Something I've talked about a bit but haven't really provided a definition for is emotional permanence.

When people think of object permanence, they usually know that this is the understanding that objects exist even when they are not seen.

Emotional permanence is the same idea except with emotions. It is the concept that other emotions exist when they are not felt.

It is not uncommon for people with BPD to struggle with emotional permanence. (This is not exclusive to people with BPD though.)

For me, this means that when I feel happy, I feel beyond happy and nothing is wrong and nothing could be wrong. It's the only emotion that exists.

On the contrary, when I am sad everything is so bad and terrible and cannot get better. It's all there is.

My emotions in the moment become my one true emotion and I forget that others exist and cannot recall them in memories or at all.

This might explain why we might constantly doubt that others care about us. We may feel reassured in the moment, but given a little time of not interacting with the person we got reassurance from, we may forget what reassurance feels like.

When it comes for coping with it, I haven't been able to come up with a lot but here are some ideas:

Keep a journal of your memories and write the associated feelings with it, including the physical reactions to those feelings.

When dealing with sadness, or other extreme negative emotions, try and do something that makes you feel something else. (Note that sometimes we need to feel negative emotions to move past them, but it's important to not get stuck in them.) Is there a movie that never fails to make you laugh? A song that you can't help but dance to and feel happy/amused (For me, this is "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" or "I'll Make a Man Out of You")

With the last point in mind, keep a list of things that make you feel happy. When you feel happy because you got your favourite coffee drink, or any small thing that makes you smile, write it down on a list. This might allow you to partake in activities that can bring that happy feeling back out when you feel stuck like you could never possibly be happy again.

Practice mindfulness. (Note that this does not have to be breathing, or detailed imagery. That doesn't work for everyone, myself included. Here are some other mindfulness ideas.)

When it comes to needing reassurance from another person, keep screenshots on hand of them reassuring you, keep letters, cards they've given you, etc. You might even be able to ask a loved one to record a voice recording for you to listen to when you need. You could also keep a list of things they've done to show they love you. (For example, my list includes my partner telling me to make sure i wear my seatbelt and making sure my favourite juice is in constant supply in the fridge.)

“Well, glad he’s a genius in something…” You mutter as you down the rest of your drink, causing your friend to side eye you. “Don’t.” You sigh, knowing his look.

“If you’re pissed, you should confront him.” He says and you snort at the thought. And be one of those asshole girlfriends that turns a night sour cause they’re upset?

“Months. Five months straight of him being… A ghost in our apartment. How do I finally bring up my issues with that? Look around. He worked hard for tonight.” You shrug, but it was a bitter statement. You felt like you were living with a stranger, which only added to the stress of what would happen after next week.

“Face it, Hobi. Come next week, we’re graduating. Leaving this place. You’ve got that internship at that dance company for Broadway, Yoongi made his first record as a co-producer. We’re officially all… grown-ups.” You scrunch your nose as you watch your boyfriend continue to associate with others, a huge smile on the face that you haven’t gotten to look at for longer than five minutes here and there.

“Y/N, are you… What are you saying?” Hobi whispers and you straighten up.

“I’m tired. I… I’m gonna go. Don’t tell Yoongi. Let him… enjoy this night.” You say. You didn’t fit in here. You felt like you stuck out. Like it was clear to everyone who was better than who. You set your empty glass down and walk through the crowd, ignoring Hobi’s calls for you to come back. You just needed out…

“Y/N?!” You hear as soon as the front door swings open. You sit up from the bath you’re soaking in and wait, knowing the frantic footsteps would lead to your bedroom and therefore your bathroom.

Just as expected, the bathroom door swings open and Yoongi is standing there, wet from the rain and gripping a bouquet of roses. You sigh softly. Flowers? Really?

“What are you-“ You’re cut off by his upset tone.

“Why didn’t you tell me they rejected you?” He asks and you wrap your arms around yourself slowly.

“I’m in the bath, Yoongi…” You try softly, but your bottom lip quivers. You didn’t want him finding out yet. But come next week, it’d all be obvious. You were denied an internship at your dream publishing company. And to add insult to injury, that was the same day Yoongi declared he needed to ‘focus’, and basically locked himself away from you for about five months.

“Nothing I haven’t seen before. What the hell, Y/N. You tell Hobi about you being rejected but not ME? Your BOYFRIEND?! I-“ You finally interrupt him, feeling angered by his anger.

“Because you weren’t here! You weren’t fucking here!” You scream and Yoongi pauses. “You left! Every night! Gone, in the studio, working on your stuff, and I… I understood. I… I didn’t wanna distract you, but… fuck, Yoongi!” You feel tears burn your eyes as the frustration pours out of you. Yoongi watches you with shame clear on his face. You sniffle a bit. “I didn’t wanna… stress you out.” You admit quietly and Yoongi frowns, walking over to the tub and kneeling down to get to your level.

