with all this information but I have concluded in my silly little brain that scarface is coming back.

How he's only in one game is beyond me. Won't get a character like him ever again. Seems like a cliché war dude at first glance but dig a little deeper into the details of the CW campaign, peel back the layers and get into his psychology and WOWZERS.

Am I delusional? Most definitely.

But the possibility he might be returning...that little bit of hope is enough for me and i won't shut up about it.

This will age horribly if he isn't in GW. Forgive me for feeding your delusions too in that case. Please?

When do you think she’ll pull the trigger on the divorce? Or they’ll pull a David and Wallis, miserable ever after.

I don’t know anymore. I used to think as soon as she had Archie, she’d bail for LA, taking the designer clothes and leaving divorce papers (as she did to Trevor).

Then I thought Harry wouldn’t be able to cope with being in the US (he seems to be doing fine, I guess).

Then I thought they wouldn’t be able to deal with the COVID lockdowns together and they’d be a COVID casualty. But then they bought a 14-bedroom mansion for 3.5 people so…

Other things have happened over the years that made me think “this is it, this is the trigger,” but they’re still sticking together.

As most recently as last summer (Summer 2023) they had started to split their public personas and brands which felt like a trial run of divorce PR in a “can we do this separately” sort of way but obviously something happened that made Meghan cancel her separate PR and they launched a “happy couple” PR campaign at Düsseldorf IG.

So every time I think “this is it,” they get through it and it’s not really fun anymore guessing “this is it.”

I do think this Nigeria trip is do or die. ARO/Roop isn’t going well - social media likes and follower counts have stagnated. Meghan isn’t getting big offers anymore. She can’t find a CEO for ARO and the gossip that she’s stealing concepts from Flamingo and Goop is getting louder by day. Invictus Games is also having trouble, with financial revelations that Düsseldorf and The Hague games were enormously over-budget. Then the royals didn’t show up for the anniversary service (which I feel was only planned so Harry could try to force their hand and support/see him). Now the gossip is getting louder that Invictus wants out because Harry (and Meghan) isn’t delivering on being their patron.

So it’s do or die time. Harry needs to step up and show he can actually help and work for Invictus. Meghan needs the humanitarian branding to correct some of the public perception about her greediness and luxury-focused ego that ARO revealed. They both need the diplomatic branding to remain relevant and competitive with William and Kate and to get new money/endorsements/content for their projects.

If they don’t succeed on each of these fronts, then they’re going to be pretty miserable when they go back home. Miserable enough to divorce? I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not. They don’t really seem to live together and as long as they can keep that from becoming public knowledge (for now it’s just speculation and gossip), they’ll probably stick it out together. Meghan because she knows being married to Harry keeps her name in the press more than it would if she wasn’t. Harry because he doesn’t want to admit to everyone back home that they were right and he was wrong.

And of course, let’s not forget that Meghan always needs a safety net before she leaves a relationship. She won’t leave Harry until she has someone better and more wealthier already committed.

In the source link you will find #98 gifs of Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham in Doctor Who: 60th Anniversary Specials (2023) as requested by myself. She is currently 36 years of age and was around 34-35 at time of filming. All gifs were made by me. They are 268px by 151px.

Han/Leia Appreciation Week 2023

Han/Leia Appreciation Week is an event originally hosted at @han-leia-solo between 2016-2019. Last year, and with their permission, we decided to host it at @hanleiacelebration!

Since Beth Revis' "The Princess and the Scoundrel" was released on August 16th, 2022, we thought it'd be fun to mark the date as the anniversary of Han and Leia's wedding 🥰 And since this year is also the 40th anniversary of "Return of the Jedi", you'll see prompts related to both of those things!

💗 How does the Han/Leia Appreciation Week work?

The event will run from August 13th to August 19th, and there will be two different prompts each day that creators can fulfill with: fanfic, fanart, gifsets, graphics, fanvids, headcanons, crafts, playlists, rec lists. You’re encouraged to tag your posts with #hanleiaweek2023 so we can reblog them! After the week is over, we'll also share a masterlist with links to the works.

