You know what? Fuck Batman and DC writers trying to gaslight me that what Jason does is wrong and dishonest and yara yara yara.
It's so fucking boring at this point.
And just blatantly wrong.
First of all, you cannot just say "oh but thats just bad you're a bad person >:c" at THIS POINT in comics. Because after pushing gray area morals and realism that y'all (writers) braggg SOO MUCH about it. Just going "murder bad >:c you bad >>>:ccc IT'S FUCKING STUPID."
For example. By the comics, (depending in what you believe) Tim Drake is a cheater. Is that what a good person does? In a black and white view. No, it is not therefore Tim is bad. Bruce is a fucking hypocrite who protect and revive a literal mass murder and doesn't hold up the same energy for his own children (HE RAISED) . Nightwing committed murder. Gordon constantly makes exceptions violating the law and his duties as a cop for random non affiliated vigilantes. Harley is irredeemable, because not only she kills and has killed before but also does it for fun. Talia, Damian, hell, even Cass are all murders in certain degrees. Even CATWOMAN wouldn't be saved . That being said. Does the comics considers them a horrible bad villainous people? >:((.
No, because they're fucking human beings and human beings fuck things up. Specially considering multiple circumstances they've been through: social, mental, developing, physical, environmental. It's realistic.
Yeah, so why when it comes for Jason. It's all fucking black and white.
But this is not a Jason apologist post, so if you hoping this take will be "Jason did nothing wrong" you going to be disappointed. Hold up a little because I'm gonna get to the point.
Listen here. I'm all for reparatory justice, honestly most of the time no matter how much it despises me, I do agree with Batman. But unlike him, I and maany people of the fandom, we just have- you know, common sense???
The problem with Batman, Nightwing (well hell why not) and Jason is that those three idiots lack of common sense. Their sense of justice seems like it comes from 14 year old boys. They're all are so trapped in their own traumas and struggles that they NEVER. EVER. Try to look outside their asses and view the villain-gotham-situation from a far away point of view.
Again I blame the writers. Because when they have good writing the generally do have braincells to analyze that.
You >>CANNOT<<. Hold the same energy you have with a mugger and with the fucking Joker. It doesn't make sense. It's just damn right stupid. It's cannon (and even true outside of comics) that the majority of people who turn to crime, are people who had nothing to begin with. Most of them are working class. Most of them are already born in the goddammit CRIME ALLEY. Most of them start before even turning into adults.
It's stated multiple times. That Gotham is a hard city to survive, it is filled with crime. Jason's first contact with crime and drugs and dealers was when he was younger than 10 years old. It's not just stupid, but also dishonest to pretend he was the only one, and all those muggers and henchmen are just terrible people that are there by choice because they're evil and need to be punished and killed. >:C
Some might be, but how the fuck would you know??
Because tale as old as time, if the system is as fucked as a gas leaking, shooting your way out of there isn't going to solve shit. You shoot this mugger today and next day it's going to be another one. There's a fucking reason why countries with high education and opportunities have less crime. There's a reason why gotham is corrupted and cursed. You cannot save everyone. Some people doesn't even want to be saved.
But shooting them is definitely doing more harm them good. Because they were just a mugger but their children might become a killer in ten years because you wanted to play god.
And at the same time. We cannot pretend that a man who went to prison million times. Who has been treated with 181838 who knows how many psychologists, therapists, psychiatrist. Who shows no remorse is as redeemable as someone who is taking cellphones and purses on street for money. Specially a man who tells you over and over again that they will kill, abuse, torture anyone (even people as close to you as possible) and everyone no matter how many times you arrest him and send him away. We cannot act like everybody is made of steal and it's not going to fucking snap at a person like that.
Let's not pretend a single man with flesh and bone have the right to decide what a serial killer fate should be just because he and the killer have a connection 🥺 And he can save him 🥺. And he have a code 😩. And what if he cannot hold himself anymore after 😳😳. Batman should have no authority on how people (people who were directly affected FOR LIFE by Joker) should react/respond to him, but YET DC keep trying to convince us he does.
Its pathetic.
Not killing is a thing. Constantly saving a murder is another.
And I go back to the central point because how Batman, Nightwing and Redhood react to different criminals it's honestly fully dependent on the writer and no one else. And oh boy, how many different interpretations we had over the years huh.
The point is. Both. BOTH. Of their point of view is flawed. You cannot hold your WHOLE belief system in a moral code with less than 10 words. I mean you can, but it won't last. Every situation is a situation. Every person is a person. There isn't no all right and all wrong all done recipe to deal with every fucking criminal existent. And the whole fact that two stubborn man hold into that belief systems with their damn life anyway is the most realistic thing of this setting.
"Jason is a murder and murder is wrong". Therefore "Jason is always wrong and Batman have the right to punish him >:c" Is one of the stupidest takes I've seen a comic book make in a while and I still don't know how they keep getting away with it.
Specially in how his punishments and mistreating coming from his own family are portrayed in the comics.
I don't give a fuck about what Batman think, and I'm goddam tired of Jason's whole arc is reapeating this whole dynamic over and over again.
You want to criticize Redhoods methods??? Then stop being a pussy and do it right addressing the real fucking problems about it.
Address how the people he killed before had a family and how they had to cope with their loss. How the fuck they survived and what they had to do to sustain themselves. Address how a single man cannot logistically always be certain of his informations and background checks, because not even an entire fucking justice system MADE FOR THAT can, and one day sooner or later Jason is going to be wrong. Address how when he plays double agent it doesn't undo the jobs he done for literally mob bosses. And how it doesn't matter he despites and hates himself and how self aware he is he still playing a part in this system as well as Batman does. As Bruce milionaire Wayne does.
And how at some point of his life he will have to confront the fact that. Yeah it was fucked. Yeah it was horrible he didn't deserve that. Fuck yeah Batman sucks. Nightwing sucks. They're all hypocrites. Fuck Joker. He didn't chose to be here. All of that.
But still, in real life, in this present moment. It is Jason fucking Todd who is chosing to do exactly what he's does.
Not Batman. Not Nightwing. Not Joker. Not pretender. Not his mom. Not his biologic father. Not his trauma. Him.
And no "Holly shit you become everything you hate because of the circumstances" and poetic irony regarding his biological dad is going to erase that.
Any day by now, eventually, it should be the consequences of his actions that would bite him in the ass. Not Batman.
Until then it doesn't matter what edgy angst violent discourse and or comic run regarding moral code and what the fuck Batman or the Batfam thinks of Jason's way of living and how does that affect him. I will not give a single fuck about it.
As I said before you have million reasons to criticize Jason life style but don't try to make me care bringing constantly the most stupid and lazy-writing one.