“You should’ve come to me. Told me. I… I’m never too busy for you…” Yoongi says quietly, and you feel yourself start to let go of your grip on your feelings. You begin to cry, letting it out as he holds you tight to him. You grip his shirt, head going to the cork on his neck. He smelled so good. It felt so good. Being able to be held by him again. After months of barely interacting.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Y/N.” He whispers as he holds you. “Hey. That publishing company is gonna regret never hiring you. You’re the best damn thing out there, and you’re gonna find your own way...” He says as he holds you tighter.

“I feel like… Like I fell flat on my face…” You cry softly. Yoongi pulls back to wipe away your tears.

“I’ll help you up, Y/N. Always.” He nods and you look at him finally.

“You… You’re not gonna… leave me?” You ask quietly.

“Leave you? Why would I…-“ You cut him off.

“You’ve made it. You’re… making connections now. And… Here I am. With nothing figured out, nothing-“ He stops you.

“And you think I have shit figured out?!” He asks in shock.

“Yes! Yes, I think you do.” You say quickly like it was obvious.

“Then you don’t know me at all. Do you? Y/N I’m going with the flow every day. I don’t know about tomorrow or next week or next month. But… I do know the one thing I will always make sure is consistent… is you and I. Always.” He says quietly and you watch his eyes as they trail all along your face. You feel your cheeks heat up. You haven’t felt his heavy gaze on you in so long…

“Yoongi..” you whisper as he starts to lean in.

“No more talking…” he says quietly before his lips press against yours. Both of you letting out the pent-up sexual tension that had built up these past few months…

"My number-one priority, which I said to her, was just to make sure that we were doing it right and that we did it sensitively with a care and a kinship, and I wanted to avoid all kinds of stereotyping, really. So there was an awful lot of script rewrites and things like that. We deleted whole scenes in favour of songs. So I brought in a new song, and I said: 'Can we just cut all this dialogue, and I can just sing something?'" - Joey Batey, Digital Spy interview

The first time I watched that scene, when Jaskier started singing that last part to Prince Radovid:

Of them, I’ve had enough. With you, I have enough. With you, I am enough. I am… I am enough...

I literally started crying. Because, although it's played for laughs, since the beginning of the show, Jaskier's often been portrayed like this "annoying character" that tries too hard to be liked, wanted, and involved in his friends' lives... to find his "forever home"...

But often, he just gets punched in the gut, blamed for everything going wrong in other people's lives, gets told off when he tries to introduce himself or be included in moments where people are there to offer each other comfort (but apparently want none from him) as a result...

Season 2 started to make some progress on that, with Yennefer and Geralt allowing themselves to show more vulnerability around him, and telling him that his help his needed...

Season 3 saw characters that are usually so quick to dismiss him and treat him harshly (ex: Yarpen Zigrin) actually thank him, when they realize how selfless Jaskier can be, and the risks he is willing to take to help others (even those that treat him like an annoying nuisance)...

But still, he'd gotten used, at some point, to being "barely tolerated" rather than "wanted". And his "break up" with Geralt broke his heart and hurt him so much that, although forgiven, I believe it did leave some scars...

As someone with ADHD (that has a tendency to get overexcited about a bunch of things without noticing that it doesn't interest people, impulsively interrupt them with my thoughts, follow them around, and "impose my presence" without meaning to) and associated rejection sensitive dysphoria, Jaskier's behavior and emotional responses are something very easy for me to identify with.

And having him sing "With you I am enough. I am enough," hit me right in the feels, in the most cathartic way!

Prince Radovid is the first person we met on the show, I think, that was shown as being immediately happy to meet Jaskier, wished to adopt that puppy and bring him home right away, saw him as being irresistible and special, envied Geralt for having Jaskier as a friend/companion, couldn't get enough of his singing, and listened when he talked to the things he didn't say...

Knowing that it is Joey himself that just decided to basically show up to work with that song he'd written, and ask if he could sing it instead of using the dialogue in the script, just ended up offering yet another layer to that scene.

When hearing him sing:

"It’s not a want, it’s a need, it is paying no heed to what others say to sing."

now, I can't help but feel like there's some kind of "meta" dimension to those lyrics, as the actor chose to sing what he - as the person embodying Jaskier - wanted to sing, rather than what had been scripted and what others would have wanted him to sing.

That song feels deeply personal, born out of a very intimate understanding of the character, and how being treated the way that he used to be treated would have emotionally and psychologically affected him.

I'll be 100% honest, when Joey was talking about the sapioromantic connection between the characters, and explaining how Radovid wore a mask, was a bit of a mystery to him, and how Jaskier would become fascinated and wish to figure him out...

...I was genuinely concerned that they'd somehow manage to "romanticize" yet another toxic relationship, where the two characters would constantly be trying to outsmart and play mind games with each other.

