Din Djarin and Luke Skywalker are both two men who get progressively scarier the more you watch them.
Like, Luke in A New Hope was baby af. He was a child. Even in the Empire Strikes Back, what a little guy. A tiny fellow.
Then boom, Return of the Jedi, and Luke is smiling and like “Tell these Ewoks that you are their God and that if they do not release us, you will be Angered…” He is in all black, he is missing a hand, he has gone off the rails conpletely. He’s like “How will I tell Leia that we’re siblings? …Oh! I know! Riddles!” Luke Skywalker gets struck by Force Lightning like nine times and still gets up and drags his dad’s lifeless body out. There were moments one might look at him and think, “no, ur wrong, he still babie” but you are the wrong one! He goes into Jabba’s Palace and straight up stands there smiling and threatening him the whole time. He’s standing on a plank over the Sarlacc and he’s still like “So this is how you’d like to play :)” Luke straight up snapped, he got spooky by the end of the og trilogy.
Din Djarin, straight off the back, is kind of intimidating. He is a man in full armour who hunts people and freezes them in carbonite and appears behind their shoulders when they least expect it. But, after Grogu shows up, you probably think “this man is weak to this baby, he will become soft” but no! The opposite happens!
I’m talking about episode 6. The Prisoner. I have wanted desperately to talk about this for days, but have only just found the words to do so. Let me explain.
Din Djarin is filmed and edited like a horror movie villain. Like a supernatural force of evil who stalks his prey. Straight up like a slasher villain out of the eighties. There’s hints of this beforehand, what with Din appearing behind a guy in the very first episode, and the fact that he has been shot point blank (many times) but no matter how many times he falls, he always gets back up. Okay, that’s all fine and good.
But episode 6 goes beyond that. He stalks a bunch if assholes through flickering red lights. He splits them up, he takes them out one by one, and the last person standing manages to get out, thinks they’ve escaped, only to die (technically) at Din’s hand anyway. He is straight up a horror movie villain I don’t know how else to explain it, he is a horror movie villain.
Don’t take this the wrong way. Being spooky and intimidating isn’t a bad thing, especially not in Star Wars! Luke Skywalker and his ability to say terrible things while smiling, Din Djarin and his predilection for appearing right behind someone, these ar egood things. I like these things a lot. I love these. I love that Luke is the cutest little scary fella in the galaxy. I love that Din is the most awkward little scary fella in the galaxy. I think it’s great.
Why do I bring this up?
Well, for one, I have been trying to word my view on Din Djarin for days now. I love this man, I have to mock him or I’ll feel incomplete. And I think it’s a disservice to pretend that Luke isn’t a person who most people in the Star Wars universe think about and shiver. Don’t get me wrong, I love sunshine boy Luke, but he isn’t really like that, at least not by this point in the series. He just strikes me as the type of person to say incredibly dark, deranged things with a blank face, then smile at cute kittens. Luke is messed up, and we should talk about it more because it’s very interesting to explore the various ways he’s messed up.
But for another, I am a big fan of Din and Luke being buddies who go absolutely anywhere and scare the shit out of people. A Mandalorian next to a Jedi Knight? Two people who eat Storm Troopers for breakfast?? Can you imagine how much the fragments of the Empire that are still left are quaking??? Those two would go absolutelu anywhere and the anyone on planet who ever sided with the Empire would give themselves up or run, immediately.
Like, Din singlehandedly took out that whole troop on Nevarro. All by himself, he shot out all of the Storm Troopers and everyone inside and I like to think there are whispered stories about him similar to the ones about the Boogeyman.
Now, I know Luke didn’t actually kill the Emperor and Darth Vader, but does anyone in universe know that? Or does everyone think that Luke not only blew up the Death Star, but he also murdered the two head honchos and came out completely unscathed? Luke is definitely a boogeyman.
I don’t know. Something about two terrifying men walking into a bar full of Imperials only to walk out five minutes later of a bar full of dead Imperials just really fills me with joy. Something about the mental image I have of Storm Troopers fearfully sharing increasingly terrifying stories about these two makes me happy. I like bad people being scared shitless, all right? Sue me.