On the freckles + Geppetto (Spoilers below)
Geppetto saying "it looks like you inherited his personality instead of his memories" is very very suspicious, and he says "personality" with such disdain - if you were a father who loved their child, wouldn't you want them to retain their core persona of who they were, than remember exactly everything from your past? I don't know, is it just me, or doesn't it feel like it's more important? I know memories make us who we are, but it still really came across as a deliberate piece of dialogue to word
Tumblr media
Geppetto didn't want Carlo back, he specifically wants an obedient version of him, the rotting/preserved corpse body puppet is to show that Carlo was long gone. Remember that one of the most important decisions in the game is granting Sophia "her peace", which is her having the choice to end her own life. And then the nameless puppet is revealed, and it's as if Carlo is being kept alive against his own will (like as Simon does with Sophia). no wonder carlo didn't like him, the really disturbing thing is that nameless puppet still defies Geppetto in the end which suggests that it/(he??) is still somewhat conscious?? .. wat.
Another Character design I've noticed... and this is me making BIG leaps, by the way, I don't mean to make any statement on korean culture as a whole, but skin has a lot of symbolic meaning, and importance, in korean society. I know every country has stuff like this, but it seems really significant here considering this is a korean studio, ill try to get into why
P has very noticeable freckles on his skin, I can even say that they're hard to ignore (especially his right cheek), they're even visible in promotional material. and the irony is that he possesses these "flaws" and is more human-like despite being "artificial", he also has visible pores!! something completely natural, human, that stringent societal norms might deem as "imperfect"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Freckles can be seen as "imperfections" in korean culture (I mean I can only guess, and I suppose this negative perception is a little the same in the west as well?), they have this term called "glass skin" which is what is deemed as the "ideal": zero blemishes, really even tone, and often lighter in tone is seen as "beautiful", and there's a lot of pressure to be that way. It's a really pervasive idea that I don't think I am in the position to really talk about, and I don't mean to demean the culture, it's not like this is exclusive to korea/asia, I'm just mentioning it to explain this in the context of the game
Tumblr media
And then "Carlo" doesn't have ANY of these things. He has "PERFECT" skin, those freckles are just gone. I feel like this isn't just a mistake. it kind of gets a message across about Geppetto's real intentions in reviving him. I mean, it's possible that maybe it's more of a siblings situation, and Carlo simply just didn't have freckles? but if you think about it from a storytelling perspective, remember that Geppetto refers to him as "mischievous", an odd translation maybe, but everything else suggests that the real Carlo was actually deeply defiant of his father while he was alive, again I think it sends a message about Giuseppe re-creating his son but without the things he saw as "flaws" in his son that he didn't like
yeah... loving this game more and more by the day

I don’t understand why anime men can be drawn looking handsome while also looking normal and wearing normal clothes, but sososo often, anime women are drawn looking like their tits are going to pop out of their bras and/or they wear provocative outfits.
Do men (or male artists anyway) not care if a woman is beautiful if she isn’t being revealing? Do her facial features, the way she carries herself, her hair, etc. not matter so long as she’s not trying to act like a seductress?
Tumblr media
From my own experience with men I can only say one thing- they are liars. Or at least they like lying to themselves.
They will oftentimes say that they don't like women who reveal feminine features, but they do. Men like women and they like objectifying them. Bc if men are straight, logically, they're attracted to women. Bc woman's body is pretty and not just in a sexual sense. Sometimes it's just pretty for looking at; like art, nude modeling and act. Worshipped even. Woman's body is prettier than man's body in so many ways. But I think this beauty shouldn't be so heavily sexualized like it's often the case in the east. Japan has so much explicit content that they even have categorized shops at every corner, in public spaces. I don't know how Japanese women feel about this but statistics show that their birth rate is slowly declining. Besides poor economic situation, women don't feel respected or loved enough. And the feminism has risen in this part of the world as well.
Anyways, back to the point- I respect Gege for keeping his characters neat and the story heavily plot oriented without much fanservice (men are the fanservice lol). Gege also says that his parents are reading the manga so I suppose he doesn't rly want to feel like a disgrace lmao. I'm not sure if this was his marketing strategy to interest women into shōnen genre but it definitely worked, now jjk has become one of the most popular series of all time. And it's ok to have Mei Mei as one token representative of a "sexy woman" stereotype although I wouldn't rly call her sexy either. She's just a beautiful woman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What definitely helps the whole situation is Gege's taste in fashion. No male mangaka that I know ever paid attention to this one very important factor. Fashion is a type of expression, and it can tell a lot about the character themselves without incorporating their personality in words. With that said, jjk women have so much personality to them, it's fascinating.
Mei Mei and Mai could be considered sexy, Utahime is a traditional authoritative beauty, Nobara is very stylish and confident, Maki is a strong tomboy girl, Miwa and Momo are girly and cute, Ozawa is a shy girl, Shoko is your typical CEO woman, Yuki is a biker girl. And some of them have short or tied up hair which is nice bc it can be just as feminine as long hair. He even introduced women's insecurities like Ozawa being overweight and that Yuuji didn't mind bc he found her writing and table manners pretty. Momo's outlook on woman's prejudice in jujutsu world is also something important to adress. Yuuta is shown kissing Rika bc what they're having is true love and true love doesn't know shallow boundaries. Gege understands woman's struggle.
In an interview, Gege revealed that he has similar mindset to Megumi and that he doesn't want to sexualize women as much. The way he treats woman body is purely artistic. At least watching these panels didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regarding Mei Mei's and Ui Ui's relationship, yea it's a taboo. But I think that author didn't want to promote incest, rather, he wanted to show that Mei Mei is a woman with flaws. And flaws are something that makes a person interesting, together with their virtues. She also likes money. To the point that Gojo made fun of her by flipping a coin to summon her bc apparently, Mei Mei lacks self-respect.
In contrast to her, Utahime respects herself too much. That's why she's often hysterical and Gojo tells her that hysterics won't win men (Gojo is a real mansplainer huh).
Gojo is rude and so is Sukuna. But Miwa and Yorozu don't even notice a man's flaw if they're interested in him (Gege knows a woman's mind too well, which is funny). That's why he's asking ladies to vote for Nanami instead of Gojo in popularity poll (women should set aside shallow interests and concentrate on person's kind soul).
Unlike them, Shoko is aloof and rational bc she's too aware of fleetingness of life, especially in her line of work as a doctor. Sure, she can be friendly and smile a lot, but she doesn't want to form any strong relationships with anyone. This is the only way she can keep her sanity in check. After all, jujutsu is just a marathon where the finish line is a pile of friends' corpses. Something the younger generations are a bit immature to understand.
Nobara is a very stubborn girl, she sometimes comes off as too bossy or rude (Yuuji calls her a bitch lol). But it turns out this was only her defense mechanism with people she's unfamiliar with bc she didn't want to be underestimated for being a country girl of limited thoughts and experience. Bc Nobara is indeed a great girl with many talents.
Maki is a strong, independent woman but this doesn't mean that she refuses help and support from people around her. She likes guys who are stronger than her (and Yuuta comes into picture, besides, he also suggested that he wants to crush Zenin clan together which explains her liking to him). Panda noticed that and wanted to play a wingman. Although his boobs question (Maki's insecurity) was a bit inappropriate (but it got the point across), Yuuta's answer was very polite which made him more likeable in her eyes.
Yuki and Todo are similar bc they're nosy, they enjoy exploring different people's interests and judge them whether they're considered "a person of culture" (which adds to the series' comedic aspect). I love Haibara's answer bc he says "I like women who eat a lot" bc he knows that women who eat are happy and that a hungry woman is an angry woman.
Gege understands women so much that fans are contemplating whether Gege is actually a woman himself or not. It's nice to have a mangaka who's this mindful.