But that's not it at all. They are both seeing what they try so hard to hide from others. Prince Radovid's environment is highly toxic and dysfunctional (as Jaskier aptly described, he's stuck in a vipers' den) - knowing too much, or not enough - can mean life or death for him.

Whereas Jaskier tries so hard to meet expectations and be what others need or want him to be - give voice to other people's issues, stories and problems - that he all but becomes invisible to others himself as a process.

Sure, they know his name and his songs. But they don't know Jaskier's own soul or story. He fades away in the background for the benefit of others.

They are both trying to figure each other out not because they are people that enjoy indulging in court intrigues, manipulating others, and dominating "the game" for their own gain...

They are trying to emotionally connect with the good, beautiful, and vulnerable parts of themselves that they have been forced to hide from the rest of the world to survive.

They are highly insightful empathetic individuals using their gifts on each other to empower each other, rather than malignant narcissists using their perceptiveness to control each other.

This is an extremely refreshing and healthy relation dynamic that I was sort of hoping for - since Joey put so much emphasis on how important it was for him to offer a relationship that may be flawed, but handled sensitively and carefully without resorting to stereotypes - but this totally went above and beyond my expectations!

If Joey Batey himself isn't queer, then he's got such a capacity for love and emotional empathy that he's apparently able to care about queer issues with the intensity and insightfulness of someone that has experienced them.

The fact that he's using queer labels and sub-categories that are often lesser known by people outside of the LGBTQ+ community to describe Jaskier's sexuality (sapioromantic, panromantic or pansexual...), as well as talking about issues affecting non-monosexuals, such as the desire to avoid bisexual erasure, brings some much needed attention towards the richness and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community!

I sincerely couldn't be happier, or more grateful...

Apparently, there are plans to further explore Ciri's bisexuality, too, with the introduction of Mistle in Season 3!

Here's hoping they'll be using Jaskier as "queer consultant" for the other queer romances on the show...

Also, the relationship between our sweet Bi!Ciri and her weird Pan!Uncle Jaskier means everything to me...

I'm trying to remember if Ciri has been exposed to any models of queer romances in her life...

I mean, most unions between princes and princesses, or kings and queens, are often political alliances. They might have same gender consorts, but I'm not sure that this is something they would have educated younger princesses about, or made very "public".

I sort of want to have her catch Jaskier and Radovid while they are kissing at some point, and realize that the innocent crush she had on Triss in Season 2 is something that is perfectly normal, and that she shouldn't be afraid nor ashamed of that part of herself.

Maybe even go to him and start asking him questions about it... That would be a very thoughtful and sensitive way to explore what being queer means in the world of the Witcher; having Ciri learn, directly from Jaskier, about the potential risks associated with being in an openly gay relationship.

There would really be such an opportunity for the two of them to continue to bond over something like this, and Ciri would know that she's got someone that genuinely loves her and that she can trust to support her and the choices she makes regarding her love life in the future, no matter what.

I can see so many possibilities, though I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic about this (since if they went that route, it would just seem too good to be true!)...

Analyzing 'Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament' - Complete Version

So we all know that Stolas from Helluva Boss is very, very much in love with Blitzo(The 'o' is silent, so pronounced as 'Blitz').

However, throughout the series, Blitzo seems to be oblivious. An example of this is stated in the Helluva Boss series, "Hey! Stolas only cares about having a rugged peasant raw-dog him into his mattress, it's nothing.. y'know.. it's nothing else(Season Two, Episode Six, 10:12-10:20)."

Now, shortly after another episode of the series came out, season two episode seven, to be exact, a music video came out. It was a song for Stolas which, in the first minute, everyone could tell it was indefinitely about Blitzo.

The beginning of the music video starts with Stolas receiving an Asmodean Crystal from Asmodeous, the Sin of Lust, which Stolas had asked for in the sixth episode of season two, "...he needs to access the mortal realm to carry out his work. I know your demons are some of the only ones who can traverse freely and legally. I was wondering if you could help me find a way he could, too?(Season Two, Episode Six, 7:33-7:46)."

Throughout the music video, Blitzo is being compared to the full moon, which, as per an agreement the two made in the very first episode of the series, is a reference to their full moon contract.

Basically, their 'unspoken contract', as Stolas put it, is Blitzo gets to use Stolas' grimoire for his work, and because Stolas requires it to finish his duties with the Goetia family, they have a once monthly meeting on the full moon, where Stolas collects the grimoire and they have a night of 'passionate fornication'.

This is what makes Blitzo think of Stolas as a prick who doesn't want anything more than sex from him. This was stated in season one episode seven of the show, "Stolas, don't act like what we have is anything but you wanting me to f**k you, okay? You make that really clear all the time(Season One, Episode Seven, 14:36-14:43)." And this was what Stolas has realized what Blitzo thought of their relationship.