okay so someone reblogged my post (about how din and luke are so desperately touch starved and how they find comfort within one another and slowly banish the loneliness away with one another’s touch) and made a comment about how they don’t see luke as touch starved because he was never really isolated from his family and gives and receives touch very easily and like no hate cause i love that idea as well, in fact i absolutely agree- luke grew up in a very loving family that showed him that affection openly- a hug from beru before she’d go to bed, a fond ruffle of the hair from owen after he’d scraped his knee- touch and connection clearly mean a lot to him. we can see it in anh and esb how freely and easily he uses touch with those around him- the group hug with han and leia after the victory of the trench run, putting a friendly hand on chewies shoulder and letting himself get pulled into an embrace, his arm around leia as they stare out the viewport. luke is a tactile person. no doubt. but that’s also how we know he’s changed when we get to rotj and he’s noticeably less so. that’s how we can see how reserved he’s become, taking on a mantle of stoicism he’s not fully comfortable with yet, but wears anyways. war and loss has changed him. he’s still kind, still luke, just less free with his touch and joy- and with that i can’t help but go back to my thoughts on my first post about him being touch starved, because is it not even more understandable and heartbreaking that he is so? luke, a person who clearly craves and reaches out for touch, suddenly devoid of it? it makes his loneliness so much for profound, him suddenly distanced from his sister and friends after the war, all of them going their own ways, living their own lives. there is no aunt and uncle to go home to. no father or master, just his texts. the force. and how, for so long after that, that is just how he lives, a random touch on the arm or hug from leia every now and then, but the comfort and ease of touch he’d once had as a young man is gone. and how, once he meets din, he finally gets to have that part of himself back. the part that can indulge and reach for that comfort and need to have someone close. heal his touch starved soul in such a beautiful way and remind him that after all of it, all the war and fighting and isolation that he did not choose but found himself in, luke deserves the touch he so craves.

Dinluke AU excerpt: They meet on Tatooine and reunite years later.
I will know you forever. That's the way Mandalorians say I love you. Din had learned the phrase somewhere between learning how to ask about the weather and how to curse out your enemy, but the gravity of the phrase never really hit him, so painfully cliche. It wasn’t until that time so long ago, when he had been teaching Luke small morsels of Mando’a that the words began to carry weight. Luke had turned to smile at him, preoccupied with tracing mindless patterns on Din’s palm, and commented, “it’s kind of an odd way to say ‘I love you’, but it makes so much sense, doesn’t it?”
It does.
Din knows Luke. Din recognises him in the warmth of the twin suns, in the taste of blue milk custard on one’s tongue, in every handful of earth Luke has ever touched. And he knows that when he dies, the very air that once flowed through his lungs will know his love for this stupid, magnificent man and linger far longer than he could ever comprehend. As long as the universe knows itself, Din will know Luke – long after they turn old and grey with tired bones, and long after their bodies have decayed to ash and stardust.
And perhaps Luke is a little different now; less boisterous, sipping tea instead of chugging caf, but he still drums his fingers on ceramic mugs the same way he always had as a farm boy on Tatooine, so does it really matter? In all the ways Luke has changed, there are as many parts of him that are far too familiar as well, and Din has no willingness to be a hypocrite because he is certain that he too has changed over the years since they last met.
But isn’t that what love is? To look at somebody who has evolved, who carries so little remnants of the person you knew them to be; like fading ink on yellowing paper, and to say, yes. I know you. And I will always know you. Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum. I will know you forever.