why do you hate elysia so much
oooohh I love when people ask me about that, and it's been a while without such question
*clears throat and unrolls a comically long scroll*
First thing is the way she treats other people's personal space or rather the way she invades it, especially Mei's. My own trauma regarding touching without consent/warning or mocking if I express my displeasure during such is the main factor why I want to throw this pink thing across the room. Yes, this is mainly about that godawful horn touching scene, which I luckily skipped on accident, but wasn't able to skip the dialogue after that with Raven mocking the whole situation. Describe the groans Mei was making during it however you want, but everyone told me Mei was clearly not pleased about having her horns touched. To me it was just her taking any means to get to the Deep End, and since she had only two people to choose from and she mentioned before that scene that there's no way she'd get Kalpas to help her, she had to ask Elysia for help and she happened to be really fucking obsessed about touching her damn horns, so she had to let her do so as a price for getting to the Deep End and Aponia. I consider it learned helplessness, if it can be considered so at all - Mei learnt that there's nothing she can do to be in any control of the situation she's in, so she just waits through shit helplessly in hope that it'll just happen and go away on its own. What got me pissed off even more is Elysia announcing through a fucking megaphone that she finally touched Mei's horns. It felt so humiliating. Imagine you're forced to use means which would not be pleasant for you and maybe even putting you in great discomfort and the person you did it with just publicly announces it happened as if it was something brief and both sides were fully comfortable.
Second, her idealisation. It's rather ironic that she's so perfect and flawless and whatnot while being labeled a herrscher of human:ego - human, that flaws are literally a part of nature of. She talks all the time how beautiful and great she is, and if she's to complain someone else they'll just get told that they're "almost as pretty as her". Nobody will ever convince me that she's not a Mary Sue, because she's clearly written like one and while yes Durandal was accused of being Mary Sue too "but people later just forgot about her" - people are not bothered by her ridiculous powers anymore because they were executed in a rather decent way which saved her character, unlike for Elysia who kept turning out worse and worse and more shallow with each line of text.
Third, her ridiculous large influence on the entire story and plot. She popped up out of fucking nowhere and suddenly changed the whole history of Honkai and retconned anything that could be retconned in plot. Herrschers used to be untamed representatives of Honkai and its destructive nature, Elysia shows up and suddenly it's actually that she gave them a chance to be human via her sacrifice and all herrschers from the very beginning of the current era just, idk, weren't evil and if they were it's because they just chose to and it wasn't actually that it was Honkai controlling them. Ever since Elysian Realm and Elysium Everlasting a bunch of people dead for ~50000 years aka Flamechasers are having a bit too damn much influence on whole main story, with Elysia in the lead. They ruined Mei's character with the whole ER bullshit and I don't even feel like she got any major development while being stuck there. Let alone that absolute butchery which is Herrscher of Origin, Mihoyo clearly have no idea for a show-not-tell way to express that she carries all that knowledge and memory of Flamechasers, so they just make her obsessed about them (like constantly talking about them during the so awaited reunion with Kiana and Bronya after what? few months? if not more). Mei was boiled down to Elysia stan, if not Elysia 2.0. And with the discomfort she experienced back in Elysian Realm, even if it didn't get her any major trauma... it just doesn't make sense.
TL;DR: I hate Elysia because she often invades other characters' personal space which I'm very sensitive to, she's a shallowly written Mary Sue who also has ridiculously large influence on the main story for a side character.

