lied again. it’s also a game preservation issue to me. last year, the wii and 3ds e-shops closed down. i believe there was an effort to archive all the games on there that went as successfully as it could, but that was only games on there available before it closed, not counting games removed beforehand for one reason or another. how many games did we just. lose? because game companies don’t give a shit about preservation, and even less for preservation of games that just aren’t impressive, aren’t meaningful in the way things like. the legend of zelda are.

who in their right mind would dedicate resources to making sure that Rio on the ds is made continuously available for archival purposes, right? but it matters. even the shit games matter. every terrible atari game from when people really didn’t know what the hell they were making, every nes title that probably has its own angry video game nerd rant dedicated to it, and every terrible wii tie-in game that no one asked for. leave it up to the companies who made those games, and they’d disappear. especially nowadays with the prevalence of digital copies over physical ones, it feels so precarious. at least there was some stability in know that there were probably going to be thousands of physical copies made of those past games. take down a digital-only game when nobody’s looking, does it make a sound?

idk. it upsets me, the idea that these things, even as seemingly worthless and bad as they are, could be lost. would be lost, if the people in charge had a say in it.

Kingdom hearts was inadvertently a terrible series for me to play bc I was actually pretty good at it......

it doesnt "fall off" per se, its more like. he loses his tie and the button up becomes open. i think that during the fist fight, bugbo either grabs joe by his shirt which causes the buttons to open, or punches him in a way that Nicks his shirt and makes it open and then the tie becomes undone when bugbo starts choking him.

honeslty i didnt think it through super well cuz i mostly just like the idea of joe looked all rugged and fucked up at the end of the fight and having his shirt open and tie missing was the best way i could convey that.

ok so ive had a few hours to digest shinsekai. thoughts and spoilers ahead!

so ok. shinsekai yori is the kind of show, similar to season 1 of shield hero, where taking a watsonian perspective makes it look really, really good! if we could take the text just as it stands, its great. it's a story about, at its core, the parts of humanity nobody likes to look at. fear, oppression, playing god, the powerful going to any lengths to keep power for themselves, cruelty, desperation. taken at face value, it's a fascinating exploration of how, exactly, humanity might deal with psychic powers manifesting in a small portion of the population.

but we're not here to take a watsonian perspective. we must once again look through the lens of the doylist perspective, and unlike shield hero's obviously shitty foundation, this one's... confusing. any time someone writes about political structures, oppression and revolution, and societies very different from our own, they're going to inevitably let some of their personal beliefs colour the narrative. and i couldnt figure out, really, what the author believes in this one. but i think a good way to put it is that the author set out to create a deeply unethical world, extrapolated from problems in modern humanity, and said "we need to change these problems". but they trip over their own feet in this because theyre. not actually capable of imagining a better future for the world theyve created.

the first big problem to address is the fact that children have no human rights and are killed if they show any signs of nonconformity or potentially dangerous outbursts or if they suck at being psychic or if they arent psychic at all. this is a defense against the emergence of Fiends and Karma Demons, but Fiends are the primary issue. to prevent psychics from slaughtering each other, humanity was genetically modified to be instinctively unwilling to attack other humans, and to experience death feedback, a biological response to killing another human where the body's psychic energy shuts down vital organs and kills itself. Fiends are humans who lack these and are thus able to kill indiscriminately. humans can't fight back because theyre biologically programmed not to kill humans, so Fiends are effectively unstoppable once they snap. and so we must kill them as children before they become fiends (by breeding big cats for murder), forbid discussion of "missing" students, and modify the memory of any students who knew them. this, as all the characters except the ruling class agree, is horrible! it's cruel and inhumane and no civilised society should ever implement such a policy.

but like. what is there to be done instead? the show never offers an alternative. it doubles down and tells us the only reason the last Fiend was stopped was because of a fluke. another emergence of a Fiend would destroy humanity. and when another Fiend DOES emerge, rather than finding a way to deal with it, it's simply. not actually a Fiend. it can be dealt with, but it doesnt solve the problem at all. In fact, the one method they find to actually kill a fiend without dying themselves is destroyed and unrecoverable.