Okay so has anyone done like a DinLuke Anastasia AU? Because honestly I was listening to the Anastasia Broadway soundtrack (again) instead of my usual DinLuke playlist and like all I can think is this au.
Like Padmé and Anakin are King and Queen of Naboo, with the royal twins Luke and Leia. Don’s parents are servants who moved to Naboo from Aq Ventina and got jobs in the palace. Din is like only a few years older than Luke in this as opposed to their cannon age gap. Because of this they often hang out (I doubt Padmé or Anakin would have issue with him being friends with the hired helps kid just given who they are) Luke is Din’s best friend, but Luke’s beat friend is forever and always his twin sister Leia, though Din is a close second. Both have a crush on each other, but neither voice it.
Then when Luke is eleven and Din is like fourteen, not quite a full on revolution but enough people are unhappy with things that a group of them Storm the palace and kill Anakin and Padmé. Leia escapes with Bail Organa and is adopted by him, but Luke isn’t as lucky. Din helps him into the servants quarters, but Luke drops the music box his mom had made when he and Leia were babies. Din goes back for it, but witnesses his parents being executed for refusing to give up the twins location causing him to black out and stay separated from Luke. Luke meanwhile escapes, but falls down a hill and hits his head losing his memories. The next day a kind old lady finds him and offers to help him find somewhere to stay.
“What’s your name child?”
“I think it’s Lu…. Lu… Luka?”
“Very well Luka, let’s find you somewhere warm for the night”
Fast forward ten years, things have gotten worse, Luke is struggling to find and keep a job, Din WAS a Mandalorian, but they aren’t very welcome around Naboo anymore after one of them was involved with the murder of the King and Queen and disappearance of the Prince. He has Grogu still, but he’s a human in this au because I say so. He’s mute and likely the Star Wars equivalent of a nonverbal autistic. Grogu doesn’t like the helmet much either, he doesn’t like not seeing his dad’s face, so the helmet (and the rest of the armor) goes.
Greef and Cara come up with the plan to fool Leia, who is offering a reward for anyone who can return her brother to her. (She knows he’s alive because she can sense him in the force) Din wants no part in it, but is struggling with money and affording to care for Grogu and the amount of money offered, even split between them, would be life changing. So he, reluctantly, goes along.
The group eventually meet Luke, hoping to get off world and find his family, and agree he looks just like the missing prince (no duh). Greef and Cara are elated that Luke has no memories and just wants to find his family meaning no extra split in the reward. Din on the other hand feels bad for taking advantage of someone who looks just like his best friend. Luke for his part, recognizes Din, but can’t figure out how he knows him, or how he knows his name.
The group begins making plans to leave Naboo. Din is left with Luke and Grogu. Luke asks Din if they could have met when they were kids because he feels like he’s met him before. Din confesses he was very close to the prince before he went missing and how he was his best friend. Luke asks if he believes he’s really the prince and Din admits he doesn’t know. He doesn’t want to believe his best friend would have forgotten him. Luke reminds him that he can’t remember anyone or anything from before he was eleven. (Cue in my dreams sequence) Luke accidentally floats some things making Din believe he might just be the prince. (Force users are rare and even rarer would be someone who looks so similar to Luke with force sensitivity)
After months of traveling via shuttles (no one has a ship) Din, feeling guilty eventually confesses everything to Luke, who he’s started falling in love with. Luke confronts Greef and Cara about using him to get a reward and trying to con someone who is just looking for her brother. Luke agrees to continue with them, but only to see if Leia is his sister and as he doesn’t trust Greef or Cara anymore he doesn’t want to see them afterwards. Din promises to help Luke find his family if Leia isn’t his sister and the two end up spending the night together.
Meanwhile Bail convinces Leia to give up the search, at least temporarily for her sake.
Stuff happens, Luke and Leia reunite, Luke gets his memory back, Din realizes Luka and Luke are the same person when talking with Luke results in him remembering the time Luke convinced his parents to let Din ride in the parade with them. Someone tries to kill Luke and Leia, Din stops them. Din and Luke get together, Luke adopts Grogu and the three decide to live a quiet life though Luke remains close to Leia.
I might have to write this actually.

What neither of them know is that someone else is also on the planet searching for the temple.
And then the storm rolls in.

A Little Farther Down the Line by Chromat1cs
Austin, Texas, 1973. Din Djarin plays the guitar, worries about his kid, and runs aimlessly from a past that pulled the roof down around his ears. When a stunningly-talented duo of up-and-coming performers turns Din’s plans of being a simple session musician clear on their head, Din must decide between the safety of mundanity or the unlooked-at thrill of following his heart lest the tape run out on this track of his life before he’s through recording it.

We Two Scorched the Earth by annathaema (moony)
That left Luke with a much bigger problem: The Sand People knew he was here, they’d likely sabotaged or stolen the speeder by now, and he was stranded in a cave with nothing but a rifle with three rounds left, a survival pack good for only a couple of days, and no transport home. Great. Luke leaned against the wall of the cave and tipped his head back, thumping the back of it against the stone over and over. He closed his eyes and wished for rescue.