You

Jin
Lol are you STILL in your PJs?
You
Uhh in a manner of speaking
Jin blinked at his phone, glad that you weren't there to laugh at the way his ears were blazing. He had almost forgotten that little tidbit you had casually thrown out in the group chat so long ago. He tried not to dwell on your sleeping attire - or lack thereof - but it was fruitless. Were you wearing a shirt? Or just underwear? Or… nothing at all? While texting him?
Jin
Oh
Oh fuck, he was getting a boner and he was supposed to go to your room to help you pick out dinner clothes for tonight. You room, where you were currently - no no no don't think about her naked in her room. He wasn't a hormonal teenager anymore, why couldn't he control these intrusive thoughts?
Well, he knew why. The conversation with his housemates had been necessary, but now he couldn't stop hoping that the dreamy scenarios he had of you by his side would become a reality. And yet he was conflicted - he liked to think that he was a big enough person to be satisfied if you felt the same way he did, whether the others were involved or not. But he couldn't tell if he would really be fine with it in reality.
He had never really been a jealous person, but it was hard to predict how his feelings would go in that type of situation. On the other hand, if you did end up with only him, wouldn't he then feel guilty for causing his best friends pain? At the same time, it also seemed pointless to ponder too long on these theoretical questions, since he had no way of knowing how he would react until something actually happened.
He acted confident and nonchalant around the others - in a way he felt like he had to, being the oldest. But this situation had a part of him terrified. While he normally didn't have a problem asking people out, this was you, a real, flawed, wonderful person who had somehow become the girl of his dreams. And at the end of the day it wouldn't just affect the two of you, but a whole slew of the people he cared most about in the world.
Still, he knew it had to be done. They couldn't live in this state of limbo forever, no matter how cozily domestic everything currently felt. If you didn't feel the same way, you would be kind about it (which was almost worse, because if you were the type to be cold then none of them would like you this much). Things would eventually return to some semblance of normality. Though it could mean the potential loss of your teasing banter and gentle touches, since you would probably feel uncomfortable continuing to do so.
Jin's phone dinged, making him realize he had just been standing, lost in thought, for the last several minutes.
Oops. Well, at least his dick had calmed down. He sighed. One way or another, tonight was going to be an experience.
You
You coming?
Hellooooooooooo
~~~~~
"[Y/n]! It's so wonderful to finally see you again!"
Gee, it's great to see you too mom," grumbled Jin, crossing his arms and jutting his plump bottom lip out into a horribly cute pout. You were torn between the desire to kiss it and strangle him for making it so hard to control yourself. Instead of either option you smiled at his mother, who had come to greet the two of you at the door. She smiled back, also ignoring her son, and pulled you into a hug.
"Come in, come in," she urged, stepping aside so you could enter the impressive foyer.
"Wow, it's even lovelier inside than outside," you said in awe, hoping you didn't look like a complete bumpkin as you gaped at the lush interior. You would have felt like an out-of-place peasant had Jin not taken that moment to set his hands reassuringly on your shoulders.
"That's because they spent an unnecessary amount of money contracting an interior designer and an interior decorator," he quipped. You nodded, pretending you totally knew there was a difference between the two.
His mother led the two of you to the sitting room - you weren't actually sure what differentiated that from a living room, either - where Jin's father was lounging with a tumbler of what was probably some very expensive whiskey. As soon as you entered the room, he grinned and stood up to greet the two of you.
"[Y/n], we're so happy you were able to come," he said, giving you a quick one-armed hug before doing the same for Jin. He then made his way to a gorgeous, well-stocked bar-cart complete with a swanky ice bucket and tongs, and asked if either of you wanted anything to drink.
"Could I try what you're having?" you asked. You weren't normally one to drink liquor without a mixer, but that was more because you were a cheap college student who wasn't going to spend money on something expensive. You wanted to know what something actually nice tasted like. Jin echoed your preference and his father complied, pulling a beautiful crystal decanter from the cart.
"Ice?" he asked, and you shook your head, curious about the unaltered flavor. He raised his eyebrows and flashed a smile at his son.
"She might be a better whiskey drinker than you," he joked as he put ice in only one of the glasses. Jin rolled his eyes good-naturedly before directing you to sit next to him on a plush couch.
When his father came over with your drinks, you took a cautious sniff, expecting harsh fumes. Instead you were met by a more mellow, almost sweet aroma. It still burned your nose a little, but it was actually pleasant. The amber liquid seemed to glow in the light of the room, and when you took a tentative sip you gasped at how smooth it tasted.
"Wow," you breathed, stunned. So this was why people got so snobby and annoying about fancy alcohol. A small noise from Jin caught your attention and you turned to see him smiling at you.
"You're so cute," he teased. You couldn't tell if the heat you felt rising in your cheeks was from the whiskey or the unabashed fondness in his gaze. He shouldn't have been allowed to smile at you like that.
"Ah, young love."
That brought you back to your senses and you snapped your gaze towards his mother, who was whispering to her husband with a grin that was bordering on a smirk. Embarrassed by how obvious you were being, you took another sip of whiskey, then almost spilled it onto the dress you were wearing when Jin set his hand lightly on your knee. The fucker didn't even look at you when he did so, instead just laughing and redirecting the topic to summer plans.
You found it increasingly difficult to concentrate with his large, warm hand on your bare skin, but you did your best to look attentive and pay attention as his parents told you about the trip to Paris they planned to take soon. And then his thumb began tracing soft circles that left goosebumps in their wake and you knew you were in trouble.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but could I use the restroom?" you asked, desperate to escape that innocent yet horribly tantalizing touch.
"Oh! Of course!" Thank god, freedom.
"Jin, could you show her the way?" Fuck.
"Of course."
Your oh-so-loving not-boyfriend stood up first and gallantly held out his hand to help you up. Suppressing a hysterical laugh, you took it and let him lead you through the house, which was more like a manor. Because you couldn't leave well enough alone, you opened your big stupid mouth.
"Why were you doing that?"
"Doing what?" He looked confused, and you wanted to die at the realization that he hadn't even been consciously trying to fluster you.
"I… er… nevermind," you stuttered. He stopped walking and turned to face you completely, and you cursed yourself for being so unconvincing.
"Is everything alright?" he asked, concern shining in those gorgeous eyes. He was still holding your hand, and your heart began to speed up.
"Youputyourhandonmyknee," the words spilled out and you cringed at how juvenile you sounded. Couples did that kind of thing all the time, and you couldn't handle it because you were an idiot.
Jin's eyes widened and he let go of your hand, looking distraught.
"Oh God, I'm sorry, was that crossing a line? I just felt so comfortable that I didn't even think about it."
He looked genuinely ashamed, which in turn made you feel horrible because the problem wasn't that he had crossed a line. It was that your evil brain wanted him to. The longer he had innocently stroked your skin, the harder it had become not to imagine that hand inching its way further up. Ugh, he was about to hate you for this, but anything was better than being the cause of the distress on his face.
"That's not it, exactly."
"Is this too much for you? I'm sorry if I pushed you into seeing my parents again, I'm sure it can't be easy pretending to like me - "
"Oh my god," you groaned, cutting him off and covering your face with your hands. "Please shut up and stop being sweet for a second, Jin."
You watched his face go confused (and slightly offended), and he cocked his head to the side. Why did he have to be so perfect? Fuck. Well.
"It was just… really distracting…" you said through gritted teeth, hoping you wouldn't have to elaborate. Unfortunately the world hated you, because your beautiful not-boyfriend was looking at you expectantly, still bewildered. You closed your eyes so you wouldn't have to see his reaction, and let the life-ruining words come out.
"I'm not pretending to like you."
You waited in agonizing silence for his response. When none came, you opened your eyes to see him staring at you, lips slightly parted in shock. Your heart sank. He was probably speechless at the way you had completely broken his trust. You looked down at your feet, ashamed to realize your eyes were starting to burn.
"I'm sorry," you whispered. "I didn't mean to take advantage of the situation."
A hand cupped your chin and forced you to meet his gaze. His eyes were wide, with an almost wild light shining from them.
"You - you like me?" he asked, a tightness you'd never heard before permeating his voice. You gave a tiny nod, sure that if you opened your mouth you wouldn't be able to keep your tears at bay.
"As in, romantically?" You gave another nod, brows knitting slightly. What exactly was so hard to grasp about -
His lips descended on yours, effectively shutting your brain up. Before you could fully register what was happening, he pulled back, ears bright pink.
"Um," he started, but by then your shock had worn off. You grabbed his shirt, dragging him back towards you. Your mind was still reeling and you weren't exactly sure what was happening, but fuck if you were going to let that be how your first kiss with him ended.
Jin's lips were just as soft and full as you had imagined, and he gave a very satisfying little shiver when you nipped his bottom lip. He brought one hand to thread through your hair, angling your head for better access, and the other to your lower back, bringing you flush against him.
You gave a contented sigh at the way his warm body pressed against yours, and he took the opportunity to trace the sound with his tongue. Not to be outdone, you met it with your own, feeling the blood in your veins simmer more and more with each swipe. Your hands left his shirt to tangle into his hair, pulling him impossibly closer, and the hand on your back began to creep lower.
"And you're sure you don't want the guest room?"
The two of you sprang apart and you stared wide-eyed at his mother. Oh god, she had literally just caught the two of you making out like teenagers.
"Mom, uh -"
"Dinner's ready," she said, cutting off Jin's squeaky attempt at an explanation and looking like she was trying very hard not to laugh. "Jin, I thought we taught you to save dessert for last."
You both spluttered at the innuendo, and she gave you a wink that made your face burn even hotter before prancing - prancing! - away and out of sight, leaving the two of you in utter silence.
"I-" the two of you began at once, then stopped.
"Sorry, go ahead," you both said, again at the same. You finally made eye contact then burst out laughing, and the awkwardness dissipated.
"So… you like me?" His eyes were sparkling and he was wearing a big, goofy smile. He was so fucking pretty.
"I think we established that," you confirmed dryly, also unable to keep the grin off your own face. "I'm assuming you feel the same?"
"Nah," he said nonchalantly, his lips twitching even wider. You scoffed and punched him lightly in the chest, and he grabbed your hand and brushed his lips against your knuckles.
"Of course I do," he said softly, dropping his teasing and gazing at you earnestly. The look in his eyes turned your knees into jelly, and it was all you could do to pull him back down for another kiss.
~~~~~
The dinner went by smoothly despite the earlier… indiscretion. Besides some veiled teasing, Jin's mother thankfully didn't bring up the event. By the end of the night, though, your giddiness had faded into apprehension. It was incredible that Jin appeared to be just as enamored as you were, but it didn't remove the little issue of your still existing feelings for your other friends. His best friends.
You managed to keep your composure through goodbyes with his parents, but when you buckled into the passenger's seat of Jin's car, you felt the full weight of apprehension settle into you. You couldn't do this to him.
Your eyes burned at the thought of throwing away this happiness so quickly, and a sniffle forced its way out of you. Jin immediately took your hand, eyes wide.
"What's wrong?" He asked frantically, his consideration making it even harder for you to maintain your composure.
"I-I have to tell you something," you managed to choke out, and before he could ask what you meant, you let it all spill out. That you didn't just have feelings for him, but every single one of your roommates. You took multiple deep breaths, trying to calm down. God, what must he think of you now?
"Huh, hearing that actually didn't bother me as much as I thought it would."
Your head whipped to look at him, and instead of looking angry or disgusted, he just looked thoughtful. And maybe a little relieved, which made zero sense.
"Uh, what?" The weak question escaped your lips before you could help it, and Jin laughed. The look he gave you was gentle, and his hand moved to stroke your cheek. What the fuck was happening?
"I'm not upset," he assured you, and astoundingly there was complete sincerity in his gaze. "I'm actually fine with it."
"What do you mean?" You asked, and he gave you a reassuring smile.
"I mean, I still want to try this. With you."
This had to be a prank. You half expected one of those douchey prank Youtubers to pop out of the trunk and yell "surprise!" When nothing of the sort occurred, you were forced to accept the fact that this was actually happening. Sensing your confusion, he continued.
"I don't mind if something develops with any of them," he explained. "As long as you're honest with me about it. And considering this conversation right now that's not really something I'm worried about."
You stared at him with your jaw in your lap as you processed this information. Uncertainty flashed across his face at your silence.
"Unless I'm getting ahead of myself? If you don't want - "
"How are you so amazing?" You blurted, cutting him off. His shoulders relaxed and he laughed again.
"I could ask you the same," he responded shamelessly, making your heart pound. Could this really be happening? Was this real life?
"Sooooo?" He looked at you hopefully, and you finally felt a smile take over your face.
"Yes, fucking yes," you breathed, and his grin was everything that was perfect in the world.
"Oh thank God," he sighed, and crashed his lips back down onto yours.