And so, in an effort to prove Stolas truly loves him and truly cares about more than sex, he is going to attempt to give Blitzo the crystal so he isn't made to associate with Stolas as he wouldn't require the grimoire to travel to Earth.

Now, back to the music video, which is what this analysis is truly about. We are going to be analyzing the lyrics of the song, and the meanings behind them.

After Stolas starts singing, he sings, "I am a guardian/a watcher of these ancient rites/yet I find myself drawn from that path/on those dazzling moonlit nights(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 0:30-0:46)." This is a reference to the full moon escapades he and Blitzo have.

"Let me hold you/Keep you close to me/I long to hear your voice/But dearest/I know better now/I must give you this choice(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 0:46-1:01)." Stolas is realizing he can't make Blitzo do something he doesn't want to do, so he's saying the choice is his to make, as it is. And he wants to be able to be close to his lover but he can't because Blitzo is just pushing him away.

"I can give you everything you need/Or do you want to hear me plead/Just look my way/Just look my way/Is there something more that I don't know/That you won't say 'til we've both grown cold/Just say 'please stay'/Look my way(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 1:02-1:33)." Through these lyrics, Stolas shows how much he truly cares about Blitzo. He is willing to plead with the Imp to show him how much he cares about him.

"This unspoken contract/A deed we forged for mutual gain/If that's all this was when you're not here/What is this rooted pain?/I don't care that you're of lower station/Or primed to sate my dark temptations/Why can't you understand?/Let me explain(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 1:36-2:07)." Stolas is shown to be in love, it's shown to be more obvious as he is directly addressing Blitzo with his feelings, even if he's not talking to Blitzo while he's saying it. The symbolism isn't as exaggerated as it was before the lyrics.

"And I'm terrified/As I cry/To make these feelings true/What's left for me/And my broken heart/If I cannot have you(Just Look My Way, 2:08-2:22)." Stolas is very obviously upset at the fact Blitzo does not seem to want him back in a romantic, and really even a sensual, sense, even though there were some notable instances where it is very obviously not true. In Helluva Boss' sixth episode of season two, Blitzo went on a tirade about the reasons Stolas doesn't like him back, as he is in denial about both of their feelings.

"Unless it's me/And no matter what in this world I could give/It's not enough/To get through the walls you've conjured up to live(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 2:25-2:40)." At this point, Stolas had realized that Blitzo tends to want to distance himself from people who he cares a lot about because he's afraid of hurting them. And Stolas is finally recognizing that fact.

"Is this what you feel?/Scorned by a realm that cannot comprehend/What you are/So I'll grant you this mercy/This bind/On our souls needs to end(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 2:40-2:59)." Stolas is finally recognizing Blitzo is not happy in the situation.

The entire music video is more of how his and Blitzo's relationship has evolved throughout the two current seasons and the lyrics are representing the seventh episode of the first season when Blitzo finally revealed what he felt about Stolas, "Stolas, don't act like what we have is anything but you wanting me to f**k you, okay? You make that really clear all the time(Season One, Episode Seven, 14:36-14:43)."

"I will try to make amends/For making you means to an end/So look my way/Please look my way/And if there's something more that I don't know/I'll save us both before we grow cold/If you'll stay/And just say 'Look my way'(Just Look My Way - Stolas' Lament, 3:02-3:34)." Interpreting this is Stolas is trying to restore a relationship with Blitzo and failing no matter what he does and it makes him feel like he's drowning as in the last lyric he is seen falling into water and sinking until he slumps into his desk and cries.

If it doesn't make a lot of sense as it goes on, even though it should, it will be okay. Interpreting the music video is basically just Stolas' feelings as he goes through the series with his relationship with Blitzo from start up until the point we're at in the Helluva Boss series.

To summarize, Stolas is very in love with Blitzo, but doesn't think he loves him back and vice versa. And the song and the analytics from the videos and the series itself just prove it in return. And this is why Stolas is in love with Blitzo from Helluva Boss.

So remember when I said, "I'm gonna go work on the orekoto side of this now." Here that is right at the last possible moment. Along with two songs I associate with him. Oh, and one for both of them that is simply just projection since it is one of my favorite songs. Again, apologies in advance for any spelling or grammatical errors.

This space was vast and bright- A constant vibrant blue overcast sky that seemed to stretch into eternity. Few walls to conceal oneself behind. Most were so demolished they barely provided any cover at all. Our television lay submerged within water that perfectly mirrored and reflected the vastness of the sky above.

It was one of my favorite things to watch. Sunken and useless. I looked to the side where that mirror was. From the chair I was in I couldn't get a good look at it, which meant it couldn't get a good look at me either.

They say eyes are the windows to the soul. So, for us that mirror was the closest thing we got to seeing each other's perspectives as well as reflecting on our own.

"Huh...this entire thing is a mess."