Hello sorry to bother you but I noticed your Dinluke Tangled fic has been deleted on AO3 and was wondering if you were aware of this or if it was accidental? I really loved that fic (and I know heaps of others do too) and I’m saddened to see it go but I will respect your decision if you did remove it intentionally. I just wish I could’ve saved/downloaded it sooner 😭
So, I've actually been meaning to make a post about this (sorry Vanilla, I know this ask has been sitting in my inbox for a long time!) This post will ramble on a bit, but moral of the story is, I am in the process of editing and making tweaks to the fic to reupload it onto AO3 as an orphaned work. Further explanations will be below the cut but feel free to move on, they’re not that important, lol!
When I deleted my fic last year, it was at a time where the dinluke fandom, somewhere I had found so much joy and solace in for over a year, had become a place that just started to make me uncomfortable. I avoided the tags, I downloaded a few of my favourite fics from my favourite authors (who are still some of my beloved mutuals <3) and moved on.
The fic in question, a tangled AU I had written back in 2021, was probably the most prevalent work I had created for the fandom. I wrote it in a time where I needed something light-hearted and warm and fun to write, and writing this fic really did bring me so much joy. Even more so was the response that it received while I was publishing it. I could tell that there were readers who enjoyed reading it for the exact same reasons that I enjoyed writing it, and hearing everyone’s thoughts and feedback every week is part of what made writing this fic so special. Every fic author understands how wonderful it is to share your work with an audience and be able to talk about it with them.
But then the dinluke discourse became more prevalent, and I started noticing more comments on the fic that interpreted the ship and the ‘roles’ of the characters in a way that ... didn’t really make me comfortable. Yes, I had Din as the ‘Flynn Rider’ character and Luke as the ‘Rapunzel’ character, but I felt that that best represented their characters in canon - with Din as the seemingly rough on the outside but warm on the inside one often brushing against the law, and Luke as the driven, optimistic, and sometimes reckless one who is endlessly hopeful. But there were some people in the comments who just wanted to see luke as a typical damsel-in-distress disney princesss, which isn’t what I wanted, or wrote, at all.
And so, having removed myself from the fandom, I removed the fic, too. Looking back, even though I don’t regret what motivated this decision, I do regret removing it from AO3 so quickly and without warning. I know there were people who loved it - I did too - and if I had known more about the option to simply orphan a fic and leave it up on AO3, just not associated with your account, then I think I would have done that instead. But at that point in time, the fic just served as a reminder of how hostile some parts of the fandom had grown, and how I didn’t fully feel comfortable being in a fandom I loved anymore. I didn’t even think I’d ever come back.
But now I am, lol. I’ve reached a point now where I’m comfortable existing in my own corner of the fandom, discussing the ship with my mutuals and sharing content with them, and that’s brought back a lot of the joy that I’d missed. I’d even started to go back to my google doc with the tangled AU fic’s original draft, going through and editing and tweaking it just to remember that joy of writing it. And so, I decided that I want to put it back up onto AO3. I’ll republish the chapters once I’ve finished editing them (the first few are already done) and once it’s all back up, I’ll orphan the fic. That way it’ll be there for all of those who had originally joined me in the journey of writing it, who made me smile every week with their wonderful comments. The fic has always been for them.
Anyways, that got a little melodramatic, lol. I’ll probably start publishing the first couple chapters later today. Other than this post, I probably won’t be mentioning it much more on this account, and simply moving on with the dinluke (and now jedi fallen order oops) brainrot 😂. Stay well everyone! xx