❝ just between us, did the love affair maim you too? ❞
❝ when the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway. ❞
❝ death doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints. ❞

❝ i desire the things that will destroy me in the end. ❞
❝ i have tried loving less but that hurts just the same. ❞
❝ wanting was enough. for me, it was enough to live for the hope of it all. ❞
❝ the only heaven i'll be sent to is when i'm alone with you. ❞
❝ i could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; i would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. i would know him in death, at the end of the world. ❞
❝ these violent delights have violent ends. ❞
❝ we love with claws and teeth and the blood is just proof of how much. it's feral. and it's relentless. ❞

❝ good for you, you're doing great out there without me. god, i wish that I could do that. ❞
❝ if i could hold you for a minute, darling, i'd go through it again. ❞
❝ i don't like that anyone would die to feel your touch. ❞
❝ i don't like that falling feels like flying 'til the bone crush. ❞
❝ and logically, you're the last thing i should have on my mind, but i want you there sometimes. ❞

finished charlotte brontë's villette today. some more thoughts to add to the collection... (SPOILERS AHEAD!)
- literally WHAT???
- two whole chapters dedicated to a bad drug trip. i wasn't joking in my last villette post when i said it had to take the trophy for weirdest brontë novel ever (starting shirley after this, but just based on the plot synopsis alone i already know it doesn't come close)
- there are SO many parallels between this novel and jane eyre it's truly insane - to the point where it truly feels like a retelling of the jane eyre - with all the fairy tale themes (quite literally acknowledged in the book) but without jane eyre's fairy tale ending
- the main character's love interest, paul emmanuel, is literally charlotte saying: "what if i took mr. rochester, erased all of his sex appeal, and made him way worse in general? okay, that backfired, shit, shit... wait, but then what if i try to make him better later on? okay, this is going well, this is going w— ah, shit, lucy doesn't need him anyway, let's just have him disappear and people can think whatever the fuck they want. i don't really care what they think."
- and apparently charlotte tried to kill him off in the end but her dad made her leave it up to interpretation thinking it wouldn't sell as well if not... so anyway what i'm saying is that this book is for the mr. rochester haters
- i don't even really hate paul but i didn't really feel for his loss either, even though i did learn to tolerate him and like him maybe a little toward the end... but in the main, his character flaws were so striking, and his lack of chemistry with lucy compared to jane/rochester for example, is really to blame for that
- i feel like lucy may be incapable of lasting love and/or she is truly suffering from comphet or gender troubles
- i feel like she had way more chemistry with john whether platonically or romantically. honestly he was one of the most entertaining characters because he felt very real.
- i wonder if villette (based on their frienemy situation) had repressed feelings for ginevra or vice versa because 1) the theatre performance where lucy had to act as ginevra's male lover and fell really really into the role, 2) the fact that they keep up a correspondence, 3) when lucy said ginevra would lean on her like she was her male suitor & it made her uncomfortable, 4) complimenting her beauty & defending her to john despite her dislike of her (this could just be lucy's goodness) 5) lucy's comment to polly where she said she could never love a man OR a woman "in that way you're referring to" (tightly paraphrasing here), 6) lucy analyzing the artwork of naked women & then defending herself to paul, 7) lucy admiring/idolizing madame beck who is described as being masculine, 8) probably many other things i've forgotten
- after reading theories about charlotte and ellen nussy i'm feeling vindicated in my discovery of the queer themes - the novel can be read as being very comphetish (comphet = compulsive heterosexuality; for those of you who may not know, this term was coined by writer/theorist adrienne rich to describe the ways in which lgbt people [she focuses on women] are brainwashed to think they're straight, & the weird symptoms this can cause!)
- i read a spoiler about characters being not who you think they are initially, and so i knew john was dr. bretton, BUT I MISTAKENLY THOUGHT POLLY WAS GINEVRA! and in my last post i made a reference about seeing a lot of adèle varens in "the french girl of the story" but really i see a little bit of adèle in both ginevra and polly - to clarify this point. but i also see how the fairy references re: polly parallel jane - that's about where their comparison ends though.
- anyway the nun plot was interesting but kind of underwhelming. also which we got more time with ginevra's rakish beau.
- might make a whole post just on the comparisons between paul/rochester & paul/lucy & rochester/jane... so many... damn...

Ahhh ok I’m excited. Can I ask what your inspirations for Penelope and Leo were?
Ooh! They're some of my older ocs so this might get a little long but lemme see what I can put together.
Leo was one of the first characters I came up with in this whole extended world thing I've got going on. Funny enough this entire thing started as non-serious kinda jokey "I should come up with a dating sim concept and create all the different characters you could date." Leo predates my other characters even further by being a character in one of my earlier concept groups before I scrapped that, took him, and decided on a whole dating sim around the concept of dating demons in hell lol.
It's funny to think back on bc it rlly all did start as something not that serious. I was thinking about different dating sim archetypal character traits with the five characters I was creating, and when I got to Leo I pulled from various tropes.
He was the goofy jokey himbo type, kinda stupid but also more down to earth. But then it’d be a twist where, despite seeming straight forward, you'd get into his tragic sad backstory and a deeper side of his character would be revealed.
To be completely honest, while not the only inspiration or example, at the time mystic messenger was still mildly relevant in the dating sim world. So, while they couldn't be MORE different, 707 kind of was what made me want to go for creating a "Funny silly guy who's actually got some sad stuff going on." character sdfghj.
He was made to be a foppish Prince Charming that was cursed to become a demon. His backstory was supposed to be storybook fairytale stuff, resulting in a beauty and the beast sort of situation. It was tragic but not as fleshed out.
It stayed that way for a while but eventually when I started getting more serious and sharing this stuff with Thea, I began to go through and develop a lot of my different characters backstories. Lightly moving away from the dating sim elements to expand the broader world.
This is where Penelope would come in (and not long after Giselle and Caspian would follow hehe @dapper-comedy) I ended up really ironing out his story. I wanted to make Leo more sympathetic while still being at fault. Straying from prince charming to a more general, almost arthurian, hero prince type. Less arrogant, more well meaning, but still ultimately flawed in his desire to be an "ideal" prince.
Penelope on the other hand used to play a much smaller role in the story! Initially the story simply went that Leo was cursed by a witch as retribution for a wrong he committed, the curse stipulated that if his loved ones shunned his demonic form, then he’d stay a demon. And when he showed up as a demon, his fiancé rejected him.
But as I started going back, I thought it was a bit unfair to his fiancé that she existed more as a plot device for his initial story. So I went about giving her more complex motivations/wants and fears/etc and Penelope was born! She’s inspired by my wholly self indulgent desire to make female characters who are allowed to be awful and make horrible mistakes, while also being not entirely unjustified. (Penelope takes up so much brain real estate nowadays, it's almost surprising that I came up with Leo first sdfghj)
It feels pretentious to say but the groundwork being inspired by storybook fairy tales led the overall feeling to be inspired by classic tragedies. It all really came together when Caspian and Giselle came into the picture, leading to an overarching story of these four young friends not realizing the joy of their youth together until they slowly lose not just that youth, but each other.