I got knocked out in one hit after talking all big to that annoying brat. Who do they think they are treating me like that. I told them if they keep pushing, I'll have to intervene. I don't have another choice.

These people think they can use their morals, their opinions to kick down on others to no end. Then go on and on about their good intentions and their duty. Because it's just business right? It's always just fucking business.

That kid is no different from the others. Just another asshole that uses their job as an excuse to enact harm to those subordinated to them. No matter what they wrap it with-

Shit always smells like shit. It's fine though because they don't have to smell it. They force us to smell it. The people whom they kicked to the bottom. They rub your nose in it over and over as you're trying to get back up. No matter how you hold it in, work around, try to make yourself seem small to get by none of it matters.

Nothing matters. Not what you try, not where we go, it never matters. After society decides you're wrong you're wrong there's no way out of it. No changing people's minds, explaining your side, hell it doesn't even fucking matter if the thing they've decided you were wrong about isn't even the damn truth!

Noises kept funneling in through the mirror as I tapped my foot and massaged my temple in annoyance again.

I'm being blamed again. Even though I didn't even do anything wrong.

"I saved you didn't I; so, why the hell are you crying?! Huh?! Shouldn't you thank me? Praise me even?! Why should it be me who's in the wrong?"

He's always like this. Why do I even bother? It's not like he'll hear any of this anyway.

"YOU'RE THE REASON I ENDED UP LIKE THIS- THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS ANSWER!"

The sound reverberated throughout the space in a headache inducing way.

"AHHH!" I scratched at my head before I got up chair toppling over as stormed up to the mirror. "Aagh, you would've gotten destroyed- I DID WHAT I DID FOR YOUR SAKE! IF- if I hadn't... Whatever!" I kicked at the water in annoyance before turning away and laying on the couch. Huh...

"Why is he like this? I don't understand...and it's really beginning to piss me off." I sighed, turning over the couch.

"I've worn myself out enough already anyhow."

The words drifted listlessly from the mirror and I clicked my tongue.

"Finally, something we can agree on."

I just want to sleep until this is over... if we can't even rely on eachother. If you can't even rely on me...I'll start to wonder if you'd rather be alone.

"It's so empty in here."

I grew antsy leaning backwards over the armrest in a haphazard way. Just to check if that mirror was still there. I don't want that...I never wanted that.

I relaxed a little as my eyes landed on it still sitting there as it's always been.

The Indie Underground AU

So y'all are familiar with underground music scenes? In this au, the idea is taken more literally. Originally founded by the Almighty Trollmir and some of the ancient critters, the Indie Underground is a haven for the misfits and outcasts of the tribes, as well as smaller genres and sub-genres in the troll kingdoms. Now, did I mention that the Underground is sustained with the help of Trollmir's magic? More info under the cut regarding those two new troll ocs and why Poppy and Branch look like that!

(I'm gonna say right now though, that this au is probably gonna be my most complex/dense one yet, probably even beyond the upcoming harmonic heroes au; this story is taking some old ideas of mine from past aus I made outside of this fandom)

So, there are various kinds of citizens in the Indie Underground:

-monochrome trolls: trolls that were born gray, but otherwise is like any other colorful troll; the techno troll pictured above is a Monochrome Troll by the name of Monna!

-robot trolls: with the assistance of magic, trolls have been able to engineer robots not only with self-awareness, but some of these robots also harbor the souls of trolls that perished 'too soon'. The robot funk troll is named Shelly!

-acapella trolls: normally mute trolls that wear face masks pretty much all the time. They are the experts at making sounds with their voices and bodies. They love to provide backup instrumentals to other's songs, but maybe you'll be lucky to get one to sing...?

-alt. rock and grunge trolls

-trolls with physical abnormalities for their tribes (feral trolls fall under this category)

-the general outcasts

-trolls that went gray (note: the leaders of the underground have been trying to invite branch for years but for some reason something always happens to the invite...)

-trolls that prefer a different lifestyle than what's acceptable to their tribe

Monna and Shelly were originally designed to be Broppy adopted children but then I realized that there's something much more fitting for those two that I have in mind!

As for the hand signs Monna, Poppy and Branch are making: it's a common symbol for the trolls of the underground to use. Basically, their motto is: "When you call, we'll always be there." They're the definition of a community coming together like a big family.

Now why does Branch look like a monster?

Now there's quite a bit of plot-related reasons, but basically:

-the place Trollmir resides is basically the 'Heart' of the magic in the troll kingdoms, north of the classical mountains

-over the years, she would select specific trolls to take on the role of Light Keeper, trolls that hold the power to protect their world and to guide their people in times of crisis; it's also a way to help protect the sacred Heart

-Poppy, Branch, and a few others were identified to have been given the title, alongside the magic associated with it

-Poppy was also given the role of the Mediator: she's an expert healer and magic user and has the ability to see Biosouls (I'll explain them another time), she’s also able to ‘control’ Branch in his Attacker State (a major reason as to why she's primarily wearing blue), and make sure he doesn't get too animalistic or feral.