Hi friends! I'm getting my feet wet in the fandom today both with a new fic and a new blog! I'd love if you guys checked out my first dinluke fic & let me know what you think! I'm really excited to start my journey & make new pals in a new fandom. This one's 18+, so minors DNi! Click over to AO3 to read And It's All Alright!
They start with harmless staffs that clank and groan under the pressure of two brilliantly gifted fighters. Mando is quick on his feet and efficient with the armor that covers most of his body. His recklessness is a testament to always having his most fleshy and important bits covered. Luke tucks that knowledge away for when their sabers join the party and the true fun really begins.
For a while, Luke inevitably beats up on the Mandalorian until one day, the staff is knocked out of Luke’s hands and Mando is finally, triumphantly hovering over him.
With his chest still heaving, Luke grins up from his place on the floor. A bubble of laughter escapes when a soft sigh leaves the Mandalorian’s lips – even through the vocoder, Luke hears real pride in the gesture.
“That was amazing. I didn’t even see you coming,” Luke gushes, still heaving out laughs and trying to catch his breath. The next moment, Mando holds out a hand that Luke eagerly accepts. Being lifted to shaky feet is too much for the euphoric feeling Luke’s floating around in and his legs give out. As Mando pulls him up, Luke loses his balance and goes tumbling into an armored chest.
Strong arms wrap around him, holding him tightly against bright beskar. Luke tries not to breath but it’s no use. The desperate desire to look up is too much. Despite knowing eyes won’t be there to catch his own, Luke tilts his head up to stare at the dark line of Mando’s visor. He’s a second away from speaking when that very same helmet comes down to rest against Luke’s forehead, sharp armor against smooth skin.
Luke later finds out that Mando kissed him that day. It takes a few more fumbles into strong arms for the two of them to take the next step. In a post-orgasmic stupor, Luke learns what a keldabe kiss is and its importance amongst the Mandalorian’s.
“Until we’re clan, the gesture is all I’m able to give,” Mando says, a wistfulness to his modulated voice. As if to drive that longing Luke recognizes home, familiar hands come up to frame his face. Luke doesn’t hesitate to tilt his head up; he’s slowly growing used to the cool metal against his skin. The tenderness of it soothes an ache Luke never knew he had. While their carnality is lovely, Luke appreciates the affection more.
Though, that idea is severely tested the day the Mandalorian finally tells him his name. “Call me Din,” he says, sounding both shy and desperately determined. Luke is certain arousal isn’t the reaction his lover is looking for but there’s no time to argue. Moving with the force, Luke is in Din’s lap before their next breath. “Hi, Din,” Luke eventually says, a wide smile on his face.

since you've stepped off the dinluke ride lately i feel like i can say this.
Seeing all the renewed hubbub in the dinluke tag, people mourning what feels like the “death” of the ship has me absolutely rolling my eyes.
Why are people leaving? It’s cause the fic is bad. The fic is bad! The dark!Din, fetishy pablum served up by shyowl et al is unreadable, nevermind the fact that those who write it should own up to the fact that they’re just producing this content for their own and others’ titillation.
But the folks complaining about it the loudest, het up over the fact that their stuff isn’t getting the engagement they want? Their fic is also bad! It’s stilted, out of character, hard to read, unimaginative, and self-important. And, critically, a lot of it still deals in many of the same stereotypes and misrepresentation of queer life as the kinds of stories they're railing against. The problem with the pairing isn't that there are a handful of bad apples. The problem is almost no one is getting it right.
Folks could have just enjoyed themselves with a fun little crack ship while it lasted, written some good stories, and bounced. But the Titanic has sunk, and everyone left is fighting over the same few scraps of flotsam. Get it together.
Hey anon, thank you for messaging me. I’m happy you thought of me and felt able to send me your thoughts, I appreciate it. I agree with a lot of what you’ve said. I recognize your frustration. (Also thank you SO much for introducing 'pablum' into my active vocabulary, what an absolutely perfect word for this situation!!!! omg)
I’ve read very little actual fanfiction for Dinluke. I’m in fandom to make friends, socialise, swap meta and headcanons, talk with other artists and writers about our work. If I want a reading list I can go to the library or check my bookshelf. I’ve prioritized reading the work and the recommendations of my husband and my extremely talented personal friends, and their contributions have all been nothing short of excellent. I’ve never read any of Shyowl’s fanfic; the premises haven't appealed. I do remember that when all the anti-Luke/anti-Armorer stuff was happening during BOBF, Shyowl posted some really good meta takes which I appreciated. My complaints are based on my interpersonal encounters with the fandom at large via Discord, AO3 comments, and Tumblr, almost every day for more than a year.
I think it’s totally appropriate for fiction to be kinky, self-gratifying, unorthodox, countercultural, or even disgusting. It’s appropriate for fiction to explore unsavory ideas in their own right without having to present a conclusive judgement on that exploration. It’s appropriate for fiction to portray the id, not the superego. Authors like Ballard or Palahniuk have written things that made my stomach turn (holy shit, Crash), and they’re no less deserving of being in print for having done that. This goes x10000 for fanfiction which is both written and read for free, with no element of general social elevation being afforded to the author for having done so. Kink is and will always be fringe content. The women who contributed their sexual fantasies to Nancy Friday’s My Secret Garden weren’t immoral, wicked people who were admitting to these fantasies in a published work in order to hurt children and cause the downfall of society. Or whatever.
The problem I have with Dinluke is this, as you said:
“a lot of [vanilla fic] still deals in many of the same stereotypes and misrepresentation of queer life as the kinds of stories they're railing against. The problem with the pairing isn't that there are a handful of bad apples.”
Some of the most popular kink fic is openly written in homage to the vanilla fic - not the other way around. When I was in the old Dinluke server, the kink authors and the vanilla authors were all fans of the exact same small handful of popular fics and artists. They shared appreciation of the same tropes, the same dynamics, the same jokes. The fact that some of them were then inspired to write pornography while others were inspired to write romance is not the issue here.
The homophobic stereotypes, the bland recycling of nuclear family dynamics enforced at the expense of both Luke and Din’s religions/philosophies and even their most basic character traits, the endless and harrowing forced feminisation of Luke Skywalker - this all originates with vanilla Dinluke, and remains consistently present in vanilla Dinluke. Luke the preschool teacher. Luke wearing dresses and lingerie. Luke the theater kid. Luke blushing and stuttering. Luke who can’t hold his drink. Luke who delays before going to save a child’s life to borrow tight pants from his sister and put on designer boots so he can seduce the kid’s caretaker. Luke who always bottoms. (I’ve heard that the Korean Dinluke fandom doesn’t have Luke as a Designated Bottom and I hope they’re all having a great day today.) Poor old Din just has to be A Single Dad, or at best a saccharine pre-Raphaelite fantasy knight-king complete with Reddit-grade chivalry (m’Luke), because none of his actual character traits or beliefs match the comphet, anemic-Dante Gabriel Rosetti-flavored model of this pairing that the fandom seems so utterly reluctant to deviate from.
The dynamic between Kay Adams and Michael Corleone in The Godfather series was abusive, disrespectful, and repellent - without being kinky or pornographic in any way. It’s also more or less exactly the standard dynamic between Din and Luke, except that Luke is typically able to do what Kay wanted to and could not: to soften Din with love. I pray it’s clear that this is not the missing piece making Kay and Michael’s relationship toxic.
I’ve been in fandom for a good 20 years at this point. I fully believe that people should write whatever the hell they want to. If they do, they’ll do doubt find other people who enjoy it too, no matter what it is. Yaoi and Shounen-ai tropes - which are essentially the same tropes as in Dinluke - have always been at their most acceptable (which isn't much, but still) as a kinky fantasy, and at their least acceptable as stomachable romance. The fact that yaoi/BL has enjoyed so much popularity over the years shows that there is obviously a huge market for it. It’s not exactly news to me that people want to see homosexual male romance portrayed like this. But other parts of Star Wars fandom have variety; avoiding a trope or a genre doesn't mean avoiding a character or a ship entirely in every part of Star Wars I enjoy except Dinluke, which mostly seems to be a machine for writing The Same Story. The tropes are just as present in vanilla Dinluke as they are in kinky or dark Dinluke, and it’s the tropes, not the pornography, that are demeaning and unwelcoming. As a result, interacting with anyone beyond the minuscule group of friends I’ve managed to curate feels like enduring a kind of social hazing, and therefore, I’m out.