Do you have any particular thoughts about the jiang siblings trio and their dynamics?
Oh my goodness do I EVER. Well, when you say 'particular thoughts' I hope you weren't expecting anything resembling like… well-organized, properly structured thoughts, because my brain is mostly mush and there's not much of that around here. But boy do I ever have a LOT of very strong feelings about them that I am bad at articulating but I'm going to let them splorch out in an incoherent jumble now!!!
What I love about these three is how much they love each other… and how much that not only doesn't prevent their tragedy, it fuels it. Love is the kindling and the kerosene on that fire. It's intense, as destructive as it is beautiful in equal measure. Too close and too far at the same time, a double-edged sword that shreds them all to bits again and again, hurting themselves and each other, and all three of them end up doing something like dying for it at some point.
All of their lives would've been so much easier if they didn't care so damn much. But they hold on anyway.
Their relationships end up as the background that casts their strengths and flaws in stark relief in a way that's just so deliciously compelling to me!
From the beginning, there's always this constant undercurrent of something fraught and ambiguous between them. They're always scrambling to pull each other close while they're being pulled farther and farther apart. First by gossip and rumors and the terrible relationship between Madam Yu and Jiang Fengmian, then later by their own priorities and duties and obligations.
Their relationships are so difficult to define because it's equally important the ways they aren't siblings as the way they are. The distance is as painfully palpable at points as the bonds they share. That's what makes it so interesting and heartbreaking for me. It's easier to cast Jiang Yanli as the older sister who unquestioningly views Wei Wuxian as her little brother. But I think when it comes to Jiang Cheng it's a lot more complicated.
Between the two of them there's always this lingering question of What am I to you? A friend, a loyal right-hand man, a brother, a half of the twin prides, a hated enemy? Feral devotion or bitter resentment? Something more, something less? Everything or nothing at all?
With the way things play out, with all the things each of them doesn't know, they're both left feeling like the other abandoned them first. From Wei Wuxian believing that Jiang Cheng left him to go back to Lotus Pier alone to retrieve his parent's bodies, to Jiang Cheng's desperate and furious "if you insist on protecting them, I won't be able to protect you!".
But even through all that, there's an unquestioning faith in Wei Wuxian - too much, sometimes. When Wei Wuxian tells him they'll be the Twin Prides of Yunmeng, he believes him. When Wei Wuxian tells him to go up that mountain blindfolded, he does it. When Wei Wuxian tells him that he can control the ghost path, that everything will be fine, he believes him. Right up until he can't. Right up until the moment that faith shatters, when he's got his injured sister bleeding in his arms and Wei Wuxian finally admits he can't control it.
And yet, despite it all - perhaps in spite of himself - Jiang Cheng just can't stop loving him, and he hates it. At the Second Siege, he's prepared to do something that looks an awful lot like sacrificing himself for him again (even if it doesn't actually end up happening), and again at Guanyin Temple he didn't hesitate to take a sword through the chest for him (and ugh, Lan Wangji), even if wasn't actually necessary and therefore mostly embarrassing. But hey, it's the thought that counts, right?
Anyway I might add more thoughts later because truly there is just SO MUCH and I didn't even scratch the surface with Yanli even a little bit, and I got through that whole thing without even really digging into the golden core situation either, or the way the situation with the Jiang parents affected them all… and so really this isn't even the preamble of how many feelings I have about these three! (Thanks for the ask btw!)

I mentioned in one of my first posts for the NPC AU that Blossoming ✿ Melodies has a floral theme going on.
I decided to assign each girl a flower and one to represent the group as a whole.
Mai - Purple Hyacinth
Purple hyacinths represent sorrow and seeking forgiveness. I specifically chose this flower for Mai to represent how she feels about causing Haruka to lose her job and thus her dream. While she has apologized, and was forgiven, she still holds a lot of regret about the situation. And it's going to be a while before she can forgive herself.
Tumblr media
Nanami - Blue Star
Blue stars represent perseverance, persistence, and strength. Out of the four of them, Nanami is the one who's always pushing the others to continue. She knows the idol business can be tough and unfair, but she isn't one to back down, even when told to. She's doing everything she can to make sure this group works. That through ups and downs they can get better and better, and really send their message of always finding happiness and dreams to people.
Tumblr media
Ayaka - Orange Daisy
Orange daisies represent happiness, friendship, and warmth. Ayaka is the one in the unit to easily make friends. She wants to see the best in life and not live with regret. She wants to be happy and is considered to be the idol with the warmest personality. She's empathetic, kind, friendly, and very social. Because of this she's usually the one to take charge of fan meetings and taking charge of their social media.
Tumblr media
Yuina - White Chrysanthemum
While white chrysanthemums can represent grief and mourning, the meaning I went for Yuina is: honesty and loyalty. Prior to joining Blossoming ✿ Melodies Yuina struggled with those two traits about herself. Often times they clashed, times where she wanted to be honest went against her loyalty to friends/family. It's only after she joins Blossoming ✿ Melodies that she begins to work on both, priding herself on not holding back how she feels, while also maintaining a strong loyalty to the group and her own feelings.
Tumblr media
Miku - Cherry Blossoms
As I said, Sakura Miku is Blossoming ✿ Melodies' Miku, so naturally she has cherry blossoms.
The meanings I chose to use for cherry blossoms are renewal and new beginnings. Miku is helping these girls start something new. For some of them it's a restart, for others it's completely new. She's here to help them blossom like spring is always around the corner. This group is Miku's bouquet and she and Rin are going to ensure it's beautiful.
Tumblr media
Rin - Yellow Daffodils
Daffodils represent positivity (their bright, vibrant, yellow/white color), joy, and an appreciation for being alive.
Rin is very much an optimist in this Sekai, always cheerful and wanting to spread her joy to others. She's the one the girls go to whenever they need to be cheered up. Where Miku is helping the girls blossom, Rin is helping them become brighter and full of life.
Again, these girls are hers and Miku's bouquet and they want to make it beautiful, flaws and all.
Tumblr media
Blossoming ✿ Melodies - Columbine
After thinking it through and looking at different flowers, I chose Blossoming ✿ Melodies' flower to be the Columbine, which represents aspiration, courage, endurance, and taking risks.
I see Blossoming ✿ Melodies as a group trying hard to become an idol group that can truly reach their audience and isn't just following a script. They're going to take risks, they're going to have to endure challenges and face them head on. They all want to have this courage and share it with others. They each have something they want to accomplish (Mai wants to forgive herself, Yuina wants to be loyal while still being honest, Nanami wants everyone to persevere, and Ayaka wants to spread happiness).