You can show your appreciation in many ways; however, please keep in mind that it has to be a creation of yours of some sort, e.g. don’t repost other people’s fanart, gifs, or unedited pictures. Rec lists should include a link to the original source both for fanfic and fanart (more on this after the cut).

💗 Can I post my work to another site and share the link on Tumblr?

Yes! This is a good option for people who might want to create explicit art that could be taken down on Tumblr, write a long fic or multichapter, or make videos or playlists.

💗 Does it have to be a new creation? Can I finish and post a WIP?

It has to be something that has never been posted anywhere else before, so finishing and sharing a WIP is okay! If it doesn’t fit any of the prompts, you can share it on Free Day.

💗 Is this event open to all ratings?

Yes! Just remember to use a “Read more” cut if you’re posting the whole work on Tumblr, and to add a note at the top if your work is rated Mature or Explicit, as well as if it has any major trigger warnings, so all folks can safely browse through the entries.

💗 Are there any length or quality requirements?

There’s no min. or max. length for fanfic or quality level for art, but please note that AI-generated works won't be accepted. For gifsets, there’s a minimum of two gifs (that must be made by you!). For playlists, there’s a minimum of five songs. For rec lists of fic or fanart, there’s also a minimum of five recs. Some more questions you might have about rec lists:

- How do I share someone else's art without posting a picture? You might post a thumbnail that crops a preview of the piece; if the piece has a title, you might use that; you might describe it; or you might say something like “this piece by [artist]”, and link to the source.

- What if I found a fanart on Google? Try to find the original source using reverse search image.

- What if I can’t still find it, can I just say “credit to the artist”? In that case, please just don’t share the piece.

- What if I know the artist but don’t have a link to the original source? Naming the artist and linking back to where you found it is okay, in that case.

💗 Is the event based on "The Princess and the Scoundrel"?

Not really! That's just an excuse to celebrate Han/Leia 😊 You don’t need to include or acknowledge it in any way in your creations, although you’re welcome to.

💗 Can I write for canon/Legends and include other pairings?

All canons, time periods, headcanons and AUs are welcome, and you're allowed to include side pairings, except for R*eylo. However, keep in mind that this is a Han/Leia appreciation week - at the risk of sounding repetitive, works should focus on appreciating Han and Leia's relationship!

💗 What's the time zone for the event?

Please don't worry too much about time zones: when we say "day", we always mean "whenever that day is for you in your part of the world". IE: if it's Monday for you, you can post your work for the Monday prompt.

Daily Dragon #70 - Dragon Mario

Happy #MAR10Day!! I won't do it right now cause I'm a little busy atm but I'd like to draw Luigi, Peach, and Toad with the power too! Like I said before, this is an older concept from 2019 like I said! Here's how it used to look, I think I've cleaned it up a lot!

Also I found an attempt to redesign this concept from 2023! Neat! I still think this newest version is best though

5/50 days of productivity

Today was an emotional rollacoaster. I think I realized something about myself that I don't like. After things died out with my ex best friend (it's almost the anniversary of when the shitty situation that was dragged out for months started so I also have that in mind) I found myself with close to none social life. I am introverted I can deal with spending most of my time alone, but losing the one person who I relied on closer to me triggered a moltitude of thinga in me I am still working on. And today I realized that lately for me social situations have become a self imposed duty. I force myself to go to uni, when someone asks to hang out I feel obligated to go. I am not sure whether I am trying to fill a void, or more likely I have a very specific anxiety at the back of my mind reminding me that I am someone in my early twenties only on my id because my life doesn't really feel like it. I have always been very confident in my close friend circle and myself as an introvert, but now it's crumbling a bit. Ever since after covid and lockdown happened my social anxiety has sky rocketed and I am too self aware not to know that without the help of external forces it's almost impossible to me to create new connections. Moreover I am petrified at the idea of making the first move and opening up. In these months I have often said that I feel like I am in a cocoon, in a transitional phase of my lifr in which nothing feels defined or secure. I feel confused and indecisive, and now my emotions seem to be crumbling too. This is not the most positive journal entry to end the week on, but I needed to let out some things and to reflect. I should really get back into journaling daily but my energies are so limited lately that it almost feels impossible, aside from these daily posts.

wrote down base notes for all articles to stucture the presentation

started planning how this presentation will be

did a bit of planning for next week

practiced Irish on duolingo

OK so I've been thinking, if RTD absolutely didn't want to go down the root of having a multi-Doctor/multi-companion extravaganza for the 60th, and wanted to go down a more subtle route using old villains and obscure comics to celebrate the show's history, imagine if instead of making the only real "anniversary" elements of the story be his Doctor and his companion, RTD had done the unthinkable, and asked Jodie and Mandip to stay on.