-Branch, instead of the Mediator, was instead also given the role of the Attacker: he has the ability to not only see Biosouls but can transform into a powerful beast. While in this 'attacker state', he can't really physically speak, but thanks to a bit of telepathic magic, Poppy can hear his voice in her head, so to speak. He can somewhat control himself as a monster, but is more prone to go berserk. Other than that, his job is to be able to protect his gf.

{Kimtaegis’ GFX Breakdowns, Ep. 1:

↳ SARANG/SARAM; a namgi web weave}

better late than never – I’ve mentioned that this year, I will start writing my thought process behind my graphics down in actual posts instead of hiding them in the tags of a self-reblog, both for myself and those who are interested in that, so here we go!

the first more graphic-y post of the year was a little birthday present for @outroindigo, who told me that namgi’s dynamic as well as their solo music are extremely important to her, so that was the starting point basically! I initially wanted to use a web-weave-like layout for yoongi's birthday post this year, but thought that it just fit too well for this project, since including lyrics and website screenshots made it so convenient to explain the topic. the main source of inspiration but also material source was doolsetbangtan, an incredible blog that not only translates bts' lyrics, but also gives extra insights and explanations of their word plays, references to reoccuring lyrical themes and even links to other media that are connected to the songs' content. they were a huge help, most elements that ended up in the post had been already pointed out under their sites for trivia: love, people, and people pt. 2 respectively, I pretty much only had to follow the mentions and use them!

my post starts with the first half of a quote from namjoon from his november 2016 vlive and ends with it as well (in the caption) to tie the whole set together. I tried to organize the elements in a way that even someone who has never heard of the whole live/love/sarang/saram thing can easily follow and understand it, while also maintaining a pleasant overall layout and colour change (planning that took quite some time, I tell you). the trivia: love lyrics panel is a screenshot I took from spotify, I just changed the background colour to fit. underneath the people performance gif is an excerpt of yoongi's billboard interview from july 2023. the rest are screenshots directly from doolset, gifs from yoongi's iu's palette interview and selfmade visualisations of lyrics, etc. I decided against listing all the content elements in the caption - as usually done for an actual web weave - because some media was used multiple times and it would've felt weird to repeat it in the listing.

regarding more stylistic choices, I decided on a blue and warm yellow-orangy colour scheme, both because kari's current blog layout is this beautiful blue, but also because I associate blue with both namjoon (especially after indigo, obvs) and yoongi (his painting from 2020 instantly comes to mind). since 'love' on the other side is often portrayed as something warm and cosy, red/orange/yellow became the contrasting colours. I tried very hard to make all the colours look as consistent as possible and to match the shades of blues to kari's blog colours. funnily enough, there always seemed to be either something blue or warm-toned in the actual content, which was pretty convenient. besides the pseudo-screenshots for some of the lyrics (typed out in fonts that are typically used in books), I created three graphic elements as well, simply because I know sweet kari appreciates them and I wanted to have a personal kimtaegi touch in it. the first one is a visual representation of people pt. 2's lyrics. I always thought of faceless silhouettes when thinking of people, and combined that with yoongi's painting style (you see that painting means a whole lot to me lmao). since I can't really draw, I used paintings I found on pinterest (you can find the whole board in the source of the og post), masked the person and the heart out and changed their colour (which is not as easy as it sounds!). the fading effect was achieved by carefully going over both until I liked how it looked (which again, took embarrassingly long). the second graphic element is again a direct visualisation of the lyrics used in the panel: I digitally cut up a picture of namgi, in multiple rectangles that are supposed to represent the letter ㅁin saram. I actually printed the picture out first and cut it up with scissors, but I couldn't find a good way to scan it back in :( so digital cutting it was; please note that the edges of every snippet are rough, I always try my best to make it look as realistic and tangible as possible which is time-consuming but adds a nice touch in my opinion.

the collage effect of this graphic is inspired by works of anthony garace. his artworks are stunning, and I do love a good mixed media effect! also it just fits perfectly with the lyrics... among all these straight lines (-> the rectangles), [I find/ is] my love, my love, my love (-> little snippets of a picture of the two). the flowers in the last graphic both represent yoongi (the lotus flower cutout, referencing his amygdala lyrics about blooming like a lotus flower, which is also achieved by love, y'know :( ) and namjoon (the wildflower; yes it's an actual blue wildflower, I researched! it's a wild blue flax; referencing his same-named song). I used an actual photograph of it and made it look like a painting with photoshop magic. it also was supposed to look just a litte like a cynotype as used in his album design.

again, look at all those nice rough edges in that panel, this is all added intentionally. I hope everyone who saw the post also caught the teeny tiny animation of the hangul letter ㅁ to ㅇin the text on the left side; quite literally eroding edges <3

the last gif of ot7 was perfect to round it all up, referencing the lyrics above quite emotionally, starting off with the two of them, then them being joined by the rest....sigh. I will be honest, there have been a few tears falling onto the keyboard. I hope this set can convey namgi's beautiful lyricism in an interesting, artistic way. it's easy to get inspired by their art, it definitely makes you appreciate everything they do even more.