YAO HAIYIN , tw dysfunctional families, murder, etc. etc.
His mother was the leader of a decently sized, newly created sect, until she married his father. He was too young to know the details, and the elders, siding with his father, rarely talked about it - but his father took the sect over by force - using his safety as leverage to keep his mother in check. He did not understand, obviously, when he was younger. Mostly, he was just sad that he didn't get to see his mother very often and was always kept away from "home" for one reason or another.
As a young person, he seems unassuming, perhaps too soft. Not particularly soft-spoken, but generally pleasant and easy to talk to. Musically and artistically inclined, avid reader, eager student, lover of beautiful people and things. Always seems to say and do what's needed and wanted of him no matter which person he is facing - a skill, almost, to morph into the way and say with the voice of only what the other person wants to see and hear, no matter his true feelings. A survival mechanism, perhaps, living under his father's rule..
He got to see his mother only very rarely, a few times a year at most. Even so, he loved her, and was very sad when she was sad, and despite putting on a brave face for their meetings, she was sad all the time. As he grew older and older, he saw and heard things that allowed him to understand the situation and piece everything together. He promised his mother and himself that he would help her escape. However, his mother eventually wasted away in captivity before that could happen, leaving his father entirely in charge. Angry and grieving, he spends years pulling together plans to overthrow his father.
He succeeds. He overthrows his father and the sect's elders that stood with him. They're not all dead, in the aftermath, of course - but the ones that are alive probably wish they were dead. Haiyin succeeds his mother (he has wiped his father from the sect's inner documentations), at an incredibly young age. In the years following his succession, he closes the doors of the sect to the outside world entirely and spends his time clearing out any of his father's remaining forces. He rules with a just but iron hand - the paranoia of what happened during his childhood bleeding into his reasoning and the way he runs things.
Years later, he has relaxed. Once again he begins engaging with others in the cultivation community. In the face of his pleasantness and his unique ability to cater to other people's expectations of a friend-shaped being - most people have forgotten his bloody origins. They have forgotten that though it was in the name of revenge for his mother, he has done terrible things. Despite his jovial and friendly outward presentation - his life seems fairly empty and he is tired after taking over the burden of revenge and a sect so young. Now he roams around in disguise, and seeks an heir so that he might retire early from his position.
He is definitely A Gender (tm), but...he plays fast and loose with how he feels and pronouns. For example, he just let me write a whole bio using he/him. There are times when Haiyin specifically prefers she/her (Haiyin makes it pretty obvious when Haiyin is there) and a few times Haiyin will go for they/them. In general, pronouns don't matter to him too much. He will take any and all of them.
Tumblr media
JIN SI (Jin Miaoshu), TW alcohol, dysfunctional family, sexism, etc. etc.
If Jin Z.ixun is the unpleasant (tm) cousin, Jin Si...is the one that gives you 99 headaches. Raised like a little princess - it wasn't too long before she figured out that she was being raised like a lamb for slaughter, too. Her father was not a particularly good man, and as the eldest and legitimate daughter of an inner family member in a family that - likely has some flawed teaching and opinions about the value of daughters, her destiny was mapped out early - sold to the highest bidder in a political marriage.
Horribly rebellious since the realization that the life she is living isn't...entirely right. Maybe it's attention seeking, maybe she's just tired - as soon as she's old enough / can manage it she hops on a sword straight for the nearby (and then slowly, further away) towns around L.anling. There, she lives - well, a party life. Drinking, brawling, gambling on occasion, learning dances from top performers at the local entertainment district - everything a "polite young lady of sophisticated and elegant disposition" ought not do. Accidentally or maybe a little bit on purpose, she aims to push her limits and her parents' limits every time. People don't usually question her - she's pretty, looks obviously like she has a ridiculous amount of money to spend, and is very generous (read: careless) a customer. If she ends up damaging the property, it'll be covered in full and twice over before she leaves. She really is the “black sheep” of the family.
Her parents somehow seem to think giving her more pocket money is going to make her make less trouble - it just gives her more funds for the trouble. She’s constantly about to kill jet father with an aneurysm and she’s a little bit proud of that.
Very...bratty, in her own element. Aware of her privilege and entirely going to use it / play it up. Uncooperative, lazy, picky, frivolous, short temper to boot - enjoys rolling her eyes and misusing her face, especially around her relatives and other cultivation world big shots. And any problem that can be solved with money is no problem. Doesn’t go out of her way to be unkind though. Snappy and sometimes sharp, escalates when the other person escalates - but quick to panic and backpedal when it becomes evident feelings have really been hurt.
Almost "more trouble than she's worth" in the words of her father - except after every night of all night drinking, brawls, and god knows what else she gets up to, she drags herself back in time the next morning to sit for whatever lesson, gathering, or formal affair she needs to sit in on.
(It's the futility of it all. The idea that her life will amount to nothing other than her fate and that her parents see her as little more than an item of value to trade. She says, perhaps a little wickedly - to let it rot. As long as she's "perfect" for the camera, so to speak - who cares what she does in her off time?)
Her cultivation is decent, though. Probably because she first needed it to sneak out of the wards they started placing around her rooms when they figurd out she was sneaking out at night, and then because she got into - way too many fights. She's by no means brilliant but she can carry a fight on her own. If she put her mind to it she might be brilliant - but she says "what's the point" anyway. Sleeps through most of her classes. Reads only what she wants to read and studies only what she wants to study.

I wanted to thank you for talking abt the whole house of dragons situation bc like I couldn’t believe they made that show??? Like not only did someone write that but people get to profit off of it? :/ it just like why are you celebrating some of the most painful things a person can go through, it just makes me devastated
Just putting my ghoughts underneath the readmore for others' comfort. Tw for discussions of incest, grooming, & pedophilia below.
I think the show was wholly unnecessary & was stupid to launch after they just totally gave up on GOT to begin with (like... dont let your wagon get in frot of your horse). I haven't watched the show or even really GOT but from what I understand I don't think GRRM necessarily intends to romantisize things like incest, but uses it to show human flaws & how it affects people (or at least that's what he's trying to go for), but the rate at which he succeeds in that is debatable & his writing generally & overall is DEFINITELY up for debate (I talk about his racist writing pretty frequently). A lot of his writing is also based on real world history, & royal incest happens to be another thing he included. Unfortunately.
I think the worst thing with this is how the Targaryens are all inbred (and for creepy eugenics reasons too) but they're also all supposedly known for being outstandingly beautiful & perfect (minus the mental health issues) to the point that a 13 year old is declared the most beautiful woman in the world (which is. Weird. That's a kid), versus in the real world where inbreeding causes a lot of disabilities & physical problems as well as mental ones. Like for a book hailed for being "historically accurate" and "realistic" you'd think he'd put that in, but he didn't. I don't think he intends to romantisize it, but it's in the same way I don't think he intends to be racist in his writing, but he is. And I don't think he does it out of malice, but it's out of him being a White man who doesn't want to put in effort to see why what he's written is offensive because its "fantasy".
But all of this wouldn't be as bad if the fans (see: proshitters) didn't make it worse by romantisizing it themselves. From what I've seen other people say, the new show is ultimately about all these characters who are immoral and act selfishly & that this is their downfall; a character like the creepy uncle Daemon didnt marry his niece because he was "in love" with her or that their relationship was "cute", it's because he was creepy & wanted power so he started grooming her at a young age to get that, & the showrunners THEMSELVES have told us this. & the Targaryen incest featured in the show is part of the wider narrative of the Targaryens being assholes. But the fans are making it out to be like this is "hot" and that seeing a 16 year old be sexually pursued by her 30+ year old uncle is "the female gaze" (fucking BARF). I saw a blazed post of an incestuous "character x reader" GOT fic on my dash. I don't understand.
So tl;dr there's already a lot of problems with GOT going on in the first place, but the fans have made it exponentially worse and I'm worried for how that'll influence things in the future.