main character Saki is told she's to take over as head of the Ethics Committee, which one would think could result in meaningful change being made. but, from what i gathered in the last episode, she's simply a member of the committee, not the head. and no changes to the practice of murdering children are ever suggested or explored. maybe she DOES have thoughts on the matter, but the author does not tell us them, and i believe this is because they also do not know what to do.

the second huge issue is the oppression of the slave race, the bakenezumi. where do i even fuckin start. bakenezumi are sentient creatures that appear to have evolved from naked mole rats and worship humans as gods due to their psychic powers. their societies are similar to ants in that only the queen can give birth, they live in tunnels underground, and they steal workers and larvae from their defeated enemies after winning inter-colony wars. they are heavily regulated by humans. their colony name is tattooed on their forehead at birth and they have to submit paperwork before being allowed to go to war with each other or have battles. if they commit crimes against humans, they could face the eradication of their entire colony. humans claim this is only in "extreme cases", but our protagonist's comphet boyfriend says that questioning the deity of humans is punishable by death, so how "extreme" could it really be?

crucially, the bakenezumi are sentient. they may speak a language of primarily grunts and squeaks, but they are perfectly capable of learning the human tongue and speaking it fluidly. they can read, they can organise into military units, they can fill out paperwork, they can enter into contracts, they are for all intents and purposes humans that live in the ground and come out of a big meaty queen looking like bugs. their political structure is primitive, sure, but feudal monarchy was common during a time when we would consider humans to still have been fully sentient, so thats not really a proper argument against the bakenezumi.

any sentient race living subservient to another race is eventually going to revolt. when your entire nation could get wiped out if you accidentally said 'yknow ion think those guys are gods' within earshot of a human, what reason do you have NOT to revolt? squealer (may he rest in power), the primary antagonist of the second half of the show, recognized this, but so did kiromaru, the leader of an alliance of bakenezumi colonies that was fiercely loyal to humans. BOTH of them recognized the futility of their existence and attempted to do something about it. but the humans are completely incapable of understanding this point of view. the standard humans, yeah, but also the main characters who are generally wiser about the societal problems with human society. even saki, whose job it is to work with bakenezumi, cant figure out why theyd rebel. because humans see bakenezumi as inferior creatures. no more than beasts of burden.

but what does the show do with this? it's fuckin, hard to say, really. squealer is portrayed as a cunning, ruthless leader who takes his colony into a new age of.... democracy and union membership? he commits horrible atrocities against his own people and against humanity in an effort to eradicate humans and become the new dominant species, but like. the way his crimes are tied to his support of democratic governance, unions, individual rights, and forward thinking, contrasted by the Noble Savage kiromaru's clinging to the Old Ways of tyrannical monarchy and dying for the sake of the colony, its hard not to come to the conclusion that the position we're expected to take is 'modernity is bad and the people selling it are lying to you'. squealer's society is just as based on dying for the sake of the colony as kiromaru's, and this 'contradiction' is supposed to make him seem evil, despite the fact that like. of course the bakenezumi are going to die for the cause of freedom. humans in real life die because an army recruiter whispered the word in their ear.

and when squealer does revolt, instantly humans decide that ALL bakenezumi need to be eradicated, despite the fact that many colonies were allied AGAINST squealer. even kiromaru's years of famously loyal service arent enough to change the humans' minds. they strip him naked like a dog and chain him in prison while continuing to demand he grovel for them. saki saves his life and he works with them to try to take out the Fiend in squealer's service, but lets examine how the narrative treats kiromaru here. clearly it wants to say his treatment was unwarranted, he's just as sentient and worthy of respect as anyone else, but his ultimate fate is to be killed in a plan that HINGED on his death. that was the best we could get for him. decades of loyalty despite recognizing the futility of the bakenezumi's existence, and his reward is to be abandoned by the people he served and killed to protect his oppressors.