Choose violence ask game
the character everyone gets wrong
Hrm probably Barriss Offee! This is of course directly due to the racism of Filoni & swtcw writers, but certain sides of the fandom tend to misrepresent her intentions… ie acting as though her goal was to betray Ahsoka, rather than that betrayal occuring as a secondary consequence to her bombing the temple. The temple bombing was an incredibly islamaphobic plotline to begin with but reconciling it with her character is… possible… in that she was so traumatized by the horror of constant death around her that she felt the need to orchestrate a drastic demonstration to get the republic’s attention. But I do not feel as though she was meant to be interpreted as desensitized to that violence but rather reconciling it within herself as a necessary evil to prevent further deaths. But again there are far better and less racist directions Filoni could’ve taken her character in order to make the same point. Like if she left the Jedi order to join resistance fighters like Saw Guerrera, for instance, and we got to see more of the development on screen of her difficulty with alligning the jedi code with her actions. But I digress.
6. Which ship fans are the most annoying?
The easy, obvious and throway answer is obikin shippers lmfao. I definitely understand the appeal of exploring fucked up relationships through fiction. I’m an AMC’s Interview with the Vampire fan. But the romanticization of that particular relationship is sickening to me and a lot of them like to pretend that there isn’t anything like… fucked up to explore there. Like a master/padawan ship’s power imbalance is not typically what these people want to tackly. They just want to draw horny sith obiwan fan art and write about those two fucking from sex pollen (I have perused their side of ao3 out of morbid curiosity. Sex pollen comes up a lot. Unsurprising given the dubcon nature of it, I suppose)
The easy, less obvious answer is probably dinlukes (sorry Ky aslkdjf) or dincobbs like I really do understand the appeal of shipping the single dad with hot young twinks or dilfy men but like there is such barebones support for the ship in the show that it’s nothing to me. Like sorry but these men barely interacted with each other. There’s no substance
12. The unpopular character you like and why more people should like them?
My biggest one is Barriss, but I already talked about her a little bit so I’ll say Arvel Skeen, from Andor. I’ve found his character and what he represents to Cassian fascinating since the end of his arc, which I talked about here. I think the fandom had a tendency to kind of two dimensionalize him / hate him unnecessarily. And then everybody forgot about him lol. When I found his final conversation with Cassian very poignant in establishing Cassian’s values and in exploring Skeen as a character himself.
Send me asks!