sabé finally got the arc that she deserves <3
honestly, i always found ... kinda weird the way EKJ portrayed sabé in the books. yeah there's great things of but sabé was so controlling and boring (IN RESUME BUT I REALLY HAVE THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WRONG WAY EKJ MADE HER). + and people confuse this a lot with loyalty, when in fact, in my opinion, it's a romanticization of sabé's situation. and i still have the same point of view in others medias with her at certain points, but vader comics did such a good job with her!!
EKJ has always portrayed the issue of knowing not only having a loyalty to padmé but to the queen amidala - consequently, she had a loyalty to being the queen's shadow - and EKJ never seemed to put an end to it. it's very beautiful the devotion that the handmaids in general have for padmé, but in the representations of the books tsabin always seemed to be emotionally dependent (not literally, but i dont know how to describe it with words tbh! in general i find it quite suffocating) on the idea of not being a tsabin but a sabé. it always bothered me a lot because it never gave space for sabé to seek her independence WITHOUT padmé (when there were several moments where she could do that, and that was a factor that made me dislike the character a lot. it seems that the author went from being a small plot of the character to being her only personality trait... AND ANNOYS ME SM THAT THE FANS DO THE SAME THING AAHH), as if her whole life was padmé and i'm sorry but this is not about a childhood crush - it's pretty pointless overall , even more when ppl are always thinking that they're the same person IDK but shipp them is very weird to me ; sabédala relationship is so much more about confidence/loyality/friendship/sabé's problem with being the second one.
anyway, my point is that finally this issue of her recognizing herself was embedded in vader's new comic (issue #27)! I'm so happy and that made me like sabé a lot more as a character. the biggest flaw of padmé's books is the simple fact that EKJ doesn't work deeply in the arcs she addresses! it annoys me so much, and consequently makes me dislike a lot of characters. finally represented sabé's loyalty to padmé in a beautiful and undistorted way with some dependency hole on top - I understand this is all part of her plot, but EKJ never developed it for sure so I'll criticize. this comic made me like tsabin a lot more! she realized (finally) how to honor her dear friend's memory WITHOUT devaluing herself. the version where tsabin finds her independence and honors padmé without treating pads like her pedestal is my favorite. <3

Yup she needs luke Windsor back making pr moves on her own has been a disaster - It's interesting this. Fascinating, even.
It really depends what she wants to do. If she is serious about keeping acting alive as an option, you'd think that the PR angle is essential. You would have to think acting isn't seriously on the agenda though, and the longer it takes her to get back into it, the less likely it'll become. Be a huge risk for any well-known director to take Emma Watson on board for a major project.
But yeah, she's tried to play the game of detaching herself from most publicity stunts (understandable given she was so over exposed and probably scare off it as a kid), but then also using it when she has a project to promote. But not using it very well, it seems....
I think some of her 'issues' (with segments of the public) aren't even essentially a PR problem anyway. There was always going to be a blowback from the Potter thing. It was inevitable - the whole book and movie series were so over hyped, once the core audience grew up they were bound to find issues with it/turn against it to a degree. Then add in the toxicity and debate around Rowling, and it's a bloody minefield.
Her overlying problem, for mine, is still the whole child actor conundrum. For so many people, she's still basically Hermione and tied in their minds to Potter and the films. You can see that on IG when people post pics of her that are now 10 to 15 years ago, and others gush about how beautiful she is, like they're recent pics. You can see it in the attacks on her on Twitter by the Rowling Terf army where so many of them refer to her as an 'ungrateful brat' or similar phrases, basically treating her like a naughty child, not a 32 year old woman.
So many people seemed to have really equated her with Hermione, something that she, and her PR, fed for many years. Those people were always bound to be disappointed at some point. A real person was never going to live up to all that. Not helped by her always setting the bar so high with her various proclamations, and by her use of Hermione to fuel her (fairly half-hearted) activism.
I suspect she increasingly doesn't care all that much about the PR. Hopefully that's the case. If I was her I'd just hang out with mates, chill out, travel and indulge in the occasional project to pass the time and focus the mind. Sounds a pretty decent life.....
Even if she wasn't going to act anymore, a PR team would be necessary in order to maintain her image since she's still a public figure. They would come in handy in situations like this, but I guess she just wants to lay low and let the storm pass.
It's true that people still treat her like a child. It doesn't help that she looks young for her age and I bet some people forget that she's in her early 30's. But people seem to think that it's okay to shit on celebs online, because they don't really see them as human beings. They first put them on pedestals and when they see that they have flaws or have opinions that they don't agree with, they feel betrayed and they lash out.

Sometimes some people let their ships rule over them and affect their opinions on one character or group of people just based on that. If you like the inner circle then you dislike Lucien/Elucien or if you DO like Elucien then you dislike the inner circle (Feyre included!). Another one: if you like Gwynriel and Nesta and the Valkyries then you dislike the Inner Circle or if you like the Inner Circle especially Feyre then you dislike the Valkyries. You guys, Nesta and Feyre have made peace, calm down. If you like Rhys then you dislike Nesta and vice versa. Don’t even get me started on the whole Tamlin and Tamlain situation.
Meanwhile here I am: I love Feyre and Rhysand, they are the heart of this series, cry all you want but Sarah has made it that way. Let’s be honest ACOMAF, which is Feysand’s story, is what really propelled this series to become wildly popular. I also love Elucien (team doing it in a field of flowers or in the woods with fire in his blood all the way!) and I want Feyre and Lucien to get a proper revival of their friendship again. They give off total siblings vibe—the kind who will yell at the person who hurt you and then yell at you right after whilst saving your ass and then proceed to roll their eyes at you. Why does this sound like it’s happened already? They’ve been friends ever since she was a little itty bitty human! Probably her first friend ever, anywhere! I hope in the Elucien book (it will happen istg, we get some of Feyre and Lucien again) And I want the Archeron sisters to rebuild their sisterhood! I am not a Nesta Stan but I can appreciate her story and I like the Valkyries especially Gwyn! And I like the inner circle too! When Nesta and Rhys had that beautiful moment at the end of ACOSF I was so happy. Even with all their faults and flaws. I am neutral on Tamlin but I’ve moved on from hating him, just like Feyre has, she told him that she wishes he finds happiness too.
Sometimes I feel as if I am the only one who has this stance. Maybe I just like them all too much. I should be angrier. Grrrrrrr…….yep, that’s the extent of my anger and salt.
I actually resonate with a lot of what you just said! Yes, the characters do things we don't like and they make us mad at certain points but at the end of the day, they are all friends and family (I don't want Tamlin to be in that particular family but I hope he finds his own path where he's happy). And yes, maybe right now there's a lot of crazy emotions and frustrations being experienced between the characters but that's what happens when they're all trying to find their way in this new world. But at the end of the day, everyone that gets a POV is meant to be the hero of the story (especially Rhys and Feyre though they have this extra weight constantly on their shoulders because they are the ones in charge. As much as you love your friend, sometimes you don't love your boss, right?). You might not love this character or that character "the most" but I think the author wrote this series hoping that you'll still feel fond of everyone by the main ones by the end of it. I definitely didn't love Nesta for a lot of the series but I'm really happy to see the place she has now found herself in. Thinks of the ups and downs Aelin and Co. went through. There was a lot of dysfunction but when we finally said goodbye to the characters, there was a lot of harmony that existed between them all and I really do think that's what we're working toward in ACOTAR. Maybe once the dust settles people will finally be able to stop pitting this sister against that sister or Nesta against Rhys (and so on) and the discord comes from the unknown of how it will all play out. But I think you're on the right track with how you feel about it because if I were an author, I'd hope for the same feedback from a reader.