but surely in the aftermath of the war against humanity, saki will do something to fix the situation right? well, not in any visible way. saki works to prevent kiromaru's allied colonies' queens from being killed (no word on if the surviving members survive or not, she only promised to save the queens), but thats just maintaining the status quo. instead of driving bakenezumi to extinction, certain loyal factions are graciously permitted to remain in servitude. their continued oppression is their reward. and it's not through anything they couldve done. no act of the oppressed could possibly save them, if kiromaru's reputation couldnt save him. it was only through the grace and mercy of Human Saki that divine punishment could be avoided.

and humans dont even THINK about changing their views on this. theyre just as sure of their own superiority as they were before. squealer is given a farce of a trial. his impassioned cry of "We are humans!" is met with cruel laughter and he is sentenced to Eternal Torture, while his followers are presumably wiped out. in memory of the event, a museum is built where visitors can come and see the crude weaponry of the bakenezumi, the funny helmet he used to wear, and his quivering, tortured flesh piled in a flask. his torment is reduced to a mere curiosity. saki kills him in a fit of mercy, but how many months did he remain in that state while they built a hall around him?

and perhaps the most fascinating part of this is that like. our heros dont change their sense of superiority, either. saki's comphet boyfriend discovers that the bakenezumi were created by adding mole rat DNA to the DNA of Actual Real Humans without psychic powers until they looked inhuman enough to be killed without triggering the death feedback. saki experiences a momentary horror as she realises she's been massacring Real Humans, but she's quickly comforted by comphet boyfriend, who reassures her that she doesnt Actually see them as the same race, does she? of course not. they may have been human once, but they are not now! they are instead Subservient.

despite saki hoping that in the future the world Does Better, there's no thought given to what that might look like. she's dreaming of a better world in the most empty way possible. its the same world, but there's a sticker on it that says 'new and improved!'. and im not sure how im supposed to feel about it.

SONIC PRIME RAMBLES!!!!

SPOILERS FOR SEASON TWO AHEAD!!!

firstly of course id like to mention these two. i love how when sonic is playing around and talking to himself, shadow just nods along. he didnt tell sonic to shut the fuck up, he just waited until he got his zoomies out. he even slightly participated! i just love how when shadow is cooled down a bit he’s actually pretty used to sonic and doesnt mind his silliness, it only makes him genuinely upset when it’s not the right time or place. and sure this also isnt the right time or place, but seeing as hes been blessed with literal gay magic i think shadow mightve given him a pass. that or shadow is never actually as pissed as he tries to be. which i also believe, because he plays around during fights. i think hes having fun too. hes just trying to ignore it in favor of the overall mission, which is completely fair and is kinda needed. without shadow sonic would have no fucking clue what to do hed just be running around spitting off cheesy one liners like an idiot, but without sonic shadow would be all alone with nobody but space rocks and his pissy attitude. sonic does provide shadow with fun, and everyone needs a little fun and positivity. sonic makes him happy and keeps him entertained but he’d never admit that. they balance each other out in such a nice way. they need each other in more ways than one in my opinion.

this leads me into my favorite thing about this show: sonic is not simply the hero. he’s not just saving the day and that’s that like he thinks. it’s much more complicated. lots of people he’s met seem to have clashing opinions or views of the world, and that’s not a bad thing! most of rouges variants want to just hand over the shard and get it over with, which wouldnt help in the long run but is A REASONABLE THING TO THINK!!! shadow was never malicious he was just pissed off and he’s RIGHT! hell, i dont even think nine is wrong either!!! hes never even seen the reality that sonic is wishing for! all of these people simply want to be happy but theyre from completely different worlds in a very VERY dangerous situation, of course theres going to be conflict amongst people who ARENT the villains! because the world doesn’t revolve around sonic and in situations like these its hard to find a middle ground between COUNTLESS AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE FROM ALL AROUND THE MULTIVERSE!! i think it perfectly demonstrates how all of these people arent bad people, they simply dont view things the way sonic does and thats ok. theyre all just scared and confused and in a life or death situation. well, except for dread. that motherfuckers just crazy.

