Still thinking about how someone wrote a post venting about how doctors do not care to help diagnose you if you have an illness that poses a challenge to them, and someone in tbe comments said "this is just like blorbo Dicksuck from star trek!"

Since it’s getting colder, this is a reminder for all the disabled people who need it: hot water bottles and heat pads CAN and WILL burn you if you use them too often for too long. Usually low level burns that don’t show until they get worse but slowly worsen over time, damaging your skin, sometimes permanently.
I know this from experience. I’m not saying don’t use hot water bottles or heat pads but be aware that they can cause damage, specifically if you’re using them in ways that aren’t advised. Do what you have to, I just wanted to point it out so that people can remember to be careful if they can.

Doc found people who’s bodies broke, replacing one part of them with a mechanism that would keep them alive forever (with consent kind of??). She medically experimented on them and for millennia they roamed the galaxies together on the star ship aurora (a sentient moon-turned-space-ship who is in a loving relationship with one of the mechanisms, nastya rasputina whose mechanism is mercury blood). The doc hated her creations and what they did (mass murder and all that good shit), so she left. She gets such a bad rep in the mechs fandom. People will infantilize the mechanisms while villainizing The Doc. That’s not the story and she realized what she had done to the mechs and left and this is a terrible explanation but i love her sm and i wouldn’t even mind if she turned me into an immortal space pirate.

WIBTA if i asked my friend to limit using self insert characters in our stories?
yes this is a chronically online submission
me (21f) and my friend (19m) make original collab stories together and i have an issue with him always making self inserts. i don't normally mind, i make self inserts too, they're fun!
the thing is that every male character he makes is a self insert, while every female character is his love interest. there's rare exceptions to this (such as kids) but 99% of his characters are either one or the other.
this is a hobby i'm very invested in, i put a lot of effort into the things we make. i love building our little worlds and making varied OCs. seeing him just slap himself into every concept has started to get annoying. i don't mean to discredit him because i know he puts effort into the characters and stories, but it feels like completely different levels here.
i think what bothers me specifically is that in a way it feels like i'm building a playground for his amusement? like an interactive game or something? it's especially frustrating to make characters interact since it's basically my OCs and MyFriendx50. it's made me avoid every male OC he has just in case it gets to self shipping, which makes me uncomfortable (this has happened a long time ago and we've set boundaries since but the possibility of it happening again makes me shudder)
i understand we're different people with different approaches/goals and i know that i take this pretty seriously (again it's a hobby i hold very dear). honestly i doubt he has any ill intent. i don't want to stop doing this with him because it's fun and we have really cool ideas, but this is frustrating to deal with since it's fr almost all of his characters.

mostly a vent but—how do so many adults not only know so completely zero about nourishing themselves properly, but also have zero curiosity about their nourishment on top of that? like how are basic nutritional facts and basic food nutritional profiles and the barest RDAs not known and not even wondered about
like i meet adults every single day who literally can’t grasp the concept of a meal that they know and understand the components of. like. they legitimately don’t know or care what they’re eating at any point of the day but have complaints of many solvable symptoms of nutrient deficiency or saturation
even a large number of people who cook all the time will seem to have this incredible blind spot for knowing anything about nourishment
like there are people who think you legitimately don’t get nutrients from anything but animal flesh and leafy greens and then i’m supposed to act surprised when their bloodwork is a mess
and when i suggest “oh you may need to include more things like orange juice and potatoes and bananas and pumpkin seeds and dried fruit for other quick sources of electrolytes that aren’t just shit tons of sodium” after friendly discussions of muscle cramping despite water and Gatorade consumption
and they’re like “oh my god you’re so smart…,” lmao no i’m fucking not!!! fr how can you have persistent muscle cramping every day and not even WONDER if it’s related to what you do or do not put into your body. that’s my FIRST thought every time i have a palpable issue—“maybe i’m getting too little or too much of something, let’s get curious and think critically about what i’m currently eating and drinking”
especially people with chronic illness like me!!!!! come on now!!!!! how can you not even deign to google what nutritional advice you might benefit from!!!!
i’ve fr had people be in awe of my casual recommendation of eating more fiber. and even more awe about what foods contain fiber. like. you cannot be serious that you didn’t know that about your human body. you cannot be fucking serious!!!!!!!
how can you go through your day—through your adult life—not knowing or caring if you’re meeting your individual nutritional needs and how can you not even be CURIOUS about that if you know that you don’t know. ppl act like you need regular bloodwork to be able to suspect anything abt your body enough to try the very risky risk of simply eating more of xyz type of food (usually a fruit or vegetable god forbid) or something to just see if it helps with your issue ykwim. like eat an apple and maybe your gums will stop bleeding, matey. oh no cap’n i can’t i would need sooo much bloodwork to know if it’s ok to try eating an apple!!! come on now
like. i know im not a genius to just be knowing Feeding Yourself Properly 101. my parents never taught me a damn thing about nutrition and i never even learned it at school. it’s not hard. i know it’s not. so everyone else must just be stupid as hell abt this or willfully ignorant
and maybe they are bc the average western diet has most ppl malnourished despite a very, very large daily intake of calories so idk man IDK!!!!!

