see I don’t know exactly where this came from in my head but Haseul and trans masc vivi who have some long stupid rivalry and both are too stubborn to admit they wanna fuck

Vivi being that kind of pretty boy who thinks others aren't good enough to entertain him, and Haseul who just wants to get things done.

They get partnered for a project, it's due in a months time and they spend the first week arguing over the numbers.

They actually got into each other's faces, claiming the other doesn't know what the fuck they're doing and this project was a mistake.

Haseul storms out pissed as hell, and Vivi just keeps pacing, claiming he can do this all on his own. He's known for not being much of a team player but he always brought his A game.

Even with how mad Haseul gets, she's never actually been so mean to anyone ever. Sure she gets the occasional road rage when commutting to work, but who didn't?

She overhears some gossip, focusing a little harder when she hears Vivi's name. They're badmouthing him, claiming that if it wasn't for the fact that he's a diversity hire, he would have been fired already.

The gossip is deep rooted in jealousy. Vivi holds his work to a standard, one that gets praise every time. Haseul clenched and unclenched her fist. Sure he was a handful, a bit of an ego. But he was still better than the idiots laughing at the water hole.

Haseul returns like nothing happens and is willing to sit through Vivi correcting her math for the second time today. Instead of getting mad she simply thanks him while typing away.

Progress is made and Vivi is skeptical. But otherwise gets back to work. They end each other notes on the shared document, not really wanting to break the silence between them. Awkward or not.

"You're being weird." Vivi bluntly says, he hasn't looked up from his screen but he knew Haseul was looking at him.

Haseul shrugged. Was she being weird or just trying to get her work done? "Just doing my job."

Vivi's eyes narrowed, as it he knows that Haseul is hiding something. He just didn't know what and it was irking him.

It happens again, Haseul stumbling into gossip. But this time she's witnessed and even called over. She tries to mask her emotions and fake a smile, but she can feel her lips twitch.

"How's it in there? As much as a handful I bet." The small group laugh like it was the funniest joke ever told.

"Nope, we're doing very well. Will probably finish before next Tuesday."

"Ah, poor thing has you working so hard in there."

The way that her coworkers were describing Vivi wasn't sitting well with her. "I know he doesn't have the nicest personality, but he works hard. I don't understand why you refuse to acknowledge him" She out extra emphasis on Vivi's preferred pronouns, and watched at two of the group shuffled from foot to foot, and the third simply narrowed his eyes.

"Don't tell me you buy into this pronouns. Your generation is ruining what we've been thriving on." Haseul wasn't in the mood to listen to this nonsense.

"One more word and I'm taking this to HR. I already plan to but I will name you the main problem.* Haseul meant well on her threats too. This is supposed to be a zero tolerance work facility, and I'd HR catches wind of bigotry mixed with transphobia. They're not even going to recommend training, and will simply let you go.

Blockberry doesn't play with when it comes to discrimination.

Word seem to spread fast that a certain trio was caught being messy and their leader was let go. The others are given a slap on the wrist and written up. But besides that they were hardly acknowledge on the team. No one wanted to work with them anymore.

Vivi caught wind and was confused as to how all this drama around him happened, but didn't care to look into it. All the while Haseul couldn't help but feel like she helped in some way or another.

She was greeted with the sight of a banana nut muffin in her desk, right next to a thermos filled with coffee. There was a note, one from Vivi.

Thanks for sticking up for me even though I'm an asshole. I'm only like this because I've had to work harder than usual cis men.

Haseul understood that, she definitely has had her fair share of being spoken over or someone repeating what she said and getting pats on the back for her ideas.

Male dominated spaces sucked, and yet, Haseul didn't dislike Vivi the more time she spent around him. Yes he was a workaholic, but so was she. He dressed nice, and smelled good.

Even had a habit of licking his lips when focusing on something. Not that Haseul has taken notice to that. No that would be odd.

Right?

"We finished."

Vivi didn't know why saying those words felt strange. It was expected of them to finish this project and forward it to management to be reviewing. Once it was approved they would simply have to present their ideas a week from now.

Usually it wasn't in either of them to get projects rejected but who knows.

But with the hard part out of the way there really was no reason for them to interact nearly as much.