i do think nine should. maybe chill 😭😭. but i think sonic shouldve at least talked with the kid a bit more about the overall goal cuz damn. i like the parallel between shadow saying “theyre not your real friends.” and nine saying hes real. because shadow was right in a sense. nine is NOT tails. he’s REAL, sure, but hes not the real TAILS. he isnt the real tails and hes not sonics friend just because sonic knows a version of him. that doesnt mean they cant BE friends but sonic being quick to assume that nine will end up like tails was just wrong on his part. sonic was quick to assume so many things about nine because of his relation to tails, and he shouldn’t have done that. he should’ve listened to shadow. it’s all “ooo shadows such a fuckin debby downer party pooping asshole” until the universe still isnt put together and THEN people consider that yeah maybe he was a little right. harsh, but right. literally if shadow was able to go into those portals i promise you this shit wouldve been over before we even got a season two. like genuinely i feel like they keep shadow in the void simply because they need to prolong the season. and i love the content dont get me wrong but please just let him go with sonic that motherfucker really does need a babysitter. i think we need BOTH of them in the actual shatterspaces. like i said, they balance each other out. if shadow was to go on his own i honestly think he wouldnt do too good either. hed just ignore everyone else and try to get things done quickly without needing help and sure he might get a little far but eventually hed need the help and he wouldnt have it. so i think sonic and shadow together should finally be allowed to do this shit fully together so that shadow can do what he has to do and sonic can go around making friends with multiverse people and saving them from robots on the side. its a win-win people!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

i do like the fact that shadows speed is artificial so it isnt the same as sonics, or at least thats what i like to think. i know hes stuck in the void because of the chaos control he did (i think) and sonics speed might not be the only factor but i do think its interesting how they cant do the same things

but truly i think the only reason the writers are keeping them seperate is because they know damn well if they teamed up full time theyd start kissing eventually

2. ijin from teenage mercenary/mercenary enrollment !!!! this one is my fav webtoon of all time 💓💓 i adore ijin because like...even after all he's been through and how grim and immovable his life has made him, he's still so so gentle with his grandfather and little sister. he loves his family so so much and it makes me ILL. speaking of his family i adore just how many families he HAS like he has the numbers, major kang and all them (his relationship w them has me absolutely dead on the floor the amount of rants ive gone on abt them is frankly worrying), dusik cha n his right hand man, and ofc his grandpa and dayeon!! he's so caring that he creates such strong bonds with so many people and they become irreplaceable in his heart and he would do absolutely anything to protect them. he puts the people he sees as family over EVERYTHING in his life and once a person has become part of his fam he becomes super protective of them <3 an example of that is once he knew that jiyeh was engaged to major kang, who was the first person to really help him understand what family means, he immediately added her to the ppl to be protected and went super far to protect her when she got kidnapped because he knows she's special to major kang!! someone in the comments said "his in-law!!" and that had me sobbing on the floor bc he got so excited and felt like he had to be cool in front of her AUGHH. he's such a sweetheart while also being an incredible and badass fighter and that combo is my fav kind of character 🫶🫶

okay. its actually over. it feels weird to say but i have indeed completed homestuck yet again. this time was maybe my favorite reading of it other than probably the first time. maybe it was cause of the blogging it? i did genuinely love blogging my thoughts about it. even if no one is paying too much attention, its cool to get it out there :D

overall thoughts? the first part is a little slow to get going, but once it does get going, it's so fun and just a blast to read. things are incredible up until right after cascade where it slows down a lot. which i get. introducing a ton of new characters and essentially a new main villain into the plot can be a lot. i would say that the first half of act 6 is like... a definite decrease in quality? but it starts picking up again when they actually arrive in the new session. and me personally, ive always loved the ending. i know some people were like oh they just win and their plan goes smoothly. like, yeah i get that, but also things did NOT go smoothly when game over happened, and that was definitely the everything goes wrong moment. everything after that is cool and fun and very entertaining to read. i just love this story guys i love it so much there is a reason why it is my favorite piece of fiction and why i constantly come back to it . it is just so good i love the characters i love the concepts the plot is sprawling and self referential and just plain cool . of course it has flaws, namely its villains are a little weak. sometimes i love villains who are just plain evil but sometimes in a story like this i may have preferred a villain who has a little more motive than just being evil and wanting to destroy and kill things... but its alright. the heroes were the main focus anyway, so its not like it ruins the story or anything. i think homestuck goes from an ironic shit post story that makes you feel like an ass for reading it to a heartfelt tale of empathy and self improvement and self actualization. its characters go from asshole kids to pretty good adults. and you can see the writing grow up too. its honestly great and if you know me you probably already know lots of bits and pieces about it and/or i made you read it. but if you dont you should give it a shot. it has NOT aged well i will say but if you can manage to ignore the usage of slurs and probably other bad things i can honestly say it ends as a story about growth and acceptance of the self and others. that is all.......