Immediately, these lyrics remind me of when Eren was imprisoned in Season 4.

Actually, there were a lot of times that Eren was behind bars I think 💀 jailbird fr HAHAHAHAH

I've gotta beat time We're running out of time

Now this one is a bit tricky to explain.

While Eren can't physically time travel, I find that these lyrics can relate to how he kind of knows what's going to happen and despite trying to change his fate, or at least trying to make choices to lead to something different, he can't.

(I'm assuming that was how it worked anyway.)

But you can't outrun the preordained. You can only act with the hand you've been dealt.

I also think of the titan shifter's lifespan and how they don't live forever, despite being so powerful.

Promise me That this can build a home

Promise me That we will not get old

Oof...

This part of the song is definitely a little heartbreaking, knowing that Eren dies and he can't grow old with Mikasa.

Despite that, everyone moves on and builds new lives for themselves with the temporary peace they've been given.

Eren is the only one who doesn't grow old - but it's because of this fact that the others could finally settle down and build a proper home for themselves.

Eren's life has inevitably become a mess.

Frankly, everyone in the AOT universe lacks structure in their lives. They all have had to constantly adapt to change.

Mikasa is a constant in Eren's life, but he isn't one in hers. The second line can be attributed to when Eren says that truly, he doesn't want Mikasa to forget about him.

That he wants to be on the forefront of her mind for at least another ten years, despite being dead.

It's a selfish desire, despite the fact that he won't be able to spend time with her. And yet, Mikasa is still the one thing Eren can count on to still be there for him, waiting.

After all, she did say see you later, Eren.

Definitely much heavier meaning to this part of the song.

Of course, Eren leaving Mikasa and Armin behind. He's known for a long time what it is that he has to do and nothing can change that.

It's a cruel fate for them, honestly.

Once again, Mikasa being a devoted and loyal to Eren, even if he has left her heartbroken.

I think at the end of the episode when we see that she grew old and passed away, we also see that she's holding the same flowers that were on Eren's gravestone.

I think this may be why she said see you later, because she would reunite with him in the afterlife. The last two lines of this song remind me of that.

Obviously this song is in the perspective of a couple but I think you can be a bit imaginative and include Armin in part, regarding how he desperately wanted to see the outside world.

There was so much they hadn't seen or explored yet, and that was one of their original ambitions/goals. They used to be so bright-eyed.

At the end of the day, though, everyone knows that with being a scout comes inevitable death, pains, and losses.

While chasing for that freedom and exploration, everyone drew closer to their own demise - some just luckier than others.

Also, the title? Moon - when it was a full moon when Eren asked Mikasa what he was to her, and river - the ocean and how it was always Armin's dream to go there.

When you think about this song as a standalone, it is clear that the overall message is about trying so hard to make something work when it just can't.

And you know it can't.

But knowing this impossibility, everyone's beliefs, choices, and devotion are unshakeable.

Even if they're losing, or if they can't change their fates, whether or not this is a never-ending loop they'll keep their place and pay for it.

Because at the end of the day, these characters wouldn't be who they are or do what they need to do without betting on something to lose.

Just as Armin said, you can't change anything if you aren't ready to abandon something. Is it love? Giving your heart to the cause? Your own freedom?

It changes depending on the perspective of who you're looking at this song from.

Whoever it is, they all stick by each other, knowing that there is one losing dog they bet on: Eren.

But not just them, so does humanity. He was humanities last hope in the beginning.

He doesn't get his happy ending, but Mikasa looks into his eyes before he goes "down".

What kind of songs remind you of the JJK Boys? (Personally “Begging” by Maneskin reminds me of Gojo)

Oooo, this is very intriguing! I do agree with Begging being very Gojo, but also I also heavily associate Middle of the Night and Affection admittedly because those songs have inspired his fics for me lol. OH also Ghosting.

As for Nanami Dead Inside immediately jumps to mind. I also personally headcanon Nanami as loving rock music and being a major tool fan, so AEnema is also very Nanami to no one other than me lol. Also, I will never be able to explain it, but Fake Out is a Nanami song. Is that just me?? seriously let me know what ya'll think about that one because I can't justify it.

As far as Suguru goes this is where a lot of my villain songs come in. Laplace's Angel is very heavily Suguru for me. All Apologies is a very specific brand of sad boy Geto for me that I can't get enough of lol. also One and Only purely because I wrote my (scrapped) Priest Geto fic based on it lol.