If I ever become rich there are two things I am doing immediately:
Personal chef and house cleaning service.
My chronically ill ass is so tired of having to figure out what to eat 2-3x a day every day and routinely having to eat suboptimal food because it's available/close by and I'm disabled. And definitely tired of spending all my energy cleaning and then by the time I recover from the cleaning the house is dirty again. I've started waiting longer and longer between cleaning sessions but that just makes me sad because my house is dirty.
But fr I feel like people really underestimate how hard it is to (affordably and regularly) feed yourself good and healthy food when you're disabled and work a full time job. Perhaps if I worked part time or not at all I could go shopping for fresh food and cook my meals at home more, but if I don't work full time I can't afford food at all so...
And same logic goes for cleaning, except it's so hard on my body I'm not sure quitting my job would make that situation much better.

hi kaiser hello <333 that is SOOO valid tbh inazuma specifically is a headache for multiple reasons... i think i'm going to watch someone else play the fontaine archon quest (...i did this with baizhu's story quest too LMAO) because i have no genshin motivation, but there are a couple people who are wanting to hear my thoughts about lyney lynette & freminet. THAT'S NOT THE POINT THOUGH I WOULD BE SO DELIGHTED TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT BAIZHU i love him so much he is so dear to me... as a professional baizhu liker i would be glad to help you out. if you need me to, i can explain anything in more detail! just let me know <33
first and foremost, baizhu is generally a very gentle, benevolent, and patient character. he's got sass to him, but generally is very kindly about everything he does. also my guy is so stubborn. god. he is so stubborn.
^ additionally, he is well-trusted by children because of his soft demeanor. they generally aren't scared of check-ups performed by him.
regarding his stubborness, baizhu tests his own medication on himself. he will also poison himself to gain a better understanding of what poison he's working with. he's stubborn with things like his own health and the way he tests medications.
now, this may be more of a headcanon, but... about baizhu's supposed cowardice. yeah. i don't think that's true. do you know the distinction between being harmless and being peaceful? one who is harmless can cause no damage. one who is peaceful can cause damage, but chooses not to. i believe baizhu is peaceful, not harmless. to me, his supposed cowardice is... not genuine. i don't see it, but this opinion may vary depending on who you ask i think.
he is a good-hearted person canonically...
...however.
bro also, canonically, has shady business practices. i personally write these business practices in a very particular way; that being, baizhu overcharges people who he knows can afford to be overcharged. he overcharges the wealthy.
^ similarly, baizhu may sometimes charge nothing at all. he does this when he knows someone can't afford what they need. he generally does his best to make healthcare accessible. he's so real for that.
this is a little headcanon-y, but baizhu cannot stand people claiming to heal illness through piety and faith. he fucking hates that.
^ that headcanon is based off of the fact that he has legal dealings with yanfei about people selling fake medication and whatnot.
i don't know if you know baizhu's entire backstory yet, but the general idea is that changsheng is something akin to an adeptus and has been making contracts with people to keep herself alive for (presumably) a few centuries.
her power enables her hosts to use what baizhu refers to as a "secret art" to heal folks ailed by anything from injuries to poisonings... but of course, there is a drawback. the user of this art transfers whatever their patient is suffering from onto their own body. this is why baizhu is disabled and chronically ill; he has taken on probably every condition known to man fr but we love him for being so kind.
changsheng can only make contracts with pure of heart people. people who aren't genuinely, truly good literally are not viable for her contract. she will die without a host (presumably because her power is slowly draining and she can no longer sustain herself without the support of another being's life force).
^ going off of that, this is part of the reason why baizhu seeks immortality (and do be sure to remember that his pursuit is not a secret. literally all of liyue knows AJSKSHAKFHF... but do also keep in mind that changsheng's contract is a secret so he doesn't tell people about that part). he doesn't want her to die, but he also doesn't want another person to take up her contract and continue the cycle. i also like to think that he doesn't want to leave qiqi alone but that's just me being insane over dad!baizhu he's so fatherly in my brain please hear me out on this one /lh
to stop qiqi from fulfilling orders, if i recall correctly, someone would have to hug her and tell her they love her the most. baizhu does this, but the effect is greatly diminished when he says it. the only reason baizhu sounds insincere when he tells qiqi "i love you the most" is because he believes every life has equal value. he loves her, but not the most, because he is enamored with life in general. this detail about his character is often the topic of angst in fic, but it's important to remember that baizhu is not incapable of love because of it. he is just... not someone who would put ultimate value on one life, because again, he believes all life has equal value.
yes, he does use qiqi for his own ends and research about immortality HOWEVER. however. he is not neglectful or abusive in any way towards her. he treats her well.
because she is a character closely related to baizhu, here's a little detail for the silly snake: changsheng canonically has no filter. she says whatever the fuck comes into her little brain. she's silly. i adore her. she is not bad though! her intentions are generally good.
baizhu doesn't like taking things from people for free. he has difficulty accepting gifts... which often come from the general population of liyue.
generally, what i find to be helpful when learning to write a new (playable) character is reading their voicelines and lore. reading voicelines can help you figure out any particular speech patterns or diction that characters are inclined towards using!

my self-indulgent hc for Brassius is that he commissions and supports other artists wholeheartedly and tips them extras without hesitation. I like to think he grew up sorta lower-middle class and only became rich and famous in his 30s so he completely understands the difficulties of baby artists or just straight up the struggles of starting out in this industry. fr he’s been through the combination of chronic illness + depression + stress in his early career days so he definitely understands???
Literally; Oh, what a lovely sunflora you painted earlier during your tour of the sunflora daycare, how much would you be willing to part it for? $50? Oh dear LORD no here is a $600 cheque plus a $200 tip, take it I will not accept refunds I’ll be hanging this painting up in my studio later.
Or some kid on poketwitter drew him as a sudowodo or sunkern for fun and the next thing you know theres 10k likes bc the offical account of the Artazon Gym has retweeted your doodle and had @ you with: “absolutely lovely work! do you take commissions? please send a dm request over so we may discuss the details!” (And then he commissions two fullbodies of him and hassel as pokemons)
