I have to ramble about that adorable June and Nichole scene at the end of 5.01. I’m such a sucker for June and her daughters. This scene was no exception.

What gets me is, throughout the episode June was afraid that she would taint her daughter. She wants to be around her but doesn’t think she should after what she did. It’s so heartbreaking. She’s being such a good mom for wanting to protect her daughter, even from herself. At a time when she’s really reeling from a life changing event. Which is what killing Fred was. She’s killed before yeah, but not on this personal level. Yet, June’s trauma hasn’t gone away. It didn’t magically fix everything.

Nichole doesn’t care what June did, nor does she understand of course. June’s just mommy to her. She’s who she looks to for comfort and feels comforted by. I about lost it when Nichole cuddled June. That was just super cute. 

June may be capable of killing with her bare hands. She’s equally as capable of gently holding this tiny human who trusts her completely. She needed this moment with her baby, she really did. When she was comforting Nichole, you get the sense she was also comforting herself. Being with her daughter allowed June to be present in that moment and the weight of everything else to melt away if only for a bit. It has the larger implication that June is considering going all in as Emily did. She also doesn’t want to leave her baby girl. It’s kinda an interesting switch yet continuation from previous seasons.