I think what’s missing from the dinluke conversation is the distinction and connection between individual actions vs fandom culture. Someone putting Luke in a dress or exploring gender nonconformity through his character is not a problem, but it is a problem when it trickles through fandom and becomes codified as “Luke is The Woman, Din Is The Man.” Someone writing non-con alone is not a problem, but, again, when it becomes influenced by ethnicity and codified as “Din is a violent abuser who craves power over Luke,” it becomes a problem. It’s why these discussions feel so personal to people and why things get so vitriolic.
And it’s not to take away personal responsibility either, I think it just means that it’s extra important that we all step back and understand how we and others are contributing, and try to look at the complexities, rather than implying that “Luke in a dress is bad” because that doesn’t help anyone. People who dislike these trends will see any depiction of something that reminds them of the greater problem and assume it’s bad without a second glance, meanwhile people who like these trends will remain convinced that what they’re doing isn’t bad because they don’t mean it. Nobody understands each other, and nobody wins.
What’s lacking is the understanding that culture IS bigger than any one of us, but we all do contribute to it and have to take responsibility for how it affects queer people and people of color.
(This isn’t directed at you, this is just avenue to share my thoughts, thank u for listening)
Yeah, I think that's an excellent way to describe it.
Every time someone writes or draws gnc Luke, they have not Done a Heteronormativity, so to speak. The issue is, as you pointed out, how things become fandom trends.
When things become widely accepted fanon, it's often like looking at your faves through a fun house mirror. Like, I recognize that that's suppose to be Luke, but it's very distorted. I think why dark!DinLuke tends to be so at the center of all these debates is that those fics are where the distortion is the most obvious and most consistent. It's easy to point at those fics and say "this group of fics is engaging in anti-Latino prejudice and homophobic heteronormativity." I think that's true, but I also think that we should avoid implying that if they went away, we'd have some utopian fandom space.
It's really easy for fanon interpretations to subliminally seep into our brains and affect how we think about these characters, because it's easier to read a few fanfics every week than to constantly rewatch the OT and The Mandalorian. Fanon characterizations tend to flatten the characters down to a few key traits, they are often subject to bias and prejudice, and because they develop somewhat slowly, they are often accepted by the majority of fans and reproduced.
I don't think the answer for the individual creator is to sit there anxious about everything they create and its potential impact (although some self reflection never hurts). Just think of your characters as complex people rather than fandom tropes or in terms of sexual roles. And also maybe rewatch the Original Trilogy once and a while. It's pretty good

Hi friends! I'm getting my feet wet in the fandom today both with a new fic and a new blog (bmodiwritesdinluke (it's still new so it's not showing up in the tags...)!
“Hi, Din,” Luke eventually says, a wide smile on his face

So I’m on A Crown of Candy in my Dimension 20 downward spiral and I’m Struggling, because it’s basically candyland GoT and even Ally making their character say he’s “not really a war guy” once per awkward interaction isn’t enough for me to retain anything beyond cheese = Scottish? My brain apparently has GoT style fantasy repellant on it. But! Every night when I’m about to fall asleep my head is swimming with stories wanting to be told and they’re all somehow tied to A Crown of Candy generally, and Lapin & Theobald specifically and I didn’t understand why for so long…
It’s embarrassingly obvious. It’s my knight/mage dynamic obsession striking again. This is Dinluke all over again. Help.

wip tag game
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!)  I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? Dnd campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
tagged by @coldwaughtered and @lowkeyanakin, thank you!!
If there's no ship in the title or in brackets, it's obikin or vaderwan.