Obviously, there are multiple reasons why that didn't happen. Ultimately Thirteen and Yaz are Chris Chibnall's characters, and RTD may not have wanted to add to Chibnall's story. I'm also aware that Jodie and Mandip thought Chibnall's departure was the right time for them to go, so this ultimately wasn't down to RTD. But I do think (with Chibnall's blessing) he could've convinced them to come back with a good story.

I'm also aware that Jodie had a baby after filming POTD, and needed time away. However, since returning to acting, she has filmed other shows, including Time, which aired before the 60th specials. So there's no reason filming couldn't have been delayed to accommodate Jodie while still having the episodes ready for November/December 2023.

Imagine the end of Power of the Doctor, the Thirteenth Doctor has her farewell with Yaz, goes to the clifftop and starts regenerating... only to end up with the same face by the end of it? Might not have the same impact on the general public as the Tennant return, but certainly enough to keep fans speculating for a year.

Then at the start of The Star Beast, the TARDIS brings her straight to 2023, where she just happens to bump into Yaz as soon as she steps out, who is still hurting after a year without the Doctor, and shocked she doesn't have a different face.

And imagine hearing Akinola's themes for Thirteen and Yaz in Murray Gold's style when they are reunited!

While I do think Donna's exit was more heartbreaking than Yaz's, I'd argue she got closure of a sort, marrying someone who genuinely loves her for who she is, and getting a winning lottery ticket. It certainly didn't need a fanfiction fix-it of being sorted by "just letting go" ("something a male-presenting Time Lord wouldn't understand" way to shit on your own progressivism Russell)

While the ending Chibnall gave Yaz was an appropriate and bittersweet one for her character, it was written in a way that permitted closure or another writer picking up the character in the future.

I criticise RTD frequently on here, but one thing he absolutely excels at is realistic family drama (the scene where Sylvia isn't sure she's saying the right thing to Rose was probably the best writing in those specials), and integrating that family drama with the magic and silliness of Doctor Who. Not saying Chibnall was bad at this, but it was never really the story he wanted to tell. RTD could've done some great stuff with the Khan family in the 60th specials, with her parents and Sonya supporting her in adjusting to life without the Doctor, and probably delivering some uncomfortable truths to Thirteen(.5) about all the time she froze Yaz out or pushed her away.

I'm not sure how the specials could've played out, but imagine if instead of Fourteen regenerating into Ten's face because he "needed to come home" to Donna (and not every other found family the Doctor had ever had?), we linked it back to Power of the Doctor, and revealed that Thirteen wanting more time (with Yaz), and Yaz not wanting her time with the Doctor to end triggered the Toymaker's interference. Her made her regenerate into the same face, and brought her straight back to Yaz, and to defeat him they have to let the change complete itself.

If they're going hard on marketing Ncuti's era as "Series 1" as if it's a brand new show, then I think having Thirteen and Yaz (the final Doctor and companion of the 2005-2023 Who) both accept that it's time to move on would be the perfect coda for the "NuWho" as a whole. No "bigeneration" fanfiction fuckery, but maybe Thirteen offering Yaz to stay with her for the change this time, and Yaz this time being the one to say no, not because the Doctor is regenerating, but because she's accepted that time with the Doctor has to end sometime.

And then in the closing seconds, we get to see Ncuti's Doctor, taking up the baton (and clothes) from Jodie Whittaker, just as it should be, his Doctor on his own terms, not a side character in the last guy's story.

As I said, I understand why this didn't happen, but honestly, this would've been so much better than what we got.