"We should celebrate. Maybe we can get the company card for lunch." Haseul suggested, a wide grin on her face knowing full and well that Blockberry did motivate them to work hard with assigning company cards for each department.

And there was a killer kbbq place around the corner too. Assuming Vivi wanted to be seen in public with her. She wouldn't be surprised if he said no, but-

"Okay, yeah we can do that. Maybe a beer too." He stood up, stretching before offering his hand out to help Haseul up. She never realized how dainty his fingers were. But there was hidden strength in the tug.

Haseul nearly fell over. "Holy shit are you hiding muscle under those jacket?"

Vivi's lip quirked but he didn't answer right away. "Wouldn't you like to know."

Haseul opened her mouth to reply, but she didn't have one. Did she want to know? Was Vivi flirting with her? Instead she simply walked past him to open the door. "Guess I'll find out over that beer, hmm? Let's go."

hey skyen, you mentioned about kuina that she seemed transmasc to you and in my experience i think more people see zoro as a transmasc person, the reason being is his want/need to break gender stereotypes rather than enforce them. through kuina, his story to become the greatest swordman is inherently about breaking gender roles. and personally i think a lot of transmascs see this as their relationship to cis women. (especially in how kuina pushes zoro into the "weak" category with him and parrots sexism without knowing how it affects him) i also think his story is WAY more satisfying from a gender perspective if you see him as transmasc, regardless of if its intended or not. (the truth is that theyre BOTH transmasc, actually, why not?) (idk if you read fanfiction, probably not, but the fanfiction Burning Man on ao3 really goes in depth with transmasc zoro. its also the best fanfiction ive personally read for op)

Yeah, I can absolutely see that.

On related lines, I've also seen an interpretation of the story that Kuina and Zoro are the same person, and that Zoro's flashback depicts a metaphorical series of events rather than literal, where he battles with his assigned identity over and over as a child and can never "beat" her, never overcome or break out from under her.

But when he realizes that his assigned identity is miserable and in pain, and that all that even she wants is to be a boy, he has to go through the trauma of seeing her die, and go out into the world as truly himself. Through that lens his quest to become the greatest swordsman in the world is, in part, a quest to spite every motherfucker on Earth who told his past self that he would never be able to transcend his assigned gender.

So long as you assume that Kuina's father is playing along with it to the point of setting up a grave for his dead daughter who never was, it does explain why he would let Zoro take away the Wado Ichimonji, an incredibly important and valuable family heirloom, and treat Zoro so much like a direct son.

The Three Sword Style already represents Zoro carrying Kuina's spirit and memory with him always - his two-sword style in the hands, her one sword style in his mouth - and in this reading the style would be carrying the memory and pain of his childhood with him, and letting it empower him to become greater than anyone without his experiences could ever be.

It's one of the nice things about One Piece, I think, that it is open to these kinds of interpretations. Luffy being aro/ace is basically canon, which I appreciate a lot, and nobody can tell me Nami and Vivi didn't have a mutual crush going during Alabasta, and there is no understanding of Ace I will accept where he wasn't the most bi/pan wandering disaster the Grand Line had ever seen since Roger.

I do hope the actual explicit text of the manga will catch up to that someday... I was really happy to finally see some actual transmasc rep with Yamato, and a bit more playfulness with gender in general in characters like Izou and Kikunojo in the Wano Country arc, and honestly canonically transmasc Zoro or Crocodile would be enriching to both of those characters, I think.

I had a small question for you: I've noticed your body types and details when it comes to characters feel very human. Little traits in body refs come together very well in your designs. Because of how well you can convey these things, I was wondering if there are any OP characters that are more difficult for you to draw? Be it design wise or translating the OP style to your own? Hope this isn't an odd thing to ask haha

Not odd at all, this is a really interesting ask! I always love an opportunity to talk about why I draw things the way I do haha... Also I'm so flattered you feel that way, body variations are something I find really interesting and gratifying to draw so I'm glad people pick up on them and like them too!

HMMmmm... Honestly I find it harder to translate faces to my style than bodies HAHA. There are sooo many interesting body silhouettes in One Piece that I find it more of a fun puzzle trying to translate them! Montblanc Cricket is definitely a challenge for example because his body shape is sooo extreme (dat neck. You know Zoro's jealous) but that's part of why I like his design/drawing him.