Very drunk Star Wars gang!!
- Cee
Ok THIS I do need to finish because it's my favourite kind of fic: humorous character interaction. Literally just Din and Luke hanging out with Chewie, Han, Leia and Lando on Chandrila and them all getting sloshed. Again, it's a bit of a relic before I developed my ideas for DinLuke so it needs fixing but definitely coming back to this one.
Also Din learns the extent of his husband's sluttiness, lmao.
---
“You did what?!” Din exclaims. That’s it. He needs to drink. He pours himself a shot of [booze], waves irritably at everyone until they obediently close their eyes (except Luke, because he doesn’t need to), tugs up his helmet and knocks it back. It burns on its way down – he really isn’t used to this stuff – and he replaces his helmet, shaking his head and blinking tightly.
“I didn’t do anything!” Luke protests. “She kissed m– OW!”
That was a well-aimed kick under the table.
“It’s not like we knew!” Leia protests, scowling. “Besides, it was a ploy.”
Luke rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, just to make Han jealous.”
“I got to scratch ‘twins’ off the bucket list,” Solo says with a crap-eating grin that Din sorely wants to punch. He simmers with it. The idea of Solo getting to kiss Luke fills him with an unbridled possessiveness he’s never felt before.
Lando laughs, head thrown back, one hand on his stomach. “What are you saying, Skywalker? The only person you haven’t kissed at this table is Chewie?”

which pairings you read and your favourite tropes
thank you for sharing your stories ♥️
Helloooo! Thank you for the q! ❤️
Do you mean f1 pairings? Bc, in that case, it’s exclusively charlos (and chalex if em is writing it) LOL. When I have an OTP, it totally consumes me to the point I can’t see outside of it. Altho when I first started watching f1 and wasn’t yet deep into my charlos brainrot, I read a couple seblewis fics and maybe tried maxiel ? But it feels like that was a lifetime ago haha (outside of f1, I read stony, dinluke, ronan/adam (trc), james bond/Q, and arthur/eames (inception))
When it comes to tropes, it sorta depends on the pairing. But my top tag in my ao3 bookmarks is ‘angst’ apparently 😂 followed by hurt/comfort. I love a good soulmate fic, enemies/friends to lovers, slow burn, mutual pining, sharing a bed… Basically anything I’ve written is a trope I also love to read haha. This isn’t really a ‘trope’ but historical/royalty AUs are a big love of mine as well

Oooh these all sound interesting, but tell me about "get real gone!"
(WIP Ask Game)
Oh my gosh, thank you for the ask!
Okay, so ‘get real gone’ has to be one of the sillier fics that I’ve been working on. It’s a Dinluke NASCAR/Racecar Driver AU that I started working on in a fit of passion after watching the first Cars movie.
In it, we follow Din, who at this point is a well-established racer who put in the time and hours to work himself up the ranks to become one of the top drivers in the circuit. Enter Luke, the wunderkid hot-shot who popped up from some track in the middle of nowhere and is the next shoo-in to win the cup. Now, that's not a problem for Din, or at least it wouldn't be if Luke didn't drive like a bat out of hell with a blindfold on. Apparently, he's not the only one who thinks so either, because we reach our crux when the head of the racing league comes to Din and asks him if he can give Luke some lessons to refine his driving.
It's some good old forced proximity, rivals to lovers with a great dose of shmoop mixed in! This one is a fun stress-reliever for me to work on, but it's actually been surprisingly difficult at parts to write! Finding the voice for this one is tricky, but I like the challenge. I also now know more about race-car driving than I ever thought I would, haha.
Here's a snippet for fun:
“Besides,” the other man continues. “Are you really tryin’ to tell me you haven’t done some stupid racing in your time?”
“I have,” Din snorts, trying and failing not to cringe as the car rips past them, heading towards the first curve, once again cutting the edge far too sharp, back wheels fishtailing out before skidding back into line. “That’s how I know it’s stupid.”
“What’s it to you then?” Paz asks, and Din isn’t much a fan of the mirth he can hear brimming in his friend’s voice. “Jealous of the rookie here, Din?”
Din’s jaw tics. He should’ve seen that coming.
“If I was jealous,” Din bites, “I’d be out there making an ass outta myself right there with him. So, no, Paz. I’m not jealous. Just don’t wanna have to scrape that kid off my track.”