(As a bonus, Running up that Hill is very Sugtoru for me)

Ryomen is actually pretty hard for me! Mostly because so much of my music association with him goes into my personal inaccurate characterization of him. I Am My Own Muse is very Sukuna to me, the song just has his intensity. Stay and Decay also has his vibes for reason unknown to even me, lol. I'm also going to go ahead and say Everything Black feels like loving Sukuna in the beginning, before the toxicity of him really sets in lmaoo.

This made me realize I need to make some playlists for my boys LMAO

Hi! First, I love your game. I just started Arc 5 last night, and I'm so excited to keep playing! I had a question about the soundtrack. I know you did not compose the songs, but did you have any specific instruments/vibes/ect in mind when choosing music for each character? Thought of this because I noticed most of Orlam's associated music includes a theremin (fucking excellent choice for him btw), and I guess I wuz wondering if that was intentional + if there are instruments for the others too?

LOL i didn't really have any specific instruments in mind per se, but i definitely had vibes in mind for them. and because of those vibes, i tended to gravitate towards songs from the same or similar composers when i was choosing songs for different scenes

orlam's in particular all REALLY have a similar vibe because almost every one of the songs somewhat related to him are by the same composer, who is one of my absolute favs, kohrogi. and kohrogi uses a ton of theremin in all of their songs, so that probably explains it LDKAJSDKFA like literally all of these songs are by kohrogi:

i have a tendency to find a composer i like and use a ton of their music, and in that way, it kind of naturally gives more consistency and vibes i think perhaps 💦

i also used the same composer for a lot of orlam's songs in Arc 5 (not kohrogi this time, but a different one, but the same one for multiple songs), though i won't go into that here as you haven't played it yet lakdjfad but probably you will notice that perhaps

as for the others, i can't really think of quite as strong of a theme across the different songs related to them 🤔 somehow orlam's music vibe to me is the strongest perhaps LOL tho i also lucked out a bit that for both the songs i chose for genzou's and gidget's themes for instance, there were two versions of them, which gave me some variety (and i created an even slower version of genzou's music box theme for arc 4 myself)

you can kinda see how i find and latch on to new composers tho across production if you look at the song/composer list in the music gallery lkadjfad like you'll notice i found a new composer i really loved in arc 5.1 (who is also the composer i used a ton in OFW), then another one in 5.15. i think i use the same composer every time i want a solo piano piece. those kinds of things. somehow i'm quite glad about the order in which i found a lot of these though as i absolutely love how the soundtrack has turned out and i listen to it constantly even myself lakdjfads

Favorite thing about them: The Layers.

Take it this way- Sora's like a teeny tiny piece of sweet candy, hidden under a sad, dull wrapping of loneliness. And another of prickliness. And another of misled loyalty and beliefs. And a final, garishly bright one of childish enthusiasm, that leaves you wondering which of them is the real wrapper.

The answer? All of the previous. The contradictions and conflict shaping Sora's character are so strong they reflect in his deck too, in one of the arguable best shows of thematic references from an archetype in the franchise's history. Neat.

Least favorite thing about them: Obligatory "he deserved better" aside, I actually have little to no gripes with Sora. Like yeah okay his "oooh very mysterious" disposition in arc 1 was kinda grating on first watch, but he grew on me exceptionally fast. Perks of being a tiny piece of sugar concentrate, I suppose.

Favorite line: As you can tell from my previous answers, I rarely if ever remember particular lines. However, I do have to give a shoutout to Sora in Ep136 specifically, because by god, the emotion carrying through his voice is just perfect. And by perfect I mean it punched me in the feels so hard I was reeling for the rest of the episode the moment he shed a tear. Twice.

brOTP: To the surprise of nobody ever, it's Yuuya. I actually oscillated a lot between him and Yuzu while typing this out, but then I got the very compelling argument of rewatching all my favorite Sora bits- and it turns out there's more Yuuya in those. Figures.

I really wish they got more personal screentime together, because their relationship and foil status seemed very important in the S1 finalé and then... never got brought up again? Not that prominently, anyway.

I will, however, applaud Episode 80 and its aftermath, and even Episode 136 for the aforementioned punch in the feels- i.e that time when Sora finally mustered the will to reach out to his friend first... and promptly came to the crushing realization that it was far too late. I can't explain in words how important this moment was to me. Ow.

Random headcanon: Having decided to settle in Maiami when all was said and done, Sora put in genuine effort to skip a year in middle school- and passed with flying colors!

Unpopular opinion: I feel like it's pretty hard to find a hot take for this kid; most of the fanbase seems to be in agreement about their sentiments toward Sora, and I'm no exception to the hypothetical rule.

Song I associate with them: When Can I See You Again, by Owl City. Yes. The Wreck-It Ralph ending. I don't quite remember what stuck the song to him, but I'd wager that younger me watched a Sora episode in succession with the movie and went "oh this kinda reminds me of him".