I mean okay the hardest Straw Hat for me to draw is Brook LMAO but I feel like that's cheating because you have to be so precise with all those bones. Body-wise... maybe Nami? It took me a long time to decide on what kind of body type vibes she was giving me before I decided she was kind of beanstalk-y but with big boob implants. I try and draw her boobs to look fake on purpose contrasted with, say, Robin or Tashigi, and I hope it comes across. I just think it's in-character that if her boobs got notably bigger after the time skip, well, it's because she wanted big old honkers lmao!

Zoro is also difficult sometimes because I imagine his body changes appearance a lot, not just because he gains muscle steadily over the series, but even on a shorter scale he probably fluctuates between bulking and cutting. I find it enjoyable to draw him at various stages but it does mean he looks inconsistent in my art sometimes and occasionally I worry that people won't understand my intent. Sanji can also be difficult to get the right proportions for because his muscle composition is so unbalanced, like some kind of hyper-cyclist, but I don't want to make him look absurd out of context either.

I'm not a furry artist by nature (despite Everything) so the hardest body types for me to translate are definitely animalistic characters, whether they're Zoan types or Minks! Chopper and Pedro are still hard for me to draw, for example, even if Minks mostly just have humanoid body shapes covered in hair. I have a hard time clicking with them. Interestingly fishmen/mermaids are not as difficult - I think because they're more fantastical, you can be less 'accurate'?

I'm trying to think of non-Straw Hat characters... Honestly I have a much harder time drawing faces than bodies. I'm working on it. I think my headcanon for Law's body type is at odds with a lot of other fans' LOL (same as me seeing Sanji without a shred of ass), I just can't see him as being muscular at all - he strikes me as the type who barely eats enough and doesn't really work out so he's all gaunt and gangly. Kid is WIIIDDEE which is fun to draw but sometimes hard to get the proportions of. One Piece women tend to be harder to translate to my style than men because their canon body types are so much less diverse :/ but I do enjoy it too. Vivi was hard for me to settle on but I like the body type headcanon I have for her now - I just haven't had time to draw it LMAO. Oh, and Yamato can be hard, but for kind of different reasons. His body is so politicised I know I'm going to get weird comments no matter how I draw him. Giving him top surgery makes me personally feel more comfortable in some ways (visibly denouncing transphobes etc) but less comfortable in others (implying that top surgery is necessary to be transmasc etc). But that's a different kind of difficulty. I still enjoy drawing him.

Inorganic shapes are much harder for me to draw so I would say the hardest OP characters for me are characters like Franky or Brook who have bone/cyborg parts! I love Franky's post-timeskip silhouette (sir your A-frame) but I always struggle with his shoulders and forearms because they're not organic shapes so inconsistencies/scale inaccuracies are way more obvious. Sometimes Fishmen designs fit into this category a bit too.

I hope there was something useful or interesting in that answer somewhere! For me personally I would say - based on bodies only - the Straw Hats scale from easiest -> hardest to draw is: Usopp -> Luffy -> Zoro -> Sanji -> Robin -> Nami -> Jinbe -> Franky -> Chopper -> Brook. Usopp is hands-down easiest for me because I take a lot of inspo for him from my boyfriend so it comes surprisingly naturally. (Love u baby)

so about that modern au i wrote about ages ago 😳 I've decided to localize it in madrid!!

luffy is from a tiny seaside valencian town. his dad was involved in the early 2000s housing market economic bubble, making benidorm a hellscape and all that. his other dad is a països catalans independentist. his biggest influence as a kid was shanks, a football legend from valencia c.f. that spent his summers in luffy's town. he now lives in madrid with his brothers in what they thought was a squat (garp was paying the rent behind their backs). doesn't really have a real relationship with his dads, but he's very fond of his dad's girlfriend ivankov, who runs his fave drag club. any pronouns transfag who doesn't bind. speaks fluent valencià

The way transmasc Vivi is more of a flirt too, letting his guard down around Haseul. They have an hour to kill anyway and because it's so warm at the BBQ place be finally shucks off his jacket and his tailormade shirt is only hugging his body.

Haseul gets caught looking a few times over lunch. The way Vivi would lean forward to flip the meat that was cooking. Or the way he mixed his sauce only seemed to make the fabric of her shirt tense a little.