most of the stories arent tied down to canon theyre more whatever worldbuilding i have and stories pop up from them- one of the first ones was the shina-tomi failed peacetalks bc i wanted to draw sanemi & giyuu fighting (i just realized i placed the branches perfectly bc thats closer to canon than the others lol)

if the peacetalks worked(wouldve been later/after sanemi took over) then it kinda snowballed into a few nearby/allied clans forming a village, then from that theres the Tomi-Daki diplomat/trade envoy w the fox trio(giyu makomo & sabito)

the rescues are like. little to no formal interactions between any of the three clans(shina-kumeno is always allied), in the first one its winter and giyu's on his way home when he catches the trail of bloodline hunters and saves Genya & Masachika.

in the other one giyu's pinned by a rogue shinobi and sanemi & sabito both find him at the same time and they make a lil truce bc giyu has severe chakra exhastion and cant make it home

undercover mission has one thats purely sanegiyu; sanemi is disguised as Kazura & giyu as Gikuro and actually i looked back at my notes and this ones like. in the past before the village branch. so it connects to that one but it can also be a standalone. the other undercover mission is sabisanegiyu where sabito & giyuu went undercover as a master/servant thing and sanemi was disgusted by it and didnt know that it wasnt Real so he tried to 'save' giyuu and got invited to the polycule<3

the lil unnamed branches inbetween is that one where giyu got chased out the clan by tsutako for killing their mom, there was a spy who had taken her place and giyu noticed and killed the spy but tsutako only saw him killing their mom and she lost her shit in dispair & heartbreak. theres a branch for Giyu staying alone, Sabito ditching the urokodakis for his packmate while makomo stays behind to fix things with tsutako, and both Sabito & Makomo ditching the urokodakis for their packmate

the arranged marriages are sanegiyu with the first branch being after sanemi takes over and giyu asking for it ot of goodwill & he likes him(his pack gets to stay w him). other two Kyogo requested(demanded) it for trade routes, he doesnt allow the urokodakis to go with bc theyre Not Tomiokas and these routes more heavily portray the different biology of the southerners/mountain-pass(a/b/o)

ones angsty bc sanemi is like. CRUSHED that he cant find love on his own. his father takes literally everything away from him. while sanemi is kind & respects giyu he doesnt really care for him. and for giyu to go from a very close-knit family-oriented culture to the stone cold-cutthroat/conservative/severely traumatized/individualist culture of the shinazigawas with literally No One there for him he gets pretty fucked up w the emotional neglect

like I didn't spend my entire childhood having meltdowns over the seams in socks because they rubbed my toes in my tennis shoes.

Like I didn't have to have stations to keep me busy during play.

Like I wouldn't have meltdowns when my friends wanted a toy I wanted and planned on playing with but didn't know how to say I wanted it.

When I didn't learn to walk until I was 2 1/2 years old. Like I didn't get retaught how to walk "right" (heel to toe instead of flat footed) by my abusive grandmother.

Like I still can't walk without looking down at my feet to make sure I don't trip.

Like I don't stay Inside because my room is a specific temperature, humidity, brightness and noise level that restaurants, stores, libraries, parks, and even my own front yard arent.

Like I don't have clothes from 5 years ago I still wear because theyre washed soft but they're falling apart because they're fuckin 5 years old like duh they are of course, but I'm having a breakdown over it because I don't have any other clothes and I have to leave the house to test fabrics and sizes and sensory stuff and I just fucking can't.

Like I don't go to eat dinner and turn back around because the texture is just Wrong.

Like i don't forget to shower for a month.

Like I don't have obvious signs of debilitating autism that make my life hell.
